On The Independents: Rep. Thomas Massie on the House Leadership Fight, Peter Suderman on the Gas Tax, Huckabee 2016, #BlackBrunchMatters, NYPD Blue, Harshing Sleds, the Bullet Train to Madera, and After-show

The last time show-fave Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was on The Independents, well, it was pretty funny; watch here. Tonight the libertarian-leaning Republican is on to talk about the GOP backbench's semi-annual fit of petulance against House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who Massie has called "undemocratic" and "irresponsible."

Speaking of libertarian dreamboats, beloved Senior Editor Peter Suderman will be on to speak of the fresh hell that is some members of the new GOP majority talking about raising gas taxes.

The Party Panel tonight (Ellis Henican of Newsday, Ellison Barber of the Washington Free Beacon) will talk about how the nation survived the horror of yesterday's #BlackBrunch protests, plus the latest NYPD revolt against the mayor, the eternal return of Mike Huckabee, and a little Harvardfreude.

Other topics on the show include regulations against sledding, California's groundbreaking of the $68 billion high-speed train from Fresno to Madera, and of course whatever nonsense bubbles up on the online-only aftershow, at foxbusiness.com/independents.

Protests like this are just a way to jack off in public to the cheers of the already-convinced, without caring about the response of people who are on the fence.

"Protests like this are just a way to jack off in public to the cheers of the already-convinced, without caring about the response of people who are on the fence."

        Exactly.

They don't give a fuck about appealing to people who are 'undecided' or trying to get more people to join their cause. they're just taking to the already-converted and basking in their own moral superiority.

Yoo-hoo, remember those Oklahoma legislators who support Colorado's 10th Amendment power to legalize dope?

I looked up three of them, and they're no-kidding SoCons, thus providing evidence for my thesis that there are lots of SoCons in the limited-government camp. And they're in the limited-government camp even when it comes to teh marihuana!

thus providing evidence for my thesis that there are lots of SoCons in the limited-government camp.

An extremely tiny iota of evidence. No Eddie, real libertarians are not interested in jumping in bed with the people who think gays will ruin America's military or that unauthorized immigrants will doom us all. You're not one of us.

      4. Bill Dalasio   10 years ago

This is just silly. If socons are willing to make common cause with libertarians, why would libertarians shy away from the opportunity (other than, of course, pointless posturing)? If your position is that you want people to be free, other than to live in accord with traditional values, someone isn't a libertarian here. And it isn't G.K.C.

        1. Redmanfms   10 years ago

Cyto is a psychopathic warmonger who wants the United States military to lay waste to wherever and thinks toddlers aren't humans.

Why people still assume he's a libertarian is beyond me.

John and SIV are more libertarian than Cytotoxic.

          1. Cytotoxic   10 years ago

Redmanfms is a retard and a typical peacenazi who can't actually attack my real positions, so he invents bogeymen.

Why people still assume he's a libertarian is beyond me.

            That's because you're a peacenazi retard.

If socons are willing to make common cause with libertarians, why would libertarians shy away from the opportunity (other than, of course, pointless posturing)?

I'm willing to take their help where our interests come together. I am not interested in 'working with them'. These people are not pro-freedom. Their priorities are 'freak out over Mexicans and butt sex first, balance the budget never'. They just aren't useful.

The Independents Attire Review, 05 January 2015

    Fair Deal-Edition

    - Kennedy: Maroon has a booby-enlarging effect for Kennedy. Maybe its just an illusion created by shadows, sort of like the abdominal muscles in the movie 300. We like Maroon for ties but on women it makes us think of High School guidance counselors and other generally un-sexy things.

    - Matt: Interesting; light-grey suit #2 with a subdued light blue tie. We were positively impressed with the shiny grey tie he had on last week, but this improves upon that significantly. Our new favorite! Still waiting on purple.

(*I confess = light grey suits are my favorite and i'm a sucker for anything that isn't too garish or funky)

    - Kmele: Charcoal blazer with a subtle, navy blue knit tie. Also *very* nice. Would be pretty dope with jeans even. The pocket square looks strangely large and maybe needs a little extra-deep tuck.

We give the win to Welch, who seems to be more-on-than-off lately, and is almost making us pine for the days when he would fail spectacularly at least once a week. Perhaps we will need to abuse the party panelists more often.

    Labai A?i?

No one dresses more gaudily and low-brow than sports commentators (*magicians, maybe)

However = Americans tend to go "chalkstripes, 3 piece, weird patterns", but fairly staid on shirts and ties.

Whereas, Brits (soccer) Aussies (rugby, etc), Canadians (hockey), all seem to have a 'similar but different' issue

...where they all wear the same conservative *suits*...but then wear the most godawful shirts and ties you could imagine. weird colored stripes and paisleys.

    Footnote to Footnote =

    - Suderman: Leaves the grey 'mad men' suit at home, and brings back his "Shoulderless" blue blazer with the giant hole in the lapel.... its not as bad as things used to be - the shirt looks great and the tie is a nice match - but his Stud-Factor has dropped significantly from his prior recent appearances.
