Media Got the Hospital Story Wrong
Plus: Jim Jordan has no friends, an "antisemitic Burning Man festival" at Penn, Staten Island secession, and more...

That hospital bombing narrative so many people seemed so sure about yesterday? It totally fell apart.
"Hundreds of people were feared dead after an explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 17," reads the New York Times' updated reporting, which tellingly leans on passive voice. "Hamas, which controls Gaza, blamed the blast on an Israeli airstrike," says the Times. "Israel said it was caused by an errant rocket fired by another armed group, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which denied the assertion."
The New York Times' own reporting from yesterday was disturbingly credulous, taking Hamas' self-serving words—that the strike had been carried out by Israel's military, cruelly targeting innocent civilians—far too seriously. Under a headline referencing the alleged hundreds killed in the "Israeli strike" on the hospital, the Times used an image of the bombed-out southern city of Khan Younis.
New: "As anger rises across the Middle East…"
Wow, @NYTimes, I wonder why?
Then: "Israeli Strike Kills Hundreds in Hospital, Palestinians Say" pic.twitter.com/glwH2lv72A
— Jeryl Bier (@JerylBier) October 18, 2023
The Times wasn't the only one. CBS did a segment where they "spoke to a doctor who says Israel's army had previously warned the facility to evacuate." BBC, CNN, and the Times all sent out push notifications that blamed the attack on Israel. A BBC headline read "Hundreds killed in Israeli strike on Gaza hospital" and cited "Palestinian officials" (most likely Hamas, which would have every reason to blame it on Israel). The "disinformation" journalist brigade was similarly asleep at the wheel (or worse), writes Reason's Robby Soave.
As I wrote yesterday, we simply did not know very much at the time. We cannot make sweeping pronouncements about who did it when we are waiting for more information to emerge. Doing so has ripple effects—like setting off waves of protests in a dozen major cities of the world and inspiring protesters to throw Molotov cocktails at U.S. and Israeli embassies.
What we know now: Israeli and U.S. intelligence indicates that a rocket fired by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a terrorist group allied with Hamas, did not properly launch and instead exploded on hospital grounds at Gaza's Al-Ahli Arab hospital. We do not know how many people died.
"From the video released publicly, the explosion is consistent with a rocket that still had a lot of rocket fuel at the time of impact," says Mick Mulroy, an ABC News national security analyst who was formerly deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East, a CIA officer, and a U.S. Marine, per ABC reporting. "The main post-explosion signature is that of fire, all of the cars are burned," says Eric Oehlerich for ABC News. "This is consistent with a rocket full of fuel that has been knocked out of a straight-line trajectory." U.S. Defense Department officials say they are "fairly confident" the strike did not come from Israel.
Abroad: President Joe Biden says he brokered an aid deal between Israel and Egypt that will get food, water, and medical supplies into Gaza. A massive percentage of Gaza's population has been displaced, fleeing their homes, and hospitals in the area are expected to run out of fuel for generators any hour now. "Gaza's only oncology hospital has already stopped services such as radiology," reports Al Jazeera. It remains unclear whether aid will actually pass through the Egypt-Gaza border, where it has been waiting for several days, and when it will actually begin to help alleviate people's suffering.
At home: Rep. Jim Jordan (R–Ohio), once a favorite for House speaker, has lost two ballots. "As the Ohio Republican weighs whether to convene the GOP conference in private to discuss a path forward, at least one colleague—Rep. Jack Bergman (R–Mich.)—is already beginning to place calls to build support if the Judiciary chair drops out, according to three Republicans with direct knowledge of the matter," reports Politico.
"Even former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R–Calif.), who spent years building goodwill with the GOP conference—and weeks negotiating with his hardline critics—did not face this level of entrenched opposition," reports Axios. You know things are very bad when even Kevin McCarthy is more beloved by colleagues than you are.
"I want it to be somebody who is not terribly polarized, who will understand that in divided government you're not going to get everything you want," Rep. Steve Womack (R–Ark.) told Politico, claiming there's pretty much nobody interested in the position who would be sufficient.

Media Got the Hospital Story Wrong
They got it right in the way they wanted.
"The New York Times' own reporting from yesterday was disturbingly credulous"
My stars, this definitely isn't something ENB would write. No wonder White Mike is boycotting.
Hmmm…so ENB gets kicked off the roundup and Dee leaves, and Lying Jeffy gets exposed as a sock agriculturalist and he leaves.
Yet turd gets exposed as a linker to child pornography and he’s still here.
Mike really isn't doing a good job disputing the allegation that he's an alias of ENB.
Say what you will, at least Turd is persistent. Wrong, and lying bastard, but persistent. Laursen outed himself as an ENB fanboi rather quickly. Seems his job could be summed up in #DefendENB-AtAllCosts.
Can't be, if they got something wrong I am sure I would have seen an article admitting the error somewhere.
Dude, don't you understand how memory-holing works?
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out.
This is what I do.... http://Www.Smartcash1.com
Fact Don matter, only the "truth"
The roundup headline yesterday wasn't much better.
Liz appears to be lying to preserve the narrative. Even today she's claiming "we don't know" followed immediately by reports that prove the opposite.
As I wrote yesterday, we simply did not know very much at the time.
Liz. Don't do this. Primary sourced material was available and quickly posted in the comments.
Reasons reliance on media over primary sources is one of the biggest issues here. It was just a few years ago Robbie went and found primary sources to expose the Sandman narrative. What changed? You had access to video nearly real time.
Primary sourced material was available and quickly posted in the comments.
Hilarious.
LIZ DON'T READ NO COMMENTS!
Are you as incapable of understanding what you read as sarc? Nevermore. You don't even read your own links.
The comments were to show information was available for anybody curious. I know this is a foreign concept to someone who relies on Act Blue talking points.
I think he got canned for being shit at fifty-centing and now hangs out just to troll.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit
I don't think there is anything wrong with being skeptical in the first 24 - 48 hours after a wartime event. Yes, there was a lot of information out there that pointed to the truth. There was also a lot of information out there that pointed to alternative "facts". It is ok to say "we don't know" while that sorts itself out.
I would MUCH prefer that journalists *always* start with "Facts are still unclear" rather than conclusory statements either way.
This is why I mentioned the primary evidence which existed but was not linked to by Liz. Like robby did so in his story a few years ago. It points to her not seeking out sources outside of accepted media. It would have been very easy for her to know of and link to audio recordings and video yesterday as it was available the night the story first hit.
It points to a lack of diversity in informational sources.
A lack of an opinion is fine. Ignoring primary sourced and available evidence then declaring nobody knows is not in my opinion.
I will add the evidence of the attacks in Gaza were far more prominently spread than the video of Sandman.
Still fifty times more diverse than the one who just posted Yglesias and Masnick's twitter feeds.
May Yglesias and Masnick get better. Must be hard with them to lose 50% of their traffic.
Still fifty times more diverse than the one who just posted Yglesias and Masnick’s twitter feeds.
Twitter? No way those cool kids stayed on twitter.
Techdirt stopped posting when Twitter stopped offering an API to post automatically. I guess hitting "Post" is too much of a hassle. (Masnick made his profile private but I'm going to guess he's not posting much there.)
Meanwhile on Techdirt, they've had 3 anti-Twitter stories in the last 2 days. Which is by no means out of the ordinary for them.
Which is why we do have laws that allow for financial suit against any media that foments a false claim that causes harm. This is why media is NOT supposed to report anything that has not been verified.
Example, reporting that a rocket exploded next to a hospital and has caused unknown number of deaths it appropriate. Saying that there are over 500 dead and that Israel targeted the hospital has caused irreparable harm to Israel and to every nation in the Middle East It has caused tens of millions of dollars in police overtime globally to maintain order in the chaos of peaceful and non-peaceful protests.
The media should be held FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE, including all the Middle Easter media that published globally. Every State attorney general should be suing on behalf of every town and city where police and government time was used to keep peace. Every Country should be suing every media for publishing false and unknown and unproven accusations at all!
++
What should be and what is aren’t really the same thing these days.
"What changed?"
Trump was successful, thus there is no longer room to maintain the thin veil of nonpartisanship and valuing individual liberty.
When she *wrote* the article, maybe no one 'knew' - but we knew - but by the time the thing was published the evidence was out.
And Liz Wolfe's 'correction' of the story is just an example of how freaking lazy a journalist can be and still draw a paycheck.
The 'newscycle' type story - the stuff about war events - basically the likely Reason Roundup daily 'what mass media tools are saying today' - is useless from this point on.
Media Got the Hospital Story Wrong
Now do Covid, vaccines, J6, Russian collusion, and on and on and on.
They didn't get it wrong. They intentionally fucking lied.
"There are laws to protect the freedom of the press's speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press" ~ Mark Twain
And then they say is disinfo that hamas uses hospitals as weapons caches and staging areas
Just because being wrong is always in the same direction doesn't mean it's intentiona.... I can't even finish that.
21st century "journalism": quoting doctrine and supporting the chosen narrative until overwhelming information and public opinion becomes too inconvenient.
Facts changed!
The narrative is the only truth.
Under a headline referencing the alleged hundreds killed in the "Israeli strike" on the hospital, the Times used an image of the bombed-out southern city of Khan Younis.
And yet the publication won't take much of a hit for that.
And they achieved their aim; the appearance of credibility and spinning a narrative to induce outrage, all the while appealing to be on the “correct” (progressive) side of things.
Do you think for one second that their readership will blame them? Democracy dies in darkness you know, and they’re doing their damndest to make sure it does.
What do you mean. NYT died after Duranty and all the Russian collusion journalists returned their awards and committed seppuku.
Mostly innocent "mistake."
Remember back in February, when FoxNews suffered a leak of texts and emails? How they revealed that senior personnel believed they were broadcasting lies about the "stolen" 2020 election?
If they took a ratings hit from that, it was only from viewers disgruntled that their chosen right-wing media source wouldn't confirm their narratives.
I expect the same will be true for left-wingers and the NYT.
You mean how Tucker Carlson on his own show disputed Sydney Powell? Or do you mean the current liberal narrative that this never happened?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/11/20/tucker-carlson-sidney-powell-fraud/
Their letter head is very nice.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom goes to China.
Needs to learn how to tyranny harder.
Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll stay there.
Should governors be doing foreign relations? Or is this just for vacation or to arrange for his 10%?

We do permit some profound evil in this world.
[Link]
Well that was disturbing. The evil cunt.
She's not evil, she says herself in the post that it's a difficult decision for her. People don't take the decision to end a pregnancy lightly. It's always a difficult decision to make. But sometimes it is the best decision.
Your handle shows you’re full of shit.
People don't take the decision to gas the Jews or go on a serial killer spree lightly either, you fucking blood-thirsty goblin.
"People don’t take the decision to end a pregnancy lightly."
Proven false by the favorite phrase of abortion activists: "It's just a clump of cells!"
>>She’s not evil, she says herself in the post that it’s a difficult decision for her.
if not evil, entirely less difficult to not.
Without context, the way she talks about “terminating” the pregnancy, it sounds like a choice not a medical need.
Fuck her for looking for sympathy for being an asshole and fuck you too.
She’s just following the script those smart people are promoting.
Come on lady, just tell your kid you're murdering his sibling and it's a good thing. Maybe gloat to him about it with a stupid smug smile and remind him he's special because you didn't murder him but you could.
So the son is being taught that murder is good
Have you seen the video of children in Gaza smiling while talking about assaulting and killing jews?
It's not murder, it's a medical procedure. Most of the world recognizes that, except for ultra-conservative Christians and Muslims. It's amazing how many times Christians in America hold the same opinions as Muslims.
Germany used that same excuse in the 1930s.
Most of the world recognizes that, except for ultra-conservative Christians and Muslims.
Uh, "most of the world" has restrictions on abortion that your side would believe to be tyrannical. If you're going to appeal to popularity, at least have a fucking clue about whom you're including in that appeal.
"It’s amazing how many times Christians in America hold the same opinions as Muslims."
Oddly enough, there is a very active user on this site that constantly makes the same comparison. How strange.
Insemination is also a medical procedure, but lots of people get all upset about imposing that on someone.
Euthanasia is a medical procedure.
Doesn't make it not murder.
I'd he goes Lizzy Borden on them it would be funny
Hey, dead is dead; it’s all the same in the end, right?
The five year boy has a better sense of morality than his parents.
I love that Israel has the most liberal abortion laws in the middle east. In a typical year thousands of women from surrounding countries go to Israel to get an abortion. Unfortunately because of this war that is going to be difficult now. I feel sorry for all of the Muslim women who get raped by their fathers, brothers and cousins but can't get an abortion in their home country. Israel truly is an important liberal bastion in that region of the world.
I certainly do encourage your side to abort every single pregnancy.
But then they get desperate to co-opt kids from other families, for proper indoctrination.
It's not like anyone gets pregnant from where they like to stick it.
She might get stoned to death for failure to prevent the rape, which will successfully kill the fetus.
Yeah, but then ya gotta dig it out of there in order to flush it, which is a lotta work.
BBC, CNN, and the Times all sent out push notifications that blamed the attack on Israel.
Do the Jews even run corporate media?
The wef/corprats are atheist jews and think because they are no religious they don't count as jews when the palisitinians say kill all the jews
Theological question: who would the Palestinians kill first, Jews, gays, or trannies?
Whoever was in their presence.
Their political opponents are first based on reports of Hamas torturing anyone who speaks out against them.
Dynamite vests would murder all three, hence the love of Shaheed Jihadis for murder-suicide bombing. Not really a Theological question but a technical one.
If only a nanobot could disable a murder-suicide bomber's vest before he could set it off....or set it off before he gets to his victims. It would give us a big advantage over savages who only believe in the sufficiency of Al-Qu'ran, Al-Haddith, and Al-Sunnah.
Why don’t you go fight the Palestinian Muslims in the war then? You could be useful over there to install those nanobots. Go on now, Deus vult!
There are anti-Zionist Jews. Self-hating Jews. Delusional can't-we-all-live-in-peace Jews. But perhaps the media isn't really the Jewish-controlled conspiracy theory some think it is.
When can people realize that the woke left in the media follow an ideology that's ultimately antisemitic? Those guys are a disgrace to Judaism.
President Joe Biden says he brokered an aid deal between Israel and Egypt that will get food, water, and medical supplies into Gaza.
Couldn't make a deal to get Gazans to the Egyptian food, water and medical supplies, huh?
Egypt doesn't want Palestinians. They see the trouble they cause in Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.
Gaza is just elite college campuses in 20 years.
You mean 20 years ago.
Well, 60.
Nah, Campuses only started getting violent in 2016. They are slowly ramping it up. So think it still is early Gazian.

They're just practicing what they've been taught by their professors. Gotta make that grade.
Another donor pulls his funding from the University of Pennsylvania over it hosting what he calls an "antisemitic Burning Man festival," among other things.
I imagine Burning Man is the antisemitic Burning Man festival.
Goddamn hippies.
Penn State was where students rioted in defense of Jerry Sandusky and Joe Paterno when the sexual abuse scandal came to light. I guess the rot goes through the entire Pennsylvania University system.
The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) is a private institution, founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin, and is part of the Ivy League. Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) is a public institution, founded in 1855 as a land grant university (one of the two first land grant schools, the other being Michigan State University, also founded 1855), and is part of the Big Ten. Two entirely different schools and unrelated to each other.
I knew they were separate, of course, but didn't know the University of Pennsylvania was private and founded by Ben Franklin. That means there's even less excuse for this Pogrom-Palooza. Ben would be so ashamed.
It is very telling that the heir to the Estée Lauder fortune took his money out of University of Pennsylvania. He didn't want to perfume over the stench.

I bet she would be very shocked if someone did that to her.
“Hamas never got muh pronouns wrong”
In Gaza, you can have any pronouns you want, as long as you choose him or her. And if you choose her, put this bag over your head.
“Converted” ("Reverted" in Islam) or “Dead” are not pronouns.
Not if the woke gets things their way!
I want it to be somebody who is not terribly polarized, who will understand that in divided government you're not going to get everything you want,
This reads as "I want it to be somebody who is not going to be any threat of disrupting the gravy train. I got friends, family and donors I need to make sure get in on the sweetheart deals. The military-industrial complex has always been a pretty reliable sugar daddy for us Republicans, but a few screwballs pushing this 'America First' nonsense are getting people nervous. The Democrats are actually making inroads on that front. And these same 'America First' people get in the way of us diversifying into some of the grifts of our Democratic colleagues. Who the hell do these da**ed 'voters' think they are, anyway?"
That sounds about right.

One would think a United States "career civil servant" would have a different definition of "my people" but it's a shame that Instagram is being robbed of this teaching moment.
One of the questions on the form to apply for clearance asks the person if they have allegiances to any foreign entity. I think she answered the question.
Taking a step back from the horror that is this person's federal employment. I wonder if her teaching will be fair and balanced? No side is blameless but seems like we need to be one side or the other. But to wit, will she note Arafat's role in rejecting Oslo? Where would they be now? That HAMAS refuses to use a huge amount of donations to improve Gaza? Israel gave it back and they do what? Destroy Jewish greenhouses that offer food and industry. Procure and manufacture arms. https://www.thecentersquare.com/illinois/article_2d851e30-6e05-11ee-9e68-77c1b4816463.html
As Gov. J.B. Pritzker continues his push for 1 million electric vehicles on Illinois roads by 2030, some legislators say Pritzker is pushing an unrealistic plan.
The average cost of an electric vehicle in Illinois is nearly $39,000, which state Rep. David Friess, R-Red Bud, said is an unrealistic ask for your average Illinoisan.
"You don't have 1972 EVs riding around because they weren't here, so they're going to have to be new," Friess said. "People do not have that money lying around to buy an EV. They just don't. The average working person in lower middle income does not have that kind of money."
According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois farmland covers 27 million acres, which is about 75% of the state's total land area. Friess said that makes Pritzker's plan unrealistic.
"In my area and most of southern Illinois, we are talking about rural communities. Going from point A to point B in an EV then having to get a charge somewhere is just not practical," Friess said. "It makes zero sense."
On top of the plan for 1 million EVs on the road by 2030, Pritzker aims to have net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
These petty tyrants think they can impose anything on their constituents, just ban gas and diesel. Give it some arbitrary date like 2040 and begin denying all new gas station permits and deny permits to upgrade existing gas stations. Fuck the virtue signaling, put your money where your mouth is.
People still seem to think that the elites want plebes to have cars.
They don't.

Trumpism fails in Poland:
Liberal democracy strikes back in Poland . Exciting news from Poland, where last Sunday a coalition of opposition parties delivered a robust election victory against a nativist-authoritarian government. .
To describe the elation pulsing through Poland — and indeed through Europe and the wider world — you could do worse than the first phrase of the country’s national anthem: “Poland has not yet perished”. The opposition’s clear majority in votes and parliamentary seats means an end to the authoritarian creep that the eight-year rule of the Law and Justice party (PiS) has afflicted on the country and its institutions. The record-breaking turnout, with previous non-voters overwhelmingly opting for the opposition, testifies to how the opposition’s campaign, framing the election as a last chance to save Poland as a European liberal democracy, hit home. (More than 3mn more votes were cast than in the 2019 election; however, PiS received 400,000 fewer than then.)

Also, you didn't answer the question.
Really? Poland?
I'd think Mr. I-Don't-Root-for-a-Team-I-Just-Want-Gridlock would prefer more locally relevant data about the guy who's actually President right now.
Biden approval rating near record low in new poll
"President Biden’s overall approval rating dropped to 37 percent in a poll released Wednesday — a near record-low for the president as he heads into an election year. The latest CNBC All-America Economic Survey, conducted Oct. 11-15, showed Biden’s overall approval rating at its second-lowest point in his presidency, 1 point higher than the record-low 36 percent approval in July 2022. Biden’s disapproval rating rose to a record-high of 58 percent, 1 point above the disapproval rating in July 2022."
Better elevate your #DefendBidenAtAllCosts game. 🙁
But there is one candidate even more unpopular than Senile Joe, Sandy.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/
A new poll finds President Biden beating former President Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a three-way race for the presidency.
.
Biden won 44 percent support in the new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll, compared with 37 percent for Trump and 16 percent for Kennedy. Three percent of those polled were undecided.
.
Biden’s 7 point advantage narrowed to a 3 point advantage when respondents were asked about a two-way race between Trump and Biden, with 49 percent backing Biden, 46 percent backing Trump and 5 percent undecided.

Who cares? Things will change drastically.
Keep the hope alive while defending Biden at all cost.

When asked whether Biden or Trump has done "a better job handling the economy," 54 percent said Trump and just 36 percent said Biden.
Trump will almost certainly lose the rematch, but it won't be because people think Biden is doing a good job. It'll be the result of Trump's obnoxious personality (already wore out his welcome by 2020), constant whining about the last election (the message that proved toxic in 2022), and the fact that you Democrats will swallow *any* shit sandwich as long as it says what you want to hear about abortion.
Well, that and the fortifying

Finland stops allowing real estate transactions with Russian buyers.
The Fins don't want to let the Russkies past their border? Now I've heard everything.
""I want it to be somebody who is not terribly polarized, who will understand that in divided government you're not going to get everything you want," Rep. Steve Womack (R–Ark.)"
Oh look, a Nice Guy. Nancy certainly didn't feel or behave that way, Steve, and polarized the hell out of everything, but you keep spreading your cheeks.
Problem is this feckless cunt is looking to spread the taxpayer's cheeks, not his own. He deserves the Cheney treatment for this spinelessness.
Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to just pass a few aspirational pieces of legislation to get voted down in the Senate.
Nancy didn't care when McConnell was there. She forced him to compromise but she never did.
Too bad she was working for the forces of evil.
Working for? Nancy is the epitome of evil in the House. Shit, she's the fucking Wicked Witch of the West, and that may be an insult to real witches.
"...Doing so has ripple effects—like setting off waves of protests in a dozen major cities of the world and inspiring protesters to throw Molotov cocktails at U.S. and Israeli embassies..."
The rag of Walter Duranty certainly deserves a black eye for once again printing left-wing bullshit, but the blame for the insurrections (did I get that right?) belongs on those acting upon the lies.
Playing with fire.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/10/18/the-wests-israel-haters-are-playing-with-fire/
It should be clear to everyone on this grim day that the fashionable rage against Israel is no longer just irrational, it is dangerous. That most peculiar union of woke elites and perma-angry Islamists, wedded together in an implacable loathing for the Jewish State, is not only unsettling, it is also menacing. In the aftermath of the calamity at al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City, and the rush to blame it on Israel, we can now see that anti-Israel hysteria poses a palpable threat to regional stability in the Middle East and to the social fabric here in the West.
The legion loathers of Israel in the woke set happily made themselves into ventriloquist dummies for Hamas’s take on the hospital horror. ‘Israeli air strikes have hit al-Ahli hospital’, said Jeremy Corbyn. It is an ‘atrocious war crime’, he said. Will he say the same if it transpires that Palestinian Islamic Jihad is responsible? Then there were those lowlifes who are notorious for hating Israel. Chris Williamson, the former Labour MP, tweeted: ‘Israel has forfeited any right to exist.’ The rush to judgement becomes a rush to condemnation. A death sentence is essentially issued against the State of Israel for a crime it may not have committed.
The rush to judgement against Israel could have dire consequences. Across the Arab world, thousands hit the streets in the wake of the hospital tragedy to condemn Israel. A mass gathering of Iranians called on their theocratic government to do something. The Israeli embassy in Turkey was attacked. Hezbollah called for a ‘day of rage’. Jordan cancelled a ‘peace summit’ with President Biden and Arab leaders on the grounds of ‘the ugly massacre perpetrated by Israel’, in the words of Jordan’s king. The evidence-lite criminalisation of Israel is actively hampering the diplomatic search for a solution.
It is impacting on the Western world, too. This morning a synagogue in Berlin was firebombed. The bigoted treatment of Israel as a uniquely evil state that even slays hospital patients is having consequences for Jews in Europe. As Germany’s Central Council of Jews said today, ‘Hamas’s ideology of extermination against everything Jewish is also having an effect in Germany’. Liberals and leftists caution constantly against ‘escalating’ the conflict in the Middle East. Their gentile privilege, as one might call it, blinds them to the fact that their own myopic fury with Israel is contributing to an escalation of both military hostilities over there and racist hostilities at home.

The reason to point this out is not, of course, to note the hypocrisy. The reason is to realize that we can't live with these people, and that pretending otherwise will lead to mass death, which is always the intent and goal of the Left for those who oppose their utopia.

The impetus isn’t antisemitic, it’s anti white.
To the extent we treat jews as a special victim class, we also perpetuate the anti white movement.
Antisemitism is downstream of anti white.
Edit: Anti white isn't just about skin color. White designates euro ethnics of course, but also western civilization and enlightenment values as a whole.
It’s not so much anti-white as anti-middle/working class.
All these people pushing this nonsense are elites and member of the top of the business and political class and the clerisy, who are very much of European descent and don’t spend much time with anyone who isn’t.
And they know that outside the odd Saudi prince or Korean billionaire there’s nobody from the outside who can attain their status as global princes. They’re secure in that way.
But the Western middle/working class IS a real threat to their power and status. They can’t attack them physically and win so they use psychological attacks and divide and conquer strategies. Anti-racism racism is currently their favorite.
In reality, rich and powerful white people are encouraging racism and being racist against the potentially powerful middle/working class who are largely white as well.
Somebody has already posted that Ku Klux Klan meme! And SJWs/CRTers/ESGers/DIEers all hold to the same faulty premise! Take that shit and yourself to Stormfront, Nazi Nardz!
The beauty of Western Civilization is that it's tenets of Objective Reality, Reason, Science, Secularism, Freedom, and Progress can be and are embraced by people all over the world, regardless of nationality or "race."
Progress does not objectively exist in Secularism. Don't be a scientism dogmatist.
It needs to be understood here that the left's hatred of Israel isn't really about Israel itself, but as one of general hatred for the west, especially the US. Israel's just treated as a representative for that when the situation calls for it.
Yes but there is more. There is just plain Jew-hate but I suspect much of the Progressive/Leftist hate is due to their success. Both Israel as the personification of successful Jews in the US that did so within the system and Israeli drift from socialism to capitalism.
Bringing sexy back...
To save the bottom line.
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/victorias-secret-ditches-wokeness-wants-make-sexy-great-again
Victoria's Secret's shift towards "woke" trends in fashion in recent years, which included showcasing trans and plus-size models instead of their traditional sexy models, sparked a wave of discontent among customers, resulting in a significant revenue drop, crashing stock price, and Victoria's Secret Fashion Show ratings hitting rock bottom.
The American lingerie chain spent the last several years 'Bud-Light-ing' itself with transgender models like Valentina Sampaio and super woke soccer player Megan Rapinoe while abandoning its iconic sexy models.
Earlier this year, CEO Amy Hauk was booted out of the company amid 'woke' controversies. Now CNN reports the brand has given up on out-woking others and wants to 'Make "Sexiness" Great Again.'
Chief executive Martin Waters also disclosed that woke initiatives were not profitable for the company, stating, "Despite everyone's best endeavours, it's not been enough to carry the day."
This comes as the ESG bubble is imploding. And Larry Fink's BlackRock has ditched the term ESG.
BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street hold about 15 and 20% of the outstanding shares of S&P 500 companies and can have enormous direct power in corporate decision-making.
Some in corporate America are beginning to realize the challenges ESG poses for business sustainability.

I'm waiting for the video of Kid Rock shooting a pile of bras.
He should burn them instead. 😉
Or maybe just pimp slapping rapino. Damn, that bitch is nasty.
Sexiness was always great. Woke chicks are ugly, and ugly chicks despise good looking chiks
Also ditching and rebranding are different things
Yeah, Fink is not about to do away with it. He will just re-label it.
I also never understood how buying lingerie would be a feminist thing, but VS certainly seemed to think it would be.
Never put a woman in charge of how to be a slut.

I dunno, Millennials hate beauty, so I think they may be out to pasture for a good long while. And zoomers don't look to be any different.
Fashion shows were fucking queer enough as it is over the last 30-odd years. VS was one of the rare exceptions where actual hot women wearing clothes that normal people liked were featured.
That's a Disney/Marvel/Rings of Power-tier fuckup where you assume your primary customer base is going to continue consoooooooooooooming at previous levels while you make your brand all about deathfats and girldick to gain a niche demographic and raise your ESG score with the Human Rights Campaign.
But did they ever have a morbidly obese trans model? I think they should push it that extra step. They have come so far just to give up.
I don't understand why Rapinoe - why would you put up someone in their mid 30's that looks like they're already over 50?
Wait, Rapinoe is only in her 30’s?

School choice - it's a necessity for the working poor who are simply trying to get a better life for their kids. Yet, the Democrats are making war on the poor by trying to end choice.
https://www.illinoispolicy.org/most-invest-in-kids-scholarships-go-to-families-living-on-49k-or-less-for-4/
Two-thirds of the students who received Invest in Kids scholarships in the 2022-2023 school year had a family income of less than 185% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, that’s $49,025 or less.
And 27% had a family income below the poverty level, or less than $26,500.
The scholarships provide low-income parents with the same autonomy over their child’s education that more financially secure parents exercise, such as Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates and Illinois Education Association director of government relations Sean Denney. Both chose private schools for their children, both make much more than the scholarship families and both are trying to end the scholarship program for low-income families.
A student’s opportunity to attend a school that better provides for their individual needs should not be limited by their family’s income. And the question ought not to be whether public or private schools are better. The question is whether low-income parents ought to have the same opportunity as wealthier parents to provide their child with a school that best fits their needs.
CTU President Davis Gates made a similar decision for her family by enrolling her child in a private school for the extracurricular and academic opportunities that school provides. But with an annual income topping $289,000, Davis Gates can afford her choice.
Indoctrination, not education, is their goal.
Why even fund education if (1) there are no public union dues and (2) students are not trained to hate free markets, liberty, and the Constitution, and to vote (D)?

Brandon Johnson has only been Chicago’s mayor for five months, but he is already outperforming his predecessors by one metric: His SUVs are racking up red light and speed camera violations faster than any of them.
Since taking the keys to City Hall, the black SUVs that Chicago cops drive him around town in have racked up an impressive 11 moving violations, according to records reviewed by CWBChicago. That’s about one ticket every two weeks. One of the SUVs picked up a parking ticket earlier this month, too.

Why is this news. Progressives don't view any of this as a crime. Victimless. Come on, man!
Bushman is the new CEO of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association - a far-right group, with far-reaching influence, that preaches that the nation's sheriffs have authority to judge the constitutionality of laws, and to block enforcement of any they deem objectionable.
.
Bushman is also the owner of Liberty News Radio, a right-wing radio and podcast network that provides a soapbox for white separatists, including airing shows that platform former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke and Charlottesville Unite the Right rally organizer Jason Kessler. Bushman hosts his own radio show on the network, and used his airtime on Juneteenth 2023 to blast Martin Luther King Jr. as a "thug." In an interview with Rolling Stone, he doubled down, calling the civil rights icon "a bad guy in many, many, many ways." This July, Bushman broadcast from a neo-Confederate carnival called Dixie Fest, where he platformed an author who called for the South to "secede from what is really a degenerate empire."
.
Bushman's intersection with white separatists is concerning on its own terms. "Folks that Sam runs with are seeking secession and the creation of a white nationalist entity in the South," says Chuck Tanner, research chief for the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, a Seattle-based nonprofit that watchdogs far-right movements.
.
Underscoring just how fringe this ideology is, Mack insists that even some of the constitutional amendments are not constitutional. Speaking with Rolling Stone, he declares: "I don't believe that all amendments are constitutional, especially the 16th." (Adopted in 1909, the 16th Amendment created income taxes.) Pressed on how a duly passed constitutional amendment could violate the Constitution, Mack snapped: "You think everything that Congress does is constitutional? Just because they do it!?"

Interesting. Authoritarian. Anti-Democratic.
It is "far right" to think that LEOs should not just "obey orders" with laws that violate constitutionally protected rights?
No. It is "far right" to advocate special privileges for one race.
So BLM and dems asking for reparations, race based spaces and special treatment is far right?
Soros is far right?
You heard it from Pluggo first, folks!
The ADL, BLM, NAACP and SPLC are all far-right.
Farrakhan, the Islamo-supremacist anti-Jewish scumbag piece-of-shit is certainly of the right.
Right-wing politics is the range of political ideologies that view certain social orders and hierarchies as inevitable, natural, normal, or desirable,[1][2][3] typically supporting this position based on natural law, economics, authority, property or tradition.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10
Wikipedia
You Peanuts have the most difficult time with definitions. It is like you never took a poly-sci class but learned what you know from talk radio.
LOL. More proof you use words despite their definitions and prefer their use for narratives.
Sure. I am sure Farrakhan thinks of himself as a John Bircher.
Low-down Louie is the Islamo version.

That Wikipedia copy-paste isn’t saying what you claimed. You were hoping we wouldn’t read it, huh?
Also, I see you deliberately left off the next line:
“Hierarchy and inequality may be seen as natural results of traditional social differences[11][12] or competition in market economies.[13][14][15]”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_politics
Why did you leave out that bit, Pluggo?
Obviously you wouldn't know a poly-sci class even if it was in children's sizes.
So white people are naturally inclined to be superior in market economies?
See the supporting footnote:
the truly Conservative view is that there is a natural hierarchy of skills and talents in which some people are born leaders, whether by heredity or family tradition
You need to read more carefully next time.
That isn’t what it says because you cut off the first and last bit again to make it read like something else. You’re too dumb to be a weasel so don’t even try. This elementary school sophistry wouldn’t even fool sarc.
The whole quote with the part Pluggo deliberately left off:
“There are … those who accept inequality as natural, normal, and even desirable. Two main lines of thought converge on the Right or conservative side… the truly Conservative view is that there is a natural hierarchy of skills and talents in which some people are born leaders, whether by heredity or family tradition.. now … the more usual right-wing view, which may be called ‘liberal-conservative’, is that unequal rewards are right and desirable so long as the competition for wealth and power is a fair one”
To reiterate:
““Hierarchy and inequality may be seen as natural results of traditional social differences[11][12] or competition in market economies.[13][14][15]”
That last bit is the part you really hate.
By that definition Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and George Soros are hard-core right wingers.
And I support all three of them and their respective policies.

Us Soros/Buffett/ Gates right-wingers are discussing market economics.

""So white people are naturally inclined to be superior in market economies?""
So I've heard by liberals that promote equity.
Fixed it for you:
So Jews, Asians, Hispanics, Bharatians, ... are naturally inclined to be superior in market economies
OK. Sounds like a natural conclusion to draw based on pretty much all of human history.
I don't know about some specific social order or hierarchy being inevitable, but some kind of social order and hierarchy does seem to be inevitable. So probably best to stick with one that is known to be fairly stable if you have one.
“Soros is far right?”
Well he did belong to a certain party in the 40s.
So Kendi, Coates and DiAngelo who advocate for “anti-racism” are far-right?
The first paragraph you quoted merely described an organization against the enforcement of unconstitutional laws, which does not seem to have anything to do with endorsing racial privileges and seems the opposite of authoritarian.
In Pluggo's twisted worldview, yes.
So Kendi, Coates and DiAngelo who advocate for “anti-racism” are far-right?
No. The absence of racism is egalitarianism - on left wing.
Taken to an extreme the far left becomes communist.
On the right extreme you have fascism - aka Aryan Supremacy. Or even Islamo Supremacy (Farrakhan).
Yeah, no. You just make it all up as you go and hope we won't call you out on your bullshitting.
Shrike and Sarc seem to both have this Humpty Dumpty problem of words meaning only what they want them to mean.
I posted the Wikipedia definition which contains elaborate sources.
The fact is that you and the Canuck have no argument other than NUUH-UHH YOU'RE WRONG!
The Left-Right paradigm came out of the French Revolution when the Revolutionary LIBERTIE--EGALITARE! sat on the left of the assembly and the monarchists sat on the elitist right.
It has never changed.
You might want to use the cap-lock key more often. It'll finally match your true derangement.
"I posted the Wikipedia definition which contains elaborate sources."
No. You selectively edited a few phrases of the Wikipedia definition, while leaving a greater part of the quotes out because you saw they actually contradicted your claims.
Then, when I posted the unaltered Wikipedia quotes you flipped positions and claimed that Wikipedia got it wrong.
Folks, you can see how he's lying here: https://reason.com/2023/10/19/media-got-the-hospital-story-wrong/?comments=true#comment-10282414
The thread is about 15 posts long.
I didn't say Wikipedia was wrong, you liar.
I said that by your selective excerpt that Buffett, Soros etc were "right wing". when they are not.
They are both alpha capitalists - so are they "right wing"?
You certainly fucking inferred it:
"By that definition (Wikipedia) Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and George Soros are hard-core right wingers."
And it wasn't MY selective excerpt. It was the entire Wikipedia quote, unedited, that YOU had selectively excerpted from to claim otherwise in the first place.
You're really all-in on hoping people don't fact-check you, huh.
And those on the left terrorized everyone else. This has never changed.
The TDS-addled turd lies. turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
Your circular reasoning is circular. You have simply defined "good" things as being of the Left and ignore things that people who identify as Leftists actually say.
No, I put communists (which are the most vile of all ideologies) on the left.
In theory, communists support equal outcome.
In practice communism is pure shit.
Yet you simp for them.
You’re so full of shit, pedo. You’re not fooling anyone.

It is not that NYU students do not understand what the word "violence" means, it is that they are initiates of political/philosophical movement that has been attempting to establish a corrupt redefinition of the word to suit their polical goalsl

Wasn't that on October 7?
"NYU Law students do not understand what the word violence means."
Sorry, Liz. More like you and the rest of the white colonial patriarchy do not understand. A year in the camps might help you.

> Everyone in this workplace pronouns situation seems annoying.
My pronounds are I/You. If you are talking to me I prefer that you use first and second person pronouns. If you insist on referring to me in the third person, well that's just rude.
He/she/they/ze/zhe pronouns are third person. Sure, use the one I prefer when talking about me in my presence. But when talking directly to me, be polite and use the first and second person pronouns. This is not political, this is linguistic.
Something I've never understood about this pronoun nonsense. If I'm talking to you, I'm going to refer to you as 'you'. If I'm referring to he, she, or they, that's somebody else outside of the conversation and who the hell cares what their preferred pronouns are? If you're going to be offended on behalf of somebody who's not even involved in the conversation, just fuck off. I obviously made a mistake in talking to you at all.
...just fuck off. I obviously made a mistake in talking to you at all.

The tediously anti-white, sinfully unfunny movie Crazy Rich Asians succeeded by pandering to the insecurities of successful Asian-Americans by creating fantasy-land white racism scenarios for Asians to defeat—“now it’s OUR TIME!”
Compare it to this version in Beverly Hills Cop:
Not only did Black Americans in the past have an infinitely harder experience of racism in America is concerned, the joke here is that Eddie Murphy’s character knows as a black man in *1984* that accusations of white racism are powerful precisely *because* they are fictitious.
The whole conceit of the scene and why it works, is that almost FORTY YEARS AGO, it was obvious that anti-black racism by whites was not a force in American society, certainly not Beverly Hills, and that *white* society at large felt racism to be the height of social ruin.
Notice how the Crazy Rich Asians show up the staff by buying the hotel, where Foley is shown up by a price couldn’t afford all along
Axel Foley is a Detroit police detective, on a mission of avenging his (white) best friend. The Young’s white friend is one “Lord Calthorpe.”
This is deeply revealing about Crazy Rich Asians. Its success, not despite of, but because of these insufferable (and unrealistic over FORTY YEARS AGO) scenarios of white racism tell of profound insecurity. All that success but you still have a grudge? And make up lies? Why?
Because the driving motivation of scenes like that is a (false) attempt at catharsis by the writers—purgation of the feelings of being an alien, being uncool, being forever outside. But by engaging in something like this, they’ve consigned themselves to that fate! Nouveau riche.

There were white people in Crazy Rich Asians?
Serious overreach on this bullshit ariticle.

That's because it's whitey. Otherwise it would be considered just another film that promotes racist tropes made by whitey.
I realize it is fashionable to depict whitey as the villain in movies.
Sad, but true.
I have no care either way. It's just a movie.

There might be a little more to it than just a younger generation. The only White person in this video looks annoyed by it. Ben Shapiro retweeted this — I sincerely wonder what his current position on the “browning of America” is after the events of the last two weeks.
We address this in the imminent video. Much of what is perceived to be a “woke” young generation can be explained by it being now majority-minority. So it should come as no surprise that they follow suit in having grudges against America, Whites, police, Palestine, etc.

I was listening to an interview with Bari Weiss, and she admits she was steeped in this crap since her college years in 2003. I said to myself, "Oh you sweet summer child, this has been going on since the 70s."
Exactly. Academia just got a lot more brazen about it in the 1990s-2000s, when the fall of the Warsaw Pact broke their brains and the natural evolution of their ideology into full-blown cultural marxism took place.
Any excuse to skip class I guess.
It's easy to be flip about it, but the last 20-odd years should be evidence enough that assuming "oh, they'll change their turn when they have to get a job in the real world" will mitigate any of that. Even if they aren't quite as overtly radical as they were in college, they'll still be spreading the poison within local governments and the general workforce.
Everyone in this workplace pronouns situation seems annoying. Just do your jobs!
Fuck off, I'm not going to agree to disagree, and then be forced to use retarded pronouns.
That's my beef.
I don't see both sides being annoying. One side is demanding the other side do something. That side is being a dick.
Luckily they’ll never demand anything else once you use their proper pronouns
"The tyranny of ESG has run its course," writes Merryn Somerset Webb for Bloomberg.
Yeah, we'll see.
Asked why they were over ESG, the top reason given was that performance was more important.

They always retreat to regroup, they never quit.
ESG has died, long live whatever new name ESG adopts.
I want it to be somebody who is not terribly polarized, who will understand that in divided government you’re not going to get everything you want…
An agree to disagree politician...
Two things:
1. Those hospital generators have been expected to run out of fuel “within hours” for the past several days.
2. Iran Colon?! Are you shitting me?
The Iran/Colon affair really was a violation.
Enough to fill an adult diaper.
Unfortunately the media got it back-asswards.
1. Remember the Hanukka story.
"...Those hospital generators have been expected to run out of fuel “within hours” for the past several days..."
Yeah, well, 500 DEAD!!!!!!!
Saves on gas?
Iran Colon?! Are you shitting me?
I see the Ayatollah is back in the news.
See my take way above in response to Fist's post on Staton Island secession.

okay I've been told my views are the wrong views so I've been watching the news & I think I get it ...
Colonialists were slaughtered by Avengers. Our president was on the scene yesterday making sure the Colonialists kept away from the poor Palestinians who just want to breathe. Our president gave our money to the Authority of the Palestinians and they're going to pay the Avengers for the avenging. Our president also gave our money to and lifted restrictions on the Nation who supports the Authority who pays the Avengers, so now the Nation can make rockets to shoot at the Colonialists.
And, and and it is awesome because our economy is booming, the political opposition is in jail, and our government is taking care of our biggest local threat which is housewives storming school board meetings.
How's that?
Sounds like a pretty succinct breakdown of Current Year thinking.
And people think the call for a national divorce should be out of bounds. At this point, it's probably the only thing that's going to prevent an outright civil war.
After the Hamas attack, the US stopped the transfer of money to Iran:

Yeah. NBC's "disinformation" reporter was all over the story of Israel killing 500 folks and all.
Speaks highly of his ability to determine disinformation and all.
Wait, there's still a writer's strike in Hollywood?
isn't it the actors' turn or something?
I think the unions leaders should go on strike demanding better pay from the unions.
I like it.
>>"I want it to be somebody who is not terribly polarized ..." Rep. Steve Womack (R–Ark.)
(R) branding Jim Jordan this ^^^ is the pan et circenses.
That wasn't a ripple effect. That was the INTENT.
I'm used to this kind of whining inside media organizations, but I'm a little baffled that these staffers thought their job would be to set US foreign policy through emotive workplace conversations
Why would anyone be fucking shocked at this? It's been an ongoing theme in reporting on the American workforce since the late 90s-early 2000s, when stories came out about how new graduates wanted to work for companies that "inspired" them, such as Google's fatuous "don't be evil" motto. The indoctrination of PC culture in academia, and its metastatization into the marxist-influenced theology of Wokism from the mid-2000s onward, influenced its graduates to be political activists in the workforce.
Why should it come as any sort of shock that rad-left bureaucrats in the federal government would be emotionally acting out about what's going on in Israel right now? This was the WHOLE FUCKING POINT of academia radicalizing these people in the first place.
And it isn't going to stop until academia is burned to the ground, and its professors are hounded out of the country as subversives.
hey also with the Media Got the Hospital Story Wrong how's about Media Is Completely Fucking Ignoring American Hostages instead
Good news, Peanuts!
Sidney Powell pleads guilty in Georgia RICO case and will testify against the Con Man.
CNN
—
Former Donald Trump attorney Sidney Powell has pleaded guilty in the Georgia election subversion case, one day before her trial was set to start.
.
As part of her guilty plea, Powell is admitting her role in the January 2021 breach of election systems in rural Coffee County, Georgia. With the help of local GOP officials, a group of Trump supporters accessed and copied information from the county’s election systems in hopes of somehow proving that the election was rigged against Trump.
.
Fulton County prosecutors are recommending a sentence of six years probation. Powell will also be required to testify at future trials, write an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia, pay nearly $9,000 in restitution and fines and turn over documents.
CNN
Saw that. Wonder how the Faithful will spin it. Perhaps Powell was forced into a plea deal at gunpoint? Her family is being held hostage? She was a Democrat plant the entire time?
She was a Democrat plant the entire time?
I'm betting on this one.
BITCH IS A CRAZY DEMOCRAT!
Maybe she's Antifa, or FBI.
Maybe she’s Antifa, or FBI.
Tomayto, tomahto
Might depend on one's view of using plea deals to encourage guilty pleas.
I've never been for it. It's something I thought the left and I had in common.
What does the left have to do with anything?
And further proof you aren’t an actual libertarian. Look at the time she was facing vs what she got in the agreement. Reason even had an article on the issue just last week when please are so disparate from threatened charges compelling guilty pleas. The agreement was just to get a leftist talking point of guilt out that you happily lapped up like the good dem defending neocon you've become.
Please don’t call yourself a libertarian when you don’t even know standard libertarian discussions.
If you ever reply to something I actually said, instead of stuff you made up, I'll be so surprised I'll probably do a spit-take and ruin my keyboard.
How is it "made up"?
See, this is why we have to save all your posts, because you don't even remember half the shit you post here.
How is it “made up”?
Oh, I don't know. Maybe the fact that, as usual, I didn't say or do any of the things JesseAz claims that I said and did?
In all the years he's been posting here, he's responded to something I actually said exactly zero times. I really don't know what I'd do if he made an honest response to what I said instead of rebutting the voices in his head. Luckily for me though that will never happen. He'd go into anaphylactic shock and die if the truth ever crossed his keyboard.
"In all the years he’s been posting here, he’s responded to something I actually said exactly zero times."
That's a flat-out fucking lie and you know it.
No, it's not. He deliberately misconstrues everything. I don't lie much. I'm not good at it. JesseAz is a master. And I think you in your search for pattern revealing this guy is that guy is the other guy, you fall for his shit.
"I don’t lie much. I’m not good at it."
You aren't good at it but you do lie constantly anyway. Although to be fair, half the time you don't remember things you posted earlier in the thread, so you may think you're not lying.
They gave lip service to the problems with plea deals. But then will cheer plea deals when it's people they don't like.
How is that any different from the unprincipled political right?
Whataboutism?
Whataboutism is saying it's ok because the other guy did it. I'm saying they're both wrong.
So how was this whataboutism?
https://reason.com/2023/10/17/prosecutors-appeal-proud-boys-prison-sentences-over-january-6-riot/?comments=true#comment-10279731
I've got an idea. Why don't you skullfuck an old thread right in the eyeball?
Is that anything like moose fucking, sarc? Please, let us know.
Or you could stop running away and explain wtf you were talking about.
Cry more.
WHATABOUTISM!
""I argue that the state’s chief criminal-creating mechanism is the plea bargain. The U.S. is unique in that more than 95 percent of all criminal cases end in a plea bargain. No other country comes anywhere close. Our uniqueness in plea bargaining has led us to uniquely bad outcomes. We couldn’t have gotten these astronomical numbers of system-involved people without a method of getting lots of convictions quickly, and that’s what the plea bargain is.""
https://truthout.org/articles/plea-bargains-are-a-tool-of-racist-mass-incarceration/
But let's forget about that if it's someone we dislike.
Great. Now tell that to someone who is cheering the plea bargain.
Just look higher on this thread.
Saw that. Wonder how the one true libertarians will ignore that she traded 15 years in jail for no jail time and a modest fine in a plea agreement as proof and not as an attack on a system of overcharging to get pleas for guilty talking points. I mean it is only a standard libertarian topic to recognize the terms of an agreement and how defendants are often forced into please to get a Prosecutor a win through disparate agreements compared to charges.
I also see that you have no problem with the agreement including a forced apology as part of the terms. Nothing wrong with compelled speech either.
But you can now attack Trump as definitely guilty and ignore the usual libertarian topics around the subject as usual.
Aaaaaaand as usual if you are expecting a counterargument you first need to argue against something I actually said, instead of arguing against shit you make up to explain what I didn't say.
I mean you're happily agreeing with shrike and had no acknowledgement of the terms of the plea vs the terms of the charges. Immediately asking how people would respond. I told you how most libertarians would respond as Reason just did a week ago with Hunter's gun charges.
If you were libertarian you would have taken a pause and asked yourself what the conditions were. You chose not to do it. You immediately went into political attacks of your opponents.
Sure. Except I didn't say any of those things. That's the voices in your head talking, not me.
and had no acknowledgement of the terms of the plea vs the terms of the charges.
As I stated. You are also happily piling on with shrike who is literally making the assertion. “Show me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are”
You should know by now that I don't defend things I didn't say.
No. You just about what you do say and choose to ignore things you agree with in an attempt to use rhetorical tricks to deny acceptance.
I'm not going to "accept" your imaginings. Keep arguing against the voices in your head. I'm not going to defend them.
It is Libertarian to tamper with elections - don't you know that?
As in having the dead vote, dropping off a multitude of ballots in drop box at 3 am, keeping people on the voter rolls long after they've moved out of the area, kicking out observers and then starting the counts without them present?
Your side does that shit, Pluggo.
What’s your opinion of DAs overcharging to get lesser plea deals, sarc?
It's just how the system works. The fact is that most people are guilty. Plea deals streamline the system and avoid costly trials. If someone really is innocent, then they can demand a trial. Granted some lack the resources, but not the people in this particular case.
So the fact that a lawyer with deep pockets and plenty of resources pled guilty tells me that crimes were indeed committed.
Lol.
https://truthout.org/articles/plea-bargains-are-a-tool-of-racist-mass-incarceration/
But sorry people it's just how the system works.
Semantic nitpicking in 5,4,3…
So speaketh the one true libertarian.
Hey, sarc’s never complained about the criminal justice system, he just accepts it as it is. Whatcha gonna do?
Quite ironic when he spouts off on cops the way he does. One would think he would oppose this shit in the criminal justice system. I guess it's all fine when you don't like the people given the sentence/plea deal.
Quite unsurprising that you must attack me and my integrity rather than address what I actually said.
In fact I’d be shocked if you even attempted to have a conversation about ideas, instead of talking shit about the people with them.
“I wonder how the faithful will spin it.”
The fact that you equate a generalized comment with a personal attack says more about you than me. If you take personal offence at my mockery of stereotypes, then maybe you should stop being a stereotype.
I’m thinking that that comment of mine must have been right on, and you were thinking or saying one of the stupid things I mentioned in it. Embarrassed at your stupidity being put on full display, you went into attack mode.
It’s the only explanation I can think of for you taking such great offense to my mockery of the stereotypical Trumpanzie.
It wouldn't be so offensive to you if it wasn't true. So my comment must have accidentally been the truth.
I wasn’t offended drunky. I was responding to what you said. Like you ask. Then you answered like a total fucking hypocrite so I mocked you.
Judging by the fact that you’re attacking me, not what I said, I must assume that you know I am correct but are too dishonest to say it.
If you weren’t such a raving hypocrite on the subject we wouldn’t bother making it about you.
Oh wait, this was your first comment in the thread:
sarcasmic 2 hours ago Flag Comment Mute User Saw that. Wonder how the Faithful will spin it. Perhaps Powell was forced into a plea deal at gunpoint? Her family is being held hostage? She was a Democrat plant the entire time
You really don't understand the difference between commenting about stereotypes and making accusations against specific people?
That would explain a lot.
Hey look at sarc commenting on something I never said.
Wow. Your defense is “oh well, that’s how it works.” LOL.
Not like it is one of the primary libertarian arguments and has been for decades.
And bookmark.
Powell admitted taking actions after the 2020 election “for the purpose of willfully tampering with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines” and “with the intention of taking and appropriating information, data, and software, the property of Dominion Voting Systems Corporation,” according to new court filings.
Per video testimony.
Donnie needs to flee.
the recording of T instructing her to do that shit is totes damaging.
“for the purpose of willfully tampering with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines” and “with the intention of taking and appropriating information, data, and software, the property of Dominion Voting Systems Corporation,”
What the fuck does that even mean, Pluggo?
That she willfully tampered with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines?
Or that they're reading her mind and she planned to somehow tamper with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines by asking the court to investigate?
Even an idiot politruk like you has to see these are utterly nonsensical accusations. For a professed "liberal" you're certainly big into fascism.
Shouldn't that information be public?
From over a decade in jail to no jail time whatsoever.
Yeah, that seems legit.
Plea deals - or rather, the frequency thereof - are an invidious part of the US justice system, but as usual, the right-wingers never care about its injustice until their oxen are being gored (or until leopards are eating their faces).
This does not mean, of course, that any one plea deal is necessarily bad or wrong. There are good reasons to think that plea deals should be allowed. But it would also be a good idea if there were some oversight of prosecutors to prevent overcharging merely to secure a guilty plea to a lesser charge.
About the particular case of Squidney, I am unsure. We don't know what went on behind the scenes. We do know that Squidney explicitly rejected an Alford plea when she was asked in court. And we also know that she was front and centre in Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election so it's not too hard to imagine some criminality attaching - I don't think any of the people involved particularly cared about complying with the law.
Diet shrike is more libertarian than sarc.
"in Trump’s attempts IN COURT to overturn the 2020 election so it’s not too hard to imagine some criminality attaching"
Fixed that for you.
Why have we still not arrested Al Gore yet, BTW?
It didn't need fixing.
Pressuring Pence was also part of his attempt, getting fake electors, another.
Which one of those things was illegal, then? Pressuring your VP to do something legal or using precedents established in the 1870s, 1960, and 2000?
Also, what do either of those things have to do with legally contesting election results in the courts?
Any reason coverage of the recent capitol breach?
nobody got shot in the face this time so double-plus insurrection.
Desparate attempts at equating a violent protest in Cannon House with larger and more sustained violent protests at the Capitol itself.
Wait, what, the Canon Rotunda isn't on Capitol Hill?
https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/10/19/israel-hamas-protesters-swarm-house-buidling-washington-arrests/71237857007/
It's on Capitol Hill, but it's not part of the Capitol.
Oh, well that's somehow different then, because it's the offices and not the chamber.
Only 300 arrests, disrupted congress, attacked capitol officers, damaged buildings... nothing like J6 which disrupted congress, attacked capitol officers, damaged buildings, and was shot while doing it. See, different.
I sincerely hope to see Jamaal Bowman brought up on the same charges J6 people have been.
The roundup is so much better now with Liz. Thanks Liz.
has anybody run a welfare check on Chuck Schumer? dude's totes disappeared since 10/7
Hopefully he got a one-way flight to Gaza.
Edward Luttwak has an interesting take about how Israel might focus on the tunnels if/when they send boots in
The bright side is that such a mission could be relatively short and with a clear victory point.
The dark side (not in the article - this is what I'm filling in) is that pretty much nothing happening from the air right now furthers that mission. The mission from the air now is simply rage and Stalingrad with little/no focus on Hamas. Just level the place for as long as Americans pay for it all. And why not - that works well. We've got a senile fool in charge, an unlimited money tree, and a stupid hopped-up population.
I haven't been paying much attention to the House Speaker election, who's holding up the election of Jordan? Matt Gaetz and those far-right Nazi super-duper extremist MAGA fuckers? I'll bet it's Matt Gaetz and those far-right Nazi super-duper extremist MAGA fuckers, isn't it?
It had totally fallen apart when you had posted yesterdays roundup. I had watched the evidence presented by the IDF. There were numerous pictures of the event, both the rocket falling and the aftermath which clearly showed it hit the parking lot.
Don't get me wrong, you are still just about the best person here, but even you rushed to push the story instead of actually researching it.
The headline said "nobody knows", but the actual post made it pretty clear that it was almost certainly not an Israeli bomb
"California Gov. Gavin Newsom goes to China."
Can we trade him for a panda?
The Panda refused to go to California.
Something about taxes and shit in the streets.
"As I wrote yesterday, we simply did not know very much at the time."
Then don't publish until you do know. It ain't that hard.
I'm not in the least bit surprised that the news media got the story wrong. However, how can anyone KNOW that they got it wrong when you can never really KNOW what the truth is?
Critical thinking and skepticism are absent and probably beyond the current capabilities of our traditional media in general and The New York Times in particular. The latter propaganda dispensing broadsheet has abandoned the journalistic standards of such former stalwarts as Abe Rosenthal and Scotty Reston to again embrace its historically shameless ones of Guido Enderis, Walter Duranty, and Herbert Matthews. Anyone who thinks the journalice working for what now should be recognized as the N.Y. Slimes have a tradition of probity would do well to read Ashley Rindsberg's book, The Gray Lady Winked: How the New York Times 's Misreporting, Distortions & Fabrications Radically Alter History.
A palate cleanser from all-around cool guy Arthur Brooks: "Aristotle's 10 Rules for a Good Life."
From what I caught it was about Aristotle's idea of opening yourself up to happiness...
But the rest was paywalled, so dammit, I'm not happy!

😉
Looks like we now may have an expansion of the war story.
There are drone attacks on US bases in both Syria and Iraq. Northern Iraq, western Iraq, southern Syria, and northeastern Syria Drones are really cheap - and fundamentally change warfare in ways that are not good for the US - but you can bet that the propaganda machines are revved up to blame Iran. And our establishment is itching for that war.
And a US destroyer in the Red Sea has apparently intercepted a missile or more that were targeted towards Israel and launched from Yemen. So we are already directly in the war.
It looks like real journalists are getting killed/targeted in the war. 21 or so confirmed dead so far - 1 Lebanese, 3 Israeli, 17 Palestinian. The media that are definitely part of the 'targeted' are Reuters, AFP, and AlJazeera. Those can all have bias problems but at least they are doing at-real-risk journalism.
Obviously, none of the 'journalists' linked to from Reason are in any danger unless they get electrocuted in their pajamas spilling coffee on their laptop while 'talking with' their 'sources'.
A war between two corrupt eastern european countries fighting over ethinc/land disputes for the last few hundred years and a war between two groups over the same land, one essentially an eastern european colony set up during the final days of the British empire in the middle east and folks living on the same land who were poorly organized, funded, and educated...neither have any impact on America so you have to wonder why we are so obsessed with both? Most immigrant groups leave the old world behind them and don't obsess with having young American mostly rural poor kids (the one demographic the neocons pushing for war hate with passion) die for old world greviences. Maybe it is time to ask why? I don't see Italian Americans screaming for US funding a Southern Italian anti Piedmont resistance movement. Sorry not our business..if you are that concerned move to Ukraine or Israel and sign up...stop dragging the US into your old world issues.
