Capitol Riot

After a Chaotic Day, Congress Finally Confirms That Joe Biden Won the Presidential Election

The usually rote process was marred by President Donald Trump's conspiracy theories and a Republican attempt to thwart the outcome, but the result is now official.

|

The usually routine congressional process of certifying the final results of a presidential election was disrupted Wednesday by a riot that drove lawmakers off the floor to seek shelter as hundreds of President Donald Trump's supporters ransacked the U.S. Capitol.

But that only delayed the inevitable conclusion. Joe Biden has been confirmed as the president-elect of the United States.

Even before the protest-turned-riot that interrupted the proceedings for more than six hours, an attempt to block certification of the results was more about appeasing Trump's bruised ego than anything else. Only a handful of Republicans—led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R–Texas) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R–Mo.)—supported the effort.

Trump collected the first 12 electoral votes—nine from Alabama, three from Alaska—before the first objection, to Arizona's results, disrupted the process. After lawmakers adjourned to their respective chambers to debate the objection in the afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–Ky.) encouraged his members to drop their doomed bid to overturn the election.

"We cannot simply declare ourselves a national board of elections on steroids. The voters, the states, and the courts have all spoken. If we overrule them, it would damage our republic forever," McConnell said. "I will not pretend that such a vote would be a harmless protest measure while relying on other people to do the right thing."

Then a far greater disruption occurred. Vice President Mike Pence was hustled out of the Senate by security, and both chambers abruptly entered recess as rioters crashed through windows and doors around the Capitol. Trump supporters raided offices and looted public spaces. One woman was shot and killed by Capitol police outside the House chamber. It was a wild, unprecedented, and embarrassing afternoon for a nation that holds itself out as a shining example of democracy.

It was a little after 8 p.m. when the House and Senate finally reconvened. "This is still the people's house. and as we reconvene in this chamber, the world will again witness the resilience and strength of our democracy," Pence said as the Senate resumed. "Let's get back to work."

Trump and some of his supporters had pushed a false theory that Pence had the sole authority to accept or reject the Electoral College votes certified by the states. But the vice president rejected that idea—reportedly angering Trump in the process.

In a session that stretched late into the evening, senators and members of the House debated the Arizona objection. In the end, only six members of the Senate voted to support the objection, while 122 Republicans in the House did. The effort failed, and a later objection to Pennsylvania's election results was similarly defeated. Hawley, Cruz, and other Republicans dropped plans to object to the vote count in Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin.

What was supposed to be a routine, largely ceremonial procedure finally concluded in the early hours of Thursday morning. As expected, Biden won 306 votes and Trump won 232 votes when the alphabetical reading of the states' Electoral College votes was concluded.

The chaos that Trump helped spark and the final defeat of the president's nonsensical bid to overturn the election turned January 6, 2021, into a day that won't be forgotten soon. But the day's events are more evidence for the resilience of America's political institutions, which have been much-tested during the Trump years. Wednesday was an unprecedented challenge to the constitutional process that helps ensure a peaceful transfer of power. Trump lost, again.

"We gather today due to a selfish man's injured pride, and the outrage of his supporters whom he has deliberately misinformed for the past two months and stirred to action this very morning," Sen. Mitt Romney (R–Utah) said during a fiery speech on Wednesday evening in which he condemned members of his own party for spreading lies that put the president's self-interest ahead of the nation.

"The best way we can show respect for the voters who were upset is by telling them the truth," Romney said. "President Trump lost."

  1. The head of the National Association of Manufacturers, a group representing 14,000 companies in the U.S., on Wednesday called on Vice President Mike Pence to “seriously consider” invoking the 25th Amendment of the Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office.

The 25th Amendment states that the vice president can become acting president if he and a majority of the Cabinet declare the president no longer able to hold office. However, if the president contests that declaration, it takes two-thirds of the House and Senate to override and remove him.

Two Democratic U.S. representatives worked on a letter Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday requesting that he invoke the amendment, according to NBC News.

The Con Man is mentally ill. The 25th needs to be applied.

    1. Hey, I wanted him removed from office because of #TrumpUkraine. And #TrumpRussia before that. You insisted impeachment wasn’t necessary — one of your very rare miscalculations.

      1. Fuck off.

        1. Now we can only hope and pray, a patriot, some hundreds of yards from Biden and Harris, can with great competence, send a sierra match king flying through the air with enough downrange energy to explode the skulls of Harris and Biden, preferably with a single shot, before January 20th.

The horror on the faces of the likes of people like Chuckie Schumer, Pelosi, George Conway, Jack Dorsey et al, would be orgasmic. To see on their face, that they are not untouchable, would be an enormous victory. Then we can stop playing this stupid game and move straight into secession and the organizing into more preferable unions, for all of us.

            1. LOL please do. It's really no different than the bloody headless Trump displayed by Kathy Griffin. The left wrote it off as "freedom of expression." And I am just playing the same game the left plays.

I didn't say I was going to do it. I said we can "hope and pray."

      3. Yeah, I found it strange that North Eastern Taxidermy and Animal Husbandry Society’s declaration that the 25th Amendment should be used to remove Donald Trump is getting so much press.

    3. I’ve been saying that for a while. But dementia is on a spectrum. It can be quite hard to prove. People can still be sharp as a tack in one area but a complete loss of faculty in others.

Still, some form of dementia makes more sense than the alternatives. One of which is that his ego is so massive he would rather see the country burn than accept the outcome of an election.

As yesterday’s events show, just letting the clock run out isn’t a safe option. The Democrats are already planning for an eleven o’clock impeachment, so invoking the 25th may be the best option Pence has. The president’s actions have bordered on insurrection, and one does not just sit by and let that happen.

      1. They can plan all the impeachments they want. The Rs still hold the Senate.

        1. Perhaps, though I like to think some Rs would cross over in this moment. An impeachment seems to bar him from running in 2024 as well, allowing us to just be rid of him entirely. At least in formal politics.

          1. Trump is not running in 2024 you complete f’n moron to even suggest it. What a tool.

          2. Heil the leftist soviet!

          3. “…allowing us to just be rid of him entirely…”

Or we could get rid of TDS-infected shits.

    6. Invoking the 25th is perhaps the stupidest idea being presented. It’s like throwing gasoline on a fire to put it out. Waiting for 2 weeks seems much more prudent instead of emotionally lashing out because you hate Trump.

As neither a Trump supporter or Anti-Trump activist, it amazed me how deranged the two side have become. Trump isn’t the devil or a saint. Anti-Trump deranged activists can take a chill-pill and wait for 2 more weeks. And rabid Trump supporters have two weeks to prepare for the pending disaster.

      1. How would it be prudent to let this guy have nuke codes for two more weeks after what we just witnessed? Not removing him increases the odds for more violence than removing.

        1. Another moronic panty waste. Yeah, because he just pulls out the suitcase and puts the codes in and boom. FFS you should be embarrassed with that idiocy. Better find your safe space until then. Don’t forget the thumb sucking.

        2. Wow, I have to admit, I haven’t heard the “his finger’s on the button!” lament since… Ronald Reagan was in office.

      2. Invoking the 25th now would be a mistake the people who were there yesterday will not tolerate that and will only anger more people. your correct let the next two weeks play out. I think the election had flaws many was it stolen don’t know but also don’t know where Trump gets the idea that Pence could change the election. that is either stupid advice on purpose, very likely chance, or Trump has become delusional to that point.

        1. It was not stolen. Enough of that horseshit.

          1. It was stolen. Definitely stolen. It's a like a "Box 13 Scandal."

        2. Pence, said he didn’t have the authority to decide which votes to count or not count, then he decided. He should have sent it back to state legislatures for clarification. Laws don’t matter anymore.

      3. Depends on how its done. If the 25th was invoked with 2/3 of the Senate supporting it, then some of the knuckleheads may start re-evaluating what tRump has been telling them.
        I said “maybe”
tRumptards are particularly thick headed. I have a friend who pulled the “270 pages of evidence” and we actually sat down and went through it. In the end he agreed that the evidence was slim to none. Next day, we were nearly at square one again.
The one thing that could help is if Georgia releases the rest of the video tape (showing the boxes put next to the tables)

        1. “…then some of the knuckleheads may start re-evaluating what tRump has been telling them…”
And if it isn’t perhaps some deranged TDS-infected shits might wise up.
I said “perhaps”; TDS-infected shits are particularly thick headed, TDS-infected shit.

          1. There’s no such thing as TDS. Trump just happens to be a fat, stupid, evil piece of shit, and that’s why he’s hated, you fucking retard.

            1. Looks like you have TDS. Might want to get that checked out.

    8. Good for Mitt Romney for having the gumption and courage to tell Donald Trump’s supporters to tell it like it really is!

  2. I wonder how many Trumpistas called in sick to work today because they’re too depressed to get out of bed.

    1. Is LovesTrumpsTinyMushroomDick1789 on suicide watch?

      1. You poor Commies. Only Lefties run from a challenge.

Democrats lost Civil War 1.0 and will lose this Civil War 2.0

        1. So that’s the fantasy you’ve shifted to now? That you guys would be the union in this next civil war? Ha. No more or less deranged than the rest of your predictions, I suppose.

          1. Its been Civil war 2.0 for years now.

This just solidifies that there is no compromise with Commie Democrats and their liars in the media.

Wait for your chance and strike. Play to win.

          2. That you guys would be the union in this next civil war?

Well yeah. You guys are slavers. Commie slavers. And the libertarileftists here too.

        2. You poor gullible fools who supported Donald Trump! Somebody finally told you like it is. You didn’t like it? So be it. It’s something you badly needed to hear.

    2. Every last one of the Trump fan boys here can fuck off. They are traitors.

      1. They can denounce the Trump rioters all day long, but everyone knows that they were cheering them on.

        1. Much like you were cheering the death of an unarmed woman, I guess.

          1. No, I’m not a sick fuck like you.

Because I can say for certain that you’d be jumping up and shouting “Fuck yeah!” if cops shot an antifa punk climbing into a government building through a smashed window. But it’s different when it’s a Trumpista. No principles at all.

            1. No, you’re a sicker fuck who defends the progressive shock troops. I can say for certain that you are very happy that woman is dead and wish there had been more casualties. You’ll pardon me if the opinion of the guy who has shown for years that there is no principle he can’t ignore when it comes to the left doesn’t mean a whole lot, Mr “principled.”

            2. My principles are I don't like your faction, and I wish you were all dead. And the sooner the better.

              1. There it is folks.

There’s always a few of them who don’t bother with the mask. This is what Trumpism boils down to. Hate of the other. Can’t say it is anything else. Trump and the GOP had a chance to explain to us what their principles are in their party platform. They went with “We support whatever Trump does.” Personality cult of hate. Beholden to the whims of a malignant narcissist, (and former democrat).

                1. You do realize that applies to the lefties too? There’s clearly a growing chorus on the right and left espousing those beliefs, to pretend like it’s only trumpers is ignorant. At this point it’s a small percentage on both sides, but it continues to grow, especially as the amount of power wielded by government grows.

                  1. Absolutely, and they feed off each other’s actions and rhetoric. That said, the demographics of Reason’s comment section skews a certain way and the majority of annoying extremist dick-bags here are of the Trumpian sort.

                    1. What are you going to call us after trump is gone? LOL.

                2. Never wore a mask and never will.

Doesnt matter what the political tyrants and their Commie propagandist claim.

                  1. Is loveconstitution1789 an automated troll.
Literally nothing he writes adds anything to the discussion. Just a smorgasbord of dog whistle terms.

                3. Hate of the other. Can’t say it is anything else.

                  Pot, meet Kettle….

                  1. Well, shall we compare Biden’s speeches to tRumps tweets? Not nearly the same.

                    1. Not even close. You have to listen to the speeches in context though, not just parrot the meaning as interpreted and regaled by the MSM.

                    2. Sure. Trump speaks angrily in tweets, complaining, profusely, and Biden speaks sweetly about taking your money, and enslaving you inside equity extremism, with a gentle smile. LOL

                4. There it is folks.

There’s always a few of them who don’t bother with the mask. This is what Trumpism boils down to. Hate of the other. Can’t say it is anything else. 3. Difference the rioters yesterday never made any claims to harm people unlike Antifa which has claimed physical violence as their goal.

              1. To be fair, I believe Antifa’s goal is to oppose facism with extreme prejudice and not give an inch…. physical violence is just their tool – and a carefully crafted one. They seem to be able to push things just far enough to get a response.

                1. I believe Antifa's goal is to usher in the Biden/Harris admin with equality/equity extremism to compensates for the fact that they are losers who can't compete in a capitalist system.

                2. No, no, no! Antifa was defending itself against the rightwing Proud Boys, etc., who went on the offensive and attacked first.

            4. The woman was a liberator and not an oppressor like antifa/BLM. She is in no way meaningfully comparable beyond being human.

              1. She was a terrorist.

                1. Terrorists and Patriots. The same meaning. Just different sides of the coin.

Now get back so sucking the cock of equity, Vince.

          2. No, unlike you all jumping for joy, sickeningly, disgustingly, after Kenosha. I remember that. I will start producing links to some of the cult’s comments from that day, because it shows a stark contrast in reaction from the two sides to violence against americans. Trump cultists revel in it, everyone else is saddened by it. It tells you who really cares about america and americans. Who are real patriots and who are broken people under the influence of a simple conman.

        2. I was cheering them. I hope they do it again today. If they can do it everyday, that would be ideal.

          1. No one cares what you cheer for. You add nothing to the conversation.

          2. Why do you type in pink? Are you gay?

            1. You wish!

            2. Calling someone “gay” hasn’t been more insulting to the recipient than the speaker for making it, in about the last fifteen years, 脑残. No 50 cents for you.

Anyway, do you guys divvy up the threads ahead of time? Like does Tony only take the threads after 1 PM, while Haystack takes the morning threads?

          3. Blow it out your ass, Bereft-the-Left!

        3. Trump was cheering them on, according to leaked sources, even though Trump’s own son was in the Capitol.

      2. Every last one of the Trump fan boys here can fuck off. They are traitors.

Nope. I'm here to stick around perpetuum, for your enjoyment. I hope you guys enjoyed yesterday's charades. I think there will be more of them in the future, from which I anticipate great enjoyment. My only disappointment from yesterday, is that they didn't storm the senate floor sooner to allow for them to beat the senators to death over the course of several minutes with their bare hands. Only then, can we really reject through action, the "equity" extremists being ushered into office. Then we can stop playing this stupid game and move straight into secession and the organizing into more preferable unions, for all of us.

      3. LOL

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

        1. Dissent by Ds. It’s in the name, after all. You don’t see an R do you?

          Though there is a T…

          1. “Though there is a T…”

            Only at the end.

    3. Police shot an unarmed woman yesterday. So much for your concern about government gestapo.

      1. Your concern for police misconduct is hilarious.

        1. Much less than your concern for the rule of law or for liberty. We literally had a peaceful protest yesterday–far more peaceful than the the burned city blocks, the rapes, the assaults, the murders that you and reason justified just a few months ago. And here we have an unarmed woman posing to immediate threat to anyone simply shot by the police. And you cheer. Enjoy your hypocrisy.

          1. Smashed windows, pipe bombs, rifles, trespassers, clashes with cops… Yeah, real peaceful, brownshirt.

            1. I am ready to accept the terms that you have assigned to me. I will embrace being a "brownshirt" and give to you that which your equity extremists desire to give to me.

The "protest" was about as peaceful as the many months of rioting across the nation, described by your media as "mostly peaceful."

And now that the left has established that rioting is acceptable protest, they should not complain too much. We can play the same game - and we will. And you should expect more of it. The sooner we can get to civil war 2.0 and secession, the better.

            2. LOL. A couple of smashed windows and the only weapon discharged was that of the police. How many pipe bombs were exploded? How many molotov’s were thrown? That’s real easy to note. Nothing burned.

Gaslight all you want, Goebbels, but you’re the fascist here.

              1. Sedition. That’s what happened yesterday. An attack on our constitution. No one is buying your minimizing.

                1. Poor Commie unreason staff.

The Democrats lost Civil War 1.0 and they will lose Civil War 2.0 that they started. The media are liars and Democrats dont give two shits about the Constitution.

                2. And we’re not buying into your MSM hyperbole.

Sedition definition is – incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.

Protest – an event in which people gather to show disapproval of something.

                  1. What do you think they were trying to do by breaking into the Capitol?

                3. Sedition. That’s what happened yesterday. An attack on our constitution. No one is buying your minimizing.

What's the matter "De Oppresso Liber?" Liberty too much for you? You ready to go back to being Oppressed? If you are oppressed you can play the "I need liberation" card for all eternity. Fitting for a democrat.

              2. Don’t forget the 12 police officers injured including 1 seriously.
Don’t forget the protestors undermined the very foundation of the federal government (sedition?).
The cool thing is many where not wearing masks (most?), and some where even dumb enough to post on their own social media. Depending on what they are will be charged with, lots of them will no longer be able to buy firearms anymore – maybe even have them confiscated.

                1. “Don’t forget the protestors undermined the very foundation of the federal government (sedition?).”

They did? Seems like the ‘very foundation of the federal government’ is alive and well this morning.

              3. Sarcasmic has gone full nazisoviet

      2. Oh, shooting unarmed protesters is bad only if they are protesting for what they agree with.

        1. BLM will investigate and mass protest capitol police.

          1. BLM has standardized rioting as acceptable protesting. The left shouldn't complain.

        2. You know for a fact that if it was a black and brown mob storming the place, there would have been a pile of rioter bodies in no time.

          1. Party of science right here. No evidence to support this propaganda. unreason does that a lot.

          2. You mean like the armed march on Stone Mountain?

          3. There weren’t for 6 months over the summer. And they were dramatically more violent and destructive.

          4. “You know for a fact that if it was a black and brown mob storming the place, there would have been a pile of rioter bodies in no time.”

Lefty shits are justly famous for making up hypotheticals and then arguing about that.

          5. You know for a fact that if it was a black and brown mob storming the place, there would have been a pile of rioter bodies in no time.

The race card? You are a democrat.

        3. “Oh, shooting unarmed protesters is bad only if they are protesting for what they agree with.”

No, shooting protesters that are looking to oppress us would be significantly less concerning than those looking to liberate. Your failure to acknowledge an obvious distinction betrays your true sentiments and danger to freedom.

      3. Shot an unarmed protester for trespassing.

I’m sure Reason will be all over this law enforcement abuse.

        1. If law enforcement does it to conservative protesters, Reason will be right there telling them to shoot more.

      4. Police shot Venus de Milo?

    4. I wondered what TDS-infected shits would come up with.

        1. never reply to sevo. it so much funnier when whole days go by that no one acknowledges him.

          1. Kind of like how nobody ever responds to Hank Phillips, yet he keeps posting.

      1. Well, given the crew here, it’s usually crayons in their stool.

        1. The Marine Corps wouldn’t take this worthless lot.

    5. Hey. They voted for the initiation of force, and got what they voted for! Picky picky picky…

    6. After what we saw in 2016, I’d imagine a mere fraction of the Clintonistas that wailed at the sky because she failed to ascend to the Iron Throne.

  3. I will not pretend that such a vote would be a harmless protest measure while relying on other people to do the right thing.

After all, this isn’t a simple omnibus bill that will further erode individual liberty and bankrupt the country for our children. This is optics!

    1. Fuck off.

      1. Ha, I didn’t realize Mitch McConnell and Congress had such a staunch defender here.

        1. Go straight to hell, traitorous asshole.

            1. Some say the Republic died when Trump protestors stormed the Capitol. Those few with their fingers on the pulse of American politics know that it really happened when Fist was chased off the Reason forums for being a Trump-supporting traitorous asshole.

              1. What’s crazy is, that was a criticism of Congress and the select few responsibilities they choose to take seriously.

Which, I guess, is a whole branch of federal government I’m maligning, so maybe as far as my presence here reflects, you really can’t spell treason without Reason.

              2. First they came for Fist, and I did nothing….because I’m always late to the roundup

              3. The only thing I’ve ever demanded from Fist is total earnestness and no sarcasm. And now this? This is what we are given?

            2. No fist this is a libritarian website, and the Commenters here love a massive federal government that destroyers liberty

              1. Maybe I’m misremembering, but whatever else that commenter chooses to represent here, he or she usually seemed to me to be some flavor of libertarian.

If you’re libertarian and you hate Trump, that makes sense to me. I do. (Of course, I hate them all to some degree.) And if you’re a libertarian and you like Trump, that also makes some sense to me. He did (or seemed to try) some uniquely (and relatively) libertarian- friendly (or less statist) policies.

                1. Except that whole “peaceful transition of power” and “respecting the right of the people to have self governance” things that are actually fundamental to liberty, unlike corporate tax rates being one particular number or another.

                  1. I’m all for self-governance. When can we start?

                  2. You had your insurance policy.

                    So fuck off.

                  3. “Except that whole “peaceful transition of power””

peaceful like using the intel services to attempt a coup for years. THAT is some good peaceful transition there.

Perhaps Biden shouldn’t have party to the idiocy, but he encouraged it.

                  4. Except that whole “peaceful transition of power” and “respecting the right of the people to have self governance” things that are actually fundamental to liberty, unlike corporate tax rates being one particular number or another.

                    Well. Let Biden know! LOL

            3. After this post, I’m now going back and judging all your previous posts as being written with the utmost earnestness.

          1. Leftist assholes are sore losers even when they win

            1. ALL looters who vote for aggression are losers.

            2. Remember when Hillary supporters cried for 4 years because Trump beat them for 4 years?

Democrats are so desperate they have to cheat to win and less and less Americans are falling for it.

Trump is more popular than 2016.

              1. Screwtheconstition: Trump’s going to whine for the rest of his life, and you’re going to be an imbecile for the rest of yours.

          2. If you’re getting mad at Fist, it’s time for a break from the comment section.

            1. This whole time I’ve been trying to piss everyone off and now you’re suggesting I’ve been failing. Can 2021 be over already.

              1. This whole time I’ve been trying to piss everyone off

Oh, I think we both know that’s not the case, you loveable scamp.

            2. Poor Commies at unreason.

              1. Yeah, what a bunch of schmucks. Not like those people who were absolutely positive that Trump would get a second term, even after the election results clearly showed otherwise, and even after it was very clear that Trump had no legal recourse to change the results. Those people are smart and definitely not schmucks.

                1. Trump is not going to get seconds. But you are. With a Harris (and a little bit Biden) administration! Biden will be way up in you, bustin nuts, and then all of sudden - he's going to say, "Where am I? Is this New Hampshire? Where is my coffee cup? We hold these truths to be self-evident - All men and women are created, by the, you know, you know the thing. Tell corn pop I don't owe him any money! Can someone get me something for my hairy legs?

      2. Fuck off and die, TDS-infected shit.

        1. Awwww… how cute. A girl-bullying prohibitionist caught without her Dr Trump Butthurt Salve.

          1. never reply to sevo. let him twist in wind all alone.

            1. "De Oppresso Liber" - when are you going to crawl out of "oppression" into liberty? You are not oppressed mkay? Just stop it.

  4. “show respect for the voters” maybe actually listen to their concerns and investigate voter fraud. If Biden won legitimate you can finally shut up those bitter clingers. But if not….

    1. Fuck off with your made-up bullshit about election fraud. You are a traitor to American democracy.

      1. Wow, look at at the masks come off and the armbands go on. Must be liberating to be able to finally be so open about your fascism.

        1. Ain’t me who took the mask off. Go straight to hell.

          1. jawohl, mein fuhrer

          2. Assholish TDS-infected shit is more assholish than normal. Did you cream your jeans when you learned the cops killed the un-aermed woman, asshole?

            1. He’s just mad because he thought yesterday would usher in the camps.

It’s all about the camps with these types.

          3. Ain’t me who took the mask off. Go straight to hell.

Bring it. I want you to. The sooner we get this over, the sooner we can stop playing this stupid game and move straight into secession and the organizing into more preferable unions, for all of us.

        2. Yes. Last night the Trumpistas indeed took off their masks and put armbands on their brown shirts.

          1. Oh spanky. Look at you getting all indignant at defiance of authority. Look at you justifying deadly police force against an unarmed woman. Look at you blanket condemning protestors as “rioters.” Remember when you had magic agency powers just a few months ago and were certain that those “mostly peaceful” protests weren’t riots? Remember how those “isolated few” rioters shouldn’t be lumped in with the rest? No? Of course you don’t, because your literal brownblackshirts had to be defended at all costs. And now any threat to their authority must be put down for the good of the fatherland.

          2. Yes. Last night the Trumpistas indeed took off their masks and put armbands on their brown shirts.

I wish they did. Unfortunately no. But hopefully they will soon.

      2. Don’t be a dick. It should be investigated even if it is BS. Enough people are losing trust in the system that it needs to happen or every election will be like this. And you never know, they could find something.

        1. They did investigate it. You have two scenarios.

          1) Rudy G and his clowns made up claims without gathering evidence.

          or

          2) Rudy G and his lawyers investigated claims and gathered evidence.

#1 is the correct conclusion because there are 10 court cases that were literally rejected for lack of evidence.

          1. Oh look, more NYT talking points. And then there’s the facts.

            1. So glad you asked. Here you can peruse the actual court cases at your leisure. Read it and weep, fuckface:

but if you don’t want to go through all of the cases, I have highlighted the ten for you:

Ward v. Jackson, No. CV2020-015285 (Maricopa Cty. Sup. Ct.)
              Complaint Filed: November 24, 2020
              State: Arizona
Current Status or Final Disposition: Relief Requested in Petition Denied (December 4, 2020)
Summary: Plaintiff Ward, Arizona’s Republican Party chair and a Republican presidential elector, filed suit against the state’s Democratic electors, seeking an order from the Maricopa County Superior Court that President-elect Biden’s win in Arizona was void, or, in the alternative, that a second recount must be conducted. The plaintiff alleged, among other things, that there were issues with verifying voters’ signatures on mail-in ballots, illegal votes, and that the ballot-tabulation machines had duplicated some votes in favor of Biden. The Superior Court denied the plaintiff’s request for relief and ordered confirmation of the election results in Arizona, finding that the evidence did not show that there was widespread voter fraud or enough issues with the vote-counting process to require overturning the election results.

Constantino v. City of Detroit, Nos. 20-014780-AW (Wayne Cty. Cir. Ct.), 355443 (Mich. Ct. App.)
              Complaint Filed: November 9, 2020
              State: Michigan
Current Status or Final Disposition: Plaintiffs’ Petition for Injunctive Relief and Plaintiffs’ Motion for Protective Order Denied by Wayne County Circuit Court (November 13, 2020); Leave to Appeal Denied by Michigan Court of Appeals (November 16, 2020); Application for Leave to Appeal Filed with Michigan Supreme Court (November 17, 2020)
Summary: Individual voters and poll challengers sued the City of Detroit, the Detroit Election Commission, and other state elections officials, alleging voter fraud throughout Wayne County as a result of violations of Michigan law. The plaintiffs made various claims under both the Michigan Constitution and Michigan statutory law, including statutory election law violations and equal protection violations. The plaintiffs requested that the Wayne County Circuit Court require the defendants to conduct an independent, non-partisan audit of the election results in Detroit. The Wayne County Circuit Court denied the plaintiffs’ requests for relief, holding that “[i]t would be an unprecedented exercise of judicial activism for this Court to stop the certification process of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers,” and noting that the affidavits submitted largely did not even concern activity at the Detroit Election Headquarters. Plaintiffs filed a motion for immediate consideration, a motion for peremptory reversal, and for leave to appeal with the Michigan Court of Appeals. The Court of Appeals granted the motion for consideration but summarily denied the remaining motions “for failure to persuade the Court of the existence of manifest error requiring reversal and warranting peremptory relief without argument or formal submission.” The plaintiffs then filed an application for leave to appeal and a motion for immediate consideration with the Michigan Supreme Court, which are currently pending.
Stoddard v. City Election Commission of Detroit, No. 20-014604-CZ (3rd Judicial Cir. Ct. Mich.)
              Complaint Filed: November 4, 2020
              State: Michigan
Current Status or Final Disposition: Motion for Injunctive Relief Denied (November 6, 2020)
Summary: Individual voter Stoddard and the Election Integrity Fund filed suit against the City Election Commission of the City of Detroit, Chairperson of the City Election Commission Winfrey, and the Wayne County Board of Canvassers. The plaintiffs requested a preliminary injunction to: (1) require the defendants to retain all original and duplicate ballots and poll books; and (2) enjoin certification of the county election results until party inspectors could compare the duplicate ballots with the originals. The plaintiffs claimed that an injunction was necessary because party inspectors were not present at each table inside the absentee vote counting board location. The Third Judicial Circuit Court for Wayne County disagreed with the plaintiffs, finding that the plain language of the relevant state statute only required that each major party have a representative present at the site of the absentee vote counting. The court also noted that the plaintiffs had failed to identify concrete occurrences of the alleged violations of state election law.
Law v. Whitmer, No. 20 OC 00163 1B (Carson City Dist. Ct.)
              Complaint Filed: November 17, 2020
              State: Nevada
Current Status or Final Disposition: Defendants’ Motion to Dismiss Granted (December 4, 2020)
Summary: Contestants, Republican Party presidential elector candidates, filed a statement of contest against Democratic Party presidential elector candidates challenging the results of the November 2020 presidential election in Nevada. The contestants sought an order declaring either: (1) President Trump as the winner of Nevada and thereafter certifying the Republican elector candidates as Nevada’s presidential electors, or (2) that President-elect Biden’s victory is null and void, and that no candidate for elector for President be certified from Nevada. The Republican contestants alleged various election administration irregularities and voter fraud, from problems with the provisional ballot-casting process to mismatched signatures being accepted by the ballot machines. The Democratic defendants filed a motion to dismiss the statement of contest. The First Judicial District Court for Carson City, Nevada granted the defendants’ motion to dismiss, holding that the Republican contestants “failed to meet their burden to provide credible and relevant evidence to substantiate any of the grounds set forth [by state statute] to contest the November 3, 2020 General Election.”
Kraus v. Cegavske, No. 82018 (Nev. S. Ct.)
              Complaint Filed: October 23, 2020
              State: Nevada
Current Status or Final Disposition: Motion for Stay and to Expedite Appeal Granted in Part and Denied in Part (November 3, 2020)
Summary: An individual voter, President Trump’s campaign committee, and the Nevada Republican Party sued Nevada Secretary of State Cegavske and state elections officials. The plaintiffs sought an injunction against the Registrar of Voters for Clark County to prevent the registrar from using artificial intelligence to authenticate ballots, which the plaintiffs claimed deprived them of the right to observe the ballot-counting process. The Nevada Supreme Court agreed to expedite the appeal given the time-sensitive nature of the election. But the Court ultimately agreed with the district court that the plaintiffs had failed to present sufficient evidence that enjoining the use of artificial intelligence to process ballots was necessary to ensure that the defendants complied with election laws.
              Kelly v. Pennsylvania, No. 20A98 (S. Ct.)
              Complaint Filed: November 21, 2020
              State: Pennsylvania
Current Status or Final Disposition: Emergency Application for Injunctive Relief Denied (December 8, 2020)
Summary: Plaintiffs, Republican candidates for the U.S. and Pennsylvania Houses of Representatives and individual voters, filed suit after the November 3 Election against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania General Assembly, as well as state officials. The plaintiffs sought a declaratory judgment that portions of Pennsylvania’s Act 77, which provides for universal mail-in absentee ballots, were unconstitutional. The plaintiffs also requested an injunction prohibiting Pennsylvania’s certification of the November 3 election results. The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania granted a preliminary injunction on November 25, 2020 to enjoin the certification of any remaining election results in the state. Defendant Secretary of the Commonwealth Boockvar applied to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to exercise extraordinary jurisdiction to hear the case. A few days later, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court vacated the Commonwealth Court’s preliminary injunction in a per curiam decision. In a concurring statement, Justice Wecht noted that the plaintiffs “have failed to allege that even a single mail-in ballot was fraudulently cast or counted,” thereby rendering the extraordinary relief sought entirely inappropriate. The plaintiffs filed an emergency application for writ of injunction with the U.S. Supreme Court on December 3. On December 8, the Supreme Court denied the emergency application in a one-sentence order.
Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. v. Boockvar, No. 20-3371 (U.S. 3d Cir. App.)
              Complaint Filed: November 9, 2020
              State: Pennsylvania
Current Status or Final Disposition: Denial of Injunction Pending Appeal and of Leave to Amend Affirmed (November 27, 2020)
Summary: Plaintiffs, Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. and two individual voters sued Secretary of the Commonwealth Boockvar and county boards of elections, alleging that Pennsylvania election officials had enabled voter fraud. Specifically, plaintiffs took issue with the state’s mail-in ballot procedures, and claimed that the regulations for observing and monitoring the counting of ballots in Pennsylvania had been invalidly enacted, presenting opportunities for widespread voter fraud, and thus denied voters due process under the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania dismissed the suit in its entirety, with prejudice, for lack of evidence supporting the allegations of voter fraud, and denied the plaintiffs leave to amend their complaint. The court concluded in its opinion accompanying the order granting defendants’ motions to dismiss by saying that it “has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence.” The court went on to add: “At bottom, Plaintiffs have failed to meet their burden to state a claim upon which relief may be granted.” The president’s reelection campaign appealed to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing that the District Court had abused its discretion in not permitting the campaign to amend its complaint a second time. Additionally, the campaign had sought an injunction to undo Pennsylvania’s vote certification. The Third Circuit affirmed the District Court’s decision, denying the campaign the opportunity to amend its complaint another time and denying an injunction pending appeal, noting that “tossing out millions of mail-in ballots would be drastic and unprecedented, disenfranchising a huge swath of the electorate and upsetting all down-ballot races too.”
Trump v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, No. 2:20-cv-01785 (E.D. Wis.)
              Complaint Filed: December 2, 2020
              State: Wisconsin
Current Status or Final Disposition: Plaintiff’s Complaint Dismissed with Prejudice and Motion for Preliminary Injunction Denied (December 12, 2020)
Summary: Plaintiff President Trump sued the Wisconsin Elections Commissions, its members, and other state elections officials over the administration of the November 3 presidential election. Specifically, the plaintiff alleged that the state elections officials had violated his rights under the Electors Clause of Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution by issuing guidance on state election law during the coronavirus pandemic that illegally deviated from state statutes. The plaintiff requested that the court order the Wisconsin governor to essentially discard the state election results and appoint presidential electors in an alternative manner. The defendants moved to dismiss the complaint on the grounds that it failed to state a claim and that the court lacked jurisdiction. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin determined that it jurisdiction to hear the claims, but dismissed the complaint on the merits, finding that the presidential electors were being properly appointed under the U.S. Constitution. Remarking on the unusual nature of the case, the court stated that a “sitting president who did not prevail in his bid for reelection has asked for federal court help in setting aside the popular vote based on disputed issues of election administration, issues he plainly could have raised before the vote occurred.”
Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. v. Boockvar, No. 602 M.D. 2020 (Penn. Commonwealth Ct.)
              Complaint Filed: November 9, 2020
              State: Pennsylvania
Current Status or Final Disposition: Defendants’ Motions to Dismiss Granted (November 21, 2020)
Summary: Plaintiffs Donald J. The court concluded in its opinion accompanying the order granting defendants’ motions to dismiss that it “has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence.” The court went on to add: “At bottom, Plaintiffs have failed to meet their burden to state a claim upon which relief may be granted.” President Trump’s legal team has indicated that they plan to appeal the decision to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals
Wisconsin Voters Alliance v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, No. 2020AP001930-OA (Wis. S. Ct.)
              Complaint Filed: November 24, 2020
              State: Wisconsin
Current Status or Final Disposition: Petition for Original Action Denied (December 4, 2020)
Summary: Petitioners, the Wisconsin Voters Alliance and several individual electors, filed an emergency petition for original action in the Supreme Court of Wisconsin against respondents, the Wisconsin Elections Commission and its individual members. The petition claimed that state and local election officials in cities that had received funds from Facebook CEO Zuckerberg’s Center for Technology and Civic Life organization, had used these funds “to illegally circumvent Wisconsin absentee voting laws,” primarily the law providing for an exception to the state’s photo identification requirement. As such, the petitioners sought to declare the election results in Wisconsin null. The Supreme Court of Wisconsin denied the petition for leave to commence an original action in a 4-3 vote, concluding that there were issues of material fact that rendered the case inappropriate for the court to exercise its original jurisdiction. In a concurring opinion, Justice Hagedorn stated that the “petition falls far short of the kind of compelling evidence and legal support we would undoubtedly need to countenance the court-ordered disenfranchisement of every Wisconsin voter.”

Ooops. Now go shut the fuck up and suck Trump’s dick more. He has a serious case of blue balls and only his conspiracy minded supporters can help him.

              1. You owe me a new scroll mouse.

                1. Funny, but he’s right.

There is no controversy with the election results. If you think there is, then you’ve been duped. It really is as simple as that, as the longest comment ever on reason shows.

                  1. During a lot of this there was a hard conflation of two related but distinct issues as well:

                    1) Did voter fraud or error exist – The answer to this seems to be yes. I believe we’ve seen several cases of this in relatively small numbers.

                    2) Did voter fraud or exist on a scale and form that denied Trump a rightful election – this seems to be the harder sell.

There was a bit of a motte and bailey game going on at times about this, reading media they used the two terms distinctly. I actually have a lot of sympathy for number 1. Certain folks who have stated basically “Of course there is some voter fraud, but it’s not worth pursuing due to cost and that it’s ultimately won’t change the results.” I think that was a bold misstep, and taking voter fraud seriously is a reasonable act for the government to pursue to the fullest.

Not that it would change the results, I really have not seen strong evidence of that one, but just to reinforce to individual people that even their single vote matters. That is particularly helpful during this time of increased feelings of disenfranchisement.

                    1. 3) For a lot of voters goes something like this:

Questioner: There seems to large ballot dumps in the middle of the night that disproportionately lean towards one candidate.
Answer: Those are mail-in ballots. Counted last. They came primarily from Democrat counties.
Q: Can we see those ballots?
A: We don’t have them anymore.
Q: Can we see how they were verified?
A: We don’t keep those records once we verify them. But hey, we’ll count them all again if you want.

        2. Yeah, I think this needed to be handled gently. At least part of Trump’s rise is a legitimate issue with large swaths of people being effectively ignored. The push to federal politics has really enabled this, as has the increased power put in the executive, yadda, yadda, yadda.

This was a delicate situation, exacerbated by Trump being whatever Trump is. This also occurred in a political and media landscape built around quips and oneupmanship. Not a great recipe.

Also, massive unemployment and isolation from a year of quarantine. Easy to forget that that hangs over all this. And the common belief that you can just throw money at the poors to replace their paycheck and they will sit satisfied and dumb was probably a bad bet.

          I think I’m rambling now.

          1. For the last four years Trump people have watched cities burn, while the media and Democrats either denied, downplayed, or even outright egged it on.

Then they watch as those same groups win elections under hazy circumstances.

Does anyone really wonder why there was a riot yesterday?

They saw, plain and simple that rioting works.

How many weeks if not months did we commenters here call out Reason for their soft pedalling? Then they finally get shamed into publishing Rommelman?

            More lessons learned.

This will get much worse before it gets better, and the WKs, and other socks here finally know they are not winning any prizes.

            1. Yep! And now they have people like me ;)

          2. Add in likely bailouts for states and you won’t see lockdowns ending anytime in the foreseeable future.

      3. *hand over chest, singing America the Beautiful*

          4. You type in pink and like dicks. I sense a pattern here.

    3. “show respect for the voters”

Accept the choice they made to elect Joe Biden as President. Accept that they were sick of Donald Trump and his antics. Accept that they saw his incompetence handling the pandemic.

      1. Accept the choice they made to elect Joe Biden as President. Accept that they were sick of Donald Trump and his antics. Accept that they saw his incompetence handling the pandemic.

Or not. We could accept none of it. I'd rather vote for storming the capitol.

      2. You sick fucks legalized voter fraud. You have ZERO respect for the voters. FUCK YOU

        1. Don’t have a heart attack. Trump still needs you under his desk to soothe his dick, I mean ego.

          1. Stop eating Biden’s ass. It’s making you retarded.

        2. There was no voter fraud no matter how many times you repeat that lie, asshole.

          1. There were hundreds of affidavits that they just dismissed. In doing so, they single handedly made "poll watchers" irrelevant.

There were numerous election laws that were criminally broken in several states. Zero prosecutions. The left truly has legalized and standardized election cheating. And the next time around, I'll be cheating too ;) Which is fine. The only way, ever, ever, for the left to secure an election, is if they see the right cheating. Then they will have no problem at all having people use an ID. All of a sudden the soft bigotry of low expectations, and the racism of the left in portraying blacks like they are incapable of getting an ID, will vanish like a fart in the wind.

      3. You misspelled select.

    4. I don’t think an investigation would solve the problem. White people have been overturning cars, setting police stations on fire, and chasing black female police chiefs out of town on the West Coast because a black man was justifiably shot by police in Kenosha. Why *wouldn’t* you smash shit and/or set things on fire because your guy lost.

HRC called for an end to political civility in 2018. They wanted a new normal. A Great Reset. Well, this is how politics in America is done now.

      1. Stupid party vs evil party. Been this way for years. Dems win by cheating harder, Reps shocked. US citizens should invest in Vaseline.

      2. I don’t think an investigation would solve the problem. HRC called for an end to political civility in 2018. They wanted a new normal. A Great Reset. Well, this is how politics in America is done now.

At long last, an incredibly reasonable statement. You sir, have a fan.

    5. If Biden won legitimate you can finally shut up those bitter clingers.

what evidence would convince you that Biden won…? or would you, as I suspect, simply blow the evidence off as media bullshit…?

      1. There is no evidence that Biden won.

        1. Only the ballots,

          1. If they are real ballots, prove it or shut up.

            1. They are real ballots as determine by poll workers, elected officials, as well as those assigned responsibility for certifying the election. Ballots are counted, in some cases recounted, machines are audited.

The fact that they didn’t elect the candidate of your choice does not make them any less real.

              1. Then why the lack of transparency. Voting officials should have been falling all over themselves to prove it but alas they did the opposite.

You fail to acknowledge that the fraudulent states violated the constitution(s) in changing voting laws but it’s understandable in your failure to address it because it completely undercuts your lies.

              2. “They are real ballots as determine by poll workers”

Pfft, weak. That’s not proof. That’s “take my word for it because a ‘poll worker’ said so.”

                Do better. Proof? *any*?

                1. What the fuck would you accept as proof?

                  1. Did they show government-issued photo ID, proof of residence, signature match? You know, really just the basic minimal verification.

Even simple checks like that were waived. Banana Republic!

                  2. There is no proof you can provide because the security of the election (and the voting process) is so grossly lacking. There is zero traceability. Zero accountability.

      2. “…what evidence would convince you that Biden won?”

A vote in person, one day, paper ballots, with ID, dip your thumb in ink, and an audit trail, with the count being observed by bipartisan observers and preferably completely open-source. Something approaching the integrity with which other, non-shithole countries conduct their elections.

No time, of course, and why change things now?

    6. Investigate what? The accusation that some poll workers “rolled their eyes when they saw a tRump ballot”? That is one of the complaints in Michigan…
You do understand how evidence works right? If you find something that counters your suspicion, you suspicion is wrong (or needs to be modified).
Since the total number of votes (Biden + tRump + others) is roughly equal to the total number of ballots cast (in-person + mail in), you need to find evidence that 1000s of tRump ballots were shreded and a roughly equal number of Biden ballots were created. That is the only way the Georgia’s audit and hand count could have verified the results AND massive fraud existed.
There are no witnesses who claimed to have seen this.

As to the voter rolls – dead, double, or out of state voters. These have also been addressed. The lists in the lawsuits were created with incomplete information and had, as best anyone could tell, full of false positives. In fact, the spot checks I’ve heard about said the lists were nearly 100% false positives. I believe Georgia found one ‘dead person’ who voted.
That should be investigated… but it doesn’t affect the outcome.

      Thus, Biden won legitimately.

      1. More votes than black jesus.
Just because you voted democrat doesn’t mean you’re not getting fucked. Buy vaseline.

            1. Just wait. The second the house is taken by republicans, it's going to be endless frivolous harassment by means of impeachment of President dementia. The games the left has played, will be played by the right. Watch and see.

              1. Dementia is not ground for impeachment. Try again.

                1. I said he was President Dementia. As in Mr. Dementia. As in that is his name. Not the basis of impeachment - that will be made up on a whim, just as they did to Trump.

          5. It no longer thinks it needs to convince you. Unfortunately, I think that opinion is shared by people who actually matter.

      2. Stop eating Biden’s ass. It’s making you retarded.

  7. The rats are jumping off the Trump ship at record speed. What a humiliating fall from grace for Trump and his sad followers.

    1. The last rats always jump the fastest.

    2. Lame, even for a parody account.

      1. All libertarian accounts unfriendly to Trump are parody accounts. It is known.

  8. Senator Tim Scott put forward a proposal worthy of consideration. It would go a long way to defusing this crisis.

    1. Yeah, let’s keep feeding those conspiracy theories. Fuck off.

      1. Stop culturally appropriating Sevo.

    2. Interesting proposal.

First no bipartisan commission it should be a non partisan commission. No one holding a partisan office may be included. Retired judges, retired office holders, academics and some actual poll workers who know what happens on the ground.

Second the commission must also investigate gerrymandering and voter suppression.

You OK with this? Is so I say go forward.

      1. Does that include gerrymandering done by SCOPA? And how about actual charges for those who illegally changed election laws in their states. You good with that?

        1. Do you know what gerrymandering is?

      2. Yeah, I would be fine with that (non-partisan). I don’t want grandstanding. I want results.

I am an agnostic on gerrymandering and voter suppression. If they are a part of the essential truth of what happened in the 2020 election, then include them.

        1. Great, then I would support Scott’s proposal with the changes I suggest.

      3. There is no such thing as non partisan.

You either are an idiot or a liar. Hell, maybe both.

        1. Yes there are. In Wisconsin our Election Commission worked fine. It was non partisan and made up of retired judges. Parties wanted more control and changed it to bipartisan 3 Ds, 3 Rs. It has worked hap hazardly since the change.

      4. Oh, and do a full audit of Florida, the only state that got tRump a 6% boost over pre-election opinion polls. Where did that 6% come from (actually 5.4, but 6 sounds more dramatic).

        1. You’re dumb enough to think this is a Gotcha!, but what you don’t realize is that, for most people, auditing Florida votes like you suggest is perfectly fine. If they’ve nothing to hide, then why not?

    3. What crisis? There is no crisis.

  9. Boehm is a left-liberal Block Yomommatard, and “Sarah Palin’s Buttplug 2” is his comments sockpuppet.

    1. Fuck off.

      1. Silence is violence.

Why are you being so oppressive?

    2. Wait. I thought you said Dave Weigel was the ‘Plug? What changed?

  10. ” But the day’s events are more evidence for the resilience of America’s political institutions, which have been much-tested during the Trump years. ”

Well, that’s one way to look at it. Another way: A majority of House Republicans voted to overturn the results of an election that Sleepy Joe Biden won by over seven million votes. Donald Trump continues to say that he won the election and it’s a good bet that a majority of Republican voters–the people who decide Republican primaries–believe him. Imagine a “reverse Florida” in which the Democrat loses the national popular vote and wins an electoral majority on the basis of one state, carrying that state by a margin of only a few thousand votes. Would Republican office holders, at either the state or national level, arbitrarily overturn the result simply on the basis of party loyalty and “reports” of voter fraud? I think the answer is “yes”. In fact, that’s very close to what the Supreme Court actually did in the “real Florida” in 2000. Republicans have given up on the possibility of winning the presidency via a majority of the popular vote, and are quite willing to cheat if they have to.

    1. Imagine a “reverse Florida”

Why imagine a “reverse Florida” when all that’s needed is to remember 2016 and the 4 years of Democratic conspiracy theory mongering resulting in an attempted coup by the various intelligence agencies based on a now-admitted fake ‘dossier’ and a failed presidential candidate and gaggle of supporters that insisted she had “really won”.

      1. Sigh, once again, the dossier was not fake. It was simply an unverified collection of information on tRump (paid for by Rubio’s PAC). BTW, the ‘pissing hookers’ has gained some more traction in that tRump seems to have a fetish for that kind of thing.

    2. Really guys, some of you make this way, way too easy.

    3. Oh, and just one last thought on this… for those of you keeping score at home, the above comment is nothing more than the latent echoes of boomer harumphing that Al Gore “really won” the 2000 election.

  11. The interesting thing here is how much those insurrectionists helped the process. The minute they disrupted the process they assured that it would go on. We don’t give into terrorist in this country. When 911 happened everyone we went after those responsible. When the attack on the Capital happened you knew that no one would leave that day before the count was certified.

    1. “When 911 happened everyone we went after those responsible.”

Derp. Yep it was Saddam Hussein and the Taliban who attacked the twin towers on 9/11.

  12. Yay! Democracy won!

    All is good now!

People are out of your minds.

    Biden. What a joke.

    1. Are you with the traitors who committed sedition yesterday, or the constitution?

      Those are your only choices.

      1. Well you made your choice against the constitution a few years ago, so I’ll go with whatever you don’t want.

      2. “Are you with the traitors who committed sedition yesterday,”

TDS-infected shits would be taken more seriously if they learned the definition of words.

      3. Those are your only choices.

        LOL – no they aren’t!

  13. It is indeed shocking and mystifying how a “mostly peaceful” protest could get out of hand. Perhaps seeing a summer of rioting and looting going unpunished led some angry Trump supporters to think they could get away with attacking, not some innocent store owners and passersby, the objects of their anger? American politicians opened Pandora’s box and let out all manner of evil this year and all the tut-tutting about law and order now is, one hopes, not forgotten in future legislation that continues to shred the Constitution that so many voices on the Hill have suddenly professed to find sacred.

    1. What people don’t know is that people are not going unpunished. Periodically I note in my newspaper that so and so is charge with property destruction. You see the police and prosecutors don’t always work like you think. They go back over the photo images identify people and build cases.

This same thing will happen to the insurrectionist from yesterday. Those people rioting will find them selves in a courtroom by themselves. They won’t have all those people egging them. They will be there alone staring at a judge and a prosecutor.

      1. What you don’t know is that most of them are going unpunished. All of those nice progressive DAs aren’t bothering to enforce the laws against their shock troops. So no, the same thing won’t happen to the peaceful protestors from yesterday, which is precisely how you fascists want it.

      2. Thing is there are cameras all over that place and these idiots had their faces uncovered.

The government does not take these things lightly when they are the targets.

        1. “…The government does not take these things lightly when they are the targets.”

Which is all that matters here. Our ‘betters’ got scared.
People who died in the summer riots last year? Who cares? They aren’t among the ‘elite’.
The scumbags occupying the halls of government felt threatened yesterday and to statists like echospinner, that’s a horrible circumstance!

          1. No just an observation.

    2. America has a long history of riots. Didn’t start here and didn’t start in Portland.

But that is beside the point. One does not excuse the other. Storming the Capitol while congress is in session is unique in our history. There are specific reasons why this happened and some soul searching is in order.

      1. Soul searching?

Thought you said high fiving and was about to say “already done”

Make the government FEAR the governed. Show them who is really in charge.

        1. Lol. Yeah that’s what happened all right.

  14. The storm center of lawlessness in every American State is the State Capitol. It is there that the worst crimes are committed; it is there that lawbreaking attains to the estate and dignity of a learned profession; it is there that contempt for the laws is engendered, fostered, and spread broadcast.

Welcome to The Great Reset. Enjoy your new normal.

  15. I woke up pretty depressed today, but seeing WK randomly throwing a tantrum is cheering me up a bit. Maybe the birds are still singing and the flowers still blooming, after all.

  16. Donald Trump: Traitor to Democracy!

    Stacey Abrams: YAS SLAY KWEEN!!!

    1. Stacy Abrams, who still hasn’t conceded.

  17. The downward spiral will continue

Each side exactly mimicking the other, with some one-upsmanship of course. Completely immersed in their own news bubble, they will what-aboutism their was to replicating the exact behavior they spend all of their time bitching about the other side.

After 4 years of bitching about the dems for making up russia and completely relying on hearsay / faulty evidence, the R’s have now gone full Russia…except this time it is imagined voter fraud that they KNOW happened…bc their feelz. Nothing will convince them otherwise. After literally every defeat, they just move the goal posts to the next thing we need to find on the scavenger hunt. Just as sure as the dems were that Russia had the pee tape, or the russian bank account, or whatever schiff claimed to have…the election was illegitimate because Russia, I mean voter fraud.

The R’s were disgusted when the dems brought no evidence, just hearsay and BS claims at kavanaugh. Now they seem to be completely fine with overturning an election based on the hearsay of witnesses that have constantly to be shown to be full of shit and / or lying. Completely made up claims are enough now, apparently.

The actual adults get to throw shame at the treasonous fucks at the capital building, as their BS cause is completely rooted in the delusional ramblings of a clearly corrupt and unfit leader, their behavior unamerican. But the dems that championed antifa garbage burning cities to the ground have to STFU and eat it. They normalized rioting. Fucking hypocrites at every turn.

    Race to the bottom

    1. Cities burned and you called them “mostly peaceful” protests. Because you’re a hypocrite.

Federal buildings were under siege for months with rioters assaulting them night after night and even trying to board up federal officers and burn them alive. You threw a fit when protestors were detained and questioned. You bought into the narrative that “moms” were there to protect their poor little children from the mean, nasty federal agents protecting federal property. Because you’re a hypocrite.

True rebels cordoned off blocks of city streets and create their own government. People were terrorized, their property stolen, assaulted, raped, and even murdered. And you wistfully opined that “real libertarianism” just hadn’t been tried. Because you’re a hypocrite.

There’s no race to the bottom. You beat everyone.

      1. “Completely immersed in their own news bubble, they will what-aboutism their was to replicating the exact behavior they spend all of their time bitching about the other side.”

        thanks for proving my point

no insight at all in these fucking sub 80 IQ kids I swear

      2. Don’t recall any mass sedition from democrats, ever.

You guys are the biggest losers in the political history of the USA. In just 4 years, you’ve gone from controlling the house, senate, and executive, to having none of them. And having accomplished no major policy goals, other than a temporary tax cut and a few other early reversed eo’s.

You went all in on a malignant narcissist of a conman, and you got predictably played. Now trump is leaving you and the rest of the cult in the same state he leaves all his ventures: in complete ruin that he will disavow all responsibility for.

All this mewling about antifa or laptops or unfolded ballots sounds like a whole lotta excuses for becoming a mark for a con. Time to look at yourselves before you go looking outward for scapegoats. Your cult leader whipped a mob into sedition yesterday. Antifa and hunter and portland was nowhere in sight. Sit and think about that.

        1. Go suck some federal dick you absolute statist faggot

        2. Ever!

          LOL.

          Fort Sumter ring a bell?

          Moron.

        3. If I recall, there was quite a famous incident of Democratic mass sedition . . .

      3. You fell into his trap.
BTW, if 51% of protestors don’t do anything wrong, is that “mostly peaceful”? What percentage of tRumptards stormed the Capital? I suspect it was 10% or so. So “mostly peaceful”

As for the race to the bottom, “race” implies more than one competitor and the term “race to the bottom” also implies a back and forth one upmanship.

Meanwhile our national debt is 28Trillion, sorry $28,000,000,000,000.00 and pretty soon we will be talking real money. I think every breathing person in the US owes something like $75,000. I worry how fast we will find bottom.

  18. “Won”

Eric can pretend otherwise, but there’s a real undercurrent of anger in the country right now. One side (the left) has shown to be above the law and has indeed been allowed to act outside of it for months on end, while the other (the right) is subjected to constant gaslighting from their “betters” while being politically silenced and threatened with “reeducation”.

What occurred yesterday was entirely foreseeable when one side is told to shut up and trust the same people who have repeatedly shown themselves to be untrustworthy liars. When people lose faith in voting, and no longer feel their politicians are listening to their concerns, the final option is one which no one will like.

Eric’s constant gaslighting will not change that fact.

    1. They werent told to shut up either away. They’ve had recounts, audits, and 5 dozen court cases, including 3 federal cases the trump campaign withdrew themselves when it became apparent they had no evidence at all. And don’t even start on the dumb, easily debunked lie going around parler and the rest of the traitor bubble: they did not lose on procedural grounds.

So at this point, are you an american or are you a traitor? That’s it. Tantrum time is over. The nation is done with your traitorous death cult and your conman loser of a messiah.

      Shorter Mac:
      “But muh feelings!”

      1. With apologizes to any Christians here, JFC.

1.) Why is no one questioning the fake pipe burst story in GA? Last I checked, there are no records matching the time of the pipe burst to when voting was “halted”.

2.) Why is no one questioning the fact that three to four states all stopped counting at equally the same times? When has this ever happened n a Presidential election?

3.) Why should I accept that 4AM late night ballot dumps as completely normal? (Oddly enough, Walker “lost” his race in 2018 the exact same way Trump “lost” WI in 2020– a late night ballot dump from Milwaukee).

I’ll leave it as just those, in my mind, simple questions. I’ve asked these questions time and time again, yet they continue to be glossed over and ignored.

And, FWIW, Trump is the only incumbent to “lose” while increasing his vote totals since at least the start of the 20th century. Trump received the highest share of the minority vote in about 60 years, while Biden– who somehow blew Obama’s 2008 numbers out of the water– attained the lowest minority share in about the same period.

        2 + 2 doesn’t equal 5.

        At least not yet anyway.

        1. There is more evidence for Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster than for this conspiracy.

          1. Which part of my post was conspiracy…?

            1. The whole part. If you are really interested in the truth, you will ask why Trump campaign’s lawyers backed down from presenting any of the things you perceive to be evidence when they had the chance and when it counted.

It is because there are real penalties for lying to a judge, and none of them were dumb enough to try it.

        2. I’ll add one. Why did the Dems put together the Biggest Election Fraud organization in history and then not use it when there were questions of fraud?
Or was that just one of Sleepy’s biggest gaffes prior to the Election?

    2. It’s not gaslighting if it’s true. No credible evidence of election fraud large enough to turn a state has been presented, despite repeated claims that they had the evidence. What they had was affidavits full of hearsay and speculation. There were cases brought before several state courts, and were thrown out. Tried to bring them to the Supreme Court too, but were not accepted for lack of standing and inappropriate relief. It’s over. There is not evidence that the election was stolen. No evidence. Your imaginings are not the truth.

HUGO CHAVEZ DID NOT FUCK WITH THE ELECTION BECAUSE HUGO CHAVEZ IS DEAD!

Moreover, the solution to your butthurt is NOT the destruction of the US Constitution. It’s NOT a commandment to Pence to break the law. It’s NOT a commandment to state election officials to manipulate the vote. The solution is not sedition and insurrection.

      1. It’s not gaslighting if it’s true. No credible evidence of election fraud large enough to turn a state has been presented

I agree that it hasn’t. But if that’s the legal standard for starting a court case on potential election fraud, we’re screwed because it means that people who want to commit election fraud just don’t keep good records and operate behind closed doors.

Moreover, the solution to your butthurt is NOT the destruction of the US Constitution. It’s NOT a commandment to Pence to break the law. It’s NOT a commandment to state election officials to manipulate the vote. The solution is not sedition and insurrection.

I agree. The solution would be for Biden to get confirmed as president and simultaneously having the FBI and courts look at election fraud and holding the people who may have committed it responsible and making sure it doesn’t happen again. That’s what upholding the Constitution would actually mean. But you’re burning the Constitution it just as surely as the LARPers who entered the capitol.

        1. “people who want to commit election fraud just don’t keep good records”
The recording keeping was just fine. This is another tRump propaganda piece.
Is record keeping perfect? No. Is it good enough for the margins we are talking about? YES
To throw the election one way or another – keeping in mind that it pretty much has to be done across many states) requires a prefect code of silence by the co-conspirators. You would have us believe that the biggest, most tight lipped conspiracy in the history of man kind happened last November?
No Snoden to spill the beans?
What I can’t wrap my head around is the fact that Republican’s tend to be for individual rights and suggest things like most people should be trusted with firearms – unless they demonstrated doing or willingness to do some truely horrific act. I.E. the vast majority of people are law-abiding.
Now it comes to an election, even those run in Republican states, everyone is a criminal and they require constant supervision or they will commit felonies.
All this from the unsupported premise that tRump won, therefor there must have been massive fraud. The accusations follow from there.

    3. Was Breonna Taylor above the law? Just checking.
As for left (or right) being above the law – 90+% followed the law, we are talking fringes here.
BTW, BLM didn’t start protesting over just one killing. There is a bit of history leading up to the killing. Just a bit.
But hey, we are all equal now so we are good right?

  19. How long before President Harris gets Biden removed?

    1. One President or another, we’re using the 25th Amendment this year!

    2. Two years. Unless he pulls a Ruth Bader.

    3. A more interesting question is will we have a President Pence before we have a President Biden.

      1. ??

Never mind; I get it. LOL at using the 25th to dump Trump and thinking that helps things. Jesus, you sure are an impatient lot.

  20. Can’t wait to see what lc1789 comes up with next? A trump time travel machine? A secret alien trump alliance? How will he maintain his critical levels of cognitive dissonance? It will be fascinating to see.

    1. gotta wonder if he will just invent his own alternate timeline and tell us what Potus trump is up to every day.

although, alternate POTUS trump will probably be mostly golfing, eating KFC, and watching FOX/OAN and angrily calling in to mutter some delusional BS and prove how he has absolutely no grasp on reality…

so really not different than if he actually was still president? I guess LC wont have to make up too much

      1. Poor Sullum will be lost…

    2. He’s waiting for an updated script from his handlers in Moscow. (And that’s not really snark — I’m extremely certain that loveconstitution1789 is some sort of professional pro-Trump troll. I investigated this back in late 2016 and that handle appeared for the first time in, IIRC, March 2016 and made one or two posts at a dozen or so random political websites over the next several months before hitting Reason in September 2016 and camping out here ever since. All through his pre-Reason posting, he manifested literally zero support for any traditional libertarian positions and was purely pro-Trump/owning the libs-oriented in his posting. Since he’s been here, he’s explicitly expressed his opposition to all sorts of traditional libertarian positions and pretty much made clear that he only supports any sort of traditional libertarian positions to extent those happen to coincide with Trump’s policies.)

      1. It’s hard to tell actual Trump supporters from Kremlin bots.

        1. That’s because you’re an idiot.

  21. Some of the Capitol Police were definitely in on the coup attempt yesterday. Their response was weak. It shouldn’t be that easy for domestic terrorists to take over the Capitol.

    1. “Some of the Capitol Police were definitely in on the coup attempt yesterday…”

TDS-infected shits would be taken more seriously if they had any idea what words actually meant.

      1. There was video of some police apparently moving the barriers back. Hence the collusion accusation.
I looked and I saw police being overwhelmed. I’m sure it will all be investigated (including the shooting).

We seem to be taking the death/killing of another person too lightly as of late.

  22. I see the usual collection of faggot faux libertarians (aka democrats) are here spewing the usual trash, and celebrating a dementia patient being handed power while his sociopathic protege cackles because she will be the actual power.

Sadly the country will be far worse off ruled by leftist democrats who ignored rioting and looting all year until it actually affected them.

    GFY

    1. And this just sealed the deal for the dems for who knows how long.

      1. Why? We had CRAZED BIDEN SUPPORTERS burning down cities for months while being protected by the government. And supposedly Biden still won “legitimately.”

So obviously the American people are pretty accepting of peaceful protests.

        1. Because now all of congress and the presidency are controlled by dems. The public did not really connect the riots with the Democratic Party obviously. This however is directly connected to Trump. To get elected all they need to do is show them some pictures and say “this is what you get from republicans”. The pubs stood by Trump to the bitter end. Now they are screwed.

Trump went full on crazy when he lost. If he had not done that and left with some dignity republicans would be in a better position next time.

Trumpies did and still do underestimate how many people just can’t stand the guy. Trump supporters are infatuated and can’t see that.

          1. Trump went full on crazy when he lost. If he had not done that and left with some dignity republicans would be in a better position next time.

At this point, frankly, who cares? If Republicans in Republican states can’t deliver elections that convince voters that their votes were counted properly, they are useless.

As I have been saying before, we’re witnessing the end of the US as a free and democratic nation; from now on, it’s just a question of how quickly things go downhill.

            1. I dunno. Been hearing that all my life when something happens. The creaky busted thing pretty much keeps going on. Dems and republicans switch chairs for a while then it goes back the other way.

              1. I’ve been thinking about that too. But as time goes on there is more and more “this has never happened before” kind of shit. “Unprecedented” is getting to be a really common word.

              2. Socialist states had multi-party elections, and they were neither free nor democratic.

              3. I do not care what happens to America. Let the country burn. I worry about my state only.

              4. Yep, but the pedulum has been swinging wider everytime.
Reagan was polorizing, Bush I was middle of the road (doomed to fail) Clinton was polorizing and a decent swing to the left, Bush was a hard swing to the right – so far to the right that his successor got the Nobel Peace Prize before entering office! Then Obama to the far left (at least perceived) and tRump perceived to swing to the extreme right (sorry, I never liked him), now Biden seems to be making an effort to go middle of the road. I suspect he will do as well as Bush I. The Republicans will oppose him at every turn and he will not have enough support from the Dems (to many far lefties) He will be hung out to dry.

          2. “The public did not really connect the riots with the Democratic Party”
Yes, they did. But it doesn’t matter when you forge votes.

“Trumpies did and still do underestimate how many people just can’t stand the guy.”
Yes we do understand that. It’s one of the biggest reasons people like him. If he’s pissing off swamp creatures, he must be doing something right.

            1. He pisses off every day Americans, idiot.

              1. You fucks just created Trumpism on steroids. You made 2021 worse than 2020. Congratulations, that’s quite an accomplishment.

        2. What happened is more symbolic than run of the mill riots. We get those all the time. This building is beloved symbol of the whole nation.

          1. Americans may like the building, but the people in it have an approval rating of 18%.

            1. True but symbols are very powerful in our minds. Look at what the protesters were carrying. Flags. What are those?

              1. And it’s the disagreement between what the building symbolizes (a prosperous, free nation with a long history) and the people who currently occupy it (self-dealing, half-witted authoritarians) that bothers people.

                1. Exactly and that is pretty much true everywhere.

People are always unhappy with the government for one reason or another and it never lives up to the ideals.

          2. It’s a symbol of fucking people over. Who would love that?

          3. You’re a brainwashed totalitarian moron.

        3. A burned out Whataburger in Portland isn’t a coup. It’s not a crime against the American system of government. It’s a crime against a hamburger shop.

And there was no organized political movement behind any rioting that accompanied the BLM protests.

This one has the president directly inciting it.

The “rioting” is relevant to the property owners involved and Republican propagandists who want to excuse their own bad behavior by equivocating.

        4. See it is one thing to question or investigate incidents of voter fraud. That happens all the time. But when it is taken to this extreme after nothing turns up it takes something away from the people who voted.

They say “hey. I showed up or sent in my legitimate vote” now you are taking that away from them.

          1. That requires some level of trust in “the system” even when it doesn’t go the way you want.

But trust has been shattered and Democrats don’t seem interested in attempting to rebuild it.

            1. Not as much as you think. People on the extremes are more likely to think that. Record numbers of people voted. They wouldn’t do that if they thought the system was bogus. Pretty much everything the Trumpies claimed has been debunked.

              1. Dude, how do you know they “voted”? You have no proof.

    2. Seeing team red vs. team blue day in and day out on a “libertarian” news site is so fucking annoying, statist faggots are statist faggots, whether they give you a tiny whiff of what you want, neither of them are aligned with our goals. Get the government the fuck out of our lives, that’s the solution and neither republicans nor democrats are interested in the least at doing that. They’re interested in amassing more power and forcing others to do as they please.

  23. Hopefully lovedicks1789 is gone for good.

  24. See I warned all of the “MASSIVE FRAUD” people about this weeks ago. If you genuinely want to see election security – which I agree ought to be something that everyone should support, left right or other – then make proposals grounded in FACT, REASON AND LOGIC. If you instead continue to go down the path of conflating “election integrity” with “STOP THE STEAL” conspiracy drivel then what will happen is, normal people will interpret cries of “I just want clean elections” with support for the conspiracy bullshit. JUST LIKE right now, normal people interpret cries of “I just want to get to the bottom of what happened on 9/11” with truther bullshit. And normal people will be tempted to object to otherwise sensible election security ideas just so they are not put in the position of implicitly endorsing or enabling the conspiracy theories.

The people who claim to want election integrity are HARMING their own cause by continuing to pollute the cause with conspiracy nonsense.

If you actually want election integrity, then you need to stop it with the bullshit statistics, you need to stop it with perpetuating the debunked and untrue claims, like “suitcases of ballots in Georgia” or “ballot shredder trucks outside the Georgia counting center” or “200k more votes than voters in Pennsylvania” (a claim that was made on the basis of a deliberately incorrect comparison of numbers, that continues to be propagated and spread for the sole reason to sow distrust in the result, not because it is in any way true).

    1. TL:DR

Could you maybe summarize this comment? Sorry, I really want to read it but it’s just a little long and the beginning seems to be looping through the same vague talking points. Is the whole thing like that? If not let me know, cuz I will go on and keep reading then but otherwise just leave a summary of the whole thing. Hope you’re doing well Chemjeff, and that you’re staying well in these uncertain times.

    2. From what I hear, sometimes you have to compromise your principles for political power.

    3. You almost had a moment of clarity until you started on the “conspiracy” bullshit. Do you know why Stop the Steal started? Because the relevant parties did NOT adequately address irregularities.

The purpose of many of the accusations was not that the specific incident was direct proof of fraud, but that there are unverifiable and unsecure methodologies that cannot be addressed. Most of the arguments put forward against accusations are strawmen that show you’re not actually listening to us, which definitely plays into the “I’m going to storm the Capitol” mentality.

With the “suitcases” claim, you have to read that literally to reach your conclusion of dismissing it entirely. Everyone is focused on whether or not they were real ballots and not on why a phony excuse was used to send Republican observers home and then to resume counting once they were gone. Anyone with work experience in govt (or anyone who has the oh so aptly named “common sense”) knows that the appearance of unethical behavior is just as bad as genuinely unethical behavior. Elections should be transparent. The lack of an acceptable explanation of the full circumstances surrounding the “suitcases” has caused irreparable harm to our democracy. The absence of Biden speaks volumes and is equally damaging. Since when are partisan fact-checkers our elected officials?

The only reason something like this even became a conspiracy is because the media dismissed the claims instead of addressing them. Yeah, something like the suitcases turned out to be false. Something like the ballot curing turned out to be true. Then there are issues in grey areas, like the security and accountability of Dominion’s software. The lack of transparency has only confused the issue further and cast doubt on the process. That isn’t Trump’s fault and he’s right to criticize it.

The gaslighting that has gone on is astronomical. We’re all reacting to bad practices and the media says we’re the kooks because we don’t trust them unconditionally.

  25. People who vote for the initiation of force get what they voted for. We who vote for individual rights gain those… just not as quickly.

  26. Trump has been banned from Facebook indefinitely.

    1. “Why don’t conservatives listen to ‘reliable sources’ — I mean when we do not ban them from them”

  27. Someone remind me why anyone listens to Mitt Romney.

    1. Because he was the 2012 Republican Nominee and did reasonably well in the election, which makes him a leader of non-Trumpist Republicans.

      1. Also a sitting US Senator, and thus someone who wields some degree of power and influence, especially in a closely divided Senate.

    2. He brought the Olympics to Utah? He helped Massachusetts with their medical insurance issues?

You’ve got me. I wonder if Utahans will continue to elect him? Probably. He’s tall, wealthy, and Mormon.

  28. What really astounds me are the number of people that assume, despite evidence to the contrary that because I find the riot at the capitol appalling that i don’t also find the other protest around the country appalling.

Why do people pretend to believe that just because you don’t support their man that you immediate support the other side. It shouldn’t take a super intelligence to accept that its possible to think both sides are wrong or to know that neither candidate is qualified for office.

    1. Because I’ve never heard of you before, nor has most anyone else, but we do see a ton of people who enthusiastically supported past riots now acting appalled by a reflection of their own behavior.

      1. Which past riots that vandalized the US capitol in an attempt to violently overturn a presidential election might you be referring to?

        1. Typical Leftist. If a Republican Secretary of Defense were accused of keeping classified data on a private email server, you’d say “No Democrat has ever kept classified data on a private email server while serving as Secretary of Defense!”

Technically true, but it took you a LOT of qualifiers to get there.

          1. Technically?

Unless someone I support stormed the US capitol in a violent attempt to overthrow democracy, there’s simply nothing equivalent to compare it to.

Why not just say it’s bad? It’d be easier for you to just stop supporting evil than to try to convince idiots that it’s OK as long as someone else is just as evil.

  29. Well, there you have it. Democracy and the court system has proven that they work. The swamp is being drained as I type this. Crooked Trump is done once and for all. Although the swamp has not been totally drained, it will be on 01-20-21.

    1. Poor Lefties. They really believe that propaganda works even though Trump is more popular than in 2016.

Start up yer woodchippers for the Lefty traitors.

  30. A libertarian website might be writing about all of the restrictions on speech and other freedoms that are being promoted/rationalized after yesterday. We might see some headlines like “No, this doesn’t mean it’s ok to censor.”

Does anyone know where I might find such a website?

    1. You’re going to need a TARDIS or some other time machine to go back about 20 years or so.

    2. Unfortunately it is now more likely to happen.

      Thanks Trumpies.

      1. The lack of election integrity in the US is nothing new; just look at 2000. The failure of state legislatures to act decisively and creating registration and voting procedures that are transparent and that people can trust underlies all of this. Trump has nothing to do with this long standing failure.

        1. He took it way too far. If he had been more reasonable the republicans could have gone on with a russiagate type thing. That is probably gone.

It wasn’t about the general issue. It was about Trump insisting he won when he obviously did not. He still won’t admit it.

          1. The fact is that for decades, we have had legal winners (and Biden clearly is the legal winner), but we have no idea whether that reflects how people actually voted. That’s because the way the US holds elections, they often come down to just a few thousand votes in a few districts, and there are massive opportunities for undetectable fraud. Trump should have STFU about it and sucked it up, but he lacks the common sense and political understanding to do that. But the people really to blame for dropping the ball on voting integrity are the state legislatures, in particular the Republican ones.

But an even bigger failure is that both Republicans and Democrats have pretty much embraced a toxic mix of majoritarianism and technocracy, instead of deliberative, representative democracy and small government.

            1. but we have no idea whether that reflects how people actually voted.

Yes we do. Stop the deceptive obfuscation. Stop deliberately throwing sand in the air to sow doubt and then wonder why everyone is doubting.

there are massive opportunities for undetectable fraud.

There are opportunities for undetectable fraud EVERYWHERE, in EVERY district and EVERY election. Saying that fraud is POSSIBLE is not enough. There must be actual evidence of such fraud.

          2. Fuck that. Abrams is STILL a hero to the Left and she STILL has not conceded either. Trump should never concede.

    3. Not here usually, dropped my subscription years ago… At least I haven’t seen a Dalmia (sp?) article in what feels like ages, so that’s positive, she was the worst “Libertarian” they ever tried to push on us.

      1. Katherine, JD, and Nick are the last libertarians writing for this magazine. Before the Dark Times, before the Empire.

      2. She’s gone, but I’m sure she’s out there telling everyone how evil libertarians are.

      3. She got canned a few months ago. Wonder what the last straw was?

      4. Shikha got fired, and immediately had the Daily Beast write about how she was fired for not being pro-Trump enough.

        The Daily. Beast.

        It’s where she always belonged.

  31. Don’t worry, guys. The crook, the putz, the mentally retarded evil Donald Trump will be gone on January 20, and then soon after we can go back to bombing Syria.

    1. Facebook and Instagram “perma banned” Trump.

The Commie propagandists are trying to prevent any more organized dissent.

Civil war 2.0 is on. Democrats lost Civil War 1.0 and they will lose this one too.

      1. They can’t do that. It denies people their constitutional right to petition their government for the redress of grievances.

They said so when Trump tried to block people on his Twitter.

        1. You might want to try reading the actual court decisions, dipshit. The rulings did not prevent social media companies from enforcing their own terms of service.

        2. They give presidents and politicians a special pass. It is an official government account. His twitters are considered official part of the presidential record. They are archived.

          1. I would think then that they’re too special to be memory holed then.

            1. I think there is some kind of record like any kind of correspondence kept by the government. I have no idea how they do it.

The whole Hilary scandal was about that.

    2. Yup, that’s why they let them in.

      1. So it’s a triple conspiracy then. And the ones who got in were actually Soros paid Antifa. I have heard that already.

    3. Tucker perfectly summarized how I’m feeling about yesterday. What happened was not an insurrection, a coup, or even terrorism. It was a desperate bid to say “stop ignoring me.” Our elected officials, outside of the few Senators and Congressmen who objected to certification, have completely failed us. Sympathetic, patriotic Americans who actually care about one another never would have responded to allegations of election fraud in this manner. They would have said “I don’t believe there was fraud, but let’s investigate these claims fully because trusting the process is of the utmost importance and I do not want you to believe that the new administration is illegitimate.” Instead, these bastards have doubled down the same way all paper tiger authoritarians do. The protest was 100% successful because it made politicians scared again. These piece of shit “humans” need to be afraid. They have taken so much from us and they are too insulated from reality. Now they’re going to become even more extreme, which sadly will do nothing but incite further violence. A mob of mostly unarmed protesters pushed their way into the capitol. There’s nothing wrong with that and the lack of access to our elected officials is disturbing. This was the only way to tell them “hey jackasses, I have a problem and you are doing NOTHING to fix it.” AOC was right, good protest is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable.

We should be so lucky to have kind protesters who showed restraint. They didn’t go ballistic when a protester was murdered by an officer. They didn’t burn it all down like we saw over the summer. Sure, if an officer is pushing you back, sometimes you have to push them back too, but you can tell that nobody came here looking to bash skulls. They just want to be heard. They want a real audit of this election.

The most deplorable part of all is the after the fact politicization of their protest. Trump is being blamed and possibly impeached yet again. This is like blaming Chamberlain for Hitler’s violence. Chamberlain was ineffectual, but he didn’t start rounding up Jews. Likewise, Trump didn’t pull allegations of fraud out his ass. Democrats started changing rules and the powers that had some ability to address these irregularities punted. Imagine if SCOTUS refused to hear Bush v. Gore. Sure, it was a stronger and clearer case, but it doesn’t change the underlying fact that there was a real reason to be suspicious and they took the process seriously, unlike what happened here. Trump has exposed the Uniparty for what it really is and everyone sees that they clearly do not have the interests of the people at heart. They just want to move on and go back to a politically safe administration that won’t jeopardize their jobs and call them out on their betrayal of the people.

There’s no point freaking out just yet because Biden has a real opportunity to show leadership here. He can be a President for all Americans, bring these people in and help to explain what happened during this election. He can support a bipartisan push for election reform. I’m not confident he’s up to the task given his condition, but I guarantee this much. If the Democrats become vindictive (and I suspect they already have), things are about to get a whole lot worse.

      1. To further elaborate on the politicization of yesterday’s protest, the media already has their marching orders to constantly refer to this as an insurrection or terrorism. They’ve also been ordered to compare this with BLM/Antifa riots to increase racial tensions. All the media shills are telling you that if these protesters were black they would have been shot. Aside from the anti-white racism on full display and the fact that there were black protesters, the two events are a false equivalence and what TDSers would describe as whataboutism if Trump said it. Nobody killed or seriously injured anyone except for a police officer who murdered an unarmed protester. Take note of how this fact is swept under the rug even though we’re constantly lied to about “unarmed” black men who were actually armed.

The media will repeat these claims ad nauseam and use guilt and other rhetorical tricks to deceive you into thinking they’re the majority. The media is still coping with the fact that over 75 million Americans voted for Trump. They tried everything they could and fully revealed themselves as the media arm of the DNC and the best they could do, assuming zero fraud, is eek out a win with a milquetoast candidate whose entire platform is “I’m not Trump.” They did all this and Trump, who ‘shouldn’t’ have been President in the first place because Hilldog won by 3 million, didn’t just add 15 million votes despite this massive disinfo campaign. He even surpassed King Obama by a long shot. Their contempt for the so-called deplorables has reached critical mass and they’re imploding right before our eyes.

The focus on race is absolutely degenerate and extremely subversive because it can only lead to further violence. When BLM and Antifa rioted, we all were able to admit that despite their methods, some of those conversations were worth having. People were seriously pissed off and wanted to be heard. Look at how America has reacted. As libertarians we now have a great opportunity to make criminal justice reform a mainstream issue that people actually pay attention to. Professional organizations and corporations are finding new ways to be stewards in their communities and take social responsibility. Lots of good things came of those riots, but nobody ever said we should be dismissive of the complaints of BLM just because the methodology was often flawed. People have fairly addressed the arguments and had civil disagreements. Contrast that with what we’re seeing right now. You should be appalled with how people are calling for Trump to be prosecuted, his voters persecuted, and his supporters excommunicated from America. This is not healing. This doesn’t build back better. It’s a suicide pill that prioritizes short-term career security for elected officials.

I have zero faith in this country’s people and for the first time in my life, I’m not proud to be an American.

        1. Nice posts, Sea King. A bit long, and I hope you’ve saved the text, as many of your sub points deserve repeating in other threads.

        2. The focus on race is absolutely degenerate and extremely subversive because it can only lead to further violence.

It is not lost on anyone paying attention that the talking points are amazingly consistent all over the media today, “If these were black people they all would have been shot.” I heard that exact comment twice on NPR this morning in only 20 minutes without even a hint at skepticism from the hosts.

The DNC want more riots to quell so they can cement their power and the media is complicit.

        3. Amen. Well said.

        4. Yes, the media is hypocritical in their coverage, but nothing, and I mean nothing justified the disgusting display yesterday.

        5. “When BLM and Antifa rioted, we all were able to admit that despite their methods, some of those conversations were worth having. “

Not around here. That was exactly what Jo Jorgensen said and she was bashed for it.

          1. That is exactly right. Giving any credence whatsoever to the BLM protests meant that you were “supporting Marxism” or somesuch.

            1. My criticism of BLM has always been the optics, which is the same problem I have with the protesters yesterday. It doesn’t matter what you’re fighting for if you go about it the wrong way.

BLM’s optics are still wrong on almost every level. The phrase itself has tainted origins because it was premised on a lie; a Hispanic-American defended himself against a kid who made the sort of stupid, impulsive decision based on that fight or flight response that boys his age tend to make. It was a tragedy, but wasn’t endemic of anything that suggested that black lives didn’t matter. Quite the opposite; the intentional lightening of Zimmerman’s skin tone and intentional misreporting of the incident started the escalation of racial tensions that is still ongoing today. Who knows where it will stop, especially now that the media is drawing comparisons between the summer riots and yesterday’s protest. The fact that we’re calling Trump an insurrectionist while giving MSNBC a pass for starting literal race riots that have resulted in countless deaths and untold economic damage is staggering.

Then there’s the phrase itself. What exactly has occurred to suggest that people sincerely believe black lives do not matter? Who is the movement referring to? What incidents suggest that we do not value black lives? There should be no surprise that such a movement is interlocked with Marxist organizations and ideology because only a radical leftist would devise such an insidious kafkatrap as the BLM slogan. I’ve tried to talk to people about this before and they still can’t answer these questions.

Then there’s the continued insistence on commandeering every single incident. If a black person dies, BLM is there. But what if the incident had absolutely nothing to do with race, as we saw with Breonna Taylor? What if it’s endemic of a larger policy problem, like the use of no-knock raids by predominantly civilian police departments? Or the harsh enforcement of drug laws that state and federal legislators have still mostly failed to remedy? What if the issue actually affects white people more often because there are simply more of them? Doesn’t matter, BLM makes it all about themselves. Me me me. This is what extremists and iconoclasts do. They aren’t trying to create change.

Finally, there’s the elephant in the room: black people who disagree with BLM. To BLM, these black lives do not matter. Their perspective is irrelevant and invalid. There is no desire for discussion or change, only to divide and destroy.

All that aside, the fundamental outrage is valid. People don’t die in police custody very often, but the reasons they do are often suspect and the procedures can be improved. Even if people don’t die, they can be injured in many ways. We’re all responsible collectively as the police are often enforcing the rules we wrote, so I can understand and even agree in a general sense of being mad at society for ignoring the fruits of our labor. In that sense, BLM has caused positive change despite everything else they’ve done to kneecap themselves.

      2. It was a desperate bid to say “stop ignoring me.”

Here is something that I think a lot of people, but especially Trump supporters, really need to confront. They do not represent the “real America”. There is no such thing as a “real America”. There is only America, with a multitude of voices within it. There are some good voices and some bad voices but they are all American voices and no one has the right to claim that THEIR voice is the “authentic” one and everyone else needs to sit down and shut up and listen to what they are saying. I am sorry that Trumpists think that their voices aren’t being heard. That however doesn’t give them the right to burst into the Capitol and disrupt a lawful electoral process. Their voices are not more special or more deserving of being heard than all the other voices out there. I don’t care if you are the saltiest of the salt of the earth types living in the exact middle of the country. You’re still just an American along with every other American out there. And yes that also goes for the pointy headed elitists living in ivory towers.

Sympathetic, patriotic Americans who actually care about one another never would have responded to allegations of election fraud in this manner. They would have said “I don’t believe there was fraud, but let’s investigate these claims fully because trusting the process is of the utmost importance and I do not want you to believe that the new administration is illegitimate.”

Can you tell me precisely what is “sympathetic” or “patriotic” about enabling and coddling the conspiratorial delusions of others?

        1. …but, again, you defended BLM who did the exact same fucking thing…except with dramatically more damage and killing.

          1. Guess we haven’t killed enough.

            1. That does seem to be the lesson being taught.

        2. The concerns these people had never would have become conspiratorial if they had been answered with honesty and respect. I still find it extremely weird how difficult it is to obtain objective information about allegations of voter fraud. I’ve watched most of the state hearings, I’ve read some of the legal filings by Sidney Powell, and I’ve also read about every single accusation on either Politifact, Snopes or FactCheck.org. I applaud the fact checkers for at least trying to address some of the literal claims made in these accusations, but there’s still a lot of evidence that hasn’t been addressed. Many of the sworn affidavits never turned into real civil proceedings. Unless you believe those conspiracies about Trump deploying the military against the CIA, I don’t think there have been any seizures of voting machines or depositions from involved parties. All I can really say is that I’ve seen a lot of things that concern me and I don’t feel that my questions have been adequately answered. I believe that a genuine investigation could produce the facts we need, but I’ve seen nobody discuss how one could go about starting this investigation. Does Congress have to appoint a special counsel? Can the President do it? To me, it feels like we’ve tried everything and nobody is really letting us dig deeper. It’s all lip service. It doesn’t look like there is truly a process for anyone to challenge the results of an election. There are certainly a lot of questions I would love to have heard an answer on from SCOTUS. I was only a kid at the time, but reading up on it, this seems like a stark contrast from Bush v. Gore. Everyone was serious, they addressed the issues quickly, and SCOTUS made it a priority because it’s important to make sure elections are free and fair.

I’m praying that Biden will pull a rabbit out of his hat and do exactly that. I would seriously respect him if he did. He has to be held to a higher standard because he’s decided to go there and say he’s healing the country. Once you making healing itself a false and empty promise, things get real dark.

          1. SCOTUS already played a part in this, along with 60 other courts.

You don’t want concerns addressed. They’ve been addressed. Trump’s loss has been coddled more than any other election in history.

And the only way any evidence becomes relevant is if it changes the outcome of the election.

Democrats have been trying to pass laws for years making elections more secure. Republicans block them at every step. They’re perfectly open about their voter suppression. No way in hell is any voter fraud outweigh the numbers of people whose right to vote they took away. Investigate them.

            1. No they didn’t, SCOTUS punted. They chose not to hear the merits of the case because of standing. Trump has alleged a level of brazen violations and criminal conspiracy that cannot be proven without investigative powers.

Fuck you. You don’t decide what I think.

Evidence is extremely important even if it does not change the outcome because confidence in elections is paramount.

Keep lying about what Democrats push you shill. They’ve opposed voter ID for decades and they’re the only ones loosening standards.

          2. In this country, elections are managed at the state and local level.

It is not, and was never, up to either Congress or the President to tell states how to run their elections.

  32. It’s super cute how the Trump cult is trying to say the only way to be a real libertarian is to be in the Trump cult.

    Libertarians for violent authoritarian takeovers!

I give Trump props for the extreme levels of cognitive dissonance and self-contradiction, a feature common to all forms of fascism, but there’s just so much lovely absurdity to this one.

    1. Cognitive dissonance is hot right now.

    2. Tony knows all about cognitive dissonance and self-contradiction as that is also a feature of gay pride.

Anyway this place will soon be writing articles about hookers, pimps, gays, drug users, Biden’s pets, once in a while about the deficit, how great the internet is and there are no problems on it anywhere, cops shooting blacks but not whites, China’s economy, open borders, why we should celebrate billionaires, maybe a tranny article or two now and then. Libertarianism is a big house except that mean ol Tweeter Trump.

      1. Not so big a tent that it should allow tinpot authoritarians and their bootlickers in, I think.

  33. The president of the United States is being denied his first amendment right to speak.

    The mainstream media is biased.

Mainstream social media has banned him.

Apparently only one perspective is allowed.

This is the new normal in the Democrat controlled shithole USA.

    1. All we have to do is really crack down hard on these MAGA people and we’ll be in Utopia.

      1. Do all these dumbfuck libertarians still advocate social media providers violations of free speech?

      2. They ban people all the time for any number of reasons. I don’t know if Twitter can at this time but he becomes a private citizen in two weeks so they could then. Actually the account then goes to Biden.

        1. He’s banned now dipshit, as president.

Not that you could ever argue how that should make any difference.

    2. That’s because the president of the United States incited a terrorist attack on the US government.

      1. Nobody has shown any evidence to corroborate that statement.

        1. I saw it happen with my eyes.

          1. You’re delusional as usual.

            1. Which part are you disputing, the terrorism or the incitement?

              1. What did you witness dipshit?

                1. It was kind of all over the news.

                  1. Yeah, you’re delusional.

                    Fuck off.

    3. Twitter and Facebook are private companies, dipshit. They have every right to block Trump.

      1. People’s inalienable rights are protected everywhere within the borders of a nation.

That’s a fundamental prerequisite to setting up shop.

Do you forfeit your right to life when you step onto private property? Dipshit.

  34. Shortly you’ll have a new dear leader and his rabble of Obama era bureaucrats to show you the way.

I would prepare yourselves to get outed as not sufficiently obeisant to the regime.

  35. So … turns out Orange Man really IS bad. Who knew?

  36. Since Trump supporters now seem to consider most of the ranking Republicans as ‘traitors,’ perhaps they’ll start their own party.
To which I would say “Don’t let the door hit you …”
Every country needs a viable conservative alternative and I would like to see the GOP become that again.

    1. The Republicans are not conservative. At all. Fuck all of them.

    2. I don’t think we need conservatism. Conservatism is good in theory. In practice it’s only ever a cabal to protect entrenched power interests. I’m not sure why that’s worth anything in a context where we’re supposed to be allowed to choose our own form of society collectively. And in practice it has a regular tendency to turn into fascism.

That said, the neo-confederacy remains a political interest in the US, and you can’t ban people from participation in democracy because you don’t like their ideas.

Except fascists, because they want to do away with democracy. We kill fascists. Conservatives should feel that heat on their heels so they don’t stray too far.

      1. “I don’t think we need conservatism…”

No surprise from a proggy shit like you.

    3. You are correct and the smart thing for the Republicans would be to remove Trump and make Pence President. Then after January 20th Pence would lead the party and not Trump.

    4. More lefty propaganda… Trump is a Republican ‘traitor’. Trump was the very best Republican platform consistent president in over a century! There’s always been RINO’S in the party – Trump wasn’t one of them. The whole purpose of this chicken-pecking Trump by lefty propaganda is to break apart the [R] party so the [WE] mob will find it easier to institute global communistic control which started clear back when the U.N. started making communist agenda’s.

  37. Only two more weeks of Trump.

    Let the Biden hate begin.

  38. Not a fan of Trump, even less of Biden and Harris.

In America, democracy is that Facebook and Google gets to decide who becomes President of the United States. Google, Facebook and Biden should be held responsible for this whole mess just as much as Trump.

The Split of the US was escalated by the Obama administration. Biden has no credibility as a healer of America.

    1. Biden is going to take a huge whopping shit on America.

  39. Live video = conspiracy theory
    Proven lies = conspiracy theory
    Sworn affidavits = conspiracy theory
Statistically unsound numbers = conspiracy theory
Live TV cuts to Trumps numbers = conspiracy theory
Corrected Biden to Trump counts = conspiracy theory

So…. Is there any evidence of fraud that won’t be a conspiracy theory? You know mass-media has WAY too much power when they can “CANCEL” all the above by name-calling.

    1. That’s what it is.

Both mainstream and mainstream social media have censored and blocked the president of the United States of America from speaking to the people.

The narrative is strictly controlled. There will be no further discussion about election rigging.

1a is the first right that must be canceled in a fascist state.
