Washington State Marijuana Legalization Campaign Has $4 Million
Money's pouring in to help legalize marijuana
The campaign war chest for Initiative 502, which would legalize marijuana, swelled by more than $1 million on Monday with new donations from an Ohio insurance magnate and two executives of the Kirkland-based Riverstyx Foundation.
Peter Lewis, chairman of Progressive Insurance, donated $670,000 and $32,000 — bringing his total donations to $1.555 million. The 78-year-old Lewis is a longtime booster of legalization, hitherto best known as a financial angel of the Marijuana Policy Project and the American Civil Liberties Union.
