Meet the Students Pushing Back Against Socialism
"It's very easy for politicians to legislate freedom away," says Northwood University's Kristin Tokarev. "But it's incredibly hard to get back."

Government imposes a million rules. Americans seem to want more!
Leftists want new gun laws and bans on single-use plastics, gas stoves, fossil fuels, gas-powered cars, nuclear power.
Conservatives want to ban porn and books that discuss gender identity and critical race theory.
People just accept bans on recreational drugs, flavored vapes, and menthol cigarettes.
Thomas Jefferson said, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain."
What he predicted keeps happening.
Ignorant young people are especially eager to ban things like "offensive" speech and "excess" profit. Some would happily ban capitalism.
Fortunately, there are some students who buck the trend.
"It's very easy to lose freedom," says Northwood University's Kristin Tokarev in my new video. "It's very easy for politicians to legislate freedom away. But it's incredibly hard to get back."
Tokarev is one of the winners of my video contest. My nonprofit, Stossel in the Classroom, provides videos to teachers who want teaching aids that help explain economics. Every year, we give out $25,000 in prizes to college, high school and middle school students who write the best essays or make the best videos.
This year's competition is underway. If you know teachers, please let them know about it. The deadline for entries is March 31.
Tokarev watched my videos in school. She found them "more engaging" than listening to a professor lecture.
Unfortunately, most students don't watch our videos.
Instead, teachers tell them that capitalism is a problem.
If they don't hear that in school, they hear it from media. "If capitalism works…why does it seem to give such a raw deal?" complains MSNBC's Ari Melber. His guest, Michael Moore, eagerly agrees.
"I can't say I'm pro-capitalist without friends, or people on the internet telling me, 'How could you?" says Tokarev. "Everything on social media is, 'eat the rich,' 'kill capitalism.' It's synonymous with greed."
I push back. "That's fair. Capitalists want more money for themselves."
"But with more money, I can create something," she answers. "Then you get new products and innovation."
High school student Kaden Morgan made a video that points out how everyone now "is living a better life than even the richest men of the 1800s" because of capitalism's innovation.
"We got air conditioning, cell phones, microwaves, we got stinking toilets!" he cheerfully exclaims.
Of course, the media are right to point out that because of capitalism, income inequality has increased.
I say to Tokarev, "Some people are really filthy rich. Others don't have enough."
"Under capitalism," she replies, "there's going to be people who are wealthier and some who are poorer. But you have the opportunity to become wealthier! Under socialism, sure, everybody is equal, but they're all equally poor!"
I wish more Americans understood that.
Jaboukie Young-White of The Daily Show asked young people what they thought of socialism. "Socialism is on point!" said one. Then she admits, "I don't really know what socialism means."
Tokarev knows. She learned not just from our videos, but from her dad, who grew up under socialism in Bulgaria. Not only were people poor, but modern music was even banned.
"He couldn't listen to rock music without fear of persecution," she says.
The only way he could hear what Americans heard was to smuggle in tapes. "The quality was awful, but he would play them all day."
"What does music have to do with socialism versus capitalism?" I ask.
"Everything!" she responds. "In one system, you're allowed to enjoy it freely. In another system, you're being controlled."
Many of this year's video and essay contestants focused on freedom versus control.
"Individual liberty is crucial for people and communities to flourish," says Ian Hunter, the Concordia University student who won first place in the college division.
"Freedom is essential not only to prosper, to make money," adds Tokarev, "but it's essential to be yourself."
I wish our politicians would listen to these kids.

Conservatives want to ban porn and books that discuss gender identity and critical race theory.
No. They don't.
Geez fuck, man. Completely ignoring any sense of nuance to arguments about what's appropriate for a school curriculum, or that a minority of people who might be staunch don't represent "conservatives" seems to be the only way to argue things here.
Do better.
These days I think you're at least as likely to hear progressives talk about banning porn as conservatives. Because... something something... degrading to women ... mumble mumble...
Nevermind we're talking about an industry where the performers enter into it willingly and where women are paid, on average, far more than men are.
What does this word "women" you keep using mean?
Look, he's a cynical asshole, not a biologist.
But I think he's right. Progressives, before they decided to throw women under the bus in favor of "women" (who might have a penis or might not), were definitely amongst the loudest ones trying to save the porn stars from themselves. My wanting to watch Lesbian Spank Inferno or whatever was just another sign of my toxic masculinity, as well. Hating on porn worked for the progressivees on lots of levels.
This was not far from the foundation of progressivism, actually. Using the power of government to "better" the lives of people, which of course turned into things like...
Here's an example. Victorian era, the big deal was stopping women from being prostitutes, to save them. But the only jobs available to women were teachers and maids and the like. So they'd save them from the horrible life of being a prostitute, but the stigma became so unbelievably strong nobody on earth would hire a former harlot for household staff, nursing, or to teach their kids. So they were destitute. Saved, but still zero possibility of any future.
This is progressives (and anyone else who wants to save you from yourself) in a nutshell. Do what feels good, and is trendy, and who gives a shit about the downstream consequences.
I without a doubt have made $18,000 inside a calendar month through operating clean jobs from a laptop. As I had misplaced my ultimate business, I changed into so disenchanted and thank God I searched this easy task accomplishing ewes this I’m equipped to reap ham thousands of bucks simply from my home. All of you could really be part of this pleasant task and will gather extra cash on-line……. https://Www.topoffer1.com
Man hating neo feminists are angry deranged bitches. They’re usually ugly and/or fat. So they want to punish everyone because they’re ugly and/or fat.
“‘Conservatives want to ban porn and books that discuss gender identity and critical race theory.”
“No. They don’t.”‘
When it comes to porn, most (though not all) of the complainers about “porn” I have heard about in my adulthood (I have been and “adult” for over fifty years), have come from the right — what we used to call the “religious right.” And they have often called for banning it — an their definition of “porn” can be rather… stupid.
I remember, while attending a black-tie affair while promoting my business, that the other couple assigned to our table was complaining about the child porn the hotel was offering on its in-room TV service. The “child porn” to which they were referring was Zeffirelli’s production of “Romeo and Juliet.” That is pretty “out there” and, I can say with full faith this not typical “conservative” stance.
You know, there are plenty of religious folks who might vote republican. Nobody says otherwise.
That said, the stereotype of “conservative” still seems to be the 1960s, starched collar, religious, social conservative from back when you were not an yet an adult.
I have run into younger (than me, I’m gen X) people who think it was Republicans who were for banning explicit lyrics in rock music (that was Tipper Gore’s crusade). Or Republicans who introduced the Communcations Decency Act (that was Senator Exon, a Democrat, cosponsored by one Republican) or a million other things…
You get it. Not everyone who isn’t a Republican is AOC or “the squad” or whatever. Not everyone who isn’t a Democrat is an angry redfaced redneck Christian in 1966. Liberals are decidedly not Progressives, and I think the progressives might be the most puritanical of all the political sects today, and that includes evangelicals. Though that’s just my take, I have zero data to back it.
Lots of my friends are very conservative. Most are not Republicans, though none of the conservatives are Democrats. My Democrat friends tend to be liberal and not progressive. Almost universally, we just want to not give a shit. Leave me alone. Do whatever wacky shit you want in your own home, but leave me out of it. And that’s a very major part of modern conservatism, we want to right no not care.

The Barry Goldwater brand of Conservatism is definitely pro-Libertarian, and I loved Barry and love his Goldwater Institute all the way.
However, the Religious Right is definitely anti-Libertarian and they did support both Tipper Gore and James Exum in their censorship activities. Their present incarnation as NatCons are downright harbingers and supporters of a New Dark Ages. Between them and the Progressive Trigglypuff Snowflakes, free inquiry and a free culture are in dire peril.
Hell, I think we may have seen that version of Romeo and Juliet in Junior High School.
🙂
I can remember hearing radio preaching from Rev. Joe Chambers condemning He-Man and She-Ra as both Devil Worship and Secular Humanism, since the cartoons held that Man, not God, could be Masters of the Universe and the characters summoned their strength "By the Power of Greyskull."
About this same time, Rad-Fems Andrea Dworkin and Susan Brownmiller were supporting an anti-porn ordinance in Indianapolis that would have outlawed porn as a violation of women's "civil rights."
Later, Rev. Joe Chambers condemned the whole Harry Potter franchise. Seems he had the jump (pardon the humor) on the Trans activists.
It really is "Boaf Sides" when it comes to pecksniffs and prigs out to spoil other people's harmless good time.
*facepalm*
Translation: "I'm a fucking idiot who doesn't even know what this is but we should totally do it because I think it means MOAR FREE SHIT for idiot losers like me!"
"Socialism no cap on point, fr fr"
Ong, ngl.
... so I'm assuming you didn't pair these videos with libertarian arguments against public education?
What on earth are you talking about? Does being in a public school disqualify us from wanting education reform?
My assumption regarding Stossel's behavior is very clear.
That said...
That's a whole new sentence that is 100% irrelevant to what I wrote.
Redistribute GPA scores and see how quickly the smarter students abandon "equity."
Harvard did that with SAT scores.
Socialism is pretending Guns can make sh*t...
Guns don't make sh*t..
And that is why every socialist country fails and becomes a h*llhole.
I worked part-time from my apartment and earned $30,030. After losing my previous business, I quickly became exhausted. Fortunately, I discovered this jobs online, and as a result, I was able to start earning money from home right away. Anyone can accomplish this elite career and increase their internet income by….

Under German Eugenic Christian National Socialism the idea was to breed altruists blonde like Hitler, muscular slim and athletic like Goering and tall and lithe like Goebbels. Ask the Jesus Caucus about this... ? (https://bit.ly/3izsEKj)
Yeah, you’re an antichrist bigot. We know Hank.
Now fuck off.
Keeping porn and other sexual subjects away from young children is banning.
Got it, John.
(yet another author at Reason to not click)
If you think And Tango Makes Three is porn, that says more about you then it does the book.
Or are you pretending that isn't on the list of books being pulled?
Kristen Tokarev…Would!
Also, I'm waiting on Rev. Artie to say something about Kaden Morgan. A little too close to home, Artie?
🙂
Do we meet both of them?
>I push back. "That's fair. Capitalists want more money for themselves."
at the expense of everyone else.
It's not Capitalists who're packing GUNS to steal money...
EARNING it is the very foundation of a Just Society.
Capitalists only get more money (which pretty much everyone wants) if they produce something that other people are willing to pay for. (i.e. mutual gain, not a zero-sum transfer)
The truly greedy types are the people who want to take money from someone who acquired it peacefully.
Where did he find students opposed to socialism, and how did they resist the brainwashing?
Is Kristin related to Fedor Tokarev?
The problem, even in Stossel's account, is that capitalism is a system. That it is something instituted by government.
NOT TRUE!
Capitalism is the ABSENCE of a system. It's just people getting along and trading with each other. More technically, the freedom to use their capital (money, tools, factories) to make things and then sell them. The more government imposes rules on how people can produce, trade, and consume, the less capitalism there is. It doesn't even have to be direct, government favors to selected businesses and industries reduces capitalism and we get cronyism instead. A form of economic fascism.
So stop referring to capitalism as a system, as that implies that it's just one choice among different brands on supermarket shelf. Rather the choice is between free people or government control over people.
+10000000000000 Well Said.
'....Conservatives want to ban porn and books that discuss gender identity and critical race theory.... No stupid. The porn and gender books will still be on Amazon but will be age restricted in places where young children are present. As far as history is concerned CRT is on par with teaching children the holocaust never happened.
And still not banned from Reason.
Consenting adults, "working from home"...
So long as they pay their taxes.
