Probation Officer Shoots and Kills 2-Year-Old Jack Russell Terrier, Said He Gave Dog Verbal Command to Get Back
300 pound man in fear of his life because of a 12 pound dog
Antoine Jones, a probation officer with the Albany Probation Office in Georgia, went to the home of Cherrie Shelton to check in on her son and ended up shooting her 12-pound Jack Russell terrier, Patches, killing him. Shelton apparently called the Albany Police Department on the officer, which means he gave a statement to police. The local Fox affiliate reports:
According to the report filed with the Albany Police Department, Officer Antoine Jones stands at 6 feet tall and weighs nearly 300 pounds. The responding officer quoted Jones in the report saying, "He stated that he gave the dog verbal commands to get back but the dog continued to come towards him in an aggressive manner so he fired one shot at the dog using his duty weapon."
Shelton says she can't understand why a man of his size would react that way to such a little dog and wants to know why he didn't make a kicking motion or stomp his foot to show that he didn't want Patches near him.
Shelton says Jones told her he shot the dog because he feared for his life. The Probation Officer defended its employees actions. Via the Fox affiliate:
On Oct. 7th, two Albany Probation Officers were conducting a field visit. During this time, an Albany Probation Officer was involved in an incident that required him to use use of force against an aggressive canine during a field visit. An incident report was filed and it was determined that the Probation Officer responded appropriately.
No report on whether police will file charges or whether Shelton will sue.

A perfect case that refutes all claims that cops don’t do this because they just want to shoot and kill things. He says all the usual phrases verbatim, and on top of it the size disparity is so ludicrous as to be laughable. “Feared for his life”, “verbal command”, “aggressive manner”, it’s all there. This shit is unbelievable.
The police ranks have been swelling with sociopaths for so long now, one has to wonder if there are any non-sociopaths left.
one has to wonder if there are any non-sociopaths left.
I don’t wonder.
…….. Said He Gave Dog Verbal Command to Get Back.
Is this all it takes to get out of felony animal cruelty charges……because if it is I know four dachshunds who are going to see the world differently tomorrow morning!
If he truly was in fear for his life from such a tiny animal, his judgement is far too flawed to be entrusted with the power that comes with a badge and gun. And the supervisors who have cleared him to continue are equally unqualified on the same grounds.
This is the same level of incompetence that we see in the school system “zero tolerance” cases – where the people who should be immediately terminated are not just the front line folks, but everyone who condones or endorses the behavior…. all the way to the top. Except in this case we aren’t talking about the power to remove a child from school, we are talking about people who have the power to take your freedom or your life. The standard of competence should be much higher.
“Shelton says Jones told her he shot the dog because he feared for his life.”
Indeed, lower intelligences do generally fear higher ones.
He is a total Sarlacc!!!
A probation officer with a gun? What am I missing?
Never mind… that was a mental derp.
Every type of low forehead job that traditionally did not carry a weapon has been agitating for them for a long time now, because the type of people who often go into probation officer, or corrections officer, etc. are usually wannabe cops who really want the power that comes with carrying a gun. Fuck, I bet there are a ton of federal employees that didn’t use to carry guns that do now.
For example – the Bureau of Industry and Security. They do export control, that is, they keep american businesses from selling the cool shit we have to uncool people overseas.

They have guns. Why? 9/11 that’s why.
As a side benefit, it gets them to buy all the ammo and keep it out of normal people’s hands.
9/11 was the excuse; you know they wanted them beforehand. Carrying a gun in your official capacity is the ultimate for these kind of people. It means they’re “real cops” and have arrest powers, which is what they always wanted.
For example, don’t you think TSA agents would love to carry guns?
For example, don’t you think TSA agents would love to carry guns?
Nahh….wouldn’t that interfere with the groping of senior citizens? There are practical considerations here.
Oh, God. Totally. The ranks of these guys are littered with failed cops, who probably couldn’t even hide the fact that they wanted to become cops because of things like the power to carry, etc. Pathetic. This story is pathetic. A fucking Jack Russell? I hope somebody really whips this guy’s ass one night at a bar.
Not sure what I’d do if some asshole shot one of my dogs? My dogs are members of the family. One thing I’m certain of, you wouldn’t want to be the guy that rolls those dice. It could go either way.
I can understand the fear of bites; small dogs bite like big ones, and the bites hurt. But, hey, tuff gai cop, ‘fear for your life’?!
I used to work for UPS. Their drivers are routinely assaulted by small, irritating dogs. The drivers don’t drop-kick the mutts because one, it’s a business and you don’t want to piss off a customer, and two, they’re not scum.
Strange how every residential-oriented business in the country can come up with non-lethal solutions to family pets, but law enforcement can only kill. Shows a lack of imagination, if nothing else.
The guy who used to drive our route would go out and buy various kinds of dog treats. He would get to know the dogs on his route, and learn what kinds of treats each one liked.
AND HE WOULD GIVE THEM A TREATS. BECAUSE HE LIKED THEM.
The guy who used to drive our route would go out and buy various kinds of dog treats.
But the police can’t resist eating those treats before they encounter the dogs.
Maybe we need to come up with a line of “Police Chow” that temporarily distracts them from their typical sociopathy.
Serious question: how many news stories are out there telling us about officers being mauled in the line of duty? Hell, I’ll even accept bitten if mauled is too high a standard.
All that proves is the training works.
Dog bites man is not news.
Unless the man is a police.

Fucking squirrels in my iPhone.
Serves you right for using iShit. :-p
The proper term is “jerkPhone”.
Yet it seems that most of time the true jerks are the one telling iPhone user that their stuff is shit, and that all users are jerks.
I don’t think that number has increased much since the last time you asked this question. 😉
Clearly, this officer has never read any Gary Larson.
Gary Larson doesn’t understand what this fine Peace Officer did: that dog’s understand English the same as the rest of us, and if they don’t obey, you shoot them, the way you would any person.
A person exhibiting this behavior would also be shot. Ask any of the PoliceOne commenters, they’ll tell you how it is.
Clearly, this officer is functionally illiterate.
We’re all dancing around the real issue here. The dude had a BMI of over 40. She’s lucky she didn’t have to watch him eat the dog after he shot it.
Oh, to any cops reading this:
# of dogs I’ve been confronted by and had to navigate around. Too many to count. # of dogs I’ve shot: 0.
And don’t give me any of that shit about the fact that you’re there has escalated the situation. He’s walking up to the house to ring the fucking bell and ask Johnny if he’s been going to class. This was not a high-stress situation with you kicking in doors and throwing flash-bangs.
Anyone who (whom?) is a-feared for his life by the aggressive advances of a twelve pound dog should
A. not carry a gun and
2. never leave the sanctuary of his own home.
cheese and rice.
No, he should be institutionalized as a danger to himself and others.
According to our resident Law And Order Libertarian, this will just be used to fuel our H&R meme.

Required… “required”… I don’t think that word means what you think it does.
Required, allowed… in bureaucratland the words means the same thing. Remember when health insurance was allowed?
I really wish some one would shoot back at one of these worthless jerkoffs. Had that been my Jack I don’t think I’d have been able to stop myself.
Who knows though, the terrier might have had a rock and sling.
I bet he shot the dog because he knows in his heart that the pooch gets more pussy than he does and takes bigger shits.
What you pissed off cuz your dad gets more pussy than you?
Fuck you
Suck my fuckin’ dick
Brave, brave man. Putting his life on the line, every day, for us, to protect us from terrorism. He should get a paid vacation.
Why do you loserdrugtarian whackjobs want our men to be eaten by wahabbist terror beagles?
“He stated that he gave the dog verbal commands to get back but the dog continued to come towards him in an aggressive manner so he fired one shot at the dog using his duty weapon.”
“Huh, that dog is barking at me. Wait, they covered how to handle this in training… oh right… BLAM!! BLAM!! BLAM!!”
First he said, “Stop Resisting”, “Stop Resisting”, and then he thought, opps, wrong training, BLAM!
Where’s Tulpa to defend this?
300 Lbs eh? What a fucking coward.
Anyone who shoots a troublesome dog is a friend of mine.
People, you’ve gotta understand that dogs are no more precious than the cattle that you eat. Except they are annoying at best and dangerous at worst.
Fuck.
You.
Pussy.
Agreed. I’m looking forward to when you get shot.
This HAS to be sarcasm.
If so, I withdraw my comment. But I didn’t take it that way.
“People, you’ve gotta understand that dogs are no more precious than the cattle that you eat.”
So in other words, they’re more valuable than some pigs in uniform?
I say we find out where this turd’s office is and start mailing him panties. The kind a six year old girl would wear. That would send the right message.
I’d like to point out that dogs don’t usually take commands from strangers.
Hell, my puppy only takes commands from me when he is done doing what he wants and is ready to do what I “command” him to do.
No, I jest, he’s a good pup; every now and then he will give me the stick so I can throw it for him…
That sociopath needs to be exterminated. Since his name is Antoine, the mental picture is a fat, stupid, AA hire. Just sponging off the gubmint and ruining people’s lives.
Sure, maybe a dog’s life isn’t worth much to society. But at least dogs aren’t a scourge like these lazy government nigs. When they “work” for the government, in which they are over-represented, just like in the correctional system, they are basically just on a different form of Welfare.
Fuck off, American.
I think anyone who’s six feet and 300 pounds should be deemed unfit for law enforcement work. I think this every time I see certain of my county’s deputies.
Serious question: Does tasering a dog work?
BACON!
Responded appropriately? That’s sick. These people are twisted. Just because it’s a dog, it doesn’t mean you’re not a sociopathic criminal.
