Tariff Nation
Plus: NPR/PBS funding possibly threatened, Trump's "war authorities," and more...

New tariffs imposed: Yesterday, President Donald Trump announced he would impose a 25 percent tariff on all imported cars starting April 3, and car parts starting May 3.
Half of the cars sold in the United States are imported, and every car built in the U.S. last year contained foreign-made parts—the industry average is about 60 percent.*
"Shares of Toyota Motor Corp. dropped 2% in Tokyo," reports Bloomberg. "In Europe, Stellantis NV fell 4.1%, Valeo SE sank 5.1%, Porsche AG declined 4.3% and Mercedes-Benz Group AG dipped 3.5%. Shares of General Motors Co. were down 6.5% in pre-market trading, while Ford Motor Co. was down 2.6% while Tesla Inc. inched 0.4% higher. The MSCI World Automobiles Index has tumbled 22% so far this year." Markets don't love tariffs, and they sure as hell haven't been loving Trump since he's taken office.

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain says the tariffs "end the free-trade disaster that has devastated working class communities for decades." Not really. They will instead make it extremely hard for normal people to afford new cars while lining government coffers a bit.
Trump envisions these tariffs as permanent, not mere negotiating tools, and he's not stopping there: "Other industry-specific tariffs are also in the works, with Trump threatening levies on lumber, semiconductors and pharmaceutical drugs," reports Bloomberg.
"If the European Union works with Canada in order to do economic harm to the USA, large scale Tariffs, far larger than currently planned, will be placed on them both in order to protect the best friend that each of those two countries has ever had!" wrote Trump on Truth Social in the middle of the night. Again, it's not clear what economic harm he's referring to, or how he believes jacking up car prices for middle-class Americans already struggling with inflation will help. (I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that a pretty scathing Trump tariffs episode—in which I repeatedly attempt to steelman Vice President J.D. Vance's economic policy preferences and can't quite get to something cogent—will be dropped on the Just Asking Questions channel later today, just in time for your evening commute home.)
One last thing. Those paying close attention might notice that the most American-made car, with its price least affected by these policies, just happens to be a Tesla Model 3. Fascinating. Wild that the head of that company just so happens to be a very special government employee.
No more tote bags? Dragged before a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee, NPR and PBS heads were forced to grapple with the bias present at their partially government-funded institutions. NPR President Katherine Maher—yes, the "truth might be a distraction" lady—"said the radio network was wrong to dismiss what was on Hunter Biden's laptop as a non-story," reports the Associated Press. Better late than never, I guess. "After they were repeatedly referenced by Republicans on the committee, Maher said she regretted posting some anti-Trump tweets before she began working for NPR."
Here's a full, hilarious clip of lawmakers reading Maher's own tweets back to her—including those praising author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates and reflecting on how white supremacy manifests in her own life—and her claiming she no longer believes these things:
It really is amazing watching people like Katherine Maher hear things she's said and posted, and be so stunned at how absurd and ridiculous they sound that they deny saying what they've already said

Reason's been hitting this for a long time—the idea that NPR and PBS don't need to be funded by the taxpayers of Burlington, Iowa, or Odessa, Texas (or even by the taxpayers in the coastal-elite metropolises whose worldviews these outlets perhaps better represent). It's all a bad use of taxpayer dollars, a relic of an earlier era (58 years ago!) in which there wasn't nearly as much news selection from which to choose. "The idea that we have an inalienable right to Car Talk or Sesame Street to be piped in over tax-supported airwaves strikes me as a stretch," said Reason's Nick Gillespie back in 2010.
"It's time for the federal government to kick NPR and PBS out of the nest," I argued in 2023. "Your taxpayer dollars should never have been subsidizing Big Bird, Tiny Desk concerts, or those insufferable tote bags in the first place, and they certainly shouldn't now in the era of audiovisual abundance."
Scenes from New York: Employees with the U.S. Postal Service have been charged with kidnapping a colleague and attempting sex acts in the back of a mail track after a party in Manhattan in 2023. A dark story, and a reminder that our country has a long history of Postal Service employees going literally insane and committing terrible crimes (thus the origin of the phrase going postal).

- Plainclothes, masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers took a Tufts University student accused of supporting pro-Palestine/pro-Hamas protests into custody, shipping her off to Louisiana. It took her lawyer almost an entire day to locate her. "A visa is a privilege not a right. Worked so well for Democrats last year didn't it buddy.
You and your ilk have disdain for 1A.
Imagine thinking that people still believe the Democratic Party's narrative.
The photos of those poor people in third world countries wearing White Dudes for Harris shirts mixed amongst the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs regalia suggests that the Democratic Party mission is gaining international support.
Didn't CNN try that with all the border crosses screaming they were for Biden?
I'm still in mourning about Jeff Bridges being such a dbag.

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain says the tariffs "end the free-trade disaster that has devastated working class communities for decades."
The Dems officially lost the autoworkers.
Socialism is only bad when the left does it. It hasn't been tried the "right" way yet.
Trump is a 90's Democrat so you have to grade on a curve.
It's funny cuz it's true.
He's a "classic progressive" like Teddy Roosevelt. Not a "socialist progressive" like Frankie Roosevelt.
And you’re just a full-on communist.
Shrike's a Nazi. He believes in the union of the state with the corporate, rather than replacing the corporate outright.
It's extension of government power regardless.
Sarc 2.0.
Is it not concerning that unions are joining the MAGA cause?
Is it not concerning to have your policy praised by "end the free-trade disaster that has devastated working class communities for decades"?
This is leftist bread and butter; hammer and sickle you might say.
You didn't complain when Democrats did it you hypocrite. That invalidates your criticism and makes whatever the Trump administration does ok.
Your attempts at trolling have gotten really pathetic as of late.
The fact that you didn't complain when Democrats did it, make you a hypocrite, Sarckles.
What free trade? They are free to impose tariffs on the US, but the US is not allowed to reciprocate?
That is the interpretation that the left who pretends to be libertarian want, yes.
You stretch definitions to their breaking points. Commenters here are not naive and they can see when their self proclaimed preceptor is lying or too biased to be useful anymore. You've destroyed your credibility.
And I'm not just trying to be antagonistic or make a gotcha comment (this time). I intend this as constructive criticism and advice you should consider seriously.
Trump says that free trade means tariffs, so free trade means tariffs.
Trump established the External Revenue Service to collect tariffs from foreigners, which means tariffs are taxes on foreigners not Americans.
Trump says tariffs will make us rich, so tariffs will make us rich.
Jesse is just repeating what Trump says, and all the Trump defenders believe it because that's what Trump says.
You're dealing with a religion here. Saying Trump is wrong is like saying Jesus was wrong. You're only going to be met with hostility because you're challenging their religious beliefs.
That would explain it.
I see the simple truth has set some people off lol.
I'm not sure I follow. Or maybe this is in the wrong place?
The US is "free" to reciprocate tariffs, it's just unwise as it causes harm to US consumers for the benefit certain industries/unions and the government.
Reciprocal tariffs can be a useful negotiating tool, but we'd be wise to use other tools that do less harm to ourselves.
You don't get it. What economists call free trade is really Marxism. The Marxists want all industry to wither and die, and be replaced by the State. Just look at all the leftists criticizing Trump's tariffs. They obviously want the auto industry to die, or they would support his tariffs. Same with farming steel, aluminum, energy, lumber, and everything else. If you don't support tariffs and subsidies, then you're a dirty Marxist leftist. Economists are all wrong, and they have been for over two centuries. Comparative advantage and opportunity cost are leftist myths perpetrated by Marxists who want to destroy capitalism. And you fell for it all because you're a Marxist leftist too.
The US is "free" to reciprocate tariffs, it's just unwise as it causes harm to US consumers for the benefit certain industries/unions and the government.
Translation: "It's unethical to punch back when someone's hitting you."
The liberaltarian philosophy in a nutshell.
Economists look at trade from the point of view of the consumer. To economists the purpose of production is consumption. It's not jobs. It's not self sufficiency. It's not to get rich. It's not to sell to foreigners. The purpose of production is consumption, and if consumers can find the product more cheaply from someone else, then they benefit.
Protectionists and mercantilists look at trade from the point of view of producers. To them the purpose of production is jobs. It's self sufficiency. It's to get rich. It's to sell to foreigners. Consumers can go fuck themselves, especially if they want to buy the stuff cheaply from some dirty foreigner.
So from the consumer point of view, unilateral free trade is the way to go. Consumers get the best prices. Producers that can't compete do something else where they have a comparative advantage, and that is a good thing.
And from the protectionist/mercantilist point of view, tariffs must be met with tariffs or consumers will buy the foreigners' stuff and force the producers to compete or do something else. And that's a bad thing.
The liberaltarian philosophy in a nutshell.
This just in:
Trump trumps the Austrian economic theory of Mises, Hayek and Rothbard to redefine proper libertarian economic theory says some guy on the internet.
If you want to be protectionist, go for it, but don't try to sell it as libertarian.
Trump trumps the Austrian economic theory of Mises, Hayek and Rothbard to redefine proper libertarian economic theory says some guy on the internet.
From what I've seen it's not just some internet rando that's been saying that. The GOP and conservatives are kicking people out of their clubs for quoting economists instead of Trump. And that's really what it boils down to: tribalism. Conform or be cast out.
This just in:
Liberaltarians upset when the US punches back.
"When you do unto others as they've done unto you, they win."
Libertarians against the NAP!
They're throwing rocks in their harbors! We need to fill our harbors with rocks too!
They're throwing rocks in their harbors! We need to fill our harbors with rocks too!
Try an analogy that actually fits.
Try an analogy that actually fits.
How does it not fit? The purpose of protective tariffs is to reduce imports by making them more expensive. Another way to reduce imports is to fill the harbors with rocks. It's a very apt analogy. Another apt analogy would be using your military to put up a blockade against yourself to prevent foreigners from bringing goods to your ports.
Liberaltarians upset when the US punches back
If I'm breaking my hand when I punch you and I'm holding a bat, yeah.
Reciprocal tariffs are not the only way to punch back. Trump's a bully in charge of the most powerful nation in the world. He has options and he's not afraid to use them. He's only punching back with tariffs because he loves tariffs. I mean, he's fighting the drug war and immigration with tariffs (if we are to believe his rhetoric).
None of these guys responding will ever admit to the negatives or costs of their viewpoints. They think cost is static to itself without any downstream effects.
None of them will even recognize the costs we saw through production and supply chain disruption from offshoring we saw during and post covid. It is wild.
They won't admit the increased welfare state caused by this offshoring.
They wont admit to the increased domestic costs due to not being able to sell internationally, and even buying from foreign companies who produce through theft of IP. Ignoring IRAD and development costs get spread across number of items sold.
They will just stick to their bumper sticker in ignorance.
They won't admit the increased welfare state caused by this offshoring.
Do something that puts people on welfare, then argue you did them a favor because the shit they need to buy with that welfare check is so cheap. Right before they mock you for being on welfare.
A hundred years ago half of the population was farmers. Now it's two percent. That must mean we've got mass unemployment and no food, right?
A hundred years ago half of the population was farmers. Now it's two percent. That must mean we've got mass unemployment and no food, right?
Is that why we have to sustain the population ponzi scheme of mass migration?
I'm surprised too that many don't recognize that this is the exact same as Randi Weingarten railing against school choice
Is it not concerning to have your policy praised by "end the free-trade disaster that has devastated working class communities for decades"?
Were those communities gutted or not by the general trend of offshoring that NAFTA opened the floodgates to in the 1990s?
We could argue all day about why manufacturing declined in the US. Considering that tariffs hurt domestic industries and job creation, I'll go with a simple NO, those communities were gutted by regulation, bureaucracy and technology.
We could argue all day about why manufacturing declined in the US.
Translation: "I can't actually dispute what you said."
Considering that tariffs hurt domestic industries and job creation
Really? Doesn't seem to have had that effect in the 1800s and especially the Gilded Age, when the US was taking in millions of poor-ass immigrants, and became a manufacturing powerhouse by the time Theodore Roosevelt took office.
Translation: "I can't actually dispute what you said."
Except I did in the next sentence.
Really? Doesn't seem to have had that effect in the 1800s and especially the Gilded Age, when the US was taking in millions of poor-ass immigrants, and became a manufacturing powerhouse by the time Theodore Roosevelt took office.
Of course it did.
We could argue all day about why manufacturing declined in the US.
Manufacturing has not declined. That's a lie.
Manufacturing employment has declined. Manufacturing output is at an all time high.
And there's no argument as to why. The reason is automation. Factory floors are filled with robots and machines being attended by a small number of people making good money. Not a large number of people doing menial, repetitive tasks for shit money.
Bullshit. All manufacturing that cannot be cost effectively automated has moved offshore. Manufacturing that cannot afford regulatory penalties for environmental reasons are moved offshore.
Large portions of commercial aircraft are now being built in third world countries. And Americans wonder why planes fall out of the sky. We have Mexico, the EU has Tunisia. Everyone has China.
All manufacturing that cannot be cost effectively automated has moved offshore.
You mean manufacturing that has not been automated yet remains offshore. When people figure out how to automate it then it might move here, because our comparative advantage in manufacturing is having the capital to build automated factories. As a result our manufacturing workers are incredibly productive, by orders of magnitude above their offshore counterparts, and paid orders of magnitude more money for it.
Have you reluctantly conceded the fact that manufacturing employment is down while manufacturing output is at an all time high, or are you going to keep repeating that lie?
“those communities were gutted by regulation, bureaucracy and technology.”
So we’ve severely disadvantaged domestic producers with those things (along with minimum wage laws and special treatment for unions), while helping to make offshoring and importing more advantaged, right? I can see the logic in why someone would say that we need to reverse course on that and tariffs are the easiest way to disadvantage offshoring/importing.
Are tariffs the best way to do that? I can see the argument that they’re better than doing nothing. I’d argue that the obvious solution would be to reduce those regulations and bureaucracies. Unfortunately the President is quite limited in what he can do on that front (although that ruling on Chevron might help) so tariffs are the tool he chooses.
Hi DesigNate,
So we’ve severely disadvantaged domestic producers with those things (along with minimum wage laws and special treatment for unions), while helping to make offshoring and importing more advantaged, right?
Right
I can see the logic in why someone would say that we need to reverse course on that
Sure
and tariffs are the easiest way to disadvantage offshoring/importing.
At what cost? The overwhelming majority of economists will say the it will be a net loss of jobs and manufacturing. The reason is because now some money goes to the government and there are more losses that economists call deadweight losses. It's fighting fire with fire and we're burning.
Yawn. I don’t really care much about this tariff topic, mostly because I think it will be much ado about nothing in the end.
But I can’t help but notice that you anti tariff catastrophists are sounding a lot like the America last beta cuck climate catastrophists who think that we should be sending billions of dollars to shithole countries for “climate justice”.
I mean, we can afford one sided disadvantaged trade deals better than they can, right? Why not just suck it up? For the greater good.
The entire rationale for tariffs is "for the greater good."
Hmm. Well, you’re not disputing that our exporters are at a disadvantage, so I guess there’s that.
I dunno. When you have a “we’ll drop to zero if you do” offer on the table for years and get no takers I have a hard time objecting to trying something different.
Fuck em. Let’s see what happens. I don’t think we’re “all gonna be rich” and we might not even reshore much manufacturing, but let’s see if we can even up the terms a bit.
We’ll be fine. And they do need us more than we need them. Why not act like it?
MAGA, bitches. Haha.
Yeah, it's not that I think our current situation is great, I just think it's tariffs are a net loser and we'd be better off negotiating with other tactics. Something like drop your tariffs or we'll leave Nato and stop funding Ukraine. And if they don't, we win anyway. Trump/Vance are just the guys to do it too.
Oh there will definitely be costs, and it behooves tariff supporters to acknowledge those. I think it’s important to be honest that even if they’re successful in their purported goal, it’s not like “good paying” jobs don’t come with their own price tags (never mind other less obvious costs).
“The overwhelming majority of economists will say the it will be a net loss of jobs and manufacturing.”
I get that’s what they say will happen, I’m disinclined to agree for a couple of reasons: 1. There are just too many variables to really predict an outcome, especially if we’re able to reduce regulations at the same time (even by a little) and 2. We’ve already seen a net loss in jobs from the current policies, which seems to be handwaved away in a lot of these discussions we have (royal we).
Totally agree that we can only use this particular tactic so much before it stops working though.
When have tarrifs been socialism? I fact it's the only tax mentioned in the constitution
Since they were used for planned economies.
WWKD? (What would Klaus (Schwab) do?)
Plan a world economy, I guess.
Impose huge terrifs against the US, while having the US maintain low import terrifs, shut down small businesses to consolidate power, and push for open boarders in order to gut the American middleclass. Because the middle class are the most resistant to global socialism
He has not been exactly subtly about what he wants
You don't understand trade itself if you think tariffs work that way. Selling exports is how people get the money to buy imports. If foreigners raise their tariffs to reduce our exports to them, they also reduce how much money we have to buy imports from them. It is impossible to have them out of balance. Dollars out have to equal dollars in, unless foreigners are doing something stupid like burning dollars, and all that does is help us.
Dollars out equal dollars in. The so-called trade deficit is only in goods and services and expressly excludes investments. Once those are added back in, they come out even. You cannot buy more imports than you sell exports. Restricting exports from us reduces how much we can import from them.
It's really really simple.
I was saying what Klaus schwa wants.
“If foreigners raise their tariffs to reduce our exports to them, they also reduce how much money we have to buy imports from them.”
I get the idea of this, but how does that track when the purchasing power of your average American is still higher than almost every other country on earth? Obviously if they were buying more of our stuff we’d have even more to spend on their stuff, but we already have more to spend on their stuff.
The actual socialist globalists are angry that their lie of unilateral trade being free trade continues to be exposed.
The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history. All of our countries will benefit greatly.
- President Donald J. Trump
So is he a socialist globalist or just a liar?
I get it. You think you found a good talking point to defend your lie so you'll use it multiple times today even though it has been responded to.
Who surrounded Trump his first term? The same people who have a religious belief in the unilateral trade lie you do. He does notnhave those people this time. Bessent is a far better pick than his first term pick.
Maybe he is capable of seeing actual data and results and evolving beliefs. Maybe you should gain this capability as well.
Or maybe he's just an economic moron.
Stop pretending Trump is perfect. It makes you look like just another suckup brown noser.
LMAO. Defend Trump at all costs!
Wow. What an intelligent response. You got me here.
Meanwhile was has been the outcome of 50 years of your preferred trade system? What's the welfare system look like? What happened during covid?
No wonder you dumbfucks can never get past your bumper stickers lol.
What's the welfare system look like?
The Great Society, is the result of international trade?
What happened during covid?
Trump signed the Cares Act, printing trillions so governors could lockdown the economy.
Real winner in defense of Trump that was. But oh that's right his hands were tied, Congress passed the law that he negotiated, championed, attacked anyone who questioned it and signed it. But yeah you don't defend Trump, at all cost; you're super smart and know he was just playing 6d chess.
Holy shit you're fucking ignorant. Where is the middle class in proportion to GDP today as compared to the 70s when unilateral trade policies truly took off, especially the concept the US can never respond? Are you this fucking ignorant?
What is the rise of welfare since that point? Are you this fucking ignorant?
Was there any supply chain disruptions causing a large price increases during covid? Now you're just being intentionally retarded.
It is amusing you won't answer simple questions because you know you're wrong.
You can define words any way you want, just as "true" socialists claim National Socialists were not true socialists.
Free trade can mean anything you want. Unilateral low tariffs in the face of foreigners' high tariffs is one definition, but obviously not yours. Unfortunately for you, unilateral low tariffs have been proven to be better than trade wars, in real life.
You can't change reality just by changing how you define a phrase.
Unfortunately for you, unilateral low tariffs have been proven to be better than trade wars, in real life.
The US was not a Third World country before NAFTA passed or American corps offshored manufacturing to China and Vietnam.
The US is a manufacturing powerhouse. Manufacturing output has never been higher. What is down is manufacturing jobs. That's not because of offshoring. It's because of automation.
Manufacturing employment peaked in the 70s and had declined ever since. Why? That's when robots and computers became useful.
If manufacturing moves back here as Trump says it will, the factory floors will be filled with machines and robots, just like every other manufacturing plant in this country. Most of the jobs will be in the production, programming and maintenance of those machines and robots, not in doing grunt work.
Please learn the difference between manufacturing output and employment. Educate yourself on what manufacturing in this country looks like, and why.
That way you won't buy the lies peddled by politicians and their shills.
Ignorant people say WE DON'T MAKE ANYTHING IN THE USA TODAY!
I was an ERP (manufacturing) consultant for years. There used to be hundreds of people at every plant that opened mail or sat on the phone and keyed purchase and sales orders into a system.
Now EDI does it all - no people. All computerized orders based on a little file that is automatic based on EOQ/demand.
More production - at half the people - ERP and robotics.
turd lies. That's not a surprise to anyone who reads his constant stream of bullshit.
But it's becoming obvious that as Misek is too stupid to understand the concepts of "evidence" or "relevance", the concept of "honesty" is simply beyond turd's ken.
turd is a TDS-addled lying pile of lefty shit
"" the factory floors will be filled with machines and robots, just like every other manufacturing plant in this country.""
Musk gets it.
"As appealing as abundant income might sound, Musk is concerned about the meaning we draw from our work. In a future where robots and AI systems outperform us at almost everything, he worries about human dignity, identity, and fulfillment.
"The harder challenge is how do people then have meaning," Musk said. "If you're not needed, if there's not a need for your labor, how do you find meaning? Do you feel useless?"""
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/i-don-t-think-we-re-going-to-have-a-choice-elon-musk-predicts-universal-income-will-eventually-be-high-but-fears-people-will-feel-useless/ar-AA1zRGcy
If manufacturing moves back here as Trump says it will, the factory floors will be filled with machines and robots, just like every other manufacturing plant in this country. Most of the jobs will be in the production, programming and maintenance of those machines and robots, not in doing grunt work.
If that was the case, you wouldn't have guys like the mayor of Springfield Ohio claiming he needs 10,000 Haitian "refugees" to work 1,000 jobs in his factory for peanuts, while the native population has to exist on welfare checks.
If you looked into it further you'd see those jobs are in warehouses and distribution centers, not factory floors. By the way, I thought that that mayor had zero credibility because he contradicted Trump about Haitians eating cats.
If you looked into it further you'd see those jobs are in warehouses and distribution centers, not factory floors.
And? Isn't actual work better than collecting a welfare check?
By the way, I thought that that mayor had zero credibility because he contradicted Trump about Haitians eating cats.
He does have zero credibility because he claimed he needed 10,000 immigrants to fill 1,000 jobs. The point is that he had a population right in his own town that could be employed, he was simply looking for peon labor to exploit.
Well the conversation went from no manufacturing to a mayor defending an influx of immigrants. Talk about moving the goalposts. I'm done playing. Have a nice day.
You make it sould like we have offshored all manufacturing, and that is nonsense. We have more manufacturing capacity now than ever before. American workers earn more pay because American manufacturing is more productive.
Take Trump bragging about bringing back furniture manufacturing. Read this (https://cafehayek.com/2025/03/lets-not-bring-back-furniture-manufacturing.html) for a description of how counter-productive that is.
What next, we bring back 1800s-era farming because it's the job count that matters, not the efficiency or productivity or output? Ban ATMs and dial phones and bring back tellers, phone switchboard operators, and elevator operators?
Right, let's bring back every low level manufacturing job possible, lower wages, run out of time and workers to produce high tech goods, and ban restaurants, hotels, vacations, and other service jobs because manufacturing job count is all that matters.
Central planning, industrial policy, they are the same stupid socialist mentality that distrusts individuals because they dare to want separate things. All hail Trump, because he knows everything and has all the wisdom and knowledge necessary to make all economic decisions for everybody.
Fuck that noise.
Right, let's bring back every low level manufacturing job possible, lower wages, run out of time and workers to produce high tech goods, and ban restaurants, hotels, vacations, and other service jobs because manufacturing job count is all that matters.
Please. What you're arguing for is a two-tier neofeudal system with a class of high-paid white collar workers supported by a mass of sub-paid peon service labor.
And in case you're too fucking young or ill-read to remember, those service industries existed throuhgout the manufacturing towns SPECIFICALLY because the money from those jobs supported the local service economy already. These days, the only way that happens if is pass-through tourists happen to stop by for five minutes to take a piss, gas up, and get takeout from the McDonalds while everyone in town has to get their groceries from a fucking Dollar Store. You might think that's just fine and should be the economic model for the entire country, but in reality its a shit way for communities to try and survive.
The issue we have is to rely on other countries for necessary items is a terrible idea, one we showed was a really bad idea in 2020. Relying heavily on China for so many needed things is the worst idea we have chased for decades.
For QB, SAGN, sarc, all the industrial and supply chain issues and costs that literally happened during and post covid never happened. If they admitted it they'd have to maybe change their stance.
Yeah, it happened. My stance doesn't change. Why would it?
The DoD already identified years ago that our military hardware and cyber systems were horribly vulnerable to backdoors by Chinese agencies simply due to the fact that so much tech is manufactured there.
Having a robust domestic manufacturing sector that employs actual American workers rather than peon immigrant labor isn't just proper from an economic standpoint, it's one from a national security standpoint as well.
Sure it has. The Nazis ("National Socialists") were right wingers, yes?
No, Nazis were never socialists.
Yes, Nazis were always right wingers.
Therefore ipso dipso right wing socialism doesn't work either.
Or something. They confuse me, these right wing socialists. Don't even get me started on left wing anarchism where "private property" is heresy and everything down to toothbrushes and underwear is possessed by communities.
And you will wear that underwear on the outside so we can check.
"...No, Nazis were never socialists..."
Any ignoramus who believes this needs to read Tooze, "Wages of Destruction" and Pipes, "The Russian Revolution".
Hitler's moves to nationalize the economy read as a direct copy of Lenin's ~20 years earlier.
The Vampire Economy is a fantastic read. It was published one week after Hitler invaded Poland and chock full of example of how the Nazis ruined their economy with price controls and every other facet of socialism. The real value lies in being written before the war started and without any excuses for war time emergencies.
It's in the cart. TY.
Yes, Nazis were always right wingers.
LOL, no. There was never anything explicitly right-wing about the Nazis. That was a false binary set up by the western left after Hitler violated Molotov-Ribbentrop, and passed down for multiple generations as little more than scholastic propaganda (yeah, I remember that stupid political graphic from middle school that showed fascism at the far right end and communism at the far left end. It was total bullshit then, and still is). Before then, they were just seen as garden-variety authoritarians fighting with a bunch of other socialist and marxist-influenced groups.
LOL, no. There was never anything explicitly right-wing about the Nazis.
Hatred of minorities, liberals, higher educaton, elites, democracy, foreigners, trade unions, other races, Jew bankers, and the French.
Just most things.

Lenin and Stalin only allowed gov't sponsored unions, just like Hitler.
Remember: turd lies.
LOL, the hicklib pederast tries to deflect.
So, just like the Soviets.
No one cares about socialism. Neither party is socialist nor advocates for actual socialist polices. The US is less "socialist" than the EU, UK, Japan, SK, Taiwan, Australia, NZ and so on.
You contradict yourself right there. If the US is less socialist than other countries, that means the US is socialist to some extent, which means that one or both parties are socialist.
Socialist is another of those words which has whatever meaning the speaker wants. Your problem right here is trying to define it different in the same comment.

The affirmative action hiring practices of the Postal Service steer a disproportionate number of mentally ill people into their employ.
The US Postal Service recommends that you lick it before you stick it.
Employees with the U.S. Postal Service have been charged with kidnapping a colleague and attempting sex acts in the back of a mail truck after a party in Manhattan in 2023.

Hard to do a rape on a live horse.
Yes, much easier to rape a dead horse.

NPR President Katherine Maher—yes, the "truth might be a distraction" lady—
Dem tiddies sure might be a distraction smokeshow, you mean.
New idea for NPR fundraising: pole dancing.
Note: viewers (listeners?) have the option of donating to see some staff members dance (and strip), and to keep others off the stage.
Seeing as it's NPR, I'd rather not watch a drag show, much less donate money to see one.
United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain says the tariffs "end the free-trade disaster that has devastated working class communities for decades."
Channeling his inner Randy Weingarten. Shutdowns/tariffs must happen till we have zero cases/imports!
The funny part is there was never free trade. It was other countries imposing large tarrifs on us goods and expecting then profiting off of low us tarrifs
Yep, funny how the TDS crowd refuses to say this. Ever.
Funny, since Donald Trump disagrees with you. See below.
Funny you seemingly support large trade bills that are simple a collection of tariffs, caps, and regulations while thinking you're for free trade.
Hia views changed the last years. Maybe you can learn too. That was when his cabinet was neocons and globalists.
No, but I'd take them over the president taxing me, at a higher rate then the agreements, by executive order.
Did this response actually make sense to you? Those large trade bills included tarrifs dumbfucks.
The fact you can't even admit this shows how sophomoric your thinking on the subject is.
You also continue to ignore all other costs your system has. Ignorance must be nice. Can just ignore reality for your religious beliefs.
Those large trade bills included tarrifs dumbfucks.
Yes and now I get to pay those plus EO tariffs. Are you retarded?
The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history. All of our countries will benefit greatly.

You just don't understand tariffs, do you?
* They tax the importers, ie, the consumers in the domestic market, ie Americans.
* They raise prices, which is the whole point of tariffs, to raise import prices so much that domestic producers can raise prices enough to produce the same products domestically. If they didn't raise prices, there'd be no point to them.
* They give the government more money to spend. You like giving government more money to spend? Whatever happened to "Guck you, cut spending"?
Tariffs are stupid, dangerous, and counter-productive. Tariffs as weapons are even dumber. "If you keep hurting your people, we will hurt our people." A dumber weapon is hard to conceive of.
They give the government more money to spend.
Really? Because in the nation's history, government budgets were actually pretty small when the US relied on tariffs to mostly pay the bills. It wasn't until the passage of the 16th Amendment that the federal government began finding reasons to spend more money.
What do you think tariffs are, paid by the exporters on the other end?
They are import taxes, paid by importers to the domestic government.
Get it? Taxes. Revenue. More to spend.
Learn some history about tariffs before the Civil War, how politicians kept wanting more tariffs to build canals and railroads and ports.
Gadzooks that is some ignorance on parade.
THow about you pull up some actual fucking numbers for comparative purposes versus a bunch of glittering generalities with no math behind it?
Or are you claiming that the federal government was smaller back then versus today, even on a relative basis?
And yes, the reason they wanted more tariffs for those projects is because THAT'S HOW THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT RAISED FUNDS TO PAY FOR SUCH PROJECTS, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO FUCKING INCOME TAX, THE DOLLAR WAS PEGGED TO THE GOLD STANDARD, AND THERE WAS NO FEDERAL RESERVE TO ISSUE ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF DEBT TO COVER THE SPENDING DEMAND.
Talk about ignorance on parade.
It really is amazing watching people like Katherine Maher hear things she's said and posted, and be so stunned at how absurd and ridiculous they sound that they deny saying what they've already said...
Maybe she shared a social media staff with Biden. Neither of them recall any of their tweets.
It really was astonishing to watch. A reminder next time a wave of hysteria comes to fruition from a mass psy op. These people saying and doing this batshit crazy stuff will pretend it never happened and it wasnt them
"My thinking has evolved since then".
Sure it has toots.
But it was good that it did/didn't happen.
There is a good chance a lot of people like her are going to go right back to ringing the WHITE SUPREMACY IS EVERYWHERE bell just as soon as a (D) is back in office.
Those paying close attention might notice that the most American-made car, with its price least affected by these policies, just happens to be a Tesla Model 3.
Trump has been pushing protectionist tariffs since before Elon became MAGA. It's not like Musk needed to bribe him.
EV's have a 100% tariff. Which happens to have been imposed by Biden building on a Trump tariff.
More Tesla Model 3's are made in Shanghai than in all other Tesla factories combined. But those are not sold back into the US. Nor are the other EVs made in Shanghai that can sell at price points of $15,000
Whatever thoughts this author is trying to put down are void of intelligence. As usual
I listen to a lot of NPR and my favorite tic of theirs is what I like to call Two Good Facts/Two Bad Facts. Once you hear it you can’t unhear it.
If it’s a Dem policy or politician, they get Two Good Facts. “Kamala Harris, who is (1) gaining in the polls, has a new proposal to (2) do a good thing.” One is too few and three is too many, so they have to get exactly two.
GOP stuff gets Two Bad Facts. “Legislation x, which has (1) been criticized by the National association of sympathetic figures, is (2) losing support among key members of the committee to do things.”
My favorite Random Bad Fact was from a few years ago. NPR was doing some story about a guy that was mad at Mitch McConnell for something - I can't remember. After sympathetically portraying the dude's complaints, the reporter with his smug-ass NPR voice says:
"Mitch McConnell was once photographed standing in front of a Confederate flag."
End of story.
It had nothing to do with anything - the story wasn't about the confederacy. But goddammit they needed to get their Second Bad Fact to meet their quota.
Donnie's stupid fucking tariffs are wrecking the economy. You MAGA goons are enabling the idiot.

Plus the amount of hate you have for the first sitting American president to visit the Kotel, and have a Jewish daughter and grandkids tips your hat.
You hate Jews and you know it. You're always complaining about "Jew bankers" and finance men.
You support Trump and his rebuild of Gaza. That is nation-building.
You support central planning and tariffs. Like Donnie.
You supported Donnie's huge spending and deficits. I gave Donnie an F for the economy and Biden a poor grade also (D) for his negligence of the deficit issue. Obama and Clinton both get an A.
You support the takeover of our courts by Christian fundamentalists.
You are a fascist. Not a genocidal one. But one in practice.
That's some A-tier Gish-Gallop, Shrike.
There are so many lies in one post I really don't know where to begin.
Tell you what. Why don't you give us one example, just one, of where I complained about "Jew bankers" (your words)... or where I support the US rebuilding Gaza... or want to be tariffed by Trump.
In the meantime I leave these few gems of yours and let everyone mull over who is the actual racist here:

But any imposition of voting procedures that require personal effort is racist!
It all depends on what the definition of "widespread" is.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/far-left-morning-joe-panelist-wants-dems-to-eliminate-all-voter-registration-laws-to-help-party-win-elections/ar-AA1Byx0B
The Nation’s justice correspondent Elie Mystal argued on “Morning Joe” Monday that all U.S. voter registration laws should be eliminated.
Mystal argued that any American should only have to meet eligibility requirements, such as age, in order to cast a ballot during elections, suggesting that voter registration has a racist and anti-immigrant undertone. He stated that voting rights need to be expanded in order to help more Democrats vote.
“We could eliminate all voter registration laws. You see, when Democrats get in charge we try to protect voting rights. We don’t make voting easier. Now I’m all for voter eligibility requirements, we might disagree with what those requirements should be. But let’s say that there should be an age limit to vote, I might say 16, you might say 18, but I’m not gonna say 8. So we’re gonna agree that there should be voter eligibility requirements, but once you’re eligible, why do you have to preregister? Why is that even a thing?” Mystal said.
This can easily be dismissed by the left by saying "Oh, Trump (and by extension, all the other (R)s) is doing so poorly that I'm going to vote for the other team!"

Yeah, but that was back before the Obama administration and Samantha Power really began using USAID and other government-aligned orgs to run media gayops for their color revolutions.
Hmm, so it looks like Reason is now on a 24/7 cycle of Trump administration criticism, for issues and failures large and small. Remind me, was it like this during Obama and Biden?
Obama and Biden were the souls of libertarianism and never did nothin' wrong.
I mean if they had the Director of the FBI, the Deputy Director of the FBI, the Chief of the Counterespionage Section of the FBI, the Director of the CIA, the Director of National Intelligence, and members of the Justice Department and the State Department illegally spy on members of the opposition political party in an effort to ensure a former Secretary of State wins the Presidency, we would have heard about it from Reason.
Right? Cause that would have been exactly like Watergate except worse because Hunt and Libby were retired CIA. Not active.
Or if the Biden administration, the CIA and the FBI had created a mechanism that allowed them to set up operations at social media companies solely to illegally censor and spy on citizens, I'm also sure that Reason would have been all over it...
Right?

Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
I guess I was mixed up. The crowd can rape the daughters so the guests are not disturbed. My bad.
Well, in context, the guests were angels sent to verify judgement on Sodom, and Lot was trying everything he could to prevent the destruction of Sodom, because he had made it his home, and save the crowd of evil men trying to gangrape his visitors.
It was an example of a foolish compromise made outside of Gods plan, not a biblical commandment
Or could you not be bothered to look beyond the one verse?
Lot or Abraham, anyone willing to sacrifice their kids because they think the sky god wants them to is seriously retarded.
I guess you can't take the slogan "no pain, no gain" in your life? Abraham was tested to see if he would be willing to give up even his most prized achievement. The story showed that no such sacrifices will ever need to be made to "the sky god". To Christians, it's also representative of Jesus' atonement for humanity.
You were refuted and had to change the subject. You are not as smart as you think you are.
As was pointed out, kinda speaks volumes that he'd be in danger at home for being an alcoholic.
Not for banging kids.

UN judge guilty of forcing woman to work as slave
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn892zq6z43o
Caroline Haughey KC, prosecuting, told jurors during the trial: "Lydia Mugambe has exploited and abused [her alleged victim], taking advantage of her lack of understanding of her rights to properly paid employment and deceiving her as to the purpose of her coming to the UK."
She alleged Mugambe, who was studying for a law PhD at the University of Oxford, had conspired with Ugandan deputy high commissioner John Leonard Mugerwa to arrange for the young woman to come to the UK.
Prosecutors said the pair participated in a "very dishonest" trade-off, in which Mr Mugerwa arranged for the Ugandan High Commission to sponsor the woman's entrance into the UK.
In exchange Mugambe would attempt to speak to a judge who was in charge of legal action Mr Mugerwa was named in, jurors heard.
She was also found guilty of conspiring to intimidate the woman to withdraw her support for the prosecution, and to have the charges against her dropped.
Just copying Thomas Jefferson. You know, the guy who invented slavery.
I always do love one sided convictions in stamping their feet. Missed in all these tariffs articles are:
A) tariffs from other countries that manipulate markets
B) the hundreds of billions of promised domestic investment/manufacturing that have already been announced.
C) the downstream costs of the shifting employment out of country such as the wver growing welfare state costs.
D) at least 3 countries, such as India, are now saying they will reduce their own tariffs so US reduces theirs *shocker i know*
E) tariffs don't impose a 1:1 cost increase. The estinate from the tariffs under Trumps first term was China absorbed 87% of the delta.
And then even given C, reason still promotes importing cheap labor into the US making C worse.
Reason doesnt just support importing cheap labor, they support funding migrants to be installed en masse and put on welfare and public assistance forever. I've never been able to figure out why the lolbertarians love that as much as buttsex but it seems to be the case.
Stop lying. Leftist Reason has always supported NPR and PBS because the narrative says so. That means they can't praise Trump for cutting funding because that would make them hypocrites. They need to go back to cheering Democrats because that's what Reason does best.
Your strawmen are getting worse and more pathetic. This is a totally retarded attempt to troll, and it’s a dismal failure.

Top Journal: “Public Health Experts Should Be More Political”
https://dailysceptic.org/2025/03/18/top-journal-public-health-experts-should-be-more-political/
Only a few months ago, Science — America’s leading scientific journal — published an op-ed saying that scientists and scientific institutions need to be even more political than they already are. Now, Nature — Britain’s leading scientific journal — has published a very similar one. (To my knowledge, neither journal has published any article recently making the opposite case — though I’m happy to be corrected if wrong.)
...And what of his main argument? “The real crisis,” he notes, is not that public health has been politicised. “It is that it has not been politicised nearly enough.” You read that right — “not nearly enough”. Later on, he declares that we must “aggressively” politicise public health.
Remember when 1,000 ‘experts’ signed an open letter supporting BLM protests in the middle of a pandemic — on the grounds that “white supremacy is a lethal public health issue”? Or when a group of virologists dismissed the possibility of a lab leak despite one of them writing in private that it was “so friggin’ likely”? Reinhart apparently doesn’t consider this level of politicisation sufficient.

Reuben accused of falsifying Celebrex research
https://www.modernhealthcare.com/article/20100125/MODERNPHYSICIAN/301259987/reuben-accused-of-falsifying-celebrex-research
Anesthesiologist Scott Reuben, M.D., the former chief of acute pain at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., was charged with healthcare fraud for allegedly falsifying medical research conducted on behalf of Pfizer. The hospital disclosed in March 2009 that it had discovered Reuben falsified results in 21 painkiller studies. The U.S. attorney focused on a $75,000 grant Reuben received from Pfizer in 2005 to study the effectiveness of the company's pain drug Celebrex with patients following a particular type of surgery, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Reuben never actually enrolled any patients in the study, the government alleged in court documents, and then submitted positive results to the company and for publication in the journal Anesthesia & Analgesia that “were wholly made up by Reuben and therefore false.” If convicted, Reuben faces up to 10 years in prison. His lawyer did not immediately return a call requesting comment.

Dutch study: immigration costs state €17 billion per year
https://unherd.com/newsroom/dutch-study-immigration-costs-state-e17-billion-per-year/
The Dutch findings are mirrored in a similar study conducted by the Danish Finance Ministry, which concludes that non-Western immigrants are most likely to remain lifelong recipients of public finances compared to their Western or native Danish peers. Meanwhile, the picture in Germany is not much different: about 45% of those who receive unemployment benefits are not German citizens, costing the taxpayers around €20 billion per year. Austria shows similar numbers, with almost 60% of recipients having a “migrant background”.

California’s Medi-Cal shortfall hits $6.2 billion with ‘unprecedented’ cost increases
https://calmatters.org/health/2025/03/medi-cal-shortfall-worsens/
California health care officials told the Legislature on Monday that the state will need another $2.8 billion to be able to pay Medi-Cal providers through the end of the fiscal year.
That’s on top of a $3.4 billion loan that the administration told lawmakers last week it needed to make “critical” payments for Medi-Cal, the state-federal health insurance program for low-income people.
Combined, that’s $6.2 billion in spending above what was projected in the budget Gov. Gavin Newsom signed last summer. Almost 15 million Californians have health care coverage through Medi-Cal, also known as Medicaid.

How much would one-way plane tickets to Mogadishu cost for them?
Asian and African Immigrants are very aware of the comparative financial circumstances in various locations - which countries and in the US which states have work requirements, term limits, and what the amounts are. They all want to go to the places with the best "salaries" which is what they call welfare benefits. They aren't coming with the intent to work, they think getting welfare is working.
The solution here is classic libertarian: end welfare without restrictions.
That's excellent but not achievable. Reforming immigration to keep out people who lack the skills to succeed economically is an achievable step.
So President Trump is "using war authorities" in the absence of a declared war when he deports Venezuelans, but it's not "war plans" (just "attack plans") to bomb the Houthis because there is no declared war.
No. First of all, one part of the Act says "That whenever there shall be a declared war between the United States and any foreign nation or government, or any invasion or predatory incursion shall be perpetrated, attempted, or threatened against the territory of the United States, by any foreign nation or government."
Providing that either a "declared war" OR other things. The question then is whether TdA represents a "predatory incursion...by any foreign nation", which would allow the President to act under this language.
This language is telling, as explained by the progressive Brennan Center before last year, well before Trump was reelected...
https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/alien-enemies-act-explained
Under what conditions can the president invoke the Alien Enemies Act?
The president may invoke the Alien Enemies Act in times of “declared war” or when a foreign government threatens or undertakes an “invasion” or “predatory incursion” against U.S. territory. The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the power to declare war, so the president must wait for democratic debate and a congressional vote to invoke the Alien Enemies Act based on a declared war. But the president need not wait for Congress to invoke the law based on a threatened or ongoing invasion or predatory incursion. The president has inherent authority to repel these kinds of sudden attacks — an authority that necessarily implies the discretion to decide when an invasion or predatory incursion is underway.
[but most of the rest of that article is trying to explain why those words don't grant any such power...]
That bolded part completely negates the rest of the law. It means the president can deport anyone, at any time, for no reason, because he says so. Just like how the word "militia" negates the rest of the 2A and only gives the right to keep and bear arms to the National Guard. Brilliant!
I can see why several have you on mute. Don’t worry, buddy, I’m not gonna mute you. I have too much fun mocking you.
I got him muted, but occasionally un-mute him to make sure he knows he's recognized as the steaming pile of lying, TDS-addled shit he is.
Yeah seems to me there are two criteria in the law. Does the presence of Tda and MS13 qualify as a predatory incursion, and was it perpetrated by Venezuela. And the administration's actions are not an act of war only deportations. We can disagree with Trump's interpretation of the law but it seems like the purpose of the law is to allow for immediate action on the part of the executive. There may be individuals in the group of deportees who do not meet the claimed association and they can file a writ and have their claims adjudicated. And a court could find the statute itself to be unconstitutional and the case could be litigated for years. In the meantime I don't see that a district court has the ability to question the administration's interpretation or rule on the constitutionality without even holding a trial. I really don't see this as a complicated issue.
That's 'cause you haven't shopped enough jurisdictions to find a steaming pile of TDS-addled shit judge.
The correct position, held by almost no one, is that voter ID laws are eminently reasonable, and also will make almost no difference to election outcomes.
If the later was even remotely true, Democrats wouldn't fight so hard against it.
I can see the perception that they're fighting for voters' rights (yeah!) as what's valuable to them, not the actual people voting who don't have IDs.
I love Megan, but she has a fanciful idea of what we "know" because fundamentally she's a technocrat. But the more important focus is preventing ballot harvesting.
They have been key partners and pioneers for all of the actions currently being undertaken by the Trump administration in this domain.

The correct position, held by almost no one, is that voter ID laws are eminently reasonable, and also will make almost no difference to election outcomes.

One man threatened Torres, telling him, “I’m going to get 20 guys up here to fuck you up,” according to the complaint. Another protester repeatedly hit him in the back.
During the Hamilton Hall takeover, Wilson says in his complaint, the protesters shoved him, rammed furniture into him, and trapped him. When he asked the protesters to release him, they repeatedly called him a “Jew-lover,” “Jew-worker,” and “Zionist,” the complaint says.

Is This the Key Aide Behind Biden Autopen Pardons? Biden White House Staff Secretary Lashes Out at Trump For Declaring Biden’s Autopen Pardons “Void”
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/03/is-this-key-aide-behind-biden-autopen-pardons/
Last week the Oversight Project revealed six criminals were pardoned by Biden’s autopen on December 30, 2022 while Joe Biden was vacationing and golfing in St. Croix.
According to The New York Post’s Steve Nelson, a key Biden aide may have exceeded their authority by unilaterally determining what documents to robo-sign.
The New York Post knows the name of the key Biden aide, but they did not disclose their identity in Friday’s bombshell report.
An insider told The New York Post that he feared this key Biden aide: “I feared no one as much as I feared that [staffer]. To me, [the staffer] basically was the president,” the person said. “No one ever questioned [the staffer]. Period.”
If these pardons were created and signed without Biden’s knowledge, then are they even valid?

Concerns about judicial impartiality extend beyond Judge James Boasberg’s recent rulings. Notably, his daughter, Katherine Boasberg, is associated with Partners for Justice, a nonprofit organization that provides legal services to underserved communities. Reports indicate that approximately 76% of the funding for this organization comes from government grants, some of which are indirectly linked to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Judge James Boasberg not only has his daughter, Katharine, involved in the nonprofit sector, but his sister, Margaret Boasberg, is also engaged in the “nonprofit” sphere.

"Not really. They will instead make it extremely hard for normal people to afford new cars . . . "
News flash, Liz; it has been hard to impossible for normal people to afford new cars for years. It has little to do with tariffs and a lot to do with democrat economic policy.
Just for the record, when Trump imposed tariffs the first time, the inflation increase was zero.
Well, if only those normal people had learned to code, right?
(And yes, that never was the right thing. In reality, normal people learned things like plumbing and nursing and can afford cars. The "normal" people went deep into debt to get college degrees in grievance studies, and now can't afford bus fare.)
Inside The Now-Shuttered Federal Agency Where Employees Lived ‘Like Reigning Kings’
https://hotair.com/headlines/2025/03/19/inside-the-now-shuttered-federal-agency-where-employees-lived-like-reigning-kings-n3800924
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) occupied a nine-story office tower on D.C.’s K Street for only 60 employees, many of whom actually worked from home, prior to the pandemic. Its managers had luxury suites with full bathrooms; one manager would often be “in the shower” when she was needed, while another used her bathroom as a cigarette lounge. FMCS recorded its director as being on a years-long business trip to D.C. so he could have all of his meals and living expenses covered by taxpayers, simply for showing up to the office.
...Top FMCS official George Cohen used a “recreation and reception fund” to order champagne and $200 coasters for his office, and to purchase artwork painted by his wife. The tiny agency commissioned paintings of its top employees — as one employee told me, “like they were reigning kings or something…I’ve never seen anything like it before.” It spent $2,402 retouching the portrait of someone who briefly held the top job in an acting capacity.
FMCS employees “unblocked” their government credit cards to turn off typical abuse protections, then used them to apparently fund personal expenses and simply bill anything they’d like to the government. One employee leased a BMW; another (IT director James Donnen) billed the government for his wife’s cell phone, cable TV at both his home and his vacation home, and even his subscription to USA Today.
The sad part of this story is that it was reported more than a decade go. Nothing happened because nobody in the government cares about wasted money. They believe spending money is good in itself, getting something for it is entirely irrelevant.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A jury found the alleged ringleader of a massive pandemic fraud case in Minnesota guilty on all counts Wednesday for her role in a scheme that federal prosecutors say stole $250 million from a program meant to feed children in need.
Aimee Bock — founder of Feeding our Future, the group at the heart of the plot — was one of 70 defendants charged in the overall case, which prosecutors said was the nation’s single largest fraud scheme against COVID-19 relief programs.
The Minnesota case has also drawn attention for an attempt to bribe a juror in an earlier trial and witness tampering in Bock’s trial, which began last month. Thirty-seven defendants have already pleaded guilty, while five were convicted in a group of defendants who were tried last year.
Powerline has a great series on this for anyone interested. The crux of the case is that they just made up the names of students they provide meals to and called anyone questioning them racist. I wonder where they learned that?
The billed for thousands of student meals / day but did so incompetently by making the daily totals both impossibly high and exactly the same most days. When the FBI investigated they found virtually no one entering the facilities even though the reported meal totals would have made them the busiest restaurants in the country.
With Orders, Investigations and Innuendo, Trump and G.O.P. Aim to Cripple the Left
The president and his allies in Congress are targeting the financial, digital and legal machinery that powers the Democratic Party and much of the progressive political world.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/us/politics/trump-republicans-attack-democrats-actblue.html
...The billionaire Elon Musk, the top Trump donor leading the administration’s cost-cutting initiative, has appeared to encourage investigations of institutions that form the financial backbone of the left. They include ActBlue, the donation platform that helps fund virtually the entire Democratic Party and that congressional Republicans are already probing, and Arabella Advisors, a consulting firm that manages difficult-to-trace “dark money” groups that collectively have spent billions of dollars helping Democrats and their causes.

I'm sure that some of them felt remorse, so they should be excused. I'm sure some of them just jacked off, so they should be excused. And of course, their culture doesn't tell them it is not acceptable to gang rape a 12-year-old girl, so they should be excused.
No doubt she was immodestly dressed.

The families of the hostages are suing pro-Hamas organizations operating here in the US. The lawsuit contains a bombshell revelation: “three minutes before Hamas began its attack on October 7th, Columbia SJP posted on Instagram “We are back.” Before the 10/7 posting, Columbia SJP’s account had been inactive for months, only to be suspiciously reactivated minutes before the 10/7 terror attacks. The timing seems too coincidental to be a coincidence.
If there are organizations here in the US that had advance knowledge of the 10/7 attacks, which led to the murder of American citizens, the American people have a right to know the full truth.
yes. yes we do.
Why Should Immigrants ‘Respect Our Borders’? The West Never Respected Theirs
Immigration quotas should be based on how much the host country has ruined other countries.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/07/opinion/immigration-reparations.html
The creditor countries aren’t seriously suggesting that the West send sacks of gold bullion every year to India or Nigeria. Their people are asking for fairness: for the borders of the rich countries to be opened to goods and people, to Indian textiles as well as Nigerian doctors. In seeking to move, they are asking for immigration as reparations.
Today, a quarter of a billion people are migrants. They are moving because the rich countries have stolen the future of the poor countries. Whether it is Iraqis and Syrians fleeing the effects of illegal American wars, or Africans seeking to work for their former European colonial masters, or Guatemalans and Hondurans trying to get into the country that peddles them guns and buys their drugs: They are coming here because we were there.
Before you ask them to respect our borders, ask yourself: Has the West ever respected anyone’s borders?
A vast majority of migrants move from a poor to a less poor country, not a rich one. Immigration quotas should be based on how much the host country has ruined other countries. Britain should have quotas for Indians and Nigerians; France for Malians and Tunisians; Belgium for very large numbers of Congolese.
And when they come, they should be allowed to bring their families and stay — unlike the “guest workers” who were enticed to build up the postwar labor force of the colonizers and then asked to leave

Judge James Boasberg was just assigned to the case involving the Signal chat. The same judge who tried stopping Trump from deporting terrorists.
NPR and PBS should be defunded.
I do not see any reason why the taxpayers should pay for these leftist propaganda site...and have you ever noticed how one or both are always having a telethon for...wait for it...more money!
Sure, Wolfe is favor of defunding NPR and PBS now when it's an impossible hypothetical, but if Trump or Musk actually tried to defund them, there would be half a dozen articles on Reason's front page decrying their efforts because orange Tesla men bad.

gonna educate your readers on standing or gonna wishcast?
Seeing as it's before Judge James Boasberg, I'm sure he'll not only grant standing, but issue some sort of TRO or grant $100B to the plaintiffs.
yes. likely.

The problem with this one is that these idiots mostly do their bullshit in Europe. Every time they've tried it in the US, they tend to get put down pretty aggressively, either by citizens or the local police, since no one wants to deal with their bullshit and they don't have the cover of their skin color to justify it.
If they're actually serious about dialing things back, it's because their funding streams are getting cut off from somewhere and they can't pay people to protest. It's certainly not because the nutless law enforcement offices in the UK and other European castrato countries are going to suddenly start cracking down on them.
