Capitalism: A Christian Love Story
At Deadline Hollywood, Nikki Finke says that Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story "looks like its domestic total will fail to crack $20M and end up his worst performing film since his Oscar-winner Bowling For Columbine in 2002." This might seem like the opening weekend of a box office flop—Capitalism finished in seventh place—but are these bad numbers for a documentary that calls for the abolition of the free market?
For all of his kvetching about the corporate media, it's perhaps worth noting that, in the past week, Moore has appeared on CNN shows hosted by Anderson Cooper, Larry King, and Wolf Blitzer to promote his incoherent excoriation of capitalism (the market should be replaced by "democracy," he says).
One of the problems with his shtick (beyond being painfully unfunny) is that rather than the aw-schucks working man character he cultivated for Roger and Me, Moore sounds increasingly like a man running for office, desperate to disguise his radical politics while trying to coax people into the theater. During his sit down with Blitzer, Moore mentioned repeatedly that he was "a Christian" and that viewers will "walk out of this film saying, Michael Moore loves this country. Michael Moore is a true patriot. He loves democracy. Michael Moore is following through on the values that his parents and the nuns and the priests gave him as a child."
In case those Red Staters missed it, this film is merely "following through on the religious principles that I was raised with"; allowing the rich to get richer is "not part of our Judeo-Christian ethic"; Obama is approaching the health care debate "with those same Christian values" that Moore was raised with. During an appearance in San Francisco last week, Moore compared Obama to an "amateur basketball player" who was "faking right and going left." He appears to be doing the same.
Moore recently told a reporter that "evil" capitalism "has done nothing for me." It was, apparently, some other economic system that made him fabulously wealthy and bought his Upper West Side penthouse. Go figure. So let's do our part and help Moore strike a blow against the mustache-twisting movie executives by liberating his intellectual property from capitalism (i.e. downloading his movie at PirateBay).
If any Hit & Runners actually paid to see the film this weekend, feel free to post your review in the comments section.

HA HA HA HA HA!!!
What's a bossom?
I believe those are the fat rolls between his man-boobs and his stomach, though I could be wrong.
A cross between a 'blossom' and a 'bosom'. Duh.

Michael Moore just got done touring the Cave of the Winds.
The market should be replaced by democracy, eh? Well if democracy is, essentially, a rejection of centralized planning by dispersing power widely to citizens effected through voting, isn't the market--where citizens, as consumers, make decisions, the perfect analogue? Fuck it. Whatever.
Ew, no. The market is not a democracy. If it was, then we would all be forced to shop at Wal-Mart and eat McDonalds. That would be the analogous market condition to a "democracy", because those are the companies that are chosen by the majority of people.
The market is simply the aggregate actions of individuals, it is not a plurality of people collectively deciding to do something.
I think Rothbard would say that the mere existence of the State, whether a democracy or not, through the binary interventions required to collect funding eliminates the possibility of a truly free market. Also, democracy doesn't necessarily reject central planning as the majority can decide that central planning is good thus ceding that power to the State. Still, Moore's comment is incoherent.
I heard Zombieland was funny!
it was really funny.
It was hilarious, and the supporting cast was a lot easier on the eyes than Michael Moore.
I won't spend my ratio on his drek.
Finally, a movie I won't have any qualms about stealing!
so it's the movie equivelant of "Steal this book"?
Not really. More like "Buy this book, steal all the other books."
the market should be replaced by "democracy," he says
And algebra should be replaced by hot fudge.
The marketplace IS democracy.
Maybe algebra is hot fudge, too.
No, no, no!
Don't you understand? In a democracy a slight majority gets to dictate how ALL resources are spent. That's not socialism, it's DEMOCRACY, because it involves a MAJORITY.
Michael Moore even says this: he wants the economy to change to that a MAJORITY control it, not the evil 1% of people (a MINORITY! BOO!) who control it now.
Democracy!
Which is all fine and dandy until the majority decides it needs your house or your car more than you do.
Also known as: mob rule!
It's only mob rule when you're the one being robbed! If you're the one doing the robbing it's DEMOCRACY!
The last Michael Moore film I saw was Fahrenheit 911. It was so over the top bad it almost made me sympathetic to George W Bush. For that I will never forgive him.
Heh. I used to be embarrassed sticking up for Bush whenever some BDS-stricken lefty would start foaming at the mouth. I used to think to myself, "Hey self, WTF are you doing over on Bush's side of the room?", and I would tell myself, "it's 'cuz the folks over on the other side of the room with pink teeshirts and kafeyyahs are fucktards."
Althouse (are the Reason people still in some kind of feud with her?) saw the movie and she commented on how striking religious content was. I would link, but I think blogspot is down or something.
I emailed More for free tickets to his movie. He never responded.
That's because he's so against capitalism that he's already given them all away.
"Obama is approaching the health care debate "with those same Christian values" that Moore was raised with."
Yes - like cutting back room deals with large pharma.
'Largest ever' Anglo-Saxon gold hoard found
And i'll thank you to return it to me.
Moore's Christian socialism would not surprise Thomas Mann; in The Magic Mountain Mann very clearly equates revolutionary socialism and an activist Catholic Christianity, having as one of the principal characters a monk who thought the egalitarian promise of the early church could only be achieved by mass bloodshed and terror.
I just noticed that in the interview above, Moore lists the "great religions" which agree that "1% shouldn't run everything", and he makes a point of mentioning Buddhism, but leaves Hinduism off the list...hmm, I wonder why?
The rebirth of the Social Gospel.
Michael Moore, a comedian who could go on to be a dem politician. Hey, don't we already have one of those in the Senate?
awesome movie. crappy article.
Nice article. Shitty movie.
I looked for the movie on isohunt.com and found no torrents yet. Anyone seen it somewhere else. If I had any qualms about downloading pirated movies (I don't), I would make a special exception for this one...
I'd love to put this guys future to a vote...
Using the new threading system, I can reply... TO MYSELF! Apropos of Jon's comment above, I actually already did put Mr. Moore's future to a vote. I've never seen one of his movies. So... I kind of voted with my wallet.
And like all of my other votes, it's had about as much effect on Mr. Moore as one would expect.
Ok, now I'm depressed.
I uhh, yeah, never mind.
Yeah, yeah Michael, blame your insanity on the priests sexually abusing you, whatever...
Obama told me to tell Michael Moore that he doesn't appreciate being compared to an "amateur basketball player" as he feels that such a statement is racially insensitive.
This might seem like the opening weekend of a box office flop?Capitalism finished in seventh place?but are these bad numbers for a documentary that calls for the abolition of the free market?
And this is proof that we need to abolish it now!
Had we universal movie maker compensation, we wouldn't be talking about this right now. In fact, you'd be talking to my personal firing squad, peasant.
Way to go, Mikey. You've found a way to make the phrase "Christian Love Story" weird me out even more than when I associated it with lameass, saving-it-for-marriage, Left Behind-style novels.

Yeah, and if you can believe it, they also have people who will recklessly abuse threaded commenting features. *Sniffs* It's a small world after all.
no
Saving what for marriage? What are all these young, white Christian kids saving? And where can I get some?
"Left Behind-style novels"
I was given that book by a religious friend of mine, who coaxed me into reading it. Her and some of her other friends were all raving about how great it was. I promised to try reading it. I think I made it about 100 pages(at most) and I couldn't take it anymore. I'm totally amazed that a novel so poorly written could even have been published, but then again, the Da Vinci Code was a best seller.
It's because it's the only novel being published like that, aimed at a (let's face it) niche audience. It's an audience with a built-in yearning for stuff that's cool, exciting, cutting-edge pop culture, but culture that adheres to the Christian ideal... or something.
I'm actually very fascinated by Christian theology, so I gave the movie version a try.
I couldn't get past the ten-minute mark, if that.
Yep, the movie was just as bad as the book.
I remember the time some religious friend of my wife offered to babysit my three hellion kids so that we could go see Passion of the Christ.
My wife was stunned when I took her up on her offer. Then she was appalled when instead of going to that movie, we went to some stupid comedy. She isn't even a christian and she told me that I was going to hell for being so devious.
Unfortunately, my grasp of the gospel (and my wife's too) is so weak that we weren't able to answer basic questions about Jesus' life as depicted in the movie and my duplicity was discovered.
It took my wife months to restore her friendship with our religious friend. She ended up blaming me (they both agree that I am in league with Satan).
Just out of curiousity, what was the movie you saw instead?
'we weren't able to answer basic questions about Jesus' life as depicted in the movie'
Couldn't you have consulted the plot summary on IMDB or something?
shows hosted by Anderson Cooper, Larry King, and Wolf Blitzer...the market should be replaced by "democracy," he says
And not one of those hosts is intelligent enough to challenge Moore on that absurdity.
We are talking about the MSN here.
MSM Damnit!
Either one will do.
The hilarious part is that Bill Maher of all people called him on it.
So, not a single good thing to say about the movie? No "he had a point there but blew it when he said X..., etc."? Nothing? No decent criticisms even though his solutions are no good? I'm trying to figure out if Reason even has a brain anymore.
I don't need ranting and raving from Reason to tell me that Michael Moore is a fat hypocrite. I would like Reason to say why I should care. And even more important, insight as to why other people care. Insight.....ever heard of it?
Next up, Al Gore flies a jet to talk about the environment.
Sort of, yeah. In order to make substantive criticisms of something, there really has to be some substance to attach them to. And Moore really is nothing more than an incoherent blowhard who doesn't faintly understand what he's talking about. I'm all for debating people whose politics differ from mine. But there are liberals who actually think, and those that never think. Trying to win an argument with the latter, on substance, is a waste of time.
What exactly do we need to rebut his arguments with? Moore is largely incoherent to begin with.
I mean, if I stood up and yelled "Obama is a monkey faced buffoon!", does that really require a point-by-point well thought rebuttal as to why he's not a monkey faced buffoon?
you mean a purple lipped monkey faced buffoon, with big ears?
You mean a cheese-eating surrender monkey faced buffoon?
I'm trying to figure out if Reason even has a brain anymore.
Isn't that a drink?
This is a blog post, not a review or analysis of the movie. He clearly implied that he hasn't even seen the movie.
I'm typically a very violent person when faced with unreasonable people, and my dream scenario is usually to be locked in a cell with them for five minutes or so.
But MM, he's a special guy. I wouldn't want to lessen his already-poor powers of cognition any further with a severe beating. Instead, if locked in a cell with him for five minutes, I would sit down beside his trembling gelatinous form and gently place one arm around his shoulder.
"Micheael, dear Micheal," I would say, "you do realize that YOU'RE ATTACKING CORPORATISM AND NOT FREE-MARKET CAPITALISM?"
On second thought, I would probably lose my restraint at that point.
I should think Michael Moore would like Corporatism.
Change that to "coprophagism" and you are probably correct.
How about "copremesis"?
DanD, how do you describe the difference between corporatism and free-market capitalism to your friends? I always trip up trying to explain that Keynesian-style government intervention through legislation and regulation created the corporatist juggernaut that people actually dislike. I then try to explain that free-market capitalism is, by contrast, about individuals making choices based on the massive and ever-changing VARIETY of market choices. That's usually when I lose my audience. :-/
I usually lose people when they say something about, "the good of society", and I respond, "society is not an entity, but a collection of individuals ergo the good of society is the good of ALL the individuals not just some at the expense of others."
The last thing anyone really wants is democracy.
Anyway, I'll take the "failures" of capitalism over the failures of other economic systems every day of the week. The worst periods of capitalism are 5, 6, 7 times magnitudes smaller than the best moments of socialism, communism, etc.
How say you, libertarians? I'm ready to think he's "faking left and going right".
It all depends on how you define the terms "left" and "right" I guess. I f you use the definitions the Political Compass uses then I would say I would be more inclined to agree with Moore's analogy.
With all of this God talk about liberals and conservatives these days one wonders what an atheist should expect from all of this.
Who cares? Atheists aren't really Americans, remember. In fact, we can't even vote. 🙁
Don't be hyperbolic. You can vote. It just doesn't mean a fucking thing.
My non-believer vote would count if the Catholic poll watchers would stop using their powers of transubstantiation to change my selection to a straight GOP ticket (or is that Diebold doing that?)!
Higher taxes.
"Moore mentioned repeatedly that he was "a Christian""
So did Jim Jones.
It's a sure sign that he's going into Politics.
Actually Jones was an atheist. He decided back during the McCarthy era that he would use religion to sell his suicidal brand of communism.
As an atheist, I can say only, "Oh my GOD!"
I applied the Democracy cream and it stopped the itching and the burning immediately.
When I was a kid, I was told that atheist worship the devil. Doesn't that make them religious?
Somebody apparently had a little trouble differentiating "atheist" from "devil worshipper."
If you cross a dyslexic insomniac with an atheist, you get someone who lies awake at night wondering if there really is a dog.
"Somebody apparently had a little trouble differentiating "atheist" from "devil worshipper."
Ever live in a rural area of the south composed of mainly Southern Baptists and Pentecostals?
If anyone wants to watch Michael Moore's movie for free, you can download it at...
oops. Never mind. That's Tribadism: A Love Story.
Hey now, that's no reason to withhold the link...
I thought Moore & Co. would be opposed to a theocracy that says "Do it this way, because Jesus says so."
In any case, the free market is a democracy - one dollar, one vote. Moore just doesn't like the outcomes.
Blitzer was too much of an idiot to bring up the point that people choose where they spend their money... that said, the gov't does distort outcomes, where one dollar doesn't mean one vote because company X might keep 70% of that dollar while company Y keeps 90%...
I believe that's called plutocracy, but at least you got the ocracy right!
As an atheist, all I can say is ball, good, and rape.
As an agnostic, I'll say rape, ball, good, and rape.
You said "Rape" twice!
I guess he really like rape!
Yup, he's gonna work up a Number 6 on them.
Not sure if everyone saw this, definitely worth watching at least twice: Wolf Blitzer's Epic Fail on Celebrity Jeopardy!!
I saw it as it happened (on TV). Even Alex was unable to completely maintain his usual pity-free persona.
So if all of us vote right now for Michael Moore to give us a million each, he has to give it to us?
Yes, and it's only for his own good. He has way too much money to spend on twinkies now.
Gore-Moore in 2012! Whooohooo!!!
Speaking of rape, Warty, (and when do atheists discuss anything else?) is this guy you?
Ha! My hometown!
Now Reason is gonna get sued for inciting people to illegally download Michael Moore's film off the internet, thus allowing him more money.
What's more democratic and anti-capitalistic than downloading movies?
Breaking news: Libertarians busted for downloading crappy Michael Moore flick.
Moores attorneys ask for $3 million for each illegally downloaded copy. But, it's not about money you know, it's that these pirates actions are in direct opposition to the high moral and Christian values that Michael respresents.
There are so many great questions Wolf could have asked but didn't: how does a subjective religious conviction stand relevant as an objective political criticism, for example, or do we vote on which ideas to have (obviously impossible) or just the allocation of the material product of the ideas generated by "free" individuals upon seizure of the production (arguably evil, but at least certainly socialist --- which Moore continually squirms away from), or, really, how the fuck do you keep gaining weight? Also, ew. Seriously though --- ewwww.
But what do I know...
Speaking of money, Liberty Media just announced a competition that might be of interest to some hereabouts:
Liberty Media Announces Judging Panel for 'Media for Liberty Award'

Eligible works must be originally published or transmitted via print or electronic media during the 2009 calendar year, and received by Liberty Media no later than January 7, 2010. There is a $50,000 prize for the winning entry.
Has Moore talked about his Christianity before now? Am I too cynical for thinking that he's just trying to get some right-wing momentum by using the "good Christian" card and attacking more Dems than Repubs in the movie?
As someone who thinks that the moral teachings of the Bible are more often evil than good, his simpering Christian pleas in trashing capitalism make me say "fuck you" twice; and it's difficult to see his statements as anything other than an attempt to manipulate Christians.
Also, from what I've seen of Moore's interviews, the movie uses the term "capitalism" to be mean crony capitalism. As a libertarian, I can certainly get behind cutting the corporate-gov't ties... which seems to be the major thrust of Moore's problem with "capitalism" as it exists now.
You know who else was a Christian? That's right... Hitler!
and Hitlary too.
You know who was a Jew? That's right... Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Oh yeah, and Jesus.
Nikki Finke says that Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story "looks like its domestic total will fail to crack $20M and end up his worst performing film since his Oscar-winner Bowling For Columbine in 2002."
OTOH, most of the movie critics I've heard from are rating it "must see." I bet the Academy already has the Documentary Oscar envelope sealed.
The most infuriating thing to me is that serious film critics refer to Moore's work as "documentary" with a straight face.
Dagny, that guy looks alarmingly like me. I'm seriously creeped out.
Warty, that's awesome. In the ultimate act of narcissism, I suggest you pay his tunnel a visit.
Speaking as a Christian, I find that it's a pretty good assumption that if either the Left or the Right commandeers my faith, it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with politics. There's a reason that, up until the last century, some of the biggest proponents of the separation of church and state came from the church itself.
To make it even artier, I'll CCW and shoot him when he tries to rape me. It'll be the most post-modern murder trial since the Mitchell brothers'.
Family Guy is only Family Guy but it's The Pirate Bay.
WTF happened to the preview button? How do I check whether the HTML tags are valid?
No but seriously, can we talk about Michael Moore's seemingly endless potential for physical growth?
Dude is big.
If they ever do a remake of Ghost Busters, they won't need to animate a stay puft marshmallow man, Moore will be avaialable and needing work by then I'm sure.
It may be hard to believe, but that is exactly what I was thinking...
WTF happened to the preview button? How do I check whether the HTML tags are valid?
reread them very carefully.
Ah, the old analog preview feature.
"WTF happened to the preview button? How do I check whether the HTML tags are valid?

It isn't perfect, but there are a bunch of HTML testers. Here is one: http://www.draac.com/htmltester.html
Yes, because it tests to see exactly what reason's software does and doesn't do to your message!

$50? No problem.
Please give me your Bank Account & Routing number by email. To be on the safe side, you should also attach a picture of your signature, so I can be certain it's actually you, I'm sending the money to.
Sorry, my bank is managed by the son of the president of Nigeria. You'll have to talk to him.
Dammit, my bank account.
Has he asked you to wire him some money by Western Union yet so he can buy a webcam and a cell phone?
It would be truly funny if Moore sues Reason for facilitating the piracy of his IP.
Hey you fat fuck of a fetus, where did Jesus say to stick a gun in people's faces and take money from them?
Leviticus 12:19
"and The lord said, go onto thy neighbors and take his shit for ye needith it more, and he probably won't mind anyway"
There is no Leviticus 12:19. In any case, Leviticus 12 concerns itself only with the uncleanness of post-partum women (extra unclean points if bearing a girl) and of the need for circumcision.
Learn to take a joke.
I'll be sure to take the advice of a complete stranger.
I'm going to watch a pirated version, just to spite that fat fuck.
If I pirate the movie, does that mean I'm then obligated to watch it? Because that would make the price far too high.
Can't even find the movie in the first couple pages of Pirate Bay search results. Heh.
Also, Pirate Bay appears to be down but MegaProxy dot com gets you there.
Also, Pirate Bay appears to be down but MegaProxy dot com gets you there.
The appeal to Christianity is an old Marxist favorite.
Heck.. that was the foundation of the theology that ran the church taht obama attended
Politically aware right-winger Christians like myself am always on the alert for the tactic that Rand calls letting your enemy use your virtues against you.
The Left is constantly doing this... all thier appeals to the "values of the country" when you know tehy couldn't give a fuck about the history of this country... they just appeal to it so that they could hijack some principle for their power grab
Is it me or does Michael Moore look more and more like Peter Griffin every day.
Outside the US Christianity is strongly associated with Socialism and Welfare State Social Democracy.
I'm trying to remember who it was that posited that in the US in the past Christianity, especially Evangelicalism, was likewise associated with Socialism and Progressivism until a series of conflicts starting with evolution in the late 19th century and moving on to sex education starting in the 20s and 30s but peaking in the 60s with the final nail in the coffin being abortion.
I see that today. Most of the Christian conservatives I'm aware of are not particularly "conservative" on economic issues. They're quite like ly to condemn the "greed" they see in Capitalism and for the most part consider the welfare state as a necessary component of Christian Charity. And that includes the ones that identify as Republicans.
If this is so, I'm thankful for evolution, sex ed and abortion. Anything that keeps the selfrighteous busybodies of the right and left from uniting is a good thing in my book.
So Michael Moore continues to make more of his product (movies), and more money from his product, even though he is already wealthy enough to retire. This is OK because Moore is an altruist.
A capitalist continues to make more of his product, like equipment and software to make and play Moore's movies, even though he is wealthy enough to retire. This is not OK because the capitalist is greedy.
democracy is not an economic system. democracy IS two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for lunch.

There's a part of me that suspects that Moore is the flip-side version of a bad small town televangelist, and doesn't really believe all this rubbish and is having an awesome time playing a great practical joke on everyone and making a boatload of money doing it.
Mr. Moore should do his next movie on christians in america. He could concentrate on the lack of tithing and the misuse of the money given to the churches.
I ran some numbers from the census and other sources to see what those that call themselves christian should be giving. It worked out to be around 840 Billion dollars annually. That could help lots of poor folks. Maybe Moore could figure out why this isn't happening and those poor show up at the govt office with their hands out.

You said post your review, so here goes: http://witackman.wordpress.com.....oore-2009/
A little belatedly, as usual, I finally saw Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story last night, at the Dukes in Lancaster. It seemed necessary to offer up some comments on it (a review, if you like).
Firstly, I thought it was a good film. It was a bit rambling at times ? sometimes conveniently "losing" the thread of its arguments, sometimes remaining inconclusive at moments where clarity would have been appreciated ? and always disorientating. But, then again, it is often amazing how straightforwardly Moore is able to present a debate that has become overspecialized to the point where ordinary citizens are no longer either supposed or allowed to have an opinion ? namely, the debate about the economic structure of our society.
I say 'our society', but I should note that it's a distinctly American film. It doesn't quite make sense unless you keep that in mind ? especially if you're focussed on the argument itself, and on the elisions in that argument. My friend thought, for example, that it was a bit "preachy" to go around asking priests to confirm that capitalism is evil. But this makes perfect sense to anyone who has meandered through WordPress blogs, or watched American news, and noted the way that Christianity, capitalism and democracy are deployed by conservatives as though they formed a holy trinity that, when taken as a sum, are together called "America". Moore takes this to task, and does so in its own terms ? through the church. Looking over IMDb reviews, it seems that calling capitalism "unchristian" resonates a lot more strongly with some Americans than, for example, saying capitalism is entirely incompatible with the Left, or even that it is detrimental to the good of the people.
Interestingly, but unsurprisingly, Moore leaves out the Left altogether. And this is not such a simple, pragmatic elision, because in a sense what the recession brought crashing down was not conservative ideology (already anachronistic), but liberal ideology. Here, it is useful to get outside of American discourse, where "liberal" is a truly polysemous word. Liberalism is the idea that capitalism is the best economic system for providing the greatest distribution of wealth. As such, it appears at least to be left-wing, but it is the sworn-enemy of the radical Left. It is one of the many lies that allows capitalism to continue functioning ? far more important than the excuse Moore offers up, that we allow capitalism to continue because we hope one day we'll work our way up into the moneyed elite (who believes that old American dream anymore?). Liberalism is a lie, disguised as philanthropy, that attempts to justify and make sense of capitalism.
It is a crucial point that Moore only takes liberalism to task implicitly (and that's a generous reading), because it struck me that, at the end of the film, capitalism is left entirely intact. What Moore takes to task is greed (one of the seven deadly sins), financial gambling, and a lack of compassion ? as well as the theft of $7 billion of taxpayers' money. This is a very Christian way of attacking the problem of capital, but not one that strongly and clearly poses the case that it is the economic system of capitalism itself that is the problem (that would be a little too Marxist, perhaps). There is a very subtle slippage at work here, but one that is all important, whereby capitalism becomes synonymous with greed (its colloquial synonym) rather than designating a contradictory economic system (its precise usage). Obscuring this allows Moore to entirely avoid a commitment to a radical agenda.
It is in this light that I would read another slightly shocking slippage. With a mixture of awe and scepticism, Moore notes Obama's ascendency and subsequent election. In a strange and unqualified (and unrepeated) moment, Moore then appears to attribute to Obama's example a series of genuine political actions: a sheriff who refuses to assist in home foreclosures; a community who decide to liberate and move back into their foreclosed homes; a group of laid-off workers owed their pay, who decide to occupy their factory. These are moments of genuine political energy, and the most moving parts of the film. What an insult, then, to attribute these instances of genuine community organisation, cohesion and agency to the "Obama effect"! In doing so, Moore recuperates genuine struggle, and attributes it, however equivocally, to the effect of one man leading a liberal government (i.e. one deeply devoted to capitalism).
I feel ambivalent then, towards Moore's film. But, I feel I should embrace it as a step in the right direction.
A final note: one of the most powerful parts of the film for me was hearing the slogan, still echoing in my head, used by those protestors squatting their own homes in the US:
Da-da-duh, Da-da-duh, da-Da-da da da-Da-duh!
It is the same one used up and down Britain at anti-capitalist protests:
"The people united will never be defeated!"
