Helpful Advice (Indiana Edition)
1. Watch out for fake cops.
2. But if there's any chance the folks trying to get into your house are police, you'd better let them in.

I mostly like living in Indiana, but this is really f'd up. Must be one of those "unintended consequences" I keep hearing about.
Just an Isolated Incident, folks! Nothing to see here, move along! Move along! All is well, citizens!
My nuts don't even hurt, Jesse. You're mailing it in. Linking to your own post from...two, three weeks ago? WEAK!
I knew Radley Balko (not really). Radley Balko was a friend of mine (I follow him on Twitter). And Jesse Walker, you're no Radley Balko (although I also follow you on Twitter).
You gotta try harder if you want me to say:
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!

The fourth amendment is going to suffer death by a thousand cuts, thanks to these court decisions. I imagine it won't be long before the fifth suffers a similar fate.
I'm beginning to think we don't need to do anything to stop the creeping police state. Just sit back, and watch it collapse under the weight of its own absurdity.
Watch out for fake cops? Don't be silly. REAL cops have halos, so it's easy to tell who's who.
I thought it was their blue PlayerID tags floating over their heads?
You live with those turned on? Eww.
I PWNED myself.
lulz!
3. If you have a firearm and are thinking about carrying it with you just in case those men at the door aren't police...well, don't.
He added that part of the problem was that it was easy for civilians to buy "police products," like fake badges, handcuffs and uniforms. "The states need to lock this down and make impersonating a police officer a more serious crime because we're seeing more people using these types of these things to commit more serious crimes," he said.
Moar priznerz, plz!
Yes, the people using police uniforms to commit robbery, assault, rape and murder, all of which have severe penalties, will sure stop once the act of using police uniforms also comes with severe penalties.
Oh, no shit, that's exactly what the states will do. Outlaw the possession of handcuffs or fake badges and uniforms.
That is correct.
Same thing with guns.
Outlaw guns and the criminals will think twice before using a gun to commit robbery, assault, rape and murder.
Laws are magic.
How about we just, you know, make the penalties for robbery, assualt, rape, and murder actully matter. Oh, and how about not releasing them 1st when a budget crunch hits.
Hey, we wanted gov't transparency. Just didn't expect it to be in the form of Transparent Oppression. (Well, I kind of expected it.)
The practice is so common that the Miami-Dade Police Department has a Police Impersonator Unit.
Isn't that the entire department? Heyooo!
Don't panic, folks. It's easy to tell a fake cop from a real one, as shown in the article:
'. . . Ms. Armeley was suspicious. Before she pulled over, she called her stepfather, Alex Hernandez, a police detective in Biscayne Park, Fla., who warned her that the man was probably not a police officer. Speed away, he told her.'
So, if you're not sure if the guy with a uniform, badge and siren claiming to be a cop is real or fake, just call your stepfather in the police department and let him check his records. It's easy!
it is nothing
