LES LIBERTARIENS SONT PARMI NOUS!
"Libertarians Are Among Us!" sez French leftist paper Liberation. "Ultra individualist movement remains politically marginal but now swarming in pop culture."

Here's a delight from old Europe: An article in the storied leftist French paper Liberation touting "le moment libertarien" and featuring comments from Matt Welch and myself.
The basic argument is that libertarian thinking—suspicion of power, belief in the individual's rights and ability to make meaningful decisions, and an embrace of technological and social innovation—is ascendant in cultural terms. Guillaume Gendron and Fabien Benoit run through various examples of this, ranging from tthe rise of Liberland to Clint Eastwood movies to South Park to Tony Stark/Ironman in Marvel films to various statements from Brangelina to Vince Vaughn.
All translations are via Google, so adjust accordingly.
Invited by a Libertarian Student Union on the UCLA campus in April, [Vaughn] ensured that his activism earned him compliments moult in Hollywood, despite the midst of omerta. Even the power torque Jolie-Pitt was acquired libertarian arguments … Which seem to permeate many box office successes in recent years. "On television, all the shows that deal with the government show how the state is harmful. In House of Cards, the president is a murderer! Enthuses Matt Welch…mastermind of Reason. And what about teenage science fiction that a hit in bookstores! The saga Hunger Games is fiercely anti-authority.It is not surprising that younger generations plébiscitent these stories: they have never seen a government run correctly. "

Despite the weak translation, you can catch the drift, I think. And there's this:
"The time Libertarian we currently lives is more cultural than political or even economic. New technologies have given the majority the opportunity to individualize her life and make her own choices," believes Nick Gillespie, co-editor of Reason, monthly founded in 1968 and Principal opinion libertarian newspaper in the US . Despite a modest paper circulation of 60,000 copies, the site of Reason attracts 4 million visitors per month, a figure "steady increase" he said. For a fan of punk rock, child of the cons-culture of the 1960s, it is through the "uberisation" of the economy, acceptance of gay marriage and the legalization of cannabis that is played "the transition to the twenty-first century, where everyone has the necessary space to decide for itself once the current political-economic order will collapse."
Read the whole thing here. And definitely check out the incredibly great images dotting the story.

I look forward to France's surrender to their libertarian overlords.
The damned libertarians will take over France and leave everyone alone.
Not until every relationship has a license.
Ask one of the Canadians in the commentariat to translate those for you. They're all fluent right?
O Canada!
Terre de nos a?eux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux.
Car ton bras sait porter l'?p?e,
Il sait porter la croix.
Ton histoire est une ?pop?e,
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi tremp?e,
Prot?gera nos foyers et nos droits.
Prot?gera nos foyers et nos droits.

Wikipedia's English translation of the above:
O Canada!
Land of our forefathers,
Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers.
As is thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic
Of the most brilliant exploits.
Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights.
Will protect our homes and our rights.
Wait, I should have done the Google English translation:
O Canada!
Land of our ancestors,
Your forehead is surrounded by glorious jewels .
For your arm knows how to wear the sword,
He knows how to carry the cross .
Your story is an epic ,
With glowing .
And your value soaked faith
Will protect our homes and our rights.
Will protect our homes and our rights.
I'm not sure but I think it says 'These pretzels are making me thirsty.'
Matt Welch is the mastermind of Reason, right?
Isn't one of the Reason staffers married to a French woman?
Couldn't she do a better job than Google?
Or that they could've found a translator software more reliable than Google.
Is there a free service that's better?
True, setting the wife to work on it might not strictly be free.
That would be Mrs. Welch, aka Emmanuelle Richard.
But it's Friday, and Gillespie needs to hit the freeway before traffic picks up, so we get Chrome's translate to English.
There's a rumor that Welch and Gillespie have never actually met.
Their English isn't much better.

Me, dammit! Just say me!
Hell, my 7-year-old would do a better job. But, c'mon, MASTERMIND!
I forget: is France that state off to the east of Maine where homeless men attack one another with machetes in broad daylight?
That sounds like England. France is the next one past there.
I knew it was the wrong day to start eating acid for breakfast. I'm not agile and I'm no cyborg.
Acid is only *part* of this complete breakfast.
(Do they still advertise cereals that way?)
Are they the sort with leather straps and SS caps?
"the "uberisation" of the economy"
"Uber" sounds German, so I guess they better surrender to it, lol
So Agile Cyborg forked some of his consciousness into Google's translation servers.
I'm impressed.
Look, just tell me, does the teen vampire get the girl or not?
I think I've found an image worthy of being my first tattoo.
"mastermind of Reason."
Someone get this editor a pinky ring
Horrendous translation. How about I translate the article for you, Nick?
Did someone say, "do the French National Anthem"?
Google Translate, do your work:
Arise children of the fatherland ,
The day of glory has come!
Against us tyranny
The bloody banner is raised! (repeat)
Do you hear in the countryside,
Blared the wild soldiers?
They are coming into our arms
Slay our son , our wives!
refrain
To arms, citizens !
Form your battalions !
Walk ! Walk !
Only an impure blood
Water our furrows !
Sacred love of country,
Lead, support our avenging arms!
Freedom, liberty cherie,
Fight with your defenders ! (repeat)
Under our flags, let victory
Hurries to your manly !
May your enemies expiring
See your triumph and our glory !
refrain
We will enter careers
When our elders are no longer there ;
We shall find their dust
And the mark of their virtues .
Much less jealous of surviving them
Than sharing their coffins ,
We have the sublime pride
Of avenging or following them !
refrain
Im making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life.
This is what I do. http://www.OnlineJobs100.Com
As an occasional translator for Contrepoints.org (the leading French libertarian online newsmagazine), I may approximatively translate the two parts you're quoting.
"Invited by a libertarian student group on the UCLA campus in April, [Vaughn] assured that his activism earned him many compliments in Hollywood, despite the industry's omerta. Even the power couple Jolie-Pitt was a ready constituency for libertarian ideas... Which seem to permeate many box office successes in recent years. "On television, all the shows that deal with the government show how harmful the state is. In House of Cards, the president is a murderer!" tells us an euphoric Matt Welch, Reason's other kingpin. "And what about teenage science fiction hits in bookstores! The Hunger Games saga is fiercely anti-authority. No surprise that younger generations love these stories: they have never seen a government running correctly."
The other part would be :
"The libertarian moment we're currently living is more cultural than political or even economic. New technologies have given most people the opportunity to individualize their lives and make her own choices," believes Nick Gillespie, co-editor of Reason, a monthly newspaper founded in 1968 which is the main libertarian newspaper in the US. Despite a humble paper circulation of 60,000 copies, the site of Reason attracts 4 million visitors per month, "steady increasing" he said. For a fan of punk rock, child of the counterculture of the 1960s, it is through the "uberization" of the economy, acceptance of gay marriage and legalization of cannabis that happens "the transition to the twenty-first century, where everyone has enough room to decide for itself once the current political-economic order will collapse."
Of course, our two kingpins/masterminds (Nick and Matt) may correct their own quotes. 🙂
Oh, by the way : Liberation sells 90.000 copies a day, shrinking every year. It is quite ironic to read them describing Reason as "humble", knowing that Lib?ration lost 40 % of its readers over the last 12 years. They only survive through public subsidies (a bit more than 10 million Euros last year, which is 11-12 million USD), and indirect help (government departments and universities buy dozens or hundreds of copies of selected daily newspapers every day).
Oh! I sadly mourn the death of "me", the tragic loss of the mono-, overrun by the profligate di-syllablic.
But that's just myself.
