Harris Leans Into Prosecutor Past at Vice Presidential Debate
Plus: a Google copyright case, the third-party vote, and more...

Separated by sheets of plexiglass, the 2020 vice presidential nominees engaged in a debate that otherwise felt normal—so normal that it was disorienting. For a moment, we all remembered what politics was like in the pre-Trump era. There was much less shouting, that's for sure. The whole tone was a lot more dignified, just dripping with civility and old-school talking points. Most people seem to think that's a good thing (though I'm not entirely convinced).
Vice President Mike Pence did the best he could with what he had to work with, giving well-worn Trumpian spin a calm and reassuring facade while hearkening back to an earlier Republican era. Pence is AM talk radio, the Bush years, and think-tank staff in bowties, not memes and Twitter trends and cultural grievances. He's soothing—and it scares me, in the same way that Sen. Kamala Harris scares me.
Pence is a good window into how Trumpism would sound if you divorced it from onlineness
— Astead (@AsteadWH) October 8, 2020
Both Harris and Pence serve as a reminder of how potent bad ideas and policy can be when they come in a competent and relatively uncontroversial package. For all of Pence's dignity and calm, he still was up there defending the actions of President Donald Trump and promising more of the same. Meanwhile, Harris leaned into the tough-but-progressive-on-crime look that she has spent her career cultivating—and enacting in ways not noticeably different from plain old tough-on-crime policies.
Last night, Harris again tried to have it both ways on criminal justice. She promised to decriminalize marijuana and made other nods to policing and prison reforms. But at the same time, she talked up her (highly destructive) past in law enforcement.
"I think Joe asked me to serve with him because I have a career that included being elected the first woman district attorney of San Francisco, where I created models of innovation for law enforcement, in terms of reform of the criminal justice system," she said near the beginning, adding that she was the first "black woman to be elected attorney general of the state of California, where I ran the second largest department of justice in the United States."
Harris promised that a Biden-Harris administration would offer more of the same.
"Having served as the attorney general of the state of California, the work that I did is a model of what our nation needs to do and we will be able to do under a Joe Biden presidency," said Harris.
As attorney general, Harris tried to keep people locked up in overcrowded prisons after a court said they should be released, fought against a ruling that the state's death penalty was unconstitutional, opposed making police wear body cameras statewide, refused to endorse sentencing reform measures, argued for the destruction of the online-speech-protecting law known as Section 230, refused to intervene in a case where myriad cops and prosecutors in her old district were accused of child exploitation, posed for photo ops with the Border Patrol, chased publicity with unconstitutional prosecutions, and made it a major initiative to punish parents whose kids missed school.
Harris bragged twice last night about having "prosecuted the big banks for taking advantage of America's homeowners." But the money she won in that case didn't go to help struggling homeowners. Instead, the settlement money was used to pay off state debt.

Pence himself tried to ding Harris on criminal justice reform, bringing up her walking out on a vote on a GOP-backed bill and saying: "When you were DA in San Francisco, when you left office, African-Americans were 19 times more likely to be prosecuted for minor drug offenses than whites and Hispanics. When you were attorney general of California, you increased the disproportionate incarceration of blacks in California."
But Pence just spent his previous answer denying that systemic racism exists, and he is part of an administration that's been horrible on crime in its own ways. Federal law enforcement just spent the summer snatching protesters off the streets and generally making an authoritarian spectacle of itself. Pence is in no place to be pointing fingers about inhumane or overly punitive responses.

In a decade-old case now before the U.S. Supreme Court, the tech company Oracle is suing Google for alleged copyright infringement. Oracle claims "that Google infringed on copyrights related to using roughly 11,000 lines of code from the Java programming platform to develop Android," explains The Washington Post.
Oracle, which acquired Java in 2010 when it bought Sun Microsystems, has sought $9 billion in damages, arguing that Google used the code without its permission.
Google argued that weaving that code into Android was protected under the "fair use" doctrine….The case, which has broad ramifications for the software industry, has bounced around various courts over the years. In 2016, jurors ruled Google's use of the Java code was permitted as fair use under federal copyright law. Two years later, a federal appeals court overturned that, ruling that there is "nothing fair about taking a copyrighted work verbatim and using it for the same purpose and function as the original in a competing platform."

"Four weeks before Election Day, third-party presidential candidates continue to lag in the polls compared to the spike year of 2016, when 5.7 percent of the electorate went nontraditional for POTUS," notes Reason's Matt Welch.
But while "Libertarian Jo Jorgensen sits at just 2 percent, while the Green Party's Howie Hawkins is at a temporarily high 1.4 percent that will revert closer to 1 once the next poll rolls over," they could still "be labeled 'spoilers' depending on how this high-intensity election plays out," Welch writes.

THIS WHOLE DEBATE IS OUT OF ORDER!
Didn't watch the debate, but I heard that the left has nothing to say about it. Pence deserves a Wingman of the Year award for that kind of performance.
I know somebody who works in Blue state transportation and they saw Pence at a seminar. Even that person who supports many Lefty missions of Socialism was impressed with Pence's conservative statements about Trump leaving many decisions to local government.
I think Pence was chosen as VP because he has no skeletons, he is articulate, he would bring Indiana during Elections, and agrees with Trump's policy desires.
Pence is definitely not a fighter like Trump against the Socialists but he held his own.
Pence is America's wingman

I like Pence. I might even like a Pence presidency. As I see it, the president needs to ace two things: adherence to the Constitution, and dignifying the executive of the free world. Pence is dignified in all the ways Trump is not. Hopefully he runs in 2024.
Why ever would you want government to be "dignified"? I think people should view government roughly in the same category as sewer pipes and divorce attorneys: something you sometimes need, but want as little to do with as possible.
A concern with being dignified is what causes leaders of democracies to sell out to other nations. People like Merkel and Sarkozy don't need polite small talk, more often than not, they need a good talking to followed by the finger.
The rest of the world cares very much about how the president comports himself, particularly other leaders. The president is like a salesman for the USA. Trump is a very poor salesman, and it's why our credibility with the world has gone down the tubes.
Pence is definitely not a fighter like Trump against the Socialists but he held his own.
I thought VP Pence was unusually effective in his takedown of Brain-Damaged Biden with regard to Kayla Mueller.
Did you notice how ENB did not even mention it? I wonder why.
I thought Pence was Trump's insurance policy against impeachment -- what progressive in their right mind would want to replace a lifelong Democrat businessman with a right wing religious fundamentalist? But I guess I was wrong.
In their blind rage against the Orange Man, they completely forgot that Pence is next in line and assumed it would naturally fall on Pelosi.

The debate moderator asked some interesting questions, but made no effort to get the candidates to answer them. I guess she earned her participation trophy for attending, but what a feeble effort on her part.
Her questions were mostly idiotic, but she largely stayed out of the way
She was pretty worthless.
Debate moderation has to be difficult. Chris Wallace was pushing the candidates and I've heard both sides say that he was biased. I personally felt like he pushed Trump a little more, but then again Trump was being pushier in general.
What's-her-name last night was basically just asking questions and then reminding them about the time. I think that is preferred if you want a fair debate. Most people watching are intelligent enough to realize the debater is or isn't answering the question without prodding from the moderator. I do think the moderator needs an actual method for keeping time, maybe a warning and then after 10 seconds cut the mic.
Debates need to be come actual debates and allow for candidate vs candidate time periods. There was little of that last night, and the moderator moved on to preferred topics quickly. That is a disservice in voicing disagreements between two people. At one point she gave a whopping 15s for a rebuttal which is ridiculous.
I don't know what the specific rules they agreed to were. It's hard to tell if she's enforcing rules or imposing her own will. I assumed the former. At least last night's debate was better moderated than the Presidential one.
It's hard to blame the moderator for limiting time when neither candidate really answered any of the questions she asked.
The extremely meagre time constraints are part and parcel of the bi-partisan (non-partisan my ass) Commission's strategy to remain (ir)relevant and avoid offending anyone. Imagine if you tried to get two candidates to hash out one or two issues over an hour: they would flatly refuse. That much time is a liability for a politician. 2 minutes they can work with; 30 is asking for the moon.
If her questions were mostly idiotic, she failed miserably.
Either way, nobody answered the questions as asked anyway. They took whatever she asked and spoke more broadly about the topic.
If I received mostly idiotic questions, I would do the same.
She was pretty worthless.
For a moment, we all remembered what politics was like in the pre-Trump era.
Moderator: Mr Republican please tell us why you are a nazi, racist, homophobe and a sexist?
(R) Generic: Well........Wait! What?
Moderator: Times up! Pronoun of your choice Democrat, what's your favorite ice cream color?
Ahh! Those were the days
Last night one of her questions to Pence was essentially: You're not a state legislator in Indiana, but if Roe v Wade was overturned, what would you do if you were.
It was an idiotic question.
To be fair she asked both of them the same question about their home state.
At least she acknowledged that overturning Roe V Wade doesn't automatically make abortion illegal nationwide. It simply puts it back to the states. That's certainly more accurate than the left normally portrays the issue.
Neither one of them answered that question, but I didn't mind because the premise was ridiculous.

Meanwhile in reality:
- Kamala was lying through her teeth, probably breaking even her own previous records in that area
- the moderator was sooo objective that she even called Senator Harris "Kamala", just like that, because why not?
- Pence was interrupted constantly by the moderator, because he was brazenly touting facts and bothersome questions to Kamala (to which she was unable to give a straight answer ever since)
- Pence defeated Kamala hands down, so much so that the msm could only speak about "that fly" and they're already trying to memoryhole the entire event
The American media is the most dishonest group of people on earth. So, to understand what is going on you have to look at not what they are saying because that is nearly always a lie. It is what they are not saying. In this case, they are all talking about the fly on Pence's hair and saying nothing about the substance of the debate. That means Pence destroyed her.
Maybe the media is lying about the scope of the threat of COVID-19.
You think?
What's this COVID-19 you speak of?
That was last year's version. We now have an upgrade available and are working on next year's model.
Correct.
How do they keep ending up with biased moderators?
Either Trump isn't as good at negotiation as he claims, or he's running against the media and wants their bias open and public so he or his supporters can denounce it.
Because literally everyone who works in the major media is a lying leftist piece of shit. They only allow members of the national media to moderate these debates and there are no honest people in the national media. Honestly, as bad as the ones they have are, they are probably the best you can do.
Thank God VP Pence called out Susan Page for it on national TV. The fact that Susan Page had no response at all was telling.
Biden's campaign would not agree to debates with the protection of the Lefty MSM.
Trump and Pence knew that they could get their main points about the economy and Biden/Harris records out no matter what ridiculous questions were asked. Trump and GOP knew that getting Sleepy Joe and Harris on stage would hurt the Democrats and it did.
I was a calculated risk and paid off YUGE.
Paid off with Pence, with Trump, not so much. He interrupted way too much, thus helping poor demented Biden avoid answering in full sentences. Someone needs to show him some long Biden videos where he starts out in one direction and soon gets lost in the weeds.
He is running against the Swamp still. You can't just undo the Swamp with a single blow. You can't really get rid of them completely, not even in two turns. So it is only natural that all the moderators will be Swampians, from planet Swamp.
On the flip side, I'm glad. I only needed to browse through YT to see that most commenters can see through the Swampians' charade, and basically the swampier their style gets, the more blatantly obvious their scheming will be. When even bystanders, non-voters and apolitical viewers get offended, it is a good sign.
How do Republicans like you constantly get away with having no serious ideas other than how butt hurt you are about journalists being critical of you?
First of all, when they talk about “the media” they always conveniently leave out all the media that is conservative friendly: Fox, AM radio, alt-right news sites.
Conservatives are always the victims — of the media, of the “swamp”, of the “Deep State”, even when they have the Presidency and the Senate.
What laughable projection. The left controls the entire educational complex, the mass entertainment industry, most of the mainstream media, Big Tech, and numerous global megacorps like Nike.
Yet we're supposed to believe that they're the underdogs here. Nice try, gaslighter.
"What laughable projection. The left controls the entire educational complex, the mass entertainment industry, most of the mainstream media, Big Tech, and numerous global megacorps like Nike."
Don't disagree about the left's dominance of education and entertainment, big tech and corporate culture. As far as news media, I stand by what I said -- there are plenty of conservative news sources, enough that a conservative can get all their news exclusively from such sources.
Unfortunately, Mollie Hemmingway will never be asked to moderate a debate.
It wasn't Trump who declined Joe Rogan's offer.
Rather transparent deflection from what you originally argued.
A.M radio stations......Lizzie do you think you are fooling anyone here?
And what does that have to do with debate moderators, you dimwit? Is Rush Limbaugh going to moderate a debate?
Neutral Mikey forgetting what handle he is using. Funny how this always happens.
Yes, no one should ever point out the bias of journalists.
Just don't exaggerate beyond what is true. There are a lot of left-biased media sources. There are also a lot of right-biased media sources. Any liberal or conservative can easily surround themselves with an echo chamber where they hear only news that reinforces their views.
Just don’t exaggerate beyond what is true.
Conservatives are always the victims — of the media, of the “swamp”, of the “Deep State”, even when they have the Presidency and the Senate.
Try not to argue about "exaggeration" after you unwittingly let the mask slip, gaslighter.
There now are a lot of right-biased media sources, but that took a lot of work. Left-biased media sources have been propped up and subsidized massively by government and elites and have a much easier time reaching people.
TV:
Left: ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS
Right: FOX
Radio:
Left: NPR, BBC, ABC, CBS, NBC
Right: FOX, some locals
Newspapers:
Left: NYT, WaPo, LATimes
Right: NY Post, Chi Tribune (OK, not so much anymore)
Yeah, it's about even. Haha haha haha!
The left-biased media get their facts straight most of the time, but are extremely choosy in what they present. If a story doesn't fit the narrative, they don't run it, or they run it preloaded with heavy progressive spin. The right-biased media don't so much ignore unfavorable stories, likely because they know they can't get away with it, as all the other outlets are having a field day, but they're more likely to buy into bad sources and get the facts wrong. As a result, the left-biased media outlets can claim a higher factual accuracy, even though they are incredibly one-sided.
If liberals behaved like you we would never stop whining about what Tucker Carlson was saying about us.
Fruitless as it is to point out, it’s also the case that rightwing propagandists and liberals who work in journalism have different standards of objectivity.
Jeff actually goes off on how Facebook is a right wing echo chamber because people dare share Tucker Carlson clips on there quite a bit.
If liberals behaved like you we would never stop whining about what Tucker Carlson was saying about us.
Ah, right, you *never* mention FoxNews. Much.
Also, way to completely miss the point (as always), which is that the media is overwhelmingly leftist. That is an objective, easily-verifiable (via voting and donation records) fact. I know, you and facts aren't on speaking terms, but why not just shut the fuck up rather than constantly marking yourself as a cretin?
Fruitless as it is to point out, it’s also the case that rightwing propagandists and liberals who work in journalism have different standards of objectivity.
That's the second stupidest statement you've ever made on these forums. Nice going!
If liberals behaved like you we would never stop whining about what Tucker Carlson was saying about us.
All I have to do is read Twitter to confirm that.
If liberals behaved like the right they wouldn't be burning down cities because the don't get their way.
FEED A COMMENTOR STARVE A TROLL
Nowhere in your prescription does it mention nose punching. Is nose punching no longer prescribed?
We just have one serious idea, namely that government and politicians should not have serious ideas.
The public saw that Biden was coherent enough to pass as "not senile" and Harris was reasonable enough to be "not batshit insane".
The press can take it from here.
And whadya know, the Debate commission the next day magically decides to issue the one demand that they know will cause Trump to bail out- that the debates be virtual.
There is absolutely ZERO coincidence that they did this AFTER seeing how Harris in the debate. Had she done horribly, they would have risked putting Biden up there one more time. But she did "meh" and that's all the Dems think they need to get to the end.
I don't see why Trump won't debate virtually. And I am not sure how you can say Harris did "meh". She looked terrible. If she did "meh" what would she have had to do to look bad? Physically attack Pence? Start eating the carpet?
Nah...POTUS Trump wants the in-person interaction because he knows he can absolutely destroy Brain-Damaged Biden face to face.
This can be resolved simply. Two negative tests in 24 hours for POTUS Trump and there is no medical risk.
He is already testing positive for the antibody. I would think that means he will test positive for the virus. He is going to test positive. I can't see how Biden gets out of the debate.
That said, Trump will take virtually if he has to.
John, you can have antibodies but still test negative for the virus. Different tests involved.
Yes. I mistyped. I meant negative for the virus.
Like I said after the first debate- Biden had two goals with the debates: prove that he didn't have dementia, and prove that he was willing to go toe to toe against Trump.
He did that in his performance the first night, and he has zero need to risk another performance where he could gaffe or stroke out. I mean strike out...STRIKE out.
If Biden's internal polling looked weak, or Harris's performance had damaged his momentum, they would be calling for more debates to try and mix things up. But they aren't doing that. They are managing this campaign, and think they have done enough to get across the finish line.
Or they just don't want to get caught with their pants down, again, on policy questions like raising taxes, banning fracking, and packing the Supreme Court.
We have the existence proof that Trump didn't destroy Biden in the first debate. If movement of polls is an indication of winning, Biden had a minor win. At this point, hardly anyone is going to change their minds on whom they are voting for.
Polls as proof. Insane.
"I don’t see why Trump won’t debate virtually. "
He has already said he won't do it- 5 minutes after the news broke. He doesn't want to do this because it lets Biden sit in a room with his analysts and staff, and read off a teleprompter.
"If she did “meh” what would she have had to do to look bad?"
Specifically endorse violence or fail to deny that they want to ban fracking, etc. She lied through her teeth multiple times, but only people like yourself who follow this stuff know it. The media will carry her water, just as they did with Obama and Biden. Just as Bailey(smh) was trying to defend Biden around fracking last night.
I think she had about the same debate performance that Sarah Palin did in '08- she lost on points, but did well enough to appear credible to independents as long as she had a compliant press to provide air cover. Of course the press wasn't compliant for Palin. But for Harris, it is enough.
The problem with her denying it, is Trump has about a million videos of Biden saying he will that will go on commercials and be all over the internet. I think anyone who either doesn't see those videos or somehow doesn't believe them is a Democrat and going to vote for her anyway. Your assumption is that anyone except a partisan Democrat will take her at her word and not take Pence's word that their website says they are going to do it and the multiple videos of them saying they will do it. That seems a bit unlikely to me.
No one believes the media anymore. Literally less than 10% of the country in every poll says they trust the media. So, I don't see how the media can carry water for her.
Honestly, do you really think anyone believes the Democrats won't ban fracking? Even Democrats don't believe that. Hard to believe anyone else does.
"The problem with her denying it, is Trump has about a million videos of Biden saying he will that will go on commercials and be all over the internet."
These undecided people who are seeing the commercial aren't on the internet. They are sitting at home, watching Wheel of Fortune. And right after they see the commercial, they will see their local news station, or the nightly news "Fact Check" these commercials. They aren't going to go on the internet to learn the truth. That is why they are called the Mushy Middle.
You may be correct- Trump may get his message through. But with Facebook and Twitter doing their damndest to "contextualize" Trump commercials, and the media doing the same, it will be very difficult.
I don't think the people you describe exist. Or to the extent they do they are known as Democrats. I don't think anyone who is even remotely disposed to vote for Trump fits that description.
Also, Wheel of Fortune has commercials last I looked. There are a lot of brain dead people out there. But they are known as the Democratic base.
"I don’t think the people you describe exist."
You are in the DC area, right? Believe me, they exist. They are my parents and some of my in laws. These are people who voted for Gore, then Bush, then Obama twice, and then Trump. They really are mushy middle.
"Also, Wheel of Fortune has commercials last I looked."
Exactly my point. These people watch that entire evening block of TV- WoF, Jeopardy, Network News. Any commercial they see is bookended by fact checks.
Anyway, you may be right- I'm just pointing out that as far as the Biden campaign is concerned, they have done enough to get over the finish line- which is why their friends in the Debate Commission have decided on a virtual debate.
I am not sure what you mean by bookending commercials by fact checks. I have never seen anything like that.
Commercial: "Biden is banning fracking!"
Commercial: "Buy my shit"
Commercial: "Tonight on 9 News, our political experts take on the campaigns' latest statements. Trump says Biden wants to ban fracking, but Monica deJulio says, 'not so fast!'"
Later that Night on the News: (Check Jeff's equivocating on the Fracking thread last night)
The entire news media is 24/7 leftist propaganda. Anyone who believes what they hear in the news, is already a virtual communist and voting Democrat. The people who can be persuaded don't believe what they see on the news. If they did, they wouldn't be persuadable.
Beyond that, if things are so desperate for Trump, why would he refuse the virtual debate? If Trump thinks he is behind, what does he have to lose by doing it virtual? All of the logic you apply to Biden not wanting to debate applies equally well to Trump refusing the virtual debate.
A virtual debate won't be a debate, John. While a debate is an opportunity to shake up the race, the Commission is telegraphing that they will not let that happen.
I've argued with people over Zoom. It is impossible with the 1 - 2 second delays involved. You cannot interrupt or take on pauses. Add to that the fact that you give the moderator the ability to mute you, speak over you (while you cannot speak over them) and for "technical glitches" to impact you. And then add to that the fact that Biden then has the ability to receive help from staff.
With all that added up, the risk of a Virtual Debate harming Trump is much higher than him making gains.
Finally, I accept that I may be wrong here, but I am trying to interpret the Biden Campaign's beliefs based on their actions. It is quite possible that both camps think they are in the right spot, and they do or don't need to shake things up.
I think Biden just doesn’t want to catch Covid from Trump.
How could he? A mask would protect him.
Are you trying to make Biden look like an idiot?
Not everyone can appear the supergenius that Trump is.
"He doesn't need any help from me"
John, I think POTUS Trump 'wins' on declining a vitual debate. He will argue - correctly - that the PDC is changing the rules of the game at the 11th hour (literally true), and the moderators are clearly biased (which they are). He doesn't lose.
Imagine him at a rally excoriating the PDC in front of tens of thousands of people. Not a good look for the PDC.
Trump loses if he in any way declines a debate, after all his talk before the first debate about how Biden was going to back out. All those statements will be repeated to make Trump look cowardly.
Idiots like you will continue squawking, and the rest of us will think for ourselves.
Your life doesn't matter.
It's not the PDC, it the CoPD.
Not the CoVID?
Heels Up Harris got bitch-slapped on two points. She had no answer.
SCOTUS
Kayla Mueller
Trump does not want to give Biden a situation where staff can help Biden stumble through. Hiding cue cards/telepromters off camera or whatever.
I told everyone that Trump would flip the Kungflu infection and getting better around on Democrats and how they are hysterical and he did.
Trump wants to hit home the point that this virus is not dangerous in the scheme of things.
This is just like the widespread conservative narrative that the election will be fraudulent, before we've even held the election.
It is only self-evident that the Democrats will cheat in a debate to conservatives who have a prejudice against Democrats.
Remember how silly it was when there were all the rumors about Bush having an earpiece hidden in his ear during his debates? This is just as baseless and silly.
Your life doesn't matter.
Remember in school when it was test time and the teacher had you clear everything from your desk?
The teacher wasn't claiming he/she knew you or all the students were going to cheat.
The teacher was removing any possibility to cheat.
And that made for an accurate and fair assessment.
The teacher was just making you be more clever to cheat.
By the time you figured out you already knew how answer the exam question.
Conservative Narrative huh?
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/02/hes-going-cheat/606643/
Do you ever say anything that is correct? Honest question.
Like when the CACLLs here didn't believe that Trump was the person behind the nation-wide eviction moratorium, not the CDC acting on its own against his will?
https://reason.com/2020/09/02/the-cdcs-eviction-moratorium-threatens-landlords-with-100000-fines-a-year-in-jail-for-noncompliance/#comment-8440047
With a leftist moderator cutting him off mid-sentence? With Biden reading from a teleprompter and surrounded by handlers?
And what's the point? Biden isn't going to answer any of the questions that matter. Biden's strategy is going to be evasion and hiding in the basement. That may be sufficient or it may not be.
Trump also really screwed up during the first debate by not giving Biden rope to hang himself. Trump probably wouldn't do better during the second debate.
I would HOPE that Trump's entourage beat him over the head with "Let the demented old man talk. After 20 seconds he gets lost"
The overwhelming, consensus from the first debate was that it sorely needed some way for the moderator to stop the two candidates from talking over each other.
I hear the media is deflecting as much attention as it can away from the debate, meaning it's not just that Pence won and Harris lost, it's that they don't even have soundbites they can use to spin a Harris victory out of it.
I think the better explanation is that they just needed that one decent performance out of Biden and they don't need another, so why take the risk? The VP debate was a one-off that doesn't need to enter into the calculation.
I hear the media is deflecting as much attention as it can away from the debate, meaning it’s not just that Pence won and Harris lost, it’s that they don’t even have soundbites they can use to spin a Harris victory out of it.
I can't think of a better example in politics of the Peter Principle than Kamala Harris. She's gotten to where she is primarily through fucking her way upwards, by running for office in a deep blue state with election rules that ensure a one-party banana republic regardless of who runs, and with a compliant media willing to kiss her ass and replay her grandstanding in committees because of her ethnic makeup and party alignment.
She's never had to deal with any real adversity in her career, which is why she had no answer when Tulsi shanked her campaign a few months ago, and Pence quietly and gently eviscerated her last night.
If Harris does manage to get the Big Chair, US adversaries are going to fuck her harder than Willie Brown ever did.
No, they will fuck US. Kamalala will retire to a fat retirement of giving $1 MM speeches.
Nah. She will have to slink back to her career in prosticution.
Sleeping your way to the top isn't part of the Peter Principle. Just sayin'
But it is a route that you can take.
If you're going to deflect, at least make more of an effort.
Maybe it applies because once you're at the top, there's no one else to sleep with.
Depends on how many peters you take.
That silly smile Kamala kept flashing made her look more of a moron than she already is.
Another win for Trump/Pence ticket.
Ridiculous loaded questions by Lefty moderator With Pence getting all the points in about a strong economy with Trump as President, deregulation, lowering taxes, and criminal justice reform.
Democrats are finished and will no longer be competitive nationally.
Dude, please pass the Owsley.
Poor Elizabeth, her favored candidate, Heels Up Harris, got her sorry ass beat by VP Pence.
You're full of shit.
Pence lost the debate the moment he felt it was appropriate to mansplain things to two women. And the fact that he, as a white male, felt entitled to argue with a black woman? Holy shit, the racism and the misogyny was just rolling off of him! Pence had absolutely no right to even open his mouth except to apologize for his whiteness and his maleness in that debate and the fact that he doesn't even have the sense to know his place is an indictment of Western Civilization, capitalism, and the United States.
Jerryskids....damn it, you're right. What could I possibly have been thinking?!
It's ok.
Resting Kamala face did her in.
It was your White Privilege showing through. Just say 5 hail George Floyds and make sure not miss any more struggle sessions for the rest of the year and you should be OK.
Thanks for the tip. I was seriously worried about how to atone for my grievous sin of rational thought. 🙂
Vote Republican.
I certainly will for Congress (House, Senate).
OBL, Jerryskids is coming to get you!
Harris should heretofore be known as Willie Brown's brown willy holes.
Funny. And gross. A twofer!
ENB consistently writes negatively about Kamala Harris.
Honestly could you be more annoying ?
Please don't issue challenges!
1. As both a district attorney and state attorney general, Harris pushed for a new statewide law that lets prosecutors charge parents with misdemeanors if their children are chronically truant. “We are putting parents on notice,” she declared. “If you fail in your responsibility to your kids, we are going to work to make sure you face the full force and consequences of the law.”
2. Harris strongly supports “familial DNA searching,ˮ in which police take DNA samples from crime scenes and compare them to existing databases to look for not just any direct matches in criminal databases, but any familial matches. Police have gradually expanded the practice’s reach, from checking DNA collected against existing samples of convicted criminals to checking them against samples in the databases of genealogy web sites and genetic-testing companies like 23andMe and Ancestry.com. California allows the collection and preservation of DNA samples from anyone who is arrested, even if they’re not charged with a crime.
3. Harris also has been a strong advocate of civil asset forfeiture. She supported a bill in California that would have allowed prosecutors to seize assets before initiating criminal proceedings — a power now available only at the federal level — if there were a “substantial probability” they would eventually initiate such proceedings. Besides cases involving violent crimes, the legislation allowed seizures in cases involving such crimes as bribery, gambling, and trafficking endangered species. Harris endorsed the bill after then-attorney general Eric Holder sharply limited civil asset forfeiture among federal prosecutors. She argued that the practice gave local and state law-enforcement officials “more tools to target the illicit profits [of transnational criminal groups] and dismantle these dangerous organizations.”
4. As San Francisco district attorney, Harris created “Back on Track,” an anti-recidivism program that she expanded as state attorney general. The program received $750,000 in federal funding and quite a bit of praise from crime-policy experts. But it faced criticism early in its history, when illegal immigrant Alexander Izaguirre, who had pleaded guilty to selling drugs, was selected and graduated, only to later grab a woman’s purse and run her down in an SUV, severely injuring her.
As the Los Angeles Times put it, “Harris’ office had been allowing Izaguirre and other illegal immigrants to stay out of prison by training them for jobs they cannot legally hold.” Harris said she had been unaware that Back on Track had been training illegal immigrants and that they would no longer be eligible for the program.
5. In 2012, she submitted a brief supporting an illegal immigrant’s application for a law license. In 2014, the California Supreme Court ruled in the immigrant’s favor, even though the California State Bar’s rules state that it is disqualifying professional misconduct to commit a criminal act.
6. In her first speech on the Senate floor, Harris declared, “An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.” She later avowed the belief that illegal immigration is “a civil violation, not a crime.”
This classification applies to only a portion of those in the country without permission. First, entering the country illegally has criminal penalties. Overstaying a visa is considered a civil violation, not a criminal one, with deportation as the appropriate penalty. But reentry without permission after deportation is a crime, as is, in most cases, working in the United States without legal residency, since it almost always involves some falsification of documents or lying on work forms under penalty of perjury.
7. Harris’s reputation as a tough prosecutor has played a key part in her political rise, and she continues to tout the high rate of felony convictions on her watch. But in 2010, SF Weekly reviewed the work of her office and concluded that “felony convictions for cases that actually go to trial and reach a jury verdict — a comparatively small group that nevertheless includes some of a district attorney’s most violent and emotionally charged cases — have declined significantly over the past two years.” The review found that in 2009, San Francisco prosecutors “won a lower percentage of their felony jury trials than their counterparts at district attorneys’ offices covering the 10 largest cities in California,” and San Francisco’s rate dropped further in the first quarter of 2010. Harris’s 71 percent conviction rate on felony cases had been boosted by a significant increase in pre-trial plea agreements.
8. In October 2017, Harris declared that she would rather shut down the government than vote for a spending bill that did not address the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and ensure those covered by the program would not be deported. “I will not vote for an end-of-year spending bill until we are clear about what we are going to do to protect and take care of our DACA young people in this country,” she said. And she has kept her word, at least so far.
9. In April 2018, Harris urged the Senate Appropriations Committee to “reduce funding for beds in the federal immigration system,” reject calls to hire more Border Patrol personnel, and “reduce funding for the administration’s reckless immigration enforcement operations.”
10. In 2010, a California Superior Court judge declared that as San Francisco district attorney, Harris had violated defendants’ rights by hiding damaging information about a police drug-lab technician and was indifferent to demands that that the lab account for its failings. The crime-lab technician had been convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence in 2008; district attorneys are obligated to hand over to the defense information about prosecution witnesses that could be used to challenge their credibility. Prosecutors’ failure to disclose the information about the technician led to the dismissal of more than 600 drug cases.
11. Some have asked tough questions about whether Harris, as San Francisco district attorney, did everything she could to root out abuse in the local Catholic churches. Prosecutors had obtained personnel files from the Archdiocese of San Francisco dealing with sexual abuse going back decades. But her office did not prosecute any priests, and she argued that those records were not subject to public-records laws:
In 2005, while she was San Francisco’s district attorney, Harris rebuffed a public-records request by SF Weekly to release personnel files from the Archdiocese of San Francisco. (Her predecessor had planned to make them public after prosecuting criminal priests, but the California Supreme Court stopped those cases when it declared unconstitutional a 2002 law that lifted the criminal statute of limitations.) Similar archives in Boston had exposed the scope of the scandal there. “We’re not interested in selling out our victims to look good in the paper,” Harris told SF Weekly in a statement — this, even though many of those victims pleaded with her to release the documents.
12. In 2004, San Francisco Police officer Isaac Espinoza was shot and killed by David Hill, a young gang member with an AK-47. Hill also shot another officer in the leg. Days after Hill’s arrest, then-district attorney Harris announced that her office would not seek the death penalty. This prompted Senator Dianne Feinstein to declare, while speaking at Espinoza’s funeral, “This is not only the definition of tragedy, it’s the special circumstance called for by the death-penalty law.” The comment drew a standing ovation from the crowd of mostly police. Hill was ultimately sentenced to life without parole. Feinstein later told reporters that if she’d known Harris was against the death penalty, she probably wouldn’t have endorsed her for D.A. in the first place.
In 2009, Harris again received criticism for refusing to pursue the death penalty against Edwin Ramos, an illegal immigrant and member of MS-13 who gunned down a father and two sons. As a teenager, Ramos twice served probation for violent crimes but was not deported. Ramos was sentenced to 183-years-to-life without parole.
13. Harris’s most financially significant decision as state attorney general came in 2012, when she negotiated a $25 billion settlement deal with the nation’s five largest mortgage companies (Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, CitiFinancial, GMAC/Ally Financial, and Wells Fargo) after the companies were accused of improper foreclosure practices.
By 2013, the state reported that California homeowners had received $18.4 billion in mortgage relief from the deal. When all was said and done, roughly 33,000 homeowners received an average reduction of $137,280 on their first mortgage. That sounds like a lot until one looks at the scale of the problem: More than 600,000 Californians received a foreclosure notice in 2009, and in 2012, when the agreement was struck, more than 30 percent of California homeowners with mortgages owed more than their houses were worth.
14. One bank that was not part of Harris’s settlement was California-based OneWest. A 2013 internal memo from the California attorney general’s office, first published by The Intercept, alleged that OneWest and its CEO, Steven Mnuchin, violated state foreclosure laws and recommended filing charges against him. Prosecutors claimed they had “uncovered evidence suggestive of widespread misconduct” and “identified over a thousand legal violations.”
But Harris, the state attorney general, did not pursue charges. She later told The Hill, “We went and we followed the facts and the evidence, and it’s a decision my office made. We pursued it just like any other case. We go and we take a case wherever the facts lead us.”
In 2016, Mnuchin — who would soon be President Trump’s nominee to be secretary of the treasury — donated $2,000 to Harris’s Senate campaign. She voted against his confirmation anyway.
15. For nearly ninety years, California state law prohibited images of handguns from being used in signs for gun stores. In 2014, after Harris’s office cited several gun shops, they sued, arguing that the law violated the First Amendment. Harris’s office argued that the law was needed to prevent handgun-related crime and suicide. Last year a federal judge ruled “the government has provided no evidence directly linking [the law] to reduced handgun suicide or crime,” concluded that the law was a “highly paternalistic approach to limiting speech,” and declared it “unconstitutional on its face.”
16. Starting in 1993, Harris began dating Willie Brown, then the speaker of the California Assembly and later a candidate for mayor of San Francisco — a relationship that brought her in contact with many of the city’s political and financial movers and shakers. Early in 1994, Brown named her as his appointee to the state’s Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, a job that paid $97,088 a year. Six months later, he named her to the California Medical Assistance Commission, a post which paid $72,000 a year.
Into 1994, press accounts described Harris as Brown’s girlfriend. He was still married, and in his early 60s; she had just turned 30. The relationship had a surprising and tumultuous end, as James Richardson describes in Willie Brown: A Biography:
Columnist Herb Caen all but predicted two days after the election that Brown would wed Kamala Harris, his constant companion throughout the campaign. “Keep an eye on these two,” Caen wrote. No mention was made of what Brown would do about Blanche, to whom he was still married. But the day after Christmas, Brown stunned his friends by announcing that he was breaking up with Kamala. Brown invited Blanche to appear with him on stage for his swearing-in and to hold the Bible. A television reporter from KPIX caught up to Blanche, who had kept a low profile throughout the campaign, and asked her what it was like to live with the future mayor.
“Difficult,” was her one-word answer.
17. Late last year, Los Angeles city officials asked why “armed, plain-clothes LAPD officers were dispatched to California cities outside of Los Angeles at least a dozen times to provide security for U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris at public events.” LAPD officers traveled with Harris to San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, and San Diego. Los Angeles taxpayers covered about $28,000 of the cost for airline tickets, hotel stays, car rentals, and meals in an arrangement that retired law-enforcement officers called “unprecedented.”
18. In 2009 and 2010, Harris contributed to the liberal blog Daily Kos, where she characterized the opposition to Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor as “bigotry and narrow-mindedness,” warned that Texas oil companies were “invading” California by funding efforts to repeal an initiative requiring reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions, and opposed Arizona’s since-struck-down immigration law, declaring that we “can’t afford to divert scarce local law-enforcement resources to enforcing federal immigration laws.”
106
19. Harris has proposed a sweeping tax reform that would create a refundable tax credit for all workers, peaking at $3,000 for single adults and $6,000 for married couples — meaning that taxpayers could collect cash even if they don’t actually owe any taxes. The worth of the credit would decline the higher a taxpayer’s income, eventually reaching zero for childless single adults making more than $50,000 a year, single adults with children making more than $80,000 a year, and married couples with children making more than $100,000 a year. The plan would repeal all of the 2017 tax cuts for earners making more than $100,000, would cost roughly $2.5 trillion to $3 trillion over ten years, would constitute a serious marriage penalty, according to experts.
20. In April, Harris made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where the hostess asked, “If you had to be stuck in an elevator with either President Trump, Mike Pence, or Jeff Sessions, who would it be?” Harris replied, “Does one of us have to come out alive?”
That all you got??
No. 20 is the most telling. Politicians who joke about death (like Mike Huckabee, Donald Trump, John McCain and now Kamala Harris) should not be trusted with power.
Pence won, Harris lost. ENB shills.
Oh look! A fly!
Black Flies Matter!
Especially if you're drinking chardonnay.
There are zero mentions of the fly in ENB's blog post this morning.
There are other news sources besides this website.
It must be as important as the illegal coup started by the Obama Admin and continued by the Deep State
She had her eye on Pence's fly!
Hear, hear!
Boy, this is really shilling for Harris:
"As attorney general, Harris tried to keep people locked up in overcrowded prisons after a court said they should be released, fought against a ruling that the state's death penalty was unconstitutional, opposed making police wear body cameras statewide, refused to endorse sentencing reform measures, argued for the destruction of the online-speech-protecting law known as Section 230, refused to intervene in a case where myriad cops and prosecutors in her old district were accused of child exploitation, posed for photo ops with the Border Patrol, chased publicity with unconstitutional prosecutions, and made it a major initiative to punish parents whose kids missed school."
Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn are revolting
Tell us how your really feel ENB.
Democrats in New York are literally going after Jews because they spread pestilence. That is one step away from claiming Jews drink the blood of kidnapped Christian children.
The Elders of Zion called and they think Bill DiBlasio and Andrew Cuomo may have gone too far.
This seems so crazy. Why would they go after one of their strong demographic groups?
Mayor Deblasio sent out his police to round up Jews for the safety of the superior races. Wasn't there a movie like this once?
Hey those dirty Jews are spreading pestilence.
Ladies and Gentleman, your 2020 Democratic Party.
Deblasio already changed his name once. Maybe next go-round he'll make it Mussolini.
Inglorious bastards?
Revolting? They stink on ice!
Finally. We agree on something.
“Tough but progressive.”
You are out of ammo, girl.
From Nolan's twitter feed...."can’t tell if the uneasiness I feel right now is bc this normalcy drives home just how bizarre our typical tone is in the Trump era, or bc this is it’s own kind of danger..."
No Elizabeth, that unease you felt was because VP Pence wiped the floor with Heels Up Harris. I am sure your uber-lib husband was in tears.
It was really bad, she had to put the weighted blanket on him for a bit.
Hollywood Hate Will Make Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron A Star
Daniel Cameron, the black Republican attorney general of Kentucky, appears to be a popular new target of celebrity opprobrium. Having spoken at the Republican National Convention and defended the grand jury’s decision in the case of Breonna Taylor, Cameron’s time in the spotlight is drawing Hollywood’s attention.
Lefties don't like the sound of that.
EXCLUSIVE: FBI Is Stonewalling Congressional Oversight On Hunter Biden
Certain corrupt bureaucrats in the FBI and ex-agents know that Trump's reelection means indictments against them, their co-conspirators, and reforming the FBI from a Democrat weapon.

BLM is rioting and breaking windows at what appear to be very nice houses in a small town in Wisconsin. If they will riot in a town of 43,000 and go into a nice nice neighborhood and break windows and terrorize people, they will go to any town in America and do that.
Come on where is Jeff to defend this and excuse it. Come on Jeff you lying piece of shit. Tell us how this isn't real BLM because they don't have official identity cards.
And where is Chipper to tell us how he supports BLM's values? Everyone needs to have their home vandalized and be terrorized by a mob because RACIAL JUSTICE or something.
Tell us how this isn’t real BLM because they don’t have official identity cards.
Off topic, but this reminds me of a cheesy training film I saw when I was in the Navy. It was supposed to show us how foreign intel agents try to trick you by pretending to be a friend/romantic interest.
The climax of the film was where the KGB agent confronted the woman he was "working" and demanded she pass him classified info. When she tearfully exclaimed "I can't believe this!" the guy yelled "You better believe it baby! Here's my KGB card!" (throwing an ID card on the table).
I laughed out loud, which the instructor didn't take too well, but I said, "Come on, do covert spies really walk around with Oh-fishal ID cards for their spy agency in their wallets?"
Chipper and Jeff must have seen that same video and believed it.
Was it like the Army training videos which pulled in random soldiers for actors? They put in some Oscar worthy performances.
I particularly remember this old black-and-white film that looked to be from the late '40s or the '50s on electrical safety. It showed this sailor "Joe" continually electrocuting himself by violating various safety rules. His fake "deaths" had us all rolling on the floor.
We got an extra laugh for the scene where "Joe" snuck into the officer's pantry and tried to make himself toast. He naturally stuck a fork in the toaster to pry the bread out and promptly died in a theatrical manner. We suspected this scene was added simply to discourage us from trying to raid the officer's pantry.
Nice. I still recall a couple Army videos. One was for SAEDA. The scenarios were comical in that the soldier was doing things so stupid, like your example of sticking a fork in a toaster. The other were workplace behavior with sexual harassment scenes with acting that would embarrass an elementary school.
But, but, but....The Hassidic Jews of NYC were out there burning masks in a 55-gallon drum. Oh, the horror!!! Hizzoner Putz wants to call out the National Guard to quell the rioting Jews of NYC.
Where is there any affiliation with BLM in this video? There isn't even a BLM t-shirt.
Don’t ever change , man.
That is funny. Wow.
caw, caw?
But John, did you stop them and ask them for their BLM membership cards? These were probably Trump supporters for all you know.
Mike Pence Just Wrecked Kamala Harris And The Media At The Same Time Over Their Charlottesville Lie
“You know, I think this is one of the things that makes people dislike the media so much in this country,” Pence replied. “That you selectively edit, just like Sen. Harris did, comments that President Trump and I and others on our side of the aisle make. Sen. Harris conveniently omitted after the president made comments about people on either side of the debate over monuments, he condemned the KKK, neo-Nazis, and white supremacists, and has done so repeatedly.”
Pence should have brought up that Democrats started the KKK but this was fine too.
I thought Pence's answer last night was good.
Trump's babbling non-answer to the easiest question in the history of debates about condemning white supremacists was not good. The media didn't have to take anything out of context on that one.
I thought Pence’s answer last night was good.
I love how you can't just say that without then talking about Trump "babbling". Does virtue signaling ever get old? I have never understood the appeal of it.
What virtue am I signaling? Did you like Trump's answer in the debate with respect to white supremacy?
It's relevant to the conversation. The question likely doesn't even come up again if Trump could have put together a coherent answer last week.
Trump absolutely screwed the pooch on that one and it's obvious to all.
Well... not all. Trump is at least partially to blame for the media attacks against him. No matter what he believes, in politics "do you denounce white supremacy" should never be a "yeah, but..." type of answer.
Or maybe white supremacy just isn’t the huge problem the hyperventilating left makes it out to be. Gotta have victims and villains, amirite?
Funny, I have not seen you denounce communism in the last week so I should assume you support it? Gets old dealing with the big lie after a while comrade.
ENB sucks. I pretty much just come here for the comments now.
Nice content-free CACLL signaling.
Is this your new mating call?
I didn't bother watching the VP debate, partly because the VP debate doesn't much matter and partly because I knew it was going to be a "civil" debate - i.e. one in which slick politicians feel free to sling unmitigated bullshit knowing that they're not going to suffer the indignity of being called out loudly and vigorously on their bullshit - but I really only want to know one thing about the debate - how many times did Harris break out with the inappropriate giggling?
I don't think she did. Her last plastic surgery seems to have frozen her face such that spontaneous giggling is no longer possible.
Nah....Horizontal Harris went for the Botox. You can tell by the 'Face Freeze' (deactivated facial muscles from injections).
She was smirking whenever she was telling an egregious whopper.
the smirk is permanent
She did smirk a lot, and made a lot of faces whenever Pence was speaking. I bailed after 45 minutes so I may have missed the outright giggling but she did come across as condescending and scolding (which makes me laugh when I hear all the leftist whines that Pence was "mansplaining", and their childish fixation on the fly).
It was because everything that came out of his mouth was a lie. Does that sort of thing matter around here?
Tony, you're the Reason commentariat's father of lies. Nothing you say is ever truthful.
Do you think it’s appropriate for the president to be calling for the arrest of all his political opponents a month before an election?
Who's arrest did he call for?
If you mean criminals like Hillary, Obama, Rice, Biden, Comey and Brennan, yes it is appropriate and long overdue.
But all but one are not political opponents, they've been relegated.
Now what about 4 years of calls for Trump to be impeached and arrested for something that didn't occur?
It’s depressing how easily stupid people can be made into cheerleaders for banana republic shit.
Great answer. Maybe your best ever.
Didn't you cheer on the Russia investigation for 4 years?
The things you think you believe about that are not the things that actually happened. Even the watered down Mueller report has more horror and treason than you’re willing to admit to.
Ask all of the dens, hilliary and Obama included.
It’s only unbiased if they’re stroking Trump shaft at every possible opportunity.
Sheldon Whitehouse? Xavier Becerra? Jay Inslee? Matt Yglesias?
Tracy Ellis Ross?
What are they indicted for?
That's nonsense, but what if it were true? Does that make her high school girly response impress you? It might impress people like you but it doesn't impress grownups.
FEED A COMMENTOR STARVE A TROLL
the VP usually doesn't matter.
in this case both Prez candidates are so old they are unlikely to complete a 4 year term. Biden may not make it to May, and if he does, Harris will go to plan B to have him declared unfit.
"Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn are revolting against Gov. Andrew Cuomo's lockdown rules."
Ok, now this pisses me off. Exactly how are you supposed to react when a putz governor and a putz mayor arbitrarily deny your rights of free association, free exercise? And the use of a red bullseye (complete with a bullet hole in the middle) has got to be the dumbest imagery ever used by a politician.
Then again, governor putz isn't exactly MENSA material.
Odd that BLM peacefully protests, but Jews revolt.
Amazing, isn't it?
If their religious gatherings had more Molotovs they wouldn't be in this predicament.
And they would be COVID free!
Especially when the peaceful protests cause millions of dollars in damage, and multiple deaths, and the revolts result in zero on both counts.
But then again, to be sure, on the other hand, I went to school so long ago that words had meanings.
Return of the Fly -- starring Vincent Pence.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8fT3HDnRKcY
Looks like someone got their talking points this morning. You dumb asses do take orders.
Jesus, you lefties are so predictable the Swiss could set their watches to you:
This is the second VP debate in a row that Pence has won, and you can tell that by the fact that the Biden campaign team and their Bluecheck Media Allies are manically focusing on the fly that landed on his head, rather than anything Harris discussed.
I think Harris' condescending tone and smug facial expressions turned off many undecided voters.
Despite continuous attempts by the moderator to help Harris and hurt Pence (by preceding all of her questions with false anti Trump claims and phony left wing propaganda, and by swiftly moving on to another subject every time Pence landed a huge blow or raised a key issue), Pence clearly won the debate, while Harris and the moderator lost.
The twitter link that ENB posted and her preceding comment kind of says it all:
Pence is AM talk radio, the Bush years, and think-tank staff in bowties, not memes and Twitter trends and cultural grievances. He's soothing—and it scares me, in the same way that Sen. Kamala Harris scares me.
Pence is a good window into how Trumpism would sound if you divorced it from onlineness
This is the second VP debate in a row that Pence has won, and you can tell that by the fact that the Biden campaign team and their Bluecheck Media Allies are manically focusing on the fly that landed on his head, rather than anything Harris discussed. As ENB indicated, he's done it by delivering policy issues in the most innocuous, unthreatening way you could imagine, which is probably to be expected of an Indiana politician.
If Trump loses, don't be surprised if Pence's name is brought up in 2024 as a GOP candidate frontrunner, because if Biden and Harris shit the bed--and there's no reason to think at this point they won't, because Biden is senile and old as fuck, and Harris is a petty, racist, vindictive, domestic terrorist-enabling whore--someone like Pence is going to look awfully attractive to people who just want everything to calm the fuck down.
It is kind of interesting how the script has been flipped on the dynamics of the VP. It used to be that your VP was the attack dog- able to land those dirty shots while your main candidate remained "Presidential". But here, Pence is the straight man. I guess it says a lot about how the climate we are in.
How many undecided voters are there. After the first Trump/Biden debate the poll numbers barely moved.
Polls are super important.
I guess I'm biased, but I thought the Dodgers-Padres game last night was about as awesome as you can expect a playoff game to be.
Came within an inch and a half of beating Kershaw, and San Diego would have had a legitimate shot at this series if they had. We don't have the pitching. The Dodgers built a Death Star, and the Padres are Luke Skywalker--as a boy. Give it a year or two.
Meanwhile, I still can't bring myself to watch the NFL, and that's all about the politics--and I don't think I'm the only one:
"Thursday Night Football (NFL Network) was down an astounding 70 percent from last year.
. . . .
Sunday Night Football (NBC) took a steep dive, falling 37 percent in viewership from last year.
. . . .
The CBS doubleheader also saw sharp declines due in large part to the shifting of Patriots-Chiefs to Monday night. A primo matchup vanished from the slate, and that sent the early game (primarily Chargers-Bucs) tumbling 32 percent
. . . .
The league still has the largest slice of a smaller pie. But it’s also clear that many of the people who once watched the league are, for whatever reason, finding something else to do with their Sundays.
----Yahoo Sports, October 6, 2020
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/nfl-ratings-week-4-the-slide-continues-203827189.html
There are all sorts of explanations for why ratings are down for the NFL--and people being disgusted by the politics of it is one of them.
HTTR
P.S. AT&T is offering DirectTV for sale. Their exclusive right to sell every out of market game through Sunday Ticket was a big source of subscribers. The going offer to buy DirectTV is a fraction of what AT&T paid for it just a handful of years ago--and I don't think that's completely unrelated to the perceived value of that NFL contract.
Yeah, I am done with the NFL, NBA and MLB. I am hoping the NHL doesn't go full SJW.
The NHL with the empty arenas made it feel like I was watching practice.
It's been that way with all these leagues. I suspect that, even without all the political sloganeering, ratings would be down anyway because it's like watching a bunch of glorified scrimmages or pickup games. The piped-in crowd noise just magnifies the fake atmosphere.
They did some fun stuff up in Edmonton for the obviously empty seats. I remember that prior to one game, they announced that it was 'Fan Appreciation Night' and the TV cameras zoomed in to a section of the arena where facility staff had placed a number of box fans in the otherwise empty seats.
AS bad as it is for the NFL, it is worse for baseball and especially the NBA. The NBA likely threw away nearly 40 years of brand building in a single summer. It is right back to where it was in the late 70s. All of the success built by Jordan, Bird and Johnson is gone.
If there wasn't a million cable channels. The Finals would be back to being broadcast on tape delay after the 11 o'clock news.
Besides the pandering, a big reason the NBA is going to go into a decline for the conceivable future is that the players have gotten WAY too chummy with each other, which has resulted in clown levels of team parity, and guys who consistently change teams. Players like Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan are the last type of players that provided fans with a cornerstone to latch on to, so they weren't just cheering for laundry.
You can't sustain fan loyalty on laundry, there has to be something of an investment by a player or two, and a commitment to them by the franchise, to be a link to the community over a period of time so that loyalty can be reciprocated. Most fans will understand that this is a business and players switch teams or are traded all the time, but the level of migration has gotten really bad since The Decision. What's the point in cheering for players who may not even be in that uniform in 3 years, especially when they're now wagging their fingers in your face and demand that if you decide to not spend money on their business, you're a racist?
That is especially true of basketball where the players don't wear helmets or pads and there are only five players on the floor for a team at any one time. Football loyalty is about laundry. Baseball is somewhere in the middle. But basketball is mostly about personalities and individuals not laundry, though there is some of that.
Free agency hadn't been around in the NBA during the 80s, so the teams had to build through the draft or try to improve through trades. The LA and Boston teams had a core of Hall of Fame players through the entire decade. The East in particular was a Murderer's Row during that time--you had the 76ers with Dr J, Barkley, Cheeks, and Malone, the Bulls with Jordan, the Knicks with Ewing and Bernard King, the Bucks with Sikma and Moncrief, the Hawks with Wilkins, and Detroit with the Bad Boys. There weren't too many challengers to the Lakers in the West other than Houston and maybe Portland, but Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver had good players on teams that were fun to watch throughout the decade.
Besides the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, a big reason the NBA grew its audience so much was that Stern was a genius in marketing players, and in the 80s it was so easy because these guys were trying to beat the piss out of each other, not colluding in the offseason to build super-teams. The NBA is about as close as you can get right now to a players-run league because everyone follows LeBron's lead, and look at the results.
Adam Silver is a pussy.
Let's players completely run the show.
Fans want competition, not a bunch of millionaires hanging out with their friends (then lecturing you on how oppressed they are - by you).
The NBA level of play is way better now though. The coaches have figured out the basic math that shooting 35% on 3-pointers is way more effective than shooting 45% on 2-pointers. And the refs now call fouls, unlike the 90's when you could basically mug the guy with the ball. Big slow guys with no skills other than beating people up can't see more than a few minutes at a time on the floor before they are exposed by shorter skinnier guys with actual basketball skills.
Now if they would just call traveling once in a while....
And the refs now call fouls, unlike the 90’s when you could basically mug the guy with the ball.
Did you watch 80s basketball? Those guys ran their asses off AND beat the shit out of each other. And the reason all those fouls get called now is because the players flop worse than a GRRRRRRRL POWAH action movie.
I despise the NBA for their slavish pandering to the CCP.
But it’s also clear that many of the people who once watched the league are, for whatever reason, finding something else to do with their Sundays.
Yeah, it's a real fucking mystery what that reason is.
Reactions to COVID took that normal sports-watching schedule out of the life of the league's biggest-spending fans, and all the race-mongering and finger-wagging gave them the reason they needed to stay away.
You can't sustain a billion-dollar sports empire by pandering to a single demographic.
With being stuck at home, nowhere to go, and new shows and movies in short supply due to the lockdowns, sports ratings should be way up. The fact that they're not shows how out of touch with their audience the league executives and players are.
Almost everyone is against racism and wants the police to treat everyone fairly. But most of us tune in to sports as an escape, not to hear more political posturing.
Not a fan of playing fake crowd noise like a laugh track on a sit-com.
Glad the SEC is allowing some fans into the stadiums.
Ken I am also watching baseball now that it counts. I'm a little sad the Pads/Dodgers series is 20 minutes from mi casa and they won't let me in the building
Ken I am also watching baseball now that it counts.
Counts for what? It’s just entertainment, dude. Millionaires playing a kids game.
the Padres are loaded. if they just figure out a way to signal what pitches are coming (like Houston, Boston and probably St. Louis did), they could beat LA.
That "true size of government" employee chart is particularly interesting in that it shows the core government functions aren't really all that large, and there's even been a slight downward slope in number of employees since the mid-80s.
It's the contracts in particular that are really driving a lot of the spending and waste, not to mention corrupt cronyism.
"The true size of government is nearing a record high" is only true if you're going by headcount, if you look at the total size and scope and cost of government, it sets a new record every goddamn day.
Medicare and Medicaid spending has gone from $651 billion in 2005 to $1.5 trillion last year. That kind of increase just isn't sustainable forever.
COVID is going to kill everyone soon, so a self correcting problem.
Only if Trump is reelected.
Government employees used to accept modest salaries in exchange for better than average job security and good pensions.
Now they get top rate salaries and gold-plated pensions, to go along with the job security. Even when the non-essential workers are furloughed during government shutdowns, they get reinstated with back pay for not working.
Any non-essential government worker should have been laid off permanently. New government workers should be switched to 401k plans like everyone else.
New government workers should be switched to 401k plans like everyone else.
That one they're actually doing, at least on the federal level. The last defined-benefit retirees, I believe, are starting to hang it up now, and all the new ones go into the Thrift Savings Plan, which is just a fed version of a 401K.
I know they have some at the state level, too, but it varies by state.
OT (somewhat) - if they lose the election, Democrats should invoke the aid of the United Nations (and the Organization of American States) -
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/06/opinion/us-united-nations-election.html
I saw that, too. Am I the only one that thought of this piece as I read the Belarus headline earlier?
Nope, you weren't the only one. The Democrats have been saying for months that they will only accept the legitimacy of this election if Biden wins, all the while insisting that it is Trump who is committing the horrifying sin of questioning the legitimacy of the election.
It is always projection with them.
It's amazing to watch people who've pitched a four-year long tantrum fret about the peaceful transfer of power.
How many Americans does Trump have to kill before you see the danger here?
How many times does he have to explicitly say he has no intention of losing gracefully?
He's only been in one election and there is only one loser that we have been able to observe from 2016. "Graceful" it wasn't.
The concession happened the day after the election.
What happened the day after the 2020 election?
Do you really think Trump is going to go quietly, no matter how far apart the results? What could possibly give you that impression?
How many Americans does Trump have to kill before you see the danger here?
lol you're not a serious person. These poor suckers here reacting to you like you're earnest.
Understand I’m not just talking about the people he may have actually personally killed by infecting them with a virus.
He already said you weren't serious. No need to double down.
Once. Once would be enough.
Bu so far, only the left is saying that about this election.
Only the left has DONE that with the last election.
This is ironic considering how far right wingers back in the 90s were roundly mocked (rightly so, I thought at the time) as the "black helicopter crowd" for thinking that Bill Clinton was going to help the U.N. take over the country.
Maybe they were just right too soon.
the Left is the black helicopter crowd now, seeing Russians behind every corner.
They're really broadcasting the fact that Coup V2.0 is a go if they lose:
Step 1: Get mail-in voting approved to guarantee a non-credible election result.
Step 2: Claim Trump's electoral victory is not legitimate.
Step 3: Use a complicit media to make it "true" that Trump lost but has become a dictator, staying in power.
Step 4: Appeal to compliant organizations like the UN to recognize their "necessary actions".
Step 4: Impeach, or otherwise remove, Trump by non-Constitutional means. Frame it as saving the nation.
America is fucked either way.
I think they will try that. But they don't own the courts anymore. So, anything they try will be blocked by the courts. Now, they can ignore the courts but they have spent 70 years convincing the public the courts and following court orders are sacred. So, I think all but the lunatic 30% of the country would turn on them if they did.
I don't think even they believe they can keep Trump from staying in office if he wins the electoral college. What they are looking for is a some kind of lie they can tell their supporters to keep them from turning on each other and the party completely splitting apart should Trump win.
If Trump wins, the far left is going to blame the center for running Biden instead of a real Progressive. The center is going to blame the far left for rioting and going nuts and causing them to lose a winnable election. The split is going to be so deep and so nasty that the party could split apart. I could see the far left leaving and forming their own Antifa party or something.
To keep that from happening, they will convince their followers Trump stole the election. If Trump stole the election then it isn't anyone in the party's fault. Also, it then creates the moral imperative to put their differences aside and resist Trump.
That is what I think is going on here. Not that these assholes wouldn't perpetrate a coup if they could. They would. But, I don't see a path where they can and I think even they realize that. What they are doing is trying to create a myth to keep the party together if they lose.
Step 6: Sotomayor, Kagan and Breyer claim that their colleagues are politically compromised and refuse to sit. Any decision by the court without them is presented in media reports as corrupt.
Step 7: Large swathes of the civil service refuse to work with the administration until things are "clarified".
Step 8: Obama appointed generals say that until matter's are clarified they will not act on Trump's orders despite the fact that even if he lost he'd be president until January. Punish any lower ranks that publicly complain.
Step 9: Biden begins to act as president-elect.
Step 6: Sotomayor, Kagan and Breyer claim that their colleagues are politically compromised and refuse to sit. Any decision by the court without them is presented in media reports as corrupt.
They already did that in Bush v. Gore.
Step 7: Large swathes of the civil service refuse to work with the administration until things are “clarified”.
That one made me laugh out loud. They would do that until someone told them they wouldn't be getting a paycheck. Of all of the crazy scenarios I have heard, civil servants refusing to work and get paid is the craziest. Not going to happen.
Trump has largely moved out the real Obama appointed generals. Beyond that, short of putting tanks in the streets, which the country would not tolerate, there would be nothing the military could do. Also, the military likes funding. The Republicans would likely control the Senate. No way in hell would the military do that and face the wrath of Congress in the coming years.
You are delusional.
Anyone who suggests a significant portion of the US military is going to take to the streets in a coup attempt hasn't spent any time around members of the US military.
A General might issue that order, I have sincere doubts it would be followed.
But I didn't say that they wouldn't come to work. Just that they would refuse to work with the administration. Maybe I should've used the word "cooperate" instead.
I hope you're right John, but I'm beyond pessimistic right now.
Just look at the campaign of lying here at Reason, where it matters the least, and imagine what's going on at Foggy Bottom, etc.
A comatose civil service sounds great. Even better if they are not paid.
But I didn’t say that they wouldn’t come to work. Just that they would refuse to work with the administration.
Like they have done for the last four years?
Step 8: the mostly peaceful protesters burn everything down
I mean Step 10. missed one post
Step 7: Large swathes of the civil service refuse to work with the administration until things are “clarified”.
Well, we can hope!
Step 7: Large swathes of the civil service refuse to work with the administration until things are “clarified”.
Now wait a minute, I'm starting to like this plan.
Only if they succeed. They won't.
Last night, Harris again tried to have it both ways on criminal justice. She promised to decriminalize marijuana and made other nods to policing and prison reforms. But at the same time, she talked up her (highly destructive) past in law enforcement.
Only Nixon could go to China.
Only Biden could profit from going to Communist China (and taking his son, who also profited).
"But Pence just spent his previous answer denying that systemic racism exists, and he is part of an administration that's been horrible on crime in its own ways."
It doesn't. Or at least it doesn't in the way critical race theorists have defined it.
I'm becoming convinced that postmodern ideologies are incompatible with libertarian thought, which explains ENB.
Systemic racism exists and only establishment politicians can fix it for us!
Has Jordan Peterson recovered from covid yet?
Deny science long enough and eventually you’ll catch a disease.
Tony translation :
"Random lefty bugbears, Jordan Peterson, Covid, Party of Science, now look over there".
It is truly bizarre how with everything that’s going on in the world, you people are convinced that the real problem is an obscure academic textual approach from 40 years ago. In fact you guys seem positively obsessed with what people are doing on college campuses. Are you afraid to debate the ideas of actual adults?
Just clear the nonsense away and argue for what you want to argue for, apparently: women should be subordinate because you think God cares about your erection.
Are you afraid to debate the ideas of actual adults?
What's the point of debating with people who never argue in good faith, particularly the emotionally stunted claque that makes up academia?
Read how everything is just strung together in a mass of irrelevant and unrelated accusations.
Either Tony's having a stroke right now or a bot is writing his responses.
Haha. I think it's the symptom of Tony building up his case against anyone to the right of him for the past several years.
Any time someone responds to an assertion, and he immediately starts talking about something else. He thinks it's relevant as it's part of his mountain of evidence that conservatives are both retarded and evil.
I wouldn’t bother with academia at all. You guys clearly don’t know what you’re talking about (Jordan Peterson least of all).
And as for the preoccupations of college students, one, good job with those fish in a barrel. I guess Republicans think they are punching up by fixating on the political activities of 18 year-olds, and in a way they are.
Two, you’re flirting with the same old anti-intellectual horseshit of many a rightwing ideology to have come and gone. Don’t you think you’re already too easily confused with fascists to be indulging in precisely the same grievances they have?
You seem rather obsessed with Jordan Peterson yourself, considering he isn't particularly relevant to whatever stupid point you think you're making.
I guess Republicans think they are punching up by fixating on the political activities of 18 year-olds, and in a way they are.
Yeah, indulging a bunch of emotionally retarded college students for the last 20 years has really resulted in a more cooperative, less divisive society that can actually solve problems.
Two, you’re flirting with the same old anti-intellectual horseshit of many a rightwing ideology to have come and gone.
Intellectuals are not a sacred caste. If they act like retards, they should be treated like retards.
Don’t you think you’re already too easily confused with fascists to be indulging in precisely the same grievances they have?
Again:
What’s the point of debating with people who never argue in good faith
When everyone who disagrees with you is a fascist, then no one is.
People who attack communists and intellectuals tend to be fascists, not just anyone.
I brought up Peterson because someone decided they wanted to share their opinion on postmodernism.
I figure that’s where they got it.
People who attack communists and intellectuals tend to be fascists, not just anyone.
So the Democrats during the Cold War were fascists? The farmers during the Jacksonian era were fascists?
I brought up Peterson because someone decided they wanted to share their opinion on postmodernism.
I figure that’s where they got it.
Maybe you should actually engage with the argument itself rather than projecting your own preconceived ideas.
Post Modernist though, Critical Race Theory, and Socialism/Communism are not obscure.
Everything is so terrible and unfair, tony.

"Systemic racism" is the "assault rifle" for the first amendment.
Since Roe v. Wade, has any VP (or President for that mater) even moved the needle on abortion?
The Jews are revolting!
Cuomo: I agree!
Federal law enforcement just spent the summer snatching protesters off the streets and generally making an authoritarian spectacle of itself. Pence is in no place to be pointing fingers about inhumane or overly punitive responses.
Is ENB trying to say Pence himself is to blame for the actions of federal law enforcement? Or is she trying to suggest that, because the administration Pence is a part of might have overstepped in the midst of widespread rioting, the policies Kamala Harris is directly responsible for cannot be criticized by Pence? Both these suggestions are ludicrous.
Does ENB really believe Antifa are protestors and not violent rioters and looters or is she just lying here?
The snatched protesters off the streets as they tried to burn down federal court houses.
Antifa is more of an idea
I finally figured out how to read the new and improved REASON without vomiting.
l just pretend I'm reading The Onion.
Reading the articles? What is this, Playboy?
Read the articles? Who suggested such a thing?
I stick with Headlines only and my rants are much better for it.
Seriously. I only read the stoessel ones. Everything else is a straight scroll to the comments.
"You said it, they stink on ice." - Cuomo, probably
You look like the piss boy.

"And you look like a bucket of shit!" - Cuomo again
"It's good to be the King' -- Cuomo added.
Ugh - why has reason become so attached to both-sidesism? Did it start with the rise of ENB?
Can anyone recommend a better libertarian website? Should a few of us get together and create one? It’s exhausting.
I recommend National Review.
because you hate Lady Dada?
Should a few of us get together and create one?
That's already been done a few years ago.
Black Friday is 10 days this year.
So the blacks only get 10 out of 365 days? Tell me again how systemic racism doesn't exist in this country.
To be sure, on the other hand, Whites get zero days, so - - - - - - - - - -
There are only 52 Fridays in a year, and the blacks get 10 of them. That's almost 20%, so even with mulattos, that is more Fridsys than they deserve
That's not what was said. A single Friday is turned into 10 days. No other race gets that.
with black history month that's 38 days.
Anyone running for public office as a climate change denier should be mocked and have vegetables thrown at him.

. But at the same time, she talked up her (highly destructive) past in law enforcement.
Say what you will about Harris, she's not an idiot. She's an opportunist. She knows... she knows that the crazy-pants lefty activities over the last couple of months-- the riots, the violence, the revolution-cosplay, the #defundthepolice movement, BLM, all of it was wildly unpopular on main street. So she's willing to take the hit with her crazy-pants lefty base while re-cozying up with flyover country.
I wish the Biden-Harris ticket were as far left as Trump also does. He’s running against Bernie Sanders still and they’re swatting that nonsense away pretty easily since they aren’t complete idiots.
The lefty/socialist crowd are not happy but are far more committed to ridding the world of Trump than their ideological purity.
The lefty/socialist crowd are not happy but are far more committed to ridding the world of Trump than their ideological purity.
Sure, Tony, sure.
I don’t know what this is or why you’re showing it to me.
It's an example of how the lefty/socialist crowd are NOT more committed to ridding the world of Trump-- they're very committed to their ideological purity, and in fact are attempting to "rid the world" of Jenny Durkan, a very left, Democratic mayor-- who is not far left enough.
The recall effort is being led by a group that claims that... and I have trouble saying this with a straight face- believes the Durkan was (hang on, I'm laughing...) "too hard" on the peaceful protesters.
So if you think the far left/socialist crowd is willing to compromise on 'ideological purity', I'm not sure where you live, but I can assure you, ideological purity is still the primary driving goal.
Yeah. In Seattle. Shall I dip into the goings on of Bumfuck, Mississippi to characterize your entire political movement?
Why, what's going on in Bumfuck, Mississippi?
Probably some really stupid shit.
You commenting there these days?
Ok, that's one of the funniest things I've read this week.
Yeah. In Seattle. Shall I dip into the goings on of Bumfuck, Mississippi to characterize your entire political movement?
Please do. Because Bumfuck, Mississippi is a great comparison to cities with weight such as New York, Seattle, San Francisco, etc.
I think the tyranny of rightwing rural citizens is a much bigger problem than the leftists, but I’m only referring to literally all of American history.
The Harris/Biden ticket is neither left nor right, they are simply opportunists that will go wherever the party tells them to; Biden said so himself.
Yes, since the 1950's, they have given up on worker revolts (since workers by and large are happy and well off) and are staging a "long march through the institutions" by corrupting the education system, fomenting racial unrest, and turning socialist ideology into a money maker for big corporations.
But even if Harris/Biden were moderate leftists, that would backfire. The reaction to substantially incompetent left wing government is usually a hard move towards conservatism at any cost. That's how we got Bush and Trump.
If Harris/Biden get elected, after 4-8 years, if they haven't corrupted the US political system at all, we'll likely get a hard Christian conservative. If Bush and Trump made your head spin, hold on to your panties, Tony.
If Biden wins, it will be a tragic comic orgy or theft and incompetence. What will follow that in 24 will make Trump seem reasonable by comparison. If leftists were not retarded, they would have worked with Trump and used his desire to be a deal maker against him. But if they were not retarded, they wouldn't be leftists.
You’re going to say that no matter how moderate and workaday the Biden administration is because you’re not actually interested in any policy. You’re certainly not interested in understanding who supports what.
Does it surprise you that your ostensible policy ideas are embodied in the most absurd human of the last century?

Yesterday he was a segregationist, today he is anti-racist.
Yesterday he was a empower the police, drug warrior today he is defund the police BLM.
The telomere study doesn't actually say what either the snippet above or the linked article claims. Both those sources imply that choosing to have a child late in life causes longer telomeres. The results are more plausibly interpreted to say that women who already have longer telomeres are more capable of having children later in life. (Although that interpretation also implies unproven causation in the other direction.)
Really, guys, if you're going to pretend to be a science reporter, at least look up the difference between correlation and causation.
FUCK, YOU I WAS RIGHT! FUCK YOU, I WAS RIGHT! FUCK YOU, I WAS RIGHT!

Imo there is no level of force which is not justified when dealing with communists. They have forfeited all right to live. Communism is a crime against humanity.
Capitalism has a pretty ignominious record too. Let’s just kill everybody.
Just lifting billions of people out of poverty. That is all capitalism ever did. Considering you are one of the worst people on earth, it doesn't surprise me that you see that as a bad thing.
I suppose you’ll get around to criticizing the call for mass murder as soon as you have deliberated on the matter carefully.
I just did Tony. My post was meant to be critical of you.
It has been an asymmetric fight since the early 1900s. The capitalists use logic, reason, past performance, and non aggression to show their views and hope others adopt them. The socialists have used violence, intimidation, propoganda, and mass murder. There is no live and let live in socialism. Why us violence okay for your side but not okay for the capitalists?
Violence is never okay you lunatic.
Tell that to your allies breaking people's windows last night.
He says as he sips his Vente Chai With Room.
State capitalism, aka socialism and fascism, certainly does!
You have yet to give examples of where free market capitalism has "an ignominious record".
Harris/Biden advocate state capitalism. Conservatives and libertarians advocate free market capitalism.
So we’re just going to ignore the sincere call for mass murder of people for having the wrong political opinion?
Easier than ignoring the actual murder of millions with the wrong viewpoints.
Think you’re gonna win by running against a government that hasn’t existed for half a century?

If Whitmer is going to govern on the "fuck you that's why" principle, they probably won't be the last.
Whitmer is a demonstrable tyrant.
Tony would have been shilling for the Royalists in 1776.
If a fucking mask is your worst problem in the world, you need to get a more interesting life.
Masks? Whitmer banned travel within the state to owned property while sending her own family to their vacation home and has held every business in the state hostage for 6 months. And she followed the Cuomo plan for murdering old people with other old people.
Go on, Tony, tell us how King George is our divinely appointed ruler and to go against him is to go against God. You are pathetic.
So are you endorsing her being kidnapped or what?
Oh, and big update--Brandon Caserta, one of the guys arrested, is a cop-hating anarchist.
How does that make him a Republican, now?

That would just be tit for tat in game theory. The commies started it.
I think the fascists started it and never stopped.
History doesn't care what you 'think'. The commies started in 1917 and have a massive lead over anyone else. Communism has killed more people in times of peace than every religious persecution in history combined.

Tony said you were looking for me? Oh, uh, and, commies should be gagged and shot in the head.
Well, yes, because it does not exist in the US.
"Systemic racism" is something the rich, white, privileged, profoundly ignorant American aristocracy believes they have a duty to oppose because it sounds bad.
And the uncomfortable fact is they're the ones who are racist, which is why they pivoted from screeching "racist" to screeching "white supremacist".
Yes, many journalists, politicians, and educators are clearly racist. But rather than coming to terms with their own human failings, they say "I can't help it, everybody with white skin is racist" and "it's the system that made me do it". It's a coping mechanism.
and "cracking down on the police unions so we can discipline bad cops and get them off the streets" sounds bad to Democrat politicians.
Actually, there is some element of systemic racism that does exist. For instance, take a review of Biden's career and much of his signature legislation. Then do the same for Harris's career.
Honestly if you are the kind of person who is primarily concerned with "systemic racism" you simply cannot vote for these monsters.
Systemic racism was implemented in the sixties and is still going strong, unfortunately Affirmative Action will only take you so far.

Has it ever occurred to you that being born straight (or white or male) doesn’t actually confer a natural cosmic right to decide how society is run for everyone else?
Like what? he asked.
The right to get married. More basically, the right to be treated equally under the law.
Everyone was treated equally under the law.
Marriage: The state recognized union of a man and a woman.
Any man could marry any woman. Whether straight, gay, or bi.
Does Peter not have equal protection under the law because he demands the government recognize his marriage to 3 different people? Peter is asking for redefinition, not equal protection.
Wow, an oldie.
So it’s exactly the same right even though it confers upon gays only the right to marry those people they by definition have no interest in marrying. Seems legit.
Yes, everyone has the same rights. I think you're getting the fundamentals of the argument.
Pence never did anything to take away the rights of homosexuals.
I hope you’ve never bitched about a mask.
Andrew Cuomo is straight, white, and male. Do you disagree with his penchant for deciding how society is to be run for everyone else?
He’s done a pretty good job at digging his jurisdiction out of a terrible covid outbreak.
Too funny.
Compared to whom?
"Has it ever occurred to you that being born straight (or white or male) doesn’t actually confer a natural cosmic right to decide how society is run for everyone else?"
"He’s done a pretty good job at digging his jurisdiction out of a terrible covid outbreak"
Principals over Principles.
"He’s done a pretty good job at digging his jurisdiction out of a terrible covid outbreak."
He denies digging all those graves.
Governor Putz managed to kill off thousands of elderly nursing home patients as a result of his criminally negligent executive order mandating nursing homes to take in covid-19 patients. Phailing Phil Murphy, another goldman-sachs reject, managed to do the same fucking thing. This asshole killed thousands as well.
If these progressives are doing so well, how come they both have thousands more dead and why do both states (NJ, NY) have a higher than national average unemployment. The only thing both of these assholes should be good at is digging graves...first for the thousands they killed with their executive orders [orders BTW, that were issued in plain contravention of the science known at that time from the EU in March], and second for the thousands of businesses that have been killed from their lockdowns.
Doing good at digging his jurisdiction out of a terrible covid outbreak. Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.
Unless you're old.
Isn't it the left wite people calling blacks niggers, tolkin pieces, and uncle Tom's?
It's funny how "you people" claim you're not racist because you support BLM and vote for Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton.
"Aborto-Freak"
No. Apparently he's against murdering babies.
FEED A COMMENTER, STARVE A TROLL
"Federal law enforcement just spent the summer snatching protesters off the streets..."
You mean the mostly peaceful protesters who were trying to burn down a federal courthouse?
Federal law enforcement
Oh, so they've identified the secret police?
Did they have notarized membership cards?
In this case yes. In fact, they were wearing their membership numbers literally on their sleeves.
If you have a problem with secret police taking people off the streets in unmarked vans, then maybe socialism isn't for you.

Is that what they're calling OnlyFans camgirls now?
has reportedly received more than 10,000 messages
Poor girl. She provided the number herself never expecting her PR stunt would attract the attention of election officials.
The video, which was created by a sex worker, was designed to encourage voters, and particularly black men, to "get your booty to the poll"
Wow, totally not a racist view of black men at all. May as well have said 'Tight Pussy, Loose Shoes, and a Warm Place to Shit'.
So Google steals 11,000 lines of code from Oracle and it takes a decade for the courts to ponder whether it's "fair use" or not?
It’s just a big jumble of numbers and words and stuff.
I can think of 10101011111000 reasons why it is a problem.
Google is now paying $17000 to $22000 per month for working online from home. I have joined this job 2 months ago and i have earned $20544 in my first month from this job. I can say my life is changed-completely for the better! Check it out whaat i do… CLICK FOR FULL DETAIL
wow, the Google HR department sinks to new lows
Honestly, the #1 reason to vote for Trump is to avoid any chance whatsoever of Kamala Harris becoming president.
Hear, hear!
Her policies are terrifying enough, but depriving her of the joy she would take in ruining this country is also good motivation.
She would enjoy being in charge too much and she doesn't deserve nice things.
Here’s a balanced fact check:

Of course it did.
Trump evidently developed a campaign strategy of running against Bernie Sanders and still can’t wrap his mind around the fact that Democrats chose a moderate instead.
Did he infect the entire executive branch?
Fine, lying was merely his primary strategy.
With his perverse ideology....? Then yes.
The executive branch now has herd immunity.
White house =/= entire executive branch?

Pressing X to Doubt on this one.
Compared to what?
They’re moderates on a spectrum that includes politicians in America, and they are moderate to conservative on a spectrum that includes politicians from the rest of the civilized world.
You may be confused because you don’t appreciate how far-right reactionary the Republican Party is right now.
“ "Where are all the arrests?" Trump said after several dozen tweets on the subject in the past 24 hours. “Can you imagine the roles reversed? Long-term sentences began two years ago. Shameful!"
In the early afternoon, Trump let go of his frustrations in an all-caps letter that didn't appear to be addressed to anyone.
“DO SOMETHING THE BIGGEST OF ALL POLITICAL SCANDALS (IN HISTORY) !!! BIDEN, OBAMA AND CROOKED HILLARY LED THIS TREASONOUS PLOT !!! BIDEN SHOULD NOT RUN - BE RECEIVED !!!”
He seems fine and you’re definitely not a liar.
Are you actually interested in learning about them or do you just want to engage in pro-Republican propaganda by insisting that they’re radicals despite the evidence?
He put a coherent answer in the both sides speech the hoax is based on. Media just conveniently denies that a transcript of the talk is there. They also denied he clarified even more 3 days later.
political opponents
Which members of the IC he referred to are running for office? The arrests are in reference to the FBI/IC.
The plot had included the other names mentioned, but only Biden is running. He didn't call for their arrest, just said they helped foment the plot.
Yeah but that was a softball question and anything more than a one word answer just gives the other side something to attack him with. He should have said, yes, unequivocally, I denounce white supremacists.
AND... this should have been an easy debate prep for him. Who is helping him with this? He's obviously not a white supremacist (whatever that even means anymore) but he should have known they would try to set him up about that and he should have been well prepared with an unequivocal and vote-winning statement about it. But he failed there. Big time.
The headline reading low-information crowd is all that matters when it comes to these debates and he missed a HUGE chance to mollify a bunch of hand-wringing fence-sitting white moms basically.
The Southern oligarchy wanted more power than it deserved in order to acquiesce to forming a country, meaning keeping slavery, then they fought a bloody civil war to keep keeping slavery, then they have been trying to keep black people from having democratic power ever since, to this day, with a fucking white supremacist hero as president in 2020. It’s all they’ve been about the whole time, and that includes you. There is nothing else. You don’t oppose the welfare state, you oppose the welfare state for brown people. You happily take all the welfare you can get for yourself. It’s only ever been about one thing, and it’s because we gave rural assholes more power than they deserved from the start.
Even so, a better more satisfying answer in that instance would not have hurt. A the lack of one did hurt him.
So we’re just going to sit here and pretend that it’s a normal libertarian thing to do to rush to the breathless aid of Mike fucking Pence.
He certainly botched the response in the debate. Do you disagree?
