In "remaking the mortgage giants" the gov't better darn well keep their cutsey names. Sheesh.
"Cutesy", that is. Sheesh.
The bad debts the firms own would be placed in new government-backed financial institutions -- so-called bad banks -- that would take responsibility for collecting as much of the outstanding balance as possible. What would be left would be two healthy financial companies with a clean slate.
"Healthy" like an addict that spent a week in rehab, and is ready to go out and score another fix...

"Former congressman William Jefferson, a.k.a. the freezer guy, is convicted of corruption."
I think there's a typo. Shouldn't that be acquitted?
Convicted of 11 of 16 charges . . . .
"The Marines ban social networking on Corps-owned computers."
Standard practice in the private sector. Why is this news?

What sector do you work in?
While it isnt a rare practice, I wouldnt call it standard either.
However, I agree, no big deal.

The Obama administration is considering an overhaul of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that would strip the mortgage finance giants of hundreds of billions of dollars in troubled loans and create a new structure to support the home-loan market, government officials said.
The bad debts the firms own would be placed in new government-backed financial institutions -- so-called bad banks -- that would take responsibility for collecting as much of the outstanding balance as possible. What would be left would be two healthy financial companies with a clean slate.
Holy shit.
Holy shit.
Holy
Fucking
Shit.
So now there's going to be a government agency which supports bad mortgages? The hell?
stupid keyboard
@ P: Your expression captures the mind-boggling essence of the remake much better than does "Sheesh". Thank you.
What sector do you work in?
While it isnt a rare practice, I wouldnt call it standard either.
What sector do you work in? I would definitely call it standard for the networks I have seen, but they tend to be networks that are very security conscious.
I just love it. The Dems have gotten pulled into the mud on healthcare. The only discernable healthcare message coming out of DC now is that anybody who opposes them on this issue is either (a) a shill, (b) a nutcase or (c) a Nazi.
You couldn't think of a better way to keep the opposition fired up and alienate the fence-sitters.
That NYT piece about Clinton and Gore made me want to puke.
What sector do you work in? I would definitely call it standard for the networks I have seen, but they tend to be networks that are very security conscious.
My current company blocks YouTube, Facebook, and MySpace that I know of. I'm sure there's more blocked that I've never tried.
You couldn't think of a better way to keep the opposition fired up and alienate the fence-sitters.
Oh, over the next couple of months the Dems just might. E.g., you forgot ... "Racist!"
What sector do you work in? I would definitely call it standard for the networks I have seen, but they tend to be networks that are very security conscious.
IT.
My company is small, we block nothing. But, I see a lot of friends working for larger companies posting on facebook during the day.
The other extreme is a company like Exxon. If you need internet access, you have to go to a special room.
Re: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Someone need to send these fucks a primer on entropy.
Just fuck!
Well, as long as the Army never designates Hit n' Run a "social networking site", I'm good. They already blocked MySpace, et al. long ago.
They should have been liquidated 21 months ago and replaced with a dented trash can.
Jefferson's trial was delayed by a constitutional fight after federal agents raided his office in the Rayburn House Office Building in May 2006 seeking evidence.
House and Senate leaders from both parties criticized the search, saying it violated more than two centuries of precedent and raised constitutional concerns about the separation of power between the executive and legislative branches of government.

Nancy shrugged out of her blouse and unfastened the high-tension wires supporting her bra. Her breasts fell out, bouncing against her stomach with two soft plops. She gathered them up, withered and wrinkled like day-old crepes, and pinched the nipples viciously to stimulate blood flow. They were cold in her menopausal hands as she offered them to Dianne.
"Do youh want thu protesh?" Nancy slurred provocatively. Her mouth, as always, was filled with saliva. "No," Dianne said, "I want to fuck on the Astro-Turf."
Nancy stepped out of her support underwear. From the bed, Dianne could see that Nancy had shaved her enormous thatch of gray pubic hair into a swastika. Dianne let out a moan of pleasure as she shat out the riding crop she had been masturbating with.
From the closet, frustrated by the obstructed view, Rachel ground the lock of Keith's hair into her vulva so hard that the cords in her gigantic neck stood out like bridge cables.
"They should have been liquidated 21 months ago and replaced with a dented trash can."
Yeah, and Geitner could pop out of it every now and then and say how much he loves junk (bonds).
This post brought to you by the letter FUCKED.
Put all your bad assets in a "different" company so your "real" company looks good.
This is exactly what Enron did.
A lot of them are in war zones and lack access to any other internet connection. But you knew that, right?
What about the boots? And the jingly little swastika spurs?
Some people just like to bitch.
Former congressman William Jefferson, a.k.a. the freezer guy, is convicted of corruption.
I know he no longer comments here, but, FUCK YOU JOE!
You know, I thought my girlfriend telling me that she's having a bad day at work because kids keep threatening to poop in each other's mouths would be the grossest thing I heard today.
I'm slow off the outrage starting block, but something just occurred to me: the mere possession of that much cash by one of the little people would have been grounds for suspicion, and the money would undoubtedly have been taken by civil forfeiture.
So, where is the money now, and what will become of it? Anyone know?
The story said the money was marked, so presumably it belongs to the FBI. Seized previously from somebody not *connected* politically, no doubt.
? The Marines ban social networking on Corps-owned computers.
God bless the Marines, but they are usually not the brightest bunch. (which could be a function of age as much as just being batshit crazy sometimes)
I've heard of some uploaded footage to liveleak being appropriated either from that site or the person who shot it by the military concerning soldiers actions. The military has been fairly open all things considered.
? The government mulls a massive reorganization of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Bloomberg has had a few good articles on the current mess with Fannie and Freddie along with some semi-interesting opinions. It looks like we are going to get twice the stupidity in a one stop all inclusive package of government dipshittery.
From a Marine social networking site:
-jmp!
-hw hi?
-drp & gif me 20
-wassa matr, u want 2 live 4fr?
A lot of them are in war zones and lack access to any other internet connection. But you knew that, right?
Yup. And they can still get their email, they just can't go on Facebook on Corps-owned computers. Cry me a river. Buy a cheap laptop if it's that freakin' important. For what I spent on beer every month as an enlisted paratrooper, you can buy two.
I'm going to guess they are going to block access at all levels so a personal computer won't help. It's their network. Just a guess.
