Twitter Boots 7,000 QAnon Conspiracy Theorists
Plus: Congress rejects demilitarization of police, Jorgensen polling at 3 percent, and more...

New rules also exclude QAnon content from Twitter trends. Twitter announced Tuesday that it is permanently suspending the accounts of around 7,000 users who have been spreading conspiracy theories about an alleged global pedophile ring patronized by top Democrats and soon-to-be prosecuted by President Donald Trump.
Known as QAnon, a reference to a secret figure, Q, who drops periodic online "updates" about the absurd and baseless child-trafficking theory, these conspiracy theorists have been gaining ground in the Republican Party, with a number of QAnon-promoting candidates winning primary elections and Trump sometimes retweeting those who use QAnon hashtags and slogans. QAnon grew out of the PizzaGate conspiracy, which surmised that Hillary Clinton and others were trafficking kids for sex through an unassuming D.C. pizza place and resulted in a gunman shooting up the restaurant in 2017.
As early as 2018, Reddit banned some QAnon content. "We are very clear in our site terms of service that posting content that incites violence, disseminates personal information, or harasses will get users and communities banned from Reddit," a spokesperson for Reddit told NBC News then.
Yesterday, Twitter announced that it would be following suit. "We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm," the @TwitterSafety account tweeted. "In line with this approach, this week we are taking further action on so-called 'QAnon' activity across the service."
To be clear, Twitter is not simply banning anyone who tweets about QAnon or shares related ideas. Rather, it's taking action against accounts tweeting about QAnon that are also "engaged in violations of our multi-account policy, coordinating abuse around individual victims, or … attempting to evade a previous suspension," the company said, promising to follow through on the suspensions and other new rules around Q content throughout this week.
These new rules include excluding QAnon-related content from its trends and recommendations sections, working "to ensure we're not highlighting this activity in search and conversations," and blocking "URLs associated with QAnon from being shared on Twitter."
Personally, I understand banning specific abusive or rule-breaking accounts but wish Twitter would leave its trends sections to populate organically and skip the blacklisting URLs bit. But whatever you think of Twitter's move here, it's important to note that Twitter is legally buttressed in its QAnon moves by the federal law known as Section 230. Many on the left and the right want to abolish Section 230, offering up a litany of ways it allegedly protects bad decisions by social media companies and other internet actors. But what Section 230 actually guarantees is that private companies like Twitter can moderate "objectionable" content as they see fit.
So, if you're glad that Twitter is taking down or suppressing the spread of QAnon content, thank Section 230.
And, if you're opposed to Twitter suppressing QAnon content and glad this content can still find a home elsewhere online, you should also thank Section 230. Without it, any web server, blogging software, email newsletter, or other online entity hosting QAnon theories would be much easier for anti-QAnon folks to take down.
In short, Section 230 protects private actors' decisions to both allow controversial content and to ban controversial content. That's a good thing. QAnon may be an absolutely nutso troll-turned-movement, but its proponents have as much right to speak online as the rest of us do.
ELECTION 2020
Libertarian Party presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen is polling at 3 percent, per a new national poll conducted by CNBC/Change Research from July 10–12. Green Party presidential candidate Howie Hawkins polled at 2 percent in the CNBC/Change Research poll. "Separate polling this month by Redfield & Wilton Strategies showed Hawkins with 1 percent support, while Jorgensen was backed by 2 percent of respondents," notes Newsweek.

Yes
Whistleblowers Leah Remini and Mike Rinder open up on the links between Donald Trump, the Nation of Islam, and the Church of Scientology, from loans and donations to fundraising.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/leah-remini-reveals-the-trump-and-louis-farrakhan-ties-to-scientology?ref=home
"whistleblowers"
The deeply weird marriage of convenience between the demographically dying (but still disproportionately influential) NOI and COS is too little known. But it looks to me like Remini and Rinder are trying to hitch a bit of a ride for their crusade on the train of Trump outrage. I wish them the best in their courageous struggle against this very scary "Church," but this is looking a bit silly. They'd do better by pointing out that Greta Van Susteren, Democrat congressman Brad Sherman, and that Cuban congresswoman lady are Scientologists.
The Daily Beast morphed into the Fortean Times so smoothly I barely noticed.
and they say we are wacky the conspiracy theorists....
The only thing worse than being paranoid is finding out you're not.
Yet Qanon, dumb as it is, has more factual basis than Russian collusion.

The best part about leftist/progressive psychosis is how centrally planned it is.
Just a continuous stream of instruction manuals published to instruct how to reconfigure increasingly contradictory sensory information for interpretation into the One True Fantasy
Nah, the best part is how it gaslights itself.
nah, the best part is how it turns on its own supporters if they don't follow in lockstep quickly enough
Well, we have FBI notes showing how pathetic Steele's dossier was, notes showing that they had nothing...yet you continue to buy into a laughable conspiracy and Social media seems OK with SOME inane conspiracies.
Also, you are aware that more info has come out since last April, right?
No?
Shocking.
Go ahead and refute the mueller report's findings on collusion then. All 14 findings.
The findings are designed for simpleton conspiracy theorists. Such as...
1. Trump was receptive to a Campaign national security adviser’s (George Papadopoulos) pursuit of a back channel to Putin.
First, Receptive isn't a finding. It is literally nothing of note. Most transitional groups have met with foreign leaders. The definition of back channel is not even defined.
https://thehill.com/homenews/news/17031-obamas-reps-to-meet-foreign-leaders
6. Trump Tower meeting: (1) On receiving an email offering derogatory information on Clinton coming from a Russian government official, Donald Trump Jr. “appears to have accepted that offer;” (2) members of the Campaign discussed the Trump Tower meeting beforehand; (3) Donald Trump Jr. told the Russians during the meeting that Trump could revisit the issue of the Magnitsky Act if elected.
No information was passed. Meeting was a dud. Unlike Hillary who funneled money through Rose Law Firm to pay Steele to pay Russian informants who actually did deliver derogatory information.
Literally every point in there can be refuted unless you're a conspiracy nut as you have proven again and again.
a world leader being receptive to a back channel to another world leader is also known as statecraft
I mean, it includes this doozy as an example:
7. A Trump Campaign official told the Special Counsel he “felt obliged to object” to a GOP Platform change on Ukraine because it contradicted Trump’s wishes; however, the investigation did not establish that Gordon was directed by Trump.
OH NOES. Solid evidence there dummy.
"All 14 findings (of collusion)"
List three, any three. Your pick.
Guess he didn't want to take you up on your offer.
It's sure been fun watching the Woke running around trying to cancel this, that, and the other thing. You might get the feeling the dam is starting to burst on them.
The left know that they are not going to win individual battles, but what they're actually trying to do is normalize their censorious behavior.
They don't need people to accept cancel culture per say, but simply not to be shocked, disgusted or outraged by it. For the left's purposes a shrug is as good as a hearty endorsement.
Somewhere in hell, Alinsky is smiling.
Or at least make it someone else's problem, which may be all Twitter cares about.

Libertarian Party presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen is polling at 3 percent...
...and then she tweeted about race.
It was race and critical theory in one.
Intersectionality and postmodern critical theory are near and dear to your average libertarian leaning voter.
She's pulling votes from the Green Socialist candidate.
at this point 4 years ago, Johnson was polling at about 8 percent, and ended up at 3.
If that holds, Jorgensen will hit 1.1%. Which seems a little high.
A Libertarian candidate should come in a lot high.
"7,000 users who have been spreading conspiracy theories about an alleged global pedophile ring patronized by top Democrats"
Wow, where do they come up with those crazy notions
Do you remember when they accused the Republicans including the first President Bush of this back in the 90s? The Discovery channel even did a show on it. A group of loonies posting on Twitter seems bland by comparison.
where do they come up with such crazy notions? If Epstein were alive maybe we could ask him. Actually that doesn't matter apparently the police found he had thousands of pictures of young women he moved around the globe in his pedophile plane
Some deliberately makes it up, then peddles it to the tards. Alex Jones was one such person. The "Hillary is part of a pedophile ring" started years ago, and was thoroughly debunked a week after it started. But the tards don't care, they will believe anything that props up their narrative that they are the special people who know more than you.
“Hillary is part of a pedophile ring... was thoroughly debunked a week after it started”
Outrageous. The Clintons never knew Epstein and certainly never did any favors for him.
So, Epstien's Lolita Express, and it's flights to Trafficked Underage Whore Island are a conspiracy theory?
He was in that cell for being the head of a pretty much revealed pedophile ring made up of high-ranking Democrats.
Or did none of that happen now?
"The “Hillary is part of a pedophile ring” started years ago, and was thoroughly debunked a week after it started."
Lemmings, like brandy, keep saying this without anything to back it up.
"It was debunked" - how? What "debunked" it? You NPCs repeat this mantra like you think you can speak it into existence
Hollywood: "Pedophilia by the elites is all a conspiracy!"
A congressional measure to help demilitarize U.S. police forces has failed.
LOL. None of them actually would ever want that. You either need the law & order vote or you need a powerful police force to enforce your centrally planned policies.
I believe the Dems are just as much to blame for this as cop-loving Repubs. Ds message has been that the nation is flooded with assault rifles, and criminals have the biggest, scariest guns everywhere we turn. It's great cover for the Repubs to pretend that the police need the biggest, scariest equipment so they're not outgunned.
No matter how the Ds vote, they have contributed to this atmosphere just as much.
Broke: "Only law enforcement and military should have firearms!"
Woke: "Hey, why are these military-style implements being used against us?"
Broke: “Only law enforcement and military should have firearms!”
Woke: “Hey, why are these military-style implements being used against us?”
*obligatory picture of a dozen officers with paintball guns*
Not to get too pro-militarizing of US police forces, but what does the bill do with unused military surplus? Burn it? Wish it into the cornfield? Auction it off to the highest bidder? Donate it to 501c3s? Give it to the ATF to produce an equally terrible slew of sequels to the original Fast and Furious?
In a free society, citizens should be able to easily distinguish between civilian law enforcement tasked with keeping the peace in our communities and the armed forces tasked with protecting our country from foreign adversaries...
Trump probably ordered him to say this on one of their golf outings.
So then, we are clearly living in a free society.
Unlike Little Rock in 1957.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Paul has the words 'free' and 'ideal' confused. In a free society, civilian police can choose to show up to do their job in whatever garb they believe will get them home safely *especially if said garb is purely defensive*. In an ideal society they would be able to do that while still being easily distinguishable from an occupying military force. Based on that, I'd say the media's disinformation campaign and deliberate attempts to conflate rather than distinguish the two has been a hindrance to a free and ideal society.
NB: That's not to say that the media has to endorse the federal officers in any way, but that the "Unconstitutional warrantless snatch-n-grab by unindentified federal officers" doesn't help distinguish "civilian officers" the way "Federal officers can't/shouldn't be able to arrest anyone not directly attacking them, destroying the federal property, or otherwise overtly committing a crime." would.
"Early birth control advocate Margaret Sanger's "harmful connections to the eugenics movement" have led Planned Parenthood of Greater New York to remove her name from its Manhattan clinic."
And then eugenics was gone forever? That was easy!
What's the opposite of eugenics? Asking for a friend.
Tell your friend to report for a post birth abortion.
Miscegenetics?
The US AFDC system?
Dicey. But funny.
Incredible Egg and the Super Sperms?
Is your friend's name Eugene?
dysgenics, if I remember my Greek properly.
Everyone knows they just switched parties to become republicans.
And then eugenics was gone forever?
Who's turn is it to be the Nazis this week? I can't remember anymore...
The Inuit.
Unfortunately, thanks to the federal government flooding our neighborhoods with billions of dollars of military equipment and property over the years, the line between peace officer and soldier of war has become increasingly blurry.
Didn't export to local law enforcement the military's rules of engagement, however.
I'm wondering how Sen. Biden voted when the legislation came up to allow the Pentagon to provide more military equipment to the police?
just the warrior training part
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Alaska last night.
MORE 2020 PILE-ON, AMIRITE? Oh, wait, it's just Alaska.
Where's the hysterical media reports about the 25 m tsunami? Followed by the embarrassing admission that it was a 25 cm wave, but with a disclaimer that math and science (and measurement units) are part of the white patriarchy.
right up there with the 25 m sea level rise in the next century, which turned out to be 25 mm.
"Early birth control advocate Margaret Sanger's 'harmful connections to the eugenics movement' have led Planned Parenthood of Greater New York to remove her name from its Manhattan clinic."
What?! This is outrageous!
I learned in college that Sanger was probably the only noteworthy white person in American history who wasn't racist. Her alleged racism is merely a myth invented by people who literally want to turn this country into The Handmaid's Tale by denying access to abortion care.
Of course as a Koch / Reason left-libertarian I still support taxpayer money for Planned Parenthood. But I'm extremely disappointed they did this. Hopefully they'll reconsider.
#UnCancelMargaretSanger
But birth control reduces the labor pool. Isn't that bad for Koch?
Nope. Birth control leaves more room for housing much cheaper illegal immigrant workers. Koch win!
The labor pool is only good if its composed of immigrants, not native born. Say what you want about obl, the bastard is consistant
(As I nearly always am for @SenatorSinema's aesthetic choices, if not for her policy preferences.)
Parenthetical throat clearing, on point.
And the colors don’t even match. Fail.
But can I "sneeze" into her wig?
Only if you are Joe Biden.
that hair is blue, not any shade of green
President Donald Trump has been trying to peddle his own version of fake reality, if not fake news, by repeatedly claiming that the recent rise in COVID-19 cases is only due to more testing...
Mostly? Partially? Somewhat?
I love how people are mad at the startup and not the homeowners and landlords who made building apartments near jobs illegal.
COVID should have taught startups that you don't need to be located in any urban center. Do yourselves and your employees a favor and eschew San Fran.

Letting the public AND the virus dictate policy.
What a grand swell idea.
What can go wrong?
2020 only made me loathe humans more.
Will Trump pardon Ghislaine Maxwell?
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/21/trump-ghislaine-maxwell-376820
“The president has nothing to say about a gun-toting madman who just murdered the son of a federal judge. But he takes time out of his press conference to send well wishes to a woman accused of trafficking teenager girls for sex,” the prosecutor told POLITICO.
She knows too much.
Maybe that Epstein was suicided in prison is why he said anything.
You know, it could be that.
Maybe. Just maybe.
Yeah, he will pardon her real soon. Jesus Christ you are fucking moron. Trump never went to the Island. You have him confused with Bill Clinton whose excuse is that the he was banging Maxwell.
You guys sure do have selective outrage and paranoia. The president just wished a known human trafficker well twice. That doesn't give you pause? You are still a fan of the guy who wishes pedophile human traffickers well? How low can you go?
I appreciate it when your posts accurately reflect the proper level of drooling-stupid madness that is Progressive politics. Then I don't feel compelled to call you out as a socialist shitstain.
Seriously? Asking for an explanation when the president is wishing a known pedophile-human-trafficker-blackmailer well is drooling stupid to you?
So are you a pedophile, or just a fan of pedophiles?
Epstein wasn't a "known pedophile" until 2010 when he was convicted. Trump kicked him out of his hotel and stopped having any contact with him in 2000.
Everyone knows that. So, why don't you stop fucking lying and just go die and do the gene pool a favor.
Oh really?
"I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side." Trump, 2002
And there goes John, wishing death on people. Aren't you a little old for that sort of immaturity? Aren't you supposedly a little too patriotic to be wishing fellow Americans, perhaps especially American combat veterans death?
You know Trump is a fraud. But you are mad at me for making you think about it.
....anyway, still no thoughts on Trump wishing (now known since 2010) human trafficker of little girls well?
If you can't denounce this, then I must assume you are a fan of pedophiles.
Serious question... Is there a conspiracy you don't support? You support more conspiracies than QNon could dream of.
read the mueller report. Just read it.
read the mueller report
So that's a no then?
Also, I've read the Mueller Report, several times, and it doesn't say what you and your nutty friends pretend that it does.
"And there goes John, wishing death on people."
And there goes Jeff, outing himself again.
He wished him well? Oh noes. He also kicked him out of his hotel. Epstein is a Democratic scandal. Trump has nothing to do with it. It was Bill Clinton who traveled to the Island without the secret service multiple times. Trump has nothing to do with this no matter how much you lie pretending otherwise you drooling moron.
Except Epstein died in Trump's custody, and had a long 20 year friendship with Epstein. The best you can do for this scandal is "bOtH sIdeS".
"Except Epstein died in Trump’s custody"
How the fuck...
Seriously, do you even realize what you're typing or are you just banging away at the keys?
Trump is a prison? Or did you mean he was holding Epstein in the bathroom at Trump tower, Jeff?
Christians will even wish their own murder well. wishing someone well is not always a sign of agreeing.
Does Trump have a history of wishing people well who he doesn't like? Would you describe Trump as Christian in his actions, ever?
Let's check some Trump reactions:
Hillary: "Lock her up!"
Never Trumpers: "Human Scum!"
Mexicans: "Rapists. Animals!"
Human Trafficker of girls for rape: "I wish her well, really I do."
Cmon now. Stop the gymnastics routine.
Hillary Clinton wished Kathy Shelton well?
He is commenting that he hopes she doesn't suddenly "commit suicide" in physically impossible ways with nobody somehow seeing anything.
Man you are dense.
damikesc has his new Trump decoder ring!
Or watched the video and understands sarcasm.
Your sources appear to be Vox and leftist think tank transcripts.
Sarcasm? Jesse, your total lack of a sense of humor is well known around here, but even you can see that is not sarcasm. He repeated the well wishes twice. He has also said the he does not kid. There is no backdoor to sneak out of.
Trump has kind words for human traffickers, but not for American veterans.
Cult of human scum.
Bill Clinton....nah, again, no need to damage my brain cells dealing with a monkey like you.
And my "sources" are not vox or leftist in the slightest.
But nice attempt to use the old fasc' handbook: "step 3. discredit the source if the information is indisputable and can't be otherwise twisted to fit the narrative."
Your sources are Media Matters talking point emails and shit you read on Twitter.
Don't pretend that you have an independent mind. You're not fooling anyone.
Your projection is as blatant as tony's at this point, espresso
OMFG, find one of the 50 other legitimate reasons to criticize him. This is stupid.
A reporter asked Trump about his contacts to her and he responded to the question. "I wish her well" is essentially his way of saying, "It's not something that concerns me."
He said the same to Kim Jung Un when there were rumors on his death. He said the same to Tillerson after he fired him. He said the same about the British ambassador after he got the guy fired. He said the same about Bernie Sanders when he raised a bunch of money.
Simply put, it is a throw away line that Trump uses ALL THE TIME when he essentially writes people off.
You understand that because you are not retarded. Jeff, being retarded, can't understand that.
The president just wished a known human trafficker well twice. That doesn’t give you pause?
R.O.F.L.M.A.O.!!!11!!!ELEVENTY1!!
But he takes time out of his press conference to send well wishes to a woman accused of trafficking teenager girls for sex,” the prosecutor told POLITICO.
Took time out?
He answered the questions members of the media asked him.
And they wonder why they get called 'fake news'.
Those three seconds he spent speaking those words was key.
Biden continues to say all the right things.
Joe Biden, speaking to a notable Muslim American advocacy organization Monday, promised that if elected, he'll have Muslims in his administration and said he intends to work with Congress to pass anti-hate crime legislation.
If there's one thing this country needs, it's more Muslims in government. They're far less dangerous than Christians.
#LibertariansAgainstIslamophobia
Although Islam is the worst of the Abrahamic religions (low bar there) the fact that a politician is pandering is hardly news.
What don't you like about Islam, Mr. Buttplug? You're aware that American Muslims tend to vote Democrat, right? And don't forget the important #Resistance work of Muslims like Sarsour, Omar, Ellison, and Tlaib.
Religion is a form of bondage, son. Be free.
Why did you use the phrase "son"? Are you sexist? Why not "daughter", or better yet "child"?
OBL is famously non binary. And SPB refuses to acknowledge that. Typical bitter clinger.
To be fair, OBL has committed the great wrong of assumption while chastising “Mr. Buttplug”. Nothing but shame all around in that exchange.
It’s truly a sad day when liberal progressives can’t stay true and consistent with their woke messaging.
Religion is a form of bondage
I suspect you are not doing either of those correctly...
Aside from all the genocide, child marriage, spousal abuse, female gential mutilation, murdering of gays, raping of young boys, participation in slave trade, and denial of basic human rights to women and minorities?
Aside from all that, there's nothing not to like. Islam is a religion of peace.
Peace at the tip of a sword (or suicide vest)?
"worst of the Abrahamic religions"
As soon as someone lumps a myriad of vastly different monotheistic philosophies together as "Abrahamic religions", you know your talking to an idiot who picked up everything he knows about theology from YouTube videos.
Maybe YouTube videos. Or maybe King's College London, which offers a course titled Abrahamic Religions In History.
A historical analysis of Levantine monotheism isn't what a fedora-wearing Dawkinite like Nuttplug is referring to.
Granted, but you attacked the phrase itself. There's nothing wrong with saying "Abrahamic religions". That's what they're called.
No, I attacked the idea Nuttplug was regurgitating that there's a common set of philosophical or doctrinal ideas across Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Druze, Bahais and Rastafarians.
In reality there's not even common philosophies within each religion, let alone altogether. For example Arianism and the Anabaptists or Sufism and Salafism are planets apart.
"Abrahamic religions" is really just a ahistorical neologism first created for encouraging interfaith dialogue, and picked up by lazy atheists who want to handwave away 55% of all religious beliefs without working for it.
No, I attacked the idea Nuttplug was regurgitating that there’s a common set of philosophical or doctrinal ideas across Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Druze, Bahais and Rastafarians.
He said no such thing. He said there are a group of faiths called Abrahamic (there are), and he doesn't like them. And I really hate having to defend that asshole's words against mischaracterization, so thanks for that. You seem to be attacking an idea because it is a personal bugbear for you, not because Buttplug actually stated it here.
“Abrahamic religions” is really just a ahistorical neologism first created for encouraging interfaith dialogue, and picked up by lazy atheists who want to handwave away 55% of all religious beliefs without working for it.
And there you go, attacking the phrase again in the same damn breath as saying "I'm not attacking the phrase."
Officers entered the common area of his apartment building and placed a camera disguised as a smoke detector on the wall across the hallway from the front door of his unit.
Something about yelling fire in a crowded security theater.
FALSELY yelling fire. An important distinction.
Are you trying to cancel "see something, say something"?
I think the police version is "see something, shoot someone".
A bipartisan majority of registered voters strongly support state mandates that would fine or jail individuals if they fail to wear a mask in public...
Even if those individuals are POC?
Even if those individuals are 'protected' by the Americans with Disabilities Act?
Funny thing about all these "cloth face covering" mandates, while they claim to include an exemption for those who cannot wear a :cloth face covering", they never include a protocol for obtaining an exemption.
For instance:
" As a point of clarification, the Mayor’s Executive Order requiring Face Coverings is not an enforceable mandate. As such, there are not procedural requirements in place for those individuals who cannot tolerate a face covering for medical, sensory or any other condition which makes it difficult from them to utilize a face covering"
Wait, there's a sensory and even a convenience exemption? So, if I don't like the feel of a facemask and inconveniently leave it at home I'm doubly exempted?
Masks are inherently racist in that it makes it harder to tell if someone is in a 'protected class' and they may get judged based on the content of their character.
Does anybody have a good source for relatively current crime statistics?
There are two major databases: 1) the FBI's uniform crime reports, which are the number of crimes reported by law enforcement agencies, and 2) The Bureau of Justice Statistics survey of crime victims. In both cases, the most recent data available appears to be from 2018, which isn't the time period of interest.
I'm seeing crime statistics being reported by liberal news outlets from cities all over the country. Some of them don't bother citing their references. I suspect they may be getting them from their local police departments. It seems absurd to me that reported crime statistics would lag four years.
Four years behind? Are they or are they not using computers?
Four years behind?
Good enough for government work, Ken.
Three years, whatever . . .
Somebody's emailing somebody a spreadsheet.
They don't need to get every town of 500 people or less. Just do the big MSAs. It doesn't take three years.
It doesn't take 3 days, if they bother to try.
Do you want the statistics now or do you want them right?
Given the number of 'verbal assaults committed by unknown persons' that get counted as hate crimes you're almost certainly going to get neither but it's not like 53% of homicides clear themselves every year, sheesh!
Well, the fact is, that if they do not cite a verifiable source, they are not news outlets. They are propagandists.
Unregistered agents for a certain political party.
Well, they're lefty rags, and they're quoting statistics that you wouldn't think they'd want to quote.
Why are murders and arsons spiking twice as high as normal in the wake of the George Floyd protests?
Um . . . well it doesn't have anything to do with the police becoming reluctant to interact with anybody for fear of being accused of somerthing.
And there isn't any reason why this should justify President Trump's involvement--the liberal rags know that!
So, it must be something else causing the spike in violent crime, and it's probably a reaction to all the racism. Why, people are so sick of racism, they're killing each other--that must be it!
A better Leftist argument would be that Trump and the Republicans' intransigence at signing another stimulus bill, has left the out-of-work poor with no other options than to rob and steal to get food.
(That's complete bullshit, BTW)
AOCunt did argue that New York's rise in crime was due to people stealing bread to feed their kids, so they're way ahead of you there.
She SO needs to move to Venezuela.
anger at a divisive president, no doubt.
not being paid to stay home and forced not to work.
"Does anybody have a good source for relatively current crime statistics?"
National? No. Heyjackass.com appears to try very hard to get Chicago shootings and homicides correct though.
As to why it takes so long, why do you think that each of the municipalities and agencies that report to the FBI for the UCR, are using a consistent format? Or are even submitting a compiled statistical list at all? I think it highly likely that some form of raw data and synopses are being sent instead. All of which takes time to read, compile, and collate.
Try finding welfare statistics. Governments like to hide things.
Not national but some current local stuff at CrimeMapping, if the location in question participates:

Earlier today, Reason ran an article with the headline:
"Trump Deploys Lawlessness Against Lawlessness'
It was a typical article with minimal facts and maximum assumption.
And yet, here we are at 4 years of crickets regarding an utterly illegal attempt to invalidate the election of 2016.
Yes, Reason hasn't written anything about Mueller or Russia or an investigation or anything, in four years.
About the insane abuses involved? No, not too much. They've written more about Portland than a multi year coup d'etat attempt.
When the texts of an FBI agent are more interesting to you than your president begging Russia for help getting elected...you might be a goddam traitor.
...yeah, I'm done feeding the troll. You're too stupid to be talked to.
^ traitor.
^ stooge.
You already declared yourself a fascist. Why are you still hanging around here? This place is for people who are into things like individual liberty.
I'd let you get away with calling other people "fascist", DOL, if you weren't such a hate-filled, goose-stepping, authoritarian fuck, yourself.
And this is indeed the place for people who are into individual liberty, so why don't you fuck back off to the Democratic Underground where you can circle jerk with your censorious, cancel culture pals.
You are the one who telling him what to do...
Or, in your case, collective grievance.
So what are you still doing here?
DoL....really? This is your best retort?
*remembers he's talking to a monkey*
Aren't you a cute little monkey? Want a banana?
Weird how it points directly at DoL, no?
Well... not against it anyways. Except a much smaller handful than the bagful supporting the investigation.
Who cares about "Reason" ignoring the attempted coup? I mean, who even bothers to read "Reason"'s liberaltarian trash anymore? Aren't we all here just for the comments?
Yes. Yes we are.
yo.
I was just thinking the same, I remember being able to enjoy the articles. I might not always agree with them but they usually (well other than Shikha) had some good points. Now they seem to be just a milder version of the Times. What has happened to the writers, I recall when Nick and Matt used to regularly appear on Gutfeld’s Red Eye. It seems that Stossel and Skenazy are the only consistent ones. By the what has happened to Shikha, have not seen an article since the 8th.
Deported.
Fled COVID death to India, advocating keeping diseased shithole Americans out.
Yep.
just for the comments
...and Stossel and Volk, but otherwise, yeah.
Stossel's preaching to the choir here. He's a great man, a superior news reporter, and a thorough libertarian, but his stuff's maybe a little...basic? For "Reason"'s audience, anyway.
Don't forget Remy though. That guy's a national treasure. And Bagge.
Oh my god, can we stop talking about Trump all the time?
Early birth control advocate Margaret Sanger's "harmful connections to the eugenics movement" have led Planned Parenthood of Greater New York to remove her name from its Manhattan clinic.
When cancel culture comes for the leftists.
There can be only one.
You'll notice they don't get rid of the eugenics in action, just the person who reminds them that it is eugenics.
the same thing is happening to John Muir at the Audubon Society
it is good to see popular social networks apps taking instant action against false and fake news
Whatever provisions our freedom of the press is to have (libel, copyright, true threats, etc.), it's unclear to me why a libertarian must insist that parties operating on the Internet must be entitled to the broadest possible shield against them. We have already decided that a free society may hold publishers to these provisions; why should libertarians be committed to calling as few parties "publishers" as possible? I think some of these things beggar belief. They could plausibly be viewed as special shields granted by government to the common law of our society.
"...why should libertarians be committed to calling as few parties “publishers” as possible?.."
Sarc or stupidity?
Publishers generate content and are thereby liable for it.
Wanna sue the owner of a wall where people pin posters?
Is the owner of that wall going to leave defamatory postings up, while taking others down?
The feds are fighting to treat protest press like hostile forces.
Want more government, get more government.
They are "mostly peaceful" fist. Just because you throw rocks and Molotov cocktails at the police doesn't mean you are not "peaceful".
Those organized protestors on Chicago with the black umbrellas to block views of those throwing iced water bottles, rocks, and fireworks are all peaceful. Ignore the dozens of cops injured.
a small percentage of the protestors are committing crimes. the rest are just cheering them on, so they're mostly peaceful.
But not THAT government.

BLM speaker, "there is a common enemy, the white man, so we need to get rid of them".
The 99% of BLM supporters who are genocidal lunatics continue to make the other 1% look bad.
Also, man did Napoleon Dynamite end up in a bad place. Poor kid.
The UK is us without the inconvenience of feigning loyalty to a written constitution. We're always just a few steps behind their stage of decay. Behold our future!
Sadly, what starts there often comes here. Tony Blair was in many ways the UK Obama. Thatcher was ahead of Reagan by a year and so forth.
That said, even the UK rejected Corbyn's Labor party, which is what the Democratic Party is becoming. So, there is hope.
So, what will the US "Brexit" look like?
Electing Trump is supposed to have been the US's Brexit.
I thought our slide into totalitarian leftism was going to be slower.
Fixing the Progressive Era’s steady march through government, academics, and culture is going to take violent conflict. I’ve seen that for 10 years, but Trump, in conjunction with things like Brexit and defeat of regime change in Syria, 5 years ago presented the (exceedingly thin) opportunity to right course against the growing incompetence of the “elite” global cabal without too much bloodshed.
But coming so close to completion, and doing so because of their increasingly decadent incompetence, they couldn’t handle reality slapping them in the face. They snapped.
I was worried the opportunity to actually have it out would never arise. Modern Civilization takes care of so well, and the middle class especially having not enough but having too much to risk it, and we’re (or we were) quite comfortable. Resistance to the Progressive march, controlling almost all avenues of influence, would never reach the critical mass needed to stop it.
But it looks like the Left’s psychotic breakdown is bringing things to a head.
It’ll be painful and horrific, but that’s the path of recovery and growth.
Maybe we will have it out and force some level of resolution.
But since the Left Coast and the NE US are still connected to the rest, I would say it failed.
Texas and Arizona secede. Maybe South Carolina. The other red states are already too woke.
I'd say it's more like 99% of the supporters are deluded dupes who don't quite realize what the real movement fanatics think. I guess it depends on what you mean by "BLM supporters".
Sure Zeb. just like 99% of Germans didn't realize what Hitler really believed. That is nonsense and you know it. These people make no secret about what they believe. And no one can claim not to know it. The people who support BLM support and believe this stuff. They are just unwilling to admit it in front of anyone not in the movement.
Few of the useful idiots are claiming "not to know" that BLM is an explicitly Marxist organization. It's too obvious to feign ignorance. Their protest instead is (as LP presidential candidate Jo Jorgensen claimed) that black lives matter as a movement is some airy sentiment about police reform, and can't be tied to any "organization" (scare quotes hers) that may share the name.
Yes, they are a psychotic collectivist cult
This is good! You actually linked to someone being a dick ... at an actual Black Lives Matter organized event.
That is every single BLM person. And stop lying and pretending you don't agree with every word the guy says. He is who you leftist pieces of shit are. Stop lying about it.
Yeah, I know. Usually I have to post some story about someone with tenuous or non-existent links to BLM, but this time I hit pay dirt!
Had to go to England to do it, though.
Oh, and sorry at losing my temper and insinuating you are a leftist with no evidence.
LOL, by golly, there’s a theme there, isn’t there? I guess I post strong, nay anger-filled, opinions with flimsy basis quite often. Hey, nobody’s perfect.
Hi Jason!
More bad economic news.
Reason.com's benefactor Charles Koch only earned $491,000,000 yesterday.
Which means he's still barely in the top 20 richest people on the planet. Drumpf's high-tariff / low-immigration policies continue to have disastrous results.

Hydroxychloroquine could save up to 100,000 people from COVID. Oh well, those people are just going to have to die for the greater good of "Orange Man Bad".
Turd hardest hit.
And Bailey.
More and more the obsession with vaccine lessens.
Between treatments and the fact the virus isn't lethal, why?
Ok, offer it to the public but I'd be stunned it could lead to vacc. papers. We never did it with the flu and influenza remains far greater a threat especially to kids.
because there is no vaccine and isn't likely to be one
And everyone under the age of 30 is pretty much going to contract it survivably if not asymptomatically.
We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm...
And clear which side of the political spectrum will get this enforcement.
Alright, how many of you fucking peanuts are QAnon? Fess up. I'm guessing 12-15 here, Rufus, you're that stupid.
You Qanon is some kind of conspiracy theory. It has nothing to do with child porn you idiot. So, there is no reason for you to be interested in it.
Um, it has a lot to do with pedophilia.
That is right. I forgot about that. So, yeah, I am sure shreek is an expert.
I mean, John Podesta is almost certainly a pedophile and Chrissy Teigen, who with her husband John Legend rub elbows with D bigwigs a surprising amount, tweets about sex with children A LOT. Then there's the whole Epstein situation.
But the fact that these people are prominent in the Clinton-Obama social circle means there's nothing to see.
How ridiculous to think that people who believe they're in a special social class and above the petty laws and morality of the common folk could possibly do horrible things to children.
I'm sure regular kinky sex is totes enough for them.
No, I'm totes sure they would never do sick shit to transgress the bounds of common decency
"...Chrissy Teigen, who with her husband John Legend rub elbows with D bigwigs a surprising amount, tweets about sex with children A LOT. "
What the fuck?!
Right?
Have you seen the tweets?
Here's just one:

The Q crowd definitely takes frequent dives into the absurd, and get sidetracked by often fraudulent sensationalism, but the things they do dig up are in many ways inexplicable outside the context of referring to real wrongdoing
That's....a really odd thing to joke about, the way Teigen wrote it.
Perhaps it---or at least, hebephillia---is endemic in their circles?
Seems to be the case.
There's more
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/thick-blue-line-surge-in-support-for-cops-just-2-in-10-back-defund-scheme
It’s not just a white thing. Rasmussen said that 57% of black people oppose defunding police in their home community. For whites, it's 69%, and for other minorities, it is 62%.
When the backlash comes and we end up with cops much worse than we had, you think BLM and the rest of the Marxists assholes who co-opted and destroyed the cause of police reform just when it was starting to make some headway.
Watching the Chinese burn all their documents before they're kicked out of Houston is kind of funny.
We've been accustomed to seeing various governments use consulates as centers for espionage since before the Cold War, and we obviously do that ourselves.
The difference would be if China were using their consulate in Houston as a means to run espionage operations against private industry--that has no connection whatsoever to the defense industry.
There is no good reason why the Trump administration should tolerate the Chinese using their consulate as a means to enrich senior Communist Party officials by stealing intellectual property from private companies just to enrich themselves. If any of the hacking the Trump administration has been talking about originated from the Chinese consulate in Houston, it's like they were stealing cars and running a chop shop.
What kind of espionage operation would they be running in Houston other than industrial espionage?
I don't know.
BBQ recipes?
Let 'em have that shitty Texas bbq.
Social justice funding...
"Cultural"? Trying to get the progressives to become useful idiots.
Chinese universities tend to stress 'process philosophy.' There are similarities to Daoism, which I probably find most attractive of the world's religions.
According to Wikipedia:
Process philosophy, a 20th-century school of Western philosophy that emphasizes the elements of becoming, change, and novelty in experienced reality; it opposes the traditional Western philosophical stress on being, permanence, and uniformity.
Check the works of Alfred North Whitehead if you are curious. Not an easy read, I assure you.
Rather than Whitehead, you may get more out of a lecture by Rich Hickey, the designer of the Lisp-like Clojure language. The lecture is mostly about how ill--conceived Object Oriented languages are, but he does touch on Whitehead's ideas which are a big influence on his thinking.

"What kind of espionage operation would they be running in Houston other than industrial espionage?"
Monitoring American oil refining. Counting incoming oil tankers and their cargo, where they go, how long they stay. Recording such activity and reporting it back to analysts.
Medical espionage. The Medical Center in Houston is gigantic. No idea if they got bit by the Covid-vaccine related computer hacking or not.
Further, Houston is a hub for large amounts of trademark-infringing imported goods. A lot from China. Luxury fakes, IOW.
Yes. Industrial espionage.
For a given value of "industrial."
NASA and Ellington Field are nearby, for potential national security related spying. Go up to DFW or over to San Antonio, and there's military/national security related espionage targets galore. Are there PRC consulates in either of those two areas?
"Further, Houston is a hub for large amounts of trademark-infringing imported goods."
I doubt very much that the consulate has anything to do with importing fake luxury goods. The counterfeit business is run by criminal gangs based in China who are independent of the Chinese government and avoid them.
Nothing in China is independent of CCP leaders' either participation, or acquiescence for a fee. It doesn't strike me as unlikely at all that some consulate officials had importing fakes, via the diplomatic pouch, as a side hustle.
"Nothing in China is independent of CCP leaders’ either participation, or acquiescence"
You'd be surprised. China is a big country.
" It doesn’t strike me as unlikely at all that some consulate officials had importing fakes"
Fakes are low quality and not worth the effort. The way the counterfeit business works in China is not as you imagine it to be. The so-called fakes are usually produced in the same factories on the same production lines as the real McCoy. These production runs however are not authorized by the factory owners who remain unaware of what's going on.
"via the diplomatic pouch, as a side hustle."
Counterfeiting in China is a huge business, run, as I mentioned, by criminal gangs. Their supply chains rely on container shipping. Not diplomatic pouches.
Wow. You are truly an expert on everything. Haha.
A haha is a kind of ditch that surrounds stately homes. It's deep and wide enough to prevent cattle and sheep from crossing it to graze on the lawns and gardens. Also, unlike a wall or hedge that would accomplish the same goal, it doesn't block the view of the surrounding area from the house.
In related news:
"More than a dozen scientific papers published by Chinese researchers in internationally peer-reviewed journals are being withdrawn after an investigation this month highlighted the apparent reuse of images across more than 100 academic articles, amid increased concern about scientific integrity raised by the fight against the coronavirus.
Earlier this month, a report by Elisabeth Bik, an image-analysis expert and former researcher at the Stanford School of Medicine, found that six global journals had published 121 scientific papers that appeared to reuse identical sets of images, despite covering different topics over a four-year period. The authors hailed from roughly 50 cities across China.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/scientific-journal-pulls-over-a-dozen-papers-by-chinese-researchers-11594743872
Back before the internet (and before colleges could run every paper you turn in through a database to check it for plagiarism against all the other papers that have been turned in over the last ten years as well as everything available on Google) . . .
It used to be that there were a few ads in the back of Rolling Stone, where you could call someone on the phone and pay $50, or whatever, to have them send you a term paper. They could send the same term paper on Oedipus Rex to a hundred different students, and unless they both happened to be turned in to the same professor, there was no way to tell that you'd bought the paper from a paper mill.
Looks like some enterprising souls in China have taken up the same practice--only they're doing it for legitimate PhDs, and they're doing it on subjects like cancer research. They write up different experiments with different verbiage, but I guess they used the same format with the same images over and over. And, of course, the paper in question isn't being written by the person who performed the experiments. In fact, there's no indication that the experiments were ever performed at all.
Plenty of these papers made their way into prestigious scientific journals, with all sorts of consequences for the scientific community and people who use these journals to guide their own research. I suppose the Chinese government is learning that when you give people money to write research papers, they'll give you the papers you paid for. Whether the research is worth the paper its written on is another question entirely.
"I suppose the Chinese government is learning that when you give people money to write research papers, they’ll give you the papers you paid for. Whether the research is worth the paper its written on is another question entirely."
Yet, according to our scientific community (many of whom depend in part on Chinese funding, or work with Chinese nationals on this or that research ), the Chinese virology labs couldn't possibly be run with the same lack of integrity and outright falsehood.
Plagiarism in Chinese universities and other Asian nations is much more common and much less stigmatized than it is in the west. It's been the case for a long time. That's why western institutions are more prestigious and tend to attract serious scholars from Asia rather than the other way around.
In asian countries its not unusual for parent to give gift to teachers , professors on behalf of their children for better grades.
Not unusual in Beverley Hills either.
In China September 10 is Teacher's Day. Gifts for teachers is de rigeur. (expected behavior) The Chinese treat teachers with a similar respect Americans accord to veterans.
One of the consequences of this respect is that teachers have a lot of influence over the academic careers of their smarter students. I think electrical engineering is the most prestigious field of study and the most difficult program in the university to enter. Teachers will exert enormous pressure on students to enter the field, regardless of the student's own desires and inclinations. A teacher with a history of having students successfully entering electrical engineering will be looked on as successful and more deserving.
I hope they give their respected teachers better medical care than we give our respected veterans.
Yup that's the only reason
/sarc btw
"that has no connection whatsoever to the defense industry."
Isn't Houston the center of American oil refining? My quick search on google indicates it is. Without refined oil there would be no defense industry. Or any other kind of industry.
also what do invading armies do, they either destroy the local oil supplies or take it over.
One of the interesting facts about WWII that stuck with me was how technically advanced but materially impoverished the Nazis were. The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first jet fighter ever and was introduced near the end of the war. Yet the fuel to fly these beasts of Nazi death was so rare and precious that the planes had to be towed out to the runway by teams of cattle.
"We’ve been accustomed to seeing various governments use consulates as centers for espionage since before the Cold War, and we obviously do that ourselves.

The Soviets did not limit themselves to merely military related economic espionage. Bit them on the ass when they stole the wrong pipeline valve control software, and several giant NG pipelines went kablooey.
Wasn't it the Ruskies that reportedly wore soft soled shoes to collect the metal filings when they toured the Rolls Royce Merlin Engine factory during the WWII era?
That's from a spy novel, I believe. Japanese scientists employed by Ajinomoto visited the Archer Daniels Midland facilities back in the 1990s. They swept surfaces with handkerchiefs hoping, in vain as it turned out, to collect samples of bacteria related to the production of lysine, a growth inducer widely used in agriculture.

Remember the Soviet Shuttle?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buran_programme
The Russians stole the technical information and plans to start their own shuttle program in the 80's. The information was unclassified, so we might have just given it to them if they had asked, but since they were such dicks about it, we fed them false information on purpose.
The Buran made exactly 1 trip, and suffered so much damage that it almost didn't make it back in 1 piece. Cost billions of dollars and was a huge failure.
A congressional measure to help demilitarize U.S. police forces has failed.
Despite their otherwise zealous efforts to strip state power from the dangerous KKK-SS maniac Donald Trump, it appears this one has failed.
This is because they are much smarter than the GOP dumbasses, despite what many like to think. The Republicans actually repeatedly voted to repeal Obamacare when Obama was in office. So when they failed once they actually had the chance, it looked so nakedly bad that a nation that still overwhelmingly opposed it turned overwhelmingly for it overnight, figuring it must be in fact essential. Now it will never go away. (Not even if this country splits in two, as the ascendant views on the Right are very receptive to a strong "social safety net.")
Not every Republican did that. The House voted to repeal it. All but a couple of Republicans in the Senate did so. But it was just enough to stop it. John McCain campaigned for re-election promising to vote to repeal only to on his death bed tell voters of Arizona to fuck off and vote against repeal. I am not really sure you can blame that on any one but McCain. I suppose the GOP bears some responsibility for allowing someone of McCain's ilk into the party in the first place. Ultimately, the majority of the responsibility for that lies with McCain, Collins and Murkowski and no one else. Luckily Collin's career was ended last week in the primaries. McCain is rotting in hell. So there is that.
McCain is rotting in hell. So there is that.

Biden: You Know What We Need? More Islam in the Schools
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/robert-spencer/2020/07/21/biden-you-know-what-we-need-more-islam-in-the-schools-n669103
Portland is still engulfed by antifa violence (as the Democrats side with the violent rioters), America’s history and heritage is under direct and unapologetic assault, covid hysteria is still hamstringing the nation’s economic life and prosperity, and on Monday, Joe Biden offered an all-purpose remedy: “One of the things I think is important, I wish we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith.” I’ll bet you’re wishing you had thought of that.
The Presidential debates are going to be the greatest train wreck in history. It is not even so much that Biden will commit "gaffes" in the traditional sense. It is that he is going to say just bizarre shit like this. I don't see how the Democrats let him debate Trump but I also don't see how they get away with avoiding it. If he doesn't debate, the country will see it as an admission that he is senile and not up to the job and he almost certainly loses. If he does debate, he might end up in a home afterwards.
But if the debates are done remotely, expect to see voice-over dubbing when Biden speaks. The only question is whether it will be high quality dubbing, or 1960s Japanese monster movie dubbing.
60s Japanese Monster movie dubbing with AOC's voice.
Speed Racer level dubbing.
Fun fact, the people that bought Speed Racer didn't speak Japanese and didn't want to pay for a translator, so they just made up new dialog totally unrelated to what aired in Japan.
I didn't know that and that is awesome. There is a Woody Allen Movie from the 1960s called What's Up Tiger Lilly where they bought the rights to a Japanese James Bond knockoff and then redubbed it in English making it a comedy. It is MST 3000 level funny. You can hurt yourself laughing at that movie.
The Girls of Kamare. A 'detoured' Situationist International film adapted from a Japanese soft core porn flick.

With deep fake capabilities the only way I would give such a debate any legitimacy is if it were moderated by Conan".
They have to replace him after he's officially the nominee and after he has a VP, but before the debates.
He's got a point, to be fair. Islamic law would certainly have a solution to the current lack of respect for life and property.
Look for Islamism to utterly explode in popularity, especially among the young, in the coming woke-ruled America. The ideology is too dependent on performative self-hatred to ever turn against Muslims, despite the fact that they have never remotely been an oppressed people. So it will be the perfect way for young people to be rebellious. (We already hear that nobody in Cambridge was alarmed at the Tsarnaev bros' turn to fanaticism because Islam was such a common thing for youth to dabble in.) Once there, they will discover a sense of true spirituality, purpose, brotherhood, and actual potential for ordering a society, which wokeism will clearly even to a young person be only a pathetic facsimile of.
I don't know if I would say explode. Islam is still too alien to American culture and thought. But, it's appeal will definitely grow for the reasons you give. For the same reason, evangelical Christianity will explode among the youth as well. Both Islam and Evangelical Christianity give answers and a way out of guilt and self loathing. People are going to be looking for that. I think the great awokening has about peaked.
"I think the great awokening has about peaked."
There is no peak woke
Christianity (I would say Eastern Orthodoxy and to some extent traditional Catholicism will have their day too) will certainly make a significant comeback. But I still think Islam has a bit of an edge.
First, Christianity's leaders are still reeling from the unexpected crisis of losing strength in our political culture, whereas until relatively recently America looked bulletproof. Leadership has its own "swamp problem" and has not been forceful esp. to recent developments amidst all this soul searching.
More importantly, I think you underestimate the importance of indoctrination and youth psychology. The indoctrination (which has been very effective) is that America bad, West bad, and the Right Wing KKK 1%er White Male Cishet Prolife Christian etc. still control everything about our society. Many kids will rebel against this, but many more will internalize that Christianity is too "establishment" a way to rebel. Islam will seem at once "cooler" and more exotically rebellious, and at the same time be safer to dip your toe in. Giving kids a way to feel more "rebellious" but ultimately "safe" is the ultimate sweet spot.
Converting to Islam is a way to give the finger to the broader culture. It will appeal to poorer minority groups and the really stupid breed of woke upper class whites. Evangelical Christianity will be the choice of the middle classes black and white. And the crisis you talk about in Christianity is in the mainline denominations. Those are dying because they have been so corrupted they have nothing to offer. The evangelical groups, along with the Orthodox and conservative parts of the Catholic Church have not been corrupted and do have something to offer.
Good points, but in fact I was not talking about them. "Mainline" Protestantism is so obviously and rapidly dying it's barely even worth talking about. Catholicism now outnumbers Anglicanism in church attendance in England once again at long last, for example. (The ratio was still absurd the other way round only a few decades ago.) In the USA a core of the old denominations will survive, under the old name or a schism, that takes its faith seriously. They will have plenty of old school e.g. Methodists, Episcopalians, etc., and some young white people but will have huge amonts of e.g. African and Carribean immigrants.
Catholicism cannot proceed quite like this, for structural reasons. And it very much has always had a wokeness and liberal problem and does now as well. It will eventually get to the stage of smaller (yet growing), more pious church, with all so-called "liberals" finding better things to do with their time. But it will be an ugly ride. (If their situation was so hopeful why are they being burnt and they are not denouncing this as an attack on them?)
Also, the Southern Baptists are very much struggling with a wokeness problem, and their leadership is too insecure about their past to facially defend themselves. Look to this denomination, now losing membership, to collapse and/or schism into a purer core and doomed peripherary if it cannot defeat the cancer from within.
Leftists corrupt and destroy every institution they touch.
...Also can you fully blame them? Many will think, consiously or unconsciously, Christianity was the dominant religion in this country. It had its chance to defend its civilization. It failed; apparently it wasn't up to the task.
Islam exploded in popularity in the African Great Lakes after Catholicism, in areas where it had once dwarfed Islam something like 100 to 1, failed to transcend race during the time of the Hutu-Tutsi genocides.
Christianity is expanding in Africa while Islam is in decline. Oddly, Islam is in decline everywhere but Western Europe.
I don't think Christianity will get blamed so much as the secular left's absolute hatred of it will cause disillusioned leftists to look elsewhere.
Yes. I shouldn't overromanticize Islam as capable of surviving late modernity. Its whole traditional area is a ticking time bomb of implosion. Christianity once again ascendent in Africa; I just meant to talk about the specific very local Hutu-Tutsi situation and what happens when a religion is perceived to have been in the drivers' seat in a society and looks like it wasn't up to the task.
Oddly enough, I think it will be in a certain sense dispiriting to many cultural conservatives if Islam collapses in its heartland. Its apparent success showed that a faith that takes its own defense seriously could indeed flourish even in a world where the Internet brings the Folsom parade to every camel herder's 5 year old. Lessons could be learned selectively. There will in a certain sense be less hope without it.
Islam is a type of progressivism.
From left to right:
Communism/Socialism - fascism/nazism - Islamism/theocracy
The global socialists have allied with Islam to defeat western values and Christianity.
This goes back to the 60s, initially as a tool of the soviets but quickly embraced by leftist radicals in the west (see their ties to various civil rights and/or domestic terrorist groups).
Both the globalists and Islamists are using the other, but each side thinks they will be dominant after victory over the enlightenment.
My money's on Islamism. It is more resolute, and a convenient vehicle for people in power. Notable will be the first world leader to convert.
Islamism is insane but to quote Walter Slobcheck, at least it is an ethos. Modern leftism has become a nihilistic death cult even more so than Islam.
I don't disagree
Christians are still killing each other over such burning questions as whether the host is the body of Christ or the host merely represents it. Such idiocy is enough to explain its declining appeal.

You're about 500 years late, son.
"You’re about 500 years late, son."
Ireland always was a bit behind the times.
"The global socialists have allied with Islam to defeat western values and Christianity."
This is simply untrue. Look at Communist China's treatment of Uighurs if you doubt me. The main force of the left in the world today deeply distrusts Islam.
Islam also has little attraction to the young people of today. It's got a good reputation on the race issue, as Malcolm X understood and pointed out, but its treatment of women and sexuality is abhorrent. It's theistic, authoritarian, still practices animal sacrifice and doesn't encourage vegetarianism.
Daoism for me is the better candidate for the next big thing in religion. It also has the benefit of meshing seamlessly with the ethos of environmentalism, so attractive to our youngsters. It also has the official Chinese stamp of approval.
"One of the things I think is important, I wish we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith.”
Tony's reaction to this should be amusing.
They can have sex ed. That would be funny

Ellison: Come On, Do You Really Want Police Responding To A Rape?
https://hotair.com/archives/ed-morrissey/2020/07/21/ellison-come-really-want-police-responding-rape/
The answer to this question is a big ya, you betcha, but the absurdity of it escaped Minnesota’s attorney general. In a clip from a discussion on dismantling the police department, Ellison wonders aloud why a rape victim would want the police rather than a social worker to respond. After all, Ellison argues, police officers are only trained in “how to use a firearm,” which is not just untrue but also would be an indictment of his own office and the state of Minnesota.
NPR moderator Yamiche Alcindor and Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) don’t appear terribly impressed with this argument, looking elsewhere when Ellison winds up his pitch with a “Right?”
Everyone focuses on the Presidential race. But, I think the Democrats going full "defund the police" is going to have a much bigger effect on the House. These sorts of local issues like police and law and order are often enormously important in House races.
The other thing that no one is talking about is that if the Democrats somehow manage to convince the country to put Biden in, I think it is very likely a lot of people ticket split and say okay fine we will get rid of Trump to shut you people up but we are giving the Congress to the Republicans. I find it very unlikely that the country will give the Democrats the entire government under any conditions. I still think Trump wins re-election but if he doesn't, the Congress will go Republican. You watch.
My urge has always been to say that either this election or most certainly the next midterms is the last time for a couple decades that the Democrats put up anything but laughable numbers in white Middle America--but after their first trifecta it will be too late to stop them.
Now I'm not so sure. This is closer to prog dystopia than most any had ever imagined. The fact that Biden is not losing by 30 points, that he has anyone in middle America still thinking of him as the old-timey sane kind of Democrat who understood people like us and we wish the party still was, alone suggests that even people who live in it may not understand it quite as well as they confidently thought they did.
Just keep in mind that the "presidential race" is between Trump and the democrat's anointed VP candidate, selected by the party elite based on sex and color, with a minor role played by political leaning.
The VP will have an article 25 certification in her purse at the inauguration.
I am not so sure about that. But if it is true, that destroys Biden's chances. The only way Biden can win is as a sort of dull place filler to calm things down after Trump. You can't run as that if his VP is a lunatic who everyone knows plans to be President.
I have never bought that line of thinking. If the Democrats try that, they will doom Biden. I think the party leaders understand that and don't want to do it but the lunatic activists don't and are demanding it. That is why it is taking Biden so long to pick a VP.
To be fair, Ellison does have a vested interest in police not responding to rape or domestic violence calls.
BBC doing a much better job trying to expose the genocide in China than the US media, including Reason.
https://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2020/07/21/brutal-under-tough-questioning-chinas-ambassador-to-the-uk-cant-explain-video-of-uighurs-n2572731
When asked for comment Mark Cuban stated genocide was a domestic policy.
And good for the NBA, including the Dallas Mavericks, right?
I can understand why the Reasonistas joined the mainstream press in ignoring huge events like Obama's Watergate-style spying, and the genocide of Christians in Egypt and Syria, but I can't understand why they're ignoring the Uyghur holocaust.
Unlike Marionite and Coptic Christians or Trump the Uyghur are not on the left's enemies list, and I don't think Reason's getting NYT or WaPo kickbacks for looking the other way, nor is it worried about a huge Chinese customer base like ABC/Disney.
So what is demonstrably more retarded? That some people believe in a child sex emporium under the US Capitol, or that some people believe a full-on authoritarian progressive-green-socialist government will be good for most people?
Chemjeff believes in the latter and dreams of the former.
14 Wounded in Mass Shooting Outside Chicago Funeral Home as Mayor Lightfoot Publicly Rejects Trump’s Help
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/07/21/14-wounded-in-mass-shooting-outside-chicago-funeral-home-as-mayor-lightfoot-publicly-rejects-trumps-help/
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
Is she gone yet?
BTW 14 wounded in Chicago x $50,000 = $700,000 in medical bills to patch them up. The coroner only charges $800 a pop. Chicago needs better gun control to get those costs down.
Mostly white BLM activists get shouted down after said activists stormed into a restaurant filled with families of all races.
https://www.redstate.com/brandon_morse/2020/07/21/black-lives-matter-dt/
So, here are the statistics for Chicago from 07/13/20 to 07/19/20 as compared to the same week one year ago:
Murder is up 73%
For the year to date, murder is up 51% compared to the same time period in 2019.
https://home.chicagopolice.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/1_PDFsam_CompStat-Public-2020-Week-29.pdf
Here are Portland's crime statistics:
https://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/71978
They report things differently--and they don't have any numbers up for July yet. The interesting one to me is comparing arsons from June 2019 to arsons from June 2020.
June 2019 Arson = 15.
June 2020 Arson = 57, a 280% increase.
How do you ignore that?
How do you blame it on George Floyd?
People rationalize it by talking about George Floyd. Ultimately, we're talking about the economy, the reluctance of the police to interact with anybody unnecessarily, and the willingness of local government to tolerate an outrageous upswing in arson and related crimes and blame their own inaction on President Trump and systemic racism.
The "secret" police that are on video all the time are to blame.
The "secret" police that are on video, that have patches saying what agency they work for, and everyone is talking about. Yeah, those "secret police".
So, much like the whole "People don't care about shootings that happen in Chicago." I'm wondering if the whole "secret police smash-n-grab" crowd has collectively forgotten about the Homan Square black site that was operated pretty soundly under Lightfoot's nose for a decade.
Federal agents 'snatched' a few white protestors and released them hours later? Come back when when it's thousands, held for days without access to phone or counsel, for years on end... and continues to operate.
Ah, yes, the police are going around setting fires to trick the American people into thinking that the trouble in Portland has nothing to do with systemic racism--when racism is what it was about the whole time!
anti-fa should put out a bumper sticker that reads, "Think Globally, Set Fires Locally".

"Libertarian Party presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen is polling at 3 percent, per a new national poll conducted by CNBC/Change Research from July 10–12."
Maybe if the Libertarians rebranded as the Anti-retard Party (or something a bit more positive).
Exactly how many electoral college votes will this yield?
Do you know how a leftist narrative is dying? When the media stops talking about it. Even more documents have been released regarding the Trump/Russia investigation, this time an interview of the Steele Dossier sub source.
https://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2020/07/20/the_primary_subsources_guide_to_russiagate_as_told_to_the_fbi_124516.html
It turns out the entire trump Russia investigation was predicated off a single Steele employee who had a bunch of Russian drinking buddies that would pass rumors back and forth.
Yet for 2 years we were told by Schiff and the Media of all the glowing evidence of collusion.
Look at the bright side. The only people who buy into it still are not quite human. More like monkeys.
'A naked brutality worthy of the Nazis': EDWARD LUCAS on the harrowing evidence of Beijing's concentration camps dedicated to 're-educating' a million or more Muslims
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-8542485/EDWARD-LUCAS-harrowing-evidence-Beijings-concentration-camps-aimed-educating-Muslims.html
Dawn breaks in the crowded prison cell. Not everyone is asleep — conditions are so cramped in the 70-square-yard space that 15 of the 60 inmates have to stand to give others their turn to lie down.
The lack of privacy is absolute. Toilet breaks are rationed — two minutes at a time — and in full gaze of the others.
Glass walls, cameras and microphones mean that every word and deed is recorded.
Informants placed in each cell even note down what people say in their sleep and pass it on to guards.
As with every other day, the morning begins with compulsory singing of Communist Party songs, praising the glorious motherland and its wise leader, Xi Jinping.
Then their only meal of the day arrives. Watery cabbage soup, served with a small lump of steamed dough. If they’re lucky, they may get a few grains of rice as well.
And then the medication arrives in a form of a white pill. To be sure they’ve taken it, the prisoners’ mouths are roughly forced open and searched.
The mysterious drug — a tranquilliser of some sort — soon induces a state of miserable mental numbness.
Thoughts and memories of life outside, the fate of loved ones, the pain of shattered hopes: all recede. Now the only aim is to get through the day.
Such a scene is being played out in any one of China’s secret concentration camps, dedicated to ‘re-educating’ a million or more of the country’s Muslim Uighur population in a network of hundreds of institutions built across 640,000 square miles of Western China: an area seven times the size of Britain.
Every detail of this harrowing description of life inside the ‘Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region’ — its native Uighurs call it ‘East Turkestan’ — comes from accounts that have trickled out of the region and from a huge package of internal Communist Party documents leaked last year by a brave official, disgusted by the policies he was implementing.
They are confirmed by survivor testimony collated by Rahima Mahmut of the London office of the World Uyghur Congress and by Human Rights Watch, a New York based campaign group.
Internet detectives have also used publicly available satellite images to plot the growth of the camps.
On Sunday, Beijing’s UK ambassador Liu Xiaoming was quizzed by Andrew Marr about drone footage, taken in 2018, showing hundreds of Uighur men, kneeling, shaven-headed, shackled and blindfolded, being led from a train, in what appeared to be a transfer of prisoners.
Party above all!
Exactly how do they lead kneeling men from a train?
"Unfortunately, thanks to the federal government flooding our neighborhoods with billions of dollars of military equipment and property over the years, the line between peace officer and soldier of war has become increasingly blurry."
Plus, dressing up like G.I. Joe is sooo cooool.
"President Donald Trump has been trying to peddle his own version of fake reality, if not fake news, by repeatedly claiming that the recent rise in COVID-19 cases is only due to more testing," writes Ron Bailey—but Trump is wrong, he argues.

"A bipartisan majority of registered voters strongly support state mandates that would fine or jail individuals if they fail to wear a mask in public, a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll finds"
When will we reach peak Karen?
Like there's no such thing as Peak Derp, as long as Karen exists Peak Karen can't be attained.
If and when a case goes before the Supreme Court contesting some fine for not wearing a mask, I wonder if Roberts will argue that it's a "penaltax".
That is terrifying. It is why you should fear the public much more than you fear the government.
And because we're ruled by incompetent derelicts, they let themselves be influenced by clueless and arrogant public health officials and a population thoroughly entrenched in fear.
How is this not a mass hysteria again?
The devil made his move. Who will stand up to him?
It is total mass hysteria. It pretty much ends any idea that we have a right to look down on people who lived and went along with things like Nazism and so forth. We as a society are no better.
It's just a mask....it's just a Jew.
I agree. The mindset remains. I just didn't think I'd be witness to it and it troubles me tremendously.
For fuck sakes, ENB keeps pretending there's no damn violence. They're all missing the way bigger mass psychosis at play here.
People are in a state of faux-religious and righteous fervour and fear.
This can get very ugly very fast.
You better pray somehow cooler heads prevail but I fear we passed Go.
The Coronavirus is not even in the top 20 of worst pandemics in history and we're acting like it is.
I gotta be lectured by gullible, dumbass, ignorant, illiberal buffoons telling me I gotta wear a mask for my own good? People who I know who think in high-resolution see this is bad. People I know who see things in low-resolution only see a Virus = fear= masks calculus. Politicians are too gutless or stupid to steer people from this appalling broken logic and for letting clueless public health officials continuously crash the car.
A close friend of mine was always an impetuous and gullible sort of guy. He's a complete NPC 'tard at the moment. I can't talk to him. He wears shoe coverings.
People wear medical masks. Alone. In a park. Or in a car. They think they're virtuous. But don't see their virtue becomes a vice once you condone violence of the state against people who have free agency.
Fuck all this. I'm gonna play my fiddle and just go down with this ship.
...you should fear the public much more than you fear the government.
I'd say it's about equal. The government has the monopoly on violence and "qualified immunity" and are usually the ones that directly violate your rights, but most of the time they're just doing whatever "the public" wants them to do. And by "the public" I really mean "Karen" because she makes the most noise and the most demands for them to "do something ... mumble mumble ... for the children ... blah blah blah." IOW, it's a symbiotic circle designed to fuck over anyone and everyone for any slight, real or imagined.
Governments do not exist separate from their people. Unless the government is a military occupation force, governments do nothing that society as a whole doesn't tolerate to one degree or another. Our government is only as free as our society wants it to be.
When will we reach peak Karen?
Karen is infinite. She contains multitudes. Peak Karen will never be reached.
Peak Karen will never be reached.
From the New Progressive Testament:
Then Jesus asked xer, “What is your name?”
“My name is Karen,” xe replied, “for we are many.
You have to use the Spanish pronunciation of Jesus when quoting the NPT.
A stunning amount of leftists have "he/him or she/her" written in their Twitter bios.

McCloskey Gun Inoperable When Police Seized It, But Prosecution Ordered Crime Lab to Make It Operable and ‘Lethal’
https://www.redstate.com/nick-arama/2020/07/22/mccloskey-gun-inoperable-when-police-seized-it-but-prosecution-ordered-crime-lab-to-make-it-operable-and-lethal/
In Missouri, police and prosecutors must prove that a weapon is “readily” capable of lethal use when it used in the type of crime with which the McCloskeys have been charged.
At the request of Assistant Circuit Attorney Chris Hinckley, crime lab staff members field stripped the handgun and found it had been assembled incorrectly. Specifically, the firing pin spring was put in front of the firing pin, which was backward, and made the gun incapable of firing, according to the documents.
Firearms experts then put the gun back together, per Hinckley’s request, in the correct order and test-fired it, finding that it worked, according to the documents.
Crime lab workers photographed the disassembly and reassembly of the gun, according to the documents.
And thus we will find an instance of police misconduct that reason will have no interest in talking about.
It's OK; its just a DA and a police crime lab. It isn't the government.
Well they're both funded by Mr Soros, so they're kinda coworkers
I said at the time it looked like she knew the thing wasn't operable. Finger on the trigger the whole time, even at one time pointing directly at the back of her husband's head. She's a high-powered defense attorney, right? Not someone who's likely to do something that stupid, even if she's never held a gun before.
At the very least, it wasn't loaded, and she knew it.
In Missouri, police and prosecutors must prove that a weapon is “readily” capable of lethal use when it used in the type of crime with which the McCloskeys have been charged.
Should be a pretty open and shut case then. I don't see any possible way the prosecution can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the gun was operable and "readily capable of lethal use" at the time of the supposed "crime."
Of course, the key words there are "should be."
It is the heighth of stupidity to brandish and threaten someone with a inoperative gun.
From the Brickbat this morning: Shandro says doctors must be required to provide three months notice before leaving practice and required to "provide effective alternative resources and/or arrangements for patients if they choose to withdraw services." If they can't, the government would force them to continue to practice "until effective alternative resources and/or arrangements have been created.
Can we finally get an admission from the socialists that Canada's medical system they are always going on about is fucked now that they are finally forcing doctors to work at the point of a gun? I mean, I am sure the government lackey who tells them they can't leave Alberta because of the slave wages will say 'sorry', but that isn't a lot of consolation when being forced to work for the 'greater good'.
That's OK. It is just a nationalized healthcare program. Its not the government.
>>will say ‘sorry’
"SO-rey. Hoser"
A bipartisan majority of registered voters
...are fucking idiots.
Well that's going to spark a new round of conspiracies!
IIRC, at this time of the year in 2016 Johnson was polling quite a bit more than that. I seem to remember there was even some talk of him maybe, possibly, getting enough support to get into the debates. Of course, that didn't happen because usually support for third parties drops as the election gets closer and the actual vote total is always way below whatever the polls in July showed. So if Jorgensen is polling at 3% now, I'll be surprised if she ends up getting more than 0.3%.
Not that I give a shit, just pointing out that this is definitely not a good election year for the LP. I wouldn't be shocked if they barely edge out the Greens for third place.
Maybe she can get a speaking gig at the DNC convention. They got John Kasich lined up.

Dyeing a wig is even worse. Especially if the wig dyer is over 25.

This X 1,000,000.
And anyone celebrating people for doing that because it's "such a 2020 vibe" is also a fucking child. Unless they mean "2020 vibe" as in "just as retarded as everything else that has happened so far this year" but I'm pretty sure that's not what KMW meant.
"Especially if they’re doing it in day-glo colors."

Also debatable.

I love the writer for mentioning that he was an attorney
Honestly, her being an attorney is probably the only reason they did anything. If she'd been an ordinary citizen they'd have told her to go fuck herself, but doing that to an attorney is just begging to pay for their next beach home.
Yup.
It's also nice that they cited 'municipal violations' rather than admit they'd allowed a political slogan to be painted on public property - lying bastards...
By the way, about that poll. I didn't bother reading but did it focus on Millennials?
I think of all the generations they're the ones likely to be spooked most because they've been victims of miseducation. They have no idea how to contextualize things. They just emote and add a tattoo. I expect virus tattoos will be a hit next.
That's my generalization of the day.
And a good one it is.

Reporting via Twitter and other links is precisely the idea of the Reason Roundup blog post each weekday morning.
Also “to be clear” using that phrase insults your readers. And it makes you look foolish because you implied you were unclear before.
The crack about Twitter is spot on but on this, I disagree. Being more clear, not all concepts can or adequately explained or should be explained by a single fact, sentence, or even paragraph. However it can be abused, to be sure, and it's use can be complicated by the fact that it can be deliberately insulting trying to be clear to everyone.
To be sure is 100 times worse than to be clear.

Also, the overwhelming majority of masks are light colored. So, how do you tell if a white person is wearing a (white) mask? You get close to them. How do you tell if a black person is not wearing a (white) mask? You can tell from across a football field.
So, to police masks and races equally, all masks will either need to be segregated by race, have brightly colored shaps, like triangles, on them, or both.
