Federal night patrol: The Trump administration plans to send more FBI agents to patrol the streets of D.C. at night, according to officials who spoke anonymously with The New York Times. "Most of the agents will be pulled from their regular duties at the F.B.I.'s Washington field office, but it was not immediately clear if agency leaders would need to pull additional personnel from nearby cities," the sources tell the Times. The deployment of federal authorities has already been going on for at least two nights, but it is expected to ramp up further in the coming days.

This is at least in part related to the attack on the prominent Department of Government Efficiency engineer known as Big Balls. Edward Coristine, the 19-year-old software engineer who worked on the team formerly helmed by Elon Musk (and now works in the Social Security Administration), was bloodied and beaten following an attempted carjacking in D.C. last week. The alleged suspects are two 15-year-olds. "The suspects demanded the victim's vehicle and then assaulted one of the victims," said the police on August 7. "During the assault, an MPD cruiser pulled into the block causing the suspects to flee. Two of the suspects were apprehended by the on-scene officers."

"Crime in Washington, D.C., is totally out of control. Local 'youths' and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16-years-old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released," wrote the president on Truth Social. "They are not afraid of Law Enforcement because they know nothing ever happens to them, but it's going to happen now!"

"The Law in D.C. must be changed to prosecute these 'minors' as adults, and lock them up for a long time, starting at age 14," he added. "Washington, D.C., must be safe, clean, and beautiful for all Americans and, importantly, for the World to see. If D.C. doesn't get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run, and put criminals on notice that they're not going to get away with it anymore."

Look, I'm hugely in favor of stopping violent crime, but using federal agents to get the job done—and perhaps more worryingly, having the president direct how minors are charged—is likely to get into sticky territory rather quickly. "Because D.C. is not a state, the federal government has unique authority to exert control over city affairs—even amid objections from the residents and locally elected government," notes The Washington Post. "The Home Rule Act of 1973 gave D.C. residents the ability to elect their own mayor and council members. A federal takeover of the D.C. police force would be an extraordinary assertion of power in a place where local leaders have few avenues to resist federal encroachment."

NEW: WH official shares with @DailyCaller the success of night 2 of increased law enforcement in D.C.

Several arrests were made, some include:
A fugitive wanted from Maryland.
Multiple persons carrying a pistol without license.
Driving on suspended license.
Dirt bike riding in…

— Reagan Reese (@reaganreese_) August 10, 2025

Currently in D.C., both homicides and violent crime overall are down compared to this time last year. Still, D.C. has an oddly high car theft rate, which has gone up this past year, and Trump seems especially fixated on the youth crime rate, so I'm not surprised the president's ears perked up when those two factors combined and played a role in victimizing Big Balls.

Trump, ever an obsessive, will be pivoting his normally-scheduled press conference later this morning to talk specifically about improving D.C.—its cleanliness and beauty—and solving its crime problems.

Scenes from New York: Andrew Cuomo, the former "love gov" who is now running for New York City mayor, is struggling to focus on what he himself would actually do in office. Instead he is focusing his criticisms on Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.

"Somewhere last night in New York City, a single mother and her children slept at a homeless shelter because you, assemblyman @ZohranKMamdani are occupying her rent controlled apartment," wrote Cuomo on X. "You grew up rich and married an even wealthier woman. You've had weddings on 3 continents. You own property in LGTBQIA+ murderous Uganda. You make $142,000 a year plus stipends, and your wife works too, meaning you together likely make well over $200,000. No matter which way you cut it: Zohran Mamdani is a rich person. You are actually very rich. Yet you and your wife pay $2,300 a month, as you have bragged, for a nice apartment in Astoria. That should be housing for someone who needs it." (Cuomo may be wrong to assume Mamdani's wife, who is an artist, makes such a hefty sum as $60,000.)

"You are a rich person stealing affordable housing from the poor," added Cuomo. And you're not the only one. It's past time we address this injustice."

Cuomo isn't totally wrong. To the extent that rent stabilization must continue to exist in New York City, it would be improved if were means-tested and much more limited in scope. (Of course, the optimal outcome is scrapping it altogether.)

  • President Donald Trump is considering federally reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug, reports The Wall Street Journal. Making it Schedule III instead of Schedule I, as the president is considering, would open it up to much more medical research.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Wednesday that it had terminated the collective bargaining agreements for most of its employees, pursuant to President Trump's executive order excluding many agencies from the Civil Service Reform Act's provisions that allow collective bargaining," writes National Review's Dominic Pino. "About four-fifths of the VA's workforce was unionized."
  • "Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. agreed to pay 15% of their revenues from Chinese AI chip sales to the US government in a deal to secure export licenses, an unusual arrangement that may unnerve both US companies and Beijing," reports Bloomberg. "Nvidia plans to share 15% of the revenue from sales of its H20 AI accelerator in China, according to a person familiar with the matter. AMD will deliver the same share from MI308 revenues, the person added, asking for anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The arrangement reflects US President Donald Trump's consistent effort to engineer a financial payout for America in return for concessions on trade."

Trump and Supreme Leader Putin to meet in Alaska. The US taxpayer funded puppet autocratic dictator Zely apparently will be onsite as well.

JD Vance recently remarked that US funding of the Kiev regime to end. Better late than never.

Democrats Joined Republicans in Senate to Reject Sanders’ Anti-Israel Measure

Here’s what just happened: The Senate decisively rejected Bernie Sanders’ dangerous attempt to block critical weapons sales to Israel, with the measure failing 27-70. But buried in that defeat lies an alarming truth. Get this—a record-breaking majority of Senate Democrats voted to abandon our ally during wartime. More than half their caucus! This marks Sanders’ third attempt to undermine Israel’s defense capabilities. And each time? He’s gained more Democratic support.

Israel already has rather a lot of our weapons, including fighters and nuclear weapons, so I'm not so sure our 'continued support' is actually that critical to them.

What would be more 'critical' is getting the hell out of their way, but we know that isn't going to happen.

Well, they were smart enough to stay out of New England. The states there have 21 congressional seats. Every last one is a Democrat. Proportional voting would suggest the GOP have at least seven of them.

      1. Zeb   2 hours ago

But we don't have proportional voting. Not that there isn't any funny business (especially in southern New England), but it's not inconceivable (especially in northern New England where the population is low and spread out) that districts just naturally have a fairly even partisan distribution.

In NH, which I am most familiar with, the two larger cities are in different districts despite being fairly close. You could call that a gerrymander, but it would be hard to get even population districts without some real funky looking maps if Manchester and Nashua were in the same district as the population is heavily weighted toward the south-east of the state. So someone would call it a gerrymander either way.

Vermont and Delaware only get 1 Rep, so it's hard to gerrymander (for federal representation). Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island get 2, so gerrymandering there is possible, but not hard to fathom that 50% plus one vote can get the "extra" seat".

Thirteen states with only 1 or 2 Reps are excluded from the analysis here...

Most of the Republican states hold 0, 1, or 2 seats in excess of what proportional representation might have. The worst offender is Florida, with 4 "excess" Republican Representatives. But California has 12 excess Democrats, Illinois has 5, New York has 4, and New Jersey has 3.

          https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2025/08/whos-gerrymandering-whom.php

[O]f the 37 states remaining, thirteen deviate towards the Democrats (highlighted in blue) and 24 towards the Republicans (in red). But we also see that the average index of deviations towards Democrats is 2.5 compared to just 1.6 for those towards Republicans. In short, when Democratic states gerrymander, they do it more aggressively than Republican ones. Indeed, if we apply the actual vote shares won by Democrats in each state in 2024 to the number of seats each state has, the Democrats would gain 31 House seats in states like Iowa and Nebraska but lose 37 in states like California and New York for a net loss of six seats in the House of Representatives.

So, if representation in Congress were exactly proportional to votes cast for Congressional candidates, the Republicans would gain six seats in the House.

          The Constitution reads this.

          To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;

Jasmine Crocket supposedly tried to shutdown The Atlantic's fluff piece on here after the reporter asked fellow Democrats their opinions on Crocket...

    NY Post:

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) lashed out at an Atlantic magazine reporter last week after the journalist reached out to other House lawmakers as part of a profile on the far-left congresswoman.

“[F]our days before this story was published, Crockett called me to express frustration that I had reached out to so many House members without telling her first,” Atlantic writer Elaine Godfrey noted in her story, which was published by the magazine on Sunday.

“She was, she told me, ‘shutting down the profile and revoking all permissions,’” Godfrey continued.

    ...

However, Godfrey noted that several other Democrats refused to discuss Crockett on the record.

Senior Democratic staffers explained that some of Crockett’s colleagues find her “undisciplined” but are “reluctant to criticize her publicly.”

“She likes to talk,” one of the staffers told Godfrey. “Is she a loose cannon? Sometimes. Does that cause headaches for other members? 100 percent.”

During her time with Crockett, Godfrey observed that the congresswoman “speaks casually” and “can also be brusque.”

Crockett also “monitors social-media engagement like a day trader” and is “highly conscious” about her “self-presentation,” the reporter found.

“During many of our conversations, Crockett wore acrylic nails painted with the word RESIST, and a set of heavy lashes over her brown eyes,” Godfrey wrote, noting that “the lock screen on her phone is a headshot of herself.”

I bet she was mad since even other Democrats know she's possibly one of the dumbest members of Congress. Asking for their opinion on her, if they actually would go on the record and be honest, would not paint her in a good light.

Of course, it would have no effect on her constituents who are possibly even dumber than she is. She'd still get reelected.

Just a "Rhode Island Man"...illegal alien child sex offender released same-day despite ICE detainer order.

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/saraharnold/2025/08/10/ice-nabs-illegal-alien-accused-of-child-sex-crimes-after-local-authorities-release-him-despite-detainer-n2661629

Josue Santiago Perez Gomez, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was arrested just hours after he was released by Rhode Island authorities and was served with a notice to appear before a Justice Department immigration judge. However, despite being charged with patronizing a minor for commercial sexual activity, indecent solicitation of a child, and procurement of sexual conduct for a fee.

According to ICE, Perez-Gomez illegally entered the U.S. as a “gotaway” at an unknown time and place, without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by immigration authorities.

ICE Boston Field Office Director Patricia Hyde condemned the release of Perez-Gomez, calling him a clear danger to children and questioning why he was arrested at all if he was going to be immediately released. She praised ICE for stepping in to remove him from the community after local authorities failed to

"Josue Santiago Perez-Gomez stands accused of some disgusting and disturbing crimes and represents a clear threat to the children of our Rhode Island communities. Releasing an alleged child sex offender the very day of his arrest begs the question, what is the point of arresting him at all? Luckily, the brave men and women of ICE were able to remove this criminal alien pedophile from our streets, where local authorities allowed him to potentially reoffend," she said in a statement.

Fraud, waste, and abuse...the hallmarks of any government spending. But COVID-era programs with zero oversight led to some of the biggest frauds...

United States District Judge Nancy E. Brasel sentenced Abdiaziz Shafii Farah, age 36, to 28 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his role in a $300 million fraud scheme that exploited a federally program to feed hungry kids during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Farah helped orchestrate the largest known COVID-19 fraud scheme called Feeding Our Future in Minnesota. Farah and his co-defendants stole more than $47 million by claiming to serve 18 million meals to kids at more than 30 food distribution sites.

Farah was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $47,920,514. He's the 73rd person charged in connection to the scheme.

In June 2024, after a seven-week trial before Judge Brasel, a federal jury convicted Farah of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery, false statements in a passport application, conspiracy to commit money laundering, two counts of federal programs bribery, six counts of wire fraud, and 11 counts of money laundering.

Farah used about $4.2 million in fraudulently-obtained taxpayer funds to purchase real estate throughout the Twin Cities and in Kentucky, which included buying two lakefront lots.

Farah sent the taxpayer money he stole overseas, purchasing real estate in Kenya and a high-rise apartment building in Nairobi.

Farah laundered the fraud proceeds through China. American law enforcement can't recover money sent overseas.

Neither these funds nor Farah’s international real estate holdings have been, or can be, seized or forfeited. In January 2022, when the Feeding Our Future search warrants were executed, federal agents seized Farah’s U.S. passport from his home.

Farah retained an attorney and was told he was a target of the federal investigation.

Two months later, on March 22, 2022, Farah went to the Minneapolis Passport Agency to apply for a new U.S. passport. Farah lied on his passport application, falsely claiming his passport was lost, rather than seized by federal agents. Farah obtained a new U.S. passport that day.

Less than two weeks later, Farah attempted to leave the country, purchasing a one-way ticket to Kenya, where he owned property paid for by the taxpayer money he stole. Law enforcement acted quickly to charge Farah with passport fraud and take him into custody. In June 2024, at the conclusion of his 7-week trial, Farah and others attempted to bribe a juror with $120,000 in cash in exchange for a not guilty verdict.

In imposing the 28-year sentence, Brasel explained the defendant “came to this country as a refugee” and that “many of the opportunities” in Farah’s life came through public agencies and non-profit organizations, noting that Farah received housing, school, a full-tuition college grant, and worked in the public sector.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson said that Farah should face a long time in prison.

“This country gave Farah everything. A home. Citizenship. A free college education," Thompson said. "After that he went on to public employment with the state of Minnesota. And how did he repay this country and this state? By robbing us blind. He has gotten every opportunity, and this is how he used it. Farah didn’t want the American dream. He wanted to be rich. He wanted to be wealthy. He thought he was entitled to it. He won the lottery of life, he was given everything by this country, and he repaid us with a life of crime. He has done untold damage to this state.”

    More fraud, waste, and abuse...

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/doj-charges-over-320-individuals-in-fraud-crackdown/ar-AA1KgYkn

In one of the largest healthcare fraud crackdowns in U.S. history, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged more than 320 individuals in connection with schemes totaling over $14.5 billion. Among those implicated are dozens of medical professionals, including 25 doctors. The individuals involved reportedly played key roles in fraudulent billing and kickback operations.

The DOJ has also announced the seizure of $245 million in cash, luxury goods, and other assets. Officials noted that the schemes led to an estimated $2.9 billion in losses to federal healthcare programs.

Operation leaders noted that foreign straw owners used fake medical supply companies to file false Medicare claims. They allegedly exploited the identities of over one million Americans.

Suspects from Russia, Eastern Europe, and Pakistan have been implicated following the investigations. Nearly 20 people were charged in a major $10 billion scheme involving fake urinary catheter claims.

DOJ Criminal Division Chief Matthew Galeotti said, “These criminals didn’t just steal someone else’s money. They stole from you.”

Galeotti added, “Every fraudulent claim, every fake billing, every kickback scheme represents money taken directly from the pockets of American taxpayers who fund these essential programs through their hard work and sacrifice.”

Arrests have taken place in Estonia, U.S. airports, and at the U.S.-Mexico border. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said, “It’s not done by small-time operators.” He added, “These are organized syndicates who are designing to hurt America.”

Will EU levy tariffs on China? Why does everyone pick on poor old China?

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/08/11/china-unleashes-dumping-epidemic-across-europe/

Beijing is dumping a fresh wave of cheap goods in Europe, including air conditioners, motorbikes and swimsuits after Donald Trump stepped up his trade war, new data shows.

The European Commission (EC) warned more than 100 categories of goods had seen “harmful increases” in volumes shipped to the Continent in the first half of the year, with China branded the worst offender.

Data published by Brussels suggests Beijing is flooding the trading bloc with goods ranging from leather to car engines amid increasing evidence that the world’s second biggest economy is trying to divert shipments to other countries because of Mr Trump’s tariffs.

Officials in Brussels remain particularly concerned that Beijing will flood the bloc with cheap cars, as cutthroat competition in mainland China forces manufacturers to sell abroad.

Last month, officials warned that the EU will not tolerate “dumping” of Chinese electric vehicles. Teresa Ribera, EC’s vice president, added that the bloc also refused to import “cheap equipment” to help get to net zero.

“There is this assumption that counting on cheap equipment could be good to boost the potential of new developments and new decarbonisation pathways,” she said.

“And there may be truth on one side, but as you also know, it may be difficult in terms of how it could impact on the capacity to ensure a level playing field. So we cannot accept any type of dumping practices.”

How dare those European consumers have access to cheap goods! That's terrible! The EU better use taxes to make those things more expensive! The sooner the better! More taxes! More taxes! More taxes now!

The original post said nothing about the quality of the goods. Only that they weren't expensive enough. And as we all know, inexpensive is bad. That's why we need tariffs. To make things more expensive.

'The Trump administration plans to send more FBI agents to patrol the streets of D.C. at night, according to officials who spoke anonymously with The New York Times. "Most of the agents will be pulled from their regular duties at the F.B.I.'s Washington field office, but it was not immediately clear if agency leaders would need to pull additional personnel from nearby cities," the sources tell the Times.'

But who will then spy on parents at school board meetings and run the local domestic terrorist recruiting schemes?

First they came for the coal miners and factory workers, and I laughed, telling them 'learn to code'...

“The rhetoric was, if you just learned to code, work hard and get a computer science degree, you can get six figures for your starting salary,” Mishra, now 21, recalls hearing as she grew up in San Ramon, California.

Those golden industry promises helped spur Mishra to code her first website in elementary school, take advanced computing in high school and major in computer science in college. But after a year of hunting for tech jobs and internships, Mishra graduated from Purdue University in May without an offer.

“I just graduated with a computer science degree, and the only company that has called me for an interview is Chipotle,” Mishra said in a get-ready-with-me TikTok video this summer that has since racked up more than 147,000 views.

Not that the job market for tech grads doesn't suck right now, but I'm always suspicious whenever the media trots out these various sob stories because there's always more going on than what they're pushing.

Did Mishra do any internships or part-time work while in college? College isn't just "get my degree and don't do shit else," you have to have some idea of where you're going with that degree and doing something to network your skills and build experience. And the simple reality is that the vast majority of 20-somethings, regardless of their generation, spend that decade grinding and working shit jobs until they can land something relatively stable.

The reality is that the last generation saw a lot of phony-baloney jobs built off of VC infusions and ZIRP loans from the Fed that were never viable as actual careers. When people at tech companies didn't do anything all day except drink wine, do yoga, and fuck off in a couple of meetings where shit didn't get done, it's clear that the vast majority of those jobs never should have been created. The schools are also responsible for pushing the bullshit "Just get a degree and things will work themselves out" propaganda for the last 50-plus years, while denigrating blue-collar work as something only fit for peon Third World labor.

My first thought was WTF is wrong with Chipotle? Every large company has an IT division and many of them are doing some very complex things custom to their business model.

Reality is, entry level tech positions directly with a company are always competitive. If you want a slot at a tech company or fortune 500, you better have graduated in the top 10% of your class from MIT, built and sold a webapp, or both.

Most firms only hire new grads through a specific program with limited slots. Day-to-day operational positions are for those with experience. Even 25 years ago, most newly minted grads had to work a few years in the contractor mines before getting an FTE role.

        Yeah.

Then, of course, there's also the degree of social media itself. I can't imagine watching one of several "A Day In The Life Of A Microsoft Employee" videos and thinking "That was money well spent."

"“I just graduated with a computer science degree, and the only company that has called me for an interview is Chipotle"

The 'learn to code' stuff is really feeling like a lot of people got in at the bubble phase. People that did well with computer science degrees and cleaned up all did so because they had the skills while the space was growing and demand for their skills was always present. Take that to the extreme with COVID tech money sloshing around. Now all those companies are cutting the fat because they wayyyy over hired, based on planning that the trajectory they were on in 2020-2022 was not an extreme glitch, but the new norm.

I know a guy now retired who did computer science and graphic design. He made his money for years (obviously long ago) making websites for businesses. That's mostly what he did, you give him a concept, he would get you the site, make you a logo, the whole shabang.

Fortunately he is retired happily now, because his entire line of work has been replaced with sites like SquareSpace, at a much lower cost to the consumer.

I mean, Washington D.C. is a special case in that it is the only Federal city in the country so I'm not so sure it's a 'problem' that Federal agents are deployed to combat local crime. The nations capitol shouldn't be such a shit hole, although I'm not so sure that Federal agents will be any better at combating local crime than D.C. police.

Frankly, it should have far less crime than it does given that it is the nations capitol and lawmakers, the President, and other government types either reside or work there. I suspect if it wasn't 'Big Balls' who was the victim of an assault and attempted car jacking, and it was instead a Democrat lawmaker, they'd be freaking out a lot more. Since it was just one of the little people, it would be hard for them to care less.

It's only a matter of time before he declares another fake emergency and deploys federal agents in some place other than D.C. for law enforcement. And when that happens anyone who speaks up about the illegality of it will be called a leftist.

"A federal takeover of the D.C. police force would be an extraordinary assertion of power"

Unfortunately this is false. Federal agencies seize control of city police departments and city governments frequently and have been doing so for a very long time as part of "plea bargains" to settle systemic violations of civil rights and other forms of corruption.
