Vancouver Cop Caught on Video Punching Cyclist
New professionalism up north
A video appears to show a Vancouver police officer punching a cyclist in the face while arresting him for running a red light.
The amateur footage, captured by the arrested man's friend on a camera phone, shows the unidentified officer allegedly punching the cyclist in the side of the face when he asks why he is being arrested.
Andi Shae Akhavan was cycling home in Yaletown on Tuesday night when he was stopped for running through a red light in the city without a helmet or a night light.

Technology strikes again. Applied intelligently, it can and will improve almost every human condition. It will be interesting to watch the correlation between cameras and allegations, or real instances, of police brutality. I would expect these to rise for a while, as more are uncovered, then decline precipitously as the effect of the cameras is felt in the courts.

I know I must be sympathetic to the cyclist, I just have to deal with them too often. So give me a minute, I'm sure I will be.
