Suspected Mass Shooter Elliot Rodger's Final Video is Chilling, Deeply Disturbed

|

Above is the final video of suspected mass shooter Elliot Rodger, believed to be the gunman behind the deaths of six people (seven, inlcuding himself) at University of California, Santa Barbara.

It is disturbing in the extreme. The Washington Post has a transcript, which reads like a parody of a male supremacist screed from generations ago:

Girls, all I have ever wanted was to love you and to be loved by you. I wanted a girlfriend, I wanted sex, I wanted love, affection, adoration. You think I am unworthy of it. That is a crime that can never be forgiven. If I can't have you, girls, I will destroy you. You denied me a happy life, and in turn I will deny all of you life. It is only fair. I hate all of you. Humanity is a disgusting, wretched, depraved species. If I had it in my power, I would stop at nothing to reduce every single one of you to mountains of skulls, rivers of blood. You deserve to be annihilated. I will give that to you. You never showed me any mercy, so I will show you none. You forced me to suffer all my life, now I will make all of you suffer.

Whole thing here.

    1. Who are you?!

      1. Guns don’t kill people; girls who won’t put out do.

        1. “Guns don’t kill people. Husbands who come home from work early kill people.”
          – Larry the Cable Guy

          1. That was a classic from him. I loved it.

        2. Guys who know girls don’t have a gun with which to defend themselves kill people.

      2. Next article on HuffPo: Slut-shaming Libertarian Blames Victims of Gun Violence

        1. If only he had trigger warnings to steer him away from misogynist rape culture this never would have happened.

        2. Get your own sock!

        3. And I felt so clever with this name too.

    2. This kid could have been a great film maker, which would have solved his dating problem too.

      1. We’ve all been wondering where he went.

        STEVE SMITH, RIP

  1. I wish he could suffer some more. Pathetic.

    1. That horrible, forced, fake laugh thing he kept doing, like an idiot child playing at being a movie villain (or video game villain). Such a contemptible little turd.

      1. No kidding…his pretension makes me want to punch him in the face. No wonder nobody would fuck him.

      2. That horrible, forced, fake laugh thing he kept doing, like an idiot child playing at being a movie villain (or video game villain). Such a contemptible little turd

I saw the video last night and I kept gritting my teeth whenever he did that.

  2. “All those girls that I have desired so much, they all rejected me and looked down on me as an inferior man .?.?. while they throw themselves at these obnoxious brutes. I will take great pleasure in slaughtering all of you. You will finally see that I am, in truth, the superior one. The true alpha male.

WTF. You guys who said he sounded like a PUA were right. But I think this loser missed his true calling. He should have been a cop.

    1. He would have been perfect.

      1. I hardly doubt it.

        Number of dogs killed: 0

  3. You denied me a happy life

    YOU

    OWE

    ME.

It’s too bad he didn’t just wrap himself in chains and jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.

    1. “YOU

      OWE

      ME.”

University at Santa Barbara. Infested with Progtards and festering with entitlement mentality.

Is it any wonder this little freak thought this way? I am not laying the blame on anyone but Rodgers, but I can’t help but think of the possibility that the environment nudged him a bit in that direction.

      1. Nope. Gotta lay it all at his feet. Otherwise, you’re in the same boat as people who blame violent video games, heavy metal, comic books, or the boogeyman de jour.

        1. These women wouldn’t have sex with him. Clearly, their claim to self-ownership and freedom of exchange with the people they did want to have sex with has produced externalities. If we don’t want people who can’t get laid going on murder sprees, then we must regulate.

          1. So this proves the need for more gun control? Or more “free” mental health care? No-no-no, it proves the need for more “freedom from sexual want”, or, the right to demand your fair share of free sex from the pretty passers-by. Had “freedom from sexual want” been enforced, all these people would still be with us. As I put on my tin-foil hat, I foresee a future USA where you will have the right to have intercourse (social and/or sexual) with any passer-by that you demand it from, except, of course, the “public servants” who are too busy enforcing your rights, to have intercourse with you. AKA, they are too busy fucking with you, to let you fuck them! And we will have to sneak, under cover of darkness or fog or smog, from house to house, to have any kind of voluntary social or sexual intercourse, for fear of having “freedom” foisted upon us, if we walk about openly? Or maybe we put on a REALLY ugly, slime-dripping disguise, and take out chances? ? This LOVERLY idea brought to you for FREE by the Church of Scienfoology. 1. It proves the need for legalized prostitution.

              1. Yup.

Although to be honest, I could see prostitutes turning this kid down too. He seems like a genuine creep…and hookers have quite a bit of experience spotting those.

                1. I don’t think it would be effective interdiction. This kid didn’t want to laid as much as he wanted women to want to sleep with him. His narcissism shines through in all his social media, vlogs, and written manifestos. He sought outside validation of his own internal feelings of superiority; sex was merely a vehicle through which he sought to gain that validation.

                  1. “His narcissism shines through in all his social media, bogs, and written manifestos.” ? Amen, spot on! I put an industrial-strength clothespin on my nose and watched a few minutes of his video, and his vanity-pride-arrogance-narcissism is absolutely plain and un-varnished. It is next to impossible to get others to love us if we “love” ourselves so much that we are absolutely incapable of any self-critical thoughts.

                2. And I understand that hookers don’t even say “No thank you,” like sorority girls…

              2. I imagine that is de facto legal in LA. He didn’t just want sex, he wanted acclaim.

            2. So this proves the need for more gun control?

No, it proves the need for more knife control. No one, but no one has answered the central question: Was the knife he murdered the three people with purchased legally? And has anyone gotten a reaction from Wustof?

              1. No way, the Knife Rights Association has silenced the knife manufacturers and owns Congress.

                /amsoc

      2. Suthenboy —

Have any mass shootings like this (angry, entitled white guy) ever happened in the south? I can’t think of any.

And they are starting to blame the NRA for this tragedy now.

        1. http://www.motherjones.com/pol…..otings-map

Apparently there’s a map of locations of mass shootings.

          1. So apparently living in California makes you homicidal.

            1. And apparently being rejected by women makes you homicidal.

              1. I thought that it just made you homo.

                1. I thought that it just made you homo.

No, being rejected by the same sex would make one a ‘homo’.

Or wait, yours was a gag comment! BRAVO!

          2. Interesting map. I have to give MoJo credit for their work. It looks complete and well-documented.

I find it interesting that as I go through each one, the number of people killed most often hovers between 5 and 7.

I don’t have any conclusion or deeper thoughts about that, but 5-7 victims seems to be about the limit before the shooter kills himself, is killed, or is stopped.

The Luby’s massacre stands out as having twenty four victims. Twenty four.

And according to the woman who survived it and had the TX conceal carry laws loosened, he was shooting very slowly, and methodically. It was a bunch of unarmed people, cowering on the floor.

            Which enrages me.

          3. Compared to the list of states with the highest proportion of gun ownership

            http://www.thedailybeast.com/a…..-guns.html

you are far safer in states with lots of guns, apparently

      3. The language is eerily similar to progressive lingo.

        1. I thought the same– incessant bellyaching about “unfairness” & “injustice”.

      4. “University at Santa Barbara. Infested with Progtards and festering with entitlement mentality.”

        Like Matt Welch?

  4. Yay. Another maniac, another assault rifle.

    Vhat a country! U.S.A., U.S.A.!

    1. He was one of yours, retard. A good democrat.

      1. amsoc is, of course, too stupid to understand the difference between a handgun and an assault rifle.

Here ya go amsoc; handguns allow you to shoot people with a different political philosophy than your own in the back of the had one-handed whereas assault rifles require you to use both hands but you can really mow down some reactionary elements with one.

    2. I was hoping he was you.

    3. There was no rifle.

      Vhat a country!

Yeah, what is up with Belgium, anyway? This wouldn’t have happened if they had strict gun control.

      1. I say 10 guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in every maniac’s pot.

        1. I say 10 guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in every maniac’s pot.

That’s why you shouldn’t be allowed to own firearms. Prior signs of mental illness: Yes

        2. Hundreds of rounds? Dear boy, you’re going to need millions to achieve the results you’re looking for.

    4. american socialist would appear so much wiser if american socialist did not have access to a keyboard.

There was no assault rifle you idiot. Even if there was, in what way would that make a difference? This is the equivalent of blaming a particular model car for a hit and run accident.

      1. Or in this case, a model of car that was not even involved in the hit and run.

You name yourself after a failed ideology, so I suppose I shouldn’t expect much in the way of critical thinking from you.

      2. To some people guns represent a form of black magic.

        1. That’s racist!

      3. Not only was there no assault rifle, it sounds like the goblin had several handguns. If I had to guess, that would be to get around Kalifornia’s ridiculous magazine limitations.

    5. he didn’t use an assault rifle. He used a California Legal handgun. And he only killed 3 with the gun. He also killed another 3 with a knife.

Never mind the fact that he was just carrying out liberal ideology. Violently enforce your sense of “fairness” or “justice.”

    6. Uh…what assault rifle? I thought he had a handgun? Wow. An “american socialist” used to be someone like Eugene Debs or Norman Thomas. Smart, but severely misguided, especially in the area of economics.

Now an american socialist is a dumb ass who can’t read a news story and considers anti-US snark to be an argument.

No wonder you guys are even further down the political ladder than libertarians.

I wonder: what do you say when massacres occur in places like Russia, Australia, Norway, or Britain (which have gun bans)?

      1. Or even the fact that the last Isla Vista murderer, David Attias (who I actually knew as I lived two floors below him in FT at the time and would bum smokes off of him regularly), managed to kill four using a 1991 Saab (a car I sat in maybe three weeks before his rampage).

      2. I’m just quoting a delightful Robin Williams vehicle about how great it is to live in America as opposed to the big bad USSR. What is so wrong with that?

This country is awesome with its 10,000 homicide deaths, bullshit wars, and half trillion dollar defense budgets.

        1. I hate to be that guy, but… You can always leave if you don’t like it. Hell, move to China or Cuba.

        2. American socialist,

          You’re a clown.

          Greetings from Canada.

          1. As a Toronto resident, I second that sentiment, Rufus. What happens when AmSoc finds out about Kimveer Gill and Marc Lepine, who disprove his “only in America” meme?

            1. Exactly. Among others.

Canada has had its fair share of mass shootings and knife attacks.

          2. Don’t you have a Habs game to attend to?

Speaking of which, I went to the Blackhawks game at Staples last night. Depressing result. Kane needs to get his act together. Hell, outside of Toews, that whole team needs to show some damn desire. The first two lines lasted a total of one minute on the ice because Quenniville saw how lackluster they opened.

            1. I don’t care much for the Habs anymore. Long story.

That being said, I’ll be watching. Loved Therrien going off on the Rangers staff. What the fuck was that crap? He was 100% right to be peeved off.

The Kings are good, Sudden. Real good. If you can make the Hawks work like that it means you can win the cup.

              1. Its a classic matchup of offense vs. defense. The Kings have the best defense in the Western Conference while you could argue that the Blackhawks have the best offense in the conference. I think what’s really happening is that the Kings offense is proving to be getting the better of the Hawks defense thus far. I’m just hoping they turn that around soon.

                1. Toffoli has become one of ‘those’ players.

The Kings offense ain’t too shabby but you’re right.

The Hawks are just facing a team that’s found itself. I love how the Hawks pass the puck around on the PP – smooth.

            2. Kane has been mia. He needs to wake up.

            3. The Kings are exhibit A for “The hottest team in the playoffs can beat the best team”.

They weren’t that great in the regular season despite the record. Jonathan Quick can be scored on.

But they’re on a roll, and LA bandwagon in on out in force.

        3. Yes, it would be so much better with a few million democides rather than a few thousand homocides.

And no bullshit wars – like the Soviets invading Afghanistan or starving their people to ensure they had money to pay for there bombers.

        4. “I’m just quoting a delightful Robin Williams vehicle about how great it is to live in America as opposed to the big bad USSR. What is so wrong with that?”

          It’s always wrong.

    7. The quality of trolling on these boards has declined significantly over the last year. T O N Y and Shreek were deceitful, statist cunts but they at least put some effort into their screeds. American Socialist is just lazy….and very, very dumb.

      1. If only there were another Occupy movement, amsoc would be too busy shitting on police cars and fluffing outside the rape tent to post here.

    8. If only California had strict gun controls laws and there weren’t so many NRA members attending UC-Santa Barbara, this tragedy could have been averted.

      1. I know, right? When I think Santa Barbara, I think a bunch of God-and-guns gay-bashing evangelicals.

    9. Killing people who have things you want is straight out of socialism, chief. You should feel right at home with this guy.

    10. He was a progressive you effen tard, geez you bloody lefties are dumb,
He grew up and was raised in the middle of progutopia,

    11. Another maniac, another assault rifle.

It was a hand gun and a knife.

    12. Go fuck yourself, you sleazy little ghoul.

If any of those girls he attacked had been armed and prepared to defend themselves, he would have been stopped a lot sooner.

      -jcr

  5. From the LA Times article: “The Second Phase will represent my War on Women.”

This is the one time that phrase is appropriate.

Also he expresses disgust at interracial relationships. Hm, racist and sexually frustrated… One could almost believe it was Murkin.

    1. Elliot Rodger is himself the product of an interracial relationship. His father is white from Britain, his mom is Chinese from Malaysia.

      1. That probably explains his tiny dick, the source of all his problems.

        1. But he had the money.

    2. How could an inferior, ugly black boy be able to get a white girl and not me? I am beautiful, and I am half white myself. I am descended from British aristocracy. He is descended from slaves. I deserve it more. I tried not to believe his foul words, but they were already said, and it was hard to erase from my mind. If this is actually true, if this ugly black filth was able to have sex with a blonde white girl at the age of thirteen while I’ve had to suffer virginity all my life, then this just proves how ridiculous the female gender is. They would give themselves to this filthy scum, but they reject ME? The injustice!

Good point. It looks like more of the entitlement mentality- “I am closer to being like her, she should prefer me.”

      1. He describes himself as beautiful ? Hell, no wonder the girls weren’t interested. Sounds like he would have been happier with another guy, not a chick.

What an arrogant, condescending, and vain little racist he was.

  6. I disagree that he sounds like a male supremacist from the old days.

He is a lonely, disturbed individual who wanted love, affection and
became vindictive when he did not get what he wanted.

Nothing male supremacist in wanting a relationship. He did not
say they should be barefoot and pregnant or wait on him, etc.

At least not in the part quoted here.

    1. Sounds like a momma’s boy to me. Never taught how to be a man…add to that 22 years of entitlement and this is the piece of shit you get.

      1. He’s a good looking guy, and his parents are rich (dad was involved in the Hunger Games movie). And he lives in California, where guys with money don’t strike out that much.

Either the guy was a monstrous jerk to women, or he didn’t try hard enough.

Where’s the dad to comfort his son and say something like “I work in movies, and only there can a first time relationship for a person actually last”. What a shame.

    2. Nothing male supremacist in wanting a relationship. He did not
say they should be barefoot and pregnant or wait on him, etc.

He assumed he was entitled not only to a girlfriend but to a hot girlfriend, blamed them for not being attracted to him, and explicitly said ‘I will slaughter every blonde slut I see.’

Yeah, where are people getting this male supremacy thing?

  7. There was no rifle.

Your facts have no place here.

Goody. Some victim’s father is yelling about NO MORE VICTIMS!

“Deadly arsenal of three legally obtained handguns.”

    Confiscate all the GUNZ!!!!! NOW!

    1. Again HAS NO ONE ASKED FOR A REACTION FROM WUSTHOF! When will these knife killings stop?

  8. From a FoxNews aricle:

Earlier Saturday, Shifman issued a statement saying Peter Rodger believed his son was the shooter. The family is staunchly against guns, he added.

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014…..g-rampage/

Is it just me, or is this very unsurprising?

    1. I read that his family notified the police, who interviewed him and decided he was just an average young man with no friends or girl friend. Let him go. Just another example of how the police state is not meant to protect the people.

      1. Barring compelling evidence to the contrary, this was appropriate. Being a creep shouldn’t be enough to get you behind bars, and cops can’t mind read.

        1. Nor should it be enough to confiscate the kid’s guns.

        2. Why should we not have creep control? It is not as is being a creep is a fundamental right, nor is it a suspect classfication.

    2. If his family was so against guns, then how could Elliot Rodger have used them?

  9. “I secretly empathise with that kid. There’s a bunch of people I’d like to shoot, too. BAN GUNZ!”

    1. Nail, meet Hammer.

  10. It is not fair. You girls have never been attracted to me. I don’t know why you girls aren’t attracted me. But I will punish you all for it. It is an injustice, a crime. I don’t know what you don’t see in me. I am the perfect guy, and yet you throw yourselves at all these obnoxious men instead of me ? the supreme gentleman. I will punish all of you for it.

Actually, he sounds like the guy PUAs are right before they decide to become PUAs. Also, the “perfect guy” is probably not one rejection away from becoming a deluded murdering psychopath.

    1. Haha, no shit. I’d definitely call that an imperfection, and rather ungentlemanly to boot.

    2. What’s a PUA?

      Sorry.

      1. Pick Up Artist

In other words, a guy who can’t get laid.

        1. I have always thought of PUAs as suffering from a kind of sociopathy. They see women as prey, as creatures different from themselves that have to be hunted, sneaked up on or tricked.

If you understand that women are people just like yourself and treat them as such you won’t have to ask, they will be throwing you in the sack faster than you can blink. You don’t chase them, you befriend them and then wait for them to offer.

Easy peasy. By just being myself and acting that way I have had my share….and some of everyone else’s too. Heh.

          1. Uh…huh.

          2. Yeah, pretty much. It’s not that complicated: women want sex, men want sex, and both parties would generally prefer that it happen with partners who are reasonably attractive and not annoying. Every single time I’ve either been in a sexual relationship or been offered one, it’s been with women that I was already friendly with. There was never really any effort, just two folks who wanted to touch bits. It’s a little zen, really. It only happens when you stop trying.

I’ve read that Heartiste site. It’s funny, but it’s all total crap. There is however a shred of truth to the alpha v. beta thing, it’s just that people find self-confidence attractive, and people with self-confidence tend to be more charismatic. But that’s it.

        2. Pick Up Artist

In other words, a guy who can’t get laid.

Nah, a PUA is a guy who can only get laid with girls with very low self-esteem, and thinks fucking them is success.

          1. I don’t get why women wanting to have no strings attached sex is considered a good empowering thing, but men doing the same somehow makes them losers. I don’t get the personal offense people take at these guys.

            1. Because you’re on a libertarian message board. If this were a hardcore conservative board, you’d hear how those hookups make her a slut. If you were on a liberal message board, you’d hear how women should cut guys out of the equation entirely. 🙂

Just depends on where you’re having the conversation.

              1. has nothing to do with his post.

“I don’t get the personal offense people take at these guys”.

This is a comment about Reason commentors.

This is just another example of the real ‘war on women’. its a war on gender equality but its not along the simple lines of a zero sum game.

its along the lines of power and responsibility. 1 is being grown for women while the other is being reduced. its not a war of oppression, its a war of moral erosion and infantilization.

                1. I don’t understand what any of you are talking about!!!!

*runs away screaming with hands in air*

      2. Pick-up artist. Google “roissy”

        1. Jesus that place sucks. I suspect the author is full of shit and the comments section make YouTube comments seem sane in comparison.

        2. Those sites are all more or less a weird combination of Penthouse letters and shitthatdidnthappen.

      3. I had not no idea what PUA was before this incident. Now it will be part of the vernacular.

    3. Come, now. Murdering girls out of petty vindictiveness is but a slight blemish on his character.

    4. Actually, he sounds like the guy PUAs are right before they decide to become PUAs. Also, the “perfect guy” is probably not one rejection away from becoming a deluded murdering psychopath.

Apparently he was a poster on a forum called PUAHate. People who end up there are generally those who’ve actually been exposed to the game community’s basic evaluation of the cold realities of the sexual marketplace but have rejected it.

His ramblings sound like he has completely rejected the advice of that community and continues to believe that being a nice guy or gentleman is how you woo pretty women. Like a prog rejecting the basics of economic markets, rejecting the basics of the sexual market will only result in failure.

      1. Being a PUA is about having sex with hot women with low self-esteem. Running game doesn’t work on women who respect themselves.

        1. Sure, but if a woman has low self-esteem, her only value is as a sex object.

Goddamn, why do I have to spell this out to you? I’ve got some forums I think you should check out.

        2. Not at all. Most guys who end up there generally come from a frustration not dissimilar to this kid’s. And most don’t want to become players as much as they just wanna find a gf (probably because they fear that they’ll be unable to replicate any sexual success they manage). Those that become players generally do so when their success with women leads them to see women for what they are (human, hypergamous, etc) as opposed to the pedestalized and pure fair sex that they’re raised to believe.

And the entire reason behind negging, or broadly disqualifying behavior, isn’t because these women have low self-esteem, its because women are the gatekeepers of sex and as such, you need to make them feel as though they’re “dating up” to be with you. Its taking their naturally higher value in the equation and trying to equalize it.

          1. I’ve found I can have sex with women with high self-esteem without even once saying anything remotely negative about them.

            1. There seems to be a misunderstanding of the root of the concept of negging. It’s not about saying negative things or putting a person down or robbing their self-esteem to make them more prone to fornication in order to regain their self-esteem. It’s gained a reputation as “saying negative stuff about a woman to her” because people learning game don’t understand how to use the concepts and will often just be a jerk.

However the conceptual premise behind the neg is to communicate a lack of sexual interest in the target, thereby inducing her to feel that you have a higher overall value than her, as if you were equal or lower value to her you would be seeking her approval as a means to get her attraction. Its a means of negating any perception that you’re sexually interested in the person you “neg”.

Considering most people who get into game do so out of failure to woo pretty ladies, and that is generally due to a lack of social ability, most people when trying to employ a neg just end up saying something outright rude or offensive. They lack the ability to subtly communicate sexual disinterest without pissing their target off with dickish comments.

    5. Exactly. The PUA thing is stupid with all the strategies and technique garbage, but they do get the basic psychology right. Women are attracted to strong, cool personalities, and the extreme ‘nice guys’ are usually hiding some major dysfunction.

  11. Gotta lay it all at his feet. Otherwise, you’re in the same boat as people who blame violent video games, heavy metal, comic books, or the boogeyman de jour.

Unquestionably true. But somebody taught that kid to expect everyone to cater to his every whim.

    1. “…somebody taught that kid to expect everyone to cater to his every whim.”

He saw rejection as equivalent to assault, akin to Prof. Miller-Young’s contention that speech that offends her is equivalent to assault.

These are some self-absorbed people who think their personal feelings are the true gauge of truth and justice.

      1. It wasn’t even rejection; it was imagined rejection. In the video, he says they would have rejected him if he’d ever made an advance.

        1. he says they would have rejected him if he’d ever made an advance.

          THIS

          He was a fucking pussy!

          1. He was a fucking pussy!

I’v heard the old cliche “you are what you do” but we now have a new one:

You are what you want to do, but fail to.

    2. Liberalism. The ideology that says your sense of “fairness” or “justice” should be violently enforced.

  12. It is only fair.

I focused on the PUA thing when talking about this guy yesterday, but I also think there’s a case to be made that he’s also a product of progtard educational practices.

Over the last fifteen years, there’s been an incredible focus in educational circles on taking something that is absolutely normal – the fact that kids separate into groups based on who they like to spend their time with; i.e. the right of free association – and turn it into something to be demonized.

“Exclusion” has been made synonymous with bullying. And it’s not.

So this kid was told in school for twelve years that anyone who excluded him from anything, ever, was an evil bully whose behavior was fundamentally no different from violence or the threat of physical violence.

Well, here’s the kid who took that literally.

STAB STAB STAB BANG BANG BANG THUMP

    “Hey, it’s only fair.”

    1. “… he’s also a product of progtard educational practices.”

Yes, and we have seen this over and over, not just with regards to shootings.

      1. Notice the age of the shooters. There’s your common theme everybody’s ignoring.

        1. Notice the sex of most of them.

    2. And you see the major feminist criticism of PUA-style bullshit tends to revolve around phrasings like “men aren’t entitled to women’s bodies” or something.

But when it comes to other entitlement issues…

      1. Right, but the PUA’s are actually trying to HELP.

        In a demented sense.

If this guy had just asked enough girls out, somebody would have said yes.

That’s why the PUA nonsense appears to work, for many people.

Because the PUA’s give them a “system” to use, but item #1 on the to-do list for that system is “Actually talk to girls”.

Any system – literally ANY system – that gets these guys to talk to enough girls will eventually succeed. Because success is, frankly, the default state.

The point of most sales training is to get people to pick up the fucking phone and make cold calls. You can dress up the training any way you want, but to work training has to condition people to make one cold call after another and not get discouraged and stop. Any training that does that will succeed. This PUA shit is no different.

        1. Yes, they misunderstand that by focusing on the PUA “failures” (or never-tryers). But those “nice guys” just, you know, want their free birth control/preschool/college tuition too.

        2. “If this guy had just asked enough girls out, somebody would have said yes.”

Probably. In my experience, limited though it is, there really is a girl for every guy. The problem is that guys want hot girls and girls want hot guys.

If you’re a socially awkward troll you might want to ask out another socially awkward troll. This guy chose to shoot women from the “hottest” sorority. He didn’t feel entitled to a girlfriend; he felt entitled to a hot girlfriend.

          1. Bingo. There’s only one reason anybody can’t get laid… they don’t know what league they’re in.

This is just another narcissistic millennial gone over-the-top, another product of the self-esteem movement.

  13. BTW I guarantee you this guy never so much as spoke to a girl.

The manifesto excerpts make it sound like he read rejection into every social interaction, so he pre-rejected himself and then blamed others for it.

The guys who squawk the loudest about being rejected all the time are the ones who never so much as ask. You can’t make a sale if you don’t ask for the business – but these guys don’t see it that way. Since women don’t explicitly direct them to ask them out, they declare that rejection and call it a day.

    1. Yep, the manifesto contained quite a bit of “I saw a beautiful woman today. If had spoken to her she would have rejected me. Now I am sad at the rejection.”

      1. Wow, I knew I wanted to read the whole thing.

      2. Wow, I knew I wanted to read the whole thing.

        1. You can say that again.

    2. I figured as much without reading his BS. That’s why I don’t like people trying to blame university culture (or PUA culture, for that matter). This guy was a nutball that was gonna do some crazy shit either way. He had bought the guns over the course of a year. He likely sabotaged himself until he felt justified in doing the act.

    3. BTW I guarantee you this guy never so much as spoke to a girl.

Yeah, this guy was about as far away from a PUA as one can get. I’m not making the connection.

      1. I think the connection people are making is that PUA’s start from the premise that women suck, and shower sexual favors on guys who are assholes.

So the process of learning to be a PUA is sold as the process of becoming the type of asshole women want.

This guy’s story reads like a red pill PUA “before” story. The PUA then pivots to “But then I learned how to be an asshole and neg and shit, and now women fall all over me,” while this guy pivots to, “I will destroy you ALL!”

        1. while this guy pivots to, “I will destroy you ALL!”

He just wanted to make sure his first neg was the ultimate neg.

        2. I think the connection people are making is that PUA’s start from the premise that women suck, and shower sexual favors on guys who are assholes.

Um…women (hot women) DO suck and shower sexual favors on guys who are assholes. That’s not even worth debating. Hot women, date assholes who treat them like shit.

That doesn’t mean you can kill them. That YOU (the general you) are not desirable, or charismatic, or smooth, or any of the other 50 traits women are attracted to, doesn’t mean it’s their fault….IT’S YOURS. Grow a pair and quit blaming others for your inadequacies.

The VAST majority of guys out there are NEVER gonna be “ladies men” who get to date hot women. DEAL!

          1. I am not an asshole, yet hot women do shower me with sexual favors.

But maybe I’m just the exception that proves the rule

      2. This is a better assessment: http://www.forbes.com/sites/ka…..ot-rodger/

        1. That does seem to be a fair and thoughtful analysis, except it doesn’t use the term “batshit” quite enough.

I just hope there is never a reason for anyone to check my internet browsing habits so thoroughly.

        2. And he would never have been able to get the gun that allowed him to murder innocent people.

Oh? Who makes that decision, Ms. Hill? How many hundreds, potentially thousands of struggling autists and therapy patients have their second amendment right suspended to get at the handful of closet psychotics?

It’s a refreshing article otherwise, but that’s a glaring exception.

          1. Also worth noting that this kid was seeing multiple therapists including traditional psychologists and social skills counselors and was prescribed drugs. The evidence of the effectiveness of the SpEd/psych industry seems pretty damning when you look at guys like Lanza, Holmes, and Rodger. All of these guys were incubated in the modern SpEd industry, and now its this same failed discipline that seeks to be the gatekeepers for firearms.

            1. “Also worth noting that this kid was seeing multiple therapists including traditional psychologists and social skills counselors and was prescribed drugs.”

And STILL could legally buy a firearm. Way to go NRA! More concealed permits for psychopaths!

              1. So its the NRA’s fault that Federal, State, and Local law enforcement, and by default your local gun dealer, don’t have access to the medical records of every American citizen? How the fuck does that work?

            2. “Also worth noting that this kid was seeing multiple therapists including traditional psychologists and social skills counselors and was prescribed drugs.”

And STILL could legally buy a firearm. Way to go NRA! More concealed permits for psychopaths!

              1. Maybe you should familiarize yourself with California Law: (1)?Existing law prohibits a person from possessing a firearm or deadly weapon for a period of 6 months whenever he or she communicates to a licensed psychotherapist a serious threat of physical violence against a reasonably identifiable victim or victims. Under existing law, a violation of this provision is a crime.

So tell me, did the NRA bribe all his psychotherapists to NOT report threats? Or did he just not make any. Your comment doesn’t have any merit. You just sling arrows but have no answers.

              2. The NRA bought the handgun, trained him how to use it, bought him some special copkiller bullets and filled up his car beforehand. Amsoc says so!

            3. There have always been individuals who behave monstrously and do terrible things, but there are fewer now per capita than there have ever been. We don’t hear about all the borderline cases who haven’t committed crimes–all the mass shootings and the rapes and murders that didn’t happen–due to intervention, whether that’s medication or just old-school counseling like the priests used to do.

Agreed that the state’s system for helping these kids is a failure because it’s statist and lacks the feedback mechanisms that voluntary exchange provides, but the fact that human beings are assholes sometimes isn’t the fault of professional counselors. The world would be worse without them.

          2. How many hundreds, potentially thousands of struggling autists and therapy patients have their second amendment right suspended to get at the handful of closet psychotics?

How about treating them as threats to humanity?

    4. But shouldn’t a guy be able to just walk up and stick his dick in a girl without having to say anything? I mean, it’s just so unfair.

      1. Some guys just do that. I think there was a four-letter word for it…

        1. Vlad? (the impaler)

        2. UN Peace Keeping Force? No, that’s too long.

          -jcr

    5. Absolutely, I doubt he ever made the slightest effort with women; he was outraged that women didn’t throw themselves at him, the arrogant little wuss.

  14. Law and Order called. It wants its misogynist serial killer back.

At least the bastard is dead. Can’t harm anyone else in that state.

    1. It’s very unfortunate he didn’t just do the world a favor & off himself in the first place, though.

    2. It’s very unfortunate he didn’t just do the world a favor & off himself in the first place, though.

  15. I do wonder, though, what the odds are that this goes all Klebold and we get imitators.

Because I strongly suspect there are guys out there right now watching the video and reading the manifesto and nodding, “That’s RIGHT! That’s totally RIGHT!”

  16. I love the comments that blame this maniac’s failure to take his antipsychotics on liberals. Cray cray…

    1. Fuck him. He could have asked Tony.

    2. Right now some fundamentalist christian conservative is trolling comments on a story, searching for some lefty who blames conservatives for a tragedy. He can then feel all righteous and snarky.

He is your twin brother. The other side of your ridiculous coin.

  17. PUA = Frank T.J. Mackey of Seduce and Destroy fame. (In one of the great character driven films of all time.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n2IVF9a2IA

Tom Cruise played Mackey in the only role I have ever liked him in.

  18. Speaking of misogynist serial killers, I wonder now much overlap there is between this guy and a Ted Bundy. How much of a push takes him the other way, where he goes PUA and murders multiple women quietly over a long period of time?

    1. I don’t think they’re anything alike. Bundy got off on the chase and torture of women. This guy (Roger) didn’t live a real life; he lived in a bad B movie version of a real life, and he was the star. He was a profoundly immature narcissist. Bundy was a straight up psychopath.

    2. Speaking of misogynist serial killers, I wonder now much overlap there is between this guy and a Ted Bundy.

Except that Bundy was an attractive guy that women actually liked who just happened to be an utter sociopath. In Bundy’s case he was far more insane than Rodgers too. Bundy did all kinds of sexual things to the bodies of the people he killed, whereas Rodgers just committed a mass shooting.

It’s a completely different type of crime which is committed by completely different sorts of people.

For example, this is the sort of thing Ted Bundy would do.

In the fall of 1973 Bundy matriculated at UPS Law School[51] and continued courting Brooks, who flew to Seattle several times to stay with him. They discussed marriage; at one point he introduced her to Davis as his fianc?e.[25] In January 1974, however, he abruptly broke off all contact; her phone calls and letters went unreturned. Finally reaching him by phone a month later, Brooks demanded to know why Bundy had unilaterally ended their relationship without explanation. In a flat, calm voice, he replied, “Stephanie, I have no idea what you mean …” and hung up. She never heard from him again.[52] Later he explained, “I just wanted to prove to myself that I could have married her.”

Bundy was basically the opposite of Rodgers: Someone who could get women and didn’t care because he was a sociopath.

    3. Bundy was apparently highly skilled at picking up chicks. He just enjoyed killing them, he wasn’t in a snit over not being able to get laid.

      -jcr

  19. He looks normal. I don’t believe girls didn’t like him.
He probably ignored the girls that did like him.
Hee probably had a TYPE that is unreasonable to obtain.

    Anyhow, this is pretty crazy.

My symphathy to the families that were victimized by this person. I bet these girls that he killed probably were never even solicited by this guy and didn’t even have a chance to say “NO”.

    1. He looks normal. I don’t believe girls didn’t like him.
He probably ignored the girls that did like him.
Hee probably had a TYPE that is unreasonable to obtain.

It’s also possible girls really didn’t like him because they could tell he’s the kind of guy who would shoot up a college campus.

      1. Exactly. A lot of girls might be into guys who are total jerks, but most people can smell this kind of crazy & are smart enough to steer clear.

      2. “It’s also possible girls really didn’t like him because they could tell he’s the kind of guy who would shoot up a college campus.”

You’re giving the generalized “girls” too much credit and taste. I’m sure I’m not offering unique insight when I say some women are cray-cray and are attracted to like.

If he’d found the right girl maybe things could have turned around, but maybe they’d eventually have gone all Mickey and Mallory.

        1. You’re giving the generalized “girls” too much credit and taste. I’m sure I’m not offering unique insight when I say some women are cray-cray and are attracted to like.

I’ve generally found that people who are attracted to crazies, whether they’re men or women, are attracted to a specific type of crazy. Rodgers was not that type of crazy.

Women might be attracted to a masculine and sexual sort of crazy, which is why Ted Bundy got love letters in prison, but I’ve never met a woman who would be attracted to a whiny little pissant’s brand of crazy.

This guy wasn’t crazy in a masculine or attractive way, he was just creepy and weird.

          1. I’d bet there wasn’t going to be any kind of positive life outcome for this guy regardless of his experience or lack of with women.

The kind of personality that can murder 6 people in cold blood will find a reason to do it. He might have had a hard time finding a job or had conflicts with co-workers eventually.

My basic assumption is that the guy isn’t reality based because fantasy is much more satisfying to the ego.

      3. Girls don’t like scrawny little guys. He was about 5’4″ tops.

        1. That explains a lot.

        2. I’m leaving in an hour for a wedding where the groom is about 5’4″. Another friend of mine is about the same height and bald, and is in a long-term relationship. Yeah, most women prefer taller guys, but it’s certainly not the rule.

          1. If “most women prefer taller guys”, isn’t that, by definition, the rule?

Not to say there aren’t lots of exceptions…

  20. Well turns out he was a failed PUA alumni that turned to hating PUA’s also.

    http://www.mediaite.com/online…..e-website/

  21. The people in this thread blaming progs sound just as stupid as the progs who are shrieking about the NRA or people who blame video games.

Everyone goes through the same idiot progressive education and very few people ever shoot up a school.

When someone shoots up a school, the only people to blame are him and possibly his parents.

    1. We know that. But we will gladly return the usual knee-jerk reactions that proggies like to toss at us. We’re all about fairness in our turnabout.

    2. Everyone goes through the same idiot progressive education and very few people ever shoot up a school.

      That doesn’t make any sense.

If I go out on a street corner right now and start preaching revolution, 999 out of 1000 people will laugh at me and ignore me.

1 out of those 1000 people will say, “Damn right, Fluffy! Let’s start right now!”

If we then go off and blow up a building McVeigh style, it would be entirely appropriate to say that I caused that.

      1. Are you seriously comparing someone agitating in favor of a crime to the nebulous argument that the ‘entitlement’ caused by progressives resulted in this shooting?

Yeah, if I say ‘One of you should murder the president’ and someone then tries to murder the president, you can logically blame me. However, if I simply argue against authority, and someone takes my anti-authoritarian message to an idiotic extreme and kills the president, you cannot logically blame me.

Do you seriously not see the difference between those two things?

        1. Those things are dramatically different, sure.

Please note that I don’t blame the video games he played, for example.

And if this guy had, I don’t know, read a lot of Dostoevsky, I wouldn’t blame his violence on generic misanthropy in literature.

But progressive educators specifically identify popular kids who don’t include everyone in their social circle as immoral bullies who are behaving unjustly. Since this guy’s manifesto and his video confession is based on the premise that women who exclude him sexually are evil and cruel, and that it is total justice for him to retaliate against them, I think it’s reasonable for me to claim that the two are possibly related.

If the guy was taught at school every day that Jews are manipulating the world to harm his interests, and he ended up shooting up a synagogue, would that be a close enough case for you?

I graduated from high school two years ahead of this guy and this is in no way my experience. I don’t recall ever being told that if I don’t hang out with someone that constitutes bullying.

More importantly, if progressive entitlement education were causing shootings, wouldn’t you expect there to be a trend towards greater violence instead of the decline in crime rates we’ve actually experienced in the last 20 years? Or does progressive education turn people into school shooters but have no impact on any other type of crime they might want to commit?

            1. More importantly, if progressive entitlement education were causing shootings, wouldn’t you expect there to be a trend towards greater violence instead of the decline in crime rates we’ve actually experienced in the last 20 years?

OK, that is actually a pretty damn good counterargument.

              1. Thank you. I’m allowed to make one good argument a year, so I try to make them count.

                1. I try to outsource these things to my orphans.

              2. This is one of the reasons I continue to hang out here. It takes guts, on a public forum like this, to admit somebody else is right. Especially on the internet I find it depressingly rare to see people behave with such honesty. Usually I just see people shut up and slink away.

            2. Is 20 years ago before the advent of progressive education?

              1. btw, the rates of violent crime may have decreased in 20 years, but they’re still significantly higher than they were before the 60s.

                1. That’s the so-called “Great Society”‘s lingering resonance.

I thought that the official progressive line was that mass shootings were in fact increasing in frequency and scope?

          2. Yeah, I don’t see how “people can be taught ideas” is the same as “video games should be banned”.

        2. What I’ll say, and I hit on this above, is that he shares some overlap with prog thinking insofar as he rejected the nature of the sexual marketplace as unfair and brutish in the same way progs, many whom are reasonable smart STEM-type people, reject the notion that in the economic marketplace, a brutish lower class man can make a fortune manufacturing the perfect toilet seat. People who find their entire self-worth wrapped into economic and material successes find that reality as rage-inducing. He demonstrated a similar anger towards the sexual marketplace and thought his good genetics (talk about being a descendent of the british aristocracy), wealth (which he appears to have flaunted), intelligence (which appears to be a faux intellect, being that he was still at city college at 22), and looks (he didn’t appear to think himself ugly given the sheer volume of selfies) entitled him to more success with women than these drunken extroverted frat boys.

That he posted at PUA Hate meant he had been exposed to the PUA culture and the various game techniques. Now, he appears to be someone who lacked social calibration entirely, so it may have been doomed from the start. But he appears to know the sexual marketplace as described in PUA literature but simply rejected it (perhaps after a few unsuccessful attempts where his negs came across not as disqualifying, but rather merely petulant assholish).

          1. I’ll say this: this kid is a carbon copy of David Attias, whom I knew personally. Even disregarding the uncanny similarity in upbringing, Attias snapped in part because he wanted desperately to get laid (I had spoken with him about that very subject). He also wanted broader social acceptance but he always emanated a creepy vibe. No one realized that at the time because we didn’t have the ridiculous amount of internet forums and subcultures that we do today, but you can take my word to the bank that his frustration was identical to this kids.

            1. you can take my word to the bank

              Not till Tuesday, anyway.

              1. Where it can be exchanged for the proper 2 cents (less commission).

    3. I don’t think that anyone is saying that progs are responsible for his actions, just that his viewpoint is a good example of their philosophy taken to an extreme but logical conclusion. Also, historically, they’ve had pretty well-established associations with psychotic mass murderers. Is it possible that evil can flourish under some circumstances more easily than others? Or is it all just random?

      1. I don’t think that anyone is saying that progs are responsible for his actions, just that his viewpoint is a good example of their philosophy taken to an extreme but logical conclusion.

“I don’t think that anyone is saying that libertarians are responsible for his actions, just that his misogynistic viewpoint is a good example of their philosophy taken to an extreme but logical conclusion.”

        – Some progressive at Slate, literally right this instant.

        1. “I don’t think that anyone is saying that libertarians are responsible for his actions, just that his misogynistic viewpoint is a good example of their philosophy taken to an extreme but logical conclusion.”

Hey, awesome. Then we can argue over which case is more reasonable.

I argue against the progressive case by reductio all the time. It’s an absolutely valid way to argue.

        2. The problem with that comparison is that I fucking know what progressivism is while no progressive on the face of the earth bothers to understand any political viewpoint besides their own.

If a prog said that they would be wrong because their understanding of a libertarian is likely to be an amalgam of the Stephen Colbert Report and a Koch conspiracy they read on Mother Earth news.

    4. The proggy education shifts the pool closer to crazy. Sure, the vast majority don’t go over the edge, but the random variations mean will flip out than otherwise would have.

  22. The Academic Left replies:

“Tumescent with frustration, caught betwixt the shifting polarities of Bad Faith and Otherhood, and the illusory veil of negative rights that serves as the brass ring on postindustrial AmeriKKKoch’s postcapitalist glass ceiling, the cumulative microaggressive privileges of these white blond womyn had so fundamentally distorted the interspacial power structure of this biracial’s inner reality, deconstructing mores and norms that a century ago had been held sacrosanct, that Authenticity could only be derived from one sublime act of macroaggressive patriarchy forever encapsulating Transcendence within Facticity…”

    1. Good, but way too much Sartre to be the modern academic left. With all his emphasis on personal responsibility he’s gone out of vogue.

    2. It’s 1994 all over again.

    3. What utter pretentious bullshit that passage is. 🙂

  23. After watching what I could stomach of this little turds video, I think he missed his true calling. Displaying one of the most wretched entitlement attitudes I have yet to see, he would have been a star leftist politician.

  24. Interesting thread.

I like reading the kids’ “Darth Von Douchebag” writing more than watching the video. (I haven’t watched the video. It would just make me want to punch him and I get that too often anyway)

Reading the stuff, its clear he’s watched 1000s of movies, and lifted his Self-Important Dastardly Genius Evil Villain Who Just Wanted To Be Loved from a clich? character archetype. This deranged shooting was produced and directed by Michael Bey. Inside, he’s just a dumb teenager with a Napoleon complex. No wonder he never got any pussy.

This is why I think kids really need to beat each other up more often before they turn 16. Fighting exorcises a lot of the self-loathing and fear and distracts from the lack of sex-having.

I bet his dad is a monumental douchebag too.

So = I blame Michael Bay films, and a dickhead dad. (I reserve the right to also blame progressives, public schools, women, dr phil, Ritalin, internet porn, PUA(? dont even want to know), cat allergies, and solar flares if further information should become available).

The important thing is that he shot himself, which means at least he did one thing right.

    1. He’s the Anakin Skywalker of serial killers.

    2. So = I blame Michael Bay films, and a dickhead dad. (I reserve the right to also blame progressives, public schools, women, dr phil, Ritalin, internet porn, PUA(? dont even want to know), cat allergies, and solar flares if further information should become available).

Ironically enough, if we condense all those awful things down to a single element they coalesce into a single being. That being being a creature known as GILMORE.

So, in the end, GILMORE is responsible for everything!!!!

      1. I am not allergic to cats, so your theory has just been exploded.

Also, really… The Rock is a decent movie.

        1. You really are a funny dude.

          1. “John Mason: Are you sure you’re ready for this?

Stanley Goodspeed: I’ll do my best.

John Mason: Your “best”! Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen.

Stanley Goodspeed: Carla was the prom queen.

            John Mason: Really?

Stanley Goodspeed: [cocks his gun] Yeah.”

            See? that’s good

  25. What about him offing his three roommates (with a knife)? What was that about?

    1. It’s about the knife lobby and their stranglehold on our democracy, is what it’s about…

      1. Well, yes, obviously.

I assume his roommates weren’t blonde sorority “sluts”. They must have been dudes who banged blonde sorority “sluts”. If not, then he had even more problems than his admitted sexual frustration. And he used a knife on them: he must have been very good with it, as he was able to slaughter all three of them. I guess he did not want to shoot them because that might have ruined his chance to go out for a drive.

Shooting people is bad enough, but stabbing them to death is really personal. To feel the blade enter the body …

  26. This one really hits home for me, I went to elementary, middle, and high school with one of the victims, played basketball with him when I was in 8th grade and he was in 7th. He was a really good guy, fuck psychos like the asshole in this video who do shit like this. He seems like a totally pathetic loser, but that’s not surprising.

I echo Irish’s sentiments above. Blaming progressives for this is just as idiotic as blaming guns, the NRA, or video games. And I’m sure feminists are blaming this on the patriarchy that teaches men that they’re entitled to women. That’s stupid too. But given how much we call other sides out for their dumb arguments, we should be the last to engage is similar antics ourselves.

    1. Agreed, this nut was just stopped up and psychotic. Only person to blame is him.

    2. Sorry to hear about you losing a buddy. Like I said above, I’ve been on the other side of this equation as I knew the last Isla Vista mass murderer personally while I was living in FT. This whole event has caused a rush of memories back to that event, which was one of the main turning points in my own life.

I don’t think now is the time to be blaming any particular aspect, whether the NRA, progressive ideology, affluenza, autism spectrum disorders, parenting, the mental health/psychology community or anything else.

I’ve generally not shared my story of Attias with many people, only really close friends and long term romantic relationships, but I actually did share it in the realm of social media yesterday because if there was one moment in my life I could re-live, it was the last time I saw that kid before he went on his rampage.

The one thing that strikes me in all this is that when you see someone who’s clearly struggling to find identity and feels out of place, a kind word or good gesture may stop that person from snapping and doing the kind of barbaric shit that Attias and now Rodger did.

      1. Well said.

Condolences to all those affected by both tragedies.

      2. I don’t think now is the time to be blaming any particular aspect, whether the NRA, progressive ideology, affluenza, autism spectrum disorders, parenting, the mental health/psychology community or anything else.

That’s exactly what you’d expect to hear from a right-winger with blood on his/her hands!

        1. Sorry, I posted that before I read the next paragraph. I’m not *that* much of an ass.

          1. No need to apologize. It was all in good humor and of course my own experience is 13 years old now, so it’s not exactly a fresh wound that I’m still reeling from. I only mention it because the events of this weekend brought it back to the front of my memory and it is without question such an eerie similarity in motivation and methodology that it seemed relevant to my role in any discussion of these events.

            1. Hi Sudden,
Did you know that baby flounder (fishlets? Fingerlings?) are born/hatched, swimming upright, one eyeball to each side of the head? At the equivalent of puberty, one of their eyeballs starts migrating to the other side of their face? We humans with our teenage zits will NEVER understand the growing pains of a flounder? The only way to understand the growing pains of a flounder, is to be a juvenile flounder. ? Why relevant here? Here, my unsolicited advice: Attias did what he did for reasons that you and I cannot understand? And do not WANT to fully understand! I have puzzled over the suicides of my brother and of my aunt. Plain and simple: There is NO sense to be found, in senselessness! In any “ultimate” or even anywhere-near-ultimate sense, we do NOT want to understand! Ever!

      3. No one ever seems to see it coming. Don’t know why, but that seems to be the way it is.

  27. It’s Tulpas all the way down.

  28. Well it seems like the thing on the internet to do today to diagnose this guy in 140 characters or less so I guess I’ll throw in too.

I think people are getting off-track by focusing on this as a sex thing. It wasn’t. It was a status thing. His family situation, from what I’ve read, seems to be filled with conflicting messages (to him) about his personal status and that he was obsessed with resolving this discord through material things, and, failing that, through power. I think it is safe to say that his had a very diminished or non-existent ability to emotionally connect with people which made him unable to obtain the trophy he most desperately sought as a method of boosting his self-image and sense of what he believed his proper status was. I also believe that if he had achieved it (the hot girlfriend) that something else would have eventually driven him to the breaking point and though the targets may have been different, the acting out of a lethal power fantasy would have been the same.

    1. I think you’re spot on here. It was a status thing. He constructed a hierarchy of status and believed he should hold a particular position on the hierarchy based on money, social position. But he was completely ridged in his construct – not understanding that other elements (social skills, intellect, personality) are interwoven within it. He couldn’t understand his failure and then couldn’t alter his “rules” so he became increasingly frustrated. Someone so inflexible in their thought process is eventually going to lose it in any number of different situations.

    2. “Dances-with-Trolls|5.25.14 @ 2:20PM|#

Well it seems like the thing on the internet to do today to diagnose this guy in 140 characters or less “

      “ASSHOLE”

      I win

      1. “PUSSY”

Looks like you double bogey’d my par five.

        1. Eh, I don’t know about that.

In the “Dicks, Pussies, and Assholes” theory of everything, an Asshole is only an inch and a half away from being a Pussy, but is completely full of shit. Ergo = this guy is an asshole.

          1. pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything……..If you don’t let us fuck this asshole, we’re going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

            1. Fuck Yeah!

    3. I also believe that if he had achieved it (the hot girlfriend) that something else would have eventually driven him to the breaking point and though the targets may have been different, the acting out of a lethal power fantasy would have been the same.

If he’d have achieved the “hot girlfriend”, he would have brutally slain her when they inevitably broke up. This kid was mentally ill, and that illness was wrapped up in a jarring immaturity that fed that illness.

      1. Beyond being a category error, the problem with the concept of “mental illness” is that it lumps any sort of maladaptive behavior in with the crazy people, the evil people (sociopaths & anti-social personalities), and the people who suffer from dementia or another diagnosable brain injury.

When you have this massive, generic, and incredibly hazy category of “mental illness” that’s supposed to be diagnosed by medical and psychiatric professionals, suddenly people suffering from anxiety disorders or depression are enduring the same categorical and rhetorical treatment as sociopaths and schizophrenics. Legislatively, that leads to “mentally ill” people being persecuted by the state (see CA stealing guns) despite the fact that the designation is so broad as to be meaningless.

All that’s happening despite the reality being that everyone has issues–a psychiatrist could diagnose literally anyone with one disorder or another because the psychiatric map of disorders is necessarily hazy compared to your standard physician who regards patients the same way a mechanic regards a car.

From all appearances, the person who perpetrated this crime was a sociopath. He wasn’t “mentally ill” like a sufferer of anxiety is “mentally ill” or like a depressed person is “mentally ill.” Like everyone else, he had his problems, but his issue seems to be that he was an entitled jackass who projected the cause of his suffering onto everyone else rather than taking responsibility for his own emotions.

        1. Hi Knarf the Yenrabian,
Spot on, Bro or Bro-ess! “Evil” is a four-letter word, not spoken in polite society any more? “Evil” in now replaced in the shrink’s handbook with an entry called “compassion challenged”, or who knows what? ? Meanwhile, tiny bit off topic, but those who have insomnia, anxiety, depression, etc., might want to check out http://www.fisherwallace.com/ ? I was having job-stress-related insomnia a few months ago, and was on the verge of springing $600 for this thing, but now I am holding off, am feeling better? So? No personal experience with it, cannot say if it works for me or not? I seriously doubt that it is any kind of cure for EVIL, though?

  29. People like this do it for the notoriety as much as any of their other reasons. So can we PLEASE stop talking about him? I think if in the wake of some of these shootings they acknowledged the shooters name but then refused to talk about him, his life, his motivations or insanity we could prevent some future ones. People who think they are invisible or that if they do this then people might care just might not decide to go out in a blaze of glory if there was no glory. Just my opinion obviously…

    1. This gets into the media’s role in helping create copy cats and inspired killers.

If they main-stream media addressed these issues as:

“Some worthless scumbag did some awful things today and left messages as to what his insane thoughts were to drive him to these deeds. We’re not going to tell you about him, and just hope he rots in a very special circle of hell. We’re going to tell you about this loser’s victims instead.”

I believe that would actually cause less of these kinds of things from happening.

  30. Nikki’s link above really sheds light.

The guy was diagnosed with Asperger’s. Like most aspies he was rule and hierarchy bound. That explains his repeated references to blondes (blondes are at the top of the hierarchy) and his belief he was the perfect guy and a true gentleman. It also explains his weird laugh, affected speech and emotional fakeness. Aspies act out when they believe they’re being treated “unfairly”.

This guy constructed a ridged rule system and a hierarchy of value regarding sex and women and was outraged when they didn’t conform to his system. He then acted out out of frustration.

    1. Didn’t that asswipe in Connecticut have aspergers? Not that that means anything.

      1. He had a book on asperger’s syndrome. That was all. I have reading material concerning mental conditions I don’t have because I find them fascinating, not because I have them.

        1. I’m pretty sure you’re incorrect about Lanza here.

          1. is centristclassicalliberal from connecticut?

            I think you confused him.

          2. He was never officially diagnosed.

    2. Oh, come on. Everyone can be ‘diagnosed’ with aspergers these days. Its been the most popular diagnosis of the last decade, and reached Peak Meaningless sometime around 2 years ago

      http://www.forbes.com/sites/em…..s-meaning/

I’ve met a bunch of “real” aspies in my brothers’ Psych treatment over the years, and they are more like ‘shy-robots’ (they don’t look you in the eye when they talk) and nothing like above the above narcissistic psychopathic douche-teen obsessed with his personal status and absent sex life.

Aspies notably a) don’t care about sex or gender particularly – in fact, find other people’s obsession with it, ‘confusing’, and b) similarly have no desire for ‘status’ because they have no capacity at all to care what other people might think of them. They lack the imagination required to see oneself through other people’s eyes. Which is why they almost universally have bad haircuts and wear comfortable shoes.

      1. I agree that Aspergers has nothing to do with this guy. Antisocial Personality Disorder, however, seems to me at the moment to fit like a glove.

      2. My youngest son is diagnosed as Asperger’s. He attends a school that specializes in high functioning aspies and has many aspie friends (yes, some aspies have friends!)

At this point, the whole DSM-5 is an abomination, and everything is over diagnosed including bi-polar and depression.

That said, there are a couple of commonalities for an Asperger diagnosis:
        1) inflexible behavior or rule bound. 2) obsessive or compulsive interests.

This guy demonstrated both and could have been effectively treated for both, and that’s why it’s important to identify the problem because we can ameliorate the situation. Meaning 7 fewer dead people MAYBE.

        1. My stepson has also been diagnosed with Asperger’s. I completely agree with you.

      3. It’s a bit harsh to say that Asperger’s lack imagination or are incapable of seeing themselves through other people’s eyes. These individuals are imaginative and perceptive in many ways, but human interactions and expectations are extremely complex, and they lack the hard-wired circuitry that enables most humans to understand them quickly.

      4. In fact, diagnosing him as an Aspie and then following that regimental treatment probably furthered whatever lingering psychosis he was dealing with.

I have severe contempt for the modern SpEd field and see it as an abject failure, even by public education’s woefully low standards.

        1. My son was homeschooled k-8 and has never seen a special ed classroom. He takes no meds and hasn’t seen a psych since his initial diagnosis at the age of 7.

Asperger’s can be “treated” but I would never entrust my child to either the quackery that is modern psychiatry or to the child abuse that is public education. The most effective treatment is good parenting.

      5. Part of the problem with the present Aspergers’s (and for that matter autism) diagnosis is that is so broad. It can encompass a broad spectrum of behavior and Rogers may actually be in that spectrum.

To be fair to the psychiatric community, one of the first steps to fix any issue is to recognize you have an issue, and one of this guys issues was he didn’t have a problem, everybody else did.

        1. You don’t know what you’re talking about. When I was diagnosed with asperger syndrome I went through a rigorous six hour evaluation.

They’re just now getting good at diagnosing it. Traditionally they’ve been misdiagnosed as psychopaths or having OCD, and otherwise acted as one of society’s primary scapegoats.

          1. Didn’t you just state above that you DON’T have any mental conditions?

            1. Forget about it Jake…its Tulpatown.

            2. No, he didn’t state that.
              He said:
” I have reading material concerning mental conditions I don’t have because I find them fascinating, not because I have them.”

      6. @ Gilmore

They’re just now getting good at diagnosing asperger syndrome. Traditionally they’ve been misdiagnosed as psychopaths or having OCD, sort of like how LGBT people were diagnosed with all sorts of horrible things.

        1. As a diagnosed Obsessive-Compulsive, I take umbrage at your lumping OCD in with psychopathology and “all sorts of horrible things.” Then again, I expect that kind of behavior from a mere “aspie.”

          1. I didn’t lump people with OCD with psychopaths. I said that people with asperger syndrome have been historically misdiagnosed with OCD or psychopathy.

      7. I agree that this does not seem like Aspie behavior, but keep in mind that there is a broad range of Aspie behavior, ranging from quite strange to almost normal.

What is truly curious about the reporting of the case is that the murderer killed four men and half that many women, but it is being reported as being all about misogyny.

      8. I agree. I’m no psychiatrist, but when have Aspergers sufferers been violent? They usually shun what I would call a ‘normal’ level of human contact. This kid seemed to be desperate for it.

        1. Yeah, my experience tells me Aspergers sufferers just aren’t that interested in human interaction. He’s got other problems.

    3. I have asperger syndrome and I couldn’t be more indifferent to hierarchies beyond file systems and book shelfs, and while I do have my own philosophies about a variety of things i’m not a rules person either. I don’t see why you need anything beyond don’t hurt anybody.

      1. You have ‘douchebag disorder’.

        Totally different.

        1. You’re a sadist who confuses pain with pleasure.

          1. Since you have in the past confused everyone here as being as ‘a bunch of Social-Conservative Rick Santorums’, I’d think you suffer from delusions completely unrelated to Aspergers.

I don’t buy your advertised persona any more than your claim to be Aspie. You’re a sad sock.

            1. When did I confuse everyone here of being “a bunch of social conservative Rick Santorums”? I did point out that many of the commenters sound like Rick Santorum when foreign policy and most cultural issues (not the government’s involvement in said issue) are discussed and how they otherwise seem to want a soapbox to voice their dislike of cosmotarians, and if people are going to keep accusing me of being someone else because they have nothing else to say then I think you’re an intoxicated John.

  31. Pathetic losers have been pathetic losers forever. They’ve always been around; just look at Tulpa. But there is nothing a pathetic loser wants more than to be able to blame their pathetic loserness on others. If given the slightest opportunity to take the opprobrium from themselves and cast it onto others, they will take it. This kid is a perfect example of that. It’s all everybody else’s fault, and that made him upset enough to make someone pay for it.

Ultimately, I see this kind of behavior as an extreme avoidance of personal responsibility. If you start thinking all your failures aren’t your fault but everyone else’s, you’re going to start thinking you need to punish them, and then fucked up stuff like this happens.

    1. I haven’t always been around.

    2. Pathetic losers have been pathetic losers forever.

Slow down there, cowboy. Some of us have worked very hard for our achievements. Saying we were ‘born’ with this talent suggests no effort on our part. I beg to differ!

  32. That video was bizarre.

    1. Meh, sounds like any typical proggie rant. Just replace this doucher’s “girls” fixation with “privilege” and the focus of “sex” with “social justice” and you have most threads on KOS or HUFFPOST.

  33. From one of this douche’s posts on PUAHate:

Full Asian men are disgustingly ugly and white girls would never go for you. You’re just butthurt that you were born as an asian piece of shit, so you lash out by linking these fake pictures. You even admit that you wish you were half white. You’ll never be half-white and you’ll never fulfill your dream of marrying a white woman. I suggest you jump off a bridge.

Last sentence sound familiar, H+R readers?

    1. LOLz at the comments on the SPLC site.

Watching the progs develop brain bubbles trying to find some way to categorize this incident as an example of their preconceived notions of right-wing violence… quite entertaining.

    2. Full Asian men are disgustingly ugly and white girls would never go for you

The only people who would say that are men whom a woman or girl rejected in favor of an Asian man.

I regularly post on Usenet, and one of the posters on soc.culture.israel, who calls himself the Revd, regularly makes derogatory comments about Greeks. I suspect that a Greek girl turned down his sexual advances.

  34. “I am not Tulpa!” – Hydra

  35. By the way, just thought I’d mention:

The word around the liberal blogs today is that they’re all going to get together and “mock” conservatives into giving up their guns, since “nothing else has worked”.

These guys really don’t have any self-awareness at all, do they?

    1. Oh the horror,
being mocked and othered by pajama boys.

    2. “These guys really don’t have any self-awareness at all, do they?”

Well, they have what you might call a retarded and distorted ‘self-awareness’.

They assume that because their own political beliefs are based 100% on ‘feelings’ and ‘how they think it makes them appear to their peers’, that everyone else follows the same entirely-superficial behavior pattern.

They fail to appreciate that they are themselves a tiny fraction of the populace, and that no one else ‘wants to be like them’ or ‘appeal to them’.

That no one cares what they might think is ‘cool or not’ has not occurred to them.

    3. What about the fucking knives? Why does the knife lobby get a pass?

      1. He also ran down and injured (not killed) some kid on a skateboard too. Why does the BMW lobby get a pass?

    4. Maybe we can twist it into somehow selling them guns.

“oh yeah here i will give up my gun to you OK? But it kind of cost a lot. How about you give me its retail price?”

      1. What about your gas money? What about the value of your time? What about the psychic cost of realizing that the gun grabbers are right?

2x the retail price seems like a reasonable starting point.

    5. This kind of “tactic” really makes me chuckle. I almost wish I could run into somebody like this. Without even touching a weapon or resorting to threats I bet I could make one of these pajama-boy types piss itself with little more than a stern look and a grumble.

  36. “It is disturbing in the extreme. The Washington Post has a transcript, which reads like a parody of a male supremacist screed from generations ago:”

What? He was a ridiculously entitled emo poseur, complete with evil genius “mu ha ha ha ha ha”. I find it funny when you do it as a joke, but he’s play acting doing it for real. What a tool.

Male supremacists from any generation would most likely beat the snot out of this guy on sight.

As for the PUAs, this guy is the definition of clueless, got no game loser. They are the cure for his idiocy.

This is the usual thing the left does. “Never let a crisis go to waste.” Instead of condemning *him*, they take the animus against him and target it at their usual enemies, no matter how absurd the connection.

  37. they’re all going to get together and “mock” conservatives into giving up their guns, since “nothing else has worked”.

    Yeah, sure, whatever.

Let me know how that turns out.

  38. On behalf of crazy people everywhere, I just want to make clear that we’re not all ticking timebombs. Most of us are just harmless weirdos.

    1. I think you can relax. this guy doesn’t seem to be ‘crazy’ at all. He’s just a grade-A dickhead.

    2. @ Mentally ill: Having worked with mentally ill folks for a bit, and most of those homeless, I just want to make clear that most of the mentally ill folks I met weren’t even “weirdos.”

    3. No worries dude. People here may get fast and loose with language and labels, but we’re definitely very far from the “Lock ’em all up” end of the spectrum.

  39. Side note =

You’d think the idiots who think ‘gun control’ stops this sort of shit might have bothered to note that California has had the strictest of the strict controls in place for decades… and yet = DERP nOT EnUFFS?

No, they will say that until gun shops have the ability to mind-read and conduct psych evals and genetically determine criminal propensity, that no one should be trusted with firearms.

      1. and pointed sticks

        /monty

    1. “No, they will say that until gun shops have the ability to mind-read and conduct psych evals and genetically determine criminal propensity, that no one should be trusted with firearms.”

Actually, they think that would be a good start. They have boat loads of other ideas to put into law after that.

  40. I won’t blame progressives for this tragedy.

But I’ll note that the lefties have a tendency to rationalize or even advocate violence if in the service of social justice. If they destroy property or assault a WS banker at a rally, that’s “civil disobedience” IYou won’t likely see that kind of violence at a tea party or some libertarian gathering). And their fascination with Che and Hugo Chavez is self explanatory.

Reason believed that the folks who portrayed Christopher Dorner (another manifesto writer, and more politically motivated) as a hero were a fringe. But I don’t think that was the case. For these people, the ends often justifies the means. They’ll change their tune IMMEDIATELY if the topic changes to the Iraq War, of course.

What do libertarians think about “tiger moms”? All I know is, my mom wouldn’t let me play 5 hours of video games at basement at age twenty, and there’s even a less chance that she would pay for rent so I can move out. “Oh, but I’m a grownup and I have rights” – this has no effect on OG Asian women.

The irony is that it’s stupid easy to isolate yourself from any culture or humanity is CA and other strongholds, even though they live and die by “diversity” and tolerance. I didn’t attend any Kwannza celebrations in college. We played a lot of counter strike, and my roommates got drunk a lot.

    1. Commentators here at reason portrayed Dorner as a hero. Go back and read the comments.

  41. And nobody’s discussing why, despite California, one citizen, carrying heat, at one killing location, couldn’t, didn’t, put a jacketed round in this fuck’s melon.

    1. The popular left takes it for granted that more guns can’t solve the problem of social violence and mocks the idea that more guns will make the world safer. It’s their MO: they don’t understand that humans are rational creatures who, above all else, respond to incentives, and that guns disincentivize violence by leveling the playing field across every spectrum: young-old, weak-strong, male-female, disabled-healthy.

It’s all part of the old tabula rasa debate. Whereas most libertarians believe that we’re a Jekyll-Hyde species that’s essentially a brainy version of a chimp–that our nature is bounded by biology and the psychology developed by biology and evolution–the modern left still clings to the utopian belief that the species can change its nature if we just try hard enough or adhere to the perfect intellectual scheme.

Tell a utopian that people in the aggregate are best modeled as machines that respond to simple incentives and watch his head explode.

      1. the modern left still clings to the utopian belief that the species can change its nature if we just try hard enough or adhere to the perfect intellectual scheme.

I agree with this….only that that last part would be far to gruesome and inhumane for pretty much anyone who isn’t Stalin.

The left’s biggest problem is they just don’t realize that like everyone else the vast majority of them would be used to fill ditches in such a scheme.

        1. While the vast majority working 12 hour days at a nickel an hour for corporate overlords with near complete control over their livelihoods is what’s known as freedom.

Why not try asking a liberal what he really believes?

          1. Everyone knows what you believe, you fuckwit.
Stop raping the corpse of liberalism, you freak.

            1. Dammit, I was just about to sneak down below and congratulate everyone for not responding to Trolly.

          2. While the vast majority working 12 hour days at a nickel an hour for corporate overlords with near complete control over their livelihoods is what’s known as freedom.

During the time frame when the United States came closest to embodying the scenario you describe…

…Millions of people were clawing their way onto rickety ocean steamers to try to get here.

          3. While the vast majority working 12 hour days at a nickel an hour for corporate overlords with near complete control over their livelihoods is what’s known as freedom.

Sounds a good deal like that workers’s paradise known as the People’s Republic of China.

            1. N. Korean’s have it much better.

    2. Indeed, why doesn’t real life turn out like a Bruce Willis movie all the time? Sororities would be so much safer with lots of guns around, just like any group of people, as has been evidenced somewhere in the fevered holes of psychopathy that the NRA tells us is rational thought, albeit never in real life.

      1. “why doesn’t real life turn out like a Bruce Willis movie all the time?”

Because in real life psychos like this, and most common criminals as well, when faced with armed opposition fold up and either run, give up, or (like the case in question) kill themselves. BTDT.

      2. Having a gun would have saved them from this progressive freak.

      3. Holy fuck you are stupid. Do shades of gray exist at all in your private fantasy? Is it that hard to imagine that there are people that carry a holstered pistol every day without incident? I don’t know where you live but, assuming it’s not one of the gun-free paradises enacted by your fellow pants wetting lefty buddies you are likely near several concealed carry folks every day.

Remember, just because you are personally terrified of an inanimate object and couldn’t possibly see how you could carry one responsibly doesn’t mean that everyone else is equally pussified and irresponsible.

      4. If this guy thought other people were armed, he wouldn’t have had the guts to go out his door on his Day of Retribution in the first place.

So Bruce Willis never has to save the day. Because the situation doesn’t arrive.

This guy almost shit himself with fear when the cops came to question him. If there was any chance whatsoever of opposition, he’d be cowering in his apartment narrating videos even now.

The whole reason the Day of Retribution was a power fantasy for him is because it was the one time he anticipated feeling like he had more power than the people around him. If he has to worry about other people with guns, that fantasy can’t exist. None of these guys are lining up to volunteer to join the Navy SEALS.

      5. Tony, your fantasies which equate gun ownership with violence are as poorly-founded (which is why they are fantasies), as your insistence on the non-existence of natural rights. You seem intelligent enough, but the basic premises you operate from — based, seemingly, on your own superiority complex and willingness to accept any ideas which suit your fanciful positions – with total disregard for historical facts or philosophy, completely and totally undermine your pathetic analysis for what you call reason, making most of your comments here null, void, and meaningless. Then again, the “superiority complex” might just be a persona you choose to adopt, since you are probably just trolling to get irate responses and try to piss lots of people off. I will admit it would be quite entertaining to share a cup of coffee with you and have a long discussion about your various views on the human condition. Not that I would change your views, or you mine, but it would be an interesting way to pass the time.

  42. “a parody of a male supremacist screed from generations ago”

Unless this means Jack the Ripper’s letters to London newspapers, I’m not sure what they’re referring to. Or actually, I think I *do* know – anyone “from generations ago” who talked in a non-feminist way about relations between the sexes was the equivalent of a loony killer.

    1. Seriously, Nick Gillespie*, can you explain your choice of phrasing?

      * “Mr. Gillespie” seems to formal for Reason, “Nick” seems to familiar, and “Gillespie” seems somehow out of place.

      1. Also, for grammatical consistency, the headline of the story should be that the video is “chilled” since it is also deeply disturbed.

      2. The Jacket

  43. I wonder when the prog leadership will call for a more equitable distribution of pussy, as they already call for a more equitable distribution of wealth.

    1. This. All this guy did was have his own little private Occupy movement railing against the 1% of poon hounds.

  44. Too bad this creep did have the level of determination to put a bullet in his own brain when he hit the end of his spree. If only he had not been able to do that and was taken into custody I would have wagered that by the end of the month he would no longer have been a virgin, just not in the way he was imagining it.

    1. He could have pronoun reassignment surgery and changed his name to Chelsea.

  45. Well the Christian God dooms you to eternal damnation when you don’t comply with his commands, this guy is a little friendlier.

  46. We need a stronger Sexual Safety Net so those that can’t get laid don’t slip through the cracks. The good looking aren’t paying their fair share, and we all know they need to be getting less sex because they didn’t get there on their own. They plundered and stole the decent looks that the now ugly used to have. Redistribute sexual attractiveness!

    1. Redistributing sexual attractiveness is a repentantly authoritarian and unnatural idea. Clearly we need a market-based solution to this social epidemic of unlaid 20-year-old men.

The only reasonable solution is to mandate that all hot women redistribute sex equally among all men whether rich or poor, ugly or handsome, fit or obese, while being paid a reasonable sum for each sexual encounter. Each state can establish its own sex exchange to ensure equal treatment among men, or they can opt into the federal exchange. Women refusing to put out their fair share will be subject to a penal-tax, and those who object to the exchange on religious or moral grounds may take their case to the Supreme Court, where they will be ignored.

      1. …will be subject to a penal-tax,…

Maybe we could call it a shared responsibility payment

        1. Free hookers?

    2. “That face, that six pack? You didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

  47. The killer’s family says they’re “anti-gun”, but they apparently gave him enough allowance money to buy 3 handguns and hundreds of bullets. At the top of my head, glocks cost around 300 bucks.

Maybe they didn’t know how he was spending his money. But why give a 20 year old that kind of money? A luxury car? His own apartment? They allowed him financial independence even after calling the police to check on him? 20 year olds are adults in name only, many of them need proper guidance.

When will bad / lax / permissive parenting enter into the national conversation? The crap public schools didn’t prevent me and other Asians from earning high grades, because our moms were on our cases like white on rice. The Sega Genesis was in the living room, there was no chance I could play that 5 hours a day.

    1. Buy em’ an iPhone and a Beemer and they’ll love you forever.

  48. So often people don’t realize it’s their own darn fault that no one likes them. When I went through a lonely phase, I realized it was time to work on myself rather than pout about other people.

    1. But it’s never ALL their fault, not even this vicious bastard. Whether we like to admit it or not, “the luck of the draw” has a massive impact on our how our lives turn out.

This world is chock full of really horseshit advice and, especially when you’re young, how are you supposed to know just exactly what to do to help yourself when you’re bombarded with suggestions that range from useless to harmful?

This isn’t to extend an ounce of sympathy to that murderous shithead, but it is to extend it to those who suffer from the same sorts of mental issues but don’t hurt anybody.

      1. But it’s never ALL their fault, not even this vicious bastard. Whether we like to admit it or not, “the luck of the draw” has a massive impact on our how our lives turn out.

        Do you have empirical evidence?

      2. Agreed.

Whenever two people don’t connect, it’s always a mutual failure, although it’s often uneven.

One thing I’ve learned in life is you yourself have to take the lead in making friends because other people are shy and have narrow comfort zones too, and they have their own baggage.

  49. People seem to identify a particular cause/political leaning as to why more people have gone postal in the last five decades (left/right/conservative/progressive/entitlement). There probably isn’t one specific cause other than an increased lack of empathy. I think this is rooted in the explosion of media in general, and not even with a specific causal subset (e.g. video games, movies). We are simply awash in people, faces, personalities, opinions, etc – inundated by “artificial” people we see and hear everyday. Mass media “commoditizes” people. It’s the only explanation I have as to why guns have existed for centuries, mental illness throughout recorded history, and it is only a recent phenomenon to have nuts up bell towers. And is there any end to “mass media”? Of course not, the benefits so vastly out weigh any negative that could be associated with mass killings. I’m sure the pathology that produces mass killers existed prior to mass media, it just is an evolving combination – outliers that come with any reality.

Simply, we’ve had guns for centuries, we’ve had crazy people for millennia, and hyper mass-media for about 5-6 decades. If the combination of damaged people – being impacted by a tidal wave of humanity that they can’t process – pick up an infinitesimal number of guns and fire upon a mass of people, it’s not possible to impound all guns, kill all borderline people, pull the plug on mass medial, or forbid people gathering in masses to be group targets.

    1. cont.

In other words, there’s no answer. We have to accept this type of thing happening once or twice a year. Of course, that’s an unacceptable answer in the Force First culture we live in, and the superstitious who have to find The One Cause.

Tornadoes knock down houses and kill people seasonally, over medicated old people fall asleep at the wheel and crash into crowds, drunk teens wrap themselves around trees out on country roads. No matter how much we try and intervene and make rules we can’t banish the combinations of actions or in-actions to prevent tragedy. You can’t ban houses without shelters, or teens driving, or cars, or medication, or old people. And you can’t simply ban guns because and statistical outlier of their numbers are used in a dreadful way.

      1. But toolkien! “There’s no answer!??!?!” HOW can you SAY that??! If we rolled over and played dead in the face of “free will” on the part of 7 billion some free-will humanoids on the planet, each following their own free will? And the INFINITE CHAOS that follows from that? Then we might LOSE FAITH in the Power of ALL of the Governments Almighties across our entire planet, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM just overflowing with LOVE for their citizen/subjects, and their GAWD-given powers to encode EVERY-thing (every combination and permutation of circumstance that could EVER happen)? So as to PROTECT us all, from CHAOS and BADNESS!!! New problem crops up? Another 414,543 pages MUST be IMMEDIATELY added to our laws and regulations!!! “Bureaucrats dream of system so perfect, that NO ONE needs to be good.” Who said that? Adolf Mussolini, I think? We must all now OBEY, lest chaos and badness befester all of our lands?

  50. Why do they never shoot the therapist?

    1. From CNN–“His mother came across his YouTube videos in April after she hadn’t heard from Rodger in a few days, Astaire said. She called one of his therapists, who then called a Santa Barbara mental health hotline. A woman on the hotline called police to check on him, Astaire said.
Six policemen showed up at his house in Isla Vista on April 30, but they found nothing alarming, so they told Rodger to call his mother and they reassured her that he was OK, according to Astaire. Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown told reporters Saturday that at the time, deputies “determined he did not meet the criteria for an involuntary hold.”

If my mom had seen that shit on FB she would have been over in a flash with cookies and clean underwear to find out what’s up and Dad would have taken me fishing.

      1. “She called ONE of his therapists”….
That in itself says an awful lot.

  51. I didn’t watch the video, but if it’s like the excerpted text, then, heck, if there are not times when you feel like that, then there’s something wrong with you.

  52. its awesome,,, Start working at home with Google. It’s a great work at home opportunity. Just work for few hours. I earn up to $100 a day. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out http://www.Fox81.com

  53. ‘Humanity is a disgusting, wretched, depraved species. If I had it in my power, I would stop at nothing to reduce every single one of you to mountains of skulls, rivers of blood. You deserve to be annihilated.”

So he’s not insane, just a mean-spirited loser.

  54. ‘Humanity is a disgusting, wretched, depraved species.

    As compared to what?

  55. Why in the hell is the NRA being blamed? Even though I don’t support them as they abandon freedom in favor of trying to sell more police state and “mental health” nonsense, and support politicians who have voted against and supported increased restrictions on the natural right to self defense….cough cough ROMNEY……

I don’t see them promoting that it is ok to rob individuals for whatever immoral desires they might have. I don’t see them advocating property be forcibly taken from individuals and redistributed to others.

That piece of shit murderer had the mindset of, “If you don’t want to give it to me I’m going to fucking take it from you by myself, or by others no matter what”. This time, the tool used wasn’t a politician, but an inanimate gun.

What ideology supports these actions? It sure as hell isn’t individuals promoting freedom and liberty. But folks like Tony, who hide behind politicians & the arms of the state (cops, standing armies) as they subject peaceful individuals to force, theft and violence if they don’t obey. Individuals who espouse such violence want others to be weak and defenseless like them, and use tragedies as propaganda in order to ignore the fact that a tough gun control state and such laws are detrimental to liberty and self defense, as that fucker would have gotten his hand on any tool to cause destruction regardless of the law.

  56. When you point out that the guy passed proper background checks (which covers mental health in California, if I’m not mistaken), the usual suspects will say we have to strengthen the process.

Maybe, but what’s the limit? Is anyone’s personal life off limits? Remarks left on the internet, personal conversation, drug purchase lists? Library records?

The gun control crowd will insist that it’s raping the constitution and a great dishonor to Edward Snowden for the govt. to collect metadata from people with KNOWN association with radicals. RAcial profiling, oh how terrible. They’re probably right, but then they’ll be ok with having gun applicants submit to some invasive tests or otherwise open up their private lives?

  57. Gee dude, maybe if you weren’t such a whiny litte emo bitch you could have gotten some trim. Self entitled little prick.

  58. Why is this news? Those people this idiot killed are not any more important than 7 other people who died yesterday, and this act doesn’t mean anything. There is less violence now than in the past; instead there is more media, so idiots think there is more violence. I am disappointed in Reason.
