Former Florida prosecutor
Robert Carney has helped put four innocent men in prison. In one
case, he failed to turn over exculpatory evidence to the defense,
evidence that a decade later led to the innocent man's release
and the apprehension of the actual killer. Carney is now a judge
in Broward County, Florida. Radley Balko looks at Carney and
several other misbehaving prosecutors and asks, why are they
never sanctioned or disciplined? Balko argues that the lack of
concern on the part of our criminal justice and political systems
when prosecutors misbehave casts doubt on the legitimacy of our
courts.
