The Independents Strike Back
If you make the government feel too dangerous, a corrective bloc of voters will pour cold water on your face.

The Monterey pine tree of California's Central Coast has developed an ingenious method for propagating the species in a state bedeviled by irregular wildfire: The evergreen's distinctive pine cones, sealed shut by a protective resin, open to release their seeds only in response to extreme heat. Competing brush having been newly cleared by fire, the serotinous sentinels are then better positioned to produce new growth.
Elections operate on a more regular schedule than California conflagrations, and those November Tuesdays don't always rise to the level of catastrophe for an entire political party. But the surprise 2021 victory of GOP outsider Glenn Youngkin over heavily favored Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe in Virginia's gubernatorial race, along with a handful of other shock victories for Republicans and shock defeats for pet progressive causes, was greeted by many left-leaners in the political class as a potentially terrain-changing calamity.
"Democrats need to go back to school," wrote Washington Post columnist James Hohmann. New York Times editorial board business and economics writer Binyamin Appelbaum produced a damning post-election video pointing out that "it is in the blue states where affordable housing is often hardest to find, there are some of the most acute disparities in education funding, and economic inequality is increasing most quickly."
Irascible Democratic strategist James Carville was even more blunt, telling PBS anchor Judy Woodruff, "What went wrong is this stupid wokeness." Carville elaborated: "Don't just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis. Even look at Seattle, Washington. I mean, this defund-the-police lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln's name off of schools…people see that, and it…just really [has] a suppressive effect all across the country [for] Democrats. Some of these people need to go to a woke detox center or something. They're expressing language that people just don't use, and there's a backlash and a frustration at that."
The parties of first-term presidents tend to take a drubbing at the ballot box in non-presidential-election years. Since World War II, only one rookie president has seen his party gain congressional seats in his first midterm elections: George W. Bush in 2002, at the height of post-9/11, pre–Iraq War fever, and his GOP gained just eight seats in the House of Representatives. The other 11 first-term presidents watched their parties lose an average of 29 House seats. Three of the last four presidents incurred three of the top four losses: Barack Obama's 63 in 2010, Bill Clinton's 52 in 1994, and Donald Trump's 40 in 2018.
It makes intuitive sense that elections ostensibly having nothing to do with the White House are increasingly becoming referenda on the country's chief executive. The federal government has metastasized so quickly that the size of the federal deficit alone in fiscal year 2021 ($2.77 trillion) is larger than the entire amount of federal spending every year in the country's history through 1997, adjusted for inflation.
The commander in chief now has unchecked power to drone U.S. citizens to death or detain them indefinitely without criminal charge. His surveillance state routinely vacuums up information about the communications activities of all of us, warrant or no. The administrative state he oversees has become a free-floating enforcer of presidential whims, such as the national eviction moratorium that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintained for 12 months and the vaccine mandate that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration imposed on private businesses in November.
As power in the capital has swollen, civic and journalistic activity in the hinterlands has withered, so political energy and attention during our apprehensive times inevitably fixate on the personality at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It's no wonder that midterm swings have gotten larger, or that state and local politicians try to make their campaigns about the sitting (or even former) president.
But it's a mistake to treat these developments as a fixed law of nature, grinding along irrespective of individual free will. For elections to swing from one party to another, you need swing voters. And as much as they are routinely maligned by those who make their living in politics, these swing voters have a name: the independents.
Even the narrowest definition of this bloc—people who vote for third-party and independent candidates—reveals an outsized influence on elections. For example, nontraditional presidential voters shrank by 3.9 percentage points between 2016 and 2020, from 5.7 percent (including 3.3 percent for Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson) to 1.8 percent of the electorate. The Democratic nominee's share of the popular vote, meanwhile, climbed by 3.1 percentage points; Trump gained 0.8 percentage points. Exit polls in 2020 showed that 59 percent of major-party returnees voted for Biden.
This trend was reflected not just in 2020 pre-election and exit polls of 2016 third-party/independent voters but also in the attitudes of more broadly defined "independents." Gallup, Pew, and several other public opinion organizations ask people to describe their political affiliations (Democratic, Republican, or independent), and that question produces a number considerably larger than 5.7 percent. In the case of Gallup, which has been asking the question since 1988, "independent" has been the No. 1 answer in every survey since 2013, reaching an all-time high of 50 percent in February 2021.
Trump narrowly beat Hillary Clinton among self-described independents in 2016, 43 percent to 42 percent, according to Pew. But throughout his tumultuous presidency, this bloc never once gave him a job approval rating higher than 47 percent, even as nine out of 10 Republicans routinely gave their standard-bearer a thumbs-up.
Biden started his term with an approval rate among independents that Trump could only dream of: 61 percent. But from there it plummeted, all the way down to 34 percent as of October 2021. In our negatively polarized times, when party members stand by their man in opposition to the other team, overall approval hinges on the attitudes of independents. The 46th president has had the worst first-year approval ratings, in the low 40s, of any modern president—except Donald Trump.
One reason some political commentators are forever writing articles headlined "The Myth of the Independent Voter" is that the bloc does not necessarily have a coherent and predictable set of ideological or political-consumer preferences. Furthermore, the group contains internal clumps that usually vote for the same party across elections. Both critiques are true. But they miss an important point.
Government overreach—in overall size, in meddling with private transactions, in regulating our intimate decisions, in punishing disfavored groups—can be likened to a forest fire: Eventually, it will burn high and hot enough for even the apolitical to feel the flames. We will be discovering and arguing over exactly what unsealed the rosin among the independent voters who seeded Democratic defeats in November 2021. But political professionals of all species need to relearn one clear lesson: If you make the government feel too dangerous, a corrective bloc of voters will pour cold water on your face. At a time of bipartisan big-government populism, such small victories may be the only thing that keeps us going.

As I saw mention of the defund-the-police movement, it occurred to me: You don't hear the NRA called the criminal lobby any more.
Oh, yeah...wurst!
They've folded and have been supportive of several types of gun control. They aren't the advocates they are supposed to be.
I think the lack of attacks against the NRA lately is due to recent mass shootings not being perpetrated by white guys. Once another white dude shoots a bunch of people or brings a gun to school we will hear attacks on the NRA again from the usual suspects.
No doubt, mass shootings by white guys would provoke more calls for gun control, but the explosion in first time gun buyers during the "most peaceful protests" over the summer of 2020 were driven by single suburban women and minorities--and that trend has continued amid the crime surge.
"First-time gun owners, young and old from across the country, are helping to push record levels of gun sales for what looks like the second year in a row . . . . These buyers are white, Black, Asian and Latino and come from all political beliefs. And they're being driven by uncertainty, fear and a need to feel safe.
Gun sellers across the country said the pandemic and civil unrest over the past year have pushed customers to feel they must take control of their families' protection.
https://www.npr.org/2021/04/26/989699122/1st-time-gun-buyers-help-push-record-u-s-gun-sales-amid-string-of-mass-shootings
The lack of recent mass shootings by white guys has been a contributing factor, but another big one may be that gun control is becoming unpopular with a critical mass of swing voters. I always trust the market data over the narrative, and, whatever the explanation, the explosion in first time gun buyers is real.
Good point. It's difficult for them to openly attempt to take guns from people who just bought them as a hedge against the unrest those same politicians have caused
Your political bias ignores the # 1 factor.
Lawsuits. They've been on the back burner, waiting for sufficient cause and damages to put weight behind them.
Its a serious matter to be able to push it to a 2A conclusion as precedence, and not have that precedence controlled by the anti gun folk.
Soneone at SAF told me about 10 years ago they were (paraphrased) ' waiting for the big fish.'
Its landed.
We should start suing the universities that lefty politicians attended for turning them into leftist radicals. I hear Harvard has a $40 billion endowment. I know I wouldn’t mind a slice of that fat money cake since these Marxist bastards have certainly cost me plenty.
At the national level, the NRA morphed into being more about the NRA than its mission. Wayne Lapierre loved wining and dining with the beautiful people.
The transition was on full display during the 2008 Republican primary. Ron Paul had an A+ rating from the NRA. Mitt Romney, while governor of Massachusetts, had signed into law a piece of legislation that banned certain “assault guns” that are legally owned and carried in neighboring New Hampshire.
Gunowners of America largely took over the actual gun rights battle.
There's a lot of that going around.
I knew 30 years ago that the NRA was more interested in selling magazines and logo-embossed gee-jaws and gimcracks than in actually defending The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. I also got some rude, shitty treatment from one of their General Counsel when I called to ask them a legal question.
If the Jackboots ever come for the guns, let them hit the NRA's office first to get a big head, then try and hit the rest of who don"t need the NRA to get that head deflated.
I suspect there's this, and the fact that with mid-terms on the horizon, the DNC and their progressive and leftist allies would like to keep gun control a quiet issue, given it polls poorly in the unsure environment they've created by defunding police departments.
You'd think so, but then, that leaves them without their easy NPC response to criticism of out-of-control crime. Which up until now has routinely been "Well, it's because of the evil guns being brought in from less-enlightened states!"
They're kind of stuck. Like when they wanted to attribute the assaults on Asians to racist whites "getting revenge for the Covid virus" (honest to God, I heard this floated multiple times!).
After it became glaringly obvious that every single recorded assault was committed by black guys, sometimes out of sheer racial animus, they were left without a "white supremacist" leg to stand on.
At one presser, they were blathering their usual word salad about dealing with hate crimes (without ever once naming the hate-crime-committing group, of course), and Nancy Pelosi started to say "Well, white supremacy, errr..." and all the other Dems just kind of looked at their shoes and she just stopped. It gave me a warm fuzzy to see it.
"If you make the government feel too dangerous, a corrective bloc of voters will pour cold water on your face."
If any voters look at the Trump-hijacked behavior of the GOP lately, and the cult-like followers of Trump, My-Pillow-Dude, Alex Jones, etc. ... And see NO danger of a 1-party "R"-state dictatorshit brewing here, then these voters are in need of some cold water in their faces!

Trump’s Big Lie and Hitler’s: Is this how America’s slide into totalitarianism begins?
The above is mostly strictly factual, with very little editorializing. When I post it, the FACTS never get refuted… I only get called names. But what do you expect from morally, ethically, spiritually, and intellectually bankrupt Trumpturds?
Totalitarians want to turn GOP into GOD (Grand Old Dicktatorshit).
Shut up you weasel autist
Wow, what an EXCELLENT and MOST data-driven refutation of my basic point!
Totalitarians want to turn GOP into GOD (Grand Old Dicktatorshit).
I now see that the above could not POSSIBLY be true! 'Cause Pepin the short said that I should shut up! Wow! How about THAT?!?!
Fuck off, troll.
Let's hope he takes his meds today.
Let’s hope he fatally overdoses on them.
His medication was recently changed and he is still adjusting to it.
Moar coma!
Is he still defending the pedophile shrike like yesterday?
He probably has similar interests.
That is a reasonable explanation.
Does he fuck children, or just kidnap them and eat their shit?
leave Biden out of this.
Which Biden?
Yes.
JesseBahnFuhrer is a necrophiliac! Pass it on!
Hey JesseBahnFuhrer... You have PROOF of these things? With what, like with high-fidelity, unadulterated video, and you COULD take it to court, winning a solid VICTORY for Truth, Justice, and the American Way... But can NOT, because of mind-control beams from the Lizard People?! What's your excuse?
The Lizard People ALSO screwed over Sidney Powell, using these same dastardly methods!
https://reason.com/2021/03/23/sidney-powell-says-shes-not-guilty-of-defamation-because-no-reasonable-person-would-have-believed-her-outlandish-election-conspiracy-theory/
Sidney Powell Says She’s Not Guilty of Defamation Because ‘No Reasonable Person’ Would Have Believed Her ‘Outlandish’ Election Conspiracy Theory
Which particular lies are you wanting to hear and believe today, hyper-partisan Wonder Child?
The basic argument of Atlas Shrugged is that mystical conservative nationalsocialists are necrophiliac. Both Hitler's Christian party platform and his Jew-baiting testament end with the ultimate sacrifice of death/suicide in the bottom line.
Yes, totalitarianism of all flavors favors death (rigidity, tight control of EVERYTHING) over life (free-flowing and chaotic; "let a thousand flowers bloom"). The hidden orders inside of chaotic (free) nature feeds life, and megalomaniacal power-lust kills life!
The list of high-ranking NAZI suicides is ugly but informative: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicides_in_Nazi_Germany and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_suicides_in_1945_Nazi_Germany
Hitler admired Islam you dumb fuck. Do you really think he wanted to follow a religion based on a Jewish man?
The Nazi version of Christianity was Positive Christianity, which was a de-Judaicized version of Christianity. Neo-Nazis in the U.S. also often gravitate to Christian Identity, which holds that the Twelve Tribes of Israel settled in Europe and became different nations there and that Jesus Christ was an Aryan. Hitler also gave a tip of the hat to Islam as well for it's own mystical, self-sacrificial, Jew-Hatred. So the answer is "Yes. Both."
Gotta be a rant from the infantile, TDS-addled, spastic asshole
SmegmaLung, this is NO way for you to earn yourself a SQRL necklace! NO SQRL necklace for YOU! BAD dog!
Death would only improve you.
I think democrats want to win elections at the exclusion of republicans, too.
But have democrats recently been in the business of saying, "Any votes that are NOT for MEEEE, must be fraudulent"?
Der TrumpfenFuhrer ***IS*** responsible for agitating for democracy to be replaced by mobocracy!
https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/24/politics/trump-election-warnings-leaving-office/index.html
A list of the times Trump has said he won’t accept the election results or leave office if he loses
Essential heart and core of the LIE by Trump: “ANY election results not confirming MEEE as Your Emperor, MUST be fraudulent!”
September 13 rally: “The Democrats are trying to rig this election because that’s the only way they’re going to win,” he said.
Trump’s constant re-telling and supporting the Big Lie (any election not electing Trump is “stolen”) set up the environment for this (insurrection riot) to happen. He shares the blame. Boys will be boys? Insurrectionists will be insurrectionists, trumpanzees gone apeshit will be trumpanzees gone apeshit, so let’s forgive and forget? Poor Trump was misunderstood? Does that sound good and right and true?
It really should immediately make us think of Krystallnacht. Hitler and the NAZIs set up for this by constantly blaming Jews for all things bad. Jew-haters will be Jew-haters, so let’s forgive and forget? Poor Hitler was misunderstood? Does that sound good and right and true?
Joe Biden is already questioning votes that haven’t even been cast yet. That counts.
Yes, have to agree. Biden said exactly the opposite of what he should have said to further his supposed purpose of unifying the country and strengthening confidence in elections. It was stupid.
That they can’t see they ahead of time is scary.
The Democrats are often tone deaf.
That's probably the most optimistic assessment. More likely they are too righteous to acknowledge dissent.
Psychotic.
Literally psychotic.
This. Right here.
The nazi platform makes it loud that altruism is good and Jews are selfish. There was a wave of "unto death" suicides in May 1945 all over German Reichland
(Partial repeat from further above).
The list of high-ranking NAZI suicides is ugly but informative: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicides_in_Nazi_Germany and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_suicides_in_1945_Nazi_Germany
When are you joining the list?
Never! And you?
You’re the Nazi.

Shove your citation up your ass with all the other things you keep in there.
If this is your justification for voting for Biden it is really weak. This is more about how anyone with even a little common sense should have known better. Can you add to the conversation?
They won’t let you comment at salon.com anymore: they couldn’t take open debate.
So come here, post their articles, and start rambling about the real problem.
Republican girl-bulliers were posting at Salon before they came here?
Who are these girl-bulliers?
Is Hank talking about the Girl Scouts who bully him again?
Your Salon article claims, "there is literally no evidence that mail-in voting being particularly susceptible to fraud." That's silly because all evidence shows the opposite.
A top Democratic operative says voter fraud, especially with mail-in ballots, is no myth. And he knows this because he’s been doing it, on a grand scale, for decades.
Mail-in ballots have become the latest flashpoint in the 2020 elections. While President Trump and the GOP warn of widespread manipulation of the absentee vote that will swell with COVID polling restrictions, many Democrats and their media allies have dismissed such concerns as unfounded.
But the political insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he fears prosecution, said fraud is more the rule than the exception. His dirty work has taken him through the weeds of municipal and federal elections in Paterson, Atlantic City, Camden, Newark, Hoboken and Hudson County and his fingerprints can be found in local legislative, mayoral and congressional races across the Garden State. Some of the biggest names and highest office holders in New Jersey have benefited from his tricks, according to campaign records The Post reviewed.
“An election that is swayed by 500 votes, 1,000 votes — it can make a difference,” the tipster said. “It could be enough to flip states.”
https://nypost.com/2020/08/29/political-insider-explains-voter-fraud-with-mail-in-ballots/
For decades mail in ballots and such were deemed corrupted by fraudulent elections around the world such as in Iraq and Venezuela. Jimmy carter himself and even the UN agreed. Now that it has been coopted by the elites they try to change the narrative.
Ga found thousands of double votes from mail in and then in person and declined to pursue or investigate. Salon ignores this even though the evidence is there solely because ga declined yo investigate.

Nothing is ever perfect. Not voting, and not food, even! "Food poisoning" is a "thing", you know... Sometimes even a DEADLY thing! You gonna stop eating?

Yeah, it’s the health inspectors who make the food bad.
So they recounted the same fraudulent votes. How does that help?

https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-trump-georgia-threats/ Trump-inspired death threats are terrorizing election workers
The article does describe realistic-sounding, quite labor-intensive methods for perpetrating enough fraud to sway small elections. The anonymous source even says his methods work better for small elections.
So, I do find it credible that the source may have really committed fraud in local New Jersey elections. But it is far from being a smoking gun for enough fraud across the United States to change the results of the 2020 presidential race.
It is one person's attempt. Your assertion is he is the only one appareny.
So, here in AZ, the numbers of probable fraudulent votes may be over a half million, according to the canvas, and 100k, in Maricopa county alone, according to the Senate audit.
A bunch of things appear to have been done:
- ballots mailed to people who moved away long ago, and were returned
- ballots illegally harvested by third parties
-insecure ballot drop boxes
- counting of ballots returned after the statutory deadline
- counting of ballots that were returned without signatures, without signature verification, without ID information, etc.
- ballots counted that had been printed on non approved paper by non approved printers (I.e. completely fabricated ballots).
-etc.
Biden’s margin of victory was 10k. Any one of these frauds was likely much more than that. But keep pretending it didnt happen.
Do you have a link with this information?
Sea lion wants evidence!
Okay, I found the audit report, and you are of course misrepresenting the findings.
https://www.azsenaterepublicans.com/_files/ugd/2f3470_d36cb5eaca56435d84171b4fe7ee6919.pdf
For example, your claim:
- ballots counted that had been printed on non approved paper by non approved printers (I.e. completely fabricated ballots).
is false. Here is what the report actually says:
A large number of the ballots from in-person voting, utilized paper that is not recommended by the manufacturer of the
tabulators for use in the systems. This can result in higher jam rates, more bleed through, and could theoretically impact
the readability of the ballots by the scanners, but this last case is extremely unlikely. At this time 10 different papers
have been found. Several of these paper stocks include paper with the weight from 20lb to 30lbs; when the generally
accepted best practice for voting is to utilize ballot stock of 80lbs or higher. Since this type of paper is generally not
tested within the equipment, nor part of the Logic and Accuracy testing, the effects of utilizing it is unclear.
So the election workers at in-person voting stations didn't use the exact same type of paper when printing ballots. OMG!
And you, and the right-wing disinformation machine, spin that into THOUSANDS OF BALLOTS WERE COMPLETELY FAKE!
Try being honest.
See, this is how it goes. Every single time some right-winger says "aha, here is the proof of the MASSIVE FRAUD I was talking about all along!", it turns out to be completely wrong. No one has found the supposed smoking gun. Which leads me to believe that there isn't a smoking gun.
Lol. Jeff chooses one part and dismisses the rest like a good leftist.
Still ignores the thousands of double votes and people who voted in the wrong precincts, both illegal.
Holy shit jeff. Youre a fucking idiot.
You wanna know where organized, top level election fixing is happening? Just look for places where one party stronghold has real trouble counting the votes.
See, it is really hard to rig an election if you don't know if you need to rig it, or how many votes you need.
So when you see a couple of democrat strongholds in Minnesota have trouble with ballots in the Al Franken election, and then suddenly some boxes of ballots are found that sway the outcome... Well... There is your model.
So if Republican suburbs north of Atlanta can't get polling machines to work right, keep precincts open late and don't report numbers until after the big democrat areas are all in, you have good reason to suspect foul play when the count comes in late with record turnout, swaying the election.
Yes, I will absolutely believe at face value the claims made by an anonymous source who tells a story that fits exactly into the Republican narrative. There can't be any hanky-panky going on here at all.
You believed anonymous sources for the last 5 years. And still do.
My anonymous source can beat up your anonymous source!
Why is that different than “anonymous sources inside the White House”?
Good question. I note plenty of commenters who got the vapors over "anonymous sources" saying mean things about Trump, but who were completely credulous when "anonymous sources" said mean things about Democrats.
So I will always take "anonymous sources" with a grain of salt. They could be right, but I'm not going to accept it at face value.
And an "anonymous source" that just perfectly aligns with the narrative of one party? Yeah that one sets off my bullshit meter.
Posters like yourself who pushed trump russia, soldiers comments, impeachment, etc...
The problem is we know people have been caught doing things as addressed in the article. People have been convicted of fraudulent mail on votes idiot.
Yet you believe the sources backed by nothing instead of auditable data.
You are talking to a malicious liar.
Agreed.
I don’t call him Lying Jeffy for nothing.
Wait. You said “all evidence”, then you cited one anonymous source talking about elections in New Jersey. That doesn’t seem like “all”.
There were failed lawsuits and audits and recounts in several states after the 2020 presidential election that revealed no fraud.
You've been given dozens of examples including more than a dozen court cases for illegal election changes, actual indictments, examples of states declining to pursue double voting.
You leftists remain intentionally ignorant.
Now get back to me when double-votes that are found, are still counted for the candidate!
He knows deep down it’s all true, but he has to push The Narrative. His masters have directed him to not believe the truth.
https://fortune.com/2021/12/14/trump-voter-fraud-investigation-biden-battleground-states-only-475-potential-voter-fraud-cases/
Investigation finds only 475 cases of potential voter fraud in battleground states won by Biden
From there, import below...
An Associated Press review of every potential case of voter fraud in the six battleground states disputed by former President Donald Trump has found fewer than 475 — a number that would have made no difference in the 2020 presidential election.
Democrat Joe Biden won Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and their 79 Electoral College votes by a combined 311,257 votes out of 25.5 million ballots cast for president. The disputed ballots represent just 0.15% of his victory margin in those states.
The cases could not throw the outcome into question even if all the potentially fraudulent votes were for Biden, which they were not, and even if those ballots were actually counted, which in most cases they were not.
The review also showed no collusion intended to rig the voting. Virtually every case was based on an individual acting alone to cast additional ballots.
The findings build on a mountain of other evidence that the election wasn’t rigged, including verification of the results by Republican governors.
Weird.
More than 1,700 Georgians were singled out for illegally casting two ballots in 2020 elections –
Associated press huh.
https://theohiostar.com/2020/12/15/as-the-u-s-senate-runoffs-approach-georgia-declines-prosecuting-the-double-voters-they-catch/
That is one state.
You also seem to think each instance only changed one vote.
Ykure a pedophile defending moron.
No fraud, but the election math is catastrophically inconsistent within itself and the announced outcome.
Seems totes legit
"Associated press huh." ANY source that disagrees with the Known Trumpaloo stance can NOT be correct! And THAT refutes said source!

Summary: "My looter kleptocrats goood, those other looter kleptocrats baaad." Libertarians already know all of you for robbers, liars bullies and frauds, so who you foolin?
So Matt's Squelch (PEW, what's that smell?) steps in spoiler vote clout without realizing it is what changes laws. Most Reason writers are better at telling stink from shinola. Orwell wrote: A Communist and a Fascist are somewhat nearer to one another than either is to a libertarian. Does Matt grok this?
What???
His dementia is almost as bad as Biden’s.
"Trump egged his supporters to attack the Capitol."
That's a blatant lie. He literally said go and peacefully protest.
If democrats didn’t have lies then they would have nothing.
Just a few snippets from Trump's speech that day:
https://www.npr.org/2021/02/10/966396848/read-trumps-jan-6-speech-a-key-part-of-impeachment-trial
"We will not let them silence your voices. We're not going to let it happen, I'm not going to let it happen."
"And I actually, I just spoke to Mike [Pence]. I said: "Mike, that doesn't take courage. What takes courage is to do nothing. That takes courage." And then we're stuck with a president who lost the election by a lot and we have to live with that for four more years. We're just not going to let that happen."
"We want to go back and we want to get this right because we're going to have somebody in there that should not be in there and our country will be destroyed and we're not going to stand for that."
"And you have to get your people to fight. And if they don't fight, we have to primary the hell out of the ones that don't fight. You primary them. We're going to. We're going to let you know who they are. I can already tell you, frankly."
"Now, it is up to Congress to confront this egregious assault on our democracy. And after this, we're going to walk down, and I'll be there with you, we're going to walk down, we're going to walk down.
Anyone you want, but I think right here, we're going to walk down to the Capitol, and we're going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we're probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them.
Because you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong. We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated, lawfully slated."
"Today we see a very important event though. Because right over there, right there, we see the event going to take place. And I'm going to be watching. Because history is going to be made. We're going to see whether or not we have great and courageous leaders, or whether or not we have leaders that should be ashamed of themselves throughout history, throughout eternity they'll be ashamed.
And you know what? If they do the wrong thing, we should never, ever forget that they did. Never forget. We should never ever forget."
"We will not be intimidated into accepting the hoaxes and the lies that we've been forced to believe."
And his entire speech was a huge litany of examples of what he considered to be incontrovertible proof of fraud. If one were to actually take at face value everything that he said, why wouldn't you go to Congress and start smashing shit? After all, according to Trump, the fraud is obvious, the only reason Republicans aren't challenging it is because they're weak, the only reason SCOTUS ruled against him is because they want to be a part of the Georgetown Cocktail Party circuit, and that when there's fraud, the Constitution doesn't apply. (Yes he actually said that.)
"The Constitution doesn't allow me to send them back to the States. Well, I say, yes it does, because the Constitution says you have to protect our country and you have to protect our Constitution, and you can't vote on fraud. And fraud breaks up everything, doesn't it? When you catch somebody in a fraud, you're allowed to go by very different rules."
So his entire message was literally:
1. the election was stolen
2. nobody is going to do anything about it using legal procedures
3. so it's up to you to "fight like hell".
Let's not pretend that the outcome was in any way unexpected.
You are citing NPR?
Lol. The bolded is what you take issue with? General platitudes found in political speeches all the time?
Jeff. Youre a fucking idiot.
Now go home in peace.
When were we bringing Maxine Waters up on sedition charges?
Do you really expect an answer?
Time to deflect for Team Red!
He calls you an ignorant hypocrite for bilding platitudes said by many politicians and this is your response.
Lol. Jeff. Youre a fucking idiot.
I, for one, refuse to believe that you have uncovered a sui generis Salon article that has "very little editorializing. My interest is piqued, not because I believe the My Pillow Guy (OR Alex Jones) pose any threat to democracy, but because I am curious to see this rara avis Salon article.
"It is a Big Lie being embraced to advance a racist, anti-democratic agenda. Anyone who doesn't stand up to that Big Lie today would have likely been complicit in Hitler's Big Lie last century." p3 Light on editorializing, eh?
"Shortly before Trump egged on his supporters to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6, " p4 Oh, is this the "fact" you're "proving"? Sounds like it doesn't really need "proof" since it is presented as "fact" in advance.
"Ted Cruz of Texas argued that America should rely on a white nationalist precedent"
p4, links to a source for this claim...another Salon article.p4
"...the official moment when the Republican Party abandoned its historic commitment to civil rights and betrayed the African American community, allowing racist political structures to prevail unchallenged..." p5
Leaving unsaid that it was THE DEMOCRATS who instituted and ruled atop those horrible "racist political structures".
"...attempted to stay in power through a coup." last paragraph, again begging the question.
Jebus, this blog post by a woketard cultist is your "factual" "proof"?
What a waste of time. You're deranged, mentally damaged and dumb. I think "neuro-atypical" was invented to have something less offensive to call people like you than "moron". You moron.
Reason commentators have spent the last 2 years applauding government overreach and authoritarianism over Covid, CRT etc. The voter backlash that's coming has nothing to do with people finally arriving at Reason's philosophical views but in SPITE of them as expressed in recent years.
Reason is so out of touch with people today that it actually runs headlines like "If You Want To Fight Monopolies, Fight Occupational Licensing" while defending the complete destruction of free speech in this country because of the total control of public speech by massive monopolies that basically own the political class. The worst part is how supposedly thoughtful talking heads dismissively blurt out canned talking points like "If you don't like Facebook, start your own social media." as if we have no idea of how impossible that is, especially with the collusion of big tech to destroy competitors that manage to get traction.
Reason has lost its way and maybe it's been captured by the very institutions it pretends to stand against. But we can always depend on it to support marijuana legalization, (brought to you by the Marijuana Legalization consortium).
"If you don't like Facebook, start your own social media."
Or you could be a PAYING CUSTOMER, and THEN you get your say (since the PAYING customer is the boss), instead of begging FacePoooo to get your $0.00 back, when they took down your stuff-and-stuff!
I pay (PAY! With MY money! I OWN!) for my own web site at Go-Daddy. I say some VERY sarcastic and un-politically-correct, intolerant things about cults like Scientology there (and Government Almighty as well). I am QUITE sure that a LOT of “tolerant” liberal-type folks at Google etc. would NOT be happy with the types of things I wrote! Yet, if you do a search-string “Scienfoology”, Google will take you STRAIGHT to MY web site, top hit! #1!

Your whining and crying is (just about ) UTTERLY without basis!
Fuck off, troll.
Make me, ID-thieving "Christian Theology Expert"!
Compared to you, you bet I'm a theologian. You're one of the most ignorant fucks I've ever come across.
https://reason.com/2021/03/24/for-the-first-time-a-majority-of-republicans-support-same-sex-marriage/#comment-8822506
Have you figured out yet, how many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Many of us are waiting with bated breath!
Also, how is Your Followership building up? I mean, for Your “Expert Theologians for Worshipful Methods of Identity Theft”? Where do we subscribe to Your Newsletter?
Hear, hear, HEAR ye the self-righteous preachings of MammaryBahnFuhrer! (Imported below). She knows JUST the right “Popular-with-the-Cool-Kids-in-Her-Own-Mind” theology to espouse, along with wearing JUST the right hairstyle, whorestyle, purse, and other accessories! Meanwhile, in the EXACT same source, She engaged in identity theft! Her heart, is truth, is a ravening black holes of hypocrisy, greedy self-righteousness, and other evils!
Now, the preachings of The Great Mammary. Note that She picks the verses that say that the right BELIEFS and whorestyles get you “in” with the “in” crowd, and then you’re free to engage in ID theft and other evils, at will!
Mammary-style whorestyles below:
It amazes me how Americans living in a purportedly Christian culture don't even understand the basic tenets of its theology.
Pretty much the whole point of Christianity is that everyone has sinned and is worthy of damnation so God became a human and took our punishment for us. And the libertarian angle is, that you still have a choice to accept or reject the gift already given.
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Romans 6:23 ESV: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:16-17 ESV: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Was I wrong? Point out what was inaccurate, Trollboy.
We can pick and chose our Bible verses to justify ANY evils we WANT TO justify! And YOU equate "fashionable theology to justify ANY evil shit that I want to do" with Your fashionable hairstyle and whorestyle! Got the right fashionable BELIEFS, and so then The Queen can do WHATEVER she wants! Your BELIEFS will protect You from the consequences of Your evil actions? Do You not GET this, Oh Fashionable Queen of the Internet Cesspools?
I hate to put more ideas into Your EVIL mind... But... If You think that "pick and chose what you want" is the RIGHT way to go, then, next, are You going to use the below, to FURTHER justify Your evils?
God COMMANDS us to kill EVERYONE!
Our that them thar VALUES of society outta come from that them thar HOLY BIBLE, and if ya read it right, it actually says that God wants us to KILL EVERYBODY!!! Follow me through now: No one is righteous, NONE (Romans 3:10). Therefore, ALL must have done at least one thing bad, since they’d be righteous, had they never done anything bad. Well, maybe they haven’t actually DONE evil, maybe they THOUGHT something bad (Matt. 5:28, thoughts can be sins). In any case, they must’ve broken SOME commandment, in thinking or acting, or else they'd be righteous. James 2:10 tells us that if we've broken ANY commandment, we broke them ALL. Now we can’t weasel out of this by saying that the New Testament has replaced the Old Testament, because Christ said that he’s come to fulfill the old law, not to destroy it (Matt. 5:17). So we MUST conclude that all are guilty of everything. And the Old Testament lists many capital offenses! There’s working on Sunday. There’s also making sacrifices to, or worshipping, the wrong God (Exodus 22:20, Deut. 17:2-5), or even showing contempt for the Lord’s priests or judges (Deut. 17:12). All are guilty of everything, including the capital offenses. OK, so now we’re finally there... God’s Word COMMANDS us such that we’ve got to kill EVERYBODY!!!
(I am still looking for that special exception clause for me & my friends & family… I am sure I will find it soon!)
"God COMMANDS us to kill EVERYONE!"
Oh? Where?
Because your
dubious statementretarded claim isn't found in any Christian Bible, Jewish Tanakh, Islamic Qur'an or any Hindu or Buddhist scriptures. You're so amazingly ignorant.
You're TOO stupid to follow some simple linear logic? Simplified for morons, no one is righteous (all are sinners), and if we've broken one rule, we've broken them ALL, and there are MANY "capital offenses"! So we have ALL "capitally offended"! Backed up by "chapter and verse"!
If You (Oh Queen of Internet Cesspools) are TOO stupid to follow elementary logic, I can NOT help You! (More accurately and to the actual point I intend to make, Arrogant Ones who are willfully addicted to Their Perfection, can NOT be helped against their will!)
Either answer the question properly, or fuck off trollboy. Don't try to redirect or pettifog.
You clearly stated, and I quote: "God’s Word COMMANDS us such that we’ve got to kill EVERYBODY!!!"
I asked you explicitly, where any scripture, in any faith, commands "US" to kill everybody.
Now you are trying to bring the doctrine of spiritual death and the curse of mortality in instead, and pretending you meant that. Knowing full well that that's got nothing to do with "us" killing everyone.
You're so dishonest.
Can You READ, Mammary-Fuhrer? WHY can't You even follow this simple SUMMARY? When "God" told the ancient Israelites (supposedly "followers of God") to kill all of these various "criminals", WHO do You think "GOD" was talking to? The Lizard People maybe? The Lizard People are supposed to be our executioners? This DOES sound like something that You would believe!
"Now we can’t weasel out of this by saying that the New Testament has replaced the Old Testament, because Christ said that he’s come to fulfill the old law
That's literally the message of every single Pauline epistitle, so why can't we. Literally the whole point of Christianity. That's why 2.5 billion people don't identify as Jews.
So then You (Oh Queen of Internet Cesspools) are OK with killing ALL of the human sinners, as I have outlined? Per God's written commands?
I'm sorry I suggested these ideas to You, Oh Queen! But You know what? For morons now:
You can justify ANYTHING you want to, out of the Bible, or any other “Holy” book, for that matter. The evil will do evil, and find verses to justify themselves, and the good will do good, and ditto. Ethics and morality comes from our own intuition and good will, and we can put the “Holy Books” to the side, and work from our own understanding and experiences, instead, and be better off. Whenever I see a Biblical literalist coming my way, I hide the women and the whiskey, because they are usually up to no good! As Shakespeare’s character said in one play or another, “The Devil, too, knows how to quote Scripture”. Too many (not all) literalists think that they can kiss God’s ass by being more literalistic than the next guy, and that is just one big fat evil fib… The RIGHT way to kiss God’s ass, is to treat other people the way we want to be treated. And I need NO “Holy Book” to do that!
PS, You (Oh Queen) are apparently saying that it's OK to act HOWEVER YOU WANT, and get a "free pass" with Your Magic Beliefs, fashionable hairstyle and whorestyle, etc. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!!! Your Magic Beliefs DO NOT protect You from the consequences of Your evil choices!!! If You drink a gallon of whiskey ever day, is God going to forgive You because You have Magic Beliefs? AND give You Your healthy liver back? Have You SHOWN this to be true? Or do You know ANYONE who has demonstrated this?
If You spit in the face of ALL of Your friends, will You have any friends left? You're not married, are You? Is this perhaps the pay-back that You have earned by being a Perfectly Superior One, in the face of EVERYONE that You meet? Can you NOT see my basic point, that Your Magic Beliefs are ZERO protection from "karma", or, "what comes around, goes around"?
You can justify ANYTHING you want to, out of the Bible or any other “Holy” book, for that matter.
No you can't. The Torah, the New Testament and the Koran are generally pretty explicit. Have you ever actually read them?
You're pushing an excuse used by weasels who want to justify or excuse their own ideas or beliefs, and use 'holy' writ as a cover.
“The Devil, too, knows how to quote Scripture”
Better than you anyway. You're comically unfamiliar with it.
"By their fruits, you will know them", is something that Jesus said. DEEDS, not "Magic Beliefs"!
So Great Theologian... How about Your DEEDS? Like identity theft? Was it YOU who stole "Buttplug the First"'s ID, to post child porn under his ID? How can we know either way, for SURE (how can we believe any denials that You might make), when you steal IDs, and implicitly in doing so, deliberately LIE, for malicious purposes? Stealing another person's ID is something that I would NEVER do!
So tell me again about Your Superior Theology?
https://www.patheos.com/blogs/crossexamined/2018/10/top-20-most-damning-bible-contradictions/
Top 20 Most Damning Bible Contradictions
If You were HONEST, Oh Queen, You'd be able to see that "The Holy Scriptures" (of any and all kinds) contradict themselves! They are like "Wise Old Saying" (or, they ARE exactly that). "Look before you leap!" "He who hesitates, is lost!" ... Pick the right one, at the right time. It requires WISDOM! And if You were HONEST, You would see that You have VERY little of either of these Most Precious Commodities! Wisdom and honesty! Stock up some!
Natasha sez to tell Squirrell to ask Rasputin why radiodating of Turin Shroud shows fake Jesus still alive in 1300.
Good question!
All I know is...
Rasputin went a tootin'
And he did ride,
With a fart blossom by his side,
Uh-hunh, uh-hunh...
(Even Rasputin's Holy Magic Farts were NOT enough to save the Czar and his family, sad to say).
Or post your stuff at TRUTH Social. Problem being solved with free market mechanisms.
Mike - "If you don't like it build you're own internet"
Also Mike - "They need to curtail miSiNforMati0n on the internet"
Like how Gab had to build their own servers, payment processors, etc. You find nothing wrong with that.
But then they be paying to put up cranky misinformation nobody will view instead of posting cranky misinformation nobody will view free of charge.
You're going to be beaten to death
Are you speaking of yourself, see-lyin?
I can't tell if this is serious or a parody. In either case, it made me laugh.
It's the perfect reaction because it mirrors Reason's completely out of touch and antiquated view of how the world works.
"I don't use free email, I PAY for my telegrams and I can say anything I want in them!"
They appear to be trying to differentiate their strain of libertarianism from Republicans. Take one example--spending. The Republicans have unanimously voted against Biden and the progressives' $5.4 trillion in spending on two bills ($1.9 trillion on the America Rescue Plan Act and $3.5 trillion on Build Back Better).
If you want people to back Libertarians or libertarians--rather than Republicans--it's hard to differentiate yourself from the Republicans on those two fundamental issues.
Here's another issue: The reason the we're out of Afghanistan is because Donald Trump negotiated and signed a deal with the Taliban to withdraw our troops back in February of 2020. Donald Trump actually campaigned on ending "forever wars".
If you want people to support libertarians or Libertarians--rather than Republicans--how do you differentiate yourself from the Republicans on that issue when the leading Republican is ultimately responsible for getting us out of Afghanistan?
I'm trying to explain why what you're seeing is happening rather than disputing your observations, and I think this bunch does have a real problem differentiating themselves. As the Democrats became more authoritarian and socialist, the Republicans have become more libertarian and capitalist--just to defy the progressives for practical reasons rather than because they're ideologically libertarian.
If backing the Republicans becomes the libertarian choice in 2022, we shouldn't expect Reason staff to stop trying to differentiate their libertarian brand, especially when the Republican brand is so much bigger and stronger. Libertarians are like an authentic Mexican restaurant trying to survive a marketing campaign by Taco Bell. Taco Bell is flooding the media with advertising for Mexican food, and it's like the libertarians at Reason are trying to sell the real thing with a banner on the front of the store. We're authentic!
I think it's also true that some of the staff are too close to the media narrative and share the national media's biases, but the people behind the scenes are probably having a hard time differentiating their product from what the Republicans are selling against the openly authoritarian and socialist progressives running the Democratic party right now.
This is what I''ve been saying for some time too. It's a systemic problem: that whenever you organize for any purpose, the people whose jobs or prestige depend on the organization have a strong motivation to re-orient its purpose from serving its customers' ends to serving its "own people's" ends. That's a major part of the reason why I quit the Libertarian Party 20 years ago.
The worst threat to an organization is for its purpose to be achieved. The most famous example is the March of Dimes, which theoretically should've gone out of business once paralytic polio was obliterated. Instead they found another purpose, and they quickly got onto a bad track, lending support to the now-discredited theory that birth defects were largely due to bad delivery practices. That's aside from inflation's making the March of Dimes name obsolete!
But the worst thing is for your organization's purpose to be achieved by someone who wasn't part of your organization, or even someone who's a latecomer to the organization and hence not beholden to its leadership, and has an independent following. Then your organization can't even rightly take credit for success and go out of business on a high note, its leadership earning laurels as they individually go on to other things. I saw this effect in the Howard Stern and Jesse Ventura for governor campaigns.
Differentiating Reason's product from that of the GOP wasn't so important as long as the Republican Party wasn't both so attractive to libertarians and successful, as they've become with Trump.
Even worse can be a leadership that wants to take an organization to extreme levels (or even contradict the founding goals for new visions), and trades on the old reputation as long as they can get away with it. ACLU anyone?
"This is what I''ve been saying for some time too."
I got the notion from you.
H/T to Roberta!
The Republican Party is successful? Trump has left it split, and with lost control of Congress and the Presidency.
Split? Oh you mean grifters like Rubin and the Lincoln project that represent less than 5%?
A welcome split. Who wants Bill Kristol and his ilk around?
Jeff and Mike.
I guess pedos stick together.
And don't think movement processes, whether like this or with different mechanisms, can't go so far as to turn positions around 180°, because I've seen that happen recently and quickly. The "gender" movement is so vexing to me because it seems all that progress erasing sex stereotypes and breaking down barriers is being reversed by erstwhile supporters of women's and men's lib who now embrace those stereotypes and say that if you act or think in a certain way, it's a sign that you're "really" of the opposite sex of what the previously established facts say you are. They're now saying, guess we were wrong, you really can't act or think in a way that doesn't conform to your...uh..."gender". Even their getting people to say "gender" — an arbitrary categorization — to mean "sex" — objective, immutable characteristic — frustrates me no end. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.
Compared to that, deciding that a state-level mandate to government school districts not to have mask requirements is anti-libertarian because it's an order from a higher level of government is a relatively trivial reversal that can easily be produced by the conflict of interest in movement organizations.
Wrong because the states aren't telling the individuals that they can't mask, they are in fact saying the individual can do what they want. That is the most libertarian position to take.
The Republicans have unanimously voted against Biden and the progressives' $5.4 trillion in spending on two bills ($1.9 trillion on the America Rescue Plan Act and $3.5 trillion on Build Back Better).
Right after they voted en masse in favor of Trump's gigantic spending bills.
Republicans didn't oppose Biden's spending because they were libertarians. They opposed Biden's spending because Biden is a Democrat.
Here's another issue: The reason the we're out of Afghanistan is because Donald Trump negotiated and signed a deal with the Taliban to withdraw our troops back in February of 2020. Donald Trump actually campaigned on ending "forever wars".
But Trump didn't do it. He may have intended to withdraw from Afghanistan. The person who actually DID withdraw us from Afghanistan was Biden. Biden could have ripped up Trump's deal, but he didn't. Trump was a coward on this issue. He had four years to do it but he didn't. He wanted to pretend he was in favor of withdrawing from Afghanistan but not suffer any of the political consequences of doing so. That is why he proposed doing it AFTER the election.
So in both of your examples, Republicans are not the libertarian heroes you make them out to be.
As the Democrats became more authoritarian and socialist, the Republicans have become more libertarian and capitalist
But they have NOT become more "libertarian and capitalist". They have become more authoritarian and populist. They favor trade wars, banning CRT, banning abortion, banning property owners from using their property to require masks or vaccines, building bullshit walls to stop "foreign invaders" who are actually penniless Guatemalans who have been scapegoated to serve in the role of a most dangerous threat to the country. They are not ideological libertarians. They are not even "pragmatic" libertarians. They are straight-up authoritarians who have embraced the power of the state to force people to serve their will.
It is easy to distinguish Libertarians from Republicans. Libertarians use facts and reason and logic to analyze issues. Republicans use feelings of victimhood, tribal loyalty, and "pwning the libs" to determine a course of action. Libertarians want to preserve liberty. Republicans want to preserve order and tradition. If you think the country was better off in the nostalgic 1950's and 1960's that never really existed anyway, and you like to commiserate with other right-wingers about how supposedly oppressed you are, then you're a Republican. If not, then maybe you're a Libertarian.
Not a lefty guys.
Trump didn't advocate for the majority of his spending. He was given veto proof bills dummy.
And that doesn't take away from Ken's point that now they are against increased spending. They are against mandates. They are against federal takeovers of elections. They are mostly against the GND. Things you ignore or rationalize away to solely protect the left.
Yesterday you even claimed those against those listed topics are merely contrarians even if they are generally of the left on other policies.
Youre a state loving leftist dummy.
Fuck, you're a one man propaganda machine this morning.
"Trump's gigantic spending bills"
Are you talking about the house bill he signed because the state governors had just imposed martial law everywhere and people were hurting, the one that was unvetoable anyway? Or are you talking about the ones he refused to sign until they were reduced?
Maybe you can explain to us why it's okay for Joe to push for far, far more nearly two years later?
Maybe you can also explain to us Pelosi's role in "Trump's spending"?
"But Trump didn't do it"
Try harder, fifty-center. The Democratic Party's interference with Trump's troop withdrawals was something we were all talking about in 2020. He didn't because your team wouldn't let him, Jeff.
House Democrats, Working With Liz Cheney, Restrict Trump’s Planned Withdrawal of Troops From Afghanistan and Germany
You must think we have the memory span of goldfish.
"banning CRT"
Banning government operated schools from teaching reworked Nazi race theory to children on the taxpayers dime? You bet.
And don't go pretending to us that CRT is talking about racial injustice and history, because we both know that's a lie.
"banning abortion"
Tell me Jeff, when does a human become a human? Does the Birth Canal Fairy magically change a cLumP oF cELLs into one as you slide out? There's nothing libertarian about murdering your kid.
And if you're going to whine about bodily autonomy, then explain how you're not being hypocritical about your next point.
"banning property owners from using their property to require masks or vaccines"
Haven't you been sqwaking "Muh body, muh choice" since forever and now suddenly "That's different because reasons".
The fact is that this was a law aimed at making the Biden Administrations constitutionally illegal vaccine mandate for private business, illegal. And you know it. Who do you think you're tricking with your lies?
"who are actually penniless Guatemalans"
And Mexican narcoterrorists but so what, right? As long as the gentry class get a horde of cheap slaves to play poolboy, gardener and nanny while trapped by their illegal status.
So compassionate, so brave.
He implied an infant breathing in public says mask was a violation of the NAP but apparently taking drugs or severing a spine is not.
Thank you for confirming that a vote for Team Red is not a vote for liberty, it is a vote for authoritarian populism. And, a vote for more excuse-making. Because, remember folks, IT'S ALWAYS TEAM BLUE'S FAULT. Trump was completely powerless in 4 years to do anything at all about spending or about Afghanistan. He couldn't do a damn thing. Because Democrats have all the power even when Republicans are elected. That's the Team Red narrative from the Party of Personal Responsibility: IT'S NEVER MY FAULT!!!!
There's nothing about liberty in the fascist authoritarian arguments you put forward, Jeff. Calling a greasy turd like CRT a plum, doesn't actually make it one.
And yes, Team Blue is easily the most evil psychosis in the West since the Nazis. Team Red may be composed of idiot bumpkins and greedy children, but you guys are a moral abyss. A genuine threat to Western civilization.
I like how you overstate the authoritarianism of Team Blue ("they're Nazis!!!") while understating the authoritarianism of Team Red ("gawsh, they're just misunderstood country bumpkins!")
Lol. God damn youve become a sniveling joke.
How am I overstating the authoritarian malevolence of Team Blue? Because you psychopaths have been acting like demons lately.
And give me an actual example of Team Red authoritarianism in the last five years, because I'm coming up empty.
"the most evil psychosis in the West since the Nazis"? Really? If you think Biden is equivalent to Stalin, or Mao, you are nuts.
And give me an actual example of Team Red authoritarianism in the last five years, because I'm coming up empty.
Pick one:
1. Trade wars and tariffs
2. Border walls and immigration insanity
3. Banning vaccine requirements for private businesses
4. Not just banning CRT, but banning certain books, even going so far as advocating for burning them
That's just off the top of my head.
These are your grand examples of Republican authoritarianism? Really?
Stop fucking emoting you compliant troglodyte and open your eyes.
So, moving the goalposts in order to deflect for Team Red then?
1. Trade wars and tariffs
How the hell is that authoritarian, Clownshow. Name a country on the planet that doesn't have tarriffs.
2. Border walls and immigration insanity
Every other country on Earth enforces it's borders. There's absolutely nothing authoritarian about that.
You want to know where the real authoritarianism lies? Rather than make the immigration process better, letting people sneak in and then keeping them as virtual slaves bound by under the table low wages and threats of expulsion.
3. Banning vaccine requirements for private businesses
"Muh body muh choice", huh. We both know that was in response to Team Blue's fascist vaccine mandates. Literally the opposite of authoritarianism. I don't know who you think you're tricking.
4. Not just banning CRT, but banning certain books
Banning Nazi race theory from government schools is the opposite of authoritarianism. Taxpayers dollars shouldn't be used to push evil, reworked KKK ideology.
even going so far as advocating for burning them
As opposed to actually burning them like you guys do?
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/book-burning-at-ontario-francophone-schools-as-gesture-of-reconciliation-denounced/ar-AAOcyYP
You're such an evil moron, Chemjeff. I hope you didn't get fifty-cents for this.
1. So every country ever is authoritarian?
2.so every country ever is authoritarian?
3. Individual liberty is authoritarian?
4. What books were banned? And limited books in libraries isnt banning. Unlike the left who actively seeks to have publishers stop printing.
Jeff. Youre a fucking idiot.
Oh, here's another one for you to consider.
https://archive.fo/nrnEN
???
What the hell is authoritarian there, Clowntits.
Explain yourself.
Wow. What a bunch of emotional nonsense from you.
I notice how you have zero rebuttal against anything Jesse and ML said. Just vague hyperbole.
You’re just a little bitch.
Jeff: attempting to constrain and limit fascist efforts is fascism!
Limiting left-wing authoritarianism with right-wing authoritarianism still leads to authoritarianism.
A vote for Team Blue is a vote for progressive authoritarianism.
A vote for Team Red is a vote for populist authoritarianism.
Neither one is a vote for liberty.
Stop lying about your history and preferences jeff. All you do is defend totalitarian bullshit and indoctrination efforts of more.
So you have zero rebuttal? Just more vague claims without substance?
Typical Jeffy.
But only when done by Republicans, when Democrats do it there is no problem.
banning property owners from using their property to require masks or vaccines,
Meanwhile, Democrats were busy banning property owners from not requiring masks and vaccines.
Meanwhile, Democrats were busy banning property owners from not requiring masks and vaccines.
Oh wait, it's like BOTH TEAMS are just different flavors of authoritarianism. Please inform Ken, who seems to think that Team Red is becoming more libertarian.
Name one policy the left is more libertarian. And please say drugs again so I can point you to operation chokepoint and the war on drugs.
As far as I know, no business or school prohibited individuals from wearing masks if they chose to. Some places, on their own or in following imposed regulations, mandated masks. Where allowed (and sometimes where not), some places left masking up to individuals.
When some people, to fulfill personal preference, demand universal mask mandates, that violates basic liberty. You might wish to go to Safeway with a legal guarantee that everyone there will wear a mask, but that is not your right--and achieving your preferred societal behavior violates the rights of others.
You're right, it was vaccines that I was thinking of, not masks.
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/greg-abbott-texas-vaccine-mandate-business-ban-1240662/
It is the same principle though.
I know. Letting individuals choose their medical decisions is so authoritarian you leftist shit.
It explains his hate for the constitution.
Lefty Jeffy calls out Republicans for not voting for more spending. This dude is a weirdo.
Ken wrote:
"As the Democrats became more authoritarian and socialist, the Republicans have become more libertarian and capitalist--just to defy the progressives for practical reasons rather than because they're ideologically libertarian."
I totally agree. Most Americans don't truly understand or appreciate the freedoms we have unless/until those freedoms are actually taken away.
The Democrat's sharp shift in recent years to left wing totalitarian fascism, their doubling/tripling down on falsely accusing the GOP of white supremacy, and their unscientific covid lockdowns, mask mandates, vaccine mandates and censorship of the truth is going to result in a huge GOP win in November.
Don't Tread On Me.
But how else can we achieve social equity anti-racist justice without "enlightened" dictatorship?
Not just the GOP, but everyone who doesn’t fall in lockstep with the democrat agenda.
Don’t want to destroy the entire economy because of supposed climate change? You fucking White supremacist.
You’re a black guy who votes for anyone other than a democrat? You too are a White supremacist.
Disagree with money being spent superfluously? You’re Bull Fucking Connor.
If you disagree with any portion of their narrative in any way, you’re a through and through White supremacist who wants to kill anyone but straight white men, while subjugating White women to servitude.
I’ve not voted for anyone in a major party since Rand Paul in his first congressional election. And the Democrats have assured over the last 5 years that I will never vote for a democrat. Not ever. And to add to that, they’ve assured that if a race is even a little close that I’ll pull the lever for whoever the Republican is.
Fuck the democrat party.
Every leftist accusation is confession
Well said.
“the Republicans have become more libertarian”
Right, sure. The party where the most influential person has been spreading a big lie about election fraud for the last two years. The party where a group of his supporters tried to stop the peaceful transition of presidential administrations when he lost. The party where most elected members are sycophantically supporting him or too afraid to speak out against him.
Tax breaks. Reduced regulations. Federalism for states on covid.
What the fuck are you talking about?
He’s just recounting what he saw on msnbc.
CNN, Mike crushes hard on Don Lemon.
Mike just wishes lemon would molest him.
'Reason commentators have spent the last 2 years applauding government overreach and authoritarianism over Covid, CRT etc.' Some of the 'editors,' and the left-leaning commentariat, yes, but the core, cranky right of center and generally libertarian commentariat have not supported gov't overreach or authoritarianism -it's pretty obvious when you read through the comments.
Facebook doesn't bother me because I don't use it. I don't care what other people use. I think they use Facebook because they're tyrants and they're the problem rather than the guys who facilitate their right to communicate with their fellow tyrants.
I use Facebook to keep in touch with my mother, grandmother, aunts, cousins, sisters and nieces. I also use it in genealogy research, and to see events in my local community.
It wouldn't have billions of users if every interaction was negative and it had no value.
And therein lies the problem with it's data harvesting and emotional and political manipulation.
i left fakebook a few years back when i saw all the censorship -- just couldn't take it. i had contacts with many friends & family there but enough is enough. i had to stand on my principles and have some integrity. people can contact me other ways. we can't support these tyrannical organizations like fakebook & twitter.
Exactly. Can't support the Ministry of Truth.
Don't worry, TRUTH SOCIAL will be there for you.
Except that twitter/Facebook take their orders from the state.
“Reason commentators have spent the last 2 years applauding government overreach and authoritarianism over Covid, CRT etc.”
No, they haven’t.
Yes you have.
You totally have.
Would you like a cite of you doing it?

Sea lion won’t acknowledge that.
Yeah, they have, and so have you.
So Reason embarrasses Christian National Socialist losers. "That's a shame..." --Precious Pup
Too bad they won't do it for Gaia-worshipping, Blue-state, National Socialists too, Grandpa.
Fuck Joe Biden.
When are midterms again?
Haven't you heard? Midterms have been canceled, the school buildings are closed for the permanent pandemic.
Makes sense. If you're worried election integrity, the safe play is to just cancel them.
Or do, what the Democrats so desperately want to do: nationalize election fraud, and override state attempts to limit it. this is what the filibuster outcry is about right now.
Probably after some revolution.
I suspect most "independents" just don't want to be bothered by either party.
Polls haven't been reliable since people found out you can lie to them and nothing bad happens. In fact, it can be quite funny, as shown by the wailing and gnashing of teeth when Trump won despite the assurance of all pollsters that "she whose turn it was" could not possibly lose.
And I suspect that major parties have goals to make independents so disgusted they actually detach from the political process. The hyper-partisan ideologues can then dominate elections and policy.
Somebody's been reading my mail.
One of the more frustrating aspects of progressivisim is their refusal to acknowledge the likely negative consequences of their preferred policies--until after the negative consequences have actually started to happen. Even then, they seem to believe that reality will somehow rearrange itself to avoid the negative consequences of their favorite policies.
For example, everyone but progressives knew that ObamaCare would result in higher insurance premiums for the middle class, but progressives refused to acknowledge that negative result even after it happened--right up until Donald Trump was elected, in part, to make the pain of ObamaCare go away.
Everyone but progressives knows that increasing the money supply faster than the rate of real economic growth will ignite inflation--like we know that jumping off a cliff is likely to result in bodily injury--but even after seeing themselves splattered all over the ground at the bottom of the inflationary cliff, progressives remain reluctant to admit that inflation is a result of increasing the money supply faster than the rate of real economic growth.
You'll even see them argue that price increases are caused by supply constraints--as if increasing the money supply faster than the real rate of economic growth won't ignite inflation if the reason the real economy isn't growing is because of supply constraints Amid the highest inflation since 1991, the Biden administration pushed spending trillions more on Build Back Better as the solution to inflation!
I'm right there with Matt Welch pointing out that you don't need to be a psychic to see which way the wind is blowing. Yes, the president's first midterm is almost always a referendum on the new president, and, historically, the median loss of seats for the new president's party in the House is in the mid-twenties. However, 23 House Democrats (mostly in red and purple districts) have already decided not to seek reelection in 2022, presumably because they expect to lose. The losses the Democrats suffer in November will be in addition to that. Pelosi has already promised not to seek the Speaker's chair after 2022, also presumably because she doesn't expect the Democrats to keep control of the House anyway.
Moderate Democrats see the writing on the wall, and they know what it means. Progressives remain oblivious to the negative consequences of their choices. Progressives need to lose elections to understand the negative consequences of their choices, just like they can't comprehend the negative consequences of ObamaCare and inflationary spending until they've been hit over the head with them.
If anything is emblematic of the progressive/vs. moderate Democrat split, surely it's how they voted on the question of whether to keep the filibuster--the very linchpin of moderation. 48 out of 50 Democrats senators voted to kill the filibuster so they could overrule state election laws. There are only two legitimately moderate Democrats in the Senate, who already understand the likely consequences of progressive extremism. The rest of them still think progressive extremism is the solution to their problems.
At the very least, progressives remain oblivious to the negative consequences of their choices until they're hit over the head with them, and that's why it's so important for independents generally and libertarians specifically to vote for Republicans in 2022. It is not enough for the only two moderates in the Senate to save us from the worst progressive policies. The progressives will not learn from the negative consequences of their extremism until they're made to pay at the ballot box.
And it doesn't matter how blue your state is this time--per recent statewide elections in Virginia and New Jersey. After 2022, all bets on the Republican party are off, but the progressives in the Democratic party have been as authoritarian and socialist as any government since FDR, and the most libertarian and capitalist thing we can do is make them pay with their seats in 2022.
Progressives are not oblivious, Ken. They do not care. Their agenda is the acquisition of power over others, using whatever means they can get away with. There is little to compromise with a progressive, because of their dogmatic and high-handed approach to everything.
Defeating them in elections is a good start, that is for sure. But their ideology must be engaged with and contested intellectually, to show for the shallowness and illogic it represents.
"Progressives are not oblivious, Ken. They do not care."
The Democrat will care when they're no longer in power. If they care about power, they care about the negative results by losing power. But we need to make sure they lose that power. They won't learn from anything else.
Disagree. They will switch back to winning and ignoring state and federal desecration by increasing escalation at the local and through the judicial just like they did under Trump. They will actively try to fight roll backs in power in the executive apparatus justice the resistance. They never stop.
Democrats won't stop being on the left, but they will stop pushing progressives extremism as if it were centrist. The reason they're losing is because that's a losing strategy. This is one of the reasons I keep harping on the point that libertarianism isn't about seizing the reigns of power through elections and inflicting it on an unwilling population from above. Ultimately, lasting change only happens when the voters want it and support it. If we inflicted libertarian policies on voters that didn't want it, they'd simply vote us back out of power again. And that's what's happening to the progressives in 2022. The Democrats have all the power they need to change anything they want (up to and including packing the Supreme Court). They just don't have the support of the American people or the voters--especially in Arizona and West Virginia. Lasting change only comes with persuading the American people to change their minds as a precondition.
And progressives are at a disadvantage because while they're delusional enough to imagine that average Americans support their extremist agenda, they're also contemptuous of the opinions of average Americans. In the progressive mind, average Americans are sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, racist, and they're selfish because they won't sacrifice their standard of living for the benefit of the climate and the underprivileged. There is no way that extremist message can predominate among average Americans--and as the Democrats (rather than progressives) continue to lose elections because of progressive extremism, they will, eventually, learn to tailor a message that isn't contemptuous of average Americans in order to win their support--or they'll keep losing.
Like viruses that are frustrated by vaccines and antiviral medications, the Democrats will adapt over time in response to losing election, but it's important for us to make sure they lose.
What makes you think they will stop pushing extremism? They've doubled and tripled down the last year. They will simply retreat to other disguised methods like climate change, sue and settle with friendly administration actors, etc.
They will use media to hide it but they won't stop it.
"What makes you think they will stop pushing extremism?"
Because it's a losing strategy that will make them lose. Because they can't win so long as they're force feeding extremism to average Americans--who are meant to be the victims of their extremist agenda. Because the Democrats can win with a moderate agenda like Joe Manchin's.
This has all happened before, and it will all happen again.
"Reagan Democrats no longer saw the Democratic party as champions of their working class aspirations, but instead saw them as working primarily for the benefit of others: the very poor, feminists, the unemployed, African Americans, Latinos and other groups."
----Reagan Democrats
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reagan_Democrat
The Democrats win when the blue collar middle class sees them as the champions of their aspirations. You could have written the same thing about why Trump won in 2016. You could have written the same thing about why the Republicans will trounce the Democrats in the midterms of 2022.
Traditional moderate Democrats, like Manchin, were pushed aside by the progressives over the course of the Obama administration. Nowadays, according to the progressives that run the Democratic party, the blue collar middle class is the cause of all of our problems--from sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, and racism to the refusal to get vaccinated and the refusal to sacrifice their standard of living for climate change and the underprivileged. That will cause the Democrats to lose, nationally, and they will not win until they persuade the blue collar middle class that the Democrats are their champions again.
They are already deeply embedded in many non voting positions of the executives. They won't stop.
Ken has unwavering faith in the system, despite all the time's such faith has proven unjustified.
If Ken believes hard enough, the world will totes work how it's "supposed" to
I grow more certain every day that the hardcore progs are going to force a civil war. If they do, it will provide an opportunity to purge America of the committed marxists.
XY, I think it's a bit of both. There is a goodly portion of the progressive population, maybe all, who do not care. This overlaps with the portion that is not capable of comprehending -as I tend to point out, progressives are incapable of envisioning 2nd and third tier consequences for any of their policy proposals or actions. They are purely emotive and generally not great thinkers or planners. Witness the typical failure of any given Congressional spending plan. Money distributed with no oversight, with the expectation that it will be used for the stated purpose. This from the party, and in-group that insists that all out-group members are evil, men are evil, white people are evil, straight people are evil, Christians are evil... The cognitive dissonance required is astounding.
Here's an example of them not being able to comprehend the consequences of their extremism--in the primary race for a Democrat to run for Senator in Wisconsin.
"In a state decided by less than 1 percentage point in the 2020 presidential election—the third-narrowest outcome nationally—six Democrats who have raised the most money so far are all taking positions to the left of President Biden’s."
----WSJ
https://www.wsj.com/articles/wisconsins-field-of-democratic-senate-hopefuls-is-lining-up-on-left-of-biden-11642942804?
Biden barely won in Wisconsin back when everybody still thought he was a moderate--and they're running to the left of Biden?
What makes you win the primary is not what makes you win in the general election. How will they pivot back to challenging a moderate Republican as a centrist after winning a contest in the primary to see who can go the furthest to the left? The Democrats will learn after they lose power--by losing power because of the progressives--but they'll need to lose power first.
This has all happened before. The Democratic party drifted so far to the left under Carter and afterwards, that they couldn't win a national election again until Clinton came along and executed someone who was mentally incapacitated, just to prove that he was tough on crime. They'll need to lose before they'll understand that they won't win by being left wing extremists--with or without the news media behind them.
If there was only a way to proscribe limits on government authority.
The Arizona Democrat Party has become so unhinged they formally censured Sen. Kyrsten Sinema yesterday, with Socialist Bernie Sanders cheering them on.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/23/politics/bernie-sander-kyrsten-sinema-cnntv/index.html
None of the left wing Dems' criticism will harm Sinema because she isn't up for reelection until 2024, but rather it will likely to come back to haunt/oust left wing Democrat Mark Kelly from the US Senate in November.
I think that will help her rather than hurt her (with swing voters) when it's all said and done.
Being condemned by the extremists that run the local party may prove to be a feather in her cap, and she'll be the best chance for the Democrats to hold her seat in 2024.
According to Real Clear Politics, Trump now has a higher favorability ranking than Biden.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/other/FavorabilityRatingsPoliticalLeaders.html
The entertainment is just beginning!
If it hadn't been for January 6, Trump's approval rating would be through the roof right now. The American people would be screaming for Trump to come back already. He'd be set for 2024.
If it hadn’t been for the MSM narrative of Jan 6…
I don't think so. He's long since recovered from the dip a year ago. According to https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/trump_favorableunfavorable-5493.html
his ratings are about where he was when he took office, and the ups and downs in the interim were all ephemeral. People have a fairly fixed opinion of him that he doesn't seem able to affect for long. If it hadn't been for Jan. 6 of 2021, you think he'd've just built on where his ratings were before that? Nah, it's not like any of this approval/disapproval is "in the bank" with a movable baseline.
He is, however, set for 2024, because Biden by then will be the obviously worse choice and the Democrats won't be able to pump up anyone else to electability in that time. Bernie's their best choice and he has no chance of winning.
If it wasn't for January 6, I suspect Trump's approval ratings would be higher now than they were when he was in office.
Biden is making Trump look like moderate and competent by comparison. January 6 is the only thing making Trump look like an extremist.
Other than the relentless lies by the Democrats and the media, what exactly was so horrible about the actual events of Jan 6? Especially in contrast to the summer of 2020.
Because I don't share other people's beliefs, doesn't mean I don't recognize what they are. A fat slice of the American public has bought into that narrative regardless of whether they should, and I think it's hurt Trump's approval ratings.
You underestimate widespread "Trump fatigue", just being dead tired of Trump doing some crazy shit every single f'ing day to suck up attention.
No, we're tired of miserable leftists smearing shit on everything. Our tolerance has been superhuman, but it has limits.
You have crossed the fucking line with government abuses, manufactured race rioting, destroying people's businesses, and continuing to psychologically torture innocent children.
You drove yourself to insanity, Trump was just your excuse.
Trump was a locus, not a source.
Progressives have been batshit crazy since well before BadOrangeMan broke Liarson.
Polls don't matter, except when they do.
The polls are still biased jeff. And that is why it is so terrible for your side. Compare an election to polling against that election dumbass.
This is petulant, and a non-reply, even for you, Jeff. Biden has been polling low, in multiple polls, even those which are clearly slanted in his favor, for quite some time. Perhaps it's the failure to keep campaign promises, or the economy, or not beating covid, or claiming trump had no plan and he, biden did, or the non-stop lying, or the belligerent threats against the US public, or the mental feebleness. The public who are not cultishly adoring can see that there is something not right with the man, just as there has been his entire career.
Poll: A majority of Republicans would be in favor of a military coup.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/06/us-coup-republican-support/
I am sure you will take this poll just as seriously as you take the ones that show Biden failing. Because, you know, polls are very serious stuff.
A pill at the height if emotional responses from a highly questionable election vs dozens taken over a year. Hmmm.
Now find polls from 2017.
Isn't active resistance to undermine elected officials essentially the same. Did he not remember the resistance that he glowing approved of.
Read the article yourself. There was no spike in Democrats favoring coups after Trump was elected. In this case the two teams are not the same. Team Red is a lot more comfortable with military rule than they ought to be.
All the way back in 2015, 43% of Republicans supported the idea of a military coup. It is disturbing and wrong.
They just openly committed defiance from non elected positions. You know, acted on it shit weasel.
I suppose if you do not count the federal security agencies as military, then the partisan efforts in 2017, and hyper-eager support from Democratic pundits and people, was something else. Maybe a folk festival?
I don't consider an FBI investigation, no matter how wayward it may have drifted, to be equivalent to a military coup, no. Do you?
Actively undermining a president based on bullshit isnt an attempted coup? Comey flat admitting he worked on getting a special prosecutor in place to hamper the elected president is a big ole nothing burger?
Fuck you leftist.
You may not understand any of this, but we do.
It's clear you don't understand much.
How much is down to willful ignorance and what is natural stupidity is uncertain, but the end result is a progshit.
It's the economy, stupid or is it the stupid?
When you compare this to the G7," Rep. Porter says about America's 5.5% GDP growth, "none of them are even yet having positive GDP growth." https://on.msnbc.com/33SgYuQ
According to wingnut.com GDP and UE are no longer useful measures of economic health.
Americans are rightly concerned about the rising prices of spittin' tobacco and fryin' grease. And now that gas prices have returned to their pre-pandemic levels they are pissed off about that too. The librul media is in a 24/7 news blitz to reframe economic health away from growth and jobs.
I heard you spent 2009 to 2016 downplaying GDP growth and focusing instead on the Warren Buffett Net Worth Index to prove Obama's economy was stronger than any previous President's.
Is that true?
#IMissObama
Wait....fryin' grease too, Mr. Buttplug? HAPERINFLATION hit chewin' tobaccy and fryin' grease at the same time?! What is a good red-necked rebel shitkicker to do? 😛

Gas is back down to where it was a year ago? Funny, every gas station within hundreds of miles of me says something different. There was a seasonal drop in price that correlates with winter changes in refinery overhead and overall demand. Now prices are trending back upwards jus like they do every year in late January.
Gas prices will spike as we move into spring. Unfortunately, while Buttplug may understand how to access child pornography, and the finer points of drugging and restraining children so he can rape them, he knows nothing of energy markets, or the economy in general.
We've talked before about you missing some real basic knowledge, and this appears to be another example of that.
The standard measure of GDP is the number of final goods multiplied by their price.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/g/gdp.asp
If inflation (the price of things) goes up, what does that do for GDP?
Oh, and all that's before we consider that you're comparing GDP growth now to a period that started a year ago--after the worst of the pandemic and coming out of the lockdowns of 2020.
Knowledgeable people might post your link as an excellent example of how profoundly ignorant and stupid the people at MSNBC can be. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Hey dumbass, if you had read the link you would see that there is a prominent inflation adjustment. The stated disposable income figure is $354/month AFTER inflation.
(Ken has me on ignore so he will never know)
That is an INCREASE in disposable income of $354/month after inflation.
I would like to see the math on that.
A chickenhawk in every pot.
Child molesters are united in their support of the left and hatred of all opposition.

Again, we see collectivistjeff trying to deflect from and mock opposition to child abuse.

They are simply lying to protect the left while denying it.

What we might look at is Real GDP, which takes inflation into account.
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/GDPC1
The Fed has the Real GDP index at 19202.310 in Q4 of 2019 (Before the pandemic).
The Fed has the Real GDP index at 19478.893 in Q3 of 2021 (Latest figures available).
(19478.893 minus 19202.310)/(19478.893) = 1.4%
When you add all of Q4 2019 through the end of Q3 2021, that's eight quarters by my count. Over the two years since before the pandemic started, Biden's monumental achievements have us averaging 0.07% (seven tenths of one percent) in terms of Real GDP growth--when we're accounting for inflation. That's not much better than where we were before the pandemic started. Any why would we use any other measure?
And if we're just barely better off than we were before the pandemic started, what kind of achievement is that? And what polices of Biden's, specifically, do you imagine led to that growth in Real GDP? I see a lot of inflationary policies. Not much that would account for the growth of real GDP. I suspect the economy grew in the anemic way it did despite Biden's policies rather than because of them. Does the term "dead cat bounce" mean anything to you?
Why wouldn't we take inflation into account?
Because that might make Biden and the progressives look bad, and if it makes Biden and the progressives look bad, then it can't be true?
Ken, I didn’t vote for Biden and I don’t support him. Now watch me try to shift blame to Trump as well as spin the bad situation that Biden and the Democrats largely created by attempting to suggest things are going well.
1) It isn’t happening.
2) It is happening but it is not what you think.
2a) It is happening but it isn’t Biden’s fault.
3) This is the new norm so just accept it.
3a) This is the new norm and it is actually great.
4) HAPERRACIST!
And the only people who are buying that shit are hyperpartisan blowhards.
Did you mean HAPERPARTISAN blowhards?
Yes, empty shelves, runaway inflation, and stagnating growth are no big deal.
PLEASE, Dems, run on Biden's economic record. I BEG you.
Yeah the #BareShelvesBiden is hilarious. A picture (in this case, many pictures, is worth a thousand words.
Independents need to stand up. For example, the Jan 6 insurrection is being turned into a feature film:
EXCLUSIVE: The January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, considered the worst domestic attack on democracy since the Civil War, will be the subject of J6, a feature film scripted and to be directed by Billy Ray as his follow-up to the highly rated Showtime miniseries The Comey Rule. Joining him is Adam McKay, who is in the Oscar hunt now for Don’t Look Up. McKay will produce along with Todd Schulman, Josh McLaughlin, Cullen Hoback and Shane Salerno, latter of whom was exec producer on the Jeff Daniel-Brendan Gleeson starrer The Comey Rule.

No casting info yet but some suggestions here:
Trump played by Jonah Hill
Ashli Babbitt played by Rosanne Barr
Mike Pence played by Steve Buscemi
Nancy Pelosi played by Shelly Duvall
cast of hundreds
no worries, Peanuts. Hollywood will dramatize it fairly.
Will Hollywood accurately and truthfully portray the KNOWN involvement of the Lizard People and the Amphibian People as puppet-string-pullers in this intergalactic proxy war? Inquiring minds want to KNOW, dammit!
LITTLE KNOW FACTS: This intergalactic proxy war ALSO is about that hot-button issue of intergalactic IMMIGRATION!
What we have seen in very recent history, is that Trumpistas have been adamantly opposed to immigrant Lizard People, who use Mind-Control beams to make voters against Trump. They have, however, welcomed with open arms (and open legs), the Amphibian People, who use Mind-Control beams to make voters FOR Trump.
Now that Biden has replaced Trump, we have a simple inversion… Immigrant intergalactic Lizard people now GOOD! Immigrant intergalactic Amphibian People now BAD!
Before we get a flurry of posts here from xenophobic Trumpistas slamming even the idea of pro-“R”-party Amphibian People immigration… “R” fanatics saying that ALL immigration is UTTERLY EVIL… Let me point out to you, that the Amphibian People ARE indeed “benevolent”, per the “R”-Party yardstick (“R” good, all other parties BAD!).
Let me give you a VERY prominent Amphibian Person with the CORRECT thoughts and attitudes! I give you Pepe the Amphibian Person, stolen-IP-4Chan-Frog! Racist frog, NAZI frog, yaya-yada!

This was worse than Vogon poetry.
Hitchhiker's Guide reference for the win there.
In order to present the HEAVILY ARMED INSURRECTION accurately, this film will need a budget of at least $1 billion. Because the carnage of that terrible day was worse than 9 / 11 and World War 2 combined.
(For comparison Avengers Endgame cost $356 million.)
What do you think about Jack Nicholson playing Trump?
Not fat enough.
Hey, remember those weeks you spent spamming SLOPPY PULLOUT to kill any discussion of Afghanistan? Until one day you read on juancole.com that Drumpf is actually to blame for anything bad that happens under Biden?
Well, you've probably gotten this memo already. But just in case, we're using the same strategy if something bad happens involving Russia.
GOP Blames Biden for Russian Aggression. Don’t Forget About Trump.
"Biden may get blamed for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. But diplomats say Trump’s resistance to helping Ukraine and his unique approach to Russia may be more to blame."
#DefendBidenAtAllCosts
Fat Val Kilmer.
Orson Welles in the original Casino Royale.
Fatty Arbuckle
Chemjeff.
If Alec Baldwin plays Trump, how much shooting on location would there be?
Not enough?
If SNL had a sense of humor, they’d have had Trump play Baldwin.
Tony Siragusa as Trump.
PS — Even with its billion-plus budget, I hope this movie is profitable. Then they can make a sequel about the SECOND INSURRECTION BY RIGHTWING EXTREMISTS you warned us about which took place on 9 / 18 just like your intel sources said it would. The budget for that project will need to be at least $2 billion to capture the sheer scale of the destruction.
#9/18WasWorseThan9/11
I suggest George Clooney as General Milley. That phone call to China's head of state warning him that Trump had gone danknut has Oscar potential.
Why use Clooney when Carrot Top is available, cheaper, and more accurate to the person?
Truly a riveting scene. Because as you pointed out, Orange Hitler was totally going to launch a nuclear war with China — but Milley's skillful maneuvering prevented it.
H/T. It is truly amazing that you catalog comments of mine.
There are some people around here who truly have nothing better to do than to catalog comments of people they don't like. It is a bit sad really.
When you step in to defend SPB2, who has never been correct in one of its assertions, whose every link shows the opposite of what it claims, and who is a smug jackass nonetheless, you really make a fool of yourself.
When you view everything in terms of tribalism, you reveal yourself to be vapid and stupid.
You denying you have a team is hilarious.
That’s not tribal, those are facts.
When I make a comment in response to SPB, that isn't even supporting or defending him or his position, just commenting on what he said, and if you interpret that as "defending SPB", then yes, that is tribalism.
I’m pretty sure you’re supporting him due to his pedophilia. A form of paraphilia you historically support.
Whooooooosh.
Yeah. I do the opposite — I highlight the most amazing insights of my fellow left-libertarians.
For example your ironclad case that convicted serial killers should keep voting while behind bars. That comment is even better than your pro-CRT-in-public-schools work.
#DahmerWasNeverTechnicallyStrippedOfCitizenship
No, you mock arguments that you cannot refute on their merits.
Your arguments have no merit. Why do you expect more from others?
You just did that above earlier. In fact, it’s something you frequently do as your positions are indefensible.
If you didn't lie about past comments you've made and ask for citations they wouldn't be kept.
But you're a pathological liar. So you are granted your wish of being cited.
I own every comment I have ever made.
And yes, SLOPPY PULLOUT! hit the bullseye. And is succinct as well. You can't get much better than that one.
But enough about your Jared from Subway LARPing.
So youre finally owning you posted child porn and post under socks?
That kiddie porn picture was yours?
FBI-KUN ONEGAI SHIMASU!
You don’t like it when people bring up things that you’ve posted?
Go figure.
I find it incredibly sad that some people have nothing better to do than to create a database of quotes from people they don't like. This is a fucking internet comment board. It is not exactly the Congressional Record or the Yale Debate Society. It is a place where people go to blow off steam, discuss ideas, have some fun from a libertarian perspective. Go ahead and keep your stupid database. I am absolutely sure you will be able to find some contradictions of mine over the years because I am a fallible human being with an imperfect memory, not a robot. I question anyone's definition of happiness when it includes pointing out that people aren't perfect.
Bookmarks to call out liars who deny their history and stop them from thread sitting? Worth the effort to expose them. As well as exposing pedophiles like yourself.
Shorter Jeffy: ‘I don’t like it when I’m called on my lies’.
You're a useful idiot for Democrat totalitarians is what you are.
It is truly amazing that the FBI hasn’t cataloged one comment of yours. Would be an easy conviction and a feather in the cap for the investigating agent.
turd lies; it’s all he ever does. Turd is a TDS-addled asshole and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Well, TBH I usually save the most important and insightful ones. Naturally that includes your intel briefing about the SECOND INSURRECTION BY RIGHTWING EXTREMISTS. You literally saved my life by convincing me not to leave home on 9 / 18.
And I like to revisit that Milley story from time to time. It's important to remember that Drumpf was this close to eradicating all life on Earth in a nuclear holocaust. Until one heroic government official averted Judgement Day.
#RealLifeSarahConnor
We were a milleysecond away from total annihilation.
OMG
They have to include that line in the script!
Mike and sarc were crying about this just a few days ago.
First it is "i didn't say that."
Then it is "that was sarcasm."
Now it is "why are you linking to past comments creep."
Amazing.
White Mike is trying to HO2 down her past comments.
Milley could be played Melissa McCarthy, in fact I think Milley really is Melissa McCarthy.

So you like propaganda and claim to be a classical liberal. Lol.
I can tell you this much: us independents won't be voting LP, and we won't vote according to Reason corporatist propaganda.
That's right. Don't vote based on policy. Vote based on which team better validates your feelings.
Good thing for Biden that people ignored his platform.
22 and 24 are going to be a bitch though.
You have raised for 5 years against policy in favor of temperament while supporting policy completely anathema to libertarian values. Lol.
'Vote based on which team better validates your feelings.' Strike the 'team' and you have your argument on nearly any position, Jeff. Though, you do skew more left, versus say, in favor of individual rights.
Sure. I'm the one arguing based on "feelings" when we have right-wingers around here openly admitting that they do things like vote for Trump just so they can piss off The Left. Sure. Whatever.
What's gotten you so mad today?
Cite?
Really? Who has “openly admitted that”?
All the Trump voters I know voted for Trump because they thought Hillary and Biden were going to be disasters. And they were right.
As I have pointed out, I don’t vote at all anymore; I think Americans deserve to suffer the consequences of their stupid choices.
But as a libertarian by ideology, I would certainly not vote for the “Libertarian Party”, whose sole reason for existence seems to be to give libertarianism a bad name.
Well, damikesc for starters.
Cite?
Yeah, I'd like a cite for that, you useless fuckwit cunt of a Leftist.
Shocker....no citation.
Though, you do skew more left, versus say, in favor of individual rights.
So, how do you think I "skew left" in a manner that is not consistent with individual rights? Give examples please.
Lockdowns, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, racial marxist indoctrination, persecution via Federal police.
Just a couple quick examples
So, none of the things that I support. Got it.
Is this why you are crying about people having links to your past comments? Because you have supported each one.
You need to make your lies less transparent. You've supported CRT multiple times and been vehemently in support of the mask and vaccine mandates as well as the penalties fornon-compliance. The list goes on for all of the examples cited.
Cite where I have ever expressed support for a government mask mandate or a government vaccine mandate. Go on, I'll wait.
I have never expressed support for CRT - the ACTUAL CRT, not the right-wing redefined one. I said it has some ideas worth considering but it also has some ideas that are kooky. I oppose BANNING it because I don't believe in banning ideas period, especially from schools. That way leads to indoctrination.
All you are doing is repeating Jesse's lies about me. What do you think that earns you? Exclusive access to Jesse's Mean Grrlz Fan Club or something?
I supplied you a lost of a dozen times last year when you first began denying it shit weasel.
And then he whined and bitched that people had a history of his comments.
You’re lying.
Parents shouldn't get a say in school policies or material.
Everyone has to reach your level of morals before you will grant them liberty.
You defending mask mandates to lower your risk because you're fat.
Increased spending under the left such as welfare for the homeless.
Increased immigration in a welfare state.
IC going after duly elected presidents.
Impeachments on nonsense for the same.
Supporting the state undermining the duly elected president.
Supporting antifa and BLM riots to enact change in politics.
CRT
I'll add federal takeover of elections. That's your most recent.
Globalist/elitist rule, removing power from an individual.
Politics will never be a noble pursuit.
Pick your poisons well.
Feelings have nothing to do with it. The LP has no serious strategy, no serious candidates, and is a basket case.
If I wanted to have my feelings validated, I would vote for Sanders or Warren, because at this point, my feelings amount to nothing but contempt for the American voter, and those feelings are validated and reflected by having one of those socialist a—holes run the country for a while.
Yes, that’s what you do. We function off of facts and data. Guided by principles.

Waitaminnit! I had already blocked this particular infiltrator. Is the cretin filter not working?
"it is in the blue states where affordable housing is often hardest to find, there are some of the most acute disparities in education funding, and economic inequality is increasing most quickly."
It is also in the blue states, and blue minds, where we find a special kind of stupid, where idealistic (if not ideological) utopian dreams constantly over-rule reason, logic, and observation. For these people, disastrous delusions are not the problem--they just want to delusion harder.
They want EVERYONE to delusion harder. If all of just closed our eyes and chanted, "I DO believe in fairies!", Tinkerbell would fly.
"One reason some political commentators are forever writing articles headlined "The Myth of the Independent Voter" is that the bloc does not necessarily have a coherent and predictable set of ideological or political-consumer preferences."
Another reason is that these commentators are so partisan that they disdain those who refuse to see the ideological light and join the righteous team.
It is 289 days to the election. That is an eternity in this bloodsport called American politics. If there is one thing Team R has shown in the past it is that they are utterly incompetent, politically. Right now, they better be raising moolah like crazy, because they will need it. And for God's sake, don't try to 'help' Team D's electoral demise; just let them self-destruct.
The fact is, we have a POTUS whose policies are terrible. There is no hiding reality. I remember Jimmy Carter in office. It was pretty terrible, domestically and internationally. We are not yet at that point, but I will say we are moving in that direction (and accelerating). Biden's team, who are really Obama's retreads, gave him horrible advice on Afghanistan. His domestic policy advisors are worse; their 'brain children' consistently get 'bench-slapped' by SCOTUS.
The stars are aligning for an electoral rout.
I wonder why shootings by White guys would provoke attacks against the NRA, while shiotings by Black guys do not.
Because the NRA represents the white guys progressives hate in their racist minds?
I imagine the NRA (or its successor) is going to increasingly cater to blacks and hispanics.
Gunowners of America caters to firearm owners.
https://www.gunowners.org/
Shootings by brown people are exploited to curry sympathy for DEA agents, asset-forfeiture "sharing" funds and NYT "cocaine negro" articles in support of more initiation of deadly force by the people entrusted with defending individual rights. It ain't pretty, but that is the face of racial collectivism today.
Serious question: how do we get representative government that more accurately reflects the politics of the citizenry? If polls are even partially correct, the people of the USA prefer no dedicated party affiliation, support moderate policies, and are not looking for ambitious levels of governance. Out current federal and state executives and representatives seem like direct opposites.
The answer is that they need to vote for moderates and stay home rather than vote for extremists. And that's what will happen in 2022. The progressives have waaaaaaaay overstepped their mandate, and they'll pay with their seats. Meanwhile, I suspect Sinema and Manchin will be fine over the long term. Sinema may have been censured by the extremists that run the Democratic party in Arizona, but if she manages to survive the next election in Arizona, it will only be because she differentiated herself in the minds of swing voters. Likewise, if and when Manchin wins again in West Virginia, it will be because a significant number of swing voters and registered Republicans vote for him--because he's a moderate. The solution to extremism in Congress is moderate voters.
If each has a campaign “war chest” and can convince enough locals to be loyal to them more than to the party, each could trade their (D) for an (I).
Imagine a group of say ten independent senators sitting in a 45-45 chamber. Who are the most powerful in that scenario?
You may logically point out that currently, one of the (I) is a fauxialist (Bernie) with the other basically a party-line Democrat (Angus King).
Senators get 6 years to build a campaign war chest for the next election. New candidates get in general 9 months. Campaign limits and rules favor incumbents which favors the state.
Although the GOP will almost certainly regain control of the US House, and will likely regain control of the US Senate in November (although SCOTUS striking down Roe v Wade will change things radically in many states), virtually none of the far left Democrats in Congress or State Legislatures (or City Councils or School Boards) will lose their seats in November.
Rather, its the moderate Democrats who are most likely to lose their seats in the US House, US Senate and State Legislatures (because most Democrats in deep blue cities are socialists).
I'm sure the Democrats in purple and red states and districts will lose disproportionately, but the recent election results in New Jersey and Virginia give us good reason to hope that progressive extremists in deep blue states will lose as well. This is shaping up to be an historic election.
Normally, you'd expect the president and the congressional leadership to back down in an election year, but it appears that both Biden and Schumer are doubling down. I didn't see anything in Biden's press conference to suggest that he's moving to the center. Schumer is promising to bring all of those controversial bills up for a vote piecemeal--because he's worried about facing a primary challenge from AOC.
In other words, the extremists aren't letting up, and Biden is leading them. That should make the dissatisfaction with Democrats run deep into blue territory. There isn't any state that is so deep blue that Republicans shouldn't bother to come out and vote because they have no chance of winning.
If Republicans can almost win in New Jersey, they can win anywhere.
This may be one of the few cases where doubling down is the correct metaphor (from casino blackjack) rather than doubling up the way used to be said until about 25 years ago. There are no more cards to take after this, and they have no more stakes to lay on the table.
I'm in a "red" county in what's lately been the "blue" state of NJ, but I think the state's going to be seen as "purple" presently. Or maybe all red: Republicans and socialists.
I can't believe how close the Democrat came to losing in New Jersey.
That's what I'm thinking these days. It means the usual corrective, center-seeking mechanism of 2-party politics isn't going to work. Usually it'd be the realization by one party that they've swung too far in one direction and need to moderate. I'm not sure, but I think it's now gone too far for the Democrats, and that positive rather than negative feedback will take over, kicking out the moderates. I don't think it's going to happen all in one round of elections, but it's coming and will result in the Democrats making themselves a minor party — not just a minority party, but an actual minor party, dropping out of consideration as a serious player in elections — in more and more of the country, in some places slipping into 3rd or 4th place behind who-knows-what. Whether that process will proceed far enough to permanently extinguish the Democrats as a major party, or whether enough people will see the opportunities in the shell they leave to build it back up, I don't know.
I think the progressives are like religious zealots, who don't care whether they're wrong or right. They're like abolitionists who are perfectly okay with killing hundreds of thousands of Americans and burning whole American cities to the ground for their cause--except the cause of modern progressives is not abolishing slavery. It isn't even confined to social justice issues. It's also vaccines, masks, climate change, voting laws, social media, expanding entitlements, and raising taxes. But like the abolitionists, they don't care about the consequences. They want what they want because they want it, and they won't let anything get in the way--not even the filibuster, the First Amendment, inflation, or moderate Democrats.
The progressives are basically religious fanatics, and they don't care whether they're wrong or right or the consequences of their actions. They're driven by the same part of our brains that evolved to encompass religion. Their fanaticism makes them feel like they're a part of something bigger than themselves and they use the agenda to give their lives meaning and purpose. It isn't about being right or wrong about the consequences of what they want in policy. It's about how they feel when they're all worked up about something.
There was a recent episode of This American Life about a former evangelical missionary outreach type who became more of atheist after college but found the same itch scrapped by becoming a climate change driven fanatic. It was telling in that he lost his family in trying to save the world from the environmental apocalypse, and yet it was his climate change fanaticism that continued to drive his thinking even after all the negative consequences. This is what drives progressives. In their minds, they're in a struggle against evil--whether that be their fellow Americans or not--and the consequences of fighting evil be damned.
"Producer Aviva DeKornfeld was interested in the toll that having a wakeup-moment could have on a family, and she heard about someone who had a moment like that over a decade ago. He tried to pull his family into activism too, and what unfolded was the most extreme example of things going badly in a family that Aviva heard of.

Yup, it is true that there is fanaticism on the Left.
But never any fanaticism among the Right, nope, nosirree.
And if there is fanaticism on the Right, it is only because The Left Made Them Do It.
Because, as we all know, It's Always Team Blue's Fault
Cry harder, faggot.
Is probably what Buttplug and Tony yell at Jeffy when they get together and raw dog his ass. Fun f@ct, Jeff’s real name is Topper Bottoms.
But some of those are evanescent issues. Voting laws, only tactically as expected to affect particular elections. Social media, as the sides have been chosen up. Vaccines and masks only temporary stances for temporary reasons.
What are the politics of "alternative medicine" these days? How the ever-loving fuck did people decide to line up politically regarding CoVID-19 treatments? It's amazing how Trump would make offhand remarks about treatments his doctor told him showed promise, and then people would line up for or against and then those positions hardened!
"What are the politics of "alternative medicine" these days? How the ever-loving fuck did people decide to line up politically regarding CoVID-19 treatments?"
Again, I see it as a religious thing.
Catholics don't eat fish on Fridays.
Jews won't eat cheese on their deli sandwiches.
Mormons avoid caffeine.
These older traditions have been filtered through the lens of American culture, the First Amendment, and respecting the religious beliefs of others--so they aren't generally trying to force their religious beliefs on others. Progressives don't recognize the difference between their church and the state--and forcing others to make sacrifices for the greater good (as they see it) is the essence of their religious beliefs.
My understanding is that 98% of the federal workforce is vaccinated.
My understanding is that the Biden administration went to court to force the other 2% to comply.
I don't believe there's much benefit in using the coercive power of law to force the last 2% of federal workers (or society) to be vaccinated. I strongly suspect Biden's mandate is mostly symbolic and taken by progressives, generally, as an expression of faith.
Joe Biden using the coercive power of government to force the last 2% to submit to vaccination is like him taking communion in public or setting up a nativity scene on the White House lawn. It's a public expression of the progressive faith.
Note to foreign readers: "Roberta" is a male girl-bullier cross-dressing as female to infiltrate a libertarian discussion space and persuade voters to abandon freedom for the initiation of force against the increasing proportion of women voters. One does not expect honesty from force-initiating looters.
We get it, you love murdering infants more than anything in the world. We also know you’re an anti religion bigot.
But staying home encourages extremist candidates--something I suspect is a deliberate party strategy.
What do you think would happen if we changed election criteria from a majority of votes cast to a majority of eligible voters?
Moderate Democrats staying home doesn't encourage extremists when the incumbent is an extremist. Moderates staying home discourages extremists.
You could expand the size of the House of Representatives. That is one option. The House is 435 members. Expanding it to 1,500-1,700 or so would probably account for population growth over time since it was last set at 435 members. That would almost guarantee more ideological diversity....assuming third-party candidates and independents can raise the money needed to win a House race.
No.
Every single piece of legislation would start with (or contain) "the [Executive branch position] shall determine". You cannot make any large group agree with any precision, and so they would just pass the buck to someone else (much as they do now). When things go bad, they scream "blame x" and can take comfort in the fact that their membership in 1 out of too many will protect them from the voters.
I propose an alternative:
Abolish the House entirely, cut the Senate in half. Then we'll re-add a small number of reps to the Senate, determined by population of the states themselves. 2 for the largest (no ceiling, so one state can have both), 8 for the 8 smallest states (1 rep maximum), and 7 for the middle (the exact center of the list, and 3 up and 3 down). Everyone else gets none.
Serious question: how do we get representative government that more accurately reflects the politics of the citizenry?
Structural reform in how governance works in this country.
Expand the size of the House, as Commenter_XY noted. There is no reason for it to be capped at 435.
Explore different electoral methods. Ranked choice voting, etc.
Explore changes to how districts are drawn, or even questioning why we have districts in the first place. Why not have slates of candidates for each state? Why not have proportional representation - if a party gets X% of the vote, then that party gets X% of the seats. Why not? Other advanced countries do something similar and they are not shitholes.
The senate doesn't represent the populace you blathering idiot. Return the senate to the states.
Proportional representation of the type you write of forces people to organize and think in terms of political parties. Organization into political parties is already unrepresentative, albeit long established, of Americans.
Yeah, but the parties tend to be more transitory, not the hoary behemoths that we have today.
Whorey behemoth?
Don’t talk about your mom like that!
The answer is vote Libertarian. Nazi and communist socialists want an answer that starts with violent coercion, and struggle to evade the obvious tried and true method that has changed the world in 50 years.
We don’t have a parliamentary form of government. So most what you’re advocating is illegal. Of course, as a progressive democrat with Marxist aspirations, you don’t care.
Parliamentary governments do not shrink the role of the state. EVER.
You can either have a better, more "friendly" government, or you can have one with a limited reach. Your choice.
Parliamentary governments do not shrink the role of the state. EVER.
Except Thatcher's Britain.
The problem is that we have representative government that accurately reflects the politics of the citizenry. For example, Biden was elected to stop Covid, an impossible task. We need smarter citizens that can realistically assess what governments can achieve.
They thought they were getting a moderate in Biden, and they voted for him against the backdrop of the scariest rise in unemployment in history. They didn't get what they were sold. The voters wanted sure and steady moderation, but what they got was Mao's Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution.
Sure. A big spending bill is equivalent to mass murder of peasants in the Chinese countryside.
Do you even read what you write?
You are illustrating part of the problem with both teams now. They cannot oppose the other team based on policies. They must invent scary bogeymen to argue against. With Trump, he was the Next Hitler. With Biden, he is the Next Mao. It's absurd and ridiculous.
The exaggeration plays well to anti-Left commenters here. You are spoiling Ken's fun by not worshipping everything he says.
You’re actually admitting you’re a leftist?
So only you guys are allowed to use hyperbole?
I don't know what was said, but the social justice warriors among the progressives are much like they were in the Cultural Revolution, and Biden's Build Back Better agenda created whole new entitlements much like the Great Leap Forward. To some extent there was some hyperbole there, but to some extent, that comparison is on point. The social justice warriors are all about public struggle sessions and canceling people like they did during the Cultural Revolution, and Biden's Build Back Better agenda was an attempt to recast the economy in a socialist model. If progressives don't like their agenda being compared to the the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward, then maybe they should stop acting like the Chinese communists of the 20th century.
but to some extent, that comparison is on point.
maybe they should stop acting like the Chinese communists of the 20th century.
So, not hyperbole then.
Ken really does think Biden's big spending bill is equivalent to mass murder of peasants in the Chinese countryside.
DesigNate, do you have something to say?
If you can't see the similarities between the current left and the mao revolution youre a fucking idiot.
"Ken really does think Biden's big spending bill is equivalent to mass murder of peasants in the Chinese countryside."
"the social justice warriors among the progressives are much like they were in the Cultural Revolution, and Biden's Build Back Better agenda created whole new entitlements much like the Great Leap Forward."
We'll see if you can read any better this time.
Read the four words after "Agenda", if you're able to either read OR count.
I understand what you are saying, I just don’t think it has gotten Mao levels of bad. Yet.
I just don’t think it has gotten Mao levels of bad. Yet.
WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING BIDEN???????????????????
You’ll notice no one will accuse me of that and I won’t be muted either.
I wonder why that is?
I'm accusing you of that. Because you don't subscribe to the most outrageous accusations against him, you must be defending him. There are only two choices, as has been pointed out numerous times here:
One must believe that Team Blue is full of evil monsters.
One must believe that Team Blue is full of angelic saints.
That's it, only two choices. So because you don't think Biden is literally at Mao-levels of behavior, that means you agree with Biden's agenda.
See, the world is very simple when there are only two colors, black and white. Either Biden is Our Perfect Savior, or Biden is literally Hitler and Mao and Stalin rolled up into one.
"I'm accusing you of that."
Because you're totally not a Leftist.
"Because you don't subscribe to the most outrageous accusations against him, you must be defending him."
Not a leftist guys. Seriously.
"One must believe that Team Blue is full of evil monsters.
One must believe that Team Blue is full of angelic saints."
Not.
A.
Leftist.
"See, the world is very simple when there are only two colors, black and white. Either Biden is Our Perfect Savior, or Biden is literally Hitler and Mao and Stalin rolled up into one."
BOAF SIDEZ, GUYZ!
Seriously, you are responding to a guy, Ken, who literally argued that it was entirely appropriate to question the legitimacy of the election results, EVEN IF THEY WERE TOTALLY LEGIT, because it would undermine Biden's agenda. He is willing to undermine the fabric of democracy itself because he thinks it will stop Democrats.
So of course he thinks Biden is equivalent to Mao. That is how I knew it was not hyperbole with him.
He does not listen to me. Maybe you can talk some sense into him.
He does not listen to me because: 1) you're not interesting, 2) you're not intelligent, 3) you are a liar.
Same reason nobody else takes anything you say seriously.
"Sure. A big spending bill is equivalent to mass murder of peasants in the Chinese countryside.
Do you even read what you write?"
Holy fuck, are you able to read?
He did not say "BBB is like the Cultural Revolution". He said the entire Progressive movement the last few years and especially this year are that.
Eliminate the concept of man or woman.
Block parents from knowing what their schools are teaching.
Demand government issued passports to do anything in cities exclusively run by Democrats.
Teach kids that race is the most important thing about them.
Fuck over kids' education to protect teachers who suck at their jobs anyway.
I disagree.
But your post reminds me of another possible approach: have people vote directly for policy, in some general sense. And then government (which still could include elected representatives) have to sort out how to implement the "elected" policy preferences.
What you mean, stopping Covid was an impossible task? First Biden converted the unreliable product of Trump's Project Warp Speed into reliable vaccines, which worked for a while. Then people stopped believing in Biden, so the vaccines stopped working. Then cloth face masks stopped being as good as N95. We need to restore confidence in Biden so these things work again.
You just need to BELIEVE, Peter!
Also a little fairy dust when Mayor Pete gets back from matenity leave.
The only reason people thought Biden could stop covid is because Biden promised he could stop covid.
Biden was elected to stop mystical bigots from again bullying girls. This was a big problem before the 1972 LP platform convinced the Supremes to repeal: "all laws restricting voluntary birth control or voluntary termination of pregnancies during their first hundred days.” This they did. But Mystical bigot rednecks are no less outraged by that enforcement of rights than by Brown v Board of Education. They keep coming back so the Republican party needs to be discarded like the Federalist, Whig and Prohibition parties before it.
Same old tedious bullshit from our resident senile nutcase.
We want less government, not government that caters to our preferences.
Reason mag seems to assume that independent voters are automatically libertarian.
The independents I know all proclaim they "vote for the candidate and not for policies." Therefore, charming rogues and scoundrels will have the advantage over those the media portrays as bumbling (athletic Gerry Ford) or stupid (Dan Quayle reading a cue card that misspelled "potato.") or obnoxious (Hillary, Donald) or unhinged (Howard Dean). Party voters usually swallow hard and cast their vote for their party's candidate, no matter how unacceptable he or she is to their own views. Independents are far more persuadable - for good or bad - and liable to fall for whatever propaganda they listen to.
What they're hoping for is solutions that are scientific or "reasonable" to matters of public policy, ignoring ideology and hence ending contention. The right person will be someone who "gets under the hood" as Perot promised, and administers the medicine that may not be pretty or palatable, but is needed.
Actually Trump fit this mold for many of them. A guy who's been successful in other walks of life, was not a politician, is a showman, and who pissed them off with a message that they sensed was truthful albeit not what they wanted to hear.
However, many of these types value experience highly. They went for Biden largely because he had such a long record in politics, how could he go wrong?
The Don let a bunch of Positive Christianity nationalsocialists drool all over him, then set off to bully girls and rob and shoot people over plant leaves. Biden did not intend to bully girls, and the increasing female vote plus libertarian spoiler votes in 3 key states put Kamala in line for the top post. Superstitious coercion no longer sells. This is the nuclear age.
Independents and conservatives don’t want solutions, we want less government, period.
The people who want scientific and reasonable solutions are progressives and socialists.
It is indeed a fact. Think for a minute and tell us what is the antonym of racist? ... ... ... Time's up. The answer is individualist. All collectivist groupthink kleptocracies hate the LP because our spoiler votes repeal their violent, collectivist laws. Read some Robert Heinlein. He did for Ayn Rand what Bellamy and Howells did for Karl Marx
Yes. Allowing people to think and decide for themselves defies the unified grand plan (and offends the holy doctrine).
"When the people fear the government, there is tyranny; but when the government fears the people, there is liberty." - Jefferson
That's another reason left wing socialists and race baiters hate Jefferson, and have been tearing down his statues.
Jefferson is my favorite founding father by far.
The Jefferson Bible was inspiring for this secular humanist. To oppose what many wanted to be a state religion at the time was an act of bravery.
No it wasn't. It was an absolute craze post Reformation. And trying to find an educated person in the eighteenth century who wasn't manufacturing his own theology in Protestant lands, would be an exercise in futility.
I'm always amazed by the utter lack of historical knowledge you have.
If you were honest like William F Buckley you would admit as a conservative your primary goal is to proselytize and movement conservatism is the best vehicle you to do such.
Buckley admitted that one can't be a conservative without first being a Christian. It's why he hated Ayn Rand and vice-versa.
Sad attempt at deflection and attempting to change the conversation, Shrike. This time with weird opinion and name calling.
"your primary goal is to proselytize and movement conservatism is the best vehicle you to do such"
Proselytize what? What the fuck are you even trying to say here?
"one can't be a conservative without first being a Christian"
Hundreds of millions of Muslims and Hindus are about to be shocked by this bold claim.
You're really too stupid to be here. If I were your boss at the fifty cent factory I'd have canned your ass ages ago.
According to Gore Vidal, super-Christian Bill Buckley
had a fondness for underage Puerto Rican boy prostitutes.
It’s no wonder you admire him.
Obviously for buttplug
Admire Buckley or any conservative? Me? Are you a moron?
I spend my time here bashing conservatives. I would also spend time bashing progressives but everyone else already does that.
But you're totally not a lefty.
I hate a liar.
For buttplug.
You don't bust Progs because they are trying to normalize adult men nailing young boys, which seems to be a fascination for you.
And something I feel telling about Jan 6, and how people reacted. We should hope that government officials have some fear of the people (and not just a few mega donors).
Was Biden coaching the Packers special teams yesterday?
It is hilarious that the major theme of the media has been BIDEN FAILURES! for a few weeks now.
Except they cite as the "failures" his inability to pass Build Back Better and Voter Protection.
And his approval rating is dropping? No shit. He is getting it from every direction.
NOTE: I oppose any new spending including Build Back Better. This is consistent with my opposition of Trump's 2020 CARES and Welfare Handout COVID Opportunity Act.
So.... nothing else happened? No mandates. No inflation? No clown shows in the ME?
If Jimmy Carville were the spokesman for NAMBLA, I think we know what his talking points would look like.
He must think we're as easily fooled as the kids chained up in his cellar.
Indeed, almost the entire media — including formerly respectable places like CNN, NYT, WaPo, NPR, and Slate — has transformed into wingnut.com by publishing anti-Biden misinformation.
Oh well. You'll always have your favorite source Wikipedia though.
Wow, now that we are all here let's play Wheel of Soros.
Conservative firebrand Alex Jones exposes Jimmy Kimmel as a Satanist Globalist Child-Eating Bilderberger:
https://youtu.be/pc-BGfDQmyQ
Spin that Wheel!
turd lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a TDS-addled asshole and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Couldn’t find a World Weekly News article to post?
They’re to intellectual for him.
“Too”
Lol, somehow in Shrike's world Alex Jones is a weird extremist, but Grandmother Stern and Jimmy Kimmel aren't.
O/T: Well well, get the popcorn ready. It's Palin vs. NYT.
https://www.npr.org/2022/01/23/1074164937/new-york-times-sarah-palin-trial-begins
I think the biggest problem here, is that it's going to be hard to prove that Palin suffered material harm as a result of that editorial.
Who?!!
She was his crush before Trump came along.
Sarah Palin. Perhaps the name rings a bell now?
Not her, he was referring to the NYT.
Jeff used to fap to her. Now he’s a Trump boy.
I envision Jeff as being a morbidly obese, weirdly effeminate know it all who constantly lies and mangles facts while acting pious and endlessly annoying.
With about half an inch to his family name.
Vaguely glistening in the light like oily, buttered popcorn.
With pustules.
Kind of like Ceaser in ‘Heaven help Us’, but not intelligent, and much fatter.
“To whom brother! To whom brother!”
Michael Palin’s niece.
Michael Palin. He was part of the Monte Python crew. (Only Palin with any relevance I can think of.)
All the others just palin comparison?
Orwell sort of said: "There are only four ways in which a ruling group can fall from power. Either it is conquered from without, or it governs so inefficiently that the masses are stirred to revolt, or it allows a strong and discontented Libertarian Party to come into being, or it loses its own self-confidence and willingness to govern."
The LP is here already, a fact understood by everyone but Matt. Back when Democrat James Michael Curley was posing with nazi Father Coughlin, FDR warned that the Radio Priest's party "could throw votes to the Republicans." Back then it was looter v. looter. This is now.
or it loses its own self-confidence and willingness to govern."
We're in that phase. One of the most disturbing elements of what I'm seeing unfold before my eyes, in my own back yard, is a kind of ennui amongst the entrenched political class and the establishment media. They simply have either forgotten how or can't be bothered to govern. Even I have been shocked at how, when politicians are "asleep at the wheel", you don't end up with a vibrant, free-wheeling libertarianism, you end up with something really dark.
Exactly why probably deserves further discussion, but I think it has to do with the fact that the ruling political establishment still maintains power and will wield that power arbitrarily-- for their own pet interests. Ie, to simplify a bit, they're not interested in filling potholes, maintaining roads, making sure public lands are overrun with meth addicts with LITERAL mountains of trash building up...or even really ensuring that the police show up when you call 911. But they're very interested in inserting themselves in the curriculum of the schools, or (certainly within the last 24 months) making sure you wear a mask and don't enter a business without a vaccine passport. <a href=They're lightning fast to jump on anything and make vociferous, prolonged condemnations of anything racist.
cont'd (tried to post a link and fat fingered the enter key)
But if a normie is attacked or murdered in a place of business, it's just an unfortunate incident that doesn't even get an acknowledgement from the people in power.
I think if I had to sum it up, the part about the loss of willingness to govern DOESN'T come with a complete LACK of governing, it comes with an entirely ARBITRARY mode of governing which results in some very scary outcomes.
I think another thing about the loss of willingness to govern is that the other modes which Orwell described can be "fixed". I don't know if the latter can be fixed. It may have to just result in a slow system collapse and be rebuilt. And hopefully the rebuilding doesn't result in something scary.
I think there is something to what you say. And I think it is related to the never-ending re-election campaigns, along with the modern realization that what really drives voters to polls are hot-button emotional issues. Fixing potholes is not a hot-button issue. Doing the routine acts of governance is not going to drive anyone to the polls anymore. I think that is one reason why, in 2020, so many local election offices were so eager to take Facebook money to help them implement new voting strategies - because these offices had been so underfunded and neglected in the past by politicians who knew they could not get re-elected on a campaign platform of "we conducted the elections smoothly!"
Grease the wheel of fortification, you useful idiot.
As a variation on governing inefficiently, how about governing so bizarrely that the masses, and even some of the elites, are stirred to revolt?
The Independents Strike Back
If you make the government feel too dangerous, a corrective bloc of voters will pour cold water on your face.
Yeah, we did that in 2016. And tried again in 2020.
Biden started his term with an approval rate among independents that Trump could only dream of: 61 percent
If Biden started with an approval rating of 61% among independents, I think it's time to dig into who's calling themselves an independent and why.
Biden didn't start with an approval rating of 61% in the general population. If "Independents" favored him at a greater rate than the collective of non-independents, then the kind of people who self-identify as "independent" is part of some wider self-selection paradigm that I think would be very interesting to delve into.
Well Mike Laursen, spb, collectivistjeff, sqrlsy claim to be independents.
It's just one particular aspect of leftist dishonesty.
In all seriousness, what it tells me is that people who are quick to identify as "independents" may generally left leaning people who want to appear "above it all", but still hold an allegiance to whatever flavor of left is being peddled within the establishment party.
There may actually be something sociologically significant here. That perhaps people on the right find an easier time identifying with the right half of the two major parties, but some kind of schism has occurred on the left, making it so Democrats have a reluctance to identify as such, but still maintain said allegiance.
I'm not making a judgment about Democrats in my thinking here, I'm just wondering if there's something significant going on that could be interesting to explore.
"Independents" are simply people who reject the two-party false choice that is presented to us.
At this point, there's really only two reasons to support either of the two major parties: either one is a true believer, or one buys into the fearmongering rhetoric: "If you don't vote for US, then Team Evil will win!" I'm not a true believer, and I don't fall for the fearmongering bullshit.
That is not independent in this context you dishonest, ignorant leftist. Independents are people who are not registered Democrat or Republican, that is all. Could be they're marxists, Green, Libertarian or just registered independent due to how the elections are setup for primary voting. No rejection required.
Me: ""Independents" are simply people who reject the two-party false choice that is presented to us."
You: "Independents are people who are not registered Democrat or Republican, that is all."
So we agree, and yet even when we agree, you accuse me of being wrong and lying.
Are you always this obnoxious to people who are agreeing with you?
Also you: "At this point, there's really only two reasons to support either of the two major parties: either one is a true believer, or one buys into the fearmongering rhetoric."
Context: "In all seriousness, what it tells me is that people who are quick to identify as "independents" may generally left leaning people who want to appear "above it all", but still hold an allegiance to whatever flavor of left is being peddled within the establishment party."
I’m an independent. I was a Libertarian, but gave up on the LP because, well, they ain’t that good at promoting libertarianism.
It is a wonderful debating society, though, if that is what one is looking for in a political party.
I have never actually been to a Libertarian Party convention. Maybe if my state has a state convention this year I will try to attend.
It's worth the experience at least once.
I actually ran for office as a Libertarian once. (Probably don't need to say this, but I didn't win.)
Neither one of you assbags is a libertarian. Shut up!
REAL libertarians LOVE Trump!
You're a frothing leftist see-lyin.
You're as much Independent as progs are Liberal. You say the words but it does not mean what you think it means.
They project their behavior: claiming to be independent yet fighting vociferously and in bad faith (whataboutism, lying, topic changing) when criticism of their beloved Biden is posted by actual independents.
I for one am firmly libertarian, not independent... That means, like many posters here, I oppose the authoritarianism of both the left AND the right! "Both sides" are, indeed, enemies of individual personal freedoms, and friends of ever-growing Government Almighty!
Either get a new shtick, or shut up. So goddamn boring.
No no no. Sqrlsy. Lord Ken has decreed that Republicans are now "libertarian and capitalist" and has thus commanded us to vote for them.
Compared to democrats (actual communists at this point) republicans are libertarian.
"When I make up my own standards for comparison, I can pretend that Republicans are actually libertarian"
Except there is no “making up” you’re not nearly as smart as you think.
A common trait among idiots.
He isn’t smart at all. Definitely not smart enough to be here. Or honest.
"When I realize my entire argument is full of shit, I just resort to insults" -- Vulgar
Substitute insults with hyperbole and we have you.
Your first resort is always to lie.
The only time he resorts to truth is during vacations.
He’s on the spectrum for sure.
That's insulting to autists.
One side is demanding "proof of vaccine" to live your life.
One side is not.
This. I do not think independents are actually “independent” with their voting selection. I’d like to see how they vote over time. I’m willing to bet the vast majority have never cast a vote for a Republican. That’s not independence. That’s Democrat by another name.
I think swing votes are more likely non actives (both registered and not) who feel disenfranchised by their party who don’t show up to vote regularly that are then energized enough to show up. I have voted in my party’s primary more than I have voted in the general. I know a few registered Rs that have done that.
The swing is the “unlikely” voter.
Screw the independents. Get after the youth vote. Independents are pocket change. I’m talking the 2020 presidential election. The data I read showed the under-30 crowd went bigly not for Trump, leading to his doom.
The margins were significant enough to make the difference, for Biden, especially in the swing states. Only a shift in “white educated males” to Biden was as eye-opening as a dynamic.
I think this was from Pew Polling data.
In terms of largest youth margins ( for Biden), the order was blacks, Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites. Btw, the mail-in ballots roughly correlated to those margins.
Of course. All of which explains the noise behind the left’s voting rights epiphany. It’s a youth magnet. Soon you’ll be able to text your vote, I suppose. Moreover, the youth crowd saw COVID, racism and jobs ( economy) as the paramount issues.
So look for Biden and his prog-posse to hammer home those themes.
I can’t wait for the 800% voter turnout after you can text your vote.
If you oppose it, re-name yourself Bull Connor.
I’m not a democrat.
Heh. Your party tag matters not. Your individuality matters not. Only the wokeism matters. They just need a pretext to achieve it, and the Bull Connor/Wallace/Davis appellation will suffice for now.
Then let the show trials begin. Or the struggle sessions. Take your pick. The jackboot is on your throat.
Straight from the commies’ playbook. E.g., Stalin would find some pretext for his nasty, and it didn’t matter what or who you were. An old Bolshevik. Trotsky, didn’t matter.
Find a pretext and marginalize the enemy. We are all Bull Connor now. Or something. Sooner or later, anyway.
Biden did love George Wallace though.
Always spinning memes to deny Democrsat voter fraud, eh?
Going after the youth vote is a sure fire way to get stupid (Biden is exhibit A).
The young voting age in this country are the top of woke. I don’t think catering to those deliberately psy-oped idiots is the best way to run a country.
O/T: Well it looks like the time for remorse among the Jan. 6 rioters is over.
https://www.businessinsider.com/capitol-rioter-says-insurrection-gave-him-street-cred-2022-1
Paul Davis told the New York Times that he initially felt ashamed of himself for having participated in the Capitol riot. He was fired from his job as a lawyer and his fiancée left him, the Times reported.
But then he had a change of heart and began to feel proud of his involvement, he told the Times.
"It definitely activated me more," Davis said. "It gave me street cred."
He said the Capitol riot motivated him to start up his own law firm that represents workers who do not want to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Davis was among the 12 people interviewed by the Times who said their participation in the Capitol riot now represents resistance to the status quo.
But I thought it was a false flag operation staged by the FBI.
But I thought it was actually Antifa and BLM that participated in the riots.
You don’t even know how to think.
Many people were there for disparate reasons. Only someone as autistic as you could interpret accusations of FBI involvement as meaning only the FBI was there. I’m actually embarrassed for you.
Oh, so there WERE pro-Trump rioters there, not antifa, who of their own free will broke into the Capitol. That is quite an admission then.
Keep working your democrat narrative comrade!
Jesus Christ Jeff. Are you really so retarded that you think everyone there was FBI?
No no no. Half were FBI, and the other half were Antifa. That is what I read at breitbart.com. Is that incorrect?
Stop eating shit Jeff.
Jeffs 'Chemicals' appear to be psychodelics, maybe 'shrooms or toad licking.
Probably just meth.
There were probably a smorgasbord of people there including FBI and Antifa.
This shouldn’t be controversial. It’s not like everyone at the riots in Portland were BLM. You know the one where they tried several times to set the building on fire with people inside of it.
It’s not like everyone at the riots in Portland were BLM.
No no no that cannot be true. I was told many times that they were all BLM, OR, they were all complicit in BLM's crimes by "providing cover". Either way ALL were morally guilty of the crimes that were committed. And that anyone who argued against this premise were radical leftist Marxists who sided with America-hating tyrants like Biden.
First you tell me that Biden isn't literally Mao. Now you tell me that the Portland protestors weren't all America-hating BLM monsters. Is there something wrong with you? Are you drunk?
Funny seeing you, who have been making binary arguments about 1/6, now whining that others might behave as you did.
Except, of course, in a more intelligent and creative way, natch.
I’m constantly embarrassed from him.
Either you think 1/6 was the worst thing ever or you want to overthrow America.
If you want to ridicule prospective spoilers, you gotta at least know the basics.
Exiting Trump rally was diverted into the capital after provocateurs removed physical barriers and signage, then sat in an overtakrnen media tower with bullhorns yelling at people to "move forward."
None of these men stayed on any FBI wanted lists despite private individuals kindly tracking them down for the feds.
And if people are not ashamed, but proud of a nonviolent act of civil disobedience... Good for them. Thanks for staying out of the road.
Thank heavens we have those truth seekers at revolver.news to tell us the real facts.
Well that and the videos.
The fact of the matter is the overwhelming majority of people that were there, even the ones that entered the building, were non-violent and peaceful.
Is trespassing non-violent?
WE know you think that trespassing should be a capital crime...but, no, trespassing is not a violent crime.
If you don’t destroy anything? Yes.
Of course, the idea that you can trespass on public property is completely fucking asinine, but unfortunately we have an aristocracy that thinks they’re better than us.
Fat, drunk, and gay is no way to go through life son, unless you're the sheriff of Hennepin county. (Minneapolis)
https://www.startribune.com/patrol-sheriff-hutchinson-was-driving-over-120-mph-before-crashing-while-drunk-near-alexandria/600137752/
O/T: Wow, quite a story.
https://www.nbcnews.com/investigations/cop-fatally-struck-nurse-actions-crash-shock-victims-loved-ones-rcna12072
Yes it involves a cop behaving badly. But the family behaved pretty badly too. You just have to read the story to believe it.
NBC can’t be believed.
But revolver.news and breitbart.com, those are reliable sources.
Yes. Now kill yourself.
Or something worse: he should diet.
"Independent" appears to be Libertarians who, bc of Biden, are ashamed to wear the title, and are too Leftist to abode with the Right.
FJB
Fjb with Brandon’s dick!
Cheap toefl certificate making services only here..
Our electoral system encourages Duverger's Law modalities (look it up) that divide our population into roughly equal halves, mostly identical groups that fiercely hate each other, with a 50/50% split wavering in the winds of whim. There hasn't been a landslide in the popular vote since, well, before Reagan.
This is the system we all fight tooth and nail to protect, because we secretly fear that a more fair system would go against us.
What we need is ranked voting or some other alternative that is NOT the first-past-post-takes-all. States that aren't winner-take-all-our-electoral-votes. We need run fewer candidates to appeal to the fringes, and more candidates to appeal to the average voter. Heresy I know.
Agreed. Ranked choice voting would be a major improvement.
Right now, both parties are dominated by their most extreme members. (Though the handful of moderates in the Senate have managed to block them, at times.)
Disagreed. We have that in CA; the majority party quickly becomes the sole party.
Pretty sure it was 'The Underground Economist' who explained how this worked with regard to black women and a lack of un-incarcerated black males; doesn't take a large delta to cause the landslide.
We need less focus on the federal to fix that duality. The duality doesn’t matter if the federal is weak. If we had stronger states, Biden wouldn’t be that big of a disaster. Florida does not look like California, but we all have empty store shelves (strong federal commerce power).
I would love to see a breakdown of how independents vote over time, because my experience with “non-partisans” is that they identify themselves that way so their opinions can be taken as truth without bias. It is conceit.
I have met not one independent who has ever voted for a Republican, so I seriously question independents being the swing factor.
I find it far more likely that the swing factor is a surge in latent voting activity based on the morale of the base. In a season where the right is more energized, more show up to vote and swing the state. The reverse if the Dems are more energized.
Independents don’t decide elections.
Look, another Trumpaloo is refuting something by calling the source "not MY Tribe!", and by spouting grade-school insults! WHY am I not surprised?
No it was not an "attempted coup". It would have been the strangest and most inept "coup" in all of history when the object of the supposed coup-plotters was to depose the President of the Ruling Party and replace him with the Vice-President of the same Ruling Party. It was an FBI investigation that went off the rails, using questionable source data, and with poor oversight by secret courts. That's what it was. The only reason to buy into the "attempted coup" narrative is because Trump said it, and to virtue-signal one's self as belonging to the Cult of Trump.
If you found a private partisan wealthy elite had paid election officials primarily in Democrat counties millions of dollars and they in turn rejected hundreds of thousands of mail in ballots that Democrats are waging court battles to keep secret, would you have any suspicion or even curiosity or is your indoctrination strong enough you would just bend over, grab your ankles and whimper more please sir?
An overwhelming majority of American voters believe Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s multimillion-dollar effort to influence the 2020 presidential election was a bad thing for democracy, and most still think cheating influenced the election outcome. If you and that other guy think different, does it make you right and everyone else wrong?
