Support Reason for More Coverage of Gubmint's (Turrible) COVID-19 Policies!
While the press and politicians try to make the virus a political morality play, Reason keeps its head even while screaming at anti-scientific restrictionism.

These past 12 months, like the nine or so months before that, and God only knows how many months and years ahead of us, the dominant issue affecting life, death, and freedom across the globe has been COVID-19 and the public policy response thereof.
From the outset, Reason has been blasting Food and Drug Administration obstructionism to vaccines and tests, opposing both lockdowns and the bogus claims of "science" behind them, and sounding the warning about expanded government powers that have nothing whatsoever to do with curbing this or any other pandemic.
While journalists and politicians continue to sully themselves by politicizing every inch of the policy debate, Reason has kept its rational head, even while letting out a few guttural screams now and then. Our coverage and commentary of COVID-19, as this post will demonstrate, is one of the best reasons to give Reason Foundation some of your hard-earned tax-deductible scratch during our annual fundraising webathon.
Won't you please consider donating to Reason right the heck (look, it's Sunday!) now?
You can break down our COVID-19 coverage into countless subcategories; indeed, webathon posts by Katherine Mangu-Ward and I have already pointed to a half-dozen huge pandemic stories we ran over the past 12 months. But combing through our other top 125 pieces over the past year, I've sorted the coronavirus material into five main modes of coverage. So pop some blood pressure medication, prepare yourself a Suder-cocktail or Gillespie micro-dose, and take this trip down infuriating-memory lane!
1) Insisting on scientific rigor in a politicized public health environment. A Jacob Sullum specialty.
* "A New Study Confirms That Reopening Texas '100 Percent' Had No Discernible Impact on COVID-19 Cases or Deaths: Critics said Gov. Greg Abbott's decision was 'extraordinarily dangerous' and reflected 'Neanderthal thinking,'" by Jacob Sullum.
* "Even If Requiring People Who Have Recovered From COVID-19 To Be Vaccinated Is Legal, That Doesn't Mean It Makes Sense: The failure of legal challenges obscures an ongoing scientific debate," also by Jacob Sullum.
* "An Epidemiologist Confirms That the CDC Director Misrepresented Her Study of Outdoor COVID-19 Transmission: A co-author of the article that Rochelle Walensky cited says outdoor settings probably account for 'substantially less than 1 percent' of infections," by, er, Jacob Sullum.
2) Critiquing pandemic lunges for power. Paging J.D. Tuccille!
* "Biden's Vaccine Mandate Is the Latest Sign of the Presidency Becoming a Monarchy: The presidency has always been inclined to unilateral power—and many Americans like it that way," by J.D. Tuccille.
* "Michigan Moving To Make 'Emergency' COVID-19 Mandates Permanent: Nothing is more permanent than an 'emergency' mandate," by Jarrett Skorup.
* "Americans Are in Full Revolt Against Pandemic Lockdowns: Individually and in organized groups, people are pushing back against lockdown orders," by J.D. Tuccille.
3) Howling about disastrous education policy. I suppose this is where I come in.
* "The Equity Mess: Despite their professed goals, Democrats' pandemic policies have widened disparities between races, classes, and genders," by Matt Welch.
* "CDC's New 'Reopening' Guidance Will Keep Schools Closed in the Fall: This is what you get when you mix 'science' with 'stakeholders,'" by Matt Welch.
* "San Francisco Schools Renamed the Arts Department Because Acronyms Are a Symptom of White Supremacy: 'We are prioritizing antiracist arts instruction in our work,'" by Robby Soave.
4) Looking for the "COVID-19" in COVID-19 policies. Team effort here.
* "Giant New Spending and COVID-19 Relief Bill Also Creates 2 New Museums and a Library, References Dalai Lama Controversy: 'No responsible legislator should vote for such a thing,' said Justin Amash (L–Mich.)," by Robby Soave.
* "Biden's 'Rescue Plan' Will Sic the IRS on Anyone Who Earns $600 in the Gig Economy: What does this have to do with the pandemic? Nothing," by Eric Boehm.
* "Biden's Coronavirus Relief Package Has Almost Nothing to Do With the Coronavirus: The president keeps insisting on the urgency of $1.9 trillion in spending. But much of it would be spent on non-urgent policies unrelated to the pandemic," by Peter Suderman.
5) Miscellaneous outrage. (Literally everyone on staff.)
* "He Wouldn't Wear a Mask on a Bus. One Thing Led to Another, and He Ended Up Dying in Jail.: Given the dangers of jails and prisons, the pettiest of crimes can become death sentences," by Brian Doherty.
* "Until Today, Joe Biden, Jen Psaki, and Rochelle Walensky Were All Publicly Opposed to Federal COVID Vaccine Mandates: 'That's not the role of the federal government.' What happened?" by Robby Soave.
* "Cuomo's New York Is Just Throwing Away Vaccines Rather Than Distributing Them Competently: More than 4,100 people died of COVID-19 yesterday across the country, but some New York medical providers are dumping vaccines instead of putting them in people's arms," by Liz Wolfe.
Is this the kind of COVID-19 coverage you want to see more of? Then please donate to Reason today! You'll be glad you did.

You were 100% for the lockdowns before you were against them.
And frankly, I’m still not convinced most of you you are that much against them. I know P.S.W.B. is super pissed about his kids being kept out of school, but that alone isn’t enough.

"Gubmint's (Turrible) COVID-19 Policies"
I'm really proud of Reason.com for refusing to modify its demand for unlimited, unrestricted immigration — even during a pandemic that has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans.
#OpenTheBordersToHelpCharlesKoch
#CheapLaborAboveAll
According to SleepyJoe, nobody should remain president when so many people die while in office. When will he step down?
FALSE EQUIVALENCE
Covid deaths during Drumpf's term should be blamed on Drumpf.
Covid deaths during Biden's term should be blamed on Drumpf. And DeSantis.
#DefendBidenAtAllCosts
#TrumpLegacy=COVID
Face it, Trump's legacy will always be COVID and massive government spending.
50 years from now it won't be "Twice Impeached President" as much as the Pandemic President. Like Dubya is the 9/11 President.
This was fine as parody. But you are stupid enough to believe it.
50 years from now it won't be "Twice Impeached President"
50 years from now they'll marvel at how somebody could be impeached twice on evidence that completely exonerated him.
Of course they'll do it from caves in a post-Green New Deal, post-Build Back Better apocalyptic landscape, but marvel they will.
Since the Blowjob Impeachment the process has lost its stigma.
Any comment on the star dem witness at impeachment 1 being involved on the Steele dossier?
I tune out fake scandals.
I recall the poster here named 'John' who spent a couple months telling us that Dem Senator Menendez would have to resign over a fake scandal that miraculously was only reported at wingnut.com - not any real news agencies.
Just look at you try to change the subject.
I hope they didn't pay you for that one.
No. You deflect from anything critical of your bosses. You brought up impeachment. The credibility of the witnesses matter, do they not?
So you're saying it was an inappropriate blowjob from a young underling, and not lying under oath, that did him in?
Why does the record of congress say differently?
Legal cover.
So you're insisting he didn't lie under oath?
I have another dubious honor for Drumpf: the President who ruined Afghanistan.
Remember when you spent weeks spamming SLOPPY PULLOUT in an attempt to kill the discussion whenever anyone mentioned Afghanistan? Then one day you flip-flopped and decided we should, in fact, dwell on the humiliating end of that war — because you read on JuanCole.com that it was actually Drumpf's fault? We #LibertariansForBiden should stick with the latter approach from now on.
Facing Economic Collapse, Afghanistan Is Gripped by Starvation
"Nearly four months since the Taliban seized power, Afghanistan is on the brink of a mass starvation that aid groups say threatens to kill a million children this winter — a toll that would dwarf the total number of Afghan civilians estimated to have been killed as a direct result of the war over the past 20 years."
Literally. All. Drumpf's. Fault. He's responsible for starving children just like he was responsible for bodies falling from planes.
#BloodOnDrumpfsTinyHands
#(ButNotOnBidens)
No one cares about Afghanistan now.
Biden quote from six months ago?
Alright, this post was pure Buttplug. It wasn't even parody but straight up copying.
It's also the same argument he uses for the deficit.
Blows my mind that we want to force every single worker in this country to take a vaxx they don't want or don't need and yet there is zero requirement for immigrants streaming across our borders to be vaxxed.
2) Critiquing pandemic lunges for power.
Not opposing. Not criticizing. Critiquing.
"The proper way to lunge for power is with the red wine glass further from the guest than the red wine glass and using one fork for each course from the furthest to the nearest."
Hello
Hi Shane, my name is sarcasmic. I like to party and I hate Trump. Would you like to be friends? I'm a lot cooler than most of the others here because they're all crazy Trumpistas.
Lmfao
Just can't help yourself, can you faggot?
Tulpa found a new screen name.
Don’t your owners expect better material for their money?
Makes me wonder how many email accounts the loser creates every week.
Less than the number of popov vodka bottles you go through.
Reason was not and is not st the forefront of fighting against government overreach against covid. They have pushed massive testing which is used to defend vaccine mandates and lockdowns. They pushed government funding of daily covid tests in Bailey articles. They've virtually ignored the government camps in Australia.
The one good thing they have done is admit lockdowns were probably not advisable, but did so in a pussyfooted way when they should have been fare more forceful with anti lockdown views.
Reason was very late to the party, no doubt = The one good thing they have done is admit lockdowns were probably not advisable. That was a real disappointment.
In order to find out the truth about what they really believe and they do and don't care about, you have to pay attention to their Twitter feeds, because that's where their true unfiltered opinions all go. And the only thing approaching genuine anger I've seen from any of them regarding the lefty big government lockdowns in almost two years is Park Slop Welchie Boy eventually got pissed off about his kids being kept out of school, which is understandable. The rest of it, they've never really given a flying fuck about.
Agreed.
Not much in the way of Ron Bailey links here. Probably better that Reason not draw attention to the science guy who's been sucking Top Man dick for the last 18 months.
Myth - Fundie-Nuts and the religious right formed in the 70s as opposition to abortion legalization.
Truth -
But the abortion myth quickly collapses under historical scrutiny. In fact, it wasn’t until 1979—a full six years after Roe—that evangelical leaders, at the behest of conservative activist Paul Weyrich, seized on abortion not for moral reasons, but as a rallying-cry to deny President Jimmy Carter a second term. Why? Because the anti-abortion crusade was more palatable than the religious right’s real motive: protecting segregated schools. So much for the new abolitionism.
....
One such school, Bob Jones University—a fundamentalist college in Greenville, South Carolina—was especially obdurate. The IRS had sent its first letter to Bob Jones University in November 1970 to ascertain whether or not it discriminated on the basis of race. The school responded defiantly: It did not admit African Americans.
Although Bob Jones Jr., the school’s founder, argued that racial segregation was mandated by the Bible, Falwell and Weyrich quickly sought to shift the grounds of the debate, framing their opposition in terms of religious freedom rather than in defense of racial segregation. For decades, evangelical leaders had boasted that because their educational institutions accepted no federal money (except for, of course, not having to pay taxes) the government could not tell them how to run their shops—whom to hire or not, whom to admit or reject. The Civil Rights Act, however, changed that calculus.
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/05/religious-right-real-origins-107133/
That may be one of the stupidest thing you ever posted. You're getting sucked in by your own gaslighting.
1. Most other Christian groups were furiously against abortion led by the Catholics, but also including the Orthodox and mainline groups like the Lutherans. The Evangelicals were by no way unique on this. Did Bob Jones make the Pope come out against abortion?
2. Evangelicals are not Catholics. There's zero hierarchy, and certainly no Evangelical Pope. At best it's a mob not a herd. Each Evangelical is responsible for their own interpretation of scripture. This is why there are a million denominations with Evangelicals like Jimmy Carter and Bono, or Evangelicals like George W. and Kirk Cameron.
The press called Falwell and Jones "Evangelical Leaders" because they paid to air their own shows, so they were identifiable but that's it.
If Politico had done actual research instead of manufacturing phony attacks on supposed Democratic Party enemies, they'd understand how stupid their proposition is.
Also both the abolitionist and civil rights movements were led by Evangelicals. Who the fuck do you think people like John Brown and Martin Luther King Jr. were? High church Anglicans?
That was covered in the article:
Both before and for several years after Roe, evangelicals were overwhelmingly indifferent to the subject, which they considered a “Catholic issue.” In 1968, for instance, a symposium sponsored by the Christian Medical Society and Christianity Today, the flagship magazine of evangelicalism, refused to characterize abortion as sinful, citing “individual health, family welfare, and social responsibility” as justifications for ending a pregnancy.
When the Roe decision was handed down, W. A. Criswell, the Southern Baptist Convention’s former president and pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas—also one of the most famous fundamentalists of the 20th century—was pleased: ,b>“I have always felt that it was only after a child was born and had a life separate from its mother that it became an individual person,” he said, “and it has always, therefore, seemed to me that what is best for the mother and for the future should be allowed.”
I escaped the Southern Baptist Church at 16 - never to go back. I know these people. You are Canadian.
This is interesting. It doesn’t match up with my personal experience growing up in an evangelical Christian household, but we were part of the Southern California born-again Christian community, who I don’t ever recall exhibiting any racism whatsoever.
Maybe there was way more racism among evangelicals in the American South.
Nothing says bias like assuming all racism is in the south despite all the racial crimes in the north.
Another liberal narrative pushed by Mike.
Good Old Boys is a superb album.
But you prefer good young boys
I know these people.
Did you know Jimmy Carter was Southern Baptist?
Did you know that the Southern Baptists are only one of tens of thousands of very different Evangelical denominations?
I escaped the Southern Baptist Church at 16
"Escaped", lol.
Young Buttplug leapt up from his pew and jumped out of the nearest stained glass window, running across the parking lot to freedom.
There was always an element of juvenile "Fuck you Dad!" to your opinions. I guess we're getting closer to the source.
Dads aren't really shreek's type. And when he says he "escaped" the Southern Baptist Church, what he means is they threw him out after he got caught molesting kids.
Believable.
We will allow it. Any objections?
He wanted to become a Catholic priest. For the binge benefits.
Mother's lament is Canadian? What a scandal
1979? Damn, that was right around the time Donald Trump was recruited as a Russian covert agent, rifght?
Trump got mixed up with the Russian mob when he was laundering money for them at the Taj Mahal Casino well after 1979.
Buttplug actually believes this.
Trump Taj Mahal casino settles U.S. money laundering claims
By Jonathan Stempel
Feb 11 (Reuters) - The parent of Trump Taj Mahal, one of Atlantic City, New Jersey’s struggling casinos, has settled U.S. government charges that it violated federal laws designed to thwart money laundering, court filings show.
Trump Taj Mahal Associates LLC agreed to the assessment of a $10 million civil penalty by the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, according to a proposed consent order filed on Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware.
The penalty will take the form of a general unsecured claim in Trump Taj Mahal’s bankruptcy.
Do you really not know what the word claims means?
And did they actually launder money unwittingly, Plug?
Give me the link so I can Fisk it for you.
Everything you post invariably turns out to be a lie or you misread it. It must be awful being you.
Lmfao. It's not that fun making fun of you when you out-parody the parody.

Still wouldn’t be comparable to what was done to the Jews. The oppression is easily avoided by getting vaccinated; try becoming un-circumcised.
Ok, your comment is more squawking, bird.
Congratulations, you just described COVID since 2 years ago. Speaking of 2 years ago, remember that time when you got banned from Reason.com on your original Sarah Palin's Buttplug sock for posting dark web links to hardcore child pornography?
Yes, it would be a very good thing.
What a pantload! Reason voted for Biden! They wanted this! They love government restrictions! They're in the tank for Democrats! They've never criticized Biden and they're still criticizing Trump! Reason suuuuuuuucks!
did I get that right?
You forgot to call them SJWs. (See example on another thread this morning.)
To be fair, more liberal media outlets did bury some stories about the Biden family leading up to the election. And Reason didn’t write anything about Hunter (although I’m not sure what critics of Reason would expect them to say about it).
Of course, it wasn’t hard at all for anyone to find alternative news sources that covered Hunter’s laptop, etc. extensively.
From a publication that found time to write a thousand words about Dr. Oz's unfitness for public office it seems like a major national story about a presidential candidates crackhead, pedophile, cousin-fucking, bagman son might have been of interest to someone.
No, not at all. Just because the story was banned from circulation on Twitter and Facebook and scrubbed from Google search results doesn't mean it was any more difficult to find than, say, the Steele dossier.
Again, what would Reason have to add to the conversation about Hunter Biden’s escapades?
Lol. Youre just sad and pathetic. Every topic is talked about outside reason. Your assertion here is reason should shut down.
The fact that they didn't cover it means they were complicit in his escapades as well as being part of the conspiracy to hide it from the public. It's proof that Reason is a wing of the Democratic Party. Duh.
Are you guys edging each other with these strawmen?
Evidently, all the swing voters in the country read Reason, and if Reason had covered the Hunter Biden story as aggressively as right-wing media outlets had, it would have swung the election to Trump, even though Hunter Biden wasn't on the ballot.
Still waiting for a response, Lying Jeffy:
https://mobile.twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1465752991827382272
And whenever Reason doesn't cover a topic, or one of us doesn't say something, the geniuses on the comments are able to glean what the other person really thinks, and then rail against it.
It's a textbook strawman, and just like the progressives they hate, conservatives have embraced fallacies as convincing arguments.
You’ve become such a sad self parody.
You know you two trading strawman arguments back and forth just makes you both look like you're flirting right?
look like
*ahem*
If Reason says X, it means that they must be in favor of Y. It is known.
Who has used the term SJW in years? Just the strawman voices in your twos bed?
Yes. You got out your child like strawman crying quickly. Should we expect dozens more today?
You've copy-pasted the same thing in literally every comment section on every Reason.com article since roughly October of 2020. You were mentally retarded long before you became a self-confessed homeless drug addict and alcoholic, but for christ's sake, even you should have it down by now.
You've copy-pasted the same thing in literally every comment section on every Reason.com
Yet he swears he's not Sqrlsy, despite the exact same modus operandi.
The drunken retard accidentally posted two of his Sqrsly copypastas on his sarcasmic account, denied it happened, then when someone linked him to the posts he claimed he was hacked. Again.
Hi Tulpa!
You sockpuppet spam worse than Tulpa, as your Poobah shitposting spree yesterday proved. So it's pretty gutsy of you to whine about him.
Hopefully they raise enough cash to fix the comments section. The supply chain article isn't taking comments. Here's my take on that article:
I've been assured the supply chain hiccup is temporary and nothing to worry about. It's just a transitory global issue due to the pandemic. Mayor Pete is on it, showing his Presidential bona fides.
I wouldn't think it's anything structural, due to boomers retiring, lockdowns putting people out of work and bailouts keeping them there, or young people preferring to trade crypto and meme stocks and playing video games over actual physical work.
And if it takes a bit longer than expected for the grown-ups now in charge in DC to build everything back better, we should just lower our expectations and not be so materialistic.
I think they may not be encoding the ? in the title in the comment URL.
I came here for the ratio of the comments.
[settles down with a bowl of popcorn]
I feel like someone should be paying for me to read the shit you put out.
Inflation cutting into that $0.50/post?
Paid to post and paid to read, Tony? Isn't that double-dipping?
By the way, has anyone at Reason written one piece yet in opposition to a federal vaccine passport and database system? If so, I have yet to see it.
The onset of "Papiers bitte" isn't as big of a libertarian issue as Hawley being unfair to lefties in a speech to a conservative group.
White Mike will soon show up to tell us it's imaginary, and sarcasmic will follow trying to eat Mike's ass.
I'm still trying to figure out how they think 5l4 weeks of forced government camps is libertarian.

Don't forget that temporary quarantine is exactly the same as mass murder.
If it isnt mass murder, it is apparently okay. Even if you lock up non infected people.
5 weeks*
Even if you lock up non infected people.
And that's the point that destroys their pretension. That so many of the people being locked up don't have Covid and continue to test negative for Covid.
Rather they're people who attended rallies and protests and are being called contacts.
LOL we all lived through your covid reporting -- and it was fucking terrible. It's a major reason you're getting $0 this year.
Another satisfied customer!
Really? What was terrible about Reason’s COVID-19 coverage?
Lulz. Oh wait youre serious.
Hers doing his intern work as best he can.
It has been a lot better lately, but for some time they spend a lot of time worrying about FDA approval of tests and things like that while largely ignoring the authoritarian takeover of pretty much everything.

Is it still the case that all omicron cases so far have been mild? If so, there’s no reason to be ill at ease.

Just gave them ten bucks. Fuck it.
Good for you!
Cripes, I gave way more than that and I'm disgusted but what this rag has become.
I thought you two suckholes would've been far more generous.
How much extra money do you imagine unemployed alcoholics on welfare have lying around?
CNN segment today (seriously, the hospital never turns this shit off): Revisiting Charlottesville, white supremacy, and the white supremacist car attack.
Memory-holed on every MSM network: A couple weeks ago, Black, BLM supporter, Hitler-quoting racist plows through a crowd of people mass murdering literal women and children.
No, the SUV plowed into that crowd.
Tragic, tragic accident.
We obviously need common-sense car control for rogue SUVs.
So it is not "accepted wisdom" on Team Red that the Waukesha SUV driver was absolutely definitely motivated by racial hatred of whitey?
*not = now
That and all of his social media and statements. But why bother with actual knowledge about the event. He doesn't have as many skeletons as that white supremacist Rittenhouse.
Could you imagine if Rittenhouse had written songs about shooting a bunch of people, and had reposted Hitler memes in agreement, and had open anti-black statements on his social media?
Those things must have happened, because the media assured me he was a white supremacist on a shooting rampage killing peaceful BLM protestors.
They had to have happened. Because this actual Waukesha murdered actually did have analogous murderous anti-white content, Hitler memes, and talked about running people over. So being that they are definitely acting in good faith, Im sure Kyle did have those things on his social media for them to jump to calling him a racist white supremacist murdered while calling the Waukesha man an "SUV driver" in a "parade crash"
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10235869/Waukesha-suspect-shared-social-media-posts-promoting-violence-white-people.html
This is very weak sauce for claiming racial hatred was the motive.
"Waukesha SUV driver "
Funny that he is a "driver" and not "murderer" or "domestic terrorist" as would be the narrative if we had a media that wasn't looking to score social justice equity points in even the grossest of ways.
"was absolutely definitely motivated by racial hatred of whitey?"
I dunno you tell me. The guy wrote shitty raps about running people over and killing, specifically, white people. Then he ran over, and killed white people. So it could be a fever dream of the right, or something taken directly from the "SUV driver" as you so euphemistically put it.
This yet another time in recent memory you have shown up unequipped for an argument because rather than doing the basic research, you only came equipped with your "good little commie" talking points. Im starting to get embarrassed for you man.
I dunno you tell me.
Okay, I will. So yes, I do believe that it's the right-wing consensus that the driver was motivated by racial hatred, based on (1) a narrative that BLM itself is deeply racist and so its supporters are also racist, so a belief that this attack was racially motivated confirms this narrative; (2) a narrative that the media is always lying, so if the media doesn't say it was racially motivated then that is proof positive that they are lying and the attack really was racially motivated; and oh yeah (3) some rap song lyrics.
well, it sure wasn't an "accident" that was "caused by an SUV", as several outlets reported.
"Unless a network presents exactly the issues I am interested in with exactly the correct amount of emotional fervor, it means that they are lying liars who hate America!"
You literally dismissed information just above because it wasn't presented on your preferred network.
Well it would help if they presented it at all. But the prompt for this was them STILL COVERING a white guy who drove through a crowd and killed 1 person, 4 years ago.
And this is in the setting of them briefly covering (calling it a "parade crash") the Waukesha murder scene, and changing the subject before the body count even stopped rising.
So ya, I would like a domestic terror attack in which a person mowed down a bunch of innocent people at a fucking Christmas parade the other day to get some coverage. But why do that when we can cover the one from Charlottesville so we can play the "fine people" line a dozen more times and bring up Trump some more.
You do realize that the Charlottesville protest was in the news lately because of the civil trial that just recently ended? Gee maybe that was the reason for CNN bringing it up in the news that you watched. Oh no, that can't be it.
It's not like Charlottesville has been on the CNN BREAKING NEWS chyron for 4 years straight.
So ya, I would like a domestic terror attack in which a person mowed down a bunch of innocent people at a fucking Christmas parade the other day to get some coverage.
They did cover it. You are just disappointed that they didn't cover it in exactly the way that you demand that they do. "If they don't call it a domestic terror attack like all my right-wing news sources keep telling me that it is, it means they hate America!"
And BY THE WAY. I am sympathetic to the idea that there is a double standard in the media. But if you want to prove your case you should come up with something better than an inferred, unproven motive of racial hatred from the Waukesha driver as 'proof' that the media is trying to conceal the REAL RACIAL MOTIVATION for the crime.
Well, if it was a white driver running down some majority black gathering, the media would likely just assume a racist motive as they did with Rittenhouse.
If they want to hold off on assuming any particular motive until there is solid evidence, fine. Just do it consistently and not only when the perpetrator is non-white.
Props to Newsweek for running a dissenting voice:

The propaganda media's answer has been to simply avoid the facts. Much reporting has been inadequate at best and maliciously dishonest and misleading at worst.
The amazing thing is that this was not the work of one or two news outlets. Consider this deafening barrage of headlines:
"After SUV slammed into Wis. Parade and killed 5, driver to be charged with homicide" (The Washington Post, Nov. 22)
"A sixth victim has died after the Waukesha Christmas parade crash, prosecutors say" (CNN, Nov. 23)
"Child is 6th death in Waukesha parade crash; suspect charged" (AP, Nov. 24)
"More than a dozen remain hospitalized after deadly Waukesha parade crash" (CNN, Nov. 25)
The headlines were just the start. News outlets also took to Twitter.
On Nov. 28, CNN asserted that "a car" drove through the parade as though it weren't being driven by a person: "Waukesha will hold a moment of silence today, marking one week since a car drove through a city Christmas parade, killing six people and injuring scores of others."
Similarly, The Washington Post withdrew an absurd tweet that read, "Here's what we know so far on the sequence of events that led to the Waukesha tragedy caused by a SUV." Again, the newspaper suggested this "tragedy"—not mass murder or a massacre—was "caused by a SUV."
Newsweek seems to be doing that a lot lately.
For more Trump derangement and extremely lame bOtH sIDeS bullshit, support Reason. For anti-American immigration scaremongering, support Reason.
Support Reason, because some of the Reason writers haven't finished auditioning to work at CNN or Slate or MSNBC yet.
The New York Times is their ultimate fantasy.
Why read Reason articles then? If all it does is fill you with hate, why bother? Unless you enjoy being enraged.
DON’T CRITICIZE REASON, THEY HAVE FEELINGS TOO YA KNOW!
Why read Reason articles then?
Long before Trump, even before 'The Exodus', people notoriously stopped reading the articles and frequently noted how much better the comments were. Plenty of people who didn't want to see Trump elected any more than Reason did.
For anti-American immigration scaremongering
Being pro-immigration *is* pro-American.
Interesting article about radicalization of vets.
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2021/12/03/how-extremist-groups-target-veterans-and-what-can-be-done-about-it/
This is an underappreciated danger, IMO. To the extent that vets tend to lean to the right, the rhetoric nowadays that emanates from right-wing media just begs for extremist behavior.
From the article:
“In our lab, we define extremism as a way of thinking that positions the world unto us versus them, such that the other group poses an existential threat to your own group, that typically has to be thwarted with violence, and then often with the framing of it being heroic violence to save your people, right,” Miller-Idriss said Friday. “So it’s not just an all-negative thing, but often framed in positive ways that are about saving your people.”
So how many Reason commenters would be labeled as "extremist" by this definition?
So how many Reason commenters would be labeled as "extremist" by this definition?
It doesn't say who 'them', 'other group', 'own group', or 'your people' is. How many service men and women of any army anywhere in the world, past and present, left, right, and center
wouldcould be labeled as "extremist" by this definition?Brian "Radical Extremist" Sicknick
Michael "Violent Extremist" Byrd
You just bitched about your enemies on the right above shitface.
Oh, and tell is about jan 6th, the unvaccinated, etc dumbshit.
Yeah, leftists are concerned that the predominantly right wing conservatives who joined the military may actually take their oaths to defend the Constitution of the United States of America seriously, which would be an impediment to stuffing it in a paper shredder and ruling by 50% plus 1 majorities.
Hence the need to call them "extremists", and to try to enlist non-traditional recruits, or to bring back the draft. Hard to have your own Praetorian Guard if you can't trust 90% of the armed forces to go along with your plans.
Or, normal people - not merely "leftists" - are concerned that vets are being sold a false bill of goods of what constitutes "defending the Constitution" by slimy demagogues, and don't really want armed vigilantes going around with their own idea of "saving America" in mind.
Looks like we know where Nardz was this weekend.
