From the Edmonton Journal:

Bob Erb has been buying lottery tickets for 43 years, and his persistence finally paid off.

On November 9th, the Terrace, British Columbia resident discovered that he held a winning ticket that split the $50 million jackpot from the November 2 draw. […]

Before he was a lottery winner, Erb might have been better-known to the Terrace community for his campaigns to legalize and decriminalize marijuana. He ran for the B.C. Marijuana Party in 2001.

On a related note, in a HuffPost Live discussion about SuperPACs this morning, I floated the idea of a SuperPotPAC to topple horrid D.A.s and fund legalization initiatives. Watch below:

I'd actually write a check to the PotPAC.

Hey Matt, I liked the part where you were all logical and reasonable (drink!) and everyone on the panel agreed with your points. Hopefully your arguments will stick with the panelists, and the viewers of HuffPost Live. Thanks for doing these types of appearances and spreading the message of free minds, free markets.

Oh yeah, you were also the only panelist that got some laughs. Thanks for having a personality, too.

What are the chances that his winnings become subject to asset forfeiture?

    1. Aresen   13 years ago

      Almost zero.

In Canada, the government has to prove a crime has been committed and that the assets are the proceeds of the crime before they can obtain a court order to seize the assets.

(BTW: Lottery winnings are tax free in Canada.)
