Brian Doherty on Ron Paul's Continuing Revolution
Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), who will retire at the end of his current term, is attending his last Republican National Convention as a sitting congressman and presidential hopeful. This weekend, Paul backers are holding several events in the Tampa, Florida area and he will also be a major presence at the Republican National Convention that starts on Monday.
Reason Senior Editor Brian Doherty's latest book is Ron Paul's Revolution: The Man and the Movement He Inspired. Back on May 2, 2012, he talked with ReasonTV about how the libertarian ob-gyn from the Lone Star State will continue to reshape the Republican Party, national politics, and America's youth long after he's left Congress.
Original text:
"Ron Paul invented the notion of a populist, activist, modern movement thats transpartisan" says Reason's Brian Doherty
Brian Doherty sat down with ReasonTV to talk about his new book and how Ron Paul has changed politics in America. Doherty wrote about the evolution of the libertarian movement in his 2007 book "Radicals for Capitalism: A Freewheeling History of the Modern American Libertarian Movement". He has been following and writing about Ron Paul and his movement since then. Doherty examines Ron Paul's influence in a new book out May 15, "Ron Paul's rEVOLution: The Man and the Movement He Inspired".
Brian Doherty "documents the meteoric rise of Paul from relative obscurity to national prominence, and examines the fanatically devoted political movement that has arisen around him."
Doherty spoke with ReasonTV in January while covering the Iwoa caucusto talk about Ron Paul's campaign and the movement that has been built around him primarily over the past four years.

If the momentum he generated brings down the Fed, he'll go down in history as a great American hero.
Also, 1st.
Why does Doherty have a Krugman beard?
Why don't we all have Krugman beards? Huh...huh....
itchy
Plus some of us are not so swarthy.
Because my beard is red?
Someone should write a book.
Somebody should write a book AND plug it every opportunity he can find.
Meanwhile, in the sane candidate universe:
President Barack Obama said Mitt Romney has locked himself into "extreme positions" on economic and social issues and would surely impose them if elected.
Mr. Obama in an interview said his likely Republican opponent for the presidency lacks serious ideas, refuses to "own up" to the responsibilities of what it takes to be president and deals in factually dishonest arguments that could soon haunt him in face-to-face debates.
"Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the most deluded candidate of all?"
I saw that on yahoo. I laughed my ass off for a good 5 minutes afterwards.
that could soon haunt him in face-to-face debates.
So basically Obama admits defeat until the debates...where he hopes to bedazzle the voters with his great debating skills sans teleprompter.
Sorry to cloud your narrative (I agree with it) but the horse race aspects of the Obama quotes needed comment.
Barack Obama is what a smart person sounds like to a dumb person that's convinced himself he's smart (ie a liberal).
A hero for all mankind, Neil Armstrong passes at age 82
I think we all know who to blame.
I guess he won't be getting revenge for his mailbox then. Or maybe this is all part of his plan.
The trap has been set.
Three words: Rods from God.
Someone get Banjos and the baby out of the house.
"Hey what's this? A cool new mailbox for our new farm? Where did that come from?"
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Okay...I've heard references to a certain "first man to walk on the moon's" mailbox and a frequent commenter here.
What exactly did Sloopy do? I've never heard the full story.
He said that he bashed Armstrong's mailbox as a kid in Ohio.
Heard this on the way back from the Air Show. We had a moment of silence in the car.
RIP Neil FUCKING Armstrong!
Four people whose names will echo throughout eternity: Jesus, Christopher Columbus, Albert Einstein, and Neil Frakin' Armstrong.
Aristotle gets no love.
Thanks to NBC, you can add Neil Young to that list, as well.
Shoot, I added the wrong link. Here's the story.
http://gawker.com/5937870/nbc-.....neil-young
Why is he a "hero"?
He did pilot the moon landing and if you ever played one of those moon landing simulators is pretty damn impressive.
Still i would not call it heroic. Just damn good piloting skills....of course a computer can and should do it now.
Blasphemer! Three words, again:
Neil FUCKING Armstrong.
Three more words:
That is all.
Norman Burlong is a hero.
Neil Armstrong was just an ace pilot who passed some weird tests.
Why is he a "hero"?
He strapped his ass to a rocket that could just as well kill him as take him to the Moon. That qualifies in my book.
That goes for Buzz Fucking Aldrin (that's his real middle name) and Michael Collins too.
He strapped his ass to a rocket that could just as well kill him as take him to the Moon
You could find 10s of million Americans who would be willing to do that.
Hell there are 10s of millions of Americans who would pay money to do that.
Shut the fuck up corning. Jebus.
I think i will try this name for awhile.
You're shittin' me, right? Norman Borlaug's monumental accomplishment required no courage whatsoever. So he's a hero and Neil Armstrong isn't?! That notion is patently warped - and just a smidge trollish, of course.
Borlaug went against the conventional wisdom and was openly mocked by doomsayers.
Secondly he did it of his own choice. He conceived it then he did it.
Armstrong on the other hand filled out an application to work for the government. Lucky for hi he fit the criteria for the job. I am jealous. Still does not make him a hero.
How about Chuck Yeager? Flying in space is great and all, but those guys had dozens of highly trained engineers backing them up when things went wrong.
Yeager not only flew mutliple combat missions during WWII and Korea, he also routinely strapped himself to experimental high altitude jet craft and at one point flew to an altitude that can be reasonably called 'space'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cq7hf4ylvY
Well sure, the list of heroes is as long as your arm. Chuck Yeager is thinking about Neil Armstrong right now.
Neil also flew multiple combat missions in Korea.
"Good Luck, Mr. Gorsky!"
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/mrgorsky.asp
Of course, if he were a "real" hero, he wouldn't have flubbed his lines.
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/onesmall.asp
Oh, perhaps because he commanded mankind's crowning achievement? Because he had balls the size of watermelons?
Godspeed Neil Armstrong.
Oh, perhaps because he commanded mankind's crowning achievement?
Err what? I do not think so. A team of engineers commanded that achievement. Armstrong commanded the inside of a tin can for a month or so.
Also the internet is closer to mankind's crowning achievement.
Because he had balls the size of watermelons?
You cuz if NASA asked you if you would travel to the moon you would say no...way to risky.
Give me a fucking break.
God you are a fucking dickhead. You apparently have absolutely NO CONCEPT of the work and dedication involved with being one of the original astronauts. Not all government jobs involve sitting at a desk for 40 years waiting for a pension.
Fuck off and die in a fire. ASSHOLE!
This guy seems to specialize in douchebaggery (amongst which was that gratuitous GOT spoiler that he slipped in a month or so ago, remember?). I keep forgetting what an insufferable troll he is; please kick me next time I'm tempted to provide him with a response to jerk his gherkin to.
amongst which was that gratuitous GOT spoiler that he slipped in a month or so ago
Tyrion Lannister dies in the fourth book.
Anyway you need to relax big guy. Same with Francisco d Anconia.
Sorry I do not share your love of Armstrong...we disagree. The difference is unlike you I do not hate you because we disagree.
Why is he a "hero"?
Geez, I don't know. Maybe we should go to the dictionary for a little help with your quandary:
definition 1: one who demonstrates great courage and nobility, esp. one who is considered a model or ideal.
one who is considered a model or ideal.
I guess he was ideal for the mission...but i can find an "ideal" garbage collector as well...does not make him a hero.
Some say he is the Stig's real father.
Can anyone account for sloopy's whereabouts in the last 24 hours?
November 7, 2012, no one in Washington D.C. will give shite one about Ron Paul, his followers or their concerns. The gold standard will not be discussed, the Fed will not be audited, the United States Tax Code will continue to bloat unmolested. Foreign policy will not be adjusted to reflect the fiscal realities of the day, and federal regulators will fear not for their jobs.
That is all.
Well of course. How can the GOP attend to the economy when it must place all its energies in defending what some pig-shit ignorant yokel thinks about rapeifyin'.
Looks like.
OT (kinda): Ok, Paleo-conspiracy nuts. You can rest easy now. No more searching the skies for black helicopters and no more looking over your shoulders for Illuminati-Zionist-Freemason-Lizard People. It's offical:
"It's absolutely ridiculous," said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's spokesman, Martin Nesirky, when asked if the United Nations had any plans to invade Texas.
He later added: "No one, not even the United Nations, would ever mess with Texas."
P.S. Link
Now all we have is fistfighting Buzz Aldrin.
OT:
Yes, it was the cops who wounded 9 yesterday:

Or your fave AP reseller.
Oh, and it's a good thing no dogs were around...
Anyone else a little concerned about Doherty's, over the top, may snap and kill people, obsession with Ron Paul?
I mean, I like the guy too, but Jesus!
"Ron Paul is just alright with me."
Well since the rest of the media ignores him, someone should point out his achievements.
He wrote a book on the subject and he was assigned to cover to campaign.
Can't a guy love his job?
nice job, lakewood SWAT
http://www.komonews.com/news/l.....32565.html
(note: lakewood is the city that a couple of years back had 4 of their officers killed by maurice clemons while they sat in a coffee shop. clemons was later killed in seattle by an SPD officer after he tried to ambush an officer there by leaving out a stolen car to draw him in)
LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A man armed with a gun was shot by police Saturday after he took hostages during a tense standoff at a Lakewood credit union, officials said.
Police rushed to the scene, the Washington State Employees Credit Union branch at 9540 Bridgeport Way Southwest, at about 12:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a weapon inside, said Lt. Jeff Alwine of the Lakewood police.
Armed officers and a SWAT team surrounded the credit union and could see an armed man inside the credit union with several employees and customers he had taken hostage.
As officers monitored the tense situation inside the credit union, they ordered everyone in the streets around the area to leave. Customers at a Bank of America branch across the street also were escorted out by police who used shields to protect them.
Sometime later, the suspect showed himself to police as he held a hostage. Fearing that hostage and others were in imminent danger, a SWAT team officer shot and injured the suspect, and he went down. The hostage was not hurt.
LITCHFIELD, CT?Though she was initially upset following the brutal sexual assault last month that left her pregnant, victim Martha Byars told reporters she was relieved Sunday to learn from Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) that her ability to conceive her unwanted child proves she was not, in fact, legitimately raped.
"Being violently coerced into having sex was the worst thing that's ever happened to me, so I take comfort in knowing it wasn't actually rape," Byars said of the vicious encounter in which she was accosted in an alleyway by a stranger, pinned to the ground, and penetrated against her will for 25 minutes. "It was absolutely horrific?I felt violated in the worst way imaginable?but thanks to Congressman Akin, I now realize it must, at some level, have been consensual after all."
"Thank God for that," Byars added. "I'm so relieved to know that my child's father, the man who muffled my screams as he forcefully penetrated me over and over and left me hemorrhaging to death on the street, is not a rapist."
http://www.theonion.com/articl.....5925417366
somebody needs to do some kind of akin/whoopie goldberg cage match to decide once and for all, when it's rape, when it's rape rape, when it's legitimate rape and when it's just another fucking saturday night

That is kind of dark for The Onion.
Does anyone else get the ads that overlap the bottom right corner of the utube videos so you can't hit the full screen button? Not the first time I've seen that here.
