César Báez is a Venezuelan-born lawyer, reporter, and producer at Reason magazine covering Latin America.
He served as communications coordinator for Students for Liberty Latin America, interned at the Cato Institute, and was a program associate at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, where he was also a Don Lavoie fellow.
As a student leader in Venezuela, he organized conferences and debates promoting free speech in Venezuelan universities and was elected to his university's governing body as a student representative. He now serves on the board of advisers of the Libertarian Movement of Venezuela.
His work decoding voting tally sheets from the 2024 presidential election was instrumental in proving electoral fraud by the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolás Maduro. The social media collective Politiks publishes his Spanish-language commentary on Venezuelan politics.
Maduro's second-in-command, Diosdado Cabello, has attacked Báez's work on national television.
Based in Washington, D.C., Báez fled Venezuela in 2022.
