Drugs, Debt, and Masculinity
Plus: The editors wade into the conversation surrounding the modern dilemmas men face.
In this week's The Reason Roundtable, editors Katherine Mangu-Ward, Matt Welch, Peter Suderman, and Nick Gillespie ruminate on President Joe Biden's sudden announcement regarding federal marijuana convictions and examine the current kooky economy.
1:41: Biden's weed announcement
16:56: The weird economy watch
33:22: Weekly Listener Question:
What's the take on the classic car warranty "renewal" junk mail or life insurance upsells, often employing phrases like FINAL NOTICE? Addressed mail that attempts to fool the recipient into taking out a new service by using personal information (e.g., full legal name, vehicle details) to imply an existing commercial relationship. Bonus: These senders depend on using government data like DMV records and are typically delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. Free market/free speech/consumer (?) beware, or state-enabled spear phishing that defrauds the elderly?
44:20: A masculinity crisis?
57:50: This week's cultural recommendations

- We all want to make sure our family is protected in a medical emergency. What many of us don't realize is that health insurance won't always cover the full amount of an emergency medical flight. Even with comprehensive coverage, you could get hit with high deductibles and co-pays. That's why an AirMedCare Network (AMCN) membership is so important. As a member, if an emergency arises, you won't see a bill for air medical transport when flown by an AMCN provider. Best of all, a membership covers your entire household for as little as $85 a year. AMCN providers are called upon to transport more than 100,000 patients a year. This is coverage no family should be without. Now, as a listener of our show, you'll get up to a $50 Visa or Amazon gift card with a new membership. Simply visit AirMedCareNetwork.com/reason and use offer code REASON.

I’ve seen this stuff. What the fuck is going on with the stomachs of our youth? Why is everyone suddenly having tummy aches from staring too hard at a can of beans or whatever?
youth “traditional coffee” includes blended ice, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream
Look, I don’t drink them every day. But I got out and get Dutch Bros sometimes, same as any other man.

My uncle, a “greatest generation” bomber pilot out of England, used to say they’d drink lots of coffee on the flight in order to stay awake, that it (and flak) gave the men extreme jitters and then they smoked like fiends once they landed to counteract the jitters. Maybe the kids today need to start smoking again if Starbucks, etc. makes them too jittery.
or just go to sleep at a reasonable hour and lay off the coffee
I am making 80 US dollars per hr. to complete some internet services from home. I did not ever think it would even be achievable , however my confidant mate got $13k only in four weeks, easily doing this best assignment and also she convinced me to avail.

Personally I prefer my caffeine cold and carbonated. That every day dose tastes just like regular coffee is not a plus.
I come to Reason for the weekly listener question.
Many weeks I’m left scratching my head, wondering who the fuck is asking these questions? This weeks rambling and confusing question, that’s vaguely paranoid about government action, clearly has a libertarian behind it though.
This sounds like a diss, but I mean it more friendly chiding. I love, and still love this aspect of libertarians.
I love it too, like the back room sprog you don’t let out when company’s over.
To be frank, those car warranty things are annoying, but the question is kinda wonky.
It is EXTREMELY wonky. The reference to public records being used to these ends possibly indicating government/scammer collusion is great as well. I love it.
There oughta be a law!
44:20: A masculinity crisis?
Real no-shit science on the masculinity crisis.
I believe Reason did an article on this subject last year where they moved from step one to step two:
Ok… it’s happening but it’s not as bad as you say.
44:20: Welch, Suderman, and Gillespie finally got permission from ENB and KMW to talk about something other than abortion and sex worker’s rights.
Welch being asked if he can deviate from allowed topics.
The lede is on a par with “Eats shoots and leaves”
Drugs….Debt….Masculinity.
Guess which one is toxic?
BZzzzzzzz! They’re supposed to pose the question in the form of an answer.
They speak about masculinity the way an NPR reporter talks about the working class.
The same disconnect exists, I suspect, not seeing blue collar or trades in any of their pasts. The weird bit is that KMW thinks that the economy needs to be restructured so men w/ no post-secondary education won’t be ‘sad about their jobs.’ This is strikingly ignorant.
Are you Ms gendering them?

Nice.
My biggest dilemma is should I keep reading communist Reason?
Though it is fun to mock their woke lunacy.
Is gillespie’s role to make stupid comments when other folks are talking? Much like his apparent role during interviews is to show his disdain for views he doesn’t share? He makes good points when speaking, but doesn’t seem like an asset for a positive team environment.
George Gilder shows that almost 95% of all violent, illegal, perverted acts are committed by unmarried 18-34 males. Add to that the tens of millions of Chinese and Indian men who can’t find wives because of Gendercide and you have the disaster I OFTEN see in security and defense journals.
Abortion is wrong and this might be the apocalyptic payback, violent Chinese young men who take war to be their best outlet and a government that can afford to lose every one of them
