Porn Star Belle Knox on Being Libertarian; Greg Gutfeld on Being Uncool
On last night's episode of The Independents, 18-year-old porn actress and Duke student Belle Knox (NSFW) talked about her theories of maximal labor value and personal autonomy:
Also, Fox News funnyman and rejected Reason intern Greg Gutfeld talked about John McCain's heroism, Rand Paul's hair, and the Gut's new book, Not Cool: The Hipster Elite and Their War on You:

"Duke costs $60,000 a year".
What, in fuck's name does one get with a $240,000 degree from Duke?
Fucked good and hard.
Hey, dude, that's what Hopkins costs now too. Slightly more, actually. At least we only paid $30,000 a year when we went, amirite?
Yeah. I was slightly pissed when I came out into the job market and the initial job offers were barely one year's tuition. The only redeeming factor was that engineering salary growth is decent. I still wonder what the humanities majors with black turtlenecks are doing now.

If memory serves me, tending bar, working the door at strip clubs and riding pedicabs on Bourbon Street.
Were there really even that many of them? I mean, there were International Relations students, but they'll go straight into politics and international NGOs. Hopkins isn't really a place for the unambitious or undirected.
Hell, even at that time, Hopkins had a plethora of ethnic studies departments. I remember some post-grad idiot trying to run me out of a Portuguese class simply because I was a filthy engineering student just there for the credits and not for some other grand purpose of understanding/justice/something.
Hmm, my Italian teacher loved me. Probably because she was young and from Italy. I chose wisely with that class, because I sure as fuck didn't deserve the grade she gave me.
But did she grade the fuck you gave her for it 😉
You got lucky then. At that time, Hopkins was 70% male and the women were rather unshaven. I resorted to chasing former Catholic high school girls at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland (CONDOM).

*Spit take* Please tell me this is a real university and not something you made up. I don't think I want to live in world without a Catholic University whose acronym is "CONDOM."
Recently (very recently in 2011) changed to Notre Dame of Maryland University.

It was and probably still is a repository of repressed young women just waiting to get in trouble.

IOW, CONDOM was a far more appropriate name.

Take comfort in knowing that he's at an occupy protest demanding student debt forgiveness.
Oh wait, you're paying for his education too. Never mind.
The University of Warty provides the same degree for $0. Sometimes, you don't even have to apply in order to be accepted.
Uncle Warty's Erudition Camp is now accepting applications.
I shudder to think of the mascot for the sports teams...
The privilege of seeing "your" basketball team win a national championship every few years?
Hung out to dry when you're falsely accused of rape?
So, you get to meet Mike Nifong?
The name Duke on your degree. Do you really think Yale Law is *that* much better than say U of M, Cornell or Georgetown? No of course not.
A chance to fuck a pornstar if you play your cards right...
$240,000 for a little rumpy-bumpy?
You could take Thais and Helen of Troy to the Riviera for less than that.
I didn't say it was worth the money, just that you could.
"I halfheartedly googled 'how to be a porn star', and up pops[...]"
Phrasing...phrasing.
Oh my god, she's a women's studies major... and paying $240,000 for that.
You'd think she's good looking enough to make much better money as a high-end escort. Plus if you want to apply to law school after you graduate, you don't have to put Cumfart Bitches 8 on your resume.
It kind of makes one wonder what's wrong with good old high-class prostitute. But I mean, I'm not trying to judge. Maybe she enjoys being on camera. But I'm thinking (and I'm no expert) if you're ok with the sex with random strangers, you can do that in private and still get a pretty good paycheck.
Unfortunately there is the whole illegal thing though.
This chick would have been a lot smarter to have just become a high class hooker. First, the money is better. And second, it is discreet. She could get her degree, stop being a whore and there wouldn't be any evidence of it floating around the internet.
People go into porn because they want attention.
Why do you say that? She's found the one reliable way to make good money doing porn as an actor, become otherwise famous. She's made herself a household name now, she'll drive web traffic from that alone. I'll bet her fees jumped considerably once she went public.
Let me say it again. People go into porn because they want attention. Yeah, she wants attention and this is her scheme to get it. That means her being in porn is about that not about the money. If it were just about the money, she would have just become a hooker.
That's pretty weak. There are a lot of reasons to pick porn over hooking. Safety being first and foremost.
She's also closed a lot of doors on whatever career she was planning on making with her Duke degree. Inn those circles she's not famous but infamous.
Just how much of a career was she gonna make out a Women's Studies degree, anyway?
People go into porn because they want attention.
Then why don't all women aspire to do porn?
As I understand it, there's a huge difference between being a high-class call girl and being a porn star. High-class call girls also provide an emotional/psychological service to their clients. They talk to them, they make them feel good; there's a lot of interpersonal skills and interaction needed. A porn star has sex on camera and needs to either enjoy it or look like they are. These are very different skill sets, and this girl is probably more suited for the one she chose and not the other.
I can see your point. But she is 18 years old and not unattractive. If she were older, yeah, she would need to have some social and emotional skills to make it as a hooker. At 18? No. It is the older broads who have to learn how to talk to men. If you are 18 and look like her, none of them are going to care what you have to say. And if they do, they will ask for an older broad from the agency.

You know, I was married and I never got any of that.
Unfortunately there is the whole illegal thing though.
I suspect this is probably a big reason why she didn't go the high class hooker route.
That and porn companies generally require AIDS and other STD tests. With prostitution you're gambling that the clients don't have VDs.
Her initial porn interview was on the Daily Mail, so of course I watched it. As much as I could anyway. She's such a fucking twit. Anyway, she said her goal was to be a lawyer who specializes in womyns causes. So it looks like she'd going to law school after she gets this degree. What a waste.
At least she will come to the profession as an experienced whore.
Pre-emptive lawyer joke?
I watched it too. In it she said she wanted to be famous and wants attention. That made me think the whole harassment and bullying thing was total bullshit and was all her doing to get into the news.
Of course she wants to be famous. She probably has some half baked idea of being an actress or "public activist" or something. If she just needed the money and didn't mind screwing for it, she would have become a high end hooker instead of a porn star where the evidence of her being so will live forever on the internet.
There are interesting parallels to the career of Sandra Fluke come to think of it. Both were trying to become nationally famous using self-created circumstances relating to their education.
The difference is that one of them did some shameful, nasty, degrading things to get famous, and Belle Knox did porn instead.
Saw that coming; still laughed.
I wish this chick would shut up. If she wants to be a porn star to pay for Duke, good for her. But her choice of being a porn star says nothing about the higher education bubble and everything about her choices. If she thinks being a porn star is a good deal, then what is her bitch? If she thinks it is a bad deal, then go to a cheaper school.
In view of the praise of her being well-spoken and erudite, I have to say that she sounds more than a little like so many ditzy sorority gals. I didn't hear anything in her spiel that a solid conservative wouldn't demolish in 60 seconds. That says more about her than about the conservatives.
And we'll have to wait and see whether there's any chance of her views changing if she contracts an STD or worse.
No one gets into porn or is a hooker because they are brilliant and choose it from so many better options.
How would you know?
John turned down a career in porn for one in internet commenting.
High-end escorts can charge $500+ an hour. I'd fuck random people for that kind of money.
Most women wouldn't. Show me the former porn star or hooker who went on to some other brilliant career? A few of them have done okay writing about their experience. But that is about it.
If it really were such a great career option that women with other options would choose, there would be successful women in other fields who once were such.
Most women wouldn't. Show me the former porn star or hooker who went on to some other brilliant career?
Wu Zetian?
"Show me the former porn star or hooker who went on to some other brilliant career?"
Given that most porn stars and hookers work under assumed names, as far as I can tell, and that a lot of them don't talk much about their previous careers once they leave (for the obvious stigma reasons), how would you even know?
Aside from that, I could just as easily say, "Show me the former dentist who went on to some other brilliant career", and I bet you couldn't do that either, but it says nothing about being a dentist.
Lawyer, whore. Same thing.
Wrong, whores have a better sense of ethics.
She isn't a libertarian. She is a Feminist who believes there should be laws in place to make sure women get paid as much as men. Ironically, she does not think that men in the porn industry should be paid as much as the women.
Watch the video of her on efukt.
She was on facial abuse LOL
Ugh, better be good at finding her on efukt because the rest of the stuff the site offers is pretty nasty and unwatchable.
Please tell me that some man is doing something horribly degrading to her while she is explaining all that.
Or better yet right after she explains it for better comedic timing.
Oh Boo the F___ Hoo, Gutfeld.
Mike Rowe should have Belle Knox on Dirty Jobs. Because her job is really dirty!
The most astute commentary on Belle Knox I've read yet.
