Tonight's live episode of The Independents (Fox Business Network, 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT, with re-airs three hours later) begins with the policy and politics of the fast-spreading Ebola virus, last seen taking down a nurse in Texas, and possibly driving another medical worker to the hospital in Kansas City. Party Panelists Julie Roginsky (Fox News contributor) and Kayleigh McEnany (conservative commentator) will talk about the government's proper role in combating infectious disease, the inevitable czar wars, and whether budget cuts are killing people. Later in the program, to lighten the mood, the two will talk about all the recent battleground gains made by ISIS.

Libertarian Party nominee Amanda Swafford, currently polling at around 4 percent in the neck-and-neck race for a Senate seat in Georgia, will be on to talk about her candidacy. Former LP presidential nominee Gary Johnson will also show up to address the perennial "spoiler" debate as we hurtle toward another tight election day. Country music DJ Bobby Bones will assess the New Jersey high school football hazing/assault story, because why not. And Kennedy hits the streets of New York, looking for wisdom about Columbus Day.

Online-only aftershow begins at foxbusiness.com/independents just after 10. Follow The Independents on Facebook at facebook.com/IndependentsFBN, follow on Twitter @ independentsFBN, and click on this page for more video of past segments.

We're all going to die of Ebola any day now and still I can't get a Moynihan.

    Quick travel plug/beg:

I'll be in NYC 10/18 to 10/28. I'll be at a conference during the days until Wed, but free most evenings and then running around Friday until I fly home on Tuesday.

I don't know if NYers grab beer with internet acquaintences or if that's too west coast/gauche, but I'd be down to meet up.

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

      That's one long conference.

We're actually getting in for it Sunday morning and it ends Wednesday. I just tack vacations to the end of these things. Thursday/Friday I'm up near Rochester to visit family.

My neighbor goes to Rochester every month for work.

    2. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

Oh, the beg portion of it was for suggestions of things to do. I'm tired and dealing with mal de debarquement, so I'm not very focused, or apparently able to spell acquaintances.

The gall of these global warming phrenologist amazes me.

    3. Suthenboy   11 years ago

I thought the polar icecaps were melting away because of global warming? I thought the collapse of the Antarctic ice shelf had already started and there was nothing we could do to stop it? I thought a billion people were supposed to have died by now from the effects of global warming? I thought the ocean levels were to be 60-300 feet higher by now? I thought the entire southeastern US was going to turn into a desert by 2010?

Sure there is a consensus on global warming, now all they have to do is to get the climate on board with it.

      1. 2ndClassProle   11 years ago

Repent now, for the end is near. Gaia gonna getcha!!

      2. Hyperion   11 years ago

I'm still waiting to see some data on sea level rise. Where is it? Exactly how much has the oceans risen in the past decade? Why do we never hear about this? We always hear that the ocean rise is going to doom us, but why do we never hear about how much it is rising?

    I'll expect the following:

    1. Sure, we could shut down travel from affected countries, but...diversity! It's obvious the benefits of the multicultural enrichment that Black African countries provide is worth any risk.

    2. No ground troops necessary, we can win this with air power alone.

    3. The familiar claim that Libertarian candidates take the same amount of votes away from Democrats as from Republicans. As usual, no evidence will be provided.

  8. Hyperion   11 years ago

    1. Yes, you are right. Black Africans have already provided their most worth by picking our cotton.

    2. Boots on the ground, we need boots on the ground!

    3. You forgot to provide your evidence to the contrary, I'm sure that wasn't intentional and that you'll be posting it right now.

A far right-wing party takes more votes from a right-wing party than a left wing party. I thought that was "common sense."

          3. Paul.   11 years ago

How does one even define right-wing or left-wing?

In my short lifetime, Right Wing went from nationalistic reactionaries who considered anti-government attitudes to be the exclusive realm of hippie agitators and varios ne'r-do-wells whose distrust of authority was proof of their suspect morality.

Now those people who distrust authority, are skeptical of the drug war, believe the government should stay out of our relationships- be they business, personal/sex lives-- wish to roll back the War on drugs, are distrustful of constant foreign adventurism and interventions, and don't believe we should nor have a moral right to 'civilize' the rest of the world-- we're now the right wing.

You know why Columbus day isn't a bigger deal in this country? Because nobody had the foresight to make it into a drinking holiday like St. Patrick's day.

A guy discovers the new world, and nobody gives a shit, but another guy chases all the snakes out of Ireland, and his holiday becomes a big deal because we can all drink Guinness and Jamesson's.

    Gun Show report

So I went the gun show on Saturday. I got my hand stamped for re-entry- The stamp was a 45. I didn't even know they made gun hand stamps. I saw a bunch of fat cops sitting around and not paying attention. I wandered around until this caught my eye. $590 later, it was mine.

I'm can't shoot it very accurately yet, but it sure is fun to practice. Plus it has no problem with cheap steel ammo. Yay!

    Zastava- Built Serb Tough

    1. gaijin   11 years ago

That gun looks like it could shoot itself!

      Then again, don't they all
      /grabber

      1. BardMetal   11 years ago

There is just something about an east block designed gun that just drives the gun grabbers crazy. It's like red shellac makes guns more evil or something.

        1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

I am sorely tempted to shoot it while dressed like this:

          http://platedlizard.blogspot.c.....alive.html

I bet that would turn heads.

          1. gaijin   11 years ago

            Do it!

          2. BardMetal   11 years ago

I think a true progressive would be torn between you having a gun on one hand, and you being dressed as a poor oppressed minority from the Religion of Peace.

You would scare them more if you wore a trucker's hat, and a Nascar t-shirt.

            1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

Eh, I'm in Texas. Not many progs at the gun club.

    2. Suthenboy   11 years ago

You will never be able to shoot it accurately. It isn't made for that. Get some silhouette targets.

Practice making three shot bursts. Make your first shot hit the ground about ten feet in front of the target. If the angle is low enough it should bounce up to the target about waist level. The second should hit about knee/crotch level and the last upper chest/face level.

That is what it is made for.

      1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

I recall advice given to German machine gunners: aim between the legs and let the barrel climb.

So far, I've done my best by ignoring the sights and shooting from the hip.

        1. Suthenboy   11 years ago

"I recall advice given to German machine gunners: aim between the legs and let the barrel climb."

That is it alright. The Krauts had shmeissers in 9mm so they didn't climb as fast as yours. The rest had mounted guns....same thing.

Yours is a lot more firepower than a shmeisser.

      2. PapayaSF   11 years ago

Are you kidding? It's actually good shooting advice to count on ricochets hitting anything?

        1. Suthenboy   11 years ago

I am not kidding. Shooting full autos or fast bursts from semi-autos like that one....yeah. Start at the feet and draw a line up. You aren't really counting on the ricochet hitting the target, but you have a good chance of it. If you start aiming at the chest you might get one shot in but the majority will fly over the target.

Open bolts are a little different. On the first shot the bolt flying forward will push the muzzle down a bit so aim mid torso. The subsequent shots will raise the muzzle back up.

Personally I prefer accuracy with a lever or a semi auto....aim carefully and put every shot on target. It takes a lot of practice for fast target acquisition.

          1. PapayaSF   11 years ago

I do remember hearing that Thompson submachine gun users were taught to aim low and to the left, and expect the recoil to move the shots up and to the right. I believe it, having fired 50 rounds with one in Las Vegas. (Where I was pleasantly surprised to find Machine Guns Vegas.)

    3. Warty   11 years ago

$590? Jesus, AKs have gotten expensive. Get an air rifle and/or .22 to practice shooting fundamentals and save that Wolf ammo for fun stuff like shooting steel.

      1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

Eh, a brand new one costs over $1000:

        http://www.gandermountain.com/.....963&r=view

OK, that is 7.62x39, but more or less the same.

I have a .22, but I've had a hard time finding ammo. Steel ammo is cheap enough. Plus it can also shoot 5.56.

Figuring out how to shoot a new gun well is part of the fun for me.

    4. Warty   11 years ago

And really, get the SBR paperwork together and put a stock on that thing so it starts being a weapon and stops being a toy.

    5. Paul.   11 years ago

It looks awfully small. And I just cut and pasted it into PAINT. It didn't cost me $590. I think you got taken!

      1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

Eh, the lowest I've seen online is $479. The $590 I paid includes $55 of tax, so I don't feel to bad.

        Money is for spending.

and just who do you think causes global warming, hmmmm?!

        1. gaijin   11 years ago

crap. I should know better than to try the layup on a FoE post. NOthing but defeat lies there.

          1. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

It really is your own fault.

      3. Hyperion   11 years ago

        Global warming causes everything.

        1. Suthenboy   11 years ago

Except for those things which are evidence for it, which is everything.

Everything causes global warming and at the same time is evidence for it.

        2. Paul.   11 years ago

I thought everything caused global warming.

The actually really scary part about that is that today we actually have the technology to genetically engineer deadly viruses. In an extreme conspiracy type situation, a government could actually engineer a virus that would wipe out most of humanity while having the only antidote for it. Considering how truly evil governments are, I don't think it is totally out of the question they would do something like that, especially considering that many so called 'elite' academics actually recommend something like that.

I am a total tech advocate and don't think that anything should ever be done to restrain technology, but we are living in dangerous times right now, and we'll probably be lucky if we survive it considering the absolute evil that is in control of most of the worlds governments.

Did you watch Walking Dead season opener last night or something?

        1. Hyperion   11 years ago

No. Was it good? Zombies are way overdone.

          1. gaijin   11 years ago

Without SPOILING MUCH, it was exciting. I expect it to settle into the usual season long drag, but as a continuation of last season's ending, it worked well for me. The zombies seem to have become more like story 'furniture'. There was a brief reference to 'the cure' that was somewhat related to your comment.

          2. Agammamon   11 years ago

Of course it wasn't *good*, its the walking dead.

      2. NotAnotherSkippy   11 years ago

Why engineer when you've already got smallpox?

        1. Hyperion   11 years ago

Smallpox is so like last millenia, dude.

          1. NotAnotherSkippy   11 years ago

            Oldie but goody.

        2. PapayaSF   11 years ago

Duh, because they want one to kill everyone but [white people | Jews | yourchoicehere].

      3. Tejicano   11 years ago

There's a rather good argument that SARS was a bio experiment by the PRC which got leaked - probably unintentionally. Hard to explain why it only hit people with Han Chinese genetics.

        1. Agammamon   11 years ago

Uh, it *didn't* only hit the Han.

And it would be hard to explain why the Chinese would develop a weapon to only hit the Han who make up 90%+ of the population of mainland China and Taiwan.

  25. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

There's no way that ad works on any who wasn't already voting Democrat.

Welch's jacket looks like it has a hidden picture that will appear if you look at it from the right angle. It's practically flashing at me.

    1. gaijin   11 years ago

IS it telling you to kills someone?

      1. Hyperion   11 years ago

It's telling you to buy a gun. Then the gun wakes you up in the middle of the night and instructs you to kill people.

Yeah, he's mentioned on Twitter that it's compromised and you shouldn't proceed to it.

    2. Paul.   11 years ago

I believe I alerted Mr. Welch to that like over a year ago.

I now believe its a ruse by the Illuminati.

  46. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Kennedy isn't interrupting. This would be one of those times she could start flapping her gums legit.

  54. Derpetologist   11 years ago

I learned recently that foreign cattle are quarantined for 21 days before being allowed in the US. This prevented hoof and mouth disease from reaching the US.

If only there was some other disease this precaution would be useful for...

And I bet you'd keep them in the holds of ships. You're the reanimated corpse of Columbus, aren't you?

      1. Agammamon   11 years ago

Naw man - we all use ISO containers now. Pack 'em in the ISO's and you can airlift 'em, train 'em, even truck 'em to places best suited to concentrate them.

  56. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

I enjoy watching Welch ignore Kennedy when she pointlessly interrupts him.

  57. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Maybe if you didn't wear a t-shirt on national tv. Well, as close as Fox Biz gets.
