"Chu has lost his ticket to ride"
Remember our old friend Officer Daniel Chu, the New York City transit traffic cop who broke multiple traffic laws on his way to Dunkin' Donuts? Marcia Kramer of WCBS reports that "Chu has lost his ticket to ride":
Chu is now on foot patrol, barred from using a traffic department squad car, after [City Councilman Dan] Halloran caught him breaking enough traffic laws to get his license suspended – speeding, going through stop signs, using flashing emergency lights to get a cup of coffee, plus:
"He was on a cell phone without a hands-free device," Halloran said.
That adds up to 18 points on your license. You lose it at 11. Chu apparently didn't like being caught and so he whipped out a ticket book and gave the councilman a ticket on what Halloran said were trumped up charges.
After CBS 2 HD's first report, people came out of the woodwork to complain about agent Chu and what they called his terror tactics in handing out tickets.
A small victory for the rule of law, but a victory nonetheless.

I'm sure NYC cops will learn some valuable lessons from this incident:
- Don't give out your name (that means no ticket)
- Beat the shit out of anyone filming you or taking pictures of you and confiscate their camera
Yeah, probably right.
Officer Chu busted for poor driving on his way to get a doughnut? He should have been busted for being both a cop stereotype and an Asian stereotype at the same time.
LOLZ
Way too heavy-handed an approach. Why don't we just outlaw donuts?
Get it?
It's a joke, of course; that could never happen.
Wanna bet?
Entrapment! Entrapment!
A small victory for the rule of law, but a victory nonetheless.
A VERY VERY SMALL victory.
This douche should have been fired.
Not just for the complete and utter disregard for the law, but add the fact that he then tried to file bogus charges and intimidated.
Seriously. Abusing your authority for personal gain, then trying to put bogus charges on the guy who calls you out? Why the hell is he still a cop?
Fired? Hell, he committed actual crimes. Why isn't he on trial?
Or they could do it the King County way and suspend him indefinitely with pay.
For everyone's enjoyment:
Cop forgets to put car in "Park" and then has to chase it on foot.
Ambien dropping lady cop swerves all over the road and then hits a parked car. Then she lies about it to another cop.
This collection of geniuses are hard to beat. Unless you're the bad guys.
Damon, you've made a significant mistake. He's a NYPD traffic cop, not a transit cop. Traffic cops are just meter maids, and didn't used to be NYPD. The only reason they are NYPD is that the city got sick of them being beaten up for giving asinine tickets and brought them (technically) into the NYPD so that if you kick their ass for giving you a ticket for being 14.5 feet from a hydrant, you can be charged with assaulting an officer.
Cops don't consider them real cops. They aren't armed and can't arrest you; they can only issue traffic citations. It's no surprise he got punished more easily, since the real cops and their union don't give a shit about him.
There's a reason their cars are a different shade of blue.
Yes sir, you are correct.
Thanks. Fixed.
Didn't they used to call them "Brownies"?
We still do.
But if a real cop the justice system works like this.

I called them "mother fuckers" or "antisocial scumbag shitheels".
So what did you think of them?
Nothing screams "Revolution!" like taking away one police officer's cruiser.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Halloran one of the almost unheard of elected Libertarian Party members?
I checked. He's a member of the LP, Republican Party, Conservative Party, and Independence Party.
No, he can't legally be a member of them all at once, but he was co-nominated (co-endorsed) by all of them for the office. NY allows that, and allows you to appear in more than 1 place on the ballot thereby, your votes being summed. He's a FOAF of mine twice.
A small victory for the rule of law, but a victory nonetheless.
A big victory for the rule of law would be firing his sorry ass. Ticketing someone for calling out such egregious behavior crosses a line that should not be allowed to be crossed.
What kind of a moron "cop" thinks it's a good idea to get in a pissing match with an elected official?
Dude should be euthanized.
Let him Chu on that...
