The National ID card is a creature from hell. It will make us all aliens in our own country. If you are an LPR, you have to basically have permission from the government to work. Everyone knows that cliche about someone having a "misunderstanding with immigration". If they do this, anyone in America could lose the right to work with one misunderstanding or mistake by the government.

It won't be a national ID card, just a national you're not an illegal alien card. How did the rabid anti-illegal alien crowd think their mission would pan out? Seriously. This idea is born from the we are not doing enough to prevent illegals from working battlecall.

If the I-9 form can't do the trick, we need a stronger system to weed out the illegals. That where this card come into play. If you don't have it, you can't be hired. Only legal residence will have one. It's the best schemes put forth that will acutally reduce the number illegals hired.

Yeah, everyone has a limit to their price. I think wasting money trying to build a fence across the border so to me, that price is too high. Some people think letting Sheriff Joe get away with his antics is too high. Some people think almost anything is too high.

As far as national IDs, the drivers license or a state ID is the defato national ID card. Almost all of the greivences from polticians about the real ID act is about funding. You also have been assigned a Social Security number. What's the difference between a new worker ID card, and the combination of your drivers license and SS card? We are soooooo close to a national ID card it's becoming a game of semantics. You can hand your new employer a work ID or your state ID and SS card. The time clock might even require a finger print or palm scan.

I really, really hate to say it. But a ID card connected to hordes of personal information, habits, and activities, is just around the corner.

Our nation's attitude towards national IDs will change much in the next 10 years, just like our attitude towards the surveillence society did.

My guess (ianal) is that the overturned conviction vacated the orginal verdict but did not find him 'not guilty', rather it returned it to as if no trial had occured.
And the fucktard got some bad legal advice (or inferred it himself) that jeopardy had attached and went full fucktard.

U.S. District Judge Denise Cote is apparently one of those judges who believes in tyranny. According to the article, she sites policy considerations in her determination that "Fly On The Wall" can't post information about bank research it receives from industry insiders. Remember 'prior restraint'? And the case in the 70's that made that phrase famous was about printing the plans for a nuclear bomb, for crying out loud. It was war secrets with the Pentagon Papers. You know what? The court ruled it illegal to block freedom of the press in these cases.

She calls their reporting illegal, even though the only conceivable illegality I can think of would be on the part of the person leaking the reports, not on the part of "Fly On The Wall".

Unless I am missing something, this is a massively important story on two fronts. First, the full frontal assault on freedom of the press; and secondly and perhaps even more importantly the way that she cavalierly ignores both the letter and the spirit of the actual laws on the books in favor of "public policy" requirements.

This view has plenty of support on the current supreme court. Breyer, Stevens and company fully support this notion that a judge has the responsibility to interpret the law based on the fairness of the outcome, rather than based on the written text of the law and constitution.

Here's a hint for you Denise:
"Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."
