Nikki Haley Slams Biden's 'Green Subsidies'
The GOP presidential candidate also definitively said climate change is real.

At the first Republican debate of the 2024 campaign season, moderators Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum asked the eight assembled candidates about issues like abortion, the war in Ukraine, and the national debt.
The candidates also fielded a question about climate change, and at least one took it seriously.
Spurred by a question from a college student, MacCallum asked the candidates to raise their hands if they believe "human behavior is causing climate change." Gov. Ron DeSantis objected to the hand-raising aspect of the question, while entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy declared "the climate change agenda is a hoax" and decried "the anti-carbon agenda." But former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said yes: "Is climate change real? Yes it is. But if you really wanna go and change the environment, then we need to start telling China and India that they have to lower their emissions."
Haley also went after President Joe Biden's energy policies and the electric vehicle (E.V.) subsidies contained in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. "These green subsidies that Biden has put in," she said, "all he's done is help China," because "half of the batteries for electric vehicles are made in China. So, that's not helping the environment. You're putting money in China's pocket."
Haley was slightly off: China assembles 54 percent of the world's electric vehicles, but it makes over 70 percent of the world's E.V. batteries. And while China is responsible for 30 percent of the world's carbon emissions—twice as much as the U.S.'s share—India only emits 7 percent.
Haley's claim about the subsidies themselves—that they're "putting money in China's pocket"—is harder to quantify. In drafting the incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act, lawmakers like Sen. Joe Manchin (D–W.Va.) intentionally excluded manufacturers from outside the U.S. (specifically China). In doing so, they also excluded the European Union, which Manchin later admitted he hadn't realized.
Even if Haley's numbers were a little hazy, though, the Inflation Reduction Act's incentives are wasteful and counterproductive market distortions.
Beyond the issue of subsidies, Haley's acknowledgement that climate change is real is a welcome development. A 2013 poll found that 58 percent of Republicans thought climate change was a "hoax." But there is evidence that the party may be softening: A 2022 Pew Research Center poll found that 73 percent of Republican respondents under 40 years old thought climate change was an "extremely" or "somewhat" serious problem, compared to 58 percent of Republicans as a whole. Wednesday night's exchange was prompted by a college student who asked how the candidates would "calm their fears that the Republican Party doesn't care about climate change."
All in all, Haley was the only candidate on stage Wednesday to answer the question directly.

Yep, with Boehm and Lancaster chiming in, Nikki Haley is definitely Charles Koch's chosen candidate.
I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... http://www.Payathome7.com
She had a few good answers. This wasn't one of them
Of course climate change is real. A mere sixteen thousand years ago Canada was under a mile of ice and sea levels around the planet were 300 feet lower. Seven thousand years ago the Sahara was green grasslands and dozens of society's lived there. 150 years ago the earth was in the grip of the "Little Ice Age" and temperatures were unusually cold. Climate changes constantly, back and forth.
But the current anthropogenic Climate Change™ narrative is absolute horseshit, and an easily provable lie, and if Nikki! wasn't such a weasel she would have pointed that out.
Further, humans enjoy higher prosperity during warm periods; why is the current state preferable?
The GOP presidential candidate also definitively said climate change is real.
Imagine caring what a worthless venal inane politician has to say about this or any other scientific subject.
Yeah! Nikki Haley is a real expert in these matters, I'm glad she finally weighed in! haha.
Besides, no one is denying climate change is real. The problem is that the Greenies pretend it is harmful, that man has caused it, and that it can be reversed by destroying the economy and turning to dictatorship.
The problem is that the Greenies pretend it is
harmfulthe end of the world as we know it (TEOTWAWKI)Minor quibble, I know, but they're no longer just saying that it's harmful, but that is literally a world ending threat if we don't "DO SOMETHING" ASAP. That "something" being destroy our economy, turn to dictatorship (preferably communist but let's be real, these fuckwits are fine with fascism as long as comes with a friendly seeming veneer).
Yes, and man didn't cause it just by burning fossil fuels, but by his mere presence on Earth. Of course everyone else has to die, not them.
The planet doesn’t give a shit if humans die out. World ending is bullshit rhetoric. Some other species will eventually take over. And don’t try to sell me any of that Venus horseshit being bandied about.
Once they've renounced God, lots of people cast about for some purpose to give their life meaning. Saving the Earth from the existential threat of slightly nicer weather is what some latch onto.
It's a nonsense question because it's too vague to be answered in any meaningful way.
Is "human behavior [] causing climate change"? If you include micro-climate effects, then the answer is obviously yes. Nobody disputes the existence of the Urban Heat Island effect. Nobody disputes the fact that cutting down a forest and replacing it with tilled earth changes the terrain's reaction to sun, wind and precipitation. When asked at that level (which was the original survey leading to the "97% of scientists" claim), of course human behavior affects the climate to some degree different from zero.
It's also a trivial - and thus useless - question to ask whether the climate is changing. Of course it it. It always has been. The trend recently is a long-term and still continuing emergence from the Little Ice Age. Increasing temperatures would be expected even in a world without humans.
The more difficult - and relevant - question is whether fossil fuel use alone is the causative agent of large-magnitude climate change. Despite all the hysterical pronouncements and media coverage, the scientific data are still insufficient to answer that question in the affirmative.
Well said.
Considering the current levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, I’m more worried about trying to take out more and what that will mean for things that use it as food. You know like plants and vegetables.
Crickets are carbon efficient. So are lichens and moss and algae.
The most relevant question is "what difference, at this point, does it make?" Even if humanity accidentally caused a small amount of global warming, is it worth the cost to the economy (and the humanity that the economy supports) in a vain attempt to undo it?
Anyone who has that big of a delusional imagination doesn't deserve a vote. She'd make Biden very proud to use the strongest military force to enact "moral authority" on China.
Climate enthusiasts are a religious cult. They can't prove anything. Nothing has been revealed except how FALSE it is after 50 F en Years!!! There's a difference between skeptical and down right living in a fantasy land of delusions. The scheme/hoax that just never stops giving government nazi-power.
Good grief the psychopaths cannot even figure out if cooling or warming is the curse so of course it’s so long as the weather changes it’s a horror story. My gosh. How dumb do those psychopaths think everyone needs to be?
It was LITERALLY the hottest day ever on Earth last month, and a few times in the past couple of years. Or at least the past 100 years since we could measure accurately. Even if the records we broke were all from the 1970s or 1930s or 1890s. We had SUVs back then too. And so maybe the cities are bigger now and have more concrete and become heat islands, but you couldn't have heat islands without heat, could you?
So one place on earth set a hottest day ever record last month? As-if that doesn’t happen all the time. Something about places in Texas having record setting freezing temperatures so cold their wind/solar couldn’t keep citizens from freezing.
People believe just because they want to believe not because of any ?science?. It’s just cherry-picking the needle in the haystack to support an indoctrinated religion. Churches do the same crap however churches aren't granted gov-gun forces in their religious pursuits.
So a non-answer from all the participants. Anthropogenic climate change is different from climate change and I am not encouraged that even Haley seems confused by the distinction. Is climate change real? Yes, the climate IS changing! Are humans burning fossil fuels for energy the cause of climate change? No, there is no evidence of any significant impact recently on the well-documented pattern established over the last four glaciation cycles. Are draconian government interventions to reduce cee-oh-two emissions justified by a looming anthropogenic climate disaster? Not just "no" but "HELL NO!"
And, by the way, please stop calling these group press conferences and bickering matches "debates!"
There is also the effect of the most tilt by the earth towards the sun helping to cause higher summer temperature.
And the normal 11 year solar cycles, and 44 year super cycles. Note that all the temperature records we break are from the 1970s, or the 1930s, or the 1890s.
This
climate change is a serious threat now that koch industries is planning to invest a couple billion dollars in a battery plant in georgia
Trumpican Party shit show. Glad I didn't waste two hours of my life I'll never get back watching this train wreck!
Yet you still “wasted” your time reading the article and commenting here.
And then wasted our time in a completely content-free rant based on, by your own admission, willful ignorance.
He didn't waste 2 hours of his time watching the debate, but he did waste 3 hours typing up his comment.
I think the so called green technologies are awesome and amazing. It is government money trying to pick winners and distorting markets that turn everything to shit. They have the intellectual capacity of toddlers and even if they didn't - centralized decision making will always fail. Individual freedom and distributed knowledge is the only system that can and ever will work.
Socialized food production = starvation
Public health = sickness
Green energy mandates = freeze to death on the dark
Every system - every time
Ditto!
In the future, wind and solar will be great. But subsidizing them just pushes them out before they are ready.
In the mean time we have carbon free nuclear power that no one on the left is even considering. If I were on the GOP debate stage (pounds podium) I would forcefully announce my plan to expand carbon free nuclear power, end the ban on nuclear power research, and get secure nuclear waste sites open and available. For the planet! (Pounds podium).
pushing wind and solar out now in their current form will be an environmental catastrophe
For my neck of the woods; It’s hydro-electric. But we don’t get enough news out here for the rest of the world to notice the ‘environmentalists’ are trying to knock all those down too.
I guess it's just too hard to build their Nazi-Empire when energy is found by those 'icky' people so abundantly. Right in-line with it being too hard to compete with oil energy so the 'guns' have to take that away from the people too (banning).
At least hydro is fairly consistent – except during severe drought years I suppose.
It actually generates quite a bit.
The 'green' subsidies are bad enough, but what about all the outright banning of products, the changes in automobile mileage requirements that will force everyone into EV's or hybrids, the drilling moratorium, cancelled pipelines, etc?
How about the democrats who want to ban meat, dairy & personal vehicles, and limit individuals to purchasing 3 new articles of clothing per year? (Cite: https://thefederalist.com/2023/08/19/these-14-american-cities-have-a-target-of-banning-meat-dairy-and-private-vehicles-by-2030/)
But don’t you dare call it control by the elites…
That there are still Republicans denying that climate change is happening, is proof of how out of touch that party is that the candidates feel the need to hide their heads in the sand.
We can certain discuss and argue about the best ways to combat climate change, and even what the impact of it might be (perhaps not a dire existential threat), but to claim that it's all a hoax and doesn't exist is peak delusional at this point in time.
As a libertarians I DON'T want big government spending as a proxy for feel good about doing something, heck, there are fully private solutions available to peruse at places like CATO. But that doesn't mean I just pretend that it doesn't exist.
And yes, I blame the Democrats for making this a partisan political issue. That's not an excuse for Republicans to knee-jerk pretend that it's not happening.
Can you cite some examples? Climate has always changed.
The hoax isn't that the climate changes. The hoax is that gov-gods with guns can control the weather and that mankind is the root cause of a concern there.
And boy was it the hoax of the century; how dumb does a person have to believe that a BB size of gasoline burnt is going to even compare to a 300-acre forest fire??? I mean talk about stupidity.
Then again the fastest cooling recorded was during WWII when more un-filtered gas was burned than any other time in history before. So it was the Global Cooling Scare then the Global Warming Scare then the um, well, just changing! WTF?? Who would possibly bank on such dumb BS?
As soon as government money gets involved it stops being science and becomes political science. Researchers publish results based on what the funders want to hear. Separating the truth from "the truth tm" becomes incredibly difficult. Stop asking me to trust the science. Either prove it or show me incredibly convincing evidence. Then you need to further prove that the interventions will actually improve the outcomes.
Back in those old days when 'science' was still defined as a discovery of reality instead of the discovery of religion? 🙂
but to claim that it’s all a hoax and doesn’t exist is peak delusional at this point in time.
They said this about Covid policies. Turns out, most of it was fabricated to control the populus.
Same applies to Climate Change™.
Yup, Brandy's little act became tired and worn out in 2020. They overplayed The Science!(tm) and now their wringing of hands about "deniers" is seen for what it is: an attempt to score rhetorical points without having to actually put forward an argument.
The Climate Agenda is false. It is based on false assumptions, misleading interpretations of real data, and emotional appeals to crisis. And this whole "DENIER!" schtick is just more of that same base-stealing that activists have been engaged in for better part of a decade.
The fact is that predictions of global catastrophe have been wrong for decades. Predictions of the global increase in temperature made the past decades have all been falsified. And the same people who peddled those falsified predictions as dire warnings to "ACT NOW!" are the same people calling you a denier if you aren't signing up for their massive reordering of our society.
Of course, Brandy was one of the clowns in the comments during 2020 trying to shame deniers for declining to believe The Science!(tm) around masks and other COVID panic. So this should not be a surprise.
Science Deniers are people who don't believe in Chromosomes.
An example of being half-right (correct) when you’re totally wrong.
Climate has always been the 30-year average temperature and precipitation in a well-defined geographic region. So, there is no “Global Climate”, except as metaphorical bombast.
As others noted, Global Warming IS a real thing and has been for the past 20,000 years, which was the coldest trough of the last Ice Age. Within a few decades, we’ll hit a Warming Age peak and global cooling will be the norm ... no matter what humans do.
Haley was great except for the part where she would support a convicted felon for President.
It highlighted her opportunism and sullied her pragmatic approach to abortion.
I’d as soon Haley as any of the other Republican candidates, and she can’t be accused of being an old white man.
Skin color is the most important thing
>>But former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said yes
and rendered herself obsolete.
Climate change is a critical global challenge that demands immediate action. As part of a dedicated climate community, I’m committed to driving positive change through awareness, advocacy, and sustainable practices. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our planet’s future. ???????? #ClimateAction

How about you fuck off. You just want to destroy the prosperity of the American people.
Don't respond to the spambots. (Though I have to admit that this one was a lot better than most.)
Of course Reason would back the UN candidate.
Lots of good comments here, so I'll limit myself to two comments:
1. "Haley was ... the only candidate to directly answer..."
Umm: “I’m the only candidate on stage who isn’t bought and paid for, so I can say this — the climate change agenda is a hoax,” [Vivek] said."
2. Few will remember the Left's harangue against industrialization: the imminent "Peak Oil", which required that we give up on using it as an energy source. That rhetoric failed because of competitive innovation which made fossil fuels prolific. The only hope was to fabrication (by disinformation) the claim that human CO2 emission was responsible for all global warming ... absolute nonsense.
