Prior to the industrial revolution, and, even earlier, the emergence of "bourgeois" virtues, everyone but the nobility was poor. Capitalism and free markets have proven, time and again, to be the greatest engines of eliminating poverty and creating wealth, and, yes, reducing inequality. Recently, I saw a chart that showed how the world has become more equal over the past few centuries. I am having trouble locating it, and if someone can find it, please post it.

Everywhere it's been tried, communism features the same gross inequality that the world experienced prior to the emergence of free market capitalism. A few privileged folks live lavish lives compared to the vast majority who toil without recompense.

So- what is it they care about, if not inequality or poverty?
