French judicial authorities have fired Olivier Bailly, vice president of the family law court in Dijon, after he admitted uploading a photo of his 15-year-old daughter on a swinger's website and offering her for sex. Bailly and his wife, who is also a judge, are swingers. Police found no evidence the wife was involved in uploading the photo of their daughter. Bailly claimed he has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder for more than a decade from the trial of a rapist and serial killer in which he acted as prosecutor. He says he never planned to follow through on arranging sex with his daughter. He faces criminal charges of corrupting a minor and provoking pedophile crime and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

According to the linked article the girl was 12 not 15. I get it was likely a typo on the number pad but crikey it's like 1/4 of her life.

Good catch, I just saw it too. Not only is it "just a quarter of her life" but it's also a distinct and culturally-(ir)relevant boundary (potentially a couple) too. A judge advertising his 18 yr. old daughter on the same 'dating site' he and his wife use in the US is kinda gross but a judge advertising his 15 yr. old daughter on a 'dating site' is defintively illegal. Maybe 15 yr. old French girls are more sexually independent than 15 yr. old American girls but everybody pretty much agrees taht 12 yr. olds both psychologically and even potentially biologically aren't equipped to deal with the issue(s).

Age of consent in France is 15. As I indicated above, AFAICT, the breach of ethics/law is that he advertised her, uh, services without her permission. I find his actions pretty morally reprehensible but, letter of the law, it's a relatively minor issue, especially if he was really just using her legally-obtained image to catfish. It's not like he was sending unsolicited dick pics to minors three (4?) times.

Also, "15" seems to be a typo by the Reason journalist. The linked original article says she was 12. That's illegal even in France - and it often is on the wrong side of the hebephilia/pedophilia divide.

So, as best I can figure, all my previous thoughts on the issue go out the window and the only thing that goes in it's place is "Intentional or not, Reason is abjectly full of shit and cannot be trusted."
