Pot Decriminalization Gets Some GOP Support in Indiana

State Sen. Brent Steele (R-Bedford.), wants small possessions to be punishable with a fine

One state senator, a Democrat who calls herself a "child of the '60s," says it's past time for Indiana to stop criminalizing small-time marijuana users.

Another state senator, a Republican committee chairman, says the idea makes sense because it would save taxpayers the costs of prosecuting and jailing such low-level offenders.

The answer, as this unlikely bipartisan duo sees it, is simple: Adjust the punishment for small amounts of marijuana to roughly the equivalent of an expensive traffic ticket.
