Uruguay House of Representatives To Vote on Pot Legalization Bill

The Uruguayan House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a marijuana legalization bill today. If the bill passes the House it will then head to the Senate.
President Jose Mujica supports the bill, which would require buyers to be registered and would limit the amount of marijuana they could buy to 1.4oz per month.
From the BBC:
Uruguay's House of Representative is preparing to vote on a bill to legalise marijuana on Wednesday.
If passed by the House and the Senate, Uruguay will become the first country to legally regulate the production, distribution and sale of marijuana.
The law is backed by the government of President Jose Mujica, which says it will remove profits from drug dealers and divert users from harder drugs.
Under the bill, only the government would be allowed to sell marijuana.
The state would assume "the control and regulation of the importation, exportation, plantation, cultivation, the harvest, the production, the acquisition, the storage, the commercialization and the distribution of cannabis and its by-products".

So socialistic ABC legalization.
Gotta control that devil's weed and devil's brew!
I wonder how much pressure is coming from US diplomats to sink this bill?
This bill would take precious dollars from the starving, impoverished families of DEA agents and violent drug cartels. It's a lose-lose.
You know, we're the United States of America. There's nothing saying we can't conquer our 51st state, is there?
Puerto Rico?
Still not a state, and Uruguay would fit under the original idea, i.e. the thirteen colonies were independent nations who decided to have a common federal government (the US govt would just "decide for them"), and it's on the continental landmass.

A politician capable of using common sense? Bullshit, I refuse to believe it.
Maybe its because Jose Mujica rhymes with 'MURICA

So no that different from WA State.
And 1.4 oz per month should still leave the average user plenty to share/sell/distribute to the unregistered.
I don't agree with the limit, but 1.4oz should be enough for almost all users.
Maybe this will be like state lotteries in the US - earmark the government's earnings to the public schools, and launch a well-funded ad campaigns urging you to help "education" by purchasing the product.
"What are you waiting for? But some edu-juana today! The kids are counting on you! And you might win a reprieve from your boring life!"
"Today CANNA-be the day!"
Freaking genius idea.

So basically: Pot legalisation: The triumph of Graft over Puritanism
