Marc Andreessen: What the World Needs Most Is More Elon Musks
The Netscape co-founder and legendary venture capitalist talks about the future, innovation, and your next beach read.

In the 1990s, Marc Andreessen helped make the World Wide Web navigable by co-authoring Mosaic, the first super-popular web browser, and then by co-founding Netscape, one of the first great internet initial public offerings (IPOs). As a founder of the venture capital powerhouse Andreessen Horowitz, he has had a central role in funding Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, Lyft, and other companies that define our age.
Unlike many of his peers, Andreessen is also a congenital optimist, who places his hope for the future squarely in the hands of what he once called "the 19-year-olds and the startups that no one's heard of."
On this episode, Reason's Editor in Chief Katherine Mangu-Ward sat down with Andreessen to talk about what the future will look like and whether it's still going to emerge from Silicon Valley, the role of government in fostering or destroying innovation, and what you should read on your next beach vacation.

Q: What's the difference between a Netscape and a Metaverse?
A: Nothing.
I get paid over 190$ per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I’d be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I’ve been doing..

The world needs more absentee fathers?
Or perhaps more guys that accuse folks of being pedophiles for saving kids?
Maybe more managers that have to be managed and kept in the dark in order to keep them from harming their companies?
Yes, because forget about a revolutionary fast-charging network across the US, a revolutionary rocket system that is months away from taking space travel and shipping from the billions to the hundreds of dollars, creating the original online payment system, and exposing the biggest censorship and spying campaign in American history.
I mean, you've forgotten that those are all the results of huge team sof people and are instead giving full credit to the money guy, so sure, why not, let's forget 'em.
The dude likes his reputation as Tony Stark, but it's just that, a reputation. It's not real.
He put those teams together, Esher, and under his direction they're doing amazing things nobody was even thinking of doing.
Did Bank of America create a Paypal? No.
Did GM, Ford or Toyota create a nationwide supercharger network? No.
Did United Launch Alliance create a reusable Falcon 9 or a Starship? No.
His reputation is real and deserved.

More Elon Musks?
Isn't that the guy Reason.com told me is responsible for Twitter "imploding"?
I know, right? The dude is dangerous.
Elon Musk: “Most Are Oblivious” to the Danger of World War 3.

And force more journalists into the arms of Mastodon, the Tofurkey of social media? No thanks.
Nobody's been forced to Mastodon. The lefturds like to say they're going there, but it's like moving to Canada.
-jcr
Both people on Mastodon are still waiting for that influx of woke disaffected Twitter users.
Being more censorious and more of an echo chamber than Twitter ever was, Mastodon is just not an attractive proposition even to leftists.
It's definitely can be an echo chamber by it's structure, but it's almost impossible to censor which I think is the real reason the blue checks haven't migrated to it.
Well, to be fair, that's the perfect environment for leftists. That's why they liked Twitter. They're "disaffected" twitter users because it's not the echo chamber it used to be.
Well Musk has done more for free speech in the last six months than Reason has done... Well actually Reason doesn't much like free speech. Except for drag queens of course. Your kids have a right to see drag queens!
Are food trucks and abortion free-speech, because the Reasonistas love those.
Yes. Also Mexicans and butt sex. And that's pretty much it. Everything else is up to private companies to decide.
Nope. Try this:
Remember when crazy those crazy Russians blew their own pipeline?
Nord Stream Sabotage Was CIA, US Navy Covert Op: Seymour Hersh Bombshell Prompts White House Response
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/nord-stream-sabotage-was-cia-us-navy-covert-op-seymour-hersh-bombshell-prompts-white
"What came next was stunning. On February 7, less than three weeks before the seemingly inevitable Russian invasion of Ukraine, Biden met in his White House office with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who, after some wobbling, was now firmly on the American team. At the press briefing that followed, Biden defiantly said, “If Russia invades . . . there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.”
"Twenty days earlier, Undersecretary Nuland had delivered essentially the same message at a State Department briefing, with little press coverage. “I want to be very clear to you today,” she said in response to a question. “If Russia invades Ukraine, one way or another Nord Stream 2 will not move forward.”
Sounds like a deliberate act of war to me. Blowing up a civilian energy pipeline carrying gas to Germany is far worse than droning an Iranian terrorist.
Looks like Joe started WW3 just like he promised. And here I thought it was the dementia talking.
Yes an act of war not only against Russia but also Germany. But if this story is accurate, Scholz actually agreed to it. So Germans would be forced to buy LNG from us at three times the price. Biden should be impeached. Scholz should be executed for treason.
Yeah. I went Hanlon's razor (accident instead of intentional) on that one, and I was wrong.

It shouldn't be be necessary to do this, but for those wondering, I can confirm this is indeed an article by Seymour Hersh, with whom I've been in touch during the preparation of this article:
How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline
How long until this becomes national news at 5, 6, 10, or 11 pm? Who am I kidding? The media mostly creates propaganda for the administration.
The world needs fewer Marc Andreesens and fewer of the kind of worthless companies he has founded.
Netscape > Internet Extorter..er..Explorer.
I'd rather have a Marc Andreesen and get rid of a Bill Gates.
He took a publicly funded open source project and made it proprietary. And there were half a dozen other browsers around at the time. Afterwards, he took his windfall and financed companies that made more and more of the Internet proprietary, centralized, and closed. These developments were probably unavoidable, but that doesn’t mean we need to celebrate the people responsible for it.
People like the companies he helped start. The day you start a company which satisfies more people, you let us know.
People don’t have a choice but to use the companies he started and people don’t know any better.
Are we talking Elon the optimist, Elon the disrupter and exposer of actual fascism, or Elon the wealthy?
Elon the Gozerian
Elon the mean tweeter.
Progressives and far left politicians like to rail against billionaires, but billionaires got that way by giving people things they wanted, at prices they were willing to pay. A lot of progress comes from billionaires inventing and delivering things we didn’t know we needed, or from improving the things we already use and delivering them at lower cost. Take away the incentive of great wealth for solving problems and improving systems, and fewer problems will be solved and fewer systems will be improved.
Politicians, on the other hand, acquire wealth by promising new uses for other peoples’ money, uses the people who earned the money chose not to pursue.
