TSA Agent Reported Shot at Los Angeles Airport [UPDATED--Shooter ID'ed, Said to Have Anti-Government Views]
Breaking, few details available now, but this from Los Angeles Times:
A Transportation Security Administration agent and a suspect were wounded in a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning, sources told the Los Angeles Times.
Law enforcement officers were flooding the airport, authorities said, and terminals 2 and 3 were evacuated….
TV footage showed dozens of offficers swarming the airport. Images also showed a law enforcement officer being treated by paramedics. He appeared to be alert. Another officer had a bloody hand.
UPDATE: Second suspect reported in custody, one shooter shot in leg, via L.A. Weekly:
Police have confirmed the shooting. The suspect has apparently been apprehended, according to news reports. CBS reported that he's been shot in the leg…..
CBS is now reporting that a second suspect is in custody -- and he was armed….
The FAA has reportedly grounded all flights to and from LAX.
CBS reports that police are focused on a series of "multiple, suspicious" packages -- which, in light of how many packages are at any airport on any given day, particularly one when people are fleeing in panic -- is going to be no easy investigation.
UPDATE II: LA Times now reporting the shooter was indeed alone, and they are being told by "law enforcement sources" that the shooter "was a Transportation Security Administration employee at LAX."
UPDATE III: The shooter being TSA thing is being withdrawn by the LA Times now: "A federal law enforcement official said that the gunman was a ticketed passenger entering the airport. Officials don't believe the gunman has ever worked for TSA. Law enforcement sources had earlier told The Times the gunman was a TSA employee."
UPDATE IV: Shooter is identified as 23-year-old Paul Anthony Ciancia and said to have had unidentified "literature" of supposed anti-government views on his person.
Associated Press is more precise on that, saying he "He was wearing fatigues and carrying a bag containing a hand-written note that said he 'wanted to kill TSA and pigs…..'"

AVENGE MEEEeeeeee.......
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
Okay.
Hmm. Agent on agent crime? Love triangle?
Love Pentagram
I've made a flowchart of our love.
That could be a Clapton song.
JJ Cale played it first.
I'd just like to point out that I called it. My cynicism has paid off.
Turns out not TSA agent, but he was using Yippie/Weatherman terminology of "kill pigs." Perhaps we could call him Neo-New Left.
Well, is he a Yippie or a Black Panther? Looks like you can't make up your mind. Or is your Propaganda Bureau bickering over this?
Personally, I feel that "dogs" is better than "pigs." You guys defend property and privilege, right?
"he 'wanted to kill TSA and pigs...'"
Everything tastes better with bacon.
I read "TSA Agents Shoot Reporter at LAX," and didn't blink.
Needless to say I was less inclined to care once I clicked through.
Did they finally fondle the wrong person?
I really, really hope it was a tawdry lovers' quarrel.
That would be fucking great. It would be even funnier watching the TSA try and spin it as terrorism somehow too.
It is a Black Panthers guy or ally. All the elements are there. Gun, militant uniform, note about pigs.
Austrian? You sound like an American Conservative shill. Next you'll be warning us about Soviet Communism.
Hurr de hurr.
I wont speculate. TSA agent shot? No tears here.
Waiting to get more info, but skeptical.

"I guess he didnt get the memo about it being a gun free zone."
First one:
nick42 at 10:30 AM November 1, 2013
How could this have possibly happened? Kalifornia has some of the toughest anti-gun laws in the nation, and LAX is a gun-free zone, so it's simply not possible that anyone could have possessed a weapon there, much less fired it.
I mean, if this actually happened, it would mean that all the gun control laws, all the gun-free zones, all the invasive security, all the freedom the government has confiscated in the name of security... all of that is one great big steaming pile of horse crap. That can't be the case, so this event surely did not happen.
Love it.
I hope he's not tacitly advocating that TSA agents be armed now.
I actually like some that I see =

You have the IQ of a Christian Republican. No offense.
Yes, the vast majority are California grief-trolling about why MOAR GUNS CONTROL would stop this horrible tragic unnecessary something because... derp
I particularly like the "you are a disgusting person, evil stupid and my enemy and I hate your politics and your God.... but don't be offended by these remarks because I'm just being honest"
You see, because conservatives are *hateful*. Liberals are just telling people honest truths.
I read someone somewhere make a point about not tolerating intolerance.
It started off OK...
But then the anti-gun shitstacks showed up with their ban boners fully engorged...
Plenty more DERP where that came from.
you know, if only everyone could be just like those gun-hating liberals, then all would be well in the kingdom.
And who knew Sandy Duncan had moved into politics.
Courageous (and hilarious!) commentary by SandyDuncan, going after Sarah Palin. Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - ever thought to make a Sarah Palin joke before.
She and Sammy Davis Jr saw eye to eye.
Either I am the only one who gets that and/or the only one who laughed, LOL.
We need strong gun control, period.
Then we can be like Mexico.
Or Brazil
Or Venezuela
My hands are my gun control.
Couple more DERP droppings before I go back to actually working:
Is there some Iron Law about the inverse relationship between a person's screen name and what they really are? 'Cause "KritikalThinker" here is anything but.
Gee, a Rush Limbaugh reference... that's topical.
I recall that Dorner and the Washington navy yard shooter was die hard Republicans.
Oh, wait.
Is there some Iron Law about the inverse relationship between a person's screen name and what they really are? 'Cause "KritikalThinker" here is anything but.
Are you saying that I have actually killed no one, nor am I running from anything? Are you saying I'm about as harmless as Gandhi, and I mean the old skinny guy, and not the young lawyer one who would sue your ass for looking at him sideways? Is that what you are saying? I'm hurt you can see right through the charade, at least you could have kept pretending!
I feel hampered by government and eat a lot of calories.
I'm covered in bacteria AND not a Smashing Pumpkins song.
Only a Republican gun fanatic would dress in camouflage at an airport. Has anyone seen Rush Limbuger lately?
Just like the Black Panthers. Yes, it is all clear now.
So now that we know it was a government agent, what are the commenters saying?
Goddamnit! No distraction from our failures this time!
WE MUST ARM ALL TSA SCREENERS.
Ugh, unfortunately that will be the most likely outcome.
Failure to remove footwear is a shoot-able offense
As terrible as it sounds, arming some of the mouth-breathers they use is likely to finally produce an incident they can't just shrug off as "needs retraining."
On the other hand, the cops have no shortage of those incidents and it usually just produces paid leave...
Crap. That's exactly what will come of this. Way to ruin my lunch break.
There it is. Now we know what this is really about.

Do we get to be "LA Strong" now?
It depends. Have they all but declared martial law to look for another suspect yet? I don't think we get to be LA Strong until after they lock down the entire fucking city for a whole day.
We didn't get to be LA Strong after the Dorner manhunt.
Sigh, so much commenting so little refreshing.
Yes. And next year the Angels will rebound from their terrible year and win a championship that binds the wounds of your shaken city, uniting all of you in a way that you no longer felt was possible.
THE ANGELS DO NOT PLAY IN LA
Yet. 😉
But the joke doesn't work with the Dodgers! They're already good!
They can be "LA Strong" during their NFL season.
3rd in the West looks too good on them. I cannot endorse this particular prediction.
What do you mean? They're the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Where else could they play. ::removes Clark Kent glasses::
Can we just wait for an earthquake for that? Maybe some slightly desaturated pictures of neighbors pulling neighbors out of ruined homes?
Or maybe we can just continue to be LA Strong following the Dorner thing.
Great. Just fucking great. Didn't we previously complain (as the TSA routinely did) that for a job to be considered dangerous, at least one person had to be hurt on the job?
Fuck, they finally have their one person...

Fly to LBG or SNA.
BTW, this is not true. Lots of takeoffs and landings right now. Only one part of the airport is closed and affecting arrivals to those gates.
I thought that sounded like BS. Why would they ground all flights just because one of their TSA agents low foreheads got tragically killed in the line of duty what was probably coming to him after groping one too many underage girls.
For fucks sake I already got a text from lib friend about the EVIL guns.
He used the term "America, home of the (gun) free(ks), so I'm sure that must be a new lefty thing that he read somewhere today.

Do you have a brochure I can read?
Sounds like they're parking planes from the affected terminal on the tarmac and deplaning via stairs and bussing passengers to another terminal.
That's surprising, thought for sure those poor bastards would be stuck for hours on the planes.
Aren't there rules about that now? You need a full meal and a foot rub or something if you're stuck on the tarmac for too long?
Yes, but I'm sure there's a security exemption. IOW, the rules apply to the airline-caused delays not government-caused delays.
You mean the way they used to plane and deplane in the old days?
They still do that at DCA for regional flights. There's something romantical about it. I always feel like turning around and waving at the top of the stairs.
As you all probably know, I'm a fan of old movies, and it's always interesting to see the way air travel is portrayed in those old films. Of course, they don't talk about the ridiculous prices.
Wait, you're a fan of old movies?
Some days I think I'm the only one here who has any taste in movies. :-p
As for old-timey air travel, there's a great scene in The High and the Mighty in which one of the passengers, panicking over the plane's mechanical difficulties, pulls out his gun and shoots, contributing to more problems with depressurization. When the passenger calms down, they give him his gun back.
fddpnt
You're overdoing it on the intentional typos, Anonbot.
I kinda like fddpnt
I'm trying to figure out how to pronounce it. "Fuddpunt?" Too bad it wasn't cntpnt...
It's Welch. Its pronounced "throat warbler mangrove"
Almost as good as Fhqwhgads.
Everybody to the Limit
"You're overdoing it on the intentional typos, Anonbot."
There are software settings that can adjust that, but it's a little tricky...
So the cops can apprehend a guy who shoots up LAX, but have to shoot some 13 year old kid with a toy gun in the back? I'm confused about appropriate and necessary force.
Officer safety, duh.
Nevermind, they killed him, too.
CBS is reporting in a tweet: the suspect is an off-duty TSA agent.
i'll try to post the link
Who will put an end to this goon on goon violence?
Obviously the poor agent just cracked from all the stress caused by the anti-government extremists in Congress trying to slash government to put them out of a job and take away their healthcare.
Let's hope that sticks. We've seen the media get things wrong before in the first few hours after a shooting.
It might actually be true for a change. At least they're not (AFAIK) trying to pin it on some RIGHTWING TEATHUGLIBAGGERCAN!!!!!1!!!
Damn, did I call that, or what?

Report now says TSA agent killed, 3 or 4 others wounded.
There's no sugar coating it, those already in line at the terminal 3 security check will have to move to terminal 2 for screening.
The white zone is for loading and unloading only.
Raysis!
Sigh. LOADING and UNLOADING.
Too soon?
This will be like the Capitol Hill murder:
"OMGOMGOMG! Active shooter on Capitol Hill! ZOMG! Gun control! Crazy people! Tea Partiers! TERRARIZMS! EEEEK! Wait...it was the cops doing the shooting? Oooohhh...ahhhhh...."
Followed by the look of a balloon deflating.
Alternatively (and probably a more apropos example):
"OMGOMGOMG! Active shooter at the Navy Yard! ZOMG! Gun control! Crazy people! Tea Partiers! TERRARIZMS! EEEEK! Wait...it was an employee with a security clearance doing the shooting? Oooohhh...ahhhhh...."
Followed by the look of a balloon deflating.
Can't wait until I hear more about how only highly trained security like TSA agents and cops should be allowed to carry weapons.
11:36 a.m. [PDT]: Law enforcement sources told The Times that the gunman was a TSA employee at LAX. The gunman was killed by authorities after he opened fire at LAX Friday. He allegedly shot ad killed a fellow TSA employee.
They seem to be really overreacting. Three people shot, one dead, police officer does his job and takes down the shooter. The sensible approach would be to close the security checkpoint where it happened, work the crime scene, and try to get everything back to normal as soon as possible, right?
Nope! Close and evacuate the airport, ground all the flights, and shut down all roads leading to and from the airport.
Apparently, no national security spectacle may go unexploited. Since this occurred in an airport, the entire national air traffic system must be brought to its knees.
Why do you hate America, thom?
/derp
So what's going on here? Another federal employee going postal? Or a botched false flag? The real question: will this finally distract us from the Obamacare Follies, and serve to more deeply bury the fact that the much lamented "federal shutdown" didn't really affect most people's lives at all?
Ok, JAM, if we're going to go all tinfoil on this (NTTAWWT):
The removal of electronic device restrictions on airline flights telegraphed that something like this would happen. They know the public can only take so much. They knew that if they were tightening security restrictions that they'd need to give us something. The device restriction was that something, and it had to happen before this incident so it wouldn't look suspicious.
Why do you hate America, Tonio?

This website needs a better class of troll and I'm gonna give it to them.
1) Nobody is celebrating. We're just not all that shocked that somebody would go nuts in an airport. Same reason every other friggin gun-free zone seems to attract the crazies (target rich environment)
2)Across the country, many people are shot each and every day. I'd imagine it's well over 1 per hour. Forgive me, but do we need to mourn every "tearjerker" that comes across the wire?
3)Your adhom is boring and uninspired.
I, therefore, shall class up your troll attempt:
"Come on guys, let's at least let the blood dry before we start implicitly blaming the victim for this. The TSA have a hard job that isn't made any easier by Randian hatred. Do you think they like groping granny and fondling little Billy? They're working hard, trying to get ahead in this Bush economy. First you try to take away their birth control, then you try to take away their right to health care, and now you're macroaggressing them in cold blood when all they want to do is go home in peace, watch some MSNBC, and fight the patriarchy."
Was anyone figuratively, hypothetically, or otherwise murdered but not actually?

TSA Agent Reported Shot at Los Angeles Airport [UPDATED--Shooter ID'ed, Said to Have Anti-Government Views]
If you shoot someone from the government, you have, by definition, anti-government views.
I don't believe a fucking word the news says at this point. They are salivating, every time, over it being a white male with anti-government views, preferably a registered Tea Partier. They report this shit every time.
Yep. First thing I heard, it was a blonde white guy, wearing camo, with a huge assault weapon.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we find out it was a 90 year woman with dark hair carrying a crossbow.
Every single time this happens, it always starts out being a radical tea bagger with scary assault weapon.
Here comes the crack-down on libertarians.
Prediction: They will put devices outside the doors to all airlines to screen for metal (I believe these are called metal detectors) and create long lines to get into the airport terminals in addition to the current screening inside. Once there is an incident at these external lines they will institute car searches on the way into the airport creating even longer lines of automobiles. This will continue ad nauseum until finally there are detectors and searches outside your driveway or maybe this part will just be done by drones (w/ hellfire missiles of course).
*conspiracy theory* They'll do minimal things that can be outwardly seen, but they'll hold onto this for another couple years as they ratchet up their citizen spying programs that target "anti-government" groups. Then, when the next Snowden comes along, they have a "good" excuse for their monitoring of "radicals"
Regardless of your views on the TSA this individual didn't deserve to be shot.
I find this odd, because I don't recall there being a clamoring chorus of people here (or anywhere for that matter) spouting out how "The TSA Deserve it!"
Meaning, it sounds as odd as me saying, "I Completely Oppose the Idea of a Military Invasion of Nova Scotia"
...because no one anywhere is actually proposing any such thing.
So, you making this statement presupposes an audience that actually feels differently. To wit = Who the fuck are you speaking to?
I'm sure they only people you will see cheering about this, are the gun control crowd, as always.
Fair enough,
Perhaps this was the wrong place to post.
I was more referring to the amount of shit stain comments you see on other sites covering this. CNN, USA Today, etc.
Well, since your butt-hurt seems to have come from those other sites, it would be more appropriate to respond to the source of the butt-hurt.
I would prefer that those who are employed in the public sector realize the error of their ways, repent, and spend the remainder of their days working towards correcting that mistake than to see them blown to bits in a revolution. that isn't going to happen though. Deserves have nothing to do with what happens in this life.
Well the MSM finally found their bitter clinger, anti-gov shooter. It only took them 5 tries in the last few years.
It's been fun kids...I'm gonna go crap in my own litter box, and get wasted for the last time before we're all carted off to the internment camps.
They aren't ready to let the mask slip that far, yet, methinks. Expect to experiencing more screening, coercion, hassling.
And if I'm wrong I call dibs on a bottom bunk.
When I was a kid, I feared that the top bunk would come crashing down on me when my brother creaked above me at night. So, you want the top bunk, it's yours.
You would call dibs on the bottom... Savage

I call dibs on a bottom bunk.

I was waiting for you to swing at that softball... Welcome to the party.

The bitter clinger didn't manage to kill anyone, so it's going to be tough to use this one. I can hear the gun grabbers grousing over what might have been if only they had gotten some more dead kids to use.
Strange: If you do a Google image search for "Paul Ciancia" one of the hits is for a Facebook account that was started about an hour ago. Someone playing a prank, I suppose.
"Anti Government Views"?!
The HORROR!
Okay guys, I'm no fan of the TSA either, but a person was brutally murdered today. Can we not demonize the dead and praise the murderer? It's uncalled for, and it just gives our haters on the left and right more ammunition to use against us. Please, the time now is for compassion, not politics.
I see you have read and studied my post on 'troll constructions 101'.

Uh, I'm not seeing a lot of praise for the murderer here.
But that is some decent concern-trolling. I'd say B-, but I'm a tough grader.
Was there a nationwide call for pompous, inhuman jerks to check in?
Why do the accused always have anti-government literature on them?
when the state clenches its fists, the citizens will fight back.
The TSA has been allowed to operate under both republican and democrat administrations. People are finally waking up that their votes do not mean anything. I'm afraid that restoring our rights through peaceful means is slowly becoming a dream now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSkik6EUQUc
(I support the Billy Ocean, FWIW)
They do? Who are the "accused"?
Because none of the recent mass shooters had anti-government literature.
What Lady Bertrum said, but I'd toss in the snark of sooner or later, all literature is anti-government.
Bravo.
I guess this incident has strengthened Maxine Waters support for the TSA. From her Facebook page:
First line of defense? A big line of people unnecessarily crowded together in a small place, whom pretty much anybody can walk up to with a gun or a bomb?
I'm not sure how the TSA defends against weapons and contraband being brought into our nation's airports, when The TSA only screens people who are leaving on outgoing flights.
But then it really does appear that there is no limit to the depths of this woman's stupidity.
So my neighbor just got home. Her commute takes her past LAX, apparently the whole airport is on lockdown and they're redirecting traffic from a few major arteries (including Sepulveda) out and around. She said there are also still helicopters and whatnot circling.
