Hunter Biden, Second Amendment Warrior?
Plus: Flaws in studies linking teen social media use to depression, debt ceiling deal passes Senate, and more...

President Joe Biden has long been an advocate for strict restrictions on guns, so his son makes something of an unlikely advocate for expanded gun rights. But Hunter Biden may soon find himself on the opposite side of his father's gun control crusade in at least one aspect. The younger Biden is reportedly considering a challenge to a federal law that bans illegal drug users from owning guns.
The issue hits close to home for Hunter: The Department of Justice is investigating a gun purchase he made in 2018. This is a time period during which he has admitted to regularly using crack cocaine. That could put him afoul of the law against drug users having guns.
Hunter Biden's "lawyers have already told Justice Department officials that, if their client is charged with the gun crime, they will challenge the law under the Second Amendment, according to a person familiar with the private discussions granted anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly," reported Politico. "That could turn a case that is already fraught with political consequences into a high-profile showdown over the right to bear arms."
Here's hoping?
The provision in question—part of the Gun Control Act of 1968—is, frankly, insane, preventing any person "who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance" from buying a gun. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has interpreted this provision to mean that anyone who has used any illegal drug in the past 12 months cannot legally purchase a gun.
And the time may be just right for challenging it. This Supreme Court has proved willing to strike down overreaching gun laws.
The investigation into Hunter Biden's 2018 gun purchase comes as part of a broader investigation, noted Politico:
David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, is leading the probe. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in May that Weiss is "capable of making any decisions that he feels are appropriate," and that he won't face political pressure. Weiss is widely reported to be examining potential tax crimes related to undeclared income, as well as Hunter Biden's purchase of a handgun in October 2018.
When he bought the gun, Biden filled out a federal form on which he allegedly avowed that he was not "an unlawful user of, or addicted to" any "controlled substance," POLITICO reported in 2021. But according to Biden's 2021 memoir, he frequently used crack cocaine at the time.
"I was smoking crack every 15 minutes," he wrote.

Not every study on teen depression and social media is bad—just most of them. Aaron Brown, who teaches statistics at New York University and at the University of California at San Diego, responds to psychologist Jonathan Haidt's critiques of Brown's skepticism around studies linking social media to teen depression:
[Haidt] characterized my critique of his work as consisting mainly "of criticisms of specific studies," conceding that many of those concerns are "justified," but asking "what level of skepticism is right when addressing the overall question: is social media harming girls?" He continued, "If multiple studies find that girls who become heavy users of social media have merely twice the risk of depression, anxiety, self-harm, or suicide, [Brown] doesn't want to hear about it because it COULD conceivably be random noise."
I didn't express "concerns" about specific studies; I argued that the majority of the 301 papers cited in his document are garbage. I went through each category of studies on Haidt's list, chose the first one that studied social media and depression to get a random sampling, and then showed that they were so embarrassingly bad as to be completely useless. They were guilty of coding errors, fatal defects hidden in mid-paper jargon, inappropriate statistics, longitudinal studies that weren't longitudinal, experiments in name only, and red flags for hypothesis shopping and p-hacking (that is, misusing data analysis to yield results that can be presented as statistically significant).
He should remove them from his research compendium and excise them from his upcoming book. Including them would be analogous to the financial industry's decision to bundle toxic mortgage assets in the lead-up to the 2008 financial crisis. "A bad study is like a bad mortgage loan," I wrote in my original piece. "Packaging them up on the assumption that somehow their defects will cancel each other out is based on flawed logic, and it's a recipe for drawing fantastically wrong conclusions."
Haidt was correct, however, when he noted that I won't take a field of study seriously that can't produce a 3–1 odds ratio or greater, e.g. a subpopulation with at least three times the risk of depression than similar people who use less social media. That's because there are so many studies that draw conclusions based on weak findings. It's not that studies with weaker findings "COULD conceivably be random noise," as Haidt wrote; we must assume they're random noise until a researcher can meet a high enough bar to demonstrate actual causation. If you lower the bar so that studies can be rigged to confirm our suspicions instead of actually testing them, statistics is worse than useless, because it gives a false veneer of rigor, or what the economist Friedrich Hayek called "scientism."

The Senate has passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act, the deal struck by President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R–Calif.) to suspend the nation's debt limit through 2025. "The Senate adopted the bill…by a bipartisan vote of 63 to 36," reported CBS News:
Both sides acknowledged that the deal negotiated by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden was far from perfect but necessary to avoid a disastrous default.
"I look forward to signing this bill into law as soon as possible and addressing the American people directly tomorrow," Mr. Biden said in a statement late Thursday night.
Before the final passage, the Senate voted on 11 amendments to the bill, all of which failed.
Thirty-one Republicans voted against the bill, as did Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) and Democratic Sens. John Fetterman (Penn.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Ed Markey (Mass.), and Jeff Merkley (Ore.).

Hunter Biden, Second Amendment Warrior?
If it weren't for all the nepobaby graft he would be a fine libertarian posterboy.
Sullum is already bookmarking this article for his "Libertarian case for Joe Biden" October 2024 cover story.
Let’s see what the infamous, oft-lied-about 2020 article actually says:

“JACOB SULLUM
Senior Editor
Who do you plan to vote for this year? Texas has stringent requirements for absentee ballots, notwithstanding COVID-19, so I may not vote at all. But assuming I do, the choice is obvious: Jo Jorgensen. Given the odds, voting is best viewed as an expressive activity rather than an attempt to influence the outcome, and I have no interest in expressing whatever horrifying message would be implied by a vote for Trump or Biden (although I am morbidly curious to see what a second term for Trump would mean).”
Weird isolation of the article when they clearly say they will vote for Biden and many would if it mattered.

I'm no fan of the Biden family and it seems pretty clear to me that Hunter was making money hand over fist by selling access to his dad. But I'll admit I want him to win on the gun charge through this constitutional argument. Firstly it would restore some measure of 2A rights. Secondly it would be really funny in light of Joe Bidens constant gun control pushing and would paint him into a corner as a hypocrite. All of his talk about needing more robust background check laws would get laughed off.
It is a desperate political judo move for Hunter Biden to position himself as a defender of Second Amendment rights, forcing Republicans into awkwardly defending constraints on gun ownership. Doubt it will work, though, because all but the most absolutist gun rights defenders will have no problem being seen as keeping guns out of the hands of druggees.
His violation is lying on a federal form sea lion.
He is doing no such thing. This is a threat to the Democrat-led DOJ. He is playing chicken with them. "Bring this charge against me, and it will harm your gun control laws". This has nothing to do with forcing republicans to do anything. It has to do with a guy of means using a threat of "going all the way to the supreme court" to get out of charges that a person of lesser means would not be able to make.

I haven't read through all the comments yet, but color me surprised that ENB's comprehension of the issue is 'drug users cannot own firearms' versus the the reality, lying on application to purchase firearm is a crime. That she doesn't comprehend the issue should be weird, because I know I've seen L/libertarian and legal discussions on cannabis use and 2A. Then, that would imply reading from sources outside of twtter & the hipster urban bubble. Or, reading from libertarian sites, for that matter.
The issue _is_ ‘drug users cannot own firearms’. Otherwise, that question would not be on the form and Hunter would not have lied.
But Hunter Biden is a terrible client for challenging the ban on gun possession by even occasional and never-violent users of some drugs in court. Most of us would expect someone who was "smoking crack every 15 minutes" to have terrible judgment about everything, including the use of a deadly weapon. The test case here should be an occasional user of small quantities of marijuana, who is unimpaired 99% of the time - and even when smoking pot, is less dangerous than a drunken FBI agent:

Not every study on teen depression and social media is bad—just most of them.
I refuse to discriminate in my various moral panics.
Not every study is bad, just the ones that reach conclusions we don't like. - The Science.
The Senate has passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act...
IT'S GOT FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY RIGHT IN THE NAME, HOW COULD THEY NOT???
Which was the more inaccurate name: Fiscal Responsibility Act or Inflation Reduction Act?
Obama's 1st budget - A New Era of Responsibility
Well, the Affordable Care Act raised my monthly health insurance premiums from 'my company covers everything' to $55/paycheck employee contribution. At the same time it raised both my deductibles and annual out-of-pocket expense limits.
So, that one should at least get my vote for an honorable mention.
I'm just happy Reason did their job pushing the catastrophic default narrative a dozen or so times. That way establishment favoring libertarian have a defense of it.
Thirty-one Republicans voted against the bill, as did Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) and Democratic Sens. John Fetterman (Penn.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Ed Markey (Mass.), and Jeff Merkley (Ore.).
"Fetterman later haltingly explained how he was proud of his vote against the Ice Cream Monster."
On a related note, I hear a lot of democrats in California are pushing to draft Corky from the 80’s TV show ‘Our House’ to run for Diane Feinstein’s senate seat in 2024.
Stockman explains it allhttps://www.zerohedge.com/political/stockman-slams-speaker-mccarthys-rotten-deal We are referring, of course, to the impending moment when the US Treasury would have been forced to forgo scheduled vendor or beneficiary distributions in order to preserve incoming cash for interest payments and other priorities. That act of spending deferrals and prioritization would have obliterated the debt “default” canard once and for all, paving the way for a nascent fiscal opposition to regain control of the nation’s wretched public finances.
And there should be no doubt that we were damn close to that crystalizing moment. After all, Grandma Yellen herself forewarned just last week on Meet The Press that absent a debt ceiling increase, the Treasury Department would have to prioritize payments and leave some bills unpaid: “And my assumption is that if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, there will be hard choices to make about what bills go unpaid,” Yellen said on NBC’s “Meet the Press…….“We have to pay interest and principle on outstanding debt. We also have obligations to seniors who count on Social Security, our military that expects pay, contractors who’ve provided services to the federal government, and some bills have to go unpaid….” And, of course, that prioritization and deferral could have been easily done. Federal receipts are now running about $450 billion per month, meaning that after paying $61 billion of interest, $128 billion for Social Security, $26 billion for Veterans and $47 billion for military pay and O&M there would still be $188 billion left to cover at least 50% of everything else. That is to say, no sweat with respect to servicing the public debt, and a lot of sweat among the constituencies that would have had payments delayed or reduced.
Jeff was literally arguing every allocated dollar on a budget not yet spent was already credit, therefore the debt limit was a default because it caps government spending of allocations.
He doesn't realize that not every dollar allocated has to be spent by the executive. Complete ignorance on governance from Jeff.
Jeffy is an idiot and a liar. He’s wrong about so many things, and he distorts the rest. At least I can have a little respect for someone like Tony, who admits to being a leftist.
Agreed.
He doesn’t realize that not every dollar allocated has to be spent by the executive.
To be fair, he shares that trait with the vast majority of managers in every bureaucracy everywhere.
In my industry even cost plus contracts reduce profit per dollar when we overspend. Then again when we reach min fee there is no reason to control costs.
He doesn’t realize that not every dollar allocated has to be spent by the executive.
To an extent. When Dick Cheney was Secretary of Defense, he got smacked down by the Supreme Court for strangling funding for the V-22 program. The basic argument was, "Congress sets the budget, your responsibility is to execute it."
What chemtard deliberately omits, like every other media person who made the false claims about default, is that hitting the debt ceiling doesn't cause it, just not paying the debt service. Hitting the debt ceiling just means the government can't spend more than it takes in, and a government can hardly be expected to spend budgeted money it doesn't actually have. Shit, I can budget to live like a millionaire, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to fuck myself over if I don't have the actual revenue or credit to do so.
Yes. That is due to the Impoundment Act. The executive can't refuse to do their duty from a passed law. But it doesn't require spending every penny allocated, just to do the job required by the bill. Nobody has ever argued congress correctly sets appropriations.
That's how you can tell that's what it doesn't.
In this day and age, Congress critters probably had to google “fiscal responsibility” to find out what it means.
And then laughed as they put it in the name of the bill.
I am now told government failures are the voter’s fault.
Don't forget the non-voters.

That education worked very well on British shrike if you read his comments in the other thread.
Now, I'm not usually one to deride a dialect as low brow, but we're talking about obfuscating by state administrators as part of an urban, education failing here: do you think when she says "times tables" she means "multiplication tables" or "table full of times" like a train or a bus schedule?
Cletus the slack-jawed yokel feeding his kith and kin on possum stew and keepin' 'em ejucated the best he knows how is one thing; Cletus the slack-jawed brave illiterate female immigrant in charge of the Union keeping the public schools closed is something different.
brave illiterate female immigrant
LOL!
Oh, sweet Jesus! "No such thing as a loss of learning" indeed.
Sadly, there is a fairly large population who thinks 'times it by' = 'multiply it by' when speaking about mathematics. They are generally innumerate and illiterate, which doesn't make them bad folks, or stupid, but poorly educated. There is a common denominator (rimshot): shitty educators, shitty education system.
It gets worse...
There is no rational way to counter a Marxist once they have a position of power. If you employ their own tactics, their apologists scream "BOTH SIDES".

No but as I wrote the comment that you responded in the other thread on this very point, it's bleeding obvious. So fuck off.
So toxic.
The 8-year-old girl who died in Border Patrol custody had a 104.9 fever on 5/16, the day before she died...
Why should immigrants be treated better by federal law enforcement bureaucrats than anyone else, I guess.
OPR’s review to date has determined that none of the CBP contracted medical personnel or U.S. Border Patrol personnel at Harlingen Station who interacted with the girl, or her mother, acknowledged being aware she suffered from sickle cell anemia or had a history of congenital heart disease. Contracted medical personnel did not consult with on-call physicians (including an on-call pediatrician) about the girl’s condition, symptoms, or treatment. The contracted medical personnel failed to document numerous medical encounters, emergency antipyretic interventions, and administrations of medicine.
So we blame this on Trump, right?
Nope. We blame it on the people who work there, and the people who manage them. Who would you blame it on?
The voters?
You showed concern for an illegal immigrant’s well-being, therefore you must be a damned liberal.
Cite anyone saying that?
No, it’s all the other stuff that makes him a leftist.
Anyone with a terminally ill relative or associate should bring them over to SRG’s house to die so that it can all be blamed on the limey fucking cracker.
You cool with that, not shrike?
Millennials are moving to the right.
Well I guess I have to dive for the left now.

Anti-Magyarism in the EU.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/06/02/the-eu-plot-to-humiliate-hungary/
Every six months, a different EU member state assumes the presidency of the European Council. This rotating presidency allows the holder a certain degree of power to influence the EU’s policy priorities. In the second half of 2024, the presidency is due to fall to Hungary. Except now, a coup is underway to prevent this, by any means necessary.
The plot to deprive Hungary of its rightful turn to take the presidency is not just about Hungary itself. It is more than just an attempt to humiliate a small Central European nation. It is about the broader culture war that is engulfing Europe.
Eurocrats are rightly worried about the outcome of next year’s elections to the European Parliament. The mainstream, pro-EU parties – especially Greens, Socialists and Liberals – fear that their opponents could make serious headway. The Hungarian presidency is due to start just after these elections. Around the same time, key EU jobs will be handed out for the next European Commission. According to one report, ‘European parliamentarians are wary that Hungary could use the six-month mandate to promote policies that go against EU values at a sensitive moment’.
This is what is really driving the hysteria. MEPs are terrified of the rise of populism and of movements committed to national sovereignty, and they are directing their anger towards Hungary. They cannot be allowed to succeed.

"8-year-old girl who died in Border Patrol custody had a 104.9 fever on 5/16, the day before she died, according to CBP.
On the day she died - May 17 - a nurse practitioner denied 3 or 4 requests for an ambulance or for a hospital visit, per CBP"
Tragic, but that sounds like a judgment error by the nurse practitioner rather than a problem with CBP.
For those unaware, a nurse practitioner is an advanced practice RN. They're trained to assess patients, order tests, diagnose , formulate and prescribe medications and treatment plans. Becoming a nurse practitioner requires either a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice.
He/She was far more qualified than ambulance EMT's or triage nurses at an ER, so the issue wasn't the unavailability of qualified medical care.
Sounds more like a judgements error of her parents, who sent her to the US to commit a crime
Crossing the border, practically *any* international border, *legally* with anything above a 100-degree fever is a bad idea for at least a couple of reasons.
Of course, your conception may be the correct one as it's entirely possible that her parents ejected her on a border-oriented trajectory days ago without a fever.
It is often intentional. Southern Arizona is filled with 911 calls for air lifts 100 yards from the border. It is a huge cost bankrupting hospitals near the border.
No, no…… it’s our fault for being big meanies and not dismantling our sovereign borders in favor of unlimited inbound migration. At least that’s what Reason and Groomer Jeffy argue.
You mean to tell me that crossing a country's border doesn't magically cure ailments and diseases? Whaaaat?
Montana bans firearms transaction tracking.

"A financial institution may not require a firearms retailer in this state to use a firearms code that is different from that of a general transaction," Senate Bill 359 reads. The 2nd Amendment Financial Privacy Act was passed by the Legislature in April and signed into law by Gov. Greg Gianforte last month.
"Americans exercising their right to legally purchase firearms and ammunition should never be threatened by private financial service providers or government authorities to having their name and financial data being added to a government-accessible watchlist simply for exercising their Second Amendment rights," Lawrence Keane, National Shooting Sports Foundation senior vice president and general counsel, said in a statement. "Governor Gianforte is ensuring that Montanans won’t be held captive by the radical ‘woke’ antigun agenda that seeks to weaponize credit cards in gun owners’ wallets against them."

When the state requires, rather than asks, they have exceeded what they should be permitted to do. You're only libertarian wrt your side., being a bog-standard right-wing hypocrite suffering from (possibly syphilis-induced) delusions.
You support corporate fascism when it benefits the left. You even refuse to acknowledge the current state of the economy.
Bog standard? I'm against the majority of Republicans. See my comments on the debt limit deal retard.
Meanwhile you openly deny reality if it supports the left. You support political prosecutions, see yesterday's J6 comments. You are an open soros cocksucker defending the left. Lol.
Private corporations infringing on individual rights is hardly libertarian.
"Libertarianism is not a suicide pact" and all that.
Private corporations are not infringing on anyone's rights here. There is no right to require a private bank to allow you to bank with them.
And here shrike again denies the government influence of industry through regulatory bodies. Because he defends big government and the left at all costs.
Private corporations are not infringing on anyone’s rights here.
If they are keeping their PII beyond the point of sale, they certainly are.
There is no right to require a private bank to allow you to bank with them.
An elegant means of cutting off people who don't fall in line with the left-liberal consensus.
It's also not libertarian for private companies to support the surveillance state.
British Shrike, actually, they are required. The Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968 have been judged to apply to such institutions as banks and other private corporations that engage in commerce. One can argue that a bank choosing not to do business with someone due to his/her creed (and political orientation could fit under that) is a direct violation of those acts.
There is no right to require a private bank to allow you to bank with them.
SRG comes out for discrimination.

A record number of small businesses in Illinois couldn’t pay their rent in full or at all in May.
The small business network Alignable reports that 52% of small business owners surveyed weren’t able to pay their rent in full, the highest percentage in the country. That is an 11% increase over April.
The second highest percentage was in New York at 49%, followed by Minnesota at 47%. That is compared to 37% nationally. In contrast, only 7% of Arizona’s small businesses couldn’t handle rent payments in May, the lowest rate in the country.
The top industries dealing with rent troubles are lodging and travel, retail, construction and restaurants. In fact, retailers broke the 2023 record, making May their worst month yet this year for rent delinquency at 45%.
Business as usual.

Despite statehouse corruption on full display with guilty verdicts against four individuals in the “ComEd Four” bribery trial, Illinois legislators left Springfield without sweeping ethics reforms.
A former Commonwealth Edison executive and three lobbyists, one being a close confidant of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, were convicted last month. The scheme involved giving do-nothing jobs to Madigan associates in exchange for favorable legislation for the utility. Madgian has pleaded not guilty and faces trial next spring.
Early Saturday morning just before the budget was approved, state Rep. Ryan Spain, R-Peoria, said it’s “crazy” to leave town without addressing the issue.
“And boy, I just cannot believe it that we don’t, all of us, place a priority on cleaning up the corruption that has been such a deep stain on the state of Illinois,” Spain said. “We leave a lot of work to do here.”
Mike Madigan is in the running for the most corrupt official in American history. The guy makes Boss Tweed look legitimate.
Jobs report: US economy adds 339,000 jobs in May, crushing expectations
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/may-jobs-report-june-2-2023-123218296.html
Always read Buttplug links (except darknet ones) because he never goes beyond the headline.
"The May jobs report released Friday showed the US economy remains strong with more than 300,000 jobs created last month, while the unemployment rate rose to 3.7%."
Title of the chart in the link: "MAY JOBS REPORT CRUSHES EXPECTATIONS, EVEN AS UNEMPLOYMENT RISES".
Talk about polishing a turd. Who would actually fall for that? Don't say 'Buttplug' because he knows he's spreading lies.
Trump’s Final Numbers
Statistical indicators of President Trump's four years in office.
.
As we did for his predecessor four years ago, we present a final look at the numbers.
.
The economy lost 2.9 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.6 percentage points to 6.3%.
https://www.factcheck.org/2021/10/trumps-final-numbers/
I wonder if any unusual events happened during the Trump presidency that might make this citation retarded.
COVID was the third most destructive event this century behind 9/11 and the worst by far - the 2008 Financial Collapse.
It's like we say in golf - the scorecard doesn't have room for excuses.
But it's got tons of space for outright lies.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar. If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental. turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Some minor issue which a lying pile of TDS-addled lefty shit could use to cherry pick some data?
Why, who on this board would do such a thing?
turd would and does. turd is a lying pile of TDS-addled lefty shit.
Look at you. Caught in a lie so you're trying to change the subject and blame Trump for Covid lockdowns.
Pretty weak beer, Buttplug, I hope that you didn't get fifty-cents for that.
Did you just call shrike the bud light of narrative pushers?
Why is Bud Light like sex in a canoe?
It's fucking close to water.
Why is Shrike like Bud Light?
His posts are less filling and taste like shit.
Perhaps Shrike could start an ad campaign for Transheuser Busch to promote underage drinking along with an underage sex advocacy program. It can be the next big thing for democrats, and a great way for him to expand options for his next victims.
I cannot imagine so.
SOMEBODY likes Bud Light.
Fair. Although sarc defends shrike all the time here. Even when he initially disagrees with him.
ML, I'm not so sure. Fuckwit has never demonstrated comprehension of the sources it posts as citations. The fact that they typically refute the assertion is well-known, to the point of being a given. The assertion being disproved in the link title wouldn't be a surprise.
Americans hardest hit.

How many tears did the official hype man for the Biden economy cry when his libertarian crush drove a knife through his heart with this:
When asked whether Biden or Trump has done "a better job handling the economy," 54 percent said Trump and just 36 percent said Biden.
Soooooooo sad. Not only is your relentless #DefendBidenAtAllCosts gaslighting not working, it had to be ENB who broke the news to you. 🙁
Sadly, he will likely take solace in the abused rectum of some prepubescent boy.
He really needs to be doxxed.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. Turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
2017: "Trump's going to start WW3!!!"

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says that the most important thing for NATO is Russia losing in the Ukraine
"NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Thursday that all NATO allies agree that Russia cannot prevent Ukraine’s eventual membership in the military alliance.
Speaking to reporters ahead of an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo, Norway, Stoltenberg said all allies agreed that “NATO’s door is open for new members.”
“All allies also agree that Ukraine will become a member of the alliance, and all allies agree that it is for the NATO allies and Ukraine to decide when Ukraine becomes a member,” he said.
“It is not for Moscow to have a veto against NATO enlargement, but most importantly, all allies agree that the most urgent and important task now is to ensure that Ukraine prevails as a sovereign, independent nation. President [Vladimir] Putin and Russia must not win this war.”
Only the right type of elites get to start global wars.
I wonder if all these Euro-trash leaders are cousins like 100 years ago.
But this is the good and noble war one true libertarians can support. Ask sarc.
At least I'll never see it coming.
Once WW3 happens you were wrong for seeing the lead up to it.
Oh, sure, next you'll tell me that just *anyone* could've seen that the gay rights movement was going to end in disastrous insanity at pretty much any point in the last 50 yrs.
Nah, I just mean I work at a first strike target. If the Russians launch, I'm toast and I'll never even know. So I just don't bother to worry about it.
I think it's reasonable to speculate that Biden's only path to reelection is a boots on the ground war. The Neocons have been preparing the great unwashed for over a year for war with Russia and the Taiwan sabre rattling is getting pretty noisy. Nothing improves a president's approval ratings more than committing the nation to battling some overseas evil doer. He is very much aware of this fact and he has surrounded himself with war mongers. But the world's geopolitics have changed greatly since GW assembled his coalition of the willing. Outside of NATO, most of which is currently committing economic suicide, and whack jobs like Fidel Jr., the U.S. will be at war with the rest of the world. But this regime is just crazy enough to do it anyway.
Biden’s path to re election includes illegal election law court decisions in swing states, ballot harvesting, rigged voting machines, and outright phony ballots.
Yup.
“I think it’s reasonable to speculate that Biden’s only path to reelection is a boots on the ground war.”
Aww fuck. Am I going to have to go through all the “traitor” and “chicken” bullshit I heard during the Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq wars again?
(Canada sat out Iraq, but I heard plenty from American neocons)
But the world’s geopolitics have changed greatly since GW assembled his coalition of the willing.
And even if they hadn't changed, retaliating against the Taliban or Hussein isn't initiating against China or Russia. Waiving vials of Anthrax was never going to get Germany or France or the UK to enter an unprecipitated war with Russia or China.
"Biden’s only path to reelection is a boots on the ground war. "
I think someone forgot about "fortified" elections. He'll be fine with or without a war.
Biden and the Democrats just need hooves on the ground; 8,000 of them.
I mean, he's not necessarily wrong that it would be beneficial to NATO for Russia to lose this war. It's why we've been supplying them with arms and providing graft payouts to Ukraine's leaders.
Queerly Corporate.
https://nypost.com/2023/06/01/i-fought-for-gay-rights-but-trans-activists-have-destroyed-the-meaning-of-pride/
Back then, a rainbow flag outside a bar or other establishment meant you could walk in without being kicked out — or worse. Flying it was a risk — and an act of humanity.
Then gay rights emerged, and Pride marches — i.e., earnest demonstrations for equality — morphed into Pride parades — i.e., silly displays.
Pride Month was born, complete with corporate sponsors.
Then there’s this: Pride Month isn’t just about gays anymore.
It’s about the whole “LGBTQI+” crowd — a “community” most gays never asked to join and whose guiding ideology makes most of us scratch our heads in confusion.
Indeed, we’re in the odd position of seeing what used to be our movement co-opted by activists whose wacky theories about the nature of gender render such labels as male and female, gay and straight, utterly meaningless.
Why, then, are major firms — the kind that, years ago, were reluctant to dip their toes too early into the still-chilly waters of the gay-rights movement — pushing this creepy new stuff so eagerly?
But it’s being pushed relentlessly by groups like Human Rights Campaign (a gay-rights organization turned avid promoter of transgenderism) and, as presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy has noted, by giant investment bankers like BlackRock and Vanguard Group that, for whatever reason, are devoutly committed to the woke agenda.
"I tried to push us down the slippery slope PART of the way but these creeps are taking it ALL the way!!!"
IWE tried to push us down the slippery slope PART of the way but these creeps are taking it ALL the way!!!Again, it's not like we got halfway down the slope and nobody had any idea that BTQI was part of the movement *and* that we were probably going to end up at the very bottom of the slope. The Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries and the unequivocal beclowning-woman-face Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have been around and competing with the Lesbian, if not the larger portion of the gay rights movement since the very beginning.
And the one thing about the movement that got swept under the rug and suppressed in the early-mid 80s was their alliance with gay pedophiles, who had actually been pretty prominent in those efforts during the mid-late 70s. They did manage to keep this tamped down pretty effectively up until after Y2K, when the NAMBLA types started reasserting themselves via support from leftist webzines like Salon and "queering" everything became a more prominent hobbyhorse in academia.
Indeed, we’re in the odd position of seeing what used to be our movement co-opted by activists whose wacky theories about the nature of gender render such labels as male and female, gay and straight, utterly meaningless.
Bull-fucking-shit. Since the beginning, back before rainbows were a flag, before they were even an album cover, back when rainbows symbolized God's Promise and Joseph's Coat, you were told by both the movement and by the counter movement that the 'BTQI+' were explicitly included. Trannies and crossdressers were part of the movement at Stonewall. The mirror, shield-and-spear, and transgender mirror-shield-spear... thing is on Gay Liberation Front signage pre-dating Stonewall. The feminist-lesbian (proto-TERF) portion of the movement has been in conflict with the trans portion since Bette Midler was still up and coming.
This whole thing feels a lot like, "Overton Window Shift achieved. Entrench new normal." akin to how part of the green energy movement paused to acknowledge the good work "they" had done to reduce GHG and distance themselves from the more radical mainstream elements, only for us all to wind up with more BBB and ESG.
Sounds like this Bruce guy is yet another alt-right closed minded chud.
our movement co-opted by activists whose wacky theories about the nature of gender render such labels as male and female, gay and straight, utterly meaningless.
That is what always happens when you let Marxists into your tent. They infiltrate, eliminate any moderating influences, and eventually take over. See: academia, civil rights, gay acceptance...
There was no movement before the Marxists. Again, FFS, the original political groups were literally named "Liberation Front" and "Action Revolutionaries". The more politically neutral and strictly "LG" Gay Activists Alliance sprang from the Gay Liberation Front, not the other way around.
This is specifically because there is no federal right to marry or right to sodomy. There are/were old rights to free association and to be secure in person and effects, and new rights regarding equality partially co-opted by Marxists that predate the gay rights movement and that the movement later adopted.
The idea that despite the fact that the Catholics or Scouts or tightly held corporations couldn't purge themselves of homosexuals and/or pedophiles but, somehow, a political activist group that identifies by their sexual practices somehow is going to do it, despite not having done it for the last 50 yrs., is as laughable as Hillary Clinton claiming she knows what happened in the 2016 election.
I still don't disagree with you.
Historically, I see the heavy wave of Marxism in the US in the early 20th century becoming heavily disfavored in the 30s and 40s when the truth about the Soviet collectivism becomes apparent and the ultra-national collectivism of the Axis creates chaos around the world. The Marxists switch to a longer game after the war and mostly go underground for 20 years while their sleepers gain tenure in universities and watch as McCarthy goes after everyone that has ever pissed him off and discredits the reality of the Red Scare. They then begin their ascendency in the 60s using peace and tolerance as their cover and start their long march through public schools.
I guess what I keep trying to add back to the conversation is that tolerance is an admirable goal. It is the revolutionary zealousness of Marxism that turns tolerance for all viewpoints into tolerance only for certain approved viewpoints. The goal of tolerance for homosexuality is replaced by the supremacy of intersectionality and we are left to face the insanity of the transexual moment.
I guess what I keep trying to add back to the conversation is that tolerance is an admirable goal.
IDK, "Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue."
When you're at the point of debating whether the world's largest children's entertainment corporation should continue to receive special treatment after advocating for the sexualization of K-3 minors in public schools, it's pretty clear to me that you could stand to lay off the tolerance.
I don't agree that tolerance is bad, but it's being and been used as a stalking horse in much the same 'BOAF SIDEZ' fashion as sexism, racism, discrimination, diversity, etc.

How other evidence known relates to the FD-1023 case regarding Hunter Biden and his foreign deals while Joe was VP.
https://thefederalist.com/2023/05/31/breadcrumbs-from-a-buried-fbi-source-may-lead-to-a-bigger-biden-scandal/
The date of the FD-1023 form, June 30, 2020, also proves significant when read in conjunction with Grassley’s letter to Wray in July 2022. In that letter, Grassley said the whistleblower had claimed that “the FBI developed information in 2020 about Hunter Biden’s criminal financial and related activity,” but “that in August 2020, FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten opened an assessment which was used by a FBI Headquarters (‘FBI HQ’) team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease.”
Meanwhile NARA is refusing to release emails between Joe Biden and Hunter Biden (AND business associates) claiming they were White House advisors.
https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/archives-refuses-release-emails-between-hunter-biden-fathers-staff-citing-privilege
I don't know that it even matters at this point. Biden will be out of office and years buried before anything come of this, all of the election crap will have been gotten away with, and America will still have been fist-fucked by his policies. And then nothing will happen to anyone else either.
Or, maybe he'll start WWIII and I'll be too dead to notice.
Thats the sad part. The institutions are captured. But so is Reason so they ignore it.
Reason and its editors/writers write about and slant an article however their benefactor, Charles Koch dictates them to take. No more and no less. When David Koch was alive and well, Reason was actually pretty decent at being libertarian. Now, with Charles Koch running things, being friends with George Soros, and going to the WEF, Reason has had more articles that champion the WEF way, are far less libertarian, and far more in tune with Soros's "Open Society".
Kinda wish Orwell had left us an instruction manual instead of them.
Yeah, if reporters were objective truth-seekers instead of Democratic ball washers, Kennedy never would have even sniffed political office, much less the Presidency.
Yeah, if reporters were objective truth-seekers instead of Democratic ball washers, Kennedy never would have even sniffed political office, much less the Presidency. Someone with him and his family's level of dirty laundry would have been obliterated had they been Republicans.
So...Congress should raid NARA HQ and take whatever docs are needed?

There's a reason The Atlantic ran this article last fall, they're front running the narrative.
Also the use of "rare" in that title will ultimately be found to be doing a lot of heavy lifting.

100% safe and effective.
My brother was a full on vaccine enthusiast. Got all the jabs and boosters. He was a devout Christian who led an absurdly clean life no smoking, drinking or overeating and no pre existing health issues. Last year he contracted an extremely rare leukemia and was dead in three weeks. OK. He was 68 years old and shit happens and I have no way of knowing if the jab has anything to do with it. And there's no way anybody who knows will ever release the full stats. But I can't help but be suspicious.
I haven’t heard of the COVID ‘vaccines’ causing cancer. I’m guessing they’re not related.
Sorry to hear you lost your brother.

Now there's a dilemma. Does a true libertarian want to see Hunter strung up by the balls and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, or does a true libertarian question the Constitutionality of the laws he would be charged under.
Principal or principle, that is the question.
Pretty sure that a "true libertarian" does everything that the Democratic Party wants. Right?
Not only a No True Scotsman, but an argument that libertarianism means choosing to focus on the 'Constitutionality' of laws versus the fact that the law is on the books and was broken. Twofer!
Here I thought libertarians were big fans of jury nullification when someone is obviously guilty of an unjust law, no matter how much they may hate the accused.
Are you really confused about libertarians', that definition including both anti-Reason commenters as well as Reason, feelings on nepotism? For the amount of time you spend around here you really are shit stupid if you don't understand libertarianism by now.
It's almost like you do understand and are just acting shit stupid because you don't know any other way to act or get attention.
What does nepotism have to do with Hunter's violation of the 1968 Gun Control Act?
Nothing more or less than the *three* unsuccessful emoluments cases that were filed against Trump, his family, and businesses, one of which was brought by 215 Congresscritters... assuming Hunter ever actually spends a day in court.
Busting Hunter for using drugs while filling out an ATF form is nepotism because Trump.
Sure buddy.
Sarc, it’s over. Now go hide from me you little bitch.
It's his typical unprincipled "nihilist's tophat" as well.
I could say, "Alec Baldwin and Hunter Biden deserve the exact same legal treatment as Kyle Rittenhouse and Dominic Black."
That could be a libertarian take, a law and order take, an equality before the law take, even a racial equity take, and more with minor extrapolation; each exceptionally principled in several/many/all such interpretations. However, because he's such a transcendentally non-partisan* thinker, he has to boil it down to a false dichotomy.
*Read: Dishonest, subhuman, shit bag.
Now there’s a dilemma. Does a true libertarian want to see Hunter strung up by the balls and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, or does a true libertarian question the Constitutionality of the laws he would be charged under.
Principal or principle, that is the question.
It's not Hunter we want, it's his criminal father. Hunter has done nothing to infringe on Americans' freedoms, but Joe should be tried for treason.
Treason? What is the treason charge against Joe Biden?
bri. ber. y.
The word, treason, has a specific meaning. A politician doesn’t commit treason merely by being on the take.
He is accused of adjusting policy based on foreign actors paying him. His role as VP is to represent American interests, not foreign interests. It is the same as selling government secrets to a foreign adversary.
Try to keep up sea lion.
He is accused of adjusting policy based on foreign actors paying him.
Mike is being intentionally obtuse.
Treason: “the crime of betraying one’s country, especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government.”
Insisting that words have meaning is being obtuse. Got it, Bob.
Levying war or conspiring to levy war against the state, or adhering to the enemy.
COTUS definition. You know, the document Biden swore to uphold.
*Waiting for you to redefine the word "enemy".
Nah, my next question would be what specific act of Joe Biden’s we are discussing.
Everything after especially is an example. People have been convicted of treason for selling state secrets dumdum. Adjusting foreign policy for other countries is equivalent.
There's plenty of other shit to justify stringing up Hunter by his ballsack.
Loudon County prosecutors continue to go after the father whose daughter was raped and the school attempted a cover up of the incident. This time for calling an activist a bitch. Yes. For calling someone a bitch.
https://www.dailywire.com/news/father-of-loudoun-rape-victim-dealt-another-blow-in-court-when-will-the-healing-begin
I think the days around the trial date may be good ones for passing out fliers on jury nullification.
Dad must have lost his guns in a boating accident as one could reasonably conclude many fathers in his situation would now be in jail for attempted murder or worse. Loudon County used to be Mosby's Confederacy and any rapists and enablers would have been swinging from a limb.
Fucking insane. If that's disorderly conduct, then couldn't saying anything to anyone be disorderly conduct? You never know what might incite someone to violence. I don't see how it is valid on first amendment grounds.
I don’t see how it is valid on first amendment grounds.
And? Why would it matter if it isn't? The point is to intimidate people into silence, not to win on appeal. The prosecutor and the judge enjoy sovereign immunity.
A judge actually said those words and has not been censured. Said them to a man whose daughter was raped for calling an activist a bitch after she taunted him about his daughter's rape and openly declared an intention to ruin his business.
Only calling her a bitch shows more restraint than I would have in that situation. Knock the bitch out and catch a legit charge.
Well this is awkward. New peer reviewed study states the risk of contracting goes up based on the number of covid vaccines you get.
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/benbartee/2023/05/30/peer-reviewed-study-the-higher-the-number-of-vaccines-previously-received-the-higher-the-risk-of-contracting-covid-19-n1699197
Poor JFree. He's on his, what, fifty-third? fifty-forth?
on the other hand we know the value of "peer reviewed"
It is fairly low. But the journals have now retracted over 300 “peer reviewed” covid catastrophe articles. So science is trying to clean itself up a little.
And getting anti covid studies like this through peer review is pretty damn difficult.
"contracting goes up based on the number of covid vaccines you get"
That's the "effective" part of "safe and effective."
I thought we already knew that. I guess not in a properly published study. Anecdotally it seems pretty true. Pretty much everyone I work with who took the vaccines has been out sick with covid. I haven't had more than a minor sniffle or cough for a few days in probably 6 years.
I've noticed that as well, yet I've never seem to have gotten the symptoms. I took the one-shot J&J vaccine back in April 2021, when I thought this might have a chance, but nothing since then, and definitely no mRNA vaccines. I've seen other coworkers who've taken the full slate of mRNA vaccines out with Covid, not once, but multiple times.
It is/was personally true. The family member with the most positive tests (either method) with concomitant symptoms is fully vaccinated. The family member with the least positive tests (either method) with concomitant symptoms is, still, unvaccinated.
Everyone on my team at work had to get the jab. Nobody's gotten majorly sick.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
"People who got the jab and shouldn't get sick got sick and people who didn't get the jab and should've gotten sick didn't. Both sides. I don't understand, how can both things possibly be true?" -sarcasmic
Blah. blah. blah.
You're a tired, unimaginative, socially-maligned partisan hack we get it.
Get help.
Lee Fang has an article put discussing how tech companies have laid off 85k workers and just a couple of months later are requesting 35k foreign H1-B Visas. Calling into question that if these are jobs Americans won't do.
https://www.leefang.com/p/big-tech-resumed-hiring-foreign-workers
I don't care whether American workers would have done those jobs or not. Immigrants should be allowed to enter the US with minimum identity and security checks and take any job that's available without restriction at any wage that they find acceptable. If Americans want to compete for those jobs they should have to compete on wages as well. There should be no restrictions on wages. There should be no regulations on collective bargaining. Employers have the jobs, not the employees. Employers should be free to negotiate with unions or not as they choose. There should be no government welfare for Americans or immigrants (except temporary emergency medical care) Visitors who commit crimes while in the US should be punished according to American laws.
Eat a dick
Fine. Get rid of welfare state first and enforce sponsorship requirements to fund any government dollar taken by an immigrant here on visa. That is not being done. Until it is, fuck off with your idealistic bullshit. Live in the real world. This includes corporate welfare and regulations that exempt companies from certain ACA requirements on foreign workers.
Until the above happens there is no advocacy for open borders. Full stop.
And only for countries that reciprocate the practice. A free market is not free when one of the actors is not practicing with those ideals. Idealism without analysis is suicide.
^this is the point of contention . I'm all for letting everyone who isnt a criminal into the country. but you cant do that with a generous welfare state and generous spending for special classes of citizens.
Good, then we agree! I would recommend getting rid of all welfare AT THE SAME TIME as removing all immigration and labor regulation laws, since the "you first!" tactic has never worked in the history of the United States and is not likely to ever work in the future.
At the same time doesn’t work. After the fact does not work. The only solution that works is ending the welfare state first. See the 1986 immigration reform where the agreement was citizenship for security updates later. The later never came.
Are you blind to how giving up now with agreements later don’t work? And doing it at the same time definitely does not work as dems will never give up welfare. Therefore no open borders. Glad we got past the idealism.
So now that you agree with the current state of reality. Are you still for these companies firing Americans and importing foreigners? Yes or no.
Shorter version: in an agreement, you expect to be trusted, but don't trust others. Fair enough, we've all been burned in one way or another.
FWIW, I think you're sincere. But you don't speak for the larger anti-immigrant movement. I believe commenters like hoppy and Nardz are more representative, and they'll be against open immigration regardless of the welfare state. For them it's about culture preservation, eliminating competition for jobs, and simply believing that immigrants are inherently inferior.
I’ve dealt with the costs my near entire life. I have found most rabid open borders people are far from the border.
See blue states in the NE crying about 1% of the costs.
I feel like if the "welfare state" ended, it would partially solve the illegal immigration issue. Without the slew of free stuff/benefits, it's possible less people would be clamoring to sneak in here.
It wouldn’t. They are coming for work, not welfare.
Cool story bro. Got anymore fairy tales?
How many illegal immigrants have you talked to Mike? My guess is zero.
I suspect it would reduce the number of people who remain here after sneaking in. Very few people come to America for welfare benefits and I think that motivation is vastly over-stated by the anti-immigration crowd.
Beyond the welfare state and future benefits, what about the contributions that current citizens have already made to create the nation we have now, both in terms of law and physical infrastructure? These things have value to residents. Why not charge immigrants to make up for "missed" contributions?
There's other thing a libertarian would require. Reciprocity.
If I can't freely cross the border to enter their country in the same way, then it's a one-sided proposal.
Disagree. I think I'm about as libertarian as anyone can be and I do not insist upon reciprocity. The only thing I insist upon is that anyone who lives in the United States does not depend on the government for subsistence. We cannot deport citizens who refuse to support themselves, but we can refuse to support them. We can deport visitors who refuse to support themselves, and perhaps we should, or we can let voluntary charitable people support them. I think almost all citizens would agree with tax-funded temporary emergency medical treatment for anyone who needs it and cannot afford to pay for it, although I will accept any evidence to the contrary. That's the only exception I am willing to support.
I think I’m about as libertarian as anyone can be and I do not insist upon reciprocity.
Well then you can't ask anyone domestically for any indulgence of any of your retarded flights of fancy either and are, instead, somewhat literally entitled only to go fuck yourself.

We know that Pelosi personally ordered the Hill Police to stand down, that the DOJ, DHS and FBI had a "sizeable" number of undercover agents in the crowd, and the Secret Service had "200-300".
Sure smells like instigation to me.
That morning Pelosi asked the DoD about removing Trump from the military chain of command. They turned her down saying that it would be a coup.
It's pretty obvious that Pelosi and the alphabet agencies need to be investigated... but by who I don't know.
They'll investigate themselves and find that they did nothing wrong.
"We know that Pelosi personally ordered the Hill Police to stand down, that the DOJ, DHS and FBI had a “sizeable” number of undercover agents in the crowd, and the Secret Service had “200-300”."
If by "we" you mean people who accept anything that supports their side or hurts the other side at face value, no support or evidence necessary and vague insinuations treated as fact, you are correct.
If you mean people who insist on details and specificity, plus evidence of action, to claim something as serious as "instigation", no. We know nothing of the sort.
Do you really believe there were 200-300 law enforcement personnel in the crowd, total, never mind that many from just the Secret Service?
Yes. One of the J6 committee's own witnesses said so under oath. Maybe ask for a NYT subscription from your boss for better fifty-centing, Jeff.
Testimony says yes.
Plus, the Metro PD had undercovers in there, along with a complete schedule of protest events.

"Son, you're out of uniform."
Also, the comments pointing out the exact thing that FIRE sued a private university in the name of free speech over: even if the stupid deer head belongs to the guy, the badges and backdrops aren't exactly his.
That’s not even a deer, it’s a wolf that guy slapped antlers on to. Is this some sort of double-trans-species play or something? Is he a deer, stuck in the body of a wolf, stuck in the body of a man?
The provision in question—part of the Gun Control Act of 1968—is, frankly, insane, preventing any person "who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance" from buying a gun. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has interpreted this provision to mean that anyone who has used any illegal drug in the past 12 months cannot legally purchase a gun.
Challenging the provision will not protect Hunter. The crime he committed was lying under threat of perjury on a federal form.
The policy may be bad but it doesn't cover the perjury charge. It wouldn't remove Hunters guilt. Proper challenger would be being denied a gun blaster answering yes on the form.
ENB always seems to miss the little things. Hunter still perjured himself.
Washington State capital paints crosswalks pink and blue for Pride Month, cites 'increase in hate crimes' against trans people
See the game? A mid-level provocation. They paint the street, and anything that happens to it or is said about it is classified as an "anti-LGBTQ hate crime," which they'll then misleadingly report are on the rise.
Fascist tactics.
Only pink and blue? Sounds like cis-gender Nazis to me.
Why are we spending tax money promoting ideologies? Based on precedent someone in washing should be able to choose messages for other cross walks.
I'm sure they'll let someone paint a "thin blue line" one *aaaaaany* day now.
And symbols of conquest need to be destroyed.
This constant refrain of "it's provocative, thus don't react" is just fearful inaction dressed up as wisdom.
You cannot defeat a regime you constantly submit to.
Tearing down statues from the 1800s good. Defacing political images of the left bad. Simple.
Tearing down hand-carved 100 yr. old statues good. Defacing week-old political messages done with the skill of a 12 yr. old, in a non-approved way*, bad.
*The abrupt, obliviously corny, 80s-era sitcom non-ending to this story could not be more laughable. You people are bad parodies of originally bad writing and you're, presumably, supposed to be real people.

This comes on heels of evidence fr @jean_twenge’s new book, *Generations*, which shows HS boys turning right (even as female peers turn left). Stunning ideological divide among HS seniors today:
✔️ @ 65% of HS senior boys conservative
✔️ @ 31% of HS senior girls conservative
I suspect a lot of that is due to 1) boys' natural inclination at that age to push back against perceived powers, which is currently the political left, and 2) the growing realization via online forums regarding how feminism has disincentivized them to seek out long-term relationships with women. Considering the growing attendance disparity between men and women at colleges, I expect this divide to grow over the next 5-10 years.

This is a Win-Win for Republicans. Either Hunter defeats his dad's policy or he provides further embarrassment to his dad.
Either way there's an upside.
Comer says Wray confirmed existence of record reporting alleged Biden bribery scheme, which the White House strongly refutes
The FBI and DoJ are supposed to be nonpartisan. But while DoJ is releasing info relating to its investigation of Trump, it is refusing to let Congress see a document that may show Biden’s involvement in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national. It’s a double standard.
“They believe the form ‘describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions.’”
The FBI was sitting on Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020 while “former” FBI & CIA officials spread the ridiculous conspiracy theory that it was Russian disinformation.
It shouldn’t have to be said that one need not like Trump nor dislike Biden to be concerned by the FBI’s plainly partisan behavior. What explains why FBI/DoJ would release info relating to Trump but stifle info relating to Biden? All Americans should be alarmed by this bias.
What’s more, it’s actually worse than a double standard. There is no good obvious excuse for why the FBI director would defy Congress in this way, nor is there a good obvious excuse for why DoJ would leak, other than partisan political motivation. Public trust in FBI/DoJ is dying.

→ Biden family text chain for scams: It’s largely settled fact that nine members of the extended Biden clan started getting paid by foreign entities before and during Biden’s vice presidency, but the game everyone in mainstream media plays is that Joe Biden had no idea and no involvement. That’s a fine excuse if, say, an 18-year-old Natalie Biden was caught drinking a white wine spritzer in the Rose Garden. But this is. . . not that.
This week messages between Hunter Biden and Joe’s brother Jim emerged, showing the two of them discussing Hunter’s financial straits, with Jim saying the young Biden needs “a safe harbor” and that “I can work with you[r] father alone!”

10 grams.

Is there a limit on how many bugs I can eat per day?

John Grisham's famous novel, A Time To Kill, which was adapted into a successful film starring Samuel L. Jackson and Matthew McConaughey, was based on a real brutal crime that Grisham was exposed to in his lawyer days.
Willie James Harris raped two young girls, aged 16 and 12. Grisham's novel is based on the idea of what would happen if the father took revenge.
He did make some changes tho. Willie James Harris was black and the two underaged girls he brutally raped were white.

Must be too partisan to get a mention here.
So if Hunter Biden perjured himself by signing officially that he didn't abuse illegal substances in order to purchase a gun where the affidavit violates the Second Amendment wouldn't the government still have to prove that he was, in fact, violating the law by using illegal drugs at the time before they could prove that he violated the law against perjury? And if he didn't violate the perjury law because the affidavit was unconstitutional at the time he signed it and they can't prove that he was illegally using drugs at the time and his purchase of the gun did not violate the law, is he guilty of any crimes at all? This makes my head hurt! Reminds me of the time that Martha Stewart was convicted of lying to the FBI when she said she did not commit the crime that they did not charge her with!
He admits he was using illegal drugs at the time and got kicked out of the military for failing a drug test. That much is in the public record. His defense is silly and he'll only get a fine and public service anyway. If DOJ bothers to prosecute.
It shouldn’t be legal to give someone prison time for lying in court unless a charge of more substance accompanies it. OK, I said that awkwardly: perjury should only ever be an add-on charge.
Mike, please allow me to point out some things. Even if you haven’t committed any underlying crime:
1. You could be lying to send someone innocent to jail.
2. You could be lying to protect someone guilty.
3. You could be lying to screw with someone else’s attempt to get justice in a civil case.
Plenty of good reasons to have a standalone crime of perjury.
OK, fair enough. Perjury in those cases should be punishable.
Martha Stewart shouldn’t have gone to prison. There have been a lot of similar cases of people being imprisoned for nothing more than perjury.
I've seen thousands of acts of perjury ignored. Otherwise the courts would get nothing done but jail-filling. Never have I seen a female judge demand that anyone swear "so help me God." Ever since G. Washingon added that calque to his oath of office, Evangelical male judges have used it to flog plaintiff, defends and witness alike. Let Ketjani Brown know that a woman judge is one who does not bully victims into swearing by the Old Testament ogre, or hold them in contempt for swearing "so help me Athena, Diana, Minerva or None of the Above."
We get it. You’re an anti Christian bigot leftist.
Now go away. You have no credibility here, and are treated as a raving buffoon. Which you are.
Martha Stewart conviction was less about lying to the feds and more about insider trading, you have it your way though... In the Hunter B case, as Gaear says, Hunter has documented that he was a habitual user of crack at the time. The 'unconstitutional' portion of the argument is a strawman. Yes, it may be next to impossible to concretely prove that he was 'illegally using drugs at the time,' but the same can be said for any criminal and any criminal activity.
Both sides acknowledged that the deal [...] was far from perfect but necessary to avoid a disastrous default.
and boaf sides lied here. defaulting on current debt is not an automatic consequence of failure to secure more debt.
Millennials are moving to the right.
As people get older and get married and have kids and buy houses they become less communist.
Communists aren't attracted to the Jesus myth. Exceptions were avowedly celibate Latin American men who in the 1980s supported popular Stalinista revolts against Reagan, Biden, Kerry et alii sending agents and gunships to throttle their governments, kill their elected leaders and take over the banks. Liberation Theology altruists were immediately denounced as Christian impersonators--Ayatollas unfaithful to Jerry Falwell--by the Kleptocracy media. With no dissenting electronic platforms to question the tarbrush lynching, the label stuck and the DEA took over Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and crippled everyone else. Right is communism+Jesus=Hitler.
Yeah? And then what happened?…..
• Millennials are moving to the right.
This is the New York Times, so their definition of "Shifting right," probably means they're not devout Leninists.
Baby steps.
If they moved right of conservatives the New York Times would call them libertarian.
I respectfully disagree, the NYT considers libertarians to be borderline Nazis that smoke weed.
To them Nazi means to the right of Trump. So it looks like you're agreeing.
Possibly so, I'm lazy and didn't read the whole thread.
I’m not sure the New York Times acknowledges the existence of libertarians. Possibly hasn’t heard of them.
On this, the nyt is taking a fairly center-left view, compared to progressives. Ask Mother's Lament about the sociopolitical culture of the affluent & entitled in/around greater Toronto. And then take a look at the viewpoints from jackasses in progressive shitholes around the US.
I seem to recall Ayatolla as the Noo Yawk Toim for throwback mystics more hysterically fanatical than Reagan, Bush or Falwell.
Yeah? And then what happened?….
That’s kind of what I was thinking. When Greenwald and Brendan O’Neill (self-described Marxist) are tools of “the alt-right”, that could just mean that Millennials only think there are 41 genders instead of 42.
"moving to the right" likely means they are still commies they just dont support mutilating young gay boys as much as they used to.
Ronnie, Biden and Nancy's "Say No-No" Hitlerjugend have lately progressed from age 10 to age 47. Christian National Socialist propaganda bombardment is again obviously effective at creating hateful mystics. Comparing their policies and platforms, Nazi endorsement of Positive Christanity plus Death to Jews are the only distinguishing features. Take any communist child, threaten it with eternal Hellfire for doubters and bam! Instant Nazi--just add Jesus dinning and shake well.
Attempting to lower our standard.
https://johnkassnews.com/electric-cars-wont-save-the-planet/
The Biden Administration wants to do away with the ICE automobile with its beautifully refined mechanisms of block, cylinders, pistons, rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, stroke, cycles and exhaust systems that 100 years of mechanical innovation have givens us. Instead we are being sold on huge batteries to power EVs ((with fake exhaust sounds) and the $trillions it will take to convert our auto fleets and refueling stations.
Our lives and the economy are dependent on energy but it’s as if the Biden administration wants to destroy both. Every day we see new rules and regulations being proposed from banning gas stoves to light bulbs to dishwashers that don’t clean and now draconian clean air rules for automobiles and trucks.
The Biden administration’s war on internal combustion automobiles and jihad against natural gas electric plants won’t work. As a former member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee let me count a few of the ways that forcing taxpayers to subsidize EVs and making manufacturers abandon the ICE is poor policy.
It takes a lot of energy and natural resources to make an EV. Besides the energy it takes to dig lithium’s enormous pits, digging a ton of lithium requires 500,000 liters of water with contaminated wastewater runoff. Massive mining operations in South American threaten their environment if not ours. In addition, each battery requires a mile of copper wiring which requires increased copper mining.
The batteries have unique problems that ICEs don’t. “Thermal runaway” of batteries can cause intense and unpredictable battery fires. A Norwegian ferry does not allow EVs on board because of the fire hazard. EV fires are very difficult to put out and use 40 times more water to douse an EV than a burning ICE engine. Unless homeowners install dedicated circuits, the charging station may represent increased fire risk. The cost of home-charging materials and installation adds $thousands to the cost of using Evs.
America’s electric grid already faces shortfalls with blackouts when demand peaks in summer or winter. Increased demand from EVs will strain our grid unless there is massive spending to increase capacity. America lacks charging infrastructure, especially in rural areas. In June 2022 there were almost 1.5 million registered EVs and about 130,000 charging stations. Using a Level 2 charger it takes 7-10 hours to fully charge. Faster charging stations will be necessary but decrease the life of the battery.
Instead of misguided energy dictates, the Biden Administration should focus on increasing carbon dioxide free nuclear power for the electric grid. But that is a topic for another day. Americans who love their ICE cars are not buying the EV hype. Less than twenty per cent say it’s likely they will buy an electric vehicle. The Biden Administration should think twice about forcing us to abandon our internal combustion “Lizzie” for EV “Sparky.”
Currently, about 8% of total US energy demand is met by wind and solar. Around 80% is met by burning something. I don’t see that changing much in nine years.
Technically you are not allowed to check baggage with a L/ion battery on a plane.
Nope, you cannot check baggage with a lithium-ion battery of any sort. You can't even ship them as air cargo in bulk due to the fire and subsequent crash of UPS Flight 6.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPS_Airlines_Flight_6
https://avherald.com/h?article=4307772e&opt=0
This is my argument against EVs in general, and the forced deletion of the ICE engine in specific. We've gotten ICE engines to the point where they are **really** good. Throwing that way is retarded. Hybrids make some measure of sense. Pure EVs are fucking stupid.
Super long, but eye-opening.
The Dodgers and Blue Jays both gave in to pressure from woke activists.
This happens is woke activists have sophisticated tactics for pressuring people into giving them what they want.
So, I’m going to explain EXACTLY how their tactics work so you can fight back.
Using the activist handbook “Beautiful Trouble,” as our guide I’ll show you how none of the protests, marches, or social media campaigns are spontaneous, but are in fact well planned actions created by activists in order to extract concessions from whoever they target.
The first step is called “power-mapping.” Power mapping is: “A tool to not only identify who holds that power, but, crucially, who holds influence over that person, and, therefore, who to target with your direct actions”
This is how the woke “survey the battlefield.”
Power mapping is how the woke determine who has the power to give them what they want, and how they can be vulnerable to pressure. Remember, the woke want to take power, and to do that they need to know WHO to take it from and how. Power mapping tells them who has power.
Look at the diagram on power-mapping from Beautiful Trouble. Note that it includes their friends, their church, their family….everyone. The woke are looking for any angle they can find to put pressure on the person they are targeting. [diagram]
Once they map the power dynamics: who has the power, and the pressure points of those people, they have to figure out who to target. Sometimes the target has no direct weaknesses, so they have to go after them indirectly.
That means the woke: “Choose your target wisely”
You must “Choose your target wisely” because, In their words: “You might not have enough power to push your primary target at first, but your actions may help you identify a secondary target…that can be pressured to leverage their influence on the primary target.”
If done correctly, the can determine smaller more vulnerable targets that can be pressured and leveraged to go after much bigger targets. Like a domino effect where a small domino knock over progressively larger dominoes. [Pic 1]
See how that works? They map the power dynamics, figure out who has power, figure out where that persons pressure points are (in both their professional and *PRIVATE* life), and who they can pressure in order to build leverage and momentum to go after the main target.
To Quote Beautiful Trouble: “You might not have enough power to push your primary target at first, but your actions may help you identify a secondary target — an individual or group that can be pressured to leverage their influence on the primary target” Just like dominos.
Once they pick a target they analyze the "spectrum of allies."
The idea behind the spectrum of allies is that society isn't divided into those who are for you or against you, society is actually a spectrum of various opinions on all sides, and the woke want to know who stands where.
The woke determine the social blocs in play (the people/groups involved) and put them into 5 categories:
- active allies-who fight with them
- passive allies - who agree but don't act
- neutrals
- passive opposition-who disagree but don't act
- active opposition - who actively fight them
The goal is to shift each group over one notch on the spectrum (IE: They want passive opposition to become neutral, Neutrals to become passive allies, and passive allies to become active allies). If each group moves over one notch, that shifts the entire spectrum.
[diagram]
The Dodgers were Passive allies (allowing a pride night but not hostility to Catholics) who were shifted into being Active Allies.
Blues Jays pitcher Anthony Bass was outspoken ACTIVE opposition who was shifted one notch into passive opposition and must be quiet.
See that?
As beautiful Trouble says: "Movements seldom win by overpowering the opposition; they win by shifting support out from under it". The woke realize that people might not totally agree with them, but if everyone moves one notch toward them they shift society in their direction.
So, once the woke have done all that, they act.
The first strategy is to put their target in a "decision dilemma."
This is where they pick and action that forces the target to react, but leaves them with no good options. The target is put in an impossible situation.
For example, The Dodgers could either stand firm in their decision and get a ton of backlash from LGBT groups and the media, or they could give in and offend all the Catholics.
They are forced to pick a side, and have no easy way out. That's a Decision Dilemma.
The same is true with blockades. If the police arrest you, you get to look like a martyr, if they don't you now control the road...police have no good options.
Decision Dilemma's are paired with another strategy: "The Real Action if your Target's Reaction."
The goal is for the target to react to the woke pressure tactics, but to react in a way the woke can take advantage of. It's like luring the target into a woke trap.
So, what the woke will do is force you into a situation where not matter how hard you try to please them, they'll just say it isn't good enough. And then demand more.
IF you don't give in you get called a bigot, if you do give in, they just ask for more and demand more.
Any reaction you give creates more publicity, draws more attention to the fight, and creates more bad publicity for you.
See how that works? The whole POINT is to leave you with only bad options in hopes that you'll just cave completely.
Once all of this is going on, and the woke have done an action (protest, boycott, demands, etc.) they now have to win the fight in the media. They have tactics for this as well.
First "Seize the Means of Communication".
So how do you do that? Well, Beautiful Trouble does not say exactly, but they do tell us one way that you might do that, and it is "Do the Media's Work For Them."
Basically, give the journalists the story you want them to write, and let THEM print it so it looks authentic. This is how woke activist talking points come out of the mouths of so many journalists.
Further, they want to make sure that they tape their own events, publicize their own events, and try to wage a sort of narrative warfare that allows them to control the narrative....
Again, none of this is organic or spontaneous....all of it is planned.
Part of the Narrative control is to “Play to the Audience That isn’t There”
The idea here is simple, the largest audience isn’t the people at a given event, it’s people on social media and on cable news.
To Quote Beautiful Trouble again: “In a media-saturated world, the audience you care about is rarely the one witnessing your action, but rather the one you’ll reach through mass media and social media. Design your action with them in mind.”
What this means in practice is that the woke try to make it so that they always look like the victim, even when they are the ones picking the fight and trying to shut other people up.
By understanding how optics work, the woke are able to control how their actions are viewed by those watching.
Finally, there are two more ideas we need to understand before we finish. “Use Your Radical Fringe to Shift the Overton WIndow.”
This is one of the more common, and dishonest, tactics the woke engage in.
The idea is that there are two ways to win in politics.
1. The long, hard way is to continue making your actual case persistently and persuasively until your position becomes accepted.
2. The easy way is to amplify the voices of those a few notches more radical than you in order to make yourself look more moderate.
This is why the left will amplify the voices of the most radical members of their group. It is so that less crazy people look sane by comparison. This is a way of making themselves appear closer to the center then they are.
They haven’t moved to the center, they just held up the most radical person they could find to make themselves look less crazy.
Do you see how all of that works? Are you getting the picture yet?
Everything the left does, all of their successful actions, all of their victories in the culture, all of that is a result of carefully planned out analysis of the social groups in play, who has power, how the media can be used, how to shift society and the Overton window, and how to move society in their direction.
So long as conservatives refuse to engage with this, and refuse to understand how these tactics work, they will continue to get hammered.
You *MUST* understand woke tactics in order to beat them. This thread is a good start.
/fin
"Submission is how you win"
These "classical liberal" Lindsay disciples can recognize the abstract models woke/marxist strategies manifest, but they fail when trying to prescribe responses.
Their advice is always some flavor of "just point out leftists are the real racists, but don't actually do or say anything forceful" because they only understand human psychology up to a point. They can't go past broad liberal ideals despite where they've led, and ultimately crave approval, at least not extreme disapproval, from "the good people".
People follow assertiveness and strength, not passivity or weakness.
Turning the other cheek isn't going to work. They need to be condemned and challenged. Their symbols need to be defaced. They need to be confronted anywhere and everywhere, and dealt with mercilessly.
Where did you get “Submission is how you win” from, Nardz?
This is the second time now that you've accused me of promoting being a squish, without any evidence in my post. The last time you did I had actually said the exact opposite.
I like you Nardz, but I don't like how you sometimes turn your guns on your own allies over misperceptions.
I'm not saying you're submitting.
I'm saying the author of that tweet thread and his ilk promote submission.
"Just call them hypocrites, bro. But don't you dare be mean. Just accept all the same values but not as much as them. Noooo, dint actually be less tolerant or do something productive- we must be scared of the far right extremists, bro!"
That's what that dude preaches.
Maybe I’m missing something, but this is what every decent lobbyist does. It isn’t revolutionary and it isn’t just “leftists” that do it to advance “woke” goals.
It’s what issue advocates and industry lobbyists get paid billions a year to do. It’s what National Right to Life does. It’s what API (the American Petroleum Institute) does. It’s what the NRA does. It’s what PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America) does. It’s what the American Coal Council does.
Do you really think that only leftists use these strategies? Are your blinders that big?
Believe it or not, most people don't use any strategies of the sort mentioned because they're coercive and unethical.
The fact that you don't think so tells us everything we need to know about you, Jeff.
Imagine if on catholic honor night the dodgers invited a catholic group whose entire shtick was making fun of transgenders and gays.
Why?
What does imagining the shoe on the other foot, or calling out their hypocrisy actually DO?
So, cultural conservatives who are also Catholic? Where would they find such people?
See, you're like a living parody, Jeff. All of the unacknowledged biases and lack of introspection.
What mocking are you referring to?
If there is one small bit of good news to be had, it's that based on the extent to which the recent campaigns from Bud Light and Target seem like total fiascos that completely backfired, it looks like a critical mass of normal America just may have finally decided that they've had enough of the endless relentless Alinaky style cultural warfare and are now starting to push back with what really matters most, our wallets.
The extreme far left has clearly captured most of corporate America now (the communist "Long March through the institutions"), but ironically may have also overplayed their hand in the process.
Target and AB both decided their ESG score was more important than sales. Even after the hits.
Blackrock’s promised to make them whole.
Sooner or later, these companies are going to have to actually make money for their shareholders or go bankrupt as Blackrock will run out of money, even if it is other people's money, and cannot support them indefinitely.
That's what largesse and bailouts from their allies in government are for.
They haven't overplayed their hand until they actually disassociate themselves from these ESG programs. Right now, their devotion to "stakeholder capitalism," i.e., left-wing cultural control of all aspects of life down to our purchasing choices, means that they feel confident enough that Blackrock, Vanguard, and various financing firms including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, etc. will continue providing them with unlimited lines of credit until they can convince enough normies that taking your kid to have their sexual organs removed is good for their mental well-being.
That's why a "boycott" isn't really what's needed here. You have to exercise total brand rejection and not be a habitual consoooooooooomer of any organization that participates in these programs, while giving your business to those with shitty ESG scores, or simply not spending money at all.
These people are running a Maoist unity-criticism-unity strategy, which is extremely reliant on getting EVERYONE acquiesing to it. The thing is, this type of strategy is dependent on that mass participation to work, and even a relatively small minority absolutely refusing to do so can cause the whole thing to eventually die. That's how a mere 17% of the population refusing to take the Clot Shot resulted in the death of vaccine mandates and digital passports. Now imagine 25% or more of the population simply refusing to spend money on the products and services of woke corporations that rely on mass consumer spending to keep their businesses operational.
Both the Dodgers and Blue Jays were going to suck the ladydick for the following reasons:
--The Dodgers are partially owned by Magic Johnson, whose son EJ is a degenerate flamer
--Toronto is in Canada, which is controlled an identitarian marxist regime and their WEF puppet leader.
Annnnnnd she's gone.
https://zerohedge.com/political/taibbi-meet-new-twitter-same-old-twitter
Following Elon Musk's comments earlier that the cancellation of a deal to show Daily Wire's 'What Is A Woman?' documentary "was a mistake by many people at Twitter," Fortune reports that Twitter's head of trust and safety is no longer in Twitter's internal slack, citing an unidentified person and a screenshot of her deactivated account.
Reuters later reported that Ella Irwin told them that she has resigned from the social media company.
Yeah. This sounds like the virus was still on the company and hasn't been purged yet.
If Musk is genuine on free speech it's going to take him a long time to find all the poison pills hidden at Twitter.
Ben and Jerry's just made an announcement that they were pulling their advertising from Twitter because it's supposedly a "right-wing hellscape" now.
Their real complaint is that Twitter isn't silencing their political opponents.
This is an interesting bit of propaganda floating around. Soave made the same argument a few days ago- that Twitter is now a "Right Leaning" news site- because, in addition to allowing the plethora of leftist and outright marxist antifa agitprop, they allow conservative voices uncensored. This is truly a bizarro take among the blue bubble twitterati. .
It's the left's "repressive tolerance" in action.
Do you mean just another faceless group of Unilever employees pulled their advertising from Twitter or Ben and Jerry pulled their personal advertis... wait, sorry, I don't give a shit either way.
It may actually be a sort of hellscape for them considering they died of cultural irrelevance two decades ago.
Apropos of the discussion on "lowering housing costs" yesterday, this popped up in my local daily:
The paper presents "falling property values" as a problem because the state is unable to get it's succor (even while admitting that in the end, property "value" doesn't determine how much tax you owe).
I wonder if the over thirty thousand "homeless campers" in Seattle contributed to a decrease in property values. Naw! That would not be politically correct ...
Colorado voters ended up getting mind-fucked last year into having the Gallagher Amendment removed, which dealt with development by taxing commercial properties more while keeping residential property taxes low. The dumbshits in the state made the argument that removing Gallagher was necessary to get property tax revenue for “essential government services,” and now people are going to get fucking HAMMERED on their property taxes next year because the average home cost has gone from about $225K to over half a million in the last 15 years.
And it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of blue-voting rubes. Hahaha, eat shit and pay your taxes as the price for civilization, assholes.
Pffft, like they were gonna charge him anyway. Laws only apply to commoners.
All this really does is just give them an excuse other than "he's the president's son" to not charge him. I.e., "If we charged him he would blow up the president's gun control agenda, so we decided not to."
Hell, he was probably smoking crack while filling out the form.
I believe that the criminal courts usually rejected "fiction" as a bona fide confession these days. All you would have to do is testify on your own behalf thusly: "No, I made that whole thing up. I said that in my memoirs for dramatic effect."
That may well stand in court, but doesn't change the facts. It definitely doesn't alter the fact that he dedicated a lot of time to documenting his fictional and for dramatic effect crack habit w/ both video and still imagery. Argue as you like, you are coming across as supporting a double standard based on political clout & wealth more than calling for reasoned justice.
Oh joy, more old man mumbling, unintelligible word salad, and random asides about Corn Pop. I can't wait.
Maybe he'll remain upright this time.
so DOJ takes "ooooh!!! Hunter admitted drugs and tried to buy a gun" and runs with it so then Brandon's lawyers can challenge on 2A grounds and lose ... costing us gun rights.
>>Millennials are moving to the right.
lol Burke on the Horizon!
>>Biden administration "may attempt to expand the welfare state via a definitional trick"
Hey Rocky, watch me pull free shit out of my hat!
Nothing up my sleeve. Presto!
Civil rights jurisprudence is often created by less than moral people challenging prosecution attemps against them.

CNN Interviews Comey on Every Alleged Violation of the Rule of Law . . . Except His Own
https://jonathanturley.org/2023/05/31/cnn-interviews-comey-on-every-alleged-violation-of-the-rule-of-law-except-his-own/
The interview was able to evade any mention of the findings of misconduct and false statements made by Comey. It was impressive how in a target rich environment CNN was still able to hit the small spaces between the scandals.
Cooper cut to the chase and raised the current campaign for president. Comey did not disappoint and declared Trump a “threat to the rule of law.”
I do not object to Comey voicing such an opinion. Comey then went further to declare that the GOP was now a “cult” and held forth on the need to protect the rule of law against political bias.
For those of us who have been long critics of Comey, the interview was almost a mocking parody.
Comey recently celebrated the indictment of Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg despite even some liberal experts denouncing the charges as a political prosecution. The political weaponization of the criminal justice system was declared by Comey to be “a good day.”
The former FBI director, who has been teaching and speaking on government ethics, joined others in celebrating the upcoming arrest of Trump because nothing says “ethical leadership” like a patently political prosecution.
The former FBI director, who has been teaching and speaking on government ethics
BWAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Really?! Well, you know what they say, those who can't do, teach.
Although I imagine a lot of his lectures end up looking a lot like this.

This thing with Hunter is nothing more than a red herring; a narrative setup - if you support Hunter's prosecution, you don't really support the 2A.
The prosecution would not be for possession, it would be for lying. Lying on a federal application is a crime regardless of why you lied. There is no exemption in the law based on the subject of the lie. Even if the ban were found to unconstitutional, the law regarding lying on a federal application will still be valid.
There is no constitutional issue that would prevent Hunter's prosecution. I completely mystified as to why anyone would be fooled into thinking that there is.
There's not much need to be mystified. Choose: ignorance, deliberate incuriousness when researching a topic may lead one to question a preferred narrative, gatekeeping, stupidity. This is nearly a repeat of the baldwin manslaughter charge arguments that took place here. And, no great surprise, many of the same folks are repeating the same stupid bullshit simply saying: this sucks for 'poor' wealthy & influential crack addict Hunter Biden, his lawyers have no reason to lie or misrepresent what occurred, not does he. Hunter is simply a victim (registered trademark) of the evil state, because he lied on a form that says lying on the form is a felony, and anybody who questions this is No True Libertarian and a bigot to boot. Somebody fire up the roberta signal, there must be a self-identified specialist in wild west shows and crack that has something to say on the matter.
Dunno. Consider the following hypothetical:
1. California sends police door-to-door rounding up avowed Catholics and taking them away to labor camps.
2. Some Catholic guy trying to avoid being taken signs an affidavit that he is not a Catholic.
3. Federal Judge, the Honorable Chuck P, rules that California is violating the First Amendment and suspends the program.
4. But Judge Chuck P also rules that nevertheless, Catholic guy committed perjury and therefore he’ll go to prison anyway.
Is that how you'd rule? To me, the question is whether the constitutional violation is grave enough to justify lying to authorities.
2. Some Catholic guy trying to avoid being taken signs an affidavit that he is not a Catholic.
Pretty amazing of you to come up with a hypothetical scenario that so perfectly undermines your assertion. You can ask forgiveness from the Lord, but lying in an affidavit is still perjury. Libertarians shouldn't advocate for arbitrary application of the law.
"To me, the question is whether the constitutional violation is grave enough to justify lying to authorities."
Good luck finding a judge or jury that agrees with you. On the scale of constitutional violations that happen every minute of every day this one wouldn't make my top 100 list.
Ballistics analysis is far less reliable than TV, "experts" and prosecutors would have you believe.
Devil in the grooves: The case against forensic firearms analysis
For more than a century, forensic firearms analysts have been telling juries that they can match a specific bullet to a specific gun, to the exclusion of all other guns. This claimed ability has helped to put tens of thousands of people in prison, and in a nontrivial percentage of those cases, it’s safe to say that ballistics matching was the only evidence linking the accused to the crime.
But as with other forensic specialties collectively known as pattern matching fields, the claim is facing growing scrutiny. Scientists from outside of forensics point out that there’s no scientific basis for much of what firearms analysts say in court. These critics, backed by a growing body of research, make a pretty startling claim — one that could have profound effects on the criminal justice system: We don't actually know if it's possible to match a specific bullet to a specific gun. And even if it is, we don't know if forensic firearms analysts are any good at it.
Ballistics analysis is far less reliable
I really wish I had the freedom to engage in that level of cognitive dissonance. The ability to accept the idea that a whole cadre of government trained "experts" (including the entirety of the FBI) are peddling pseudo-science to maintain their status at arbiters of the truth, while simultaneously holding on to the notion that climate skeptics are conspiracy nuts.
Not all climate sceptics are conspiracy nuts. Some are ignorant, some are merely guilty of motivated reasoning, some are scientifically illiterate - but some automatically assume that if the consequences of X lead to unacceptable results or things they don't like, why, it's a conspiracy.
Scientists with domain specific expertise almost all think that climate change is real. To argue that they don't actually think that and are only saying so for grant money, or power, is indeed conspiracy thinkingf.
Meanwhile, scientists with knowledge of experimental design and related skills have serious doubts over a field which has not been a scientific domain in any real sense.
So no cognitive dissonance.
Now why don't you show some intellectual honesty and just address the Balko article - it would seem you're inclined to agree, but as that might mean you'd agree with me, perhaps you're worried that you'll lose your membership card to some right-wing Reason commenters club I'm unaware of.
Scientists with domain specific expertise almost all think that climate change is real. To argue that they don’t actually think that and are only saying so for grant money, or power, is indeed conspiracy thinkingf.
This is false shrike. Youre pushing a narrative originated by two leftist social scientists by the name of Cook and Oreskes and pushed by Obama into mainstream.
Youre a leftist moron.
I can give you a huge list of scientists including Nobel winners dumdum.
I really wish I had the freedom to engage in that level of cognitive dissonance.
I was even thinking internal to the conversation itself. "Ballistics analysis dating back a century is junk science that can lead to wrongful convictions and judges need to wake up." [Turns around and signs no-knock warrant without checking address, and then FISA warrant on the FBI Agents' good word].
Is it possible for one of you lot to engage without resorting to whataboutism?
People still submit to "lie detectors" a magical voodoo device that rivals Scientology technology.

Yup. Both Skeptic and Skeptical Inquirer have put the boot into lie detectors as well.

The good news is that at least he hasn't fallen down yet today (as far as we know) and he's still alive.
Oh one more thing: you're supposed to salute the Marine and not the reporter you dementia-riddled stupid fuckin' idiot. Whoops sorry, I mean "Mister President", yeah that was what I meant.
Thankfully, his brain is already tapioca so there wasn't anything to damage.
Speaking of definitional tricks, looter prohibitionists use a package-dealing association between poppy products (stupefying depressants) and Boy Biden's coca products (alertness stimulants). Since the same gang--the fallacy goes--put both on a kill-to-prevent list, they must ergo be the same thing: addictive narcotics that cause withdrawal sickness. Coca, along with khat, is doubtless disliked by coffee producers, mainly because all three ARE essentially the same thing. British politicians recently peddled a mess of pull passing a law to ban katha edulis. This may have been more of a way to say "Kenyans Go Home" than an Exorcism of Satanic influence. With mystical collectivists it's hard to tell.
Yes, hank….. it is hard to tell.
"The provision in question—part of the Gun Control Act of 1968—is, frankly, insane, preventing any person "who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance" from buying a gun. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has interpreted this provision to mean that anyone who has used any illegal drug in the past 12 months cannot legally purchase a gun.
So it really does come down to what the meaning of "is" is.
Same as it ever was.
No, Hunter Biden is just a slimeball trying to get out of a felony. That it happens to coincide with the 2nd amendment doesn't change that. Hunter and Joe would be happy to see YOU in Prison for what Hunter did, Presidential nepotism at work here.
Consistently made over $20,000 in income from home with the benefit of smooth playback and sticky online interest. |F330″ I actually made $18,000 with this perfect home income. Everyone can now without a doubt...

Thats what open borders is currently. They spend more time advocating bringing in more people to a welfare state than they do on reducing the welfare state.
Well a stripper taco im sure.
Yes, but it was one of his moms breakfast tacos, and they/them didn’t appreciate it.
Not a bad idea. A blanket and pizza shop with funds paid for by FEMA? Right on the border?
Well, government has free speech too.
Am I Reasoning right?
Fuck off, fuckwit. I don't need talking points. You may well need though - whether provided by One Reich News, zerohedge, your imaginary friend, or your daddy JesseAZ, I don't know.
You may not need them but you use them all the time buddy. Lol.
No, you are not.
He won’t have one. My guess is the general uncited narratives.
If he cites anything it will be bald assertions from a reporter also pushing blind narratives.
I look forward to a post of yours where you're not sucking JesseAZ's syphilitic prick. I fear I will be waiting a very long time.
You've actually made that argument lol.
Lying cracker cunts swarming in packs. Let's call them the Kracker Kunt Klub.
More bullshit from the lying cracker cunt.
You already admit we aren’t democrats dumdum.
But then again you believe in the false party switching post Southern Policy like most democrats.
You can call them anything you like, moron.
I personally don’t give a fuck who you ain’t, you limey fucking cracker.
You used them in this very thread dumdum.
You talk about dick a lot shrike.
He's got some sort of phallic obsession. Maybe Shrike just feels inadequate compared to most here?
He’s going to endlessly sea lion. As usual.
