The Sindex: Price of Audio Equipment Rises 12 Percent Under Trump Tariffs
The Reason Sindex tracks the price of vice: smoking, drinking, snacking, traveling, and more.
Going to any public events soon? You might have a harder time hearing the speakers than you once did. While annual inflation through August 2025 came in at 2.9 percent, the price of audio equipment like new speakers had risen 12.2 percent. "They're some of the few electronics not exempt from tariffs (most smartphones/computers are still tariff-free)," as Apricitas Economics writer Joey Politano posted on X. The price of those tariff-free computers, by the way, is down 2 percent over the same timeframe, though still up 2.4 percent from January 2025 at the start of the Trump administration.

That creepy KAR thing should be happy that Cable tv is down, which should cause him/her/it to rejoice given that he/she/it struggles to afford that monthly bill.
Who cares?
Seems as useful as the MAPedo’s “Cheesy poofs & spittin tobacky” index.
But if youse gots SNAP and EBT an sheit, you'll can buy yo's Pepsi, Pringles and Hungry Man dinners by the cartload.
Yo!
In that case, you probably stole your speakers.
Some audiophile weirdos. In which I include myself. And commercial sound production is a big thing too. I guess we don't have a good lobby. Now there is plenty of good stuff made in the US. But maybe some prefer the Austrian or Swiss stuff.
So he adds in cable streaming services showing a growth and doesn't even realize it undoes his theory of all price increases are caused by tariffs.
He is even showing lower cost growth year over year than since tariffs. Almost like costs are noisy and the supposed signal for tariffs is buried in the noise.
The price for a bag of chocolate chips is now $5. I guess people won't be baking chocolate chip cookies now.
The price of gas up here in Northern Michigan still remains around $3.29/gal. Shopping for food is becoming increasingly frustrating as prices seem to climb every week.
Fifty bucks won't even fill a bag. I remember spending $25 and filling two big paper shopping bags with food. Now that won't get you diddly squat anymore unless you shop from Dollar General.
TVs still dropping in price. How is that possible?
Soon TVs will be 50 feet wide and free.
We're gonna need a bigger house.
That is where a 50-year mortgage comes into play.
Like many products prices are climbing around the world mainly because of the price of energy. The AI push and data center installations will continue to push electricity prices.
Transportation prices are finally starting to drop a little but oil and gas prices are still inflated as production is now ramping up. They will come down further and hopefully businesses reduce their prices and not just keep the savings from the reduction in transportation costs.
It does not appear any of the products cited were actually influenced by tariffs.
Electronics are inflated for many reasons including increases in metals and minerals not associated at all with tariffs.
You say prices are inflating for many products, for "many reasons", and yet
taxestariffs are specifically not one of them? Not even a little wee bit? That's magical, and just in time for the Christmas season!Glad you have this all figured out - taxes don't raise prices after all! Not even one of "many" reasons!
All lies I tell you! LIES!
And about that Sindex of domestic-made audio after all the Spending, Taxing and *actual* inflation?
