A couple of things Leary fans should check out:

One his book Flashbacks which is an autobiography as well as a compendium of all things psychedelic.

Two, an album(!) believe it or not that he put out around 1970 called "You Can Be Anyone This Time Around" a wild spoken-word creation featuring none other than that psychedelic axeman Jimi Hendrix.

Bonus points for anyone who knows what instrument Jimi played on the album!

Talk about not only living in the past, but also in the paleofuture. Back in the 1970's and early 1980's, Leary, along with his druggie buddies Robert Anton Wilson and F.M. Esfandiary, predicted that by now we would live in space colonies and have become "immortal." How has that immortality worked out for these guys lately? The ideas of bohemian pop intellectuals usually don't age well, and especially not the ideas generated by the ones active in the 1960's and 1970's because they interpreted the social upheavals of America's postwar era as some kind of kind of permanent change in the human condition, instead of just recognizing them as temporary events, followed by regression towards longer-term social patterns. These guys might have spoken to a generation, but not to the ages.
