Agreement Reportedly Reached on Immigrant Guest Worker Program

Business vs. labor unions on terms

The nation's top business and labor groups have reached an agreement on a guest worker program for low-skilled immigrants, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said on Saturday. The deal clears the path for broad immigration legislation to be introduced when Congress returns from its two-week recess in mid-April.

Senator Charles E. Schumer, a New York Democrat and one of eight senators from both parties who have been negotiating an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, convened a conference call on Friday night with Thomas J. Donohue, the president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Richard L. Trumka, the president of the A.F.L.-C.I.O., the nation's main federation of labor unions, in which they agreed in principle on a guest worker program for low-skilled, year-round temporary workers.

  2. Unions now represent ~10% of American workers, and well under that if you ignore the gov’t parasites, so they’re not at the table as speakers for labor.
They’re there only because of their political contributions. Why not invite the rest of the lobbyists to the discussion?

  3. The only immigration reform we need is a complete halt for at least 40 years and starting to remove a non citizens that are here currently.

I would hope you are one of the recent immigrants?
I’d say removing your ignorant ass would be a great gain!

  4. I’m still philosophically for immigration. But the growing welfare state is a serious problem.

  5. Unemployment rates among African/American high school drop outs is over 85% and climbing. Millions of illegal immigrants are picked for low skilled jobs, Americans drop outs are ignored. Illegals are downing tacos and washing it down with tequila while millions of young African/Americans go hungry. Politicians are favoring brown skinned Mexicans over black skinned Americans, that is called racism.
