Did the cop-killing rampage of Jerad and Amanda Miller spring from everyday right-wing rhetoric? Was it just the latest example of the "Constant cop-killing, by people who echo the NRA talking points and the conspiracy theories of the Internet wackos"? Did it show how "Fox news has finally yelled fire in a crowded theater"? Or is the political interpretation a bit more complicated than all that?

On tonight's episode of The Independents (Fox Business Network, 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT, repeats three hours later), we'll start off with some debate on that topic with Party Panelists Mark Hannah (former Kerry/Obama aide) and Deneen Borelli, author of Blacklash: How Obama and the Left Are Driving Americans to the Government Plantation. Those two are also slated to discuss Hillary Clinton's heartbreaking poverty, the GOP's $60 million initiative to reach black voters, plus AirBnB's move into the dinner-party market.

Daily Beast national security reporter Eli Lake (read him in Reason here) will come on to discuss the latest news about Bowe Bergdahl. Known crazy person Michael Malice (read him in Reason here) will talk about the latest U.S. hostage situation: Ohio lawyer Jeffrey Fowle, detained for the crime of having a Bible in his hotel. And Dan Caldwell, issue and legislative campaign manager of Concerned Veterans for America, will talk about the latest V.A. audit.

Aftershow begins on foxbusiness.com/independents a few moments after you say "AAAAGGGHHHH!!!" Holder gotta go.

Eric Holder made history in 2009 as the first African-American U.S. attorney general. If Rep. Paul Gosar has his way, Holder can add another first to his bio: the first cabinet secretary to be impeached.

Gosar, R-Ariz., tells U.S. News he plans to either draft articles of impeachment or co-sponsor existing impeachment legislation introduced in November by Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, which has 26 co-sponsors. He anticipates deciding between the two options next week

      William Belknap:

    2. Bo Cara Esq.   11 years ago

It strikes me as silly to impeach a cabinet officer. They serve at the pleasure of the POTUS, whatever they've done wrong should be the President's responsibility, and if they've done something impeachable and the President doesn't remove them then the President should be impeached.

      1. pmains   11 years ago

Removing cabinet officers was the original purpose of the impeachment power. You don't remove a hereditary king, but you can make governing more difficult for him by removing his cabinet members and banning them from holding office in the future. The next guy knows that breaking the law on orders of the president means a political death sentence. You could never remove the president himself, doing so would be tantamount to undoing the previous election. The president's party almost always has the 1/3 plurality to block such an action.

      1. Hyperion   11 years ago

No, what makes them so angry is the same thing that makes all proglodytes so angry. They can't get all the attention that they want no matter how much they try to demand it. They are angry because their all powerful state can't command each and everyone of us to like and even adore them.

Somebody asked about the MBTI this morning. I like this article about it.

The data indicate that there is no evidence of bimodal distributions for the MBTI. Instead, most people score
between the two extremes. This means that although one person may score as an E, his or her test results may be very similar to those of another person's, who scores as an I.

    Because
type is said to be a constant characteristic, we would expect that people's personality would not change over time. Several studies, however, show that even when the test-retest interval is short (e.g., 5 weeks), as many as 50 percent of the people will be classified into a different type.

    Research
on the factor analysis of the MBTI has not produced convincing results. In one study, based on the results of l,29l college aged students, six different factors were found. In addition, the study authors found a high level of
measurement error. Specifically, 83 percent of the differences among the students could not be accounted for by the MBTI.

    And so on.

    1. Carl ?s his privilege   11 years ago

(MBTI meaning Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, BTW)

    2. Carl ?s his privilege   11 years ago

And for those curious, while I don't know how the author of the feels about it, an alternative taken more seriously in academia is the "Big Five" or Five Factor Model, measured, for instance, with the NEO PI-R (which costs money).

Some Berkeley guy has a free test, though.

    3. Iucundus (ex Damned Fool)   11 years ago

If you need to quickly sketch a person and remember a bunch of caveats about its limitations I find the MBTI to be useful. If you know someone deviates from their profile's expected behavior, react to them and not to the sketch. And if you are bad at something your type is supposed to be bad at, work to improve it and don't use the MBTI as an excuse.

      1. Carl ?s his privilege   11 years ago

That's all well and good, but if there are better alternatives out there (which is indeed the case), why use it at all and not just one of them?

      2. Iucundus (ex Damned Fool)   11 years ago

I just don't type people who don;t display strong tendencies and only work with the letters I'm confident about. It's easier to make an educated guess about which profile someone more closely matches than it is to guess their numerical scores. Also what I consider conscientious or agreeable may not match with the Big 5 criteria but whether I approve of it or not it's easier to tell a thinker apart from a feeler and an inflexible person (J) from a more flexible one (P).

    4. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

My MBTI is 21.5 which, as you all know, is below the cutoff for overweight and well below obese.

      1. mr simple   11 years ago

My MBTI my last season was in the top quintile of all batters.

    5. Greg F   11 years ago

I took this bogus test ... evaluation ... what ever you want to call it, at my last job. I gamed it and it was unable to put me in any of the groups.

What I learned was if you work for a bunch of morons that believe in this stuff it plays into their ego. Essentially, the morons I worked for had no real skills. Basically emotionally driven twits who were arrogant and convinced they were better than the people that really made the place run. In short, enviro leftist.

It basically put all the people with real skills in worker bee categories. The dumb shits that were in charge were told they were the creative ones. Not hindered in their creativity by the constraints of actually knowing something. I can't think of anything that hinders creativity more than ignorance.

    6. lap83   11 years ago

I'm glad we're on the subject of MBTI still, because I just want to say that Obama is ENFJ.

And you know who else was ENFJ?

      1. wwhorton   11 years ago

All I know is I'm INTJ. You know who else is? Emperor Palpatine.

        Yeah.

Now and again I wind up INTP, which puts me with Yoda. Both are an improvement over my twenties, where I usually wound up INFP, or Luke.

    7. David Wall   11 years ago

David J. Pittenger's article is accurate.

Myers Briggs is cheap and easy to administer but is based upon Jung's unsubstantiated archetypes. It is unreliable and as a consequence cannot be validated to predict behavior.

Inventories of the Five Factor Model of personality, on the other hand, have been extensively researched, they have moderate to good reliability (above r .7), and some of its factors have been found to have been found to be inherited in crucial twin studies.

The FFM is about as good as it gets for personality inventories in psychology.

The Maleficent rape scene that we all need to talk about.

It's a Wicked-like backstory, and in it, we learn why Maleficent casts a spell on an evil baby. She's a fairy before the black magic begins. She soars through the forest with freedom and passion. She falls in love with Stefan, a human. He returns to kill her so that he can be king.

But he doesn't kill her. He rapes her of her ability to fly. He drugs her and leaves her so that he can bring her wings back to the king of the humans like Dorothy was told to fetch the broom of the Wicked Witch. She wakes up moaning, wailing. Stumbling. Utter devastation.

For fuck's sake! Mayhem is a crime in itself! Not everything bad that happens to a woman is rape! They ruined my second-favorite Disney villain! (Not the highest bar, to be fair.)

    1. Carl ?s his privilege   11 years ago

He rapes her of her ability to fly.

Not knowing the story, I'm confused by this statement. Does he actually rape her?

      1. Irish   11 years ago

No. He takes away her wings, and apparently that's rape now.

        1. Hyperion   11 years ago

Before long, if a girl likes you and you offend her because you are only thinking about her friend with the great boobs, that will be rape also.

          1. Almanian!   11 years ago

            Well, she was not....unresponsive.

      2. Suthenboy   11 years ago

You are not the one who is confused.

    2. Iucundus (ex Damned Fool)   11 years ago

No, Stefan is not Stefan Smith. He just cuts off her wings. By this logic, cutting off someone's legs is also rape rather than mayhem.

    3. Irish   11 years ago

But he doesn't kill her. He rapes her of her ability to fly.

This reminds me of the joke from the office where every time Andy says he wants something, he tells someone to beer it to him.

      Beer me that disc!

It's like every time something bad happens to a woman, it's secretly rape.

      'He raped my feelings!'

'He spilled beer on me and now my dress is raped!'

'I cut my finger off using a circular saw! I should have been more careful to make sure it didn't rape away my finger like that!'

      1. Hyperion   11 years ago

It's just rape all the way down.

    4. Anonymous Coward   11 years ago

So the moral of the story is...rape gives you super-evil-powers?

      1. Hyperion   11 years ago

Well, you see, you get super-evil powers by being born into the privileged male patriarchy, which everyone posting here has been. Except for Tony and Shreek of course, they're victims along with everyone else, except for us, the patriarchy. Oh, and the women folk here, they're victims also, but we have brain washed them and so they don't realize it yet.

        1. Almanian!   11 years ago

Libertarian women - if they exist in reality, and not merely in the rape-fevered mind of libertarian rapemales - are only libertarian because of self-hate and denial imposed on them through teh patriarchy.

Check your male privilege and you might see it, rapist.

    5. Irish   11 years ago

I had an uncle who stepped on a mine in Vietnam.

He was always pissed at the Vietcong for raping his leg off.

    6. Carl ?s his privilege   11 years ago

      Top comment

I'm sorry but...every single kids movie, every fairy tale since the beginning of time has some kind of scene where someone takes something from someone. It doesn't mean rape at all. I cringed when I read "he rapes her of her ability to fly." I've been at the receiving end of an assault and really, the film doesn't offend me at all. Articles like this offend me, looking for metaphors and anti-feminist imagery at every turn, finding it where there is none. It does nothing for anyones cause, in fact I think it antagonises people and I really wish it would stop.

      and a brilliant reply

I don't suppose the fact that he drugged her contributes? Take a film 101 class and stop being so self-righteous. edit: Excuse me, I don't mean to be insensitive to your incident. I just don't think you're right.

Sounds like a fun guy. Of course one of his "likes" on the bookface is "Were you dissing Canada? I couldn't hear you over my health-care benefits".

      1. Irish   11 years ago

Girl: I was raped and don't like you making light of my trauma by comparing me to a fairy having her wings taken.

Progressive man: Why don't you take a fucking film class, you stupid bitch?

        TOLERANCE!

      2. Hyperion   11 years ago

Look man, every fairy tale in history, written by the male patriarchy of course, are just rape manuals for young patriarchy members!

Snow White? Raped by 7 patriarch dwarfs!

Cinderella? Raped by the great pumpkin of the patriarchy!

Little Red Riding Hood? Raped by the wolf of the patriarchy!

I wonder what it's like to live your whole life benighted by the inability to understand that humanity is not homo reciprocans, even in the face of the absolute economic and ethical failure of involuntary socialism in every circumstance in which it's been implemented. I guess that's why they call them true believers.

The economicus/reciprocans gulf is so massive and so fundamental to the debate that I'm unsure whether Noam understands that even voluntary socialism in the form of families and monastic communities is difficult to maintain and has a strong tendency to break down. When half of all voluntary families fall apart, it's laughable to think that entire communities where socialism is forced on people wouldn't end in disaster.

"THE TUAM TANK: ANOTHER MYTH ABOUT EVIL IRELAND

"The obsession with Ireland's dark past has officially become unhinged.

"For proof of the maxim that 'A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on', look no further than the Tuam 800 dead babies story. Courtesy of a modern media that seems more interested in titillating readers with gorno than giving us cool facts, and thanks to a Twittermob constantly on the hunt for things it might feel ostentatiously outraged by, the story about babies being dumped in an old, out-of-use septic tank by nuns at a home for 'fallen women' in Tuam in Galway made waves in every corner of the globe. Then, a few days later, having finally strapped its boots on, the truth - or at least a more sober analysis of what might have really happened in Tuam - staggered on to the stage. And it was a very different story to the fact-lite, fury-heavy tale that had already gone round the world....

"On almost every level, the news reports in respectable media outlets around the world were plain wrong. Most importantly, the constantly repeated line about the bodies of 800 babies having been found was pure mythmaking."

    1. Irish   11 years ago

"I'm voting Republican ... because we just love cheap plastic crap from China."

I love how nativist progressives get when it comes to Chinese people producing goods.

Tell me: Why is it racist when a conservative says he doesn't want Mexicans making 'cheap plastic crap' on American soil, but when you throw a hissy fit about the yellow peril it's apparently super progressive and in no way xenophobic?

      1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

The Independents Attire Review, 9 June 2014

    Goodbye, Hatchet-Carrie-Edition

    - Kennedy: It is a little known fact that Kennedy, after leaving MTV, spent a few years doing the Mummenschanz ciruit. She still misses putting on her all-black leotard and her toiletpaper-face and doing a little po-mo dance routines to the melodic stylings of Karlheinz Stockhausen. Our opinion: we'd Putty That Face anyday.

    - Matt: We now have documented proof of both a New White Shirt, and a New Blue Shirt. *This, after months of nothing but me grumbling about Pink and Grey. I sincerely believe I had something to do with this, and I believe the proof of my point should be apparent: Does Matt look great? That depends - but i can assure you *he doesn't look ridiculous*, and that's a big step forward. The question: why is every single shirt collar identical? Is no one reading my stuff? You gotta mix it up bro. Maybe talk to the drug dealer sitting next to you...

    To wit=
    - Kmele: Is Kmele Foster Gonna Have to Choke a Bitch? The Pimp is strong with young Kmele. Whether this getup is apropos for a TV talk show may be a matter of debate, but that he Runs Shit Up In This Piece is most certainly not. what this enseble is missing is his thick Jamaican patois talking about how monogomy is a social myth.

      1. SusanM   11 years ago

That's easy - $20 and smaller criminal charges

        1. GILMORE   11 years ago

To be fair, water pipes are legal in some places.

    3. GILMORE   11 years ago

A bong typically uses a 'carb' such that you are either 'filling' or 'emptying' the air from the water chamber (aka 'bong hit')

wereas a hookah you draw from the pipe at your leisure rather than 'hit it'; you puff it like you would a traditional tobacco pipe.

      1. SusanM   11 years ago

Thanks 🙂 I went to a hookah lounge and got some pretty weird looks when I kept calling it a bong.

As it as she has curves in all the wrong places.

        1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

It's as if she tries to obscure whatever attractiveness she has.

          1. Bobarian   11 years ago

I question whether there is anything to obscure.

      2. kibby   11 years ago

I am, by the way, not rethinking my tattoo. So...deal with it. =P

        1. Grand Moff Serious Man   11 years ago

Yours is going to be relatively small and in a not visible location. Plus I actually like the one you want, it's very inspired given your degree.

  107. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

This fellow seems well intentioned but not particularly telegenic.

    1. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

      Way to be a stereotype.

      1. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

Politely stating a truth is stereotypical of what, pray tell.

        1. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Harsh and shallow internet commenter, of course.

  108. Derpetologist   11 years ago

  119. Bam!   11 years ago

    1. kibby   11 years ago

      They didn't last time.

    2. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

Yes, but they haven't finished guzzling their gin.

      1. Dances-with-Trolls   11 years ago

Ugh. I can guzzle just about any alcohol but the thought of doing so with gin makes me sick to think about.

        1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

Duh, that's why they didn't want us watching.

        2. SweatingGin   11 years ago

          it's not so bad.

For the sick thinking about guzzling, think Schnapps. Doesn't really matter what kind.

          1. Dances-with-Trolls   11 years ago

Somehow I knew you were going to take that position.

    1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

And that's one more fan than they're going to end up with if they don't start soon.

  122. kibby   11 years ago

    2. GILMORE   11 years ago

Because normally they cut off her last sentence.

      1. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

  124. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

  125. GILMORE   11 years ago

    Nope.

No, because you got more precious minutes to gaze upon our national flag!

At least the syndicalists could keep the phones working.

      1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

Because "anarcho syndicalist" includes "dial it!"

Hey, that's awesome, i'm glad she's shaping up to be more than just a pretty face young star.

      Is that her first major?

      1. GILMORE   11 years ago

        I mean aside from wimbledon...

      2. GILMORE   11 years ago

OK, I looked it up. 5. Silly me.

        1. Irish   11 years ago

Yeah, you're only about 8 years late, Gilmore.

          1. GILMORE   11 years ago

I was under the impression that she'd won Wimbledon 8 years ago and done nothing since.

Instead, she's won majors every other year since. I confess, i dont really follow women's tennis, or mens tennis for that matter, since i no longer get free tickets for the US open anymore. For a while (like 6 years) i went every year and pretended to some tennis fandom. Not so much anymore.

Fucking LOL at this dipshit Lt Col Robert Bateman from the Esquire link:

"I have been overseas in Afghanistan and in NATO nations for half a decade while the insanity of the National Rifle Association expanded and exploded, and the NRA became, essentially, the tool of death in the United States. They made mass killings normal.

Well done, NRA. But this shit is too much.

Constant cop-killing, by people who echo the NRA talking points and the conspiracy theories of the Internet wackos.

That dumbass has a whole passel of strawman he had no problem burning down in the name of stroking his authoritarian ban-boner--I guess it's rather appropriate he's spent the last "half-decade" scratching that itch against people who'd rather he fuck off back home.

      1. Red Rocks Rockin   11 years ago

You should read the comments he posts under the article. They're equally as derpy and paranoid.

    3. Red Rocks Rockin   11 years ago

He doubles down on the shitlib inanities in the comments, too:

Robin, is that not what you are trying to do? Suppress speech through your statements of support of guns, and advocating your own guns (and de facto, given the environment, violence towards) over people who, like me, who have no guns? I should think that this avocation of the use and possession of guns, towards people like me who do not have guns, is the essence of the bullying exhibited by the fascists. Wouldn't you?

Proof that proglydytes lack any self-awareness whatsoever.

An equally worthless defense strategy, psychologically soothing, yet bereft of any meaningful protection.. They should call them 'Comfort Blankets?'

  138. Andrew S.   11 years ago

    Fuck the Rangers.

Don't love an LA team winning, but the Kings are almost Flyers West, and they give me a glimpse of what could be if the Flyers had a competent front office.

  139. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

This is a classic case of one team getting all the bounces. Them being L.A.

  140. Pl?ya Manhattan.   11 years ago

I hope not. The plan was to win in 5 so the fans can be there.

  151. Dances-with-Trolls   11 years ago

Well that looks like the sort of problem every coach in the league would like to have.

  152. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

Stoll. Meh. I figured he can go as high as 3rd since his production has come off. Still, that's deep up the middle.

  153. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

Yeah, when Justin Williams is 3rd line you got depth. Though 1st or 4th line doesn't matter much if a coach rolls all lines.

  154. GILMORE   11 years ago

That's a little bit of a stretch there, Canuck.

i think the America's Cup has you beat on both Time and Travel and international drama.

  155. Dances-with-Trolls   11 years ago

On a hunch looked up the Kings' GA: 2.02GA on the season. With that goal tending and strength up the middle it's hardly a surprise.

highlights from the series and the final race

Last year was probably the greatest series since the 1980s. A guy got killed. There were a half dozen crashes/capsizes. Average boat speeds are now 30-40 knots downwind, on hydrofoil. The crews are full of Olympic athletes and these boats require ridiculous levels of physical exertion to run.

Its F1 on water. If you think guys 'driving cars' is a sport, yet sneer at this, you're fucking high.

  160. Raven Nation   11 years ago

Yeah, well, if you can't hold a 4-2 lead in the 3rd, you've got problems.
