Kennedy was wrong, not on principle, but factually. A reliable Fox national security expert guest, regularly appearing on various of their shows in that capacity, had in one recently pointed out that the Gov request of Apple offers that they take the phone in custody, do whatever is needed to empty it of data, give the gov the data, then destroy or not all traces of how they got into the phone.

That means two things: one, Apple is radically misrepresenting this issue by claiming a back door would be released, since that would be up to them

The other is that the Gov has idiots in charge of Justice Dept PR. McAfee, retired antivirus guru and Libertarian Pres candidate, was on various shows in the last couple of days offering to take the phone, hack into it, and give it back. This made at least one paper. So the PR idiocy of the Gov applies here: Nobody over there even realizes what some other honcho over there put in the request to Apple. Idiots!
