Lil Wayne, Steve Bannon, and Some Drug War Victims Pardoned, but No Assange, Snowden, or Ulbricht
Plus: Pelosi wants 9/11-style commission to investigate Capitol attack, MyPillow drama, and more...

Trump manages to do a little good on his way out. In his last few weeks in office, outgoing President Donald Trump went on an execution spree and spawned a riot at the U.S. Capitol. So, it's no surprise that he spent his last full day in the White House yesterday further sullying his legacy, taking back an order issued at the start of his presidency—back when he still pretended to care about "draining the swamp"—that bans administration officials from private lobbying within five years of leaving office while (for the second time) pardoning a former campaign chief. This time, the pardon went to Steve Bannon, the architect of some of the worst anti-immigrant policies and alt-right tones in Trump's campaign and early presidential days.
Meanwhile, Trump failed to pardon or commute the sentences of government whistleblowers like Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and Reality Winner or Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, as many had been urging him to.
However, Trump did issue some commendable pardons and commutations yesterday, including to rap star Lil Wayne, who was recently busted on gun charges, and Lavonne Roach, a woman sentenced to 30 years in prison for helping out with her boyfriend's meth operation.
In total, Trump approved 143 clemency petitions, commuting sentences for 70 people and pardoning 73.
At least 10 people serving life sentences for nonviolent drug crimes had their sentences commuted.
These include David Barren, whose life sentence was commuted under Barack Obama… to 30 years in prison. And they include Chris Young, who in 2014—at 26 years old—was sentenced to life in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Oh my goodness, Chris Young got a commutation. I wrote about his case in 2018. The judge who sentenced him quit a lifetime appointment to the bench and became an advocate for his release https://t.co/okAjGpjxDP pic.twitter.com/cijrXldpN6
— CJ Ciaramella (@cjciaramella) January 20, 2021
Also among those granted commutations were "Michael Pelletier, who went to prison in 2007 for importing marijuana; Craig Cesal, a first-time offender who was imprisoned in 2003 for repairing trucks that were used to distribute marijuana; and Darrell Frazier, who was sentenced in 1991 for his role in a cocaine trafficking operation," notes Jacob Sullum, who makes a case for celebrating pardons even of Trump cronies. ("The focus on Trump's motivation obscures the crucial question of whether the recipients of commutations received sentences that were grossly disproportionate in light of the conduct that sent them to prison," he writes.)
Sullum points out that while Trump's commutation total doesn't "come near Obama's, which surpassed those of his 13 most recent predecessors combined," Trump "did end up issuing nearly 100 times as many commutations as Obama did in his first term (just one)."
Now it's time for incoming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to prove they've actually changed their crime panic and cop ways by keeping this up. As Matt Welch comments, "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who both campaigned on criminal justice reform after having not governed that way in the past, can demonstrate their seriousness by commuting sentences every damned day, not just the last one."

Like Trump steaks, well done!
It’s rare to find someone that doesn’t have a beef with Trump.
A well done steak is a war crime.
Steak is the one thing I'm okay with done pretty much any way. I JUST USE IT AS A KETCHUP TRANSPORT SYSTEM ANYWAY.
How dare you!
Every time I cook steak, my kid trolls me with this. I don't eat a lot of steaks any more, so when I grill one, it is usually expensive, and obsessively cooked. And every time I put slices on my kid's plate, he goes, "Can I have some ketchup for this?" And every time I lose my shit. Then he laughs at his senile old man.
When I first moved in with my now wife, she would put steak sauce on her steak. She came from a family were steak was cooked well done and then drowned in sauce. It took me a few years to get her there, but she now eats her steak medium rare like a civilized person.

Trump manages to do a little good on his way out.
Trump may have been marginally better than others holding the office for resisting the deep state, but ultimately he was pretty much as willfully feckless as the rest.
Meanwhile, Trump failed to pardon or commute the sentences of government whistleblowers like Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and Reality Winner or Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, as many had been urging him to.
This would have been the ultimate slap in the face to the DC bureaucracy (not to mention for at least half those the right thing) and he failed to seize it.
"... as many had been urging him to."
Who are these many people and did they plausibly have any expectation of influence over Trump's thinking?
I was hoping he had Tucker Carlson's show on, or maybe someone mentioned how mad it would make so many of the swamp dwellers who've been working at cross purposes to his presidency.
"plausibly have any expectation of influence over Trump’s thinking?"
YOU'RE THE DEVIL! WE WILL NEVER ACCEPT YOU! ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS BRING RUIN ON THIS COUNTRY?
Hey, can you do me a favor pretty please?
libertarians who realize that Biden will never pardon those people?
What? No pardon for himself? He's going to regret that.
Yeah he made real progress helping the “I hate the deep state” people win credibility. Maybe one day you can even explain what the deep state is, as soon as you figure it out.
It's not that hard. The deep state is the more or less permanent cast of civil servants and military and intelligence leaders who actually do most of what the government does. This is not some weird conspiracy theory, it's just the inevitable result of a government being so big that no one can really be in charge. It's a fact of modern government that has been observed for a long time. The BBC even made a whole TV comedy about it.
That's what it means to me, anyway.
That's my take, as well. But Trump and fan club have also used the term to describe elected officials, state level politicians, members of the media, and yes, shadowy ill defined conspiracies.
Cite? Asking for WK.
I'm sure some did expand the definition of the deep state to meet their needs, but for most it seemed to be the usual suspects: the Pentagon, intelligence services and other cabinet agencies who have too much influence on (and often undue self-interest in) public policy.
By media, you mean the members that are married to and related to the above, and those that go back and forth between media and government depending on whose in the White House? Yeah they’re part of it too.
No one in media is also working with/for the CIA!
- Judith Miller
DOL, is it a fever dream that people like Clapper went to work for CNN?
Is it a fever dream that McCabe went to work for CNN?
You don't see any problem with Clapper- the guy who lied to congress and the media about NSA spying- then becoming an expert for the media? You don't see how this could be evidence that the Deep State and the Media don't really have our liberties at the top of their list?
elected officials
You do realize that about half of the candidates that the Democrats ran for public office in 2018 had ties to the spook community, right? Even Buttigieg is former intel officer, and his rather shady Democratic dark money connections--something a mayor of a shithole city like South Bend logically wouldn't be expected to have--came out after the Iowa caucus debacle.
Including elected officials in the deep state is perfectly acceptable in that context.
Buttigeig was a law ranking, know nothing, National Guard NAVAL Officer. He didn't do anything in Afghanistan but make copies, get coffee, and chase paperwork. He joined to further his political career. Mission accomplished.
He wasn't sailing ships, you dork, he was literally an intel officer. You do realize they have these in the Navy as well, yes? There's even a whole facility they operate out of at Buckley Air Force Base where they work with other spook orgs in the ADF-C.
Maybe, but it’s also a great cover story. It’s exactly the kind of resume a less scrupulous Edward Snowden could be enjoying...
you mean like spying on the incoming president, and manufacturing some bizarre Russian "dossier" meant to embarrass him?
You nailed it. They're usually the reason the "ship of state" is impossible to turn. It's a known thing. The only reason anyone has issue with the term now is like Hitler's mustache: Trump is associated with it so now it's tarnished.
the “ship of state” is impossible to turn
Repeal or reform the Civil Service Act and it becomes much easier. Mass bureaucrat firings every 4-8 years would do wonders.
"the ruling class" is just a self-aware social class of people in business, media, and government. They go to the same schools, live in the same neighborhoods, intermarry, and jump between positions.
I love it when socialists say bringing up a social class like the one in charge is a conspiracy theory.
“the ruling class” is just a self-aware social class of people in business, media, and government. They go to the same schools, live in the same neighborhoods, intermarry, and jump between positions.
I've been saying this here for years. There's a reason that media coverage tends to mimic Democratic press releases, and the reason for that is because these people all know each other and in several cases are even married to one another. They go back and forth between media, lobbying, and government gigs like a fat man at a buffet line. They literally craft their political narratives at the breakfast table, to the point that it's a common feature of political TV shows. And because the Democrats have direct ties to mass media megacorps like Disney, Viacom, and Netflix, through relationships with their CEOs, they also control the medium for pushing their political ideology through popular culture.
Or maybe there’s a minimum standard for serious consideration for admittance to civilization. Like believing that science is real.
Have you learned nothing? Not even that cheesy reality TV hosts are not equipped to run the most complex organization on the planet?
You are your problem, as any psychiatrist will tell you.
Was there a point to this psychobabble?
It is amazing how many dem politicians have spouses in the media..or how many democratic "elites" have some sort of relations/spouses or what not in the media, entertainment, NGOs and so on...or now Big Tech and Goldman Sachs...they sort of move around enriching themselves (some political hack leaves the Clinton or Obama admin..gets hired at Goldman or now FB in some VP "community relations" gig and walks back into some DC job at State or HUD after they become very wealthy. The media really needs to just put a stop to this and NOT hire or frown upon their reporters hanging our with or sleeping with politicans.
It’s a metabolic condition!
Having them explain the deep state is like listening to lay catholics explain the trinity.
Considering they did it in about 2 sentences, this seems like more evidence that you are becoming the mean girl you always complained about.
DOL’s always been a dishonest hypocrite. This is just an obvious, and funny, example.

I like how the entity that openly and proudly declared itself as part of the resistance while working in the Executive branch is still thought of as a myth by Tony.
I like how Zeb posted a good explanation, DOL agreed with it, but also posted the above.
I have to call out use of the word Failed. That suggests he tried his best but just couldn't get the whistleblowers out of prison.
Trump in fact declined to pardon them, and that should be made abundantly clear.
And he just meekly climbed into the helicopter and flew away. I guess they don't make Literally Hitlers like they used to.
Isn't that how actual literal Hitler started his journey to Argentina?
He was supposed to barricade himself in the oval office, according to CNN several weeks ago.
Maybe CNN isn't reliable?
well, the January 6th Coup failed, so what was he supposed to do today?
So ENB is still going with the trump caused riots narrarative. ENB you are truly a retard.

No thanks to lefty shits like you.
That worked to Chick-Fil-A's advantage though, I've never seen them busier than when they were getting boycotted.
I thought it was fully successful. I drive by one each Sunday on the way to church, and the parking lot is absolutely empty.
And in the end, they cucked out and brought on some affirmative action hire to promote SOSHUL JIZZTIZZ bullshit in the PR department.
The whole thing was overblown anyways, the owner doesn't support gay marriage and uses some of his money to advocate for that politically.
The company in general has never been hostile to gay people though, if you want chicken they will sell it to you no matter who you're banging, and they seem to have no trouble hiring gay people to work there either. I bet if you asked your local Chick-Fil-A to cater a gay wedding they'd do it in a heartbeat. The company didn't need to do anything since the company was never anti-gay to begin with.
But the founders were supporting.... REPUBLICANS!
Goya boycott worked great. For Goya.
Think of the pillows as a gay cake no one wants to bake.
That analogy is not great as the argument is since they're a private company they can do what they want but that doesn't make it morally right.
To expand, he didn't say they couldn't ban my pillow, he was indicating their motives for doing so are morally repugnant.
For a fake business owner, you still don't understand the difference between distribution and operation.

Don't forget the hair-sniffing.
Our long national nightmare has ended, and the healing can begin.
But first let's impeach Trump.
Study shows lockdowns will kill 900,000 Americans over the next 15 years due to economic effects of shut down. This is aside from the high increase to overdoses and suicides that have already occurred this year.
https://www.dailywire.com/news/lockdown-effect-study-projects-unemployment-from-pandemic-will-cause-nearly-900000-u-s-deaths
When have you ever, and I mean ever, fucking cared about how many people die due to economic conditions?
Spend money on keeping people from going into poverty. Do that AND don’t completely ignore a virus that’s killed half a million people in a year. That’s the alternative to what we’ve been doing.
That study doesn’t say people die because they don’t get to go to bars or concerts. It’s because of economic distress, again, something I doubt you’ve ever cared about before until your favorite useless pundits told you what to think on question of which political party a virus belongs to.
We can’t cure a disease, people will lose jobs! Most importantly, it might suggest that Trump was somehow incompetent when he decided to do nothing but lie to people and walk over their corpses as she continued to do literally nothing but whine about how unfairly everyone treats him! Way to keep your eye on the fucking ball.
Did you even read the title of that study, or do you think the Daily Wire headline was enough for you to get a good grasp on what it was actually saying?
“Oh good, science that lets me be an irresponsible cunt, finally some science I can like. No of course I’m not going to read it, don’t be ridiculous.”
Only government can keep people from poverty.
The same thing has been said since 1930. Total failure so far., but we have to try harder, right?
A ridiculous lie only someone with his head up his ass could believe.
Poverty is over?
For old and disabled people, yes. More or less. Destitution anyway. How much more would you like to spend?
Or are you talking about a poverty of character? A poverty of money is an easy problem to solve.
"A ridiculous lie only someone with his head up his ass could
believe."
“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years. But the fact that they don’t seem to learn anything–knowledge wise or in terms of critical thinking–may be consistent with the hypothesis that they’re just not that bright.
And when have you fucking cared about letting people make decisions for themselves?
When they started making decisions for themselves to kill hundreds of thousands of people because masks are for fags.
Yeah, your magical mask totems are worked smashingly in the deep blue havens of New York, New Jersey, and California.
Meanwhile, the rednecks in the Dakotas are back down to low case numbers, AND they're distributing vaccines more efficiently than WeFuckingLoveScience! Land. How does it feel to know that your faggot urbanite galaxy brains are dumber than the guys that do their plumbing?
Data that supports your worldview is true, data that doesn’t is false. Yeah I’ve heard religious nuts talk before.
No, shitlib, data is data. How does it feel knowing that a bunch of flyover state hillbillies are smarter than you?
Sorry, what did they do that was smart? Forgo the complications of the normal dating scene since there’s a perfectly fine cousin they already know? And she’s barely even buck-toothed, like they say?
It's so precious that Tony thinks they can control viruses and disease.
We can control them. We do it all the time. Not Republicans and other incompetents, but we as a species.
We did all the lockdowns and shit and all of those people still died. Same thing in countries who you think "did it right". It was never a cure for anything.
Most of asia and Oceania would like to have a word with you.
I don't think lockdowns can explain the difference there. Lots of places in Europe had much harsher policies and had much worse outcomes. Some places like Japan never really had anything we'd call a lockdown and still did very well. There are other factors driving the differences between countries.
In another decade someone will finally do the research that gives us better answers. I suspect for Asia it is a combination of overall health of population + incredibly strict quarantine for people entering the country + intensive contract tracing.
Unless we're talking China in which case the answer is 'made up statistics.
Pre-existing immunity seems like a likely factor too. I've seen some things about serological studies in Japan where they found that close to 50% of the young people they were periodically testing ended up having antibodies. So it does appear to have spread a lot there, it just isn't making a lot of people sick.
Back around the beginning of this, a European researcher predicted that there was more immunity out there than we thought due to similarity to SARS, which did hit Asia harder than Europe and America.
Please explain CA and NY.
Nah, don't bother; you've already hit your bullshit limit for today. Just fuck off.

The countries that don't count covid as the cause of death unless death was caused due to respiratory issues?
Nobody said it was a cure, just that it would prevent death.
Try reading even science that doesn’t tell you what you want to hear. And other lessons from 2nd grade.
"Nobody said it was a cure, just that it would prevent death."
And the evidence that it prevented death is not favorable.
Tony also thinks government cured poverty.
They declared war on. Anything the government declares war on is instantly "cured." Poverty, drugs, terror, you name it. All shining successes.
We have an entire planet full of countries to compare methods and outcomes among.
We tried Sweden’s way, and Sweden is now trying something else. So let’s keep trying Sweden’s way, at least.
Tony: "We can’t cure a disease, people will lose jobs!"
Or perhaps that was supposed to be two separate statements.
Always. Cheap energy has lifted more out of poverty than any democrat program in history. You're against it. You want to kill people in poverty with your GND initiatives and higher energy costs.
You are such a poodle.
The only way we can have freedom is to give oil companies more trillions of dollars for a product they don’t even have to submit to market competition!

You and TDS-addled lefty shits have done nothing other than provide violent hate for the past four years.
Fuck off and die, you steaming pile of lefty shit.
LOL. You are still guarding the world from TDS.
Dude, the war is over. Hang up your Soldier for Trump uniform and go home.
If only the media had treated Trump like that. Imagine the unity after four years.
You’ve got to give me something to work with man.
Just how did they portray Trump on rightwing media? Did he actually have abs and a full head of natural hair or what?
I thought CNN wasn't biased.
They don't do a good job pretending, do they?
Everyone with half a brain is biased against Trump because he hasn’t once demonstrated a capacity for compassion, intelligence, or truth-telling.
You people put the worst possible human in that job. Just think about it for a goddamn minute.
The Republican Party is a dead ideology, but it’s on free taxpayer funded life support thanks to all the shitfucking they’ve done to democracy.
That is why it’s so dangerous, like any zombie. And it eats brains. They’re not going to get any smarter. They’re just going to decide Trump lost because he’s too intellectual.
It’s not their dislike of Trump I’m pointing out here.
It’s the messianic treatment of the democrat president.
Someone needs to remind CNN about the separation of church and state.
CNN’s David Chalian says that the side lights on the National Mall’s reflecting pool are like “extensions of Joe Biden’s arms embracing America.”...

Decent read. Too little racism for the biden cultists.
Get it while you can.
Too late. It's gone.
You are grown adult men who need to be reassured that Washington really did have a cherry tree in order for you not to feel bad. That is actually what you and your little cult think is the real problem in this world, symbolism from your childhood.
Normal adults grow out of needing Santa Claus and his various iterations.
Cultures die all the time for less arrested development. I’m frankly tired of paying taxes propping yours up.
"Normal adults grow out of needing Santa Claus and his various iterations."
Some of us grow up enough to take responsibility for our lives, too. Lefty shits, OTOH, rely on the government as a mommy substitute.
Woof, the projection here can be seen from Pluto.
What do you mean? You don’t like paying the price of civilization?
I hate throwing good money after bad. And you claim to not even want it anyway (until anyone talks about taking one single cent of it away).
For someone who loves the concept of taxes, it's funny to listen to you bitch about how they're being spent. I thought that was the point: we all don't get to choose how our taxes are spent. That's called "civilization and society." Or some lofty excuse to do whatever it is that you don't like now.
Money is a fiction we tell ourselves. So are taxes. So is virtue.
You can say wealth is the same as virtue. You’re not wrong, because virtue is a fiction we tell ourselves. But you’re not right either, so I don’t care what you believe, I think you should pay more taxes, because it tickles me.
Beliefs are for suckers. Especially this shit.
Whatever, you huge walking performance contradiction.
...so I don’t care what you believe...
So why the 400 daily posts on this site?
Well we at least know one Biden cultist who didn't read it.

Two NYT editors lost their jobs in the Summer because they published an op-ed by a US Senator advocating a measure roughly 50% of Americans supported: deploy troops to quell unrest.
Now, Washington, DC is fully militarized with troops and everyone seems perfectly happy about it.

Media members who once denounced the deployment of military force to American streets as the rawest incarnation of violent fascism have now joined together to cheer the military occupation of Washington, DC
Amazing.
To be fair though, we don't know how many NYT staffers feel that their physical safety is threatened. They may be writing a group statement at this very moment.
What is the average emotional age of NYT staffers? If we knew that, we could answer your question.
What is the average emotional age of NYT staffers?
Five? That may be too high.

Wow, you can spin anything to fit your alt-right world view.
Wow, you can make an ass of yourself over anything.
Stores are dropping MyPillow products over the CEO's ongoing promotion of 2020 election fraud conspiracies.
Is MyPillow's product as good as Chick-fil-A's? Otherwise, might as well smother your company with it.
A lot of people say that MyPillows are awful.
So what?
A lot of people are too dumb to follow directions on how to use a fucking pillow. The thing works great.
Oh my god you let your cultural tribal affiliation to a fucking orange clown dictate which pillow you bought. I am cringing so hard.
It was a fairly popular product before the guy got much attention for his politics.
"...a fucking orange clown..."
TDS-addled lefty shit spend half their lives inventing nick-names that embarrass 1st grade kids.
Tony is a fucking pillow-Nazi now?
I bought the pillow years ago at Costco knowing nothing about the company. I only know who this guy is because he was invited to the White House this year. Are we going to get SWATted? Do I need to get the kids out of the house?
I did eat at Chick-Fil-A twice last year, but I SWEAR TO GOD, I have never shopped at a Hobby Lobby. PLEASE, don't let them shoot my dog. He is just little guy, although he does like to bark. I am sure you would like him. You could probably train him to lick a human butthole, he sure likes his own...
Why not he's an actual Nazi in the nationalist socialist sence
I spent many hours at Hobby Lobby in my youth, and I’d go there again if I ever needed an art or a craft. I’m not one for making political statements to myself. Seems masturbatory. If I had a group of art and craft friends, maybe we’d do a boycott, but there are a lot of fucking Christians around who do needlepoint and such.

Yeah, well, I'd rather have new coronavirus variants than restrictions on international travel. (Restrictions on travel within the US are, of course, acceptable.)

26,000 soldiers in the capital on inauguration day and the public is disinvited. Who exactly is the enemy that requires this kind of show of force and political intimidation?
There are 74 million of them.
Yes, it's very, very sad that one of our major parties decided to radicalize their voters with the biggest lie in American politics since the last time their party had the presidency (WMD).
It's very sad that there are many people in this country who think that their feelings are as valid as facts and knowledge, and that those feelings entitle them to do violence.
...and along comes DOL to skullfuck the corpse of American freedom.
Like feelings that George Floyd was murdered?
BLM did nothing wrong, because there was the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.
Or is Trumper logic more specifically about Trumpers never taking responsibility for anything they do or believe?
Why is it impossible to tell the difference between a Trumper and the worst baby?
"..Or is Trumper logic more specifically about Trumpers never taking responsibility for anything they do or believe?.."
Try, shitstain, really try. At least once post something which at least contains a bit of truthyness.
That is a two edged sword. The facts did not support the BLM Movement's justification for what they did, it was a feelings based response that caused a lot more damage to this country than what happened on Jan 6. Just because the Democrats were spooked by a riot directed at them rather than private businesses all of a sudden the tune changes on shows of military force against the populace.
BLM did not do anything. BLM is a movement. Some assholes burned buildings in the vicinity of their marches, some Proud Boy assholes too, as it happens. With a total body count of less than the insurrection attempt, and not a single insurrection.
You are making a racist argument full of lies. People believing this shit is why they think they have to murder democracy.
With a total body count of less than the insurrection attempt, and not a single insurrection.
Woof. That's a flat-out lie there. At least 19 people died in the BLM riots last year, and the count was probably higher since Antifa and BLM are not known for working with police to solve murders caused by their own.
They’re also not know to commit violence unless the police start assaulting them first.
You think the cops would just welcome into the Senate chamber for a personal guided tour of the place where they intended to murder the Vice President?
Because I think we should talk about things that matter instead of things that don’t matter.
You’ll see soon enough. They’re going to turn off the spigot. No more FOX News lies dominating everyone’s day. Sorry, they simply have no choice.
Remember when actual fascists stormed the capitol during the Kavanaugh hearings? And by fascists I mean people who think the Gov should use force against companies to achieve political goals
That’s not what fascist means, but I’ll grant you it’s an overused word. Just stick with me and you’ll pick up on correct usage in no time.
Don't be so harsh on BLM.
Yes, it’s very, very sad that one of our major parties decided to radicalize their voters with the biggest lie in American politics since the last time their party had the presidency (WMD).

You mean, "The Russians did this"?
You’d think you idiots would take the offer to blame Russia for what you did.
Trust me, if I thought it was actually that easy to trick Democratic operatives with a simple phishing email, I'd be spilling a lot more than what Podesta gave up.
I just think it’s funny how the same people who conspire with Russia to hurt America, essentially for spite, because God knows you have no policy ideas, those same people used to lecture everyone else about morality and personal responsibility.
Who was the first to turn traitor the moment it gave them a tiny bit of perceived cultural power?
You’ve been rotten since the start. It a single good idea in a hundred years. And all of the bad ones.
Gosh, perhaps something happened recently that led up to this overkill security.
Yeah, some cop murdered an un-armed young woman.
Say her name!
You finally care about cops killing unarmed people when the victim is an actual terrorist trying to destroy your way of life.
Maybe I need to reconsider the idea that your culture is doomed, and it did it to itself. Nah, seems right still.
The question that I have, did what happened actually justify this overkill response and overwhelming acceptance by the usual suspects that it is appropriate and not a sign of incipient fascism and dictatorship? Especially when compared to similar calls for law and order over the much more violent and destructive riots over the last year.
The BLM riots? The ones that caused 30 deaths and 2 billion in damage?
Do you care about putting down chaos or not? Because the sense I’m getting is that you just care about putting down black people.

"I’m leading the call for national security powers to not be expanded in light of the attack on our nation’s Capitol that occurred two weeks ago, as such measures often lead to the erosion of Americans’ civil liberties."
----Rashida Tlaib
The chances of anyone in the Democratic party listening to this "call" not to treat average Republicans like terrorists are practically zero--at least until after Biden's first 100 days and the Democrats' agenda is in place.
Meanwhile, we'll see where she is treating average Republicans like terrorists after they've reacted to all the horrifying legislation she and her fellow Democrats inflict on us in the coming weeks.
The Capitol riot may look like a picnic three months from now.
I just looked up in the sky to see if pigs were flying, because I agreed with Rashida Tlaib.
Yeah, that was quite a gut punch to start the day.
Broken clocks, twice a day . . .
That makes them right hundreds of times more frequently than Rashida Tlaib.
Intellectual honesty requires us to acknowledge when our enemies are right about something. George Orwell was a committed socialist. He was also right about the totalitarian nature of communism. Why should we disagree with him when he's right?
If Hitler was good to his grandmother, we should acknowledge that fact--and then condemn him for all the reasons why he was wrong on policy, intent, etc., etc.
Actually, once a digital clock is broken, it's broke for good. And if a sundial is broken, you have far worse problems to worry about than policy or the time.
“I’m leading the call for national security powers to not be expanded in light of the attack on our nation’s Capitol that occurred two weeks ago, as such measures often lead to the erosion of Americans’ civil liberties.”
—-Rashida Tlaib
It costs her nothing politically to claim this. She already knows there's enough votes to pass any measures they want to. This is nothing more than symbolic posturing.
The Muslim community suffered a tremendous amount of suspicion, undue discrimination, and surveillance, etc., etc. during the War on Terror. If that's what it takes to make someone sensitive to this kind of thing, that's nothing to brag about. Plenty of people, who've never been subjected to surveillance and demonization oppose unduly subjecting others to that--without ever having suffered such a thing themselves. Those people are also worthy of our respect.
Opposing rape shouldn't require any experience as a rape victim. Where's Rashida Tlaib on respecting the rights and liberties of people she hates? That's what libertarians do. We urge society to respect the rights of people we hate--from free speech for Nazis and gun rights for communists to not torturing terrorists.
There is something fundamentally libertarian about this:
"You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."
----Matthew 5:43-48
Libertarians certainly respect the rights of people we hate.
There's also something fundamentally libertarian about how whenever the Bible needs a generic bad guy they use the tax collector as the example.
+1
LMAO! Being a Libertarian and a Christian, I'm surprised I never picked up on that. I'm using this moving forward.

Judas Iscariot was the first progressive:
John 12: Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[b]” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

But are we really so safe? In June, the great Russian literature professor Gary Saul Morson told The Wall Street Journal that America was starting to feel eerily familiar. “It’s astonishingly like late 19th-, early 20th-century Russia, when basically the entire educated class felt you simply had to be against the regime or some sort of revolutionary,” he said. Even the moderate Kadet Party could not bring itself to condemn terrorism against the czar, any more than a modern Democrat could condemn Black Lives Matter: “A famous line from one of the liberal leaders put it this way: ‘Condemn terrorism? That would be the moral death of the party.’”
...The weather made the Russian Revolution as much as any other factor. The winter of 1916-17 was one of the coldest on record, forcing St. Petersburg into semi-lockdown. Spring finally broke on March 7, which happened to be International Women’s Day. People swarmed the streets to enjoy temperatures near 50 degrees and, incidentally, boosted the socialist protest’s numbers. The tsar’s abdication came exactly one week later.
That was the first revolution, when the Romanov dynasty was replaced by the short-lived Provisional Government. The second revolution, which installed the Bolsheviks, was enabled by another problem familiar to modern readers: street crime. The new regime rushed to establish its progressive bona fides by passing the full wish list of liberal demands: amnesty for political prisoners, abolition of flogging, unlimited freedom of the press and assembly. They were less energetic about reestablishing basic law and order. Previously safe neighborhoods of St. Petersburg became lawless, and by July mob lynchings of petty criminals had become an almost daily occurrence. Citizens organized to protect themselves after the Provisional Government proved it wouldn’t or couldn’t. After that, the Cheka’s policy of shooting criminals on sight came almost as a relief.
...These were some of the incidental factors, the kindling that captured the sparks. To launch a real revolution, however, more than kindling is needed. The fire must have fuel. In that sense, the deeper cause of the revolution was not the men with nothing to do but the men who had important things to do but failed to do them: the liberal elite.Russia could have been saved by means of reform short of revolution, but the people who should have tried to accomplish that balancing act lacked any investment in the existing order. Instead they gave their moral support to violent terrorists. It was this moral error that brought Lenin to power—and it is the error that Professor Morson finds so familiar today.

For months, Republicans have used last summer’s protests as a political catchall, highlighting isolated instances of property destruction and calls to defund the police to motivate their base in November. The tactic proved somewhat effective on Election Day: Democrats lost ground in the House of Representatives, with Republican challengers hammering a message of liberal lawlessness.

Flashback: New Video Emerges Of Riots at Trump’s 2017 Inauguration
https://legalinsurrection.com/2021/01/flashback-new-video-emerges-of-riots-at-trumps-2017-inauguration/
The shocking footage exposes a coordinated attack on the 2017 inauguration of President Donald Trump. Highlights include anarchists preparing for violent clashes with police (10:22), violent attacks on attendees (2:08), destruction of property (9:50), and the physical premeditated blockades that succeed in preventing voters from attending the Presidential Inauguration (3:29).
Additional highlights include interviews with blockade organizers Code Pink and Disrupt J20, whose stated goal was to “shut this inauguration down.” Code Pink organizer Tighe Barry is asked, “Are you guys going to cause some mayhem?” His response is an emphatic “Yes sir!” (3:56) He adds, “We blocked this street because we feel like we have the right to tell them not to come into our city.” (4:27)
J20 organizer is quoted saying, “These people should be referred to as neo-nazis, as fascist, as the legitimate scum they are, so they can be wiped from this country!” (1:48) Black Trump supporters are seen being called “Uncle Toms!” while also having their Trump hats snatched off their heads. (10:51)
Producers of the documentary explained their decision to release this footage now, “It was never our intent to release any footage while we’re still in production. We have held this dramatic content for 4 years in anticipation of its final release in the completed film, however, recent events have convinced us of the imperative to release this excerpt now.”

The worldwide movement toward "limited authoritarianism," already well under way but dramatically accelerated by the coronavirus, is driven by the elite consensus that ordinary people cannot be trusted with so much freedom.
This is a natural consequence of the progressive ideology, which is inherently authoritarian, although it peddles itself in the early stage with lots of jibber-jabber freedom and liberty. Progressives by definition believe that the growth of the State can never be reversed.
Every time the State grows - taking more money from the private sector, issuing regulations, criminalizing activities that used to be free - it is declaring that the people can no longer be trusted to make certain decisions. This is the inescapable logic of statism.
...The best way to get people to go along with this constant dwindling of their liberty is to make them distrust and fear each other. That way, the State can posture as their loving defenders, keeping them safe from the predations of other free people.
As we move into the era of limited authoritarianism, the previous steady erosion of liberties and theft of money is no longer disguised with gentle maternal language. Now it's time to firmly establish a hard core of power that voters must obey, and can never dream of controlling.
The next steps toward authoritarianism simply can't be disguised as loving, maternal government taking good care of its child-citizens. It requires a level of obedience - the most important resource in a statist system - that simply cannot abide resistance, or even dissent.
...The emerging consensus among the global elite is that "democracy" can only be saved by sharply limiting it. Our mighty global institutions and their accords cannot be subjected to the will of selfish, short-sighted, foolish, voters with nationalistic inclinations.
...The Western world generally has constitutional restrictions on how vigorously the State can suppress dissent, or how much behavior it can compel, because it is still required to pretend the people get to vote on everything and are supreme over their government.
"Limited authoritarianism" gets around this by using corporate power and political activists as instruments of control and obedience. The State has powerful partners in the private sector who will enforce decrees that could not be issued lawfully.
How long until this guy is banned?

Are you saying the Biden administration will result in new Jim Crow laws when his successor takes over? BLM seems pretty intent on restoring segregation.
Last night, Kennedy said that Mitch McConnell threatened Trump (this week) with a conviction in an Senate impeachment trial (that would almost certainly violate the US Constitution) if Trump pardoned Assange, Snowden, or Ulbricht.
And if ENB actually believed that Assange, Snowden and Ulbricht should have been pardoned, she wouldn't have demonized or lied about Trump for the past four years, and she would never have campaigned for Biden.
LOL watch them convict him anyway. What a cuck.
Has anyone commented on the news of the National Guard vetting troops for their political beliefs?
There was enthusiastic coverage on the morning news shows today. Apparently it shows that there are dangerous seditious elements in the military that must be excised for our safety.
I have never heard of such a thing. And now suddenly this is not only applauded, it is uncontroversial.
Strange times.
When you have a coup d'etat, the military has to be purged.
You know who else purged his country's military for not pledging personal loyalty to him?
Recep Tayyip Erdogan?
The CEO of Phillips?
Xerxes?
Stalin.
Obama purged several generals.

Imagining an alternate universe where Trump ordered a massive, unprecedented military occupation of Washington, DC in order to quell protest ahead of his Second Inauguration. I'm sure the media would've just sat back and meekly accepted it
Someone sent me a clip of Tucker Carlson the other night. He mentions the Koch support of Reason and attacks the lack of libertarian principle in the age of trump.
He pretty much seems to be making the same argument the left does, that the guy who pays the piper calls the tune. And the billionaire class likes the establishment politician.
Seemed odd... I didn't know this place was on the conservative radar.
Yeah, I didn't think this place on anyone's radar but libertarians are everyone's favorite whipping boy, so who knows.
The place is at least obvious in its processes to everyone who has them on their radar.
Biden gives DOJ green light to resume Obama-era 'slush fund' payouts to liberal groups
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-doj-obama-era-slush-fund-payouts-liberal-groups
President-elect Joe Biden is calling for the Justice Department to look into reinstating a controversial Obama-era practice that allowed prosecutors to make settlement agreements that resulted in defendants paying outside groups instead of victims or the government.
This would be a huge story for most Libertarians. Let's put odds on it being brought up here.
I don't see how that could be corrupted or abused at all. Swamp business as normal.
"Tell you what, if you write a check for $10,000 to this pro-Biden PAC, we'll agree to drop the charges."
How it happened in practice was, "Pay .Gov 100,000 in fines, or get 2 for 1 credit for making a donation to X favored political group." Legal, when you have Hawaii Judge overseeing it.
No surprise at all that Biden plans on bringing that back.

They’re holding the Senate trial for after Trump leaves office hoping it will be leverage on him to not pardon Assange, Snowden, and Ulbricht
Don’t see the need to pardon Assange as I don’t believe he violated any US laws, so let them extradite him. Any competent lawyer would get the charges dropped. As to Snowden, though you might like the results there is no doubt he broke federal law. As to Ulbricht I don’t think most Republican would care that much. My guess is it was more about not pardoning the protesters that breached the capital.

In approximately 18 hours, for the first time in history we’ll have a Vice President of the United States who believes the President is a rapist.
I've lived in the DC area my entire life and I have to say that the optics of this inauguration are legitimately one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in my entire life. It's like something out of a dystopian movie or you'd see in a third world country. I can’t understand how they aren’t even going to have a crowd of like 100,000 socially distant people on the mall that’s nothing it’s leading me to believe they can’t even get close to that number to show up which is strange seeing how Biden just received the most popular support of anyone in the history of the country by large margins. It's so fucking creepy.
I love needing 20+K troops to protect Biden from Viking Horn Guy, but keeping the troops from having actual bullets in their guns to protect Biden from the troops.
Totes the most popular POTUS evah.
And if they are so damned worried, why not do it inside a secure building? Gotta put on a show to show everyone how in charge they are.
New copypasta, July 2020, DNC headquarters:
“Hey everyone, we’ll fight this election on the up and up, but just for shits and giggles, how can we look like we stole the upcoming election and staged a coup?”
“Have the legacy and social media blatantly collude to suppress negative stories about our candidate? We'll even awkwardly block newspapers who dare report those stories using our social media allies”
“I know, have our guys lock the observers out of the polling places”
“let have our legacy and social media guys clumsily sanction anyone who questions the results”
“Let’s do one better and shut down websites that still allow people to talk about it”
“I know, lets publicly call for reeducation camps and investigations on anyone who voted for our opponents”
“And if anyone protests lets call them “insurrectionists”, and throw the entire state machine against them”
“And then let’s declare a war on terror but against our own citizens”
“Yeah, and then at the inauguration we can fill DC with razor wire and troops”
"And after the inauguration let's impeach Trump again over any protests, to further legitimize our "War on Insurrection""
"Yeah, but what if Trump told them to protest peacefully and patriotically, or something, and the protesters were unarmed?"
"Who cares, we'll do it anyway! Remember, we're trying to make it look exactly like a coup"
“You think anyone will complain? What about that libertarian magazine?”
“Nah, they’ll be cool with it. Maybe just a little tut-tutting, but nothing serious. They're one of ours”

Germany is building camps to house COVID-dissidents.
Germany is getting tougher policing its quarantine in the country- so much so, it deemed it necessary to threaten violators with a short stint in special Covid jail. It is understood the facility will be based in Dresden, local police authorities have confirmed.
A spokesperson said access to the ‘pandemic hotel’ pictured here won’t be that easy – you need to get a warning and a fine first. It’ll be up to a court to decide if you qualify for a stay. “We don’t assume that there will be very many, but in the event that a court decides that way, there will be a facility to accommodate them,” said the spokesperson.
"You can take the German people out of the Nazi party, but..."

Apparently Senate REPUBLICANS are threatening to impeach President Trump if he pardons Julian Assange.
This should tell you everything you need to know about our political party -- they only care about power and control.
Of by and for the career politicians.
As I previously posted, Kennedy said (last night on her show) that Mitch McConnell had threatened Trump with a Senate trial conviction if Trump pardoned Assange, Snowden or Ulbricht.
So they are threatening to convict him on one charge for doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with that charge. That is not how this is supposed to work.
"...That is not how this is supposed to work..."
Pretty common the last four years.
Senators cannot impeach a president. Impeachment originates in the House. They can convict based on impeachment charges the House gives them, but impeachment itself is not their job.
"It's my last day. Convict me, bitch."
By nominating sexually confused Richard/Rachel Levine to be Assistant Secretary of Health, Biden is not only promoting the mental health pandemic of the 21st century (i.e. transgenderism), but is also signaling that this will be a very Dark Winter indeed.
Since March, Levine has lied about covid daily since March, imposed a unscientific, unconstitutional and economically disastrous shutdown of most businesses in PA (that were/are owned by Republicans), forced nursing home to accept covid patients (where most of PA covid deaths occurred) while removing his/her/its own mother from a nursing home (to protect her from covid), and imposed unscientific totalitarian mask mandates.
US Senators should block Levine's nomination.
Why would a democrat-controlled senate block the nomination of someone who so completely personifies the democratic party platform?
If just one Democrat Senator votes against Levine, the nomination will be rejected (as the GOP will likely be unified against Levine's lockdowns, lies and hypocritical removal of his/her/its mother from a nursing home after requiring all nursing homes to accept covid patients).
I suspect Joe Manchin and/or Jon Tester won't want to piss of all the freedom loving deplorables back home in West Virginia and Montana.
If Levine isn't rejected by the Senate, its not just going to be a Dark Winter, but a very Dark next two years.
"I suspect Joe Manchin and/or Jon Tester won’t want to piss of all the freedom loving deplorables back home in West Virginia and Montana.

I guess we'll both have our answers rather quickly about the steadfastness of the Senate. I hope you're right. I suspect you're wrong, and that The Dark will be longer than two years.
I think a big problem of the 21st century is unaccountable man-children who drag the culturally mature of us down to wallow in their whiny self-absorbed nonsense, but that’s no different from any other century.
“Real men are the ones who are most prissy and squeamish.” Didn’t compute when you were whining about gays in the military, doesn’t compute now.
Shorter Tony: Real men can take it in the ass without flinching. Oorah!
Only if they aren’t also whining about some minor cultural expectations mismatch like a pussy.
In some universe, I'm guessing that makes sense. Drinking a bit early today, shitstain.

As for Officer Brian Sicknick, the Capitol policeman and a demonstrated patriot/vet who died soon after the mini-riot, we have no autopsy report and no specific cause of death yet. The family has stated he died from injuries sustained on duty, which if accurate would seem to exclude medical conditions. This is all we know right now. If the implication that someone hurt him is correct, that is shameful. But lawyering for decades has taught me you need to gather all the evidence, dispassionately, before you can be sure of the facts. We need to know the truth, at a minimum to hold anyone who committed a crime accountable, including any misguided individual who might share some of our very general views. No significant number of the 74 million who voted for Trump got in it to hurt cops.
I counsel prudence and a rigorous search for truth, wherever it leads, but the lack of hard facts has not stopped the left and their lackies laying his death at our feet. We hear rumors of Officer Sicknick being hit with a fire extinguisher, and there is video of some idiot hurling one at the cops, but the lack of hard facts raises questions. It’s been a while – if there were facts that showed he was murdered rather than passed away from another cause, you would expect them to come out. It does not mean they don’t exist. It just means that for the first time in memory a story that the bad faith media could spin against Trump was kept, properly, confidential until the investigation was complete.
It is unclear whether Officer Sicknick was the officer struck in that fire extinguisher video, and it appears from the sketchy facts that he collapsed at some point after the fracas. We still don’t know what happened. Was it a traumatic brain injury? Did he have a preexisting condition? All we have is a general statement. Right now, we really do not know what happened. Causation is still a thing even if the media and the pols want to skip over it.
They're trying frantically to turn him into a Horst Wessel, but it's not going to work. Particularly because Sicknick supported Trump.

What this suggests is the horrifying possibility that Covid simply killed those who were going to die anyway, and most of the excess death was from Covid panic, and not Covid.

What do the scientists say? Not precisely what you want to hear, so they’re safely ignored? Do you even know how facts and thinking work?
It’s a respiratory virus. It’s spread by people breathing on each other.
No, that’s not the only problem in the world. Just one of the many made worse by Donald Trump.
Not even addressing the point being made.
"What do the scientists say? Not precisely what you want to hear, so they’re safely ignored? Do you even know how facts and thinking work?.."

See any one of Tony's fevered dream posts.
By urging half the country to think masks are for fags, then throwing rallies all over the county after personally infecting half the government?
California, New York, and New Jersey is half the government?
Why did your magical mask totems fail while the Dakota rednecks are doing so well, and kicking your ass in vaccine distribution to boot? Don't you Democrats Fucking Love Science? Why can't you distribute a simple vaccine--too worried some white male plumber will get it before the African Nationalist Studies professor? No wonder blue states have fucked things up so badly.
Trying to magical think the virus away instead of caring about fixing it?
Yes, thinking a piece of cloth will prevent community spread of a billion-year-old organism certainly is magical thinking.
Good to see those rednecks in flyover country, using real, actual experience and science, are doing so much better than their blue-state yahoo Scientism cultists.
It is a brand new organism...
But you already know everything about it, how clever.
...It’s spread by people breathing on each other.
No, that’s not the only problem in the world. Just one of the many made worse by Donald Trump.
You're right Tony. In the name of Donald Trump and for the health of others, you should stop breathing now.
What do the scientists say?
The fact that you treat these people as prophets who are never wrong shows the depth that Scientism has become a faith system.
You do realize that "the scientists" are a collection of individuals who often disagree about things?
Therefore... you get to believe whatever you want?
These lies kill and have killed. You don’t have a right to those kind of lies.
you get to believe whatever you want?
um...yes?
Fine but it’s traditional to have logical reasons for anyone else to agree with you. If you’re just jerking off to Japanese cartoons in your basement all day, it’s not really relevant what you believe.
I don’t suppose you have any plans to impose your nonsense beliefs on literally the entire country?
the scientists
Not just any scientists, mind you.
The fact that you people think “because I want to believe” is equivalent in value to “because science says so” is why you’re a rapidly dying ideology.
It’s just Darwinian selection. If you’re actually so stupid you have a revolution but with absolutely no hope whatsoever of succeeding, you get to become ashes now. It’s happened many times before. Only usually they actually have a plan and don’t just poke the legislators with a spoon a little and demand they get their way. I mean, nobody’s ever been as stupid as that.
As long as polititions take their elder parents out of nursing homes while forcing others to stay, we're all good. It reminds me of flint Michigan where the state local epa, and the citi council brought in bottled water while telling residences the water was fine.

How's Biden and the media going to squirm out of this with their Chinese overlords?
Nice, that's how to give the finger to the next administration.
They'll refuse to talk about it, and then label anyone who does want to talk about it as a racist/conspiracy theorist/foreign asset.
How’s Biden and the media going to squirm out of this with their Chinese overlords?
The same way they address any other inconvenient truth, but ignoring it.
The Chinese will ignore it entirely? Biden will have delivered, a trussed Trump and Pompeo to Beijing on a DoD jet?
Let me know when Washington does something about Chinese trade beyond talking about it. If Biden institutes severe tariffs, beyond those existing in China against American goods. If China loses MFN status. Or their USPS subsidy.
If that were to happen.... You thought this place's writers hated Trump, you've seen nothing yet.
Another social media free speech haven, Wimkin, has been banished from both Apple's and Google's app stores.
“We don’t allow apps that depict or facilitate gratuitous violence or other dangerous activities,” the Google spokesman said.
. . . .
Apple suspended the roughly 300,000-user Wimkin from its App Store last week over such posts, according to Wimkin Founder Jason Sheppard and records of his correspondence with Apple viewed by the Wall Street Journal. Apple’s correspondence cited posts urging users to start a civil war and arrest Vice President Mike Pence, which Wimkin’s content moderators removed.
. . . .
Last week, Google warned it might take similar action, highlighting in an email to Mr. Sheppard viewed by the Journal that “we don’t allow apps that contain false or misleading information,” . . .
Mr. Sheppard said he is updating Wimkin’s policies and tools in an attempt to comply with Google and Apple standards. The site’s rules prohibit pornography and incitement to violence, he said in an interview last week, but its moderators don’t fact-check.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/google-play-suspends-wimkin-citing-posts-calling-for-violence-11611108309?
I bolded some areas:
1) Gratuitous violence is common in games.
2) Fact checking user posts is now mandatory as a condition for being on Google's app store?!
I want to know if any of these apps being banned or Apple's or Google's actions in any way are taking place at the explicit request or direction of anyone in government or anyone officially in the Democratic party.
Last week, Google warned it might take similar action, highlighting in an email to Mr. Sheppard viewed by the Journal that “we don’t allow apps that contain false or misleading information,” . . .
Yet Google allows itself. This is the scariest fucking thing going on right now. Gonna have to find a publication that actually cares about this shit.
Apple and Google are just destroying any platform for dissent and bragging about it!
At the very least, this is the result of the antitrust actions pending against them, and logic suggests it's more than that.
The antitrust complaint against Google targets the unfair way Google uses its app store. If this were just about Google being afraid of what the Democrats will do to them with antitrust, they would avoid arbitrarily using their app store this way. They're doing exactly what the antitrust case accuses them of doing!
Doesn't that suggest that someone, somewhere might be telling them to do this?
Maybe the FBI is monitoring these apps or something. The FBI is part of the same Justice Department that's pursuing antitrust against social media companies along with the FTC. Honestly, given the FBI's anti-domestic terror mandate, if they aren't monitoring the activity in these apps, they aren't doing their job.
Whether their job should be that is another question entirely, of course, but I want to know if the Justice Department, the FBI, the NSA, or anyone else in the government or the Democratic party is telling Apple and Google to expel these apps.
They wouldn't keep creating more examples of collusion and using their monopoly status amid an ongoing antitrust action under normal circumstances.
When Gates was facing an antitrust action, he personally gave Apple hundreds of millions of dollars they couldn't get anywhere else at the time--just to keep them afloat so he could tell the judge in the antitrust case that he had a significant competitor. He wouldn't have openly rigged Internet Explorer so that it wouldn't open Apple's website, and that's basically what Google is doing all over the place right now.
The content your users are writing in comments is inaccurate?!
Who's buying that excuse?
Nobody.
But that's not going to stop our in-house fascists from parroting it.
So the free markets solves all things except social media platforms? I've been alive long enough to hear pitchforks and torches mobs decry all kinds of market concentrations. Long story short, the only way to sustain a monopoly or duopoly is with government support. That's why cable television still sucks, government franchising. It always starts with some noble, idealistic bs about how the government needs to protect the market and "the little guy" and yet it always ends in rent seeking.
If Google is doing this because they're afraid of what the government will do to them with their antitrust case, that isn't an excellent example of the free market at work.
If Google is doing this because they've been explicitly told to do so by the FBI, the Justice Department, or because they've been explicitly threatened by the Democrats who control the government, that isn't an excellent example of free markets either.
Meanwhile, if Apple and Google are coordinating their deplatforming activity, that isn't an excellent example of free markets. The legitimate purpose of government is to protect our rights, and that means they need to protect our rights from private parties, as well.
“People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices…. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies, much less to render them necessary.”
----Adam Smith
https://lpmaryland.org/liberty-quotation-adam-smith-collusion/
The First Amendment doesn't justify Apple or Google violating someone's rights with their freedom of association any more than the Second Amendment justifies violating someone's rights with a gun.
I'm not saying I have the answers to all the pertinent questions here, but I am saying that there are some questions that need to be answered.
No questions for a libertarian. If you can’t handle corporate freedom and private property rights when it mildly annoys you once, maybe you’ll understand how solipsistic your worldview has always been.
Maybe you even feel bad for lecturing anyone else for suggesting government intervention to solve their actual problems.
Your response (or lack thereof) shows you to be the idiot we already knew you to be.
He never even addresses the crux of the argument, he just throws out a handful of prog platitudes and thinks he's made a rebuttal.
And how he thinks your arguments were solipsistic is anyone's guess. I suspect he was using the word for grandiloquent purposes.
I understand why you think you believe what you think you believe.
It will hurt a while. Having your worldview revealed to be a string of not just lies but coordinated lies, that must be very difficult for you. But anyone can get over anything. It takes three days to quit smoking or drinking. It takes at most a year to get over a dead loved one. This will pass.
You got your toys taken away from you because you were using them to hurt America. You’re in so much luck though. America is incredibly merciful to white people, and the biggest softie in the world is now president. I’m sure you won’t even be charged with treason, let alone go to prison for it.
Jose Ortega y Gasset,
Are you unaware that the Democrats have repeatedly threatened to break up Google and other social media companies?
"WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic lawmakers are calling for Congress to rein in Big Tech, possibly forcing Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple to break up their businesses, while making it harder for them to acquire others and imposing new rules to safeguard competition.
The proposals in a report issued Tuesday follow a 15-month investigation by a House Judiciary Committee panel into the companies’ market dominance.
Those kinds of forced breakups through a legislative overhaul would be a radical step for Congress to take toward a powerful industry. The tech giants for decades have enjoyed light-touch regulation and star status in Washington, but have come under intensifying scrutiny and derision over issues of competition, consumer privacy and hate speech.
The 450-page report offers Congress a possible roadmap for action, potentially with a new balance of political power in Congress and a new president next year. Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden has said that company breakups should be considered."

Groundhog Day this thing? I can see it now, Trump with a bushy mustache advocating for intervention to eliminate 'cripples and retards' and promoting his Reasoned Repopulation program to insure that immigrants don't breed out of control.
You've got him beat.
Stuff your TDS up your ass; your head wants some company.
cry more
It's going to be just another sad third party trying to get onto ballots and getting nowhere. Unless it won't be a real party and it'll just be Tea Party 2, it'll be a complete joke and detrimental to any cause you might care about.
What are you talking about? That’s obviously the next step in his intricate but overwhelmingly successful plot to destroy the Republican Party.
I would have hoped there’d be less death, but you know what they say about omelets.
But vigorous law enforcement is needed to purge this land of all those seditionists and insurrenctionists. By last count, there were about 74 million of them, and they can't all be moved into reeducation camps unless we seriously empower the cops, which fortunately it's now safe to do, since the right people are in charge.
But aren't we worried what the Republicans will do if they get back in power? Weren't you listening? Steps will be taken to ensure that never happens.
What would you do to insurrectionists if you were in charge? Be honest. Imagine they’re black panthers.
What would you do?
I shoot in self-defense. I want so much to be a nonviolence absolutist, but it only works if everyone else goes along with it, right? And I enjoy living more than I enjoy redneck trash who’s trying to kill me living.
Don't you get it, Comrade? The erosion of American's civil liberties is the whole idea. But that's OK, because civil liberties were getting in the way of dealing with those nasty Republicans.
The Republicans thought they had a right to shoot the speaker of the house and hang the Vice President because some black kid somewhere didn’t know his place or some trans person used a word they don’t like.
What civil rights do you care about? Only your own, I suppose?
Hey, lying Tony. The 2000 capitol police are armed.
What weapons did your 200 nefarious "insurrectionists" have to carry out your allegations.
According not to them they have the absolute god-given right to carry whatever weapon they want into their own Congress.
Pity about all your ideas going up in smoke forever. You have to win revolutions you start, see. Otherwise it is... bad for you.
Trump's final speech before he got in the helicopter was just like his presidency: unprepared, incoherent, self-serving and offensive to anyone hoping to be inspired by a real statesman. He petulantly refused to mention the incoming president's name. When he optimistically opened the mike up to his wife, she awkwardly had nothing to say.
There was one tidbit in there that deserves mention. He poked China in the eye by calling COVID the Chinavirus. And he warned that China created a very dangerous situation and that it continues to be very dangerous. Then he hesitated in a way that made it seem like he wanted to tell us more about that, but couldn't. Trump was never playing 4-D chess. What you see is what you get, and he seemed more like a kid with a secret he really wanted to tell, rather than someone holding back another insult. I don't think he is capable of the latter.
A claim that China released an engineered virus, even accidentally, would have world changing ramifications, potentially forcing their hand to militarily secure vital resources in the face of severe sanctions. Even Trump could be convinced that the information not be released, especially if the disclosure would be used in his impeachment.
Intelligent people have speculated that it’s possible the virus was found in nature but escaped from a lab. Hard to know the truth with China.
But if we care more about poking the bad man in the eye than fixing the problem, we’re falling victim to our chimp brains again instead of using our human ones. There’s no logical reason to assume China would start a pandemic on purpose. They’re extremely paranoid authoritarians. A pandemic is the opposite of having control.

"Its a great day. Republicans and perdue win in georgia based on legal votes.
Trump serves his second term as president 2021-2025.
Biden so close.
Notice harris has not resigned her senate seat yet? She knows she wont be VP."
Difficult to see, always in motion, the future is.
Lovecon may have gotten his political predictions wrong, but a guy like you who doesn’t know the formulae for water or how quotation marks work, shouldn’t be calling anyone a moron.
surprised and disappointed that you didn't note how many of his pardons were specifically of swamp creatures. corrupt politicians featured prominently in this list, whether they had prior association with Trump or not. most of them were caught red-handed with fingers in the public cookie jar or accepting bribes for public acts. that deserves notice as an especially swampy act.
So Humpty Trumpty didn't pardon any of his minions who were arrested for breaking into the capitol? Haaaaaahaha. Those poor stupid motherfuckers are going to be doing a lot of time behind bars for their fearless leader. Or maybe we should start calling him fearful coward. 😀 😀 😀 😀 :0
The word of the day in QAnon circles is “conned.”
Add "trump presidency" and "trump insurrection"
to the list of shoddy products put out with the trump name that promised big, failed to deliver, and left anyone buying in with their pockets empty, livelihoods ruined, and anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together saw coming a mile away.
unfortunately you have seen the MAGA crowds, and well...they are a little short in the IQ department. they got what they deserved
