One Year After Beating University of Maryland Student John J. McKenna, Two Maryland Police Officers Indicted
On March 3, 2010, the University of Maryland mens basketball team defeated Duke in a major upset. That night two Prince George's County police officers dressed in riot gear beat the living shit out of an unarmed UM student who was, along with many other students, celebrating victory in the streets outside the arena. More than a year later, and thanks to a rather explicit video, those officers have been indicted and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and misconduct in office, according to the Washington Post.
According to State's Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks, who was elected earlier this year, the investigation got off to a slow start because PG County police were reluctant to cooperate. The attorney representing indicted officer Reginald Baker is already waging a public campaign against the state's attorney's office. "This case is not about police misconduct," William C. Brennan told WaPo. "It is about the lawlessness and destructive riots following University of Maryland athletic events."

The lack of euphemisms is excellent.
But do we really know what happened ? Let's not rush to judgment until all the facts are in.
Two Prince George's County police officers dressed in riot gear were engaging an unarmed UM student when the living shit got beaten out of him.
In all seriousness, if you're going to dress police up in riot gear, how can you expect police not to riot a little?
Cleverest thing I've read in weeks. My hat is doffed to you, FoE.
Reginald Baker is already waging a public campaign against the state's attorneys office. "This case is not about police misconduct," William C. Brennan told WaPo. "It is about the lawlessness and destructive riots following University of Maryland athletic events."
Indeed it is! Lawlessness and destructive behavior committed by your client!
I'll be amazed if they get more than probation, considering the BART murderer only got 2 years. I mean, they're better than us, and deserve better, right?
They are generally held to a much lower standard than a private citizen.
If they have video evidence of me beating the crap out of a guy, I'll bet the county can manage to get me indicted in less than a year.
If they had video of you beating a cop, I bet you would get indicted in less than 48 hours.
Or shot.
If they had video of you beating a cop, I bet you would get indicted executed in less than 48 hours.
FTFY
And the blatant lies in the charge they filed against the student they beat...hell Martha Stewart went to prison for lying about something less significant...why shouldn;t everyone (PD) involved be put in jail for lying about the charges they filed...I mean, presuming the beating alone wasn't enough to convict them.
Cops perjure themselves all the time.
Blah blah double standard blah blah.
You've heard it before.
When the evidence can't be contained entirely within a sympathetic police department, that is. When it's not out there for all to see, good luck finding justice.
What is "video" anyway? If the video camera is just the retina of mind's eye, isn't all video subject to the tricks that the mind can play? Maybe this is just epiphenomena. This guy claims to have been beaten. Is it necessary a assume beating took place as the only "evidence" was made by untrustable "video." What if he was "beaten" by an unknown force and the brave officers are helping him fight off this invisible ghost ninja creature that can resist being recorded on so-called video technology? We can't hear what he said, there is no "audio" as such, even if sounds and tympanic action can even occur through such an unreliable recording medium. So maybe he asks the officers to "beat" him. Maybe it's a sex game gone wrong. I mean, we can never really know anything, right?
Actually, you dumbed into something there. I've watched the video, but am I remembering what I saw on the video correctly. I watched it again, but once it's over, it's solely in my memory, which can be faulty. Also, invisible aliens.
You missed your calling as a police union lawyer, dude.
[slaps Episiarch with dueling glove]
Challenge accepted. Epees at dawn. You are trained with them like me, right? Ha ha ha ha!
Warty is my second.
Even. Better. I shall take...JW.
JW has got reach, but Warty is 200 pounds of muscle-bound rage. And he can build lasers and shit. Can JW build lasers and shit?
Worse. I have children that will avenge my death. Eventually. Once the insurance money runs out.
There is a fine line between avenging and scavenging...
...build lasers and shit?
At the same time?
I am confident that Warty can do a vast number of things while defecating.
Yes, but JW can impersonate Morena Baccarin and distract you during the duel. I may not kill you, though; just humiliate you.
SugarFree's text is slightly misleading. I shit lasers.
Plus, it's more like 240 pounds of muscle-bound rage.
Do you like using your muscle bound rage to kick the shit out of people? Because I know a career where they're looking for people like you.
As it so happens, I pay good money to kick the shit out of people and sometimes get the shit kicked out of me. Are you saying I can get paid while working from home, doing what I love?
You could even have a movie made out of your life!
"Cop by day - Mixed Martial Arts fighter by night! The Warty Wartinson Story"
Caged Justice: The Warty Story.
Plus, it's more like 240 pounds of muscle-bound rage.
I always err on the low side when guessing a ladies' weight.
That is the best thing to do with enraged ladies.
So, false arrest isn't really that serious a thing? Falsifying evidence, nothing?
Ouch. That was one country ass kicking. I hope he made a full recovery and I hope the cops get 5-10 in gen-pop.
misconduct in office
This, in my view, is the sole justifiable use of the death penalty.
PG County police were reluctant to cooperate
I blame the Maryland legislature.
hey robc, did you make it to Zwanze Day at the Holy Grale last Saturday? 21 cities worldwide and Louisville was one...damn.
No. I thought about it though.
I wasn't able to make it up from Nashville but I know several folks who went.
You ever been to Sergio's World Beers? Place looks like heaven from here-who knew Louisville was such a beer town? Not this guy...
You don't have to abuse alcohol to live in KY, but it certainly helps.
(State Motto)
Sergio's is...interesting. I prefer Holy Grale, although it can be pricy at times.
Louisville is becoming a very good beer town.
Good officers turn in the bad ones all the time. Or something like that.
dueling glove
This, hopefully, is a special glove, with a slurry of birdshot and nitroglycerin in the fingers.
It's a special glove, but not for the reasons you suggested.
When you slap someone, they stay slapped?
Mainly because the glove sticks to the side of their face.
SMELL THE GLOVE
You should have seen the album cover they wanted...it wasn't a glove, I can tell you that.
Warty is my second.
This made me think of Butch Cassidy: "I hate to sound like a poor loser, but if he wins, kill him."
Has there ever been a video of a cop beating that has corroborated their story?
Don't be absurd.
PG County police were reluctant to cooperate.
No way! Get the hell out! Who could have seen that coming?
"This case is not about police misconduct,"
BOOOOOOOOOOOOL SHEEEEEEEEET.
Where is Dunphy on this thread? Perhaps he can explain how an entire posse of cops in riot gear can a) watch their brethren beat up an innocent citizen and b) then conspire in allowing false charges to be filed against the victim?
Astra, the part you didn't see (or more correctly hear) in the video was how the rioting citizen was up in the one horse's grill and he was all "hey fuck you pig" and that's why the other jackboots... ahem "concerned officers" rushed to peacefully subdue the citizen.
That's EXACTLY what I was thiking, "Hey,
wheres' that assclown Dunphy at?"
Perhaps he has finally realized that his wicked drivel only tends to make it worse for the vicious pigs.
b) then conspire in allowing false charges to be filed against the victim?
I would chalk this one up to the thin blue line, the most successful anti-snitching campaign ever.
I am shocked and amazed that dunphy isn't here urging us all to avoid rushing to judgement and reminding us all how our policecop overlords deserve to be given the benefit of the doubt.
You forgot the part where he is appalled by this incident but is sure that justice will be done and none of his buddies would ever do a thing like that and if we could just come along on a few DV calls we would understand a whole lot more.
I don't even get the mentality of guys who would just assault a guy like that, for doing absolutely nothing. And it took a goddamn year to decide these cocksuckers did something a bit untoward???
