Obama, You're No Stranger to the Bong: An Open Letter to the President
This week, President Obama had some interesting things to say about marijuana, legalization, and exactly who is in charge of deescalating the war on drugs. Back in early 2009, Reason TV wrote an open letter to the president imploring him to help reform marijuana laws.
Here is the text from that video, originally released on March 3, 2009:
Thank you, President Obama, for keeping your campaign pledge to end raids on medical marijuana dispensaries that are legal under state laws in California and elsewhere. Thank you for reversing an inhumane policy established by the Clinton administration and continued by the Bush administration.
Given the experience you and other elected officials have had with illegal drugs and your willingness to challenge the status quo, now is the time to reconsider decades of prohibitionist drug policies that have succeeded only in massively increasing the toll of human misery, violence, and hypocrisy. As with alcohol prohibition, the drug war
intensifies and exacerbates every negative outcome it is ostensibly designed to combat.
President Obama, do the right thing and end the war on drugs.

Does anybody watch futurescape with James Woods? What's with all the hand wringing by the ethicist about what people could do with future tech? I like seeing what is on the horizon but hate the pants wetting.
You'll feel differently in a few years when that ethicist teleports her soiled pants into your refrigerator.
"Ethicists" are self-appointed moral scolds whose sole purpose is to hand-wring. What the fuck else would they do?
"Hey, ethicist dude, what do you think of transhumanism?"
"Sounds pretty cool. I have no negative feelings about it."
"Cool. What is it you do again?"
The job literally has to hand-wring over things, or it has no purpose. (Protip: it actually has no purpose.)
Basically, I mean if there wasn't a *wrong* way to use technology then the ethicists wouldn't have a reason to be on tv and have you send them your money.
At least BO finally found something that's not within his power to do.
In other news, I heard BO complaining about the fact that the minimum wage is worth 20% less now than it was in 1980. Here's a solution, genius: leave the minwage where it is and stop fucking inflating the dollar. Problem solved.
"In other news, I heard BO complaining about the fact that the minimum wage is worth 20% less now than it was in 1980."
Yeah, I complained that it was too high then, also.
In 1980 I poor people didn't have cell phones, internet, or flat screen televisions. Money is not wealth. Dipshit.
No one had any of those things. Now poor people do.
Money is not wealth.
Dipshit.
Dipshit.
The Teleprompter-in-Chief has no power to inflate the dollar. That's up to his owners to decide.

He could have appointed Ron Paul to the Fed chairmanship but chose Yellen instead, so he is responsible.
Oh yeah, that old mythical inflation monster.
INFLATION RUINING OUR LIVES, BOYS!
Yep that mythical monster - unless you happen to live in, say, Zimbabwe or Argentina right now, right?
Fuck you're retarded.
So tell me how $4 an hour in 1980 was worth 20% more than $7.25 an hour in 2013.
If you can do this without saying BO was lying/misrepresenting or blaming inflation, I'll totally coauthor the paper on this phenomenon with you -- cause you've blown our entire understanding of mathematics out of the water if you can do it.
Ya know, I'm not a *fan* of the gold standard (or similar commodity based standards) but at least it makes it harder to inflate the value of my savings away.
The was Mises's basic argument in favor of a commodity standard (e.g., gold) To increase the money supply you have to dig the precious metal out of the ground. The costs of doing so put an upper limit on monetary expansion. Ironically, Milton Friedman saw this limitation in a negative light.
Yeah I got a feeling Him and Michelle roll up a big fat one on a regular basis! Bet that Presidential pot is badd ass too!

They make Jay Carney stand there and watch them do it.
Then they have poor Jay go out and lie for them.
I think the prez is stoned now
Barry loves all the attention focused on his marijuana use. As long as the world is encouraged to focus on his weed use there will be no discussion concerning his use of substances considered to be seriously taboo drugs such as "crack" cocaine.
"Thank you, President Obama, for keeping your campaign pledge to end raids on medical marijuana dispensaries that are legal under state laws in California and elsewhere. Thank you for reversing an inhumane policy established by the Clinton administration and continued by the Bush administration."
Boy, isn't it ironic to read those words today.
