We're back! Tonight's live episode of The Independents (Fox Business Network, 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT, repeats three hours later), picks up on some of the controversies that were bubbling forth during the Christmas break, including:

* The New York Police Department vs. Mayor Bill De Blasio. Party Panelists Katie Pavlich (co-host, Outnumbered) and Nomiki Konst ("TV Pundit. Podcast Host. Arizonan. NYer. Politico. Feminist. Veggie. Yogi. Founder: Alliance Hollywood. Ex-Congressional Candidate") discuss.

* The rise and fall and mostly digital rise again of The Interview. Kmele Foster will keep it himself.

* The National Security Agency's heavily redacted Christmas Eve document-dump. The co-hosts will sift through.

* GQ's GOP-centric list of "crazy politicians." New York Post movie reviewer/columnist Kyle Smith will balance.

Also on tonight: Beloved Reason.com contributor Lenore Skenazy will talk about some of her "10 Outrageous 'Zero Tolerance' Follies of 2014." And you, the big people, get to vote on what Pavlich & Konst & co. will talk about in their second panel: President Barack Obama threatening his veto-pen on a GOP-led Congress, or Jeb Bush topping the latest GOP presidential polls. Go to our Facebook page to vote!

No aftershow tonight, as Kennedy will be hosting L.A.'s KFI 640 AM for three hours just following the broadcast (listen live here). As long as we're pimping appearances, I'll be on Fox & Friends tomorrow morning at the ungodly hour of 6:15 a.m., to talk about the state of Montana's new one-stop shop for welfare benefits.

As long as we're pimping appearances, I'll be on Fox & Friends tomorrow morning at the ungodly hour of 6:15 a.m., to talk about the state of Montana's new one-stop shop for welfare benefits.

Do you sleep on a cot? Or do they send a town car over to pick you up at 4:30 AM?

I always wondered about that when Judge Napolitano would be on live in 9-11PM slots then show up on Fox & Friends at 5:30 AM

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

I was once @ work in the office past midnight and had to be back at my desk by 5:30am or so, and when i told security that i was just going to nap on a couch in the office they freaked out and said that we couldn't do that and that there was a labor law or something (*they didn't seem to know *what* it was, but that it was 'a serious rule').

I had to promise i wasn't sleeping, and that if i did sleep i had to leave and come back. I just kicked my feet up at my desk and 'meditated' for a few hours. I still have no idea wtf they were talking about. Maybe it was just some security rule.

      1. Smilin' Joe Fission   11 years ago

It's the super double secret labor law, Gilmore.

      2. Sevo   11 years ago

I never heard of that, at least in CA.
When we sold our company and relocated, I spent more than several days over the first couple of weeks 'overnighting' at the office and no one said boo about it.

        1. Pl?ya Manhattan.   11 years ago

          Was that in 19-dicketey-ought?

  2. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

GQ is partisan? My gods,it cannot be!

  3. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

    No aftershow tonight.

I still have the CD. Even with the "translation", I'm still not seeing it.

  4. juris imprudent   11 years ago

Looks like it's going to be a slow night.

  5. Smilin' Joe Fission   11 years ago

OT: Just watched the season 1 of True Detective again. IMO this is the best show I have ever seen. I do hesitate to call it a show, however. It is more like an extended movie.

I don't know how this can be topped in the second season.

  6. John Titor   11 years ago

So wait, Dianne Feinstein hangs out with a legit cult leader in the 1970s who went on to commit mass suicide, and that doesn't warrant any kind of 'crazy' claim?

    1. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

      And what about Traficant?

      1. John Titor   11 years ago

Also, according to Pelosi, the ghosts of Susan B. Anthony and Sojourner Truth speak to her. Even if I was some hack partisan I'd still throw Pelosi on that list for that shit.

    2. Sevo   11 years ago

But some GOPer spoke to some white supremacists! He's a racist! So there!

      1. GILMORE   11 years ago

        Yeah, i saw that story.

Somehow that was supposed to be 'damning' while Obama's membership in the 'Church of the Screaming Communist' is apparently to be accepted as part of the Rich Tapestry of American life.

        1. Sevo   11 years ago

"Somehow that was supposed to be 'damning' while Obama's membership in the 'Church of the Screaming Communist' is apparently to be accepted as part of the Rich Tapestry of American life."

Jim Jones claimed to be able to deliver 500 votes (and there is no reason to doubt it), so every politico in SF sucked up to him.
Now, if you mention his name at any sort of gathering, the ceiling seems to hold great interest, oh, and the politicos seem to be needed across the room, stat!

The stream link is not giving me TI. Anyone have one? Notorious? Anyone?

  8. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Well, well, well. If this ain't a sad sight. This is why you can't go on vacay. Peeps be forgettin.

Myself? A victim of the battle between Fox and Dish. I got no access to Fox Biz. Out of action until the right palms get greased. I sure as shit am not going to be watching some steam online like a goddamn pauper.

The Independents Attire Review, 29 December 2014

    Ungodly Hour-Edition

    - Kennedy: So Bombastically Red she makes both ardent Communists and members of the UDD Party of Thailand feel uncomfortable. We suspect she's trying to garner more 'Republican cred' from her fellow Fox News hosts. John Bolton Approves.

    - Matt/Kmele: aka "The Yin-Yang Twins". We've long sung the praises of Kmele's mastry of mono-chromatic layers of grey; Matt steals a page from that playbook and brings a negative-image assembly of Kmele's attire tonight, matching a charcoal tie with his light-grey suit (versus Kmele's lighter-grey tie with a charcoal blazer). Normally we'd complain about the dearth of color, but Kennedy's nuclear-strawberry radiance manages to entirely offset the flavor-deficit. Our only niggle is (as usual) how Kmele brings a more-stylish spread-collar compared to Matt's more-predictable point-collar.

    - Hot Vampire-Looking Chick: The 'ultraviolet'-looking dress really helps bring out the 'sexy-undead' thing. We suddenly see the flush of life in Kennedy's pallor that was previously missing. We think Lachlan Markay may have found a suitable genetic match.

    Ic s?cge eow ?ancas

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

*footnote = we like this 'shiny-grey' tie best with the new(ish) light-grey suit (so far having seen cyan, pink; still waiting on purple, navy etc. to compare)

    2. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

      "niggle"?

      Racist.

  10. GILMORE   11 years ago

Discuss the horrors of a Jeb Bush candidacy, please.

and WTF, facebook? do i really need to go there? I've been boycotting that thing ever since a high school friend started stalking me.

  11. Sevo   11 years ago

    Hey, Matt!
Ya got my damn contribution and you spend it on a charcoal tie instead of a decent server?!
    You deserve 18 comments.

  12. BigT   11 years ago

Kmele is an elitist dick who wouldn't know comedy if it bit him on his ass.

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

Why would comedy bite Kmele in the ass?

      Also, The Interview actually sucked.

      1. BigT   11 years ago

The first part was weak, but the last 30 minutes was very funny.

        1. Suthenboy   11 years ago

          Funny. Rogan. Franco.

One of these is not like the other two.

  13. GILMORE   11 years ago

    OT:
"Barbara Lee named House MVP by liberal Nation magazine"
    http://blog.sfgate.com/nov05el.....-magazine/

The presumption here is that she had some effect on Obo's decision re: Cuba, a claim lacking evidence.
But there's a comment worth reading; the story is written by someone who wrote for Reason on the past and has admitted libertarian sympathies:
"Lee led a long fight to recognize Cuba as Comrade Marinucci recently described, and continues to battle the Obama administration on military interventions in the Middle East."
"Comrade Marinucci" is a political writer for the Chron; do I need to mention she seems to list left far enough to capsize? Ms. Lochhead's characterization of Marinucci as "comrade" are certainly open to interpretation...

  15. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

    Watching rerun...

I don't know what Kmele is talking about with the tea partiers also connected to shooting incidents?

Using a name with the word "Independent" in it, for anything in relation to "FOX" is a misnomer.

      Drink?
