Being a police officer is a dangerous job, and every day the brave men and women of the Houston Police Department put their lives on the line to protect us. It is the sort of job where split-second decisions can mean the difference between life and death.
We trust police officers to make those decisions wisely, but news of an officer shooting a wheelchair-confined man armed with only a pen stretches the limits of that trust ("Killing sparks cry for HPD reform," Page A1, Monday).
