Poll: 82 Percent Say US Losing War on Drugs

A new Rasmussen poll finds 82 percent of Americans believe the so-called War on Drugs is failing. This is similar to what Reason-Rupe found in September 2012 when 80 percent of Americans said the War on Drugs has been a failure. At that time, a third of Americans thought the federal government should spend less money fighting the drug war, and a quarter wanted to spend more. A plurality (40 percent) wanted to keep spending the same.
Americans under 35 are significantly more likely than Americans over 35 to say the US should spend less money fighting the drug war by a margin of 44 to 27 percent. Men are also more likely than women to favor cutting spending 39 to 25 percent.
In 2009 Rasmussen found that while 38 percent of likely voters thought the War on Drugs diverts police away from focusing on higher-priority crimes, nearly an equal number disagreed.

Only 18% of people surveyed were complete morons.
More like 40%. "It's failing, but we should keep everything the same."
Actually, only 4% said the US was winning. 14% were undecided.
Do cops make up 4% of the population yet?
Hey, I said "complete" morons.
One look at our government will tell you there are many levels to becoming a complete moron.
The other 18% are in prison for drug convictions.
...and a quarter wanted to spend more. A plurality (40 percent) wanted to keep spending the same.
In other words, the majority wants to continue with the failed policy or spend more on the failed policy. Hooray.
Duh. If at first you don't succeed, steal more money from your subjects to throw at the problem.
It's like erosion. You just need to wear down the druggies. Eventually, human nature will be different and no one will want drugs anymore.
Accelerated evolution.
+1 Lysenkoism
Erosion or attrition?
I like wars of attrition...
If you're a prosecutor, defense attorney, prison guard, receiver of confiscated goods, provider of mandatory treatment, probation officer, or otherwise profit from the war on drug users, then the war is going just fine.
Please be nuanced enough to recognize that there are defense attorneys who have challenged the constitutionality of prohibition statutes and who do not otherwise represent peeps charged with drug crimes.
This is proof that we need to fight harder, and increase funding.
I have a friend who believes that. Totally againt pot, even as medicine.
When he's not looking you should spike his food with epilepsy.
Let me guess: legal alcohol is fine?
Of course...
...it's legal.
If it's legal, it must be good for you!
At least that's what I'm going to tell myself and others as my alcoholism progresses.

I'm not an alcoholic. I just like to drink. A lot.
Somehow you just reminded me of all the assholes that think if you have even one or two beers a week you're an alcoholic.
There's not much worse than those fuckers.
If you drink enough to enjoy yourself then you are sinning. They're modern Puritans.
I thought about AA...
...but who wants to hang out with a bunch of quitters?
Funny, that was my logic on quitting smoking.
Momma didn't raise no quitter!

Momma didn't raise no quitter!
I'm glad I quit the cigarettes. Don't miss that whole cough-until-you-puke thing every morning. And I don't miss paying all those taxes either.
This. Been three years Oct 11. Not that the date is burned in my memory...like a burn from a hot ash on my fingers when I let that delicious butt burn a little too far...
I feel so much better it's ridiculous.
Meh, I quit for 3 years before. Just don't see a reason to prolong living.
My parents both quit a long time ago, but the damage was done. They've both got COPD. For my mother it's not so bad, but for my dad it sucks. He's constantly coughing and taking sips of water because his lungs simply do not clean themselves. At some point he's going to literally drown in his own snot if something else doesn't get him first. That's a pretty shitty way to go.
I quit dipping on 15 Oct 1999. I still occasionally dream about it.
I've gone to a few meetings under duress from people who "care," and I found it to be a big sympathy-fest.
"Oh woe is me! I'm a worm! I have no self control! I must surrender and submit to a higher power! Only a higher power can save me because I am powerless over my own life! I cannot control my urges! I am a slave to my impulses! Woe is me!"
Sympathy is in the dictionary between shit and syphilis, you fucking losers. C-ya!
Yeah - drinking and pot? I just kind of stopped. Still drink some (not like when I was doing a fifth of gin in a night)....it was easy for me. Understand that it's harder for lots of people. Too bad for them...I haz a sad 🙁
Drugs are bad because they're illegal, and they're illegal because they're bad!
Circular reasoning FTW!
You forgot about "mmmkay?"
The Surge worked!
I always forget - who are the good guys in this war?
The Dogs.
Awesome - I love dogs!
The drugs.
We need to double down!
I'll do twice the drugs if you will...
You mean double up.
MOAR mandatory sentencing!
Save our chilrenz!
Men are also more likely than women to favor cutting spending
WHY DO THEY HATES TEH CHILRUN?
Mars Libertarianism needs women!
On a serious note, is there any reason that I shouldn't drink myself to death?
Are you talking about a single episode of alcohol poisoning? Or, a long descent into alcoholism and liver cirrhosis?
Well, quick descent into alcoholism for me. Long road to cirrhosis of the liver though. Maybe. We could have a contest?
One reason not to drink yourself to death is that I enjoy your presence and comments on these boards. You would be missed.
Sammy Da Bull is not gonna like that at all.

We're losing the War on Drugs, sir. What are your orders?
Increase speed, drop down, and reverse direction!
Prohibition was a direct result of letting women vote, and the same goes for the drug war.
