Elon Musk Throttles Substack, Clashing With Twitter Files' Matt Taibbi
Plus: Dueling court decisions on an abortion drug, an update from Riley Gaines, and more...

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The professional relationship between billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, and independent journalist Matt Taibbi hit a serious and possibly irreparable snag late last week following Musk's quixotic decision to suppress links to Substack.
Substack is a newsletter company with a stated commitment to the principles of broad free expression; as such, it is a preferred platform for many independent journalists, such as Taibbi. Twitter and Substack share a major financial backer: The venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has invested $65 million in Substack and $400 million in Musk-era Twitter.
When he acquired Twitter last year, Musk vowed to correct what he viewed as heavy-handed moderation policies akin to censorship, saying that the social media site should function as a sort of town square. With an eye toward demystifying the site's approach to content moderation, Musk gave several journalists—including Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger, Bari Weiss, Lee Fang, and David Zweig—access to Twitter staff's internal emails. This led to a series of reports, the Twitter Files, that helped explain why Twitter's previous regime had decided to suppress various accounts believed to be part of a Russian influence campaign. Unbeknownst to much of the public, Twitter had faced constant pressure from the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other government agencies.
Taibbi recently clashed with MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan, who attempted to discredit much of the Twitter Files.
Why did @mtaibbi launch the Twitter Files by suggesting that Biden officials got Twitter to delete tweets… without disclosing that the tweets included non consensual nude images of the president's son Hunter?@mehdirhasan asked him:
Full interview: https://t.co/mheOL0TcSW pic.twitter.com/FEVO13cmju
— The Mehdi Hasan Show (@MehdiHasanShow) April 7, 2023
Hasan did identify some errors in Taibbi's reporting, which first appeared on Twitter itself and was ultimately published by Substack. But one notable complaint of Hasan's—that Taibbi had confused the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) with the Center for Internet Security (CIS)—is not nearly the gotcha that Hasan seems to think it is:
Mehdi you obviously haven't read the reporting here. CISA is the DHS agency that partnered with EIP. Here's an email of a CISA employee discussing an EIP-ticketed misinfo report to Twitter employees. Matt got it right. https://t.co/WnPyl89LHm pic.twitter.com/ZV1vMqL42b
— Lee Fang (@lhfang) April 7, 2023
Hasan also assailed Taibbi for seemingly refusing to criticize Musk. But a mere 24 hours later, Taibbi did precisely that.
Of all things: I learned earlier today that Substack links were being blocked on this platform.
When I asked why, I was told it's a dispute over the new Substack Notes platform…
— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) April 7, 2023
In response, Musk claimed that Twitter was not throttling Substack per se; rather, "Substack was trying to download a massive portion of the Twitter database to bootstrap their Twitter clone, so their IP address is obviously untrusted." The "clone" in question is Substack Notes, a new feature that is said to mimic Twitter in several ways. Musk also called Taibbi an "employee" of Substack—which is false—and unfollowed his former ally.
These are frustrating developments. Musk's stated plan to make Twitter a more hospitable place for free expression was admirable, as was his decision to provide some transparency about the platform's inner workings. Despite all the dismissive assertions from mainstream media pundits—many of whom assiduously bought into the oversold Russian influence narrative—the Twitter Files were in fact a somethingburger: They revealed a high level of coordination between major tech companies, government agencies, and political figures. It is thanks to Musk and Taibbi that this is now apparent.
Musk's treatment of Substack is a self-sabotaging betrayal of his principles—one that Taibbi has rightly declined to ignore. It is not enough to simply articulate anti-censorship commitments: If you're the sole figure in charge, you really have to live by them.
FREE MINDS
Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who argues that it is unfair for transgender women to compete against cisgender women, said last week that she faced violence when speaking at San Francisco State University (SFSU).
"It was terrifying," she elaborated to Fox News. "The police did not inform me of any sort of action plan. Turning Point USA invited me to the campus. I delivered a very civil and respectful speech where I had great dialog with even protesters who were participating in a sit-in. All of a sudden, after my speech, the room was stormed, the lights were turned off, and I was rushed with no one there to escort me to a safe place."
The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) called on SFSU to protect free speech rights on the campus. FIRE notes that the public university recently subjected a professor to an investigation for showing a picture of Muhammed in class—an action that is obviously protected by the First Amendment.
Dear @SFSU,
Stop investigating the professor who showed a picture of Muhammed in class and investigate the students who accosted @Riley_Gaines_ at a @TPUSA event instead.
TAKE ACTION: Demand that SFSU investigate the shoutdown, not the professor ➡️ https://t.co/gskvbM02Cu pic.twitter.com/NiuVkqNgmG

Two courts have issued conflicting rulings on an abortion-related issue: access to the drug mifepristone. A Texas judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, has invalidated the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the pill, which occurred in the year 2000. According to The New York Times:
Mifepristone is the first pill in the two-drug medication abortion regimen that is used in over half of pregnancy terminations in the United States. It blocks a hormone that allows a pregnancy to develop. For now, it is still available.
Judge Kacsmaryk immediately stayed his ruling for seven days to give the Department of Justice…a chance to appeal it to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Justice Department has already filed notice of its appeal.
If the appeals court upholds the judge's order or declines to put it on pause until the full case is heard, the Justice Department will most likely appeal that decision to the Supreme Court, which could quickly decide whether or not to suspend the injunction. The Supreme Court would also take into account the contradictory ruling by the federal judge in the Washington district court case, legal experts said.
The second ruling, by Judge Thomas Rice in Washington, prohibits the Food and Drug Administration from restricting the supply of mifepristone.
The Volokh Conspiracy's Jonathan Adler argues that both rulings were legally wrong. He expects "quick action from appellate courts, if not the Supreme Court itself."

"Musk's treatment of Substack is a self-sabotaging betrayal of his principles"
I don't see how this can be supported by the facts Soave presented.
Yes, Substack and Musk are having an IP fight right now. That has nothing to do with "free expression" unless somehow Soave is trying to make the argument that free expression requires that Twitter allow Substack to copy Twitter's complete archives- and not just allow it, but facilitate those mass copies with unlimited bandwidth.
Everyone who publishes on Substack can still use Twitter. Even Substack is able to tweet. Suggesting this is a free expression issue is like saying that Amazon is blocking free expression because they won't deliver 1 million books a day to your house at no additional cost.
Absent some more clear information, Soave's position makes zero sense.
I read it that way too.
And I publicly tweeted support for linking to substance articles in defense of that practice - while being ignorant of the fact that there was an additional dispute about massive downloading of content.
Still, it seems like the 2 companies could come to an agreement - promoting their wares on Twitter for next to nothing is worth a lot to the content creators on Substack.
Soave, as usual, left a lot out.
Here’s an explanation.

The guiding principle here is Boaf Sidez

As near as I can tell, though, it isn't a boaf sidez argument. It is more of the, "Hah! What do you think NOW, Musk. Isn't as easy as you think, is it?" It's the type of gloating that says they never actually wanted him to succeed, and that they will report every snag he encounters as evidence of his complete incompetence and fulfillment of his pre-destined failure.
So what if he created and runs several multibillion dollar cutting edge companies , he’s a failure!

Starship, the nationwide fast charger network being built and Starlink are each as game changing as the internet. Neuralink even more so if it comes into being as advertised.
I don't think I would want something like Neuralink in my brain; it seems very invasive. I don't think other people would want it either.
But StarLink does seem great. It will provide internet access in remote places where regular cable wouldn't be cost-effective.

Taibbi recently clashed with MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan, who attempted to discredit much of the Twitter Files.
The left is telling me he succeeded. Everyone else is telling me otherwise. I can't be bothered to look too much into it because the unholy alliance between Twitter and alphabet agencies that's already been proven is bad enough.
Taibbi lost that debate with Hasan. And I say this as someone who can’t stand Hasan. But Hasan was researched and ready for gotcha moments and Taibbi was not prepared to handle them. Hasan called out one minimal error, one moderate error, and one potentially huge error. Now, Taibbi admitted to the first two errors, but has not admitted the potential big error. Instead, he has explained that he will address that point after he gets back from vacation. We'll see what happens.
Hasan kept denying MSNBC has no standing regarding truthfulness by simply deflecting he wasn't there.
Yeah, but the discussion was about Taibbi's reporting on the Twitter files. Just because MSNBC has a problem with facts and truth doesn't negate Taibbi's failings in that regard as well.
Simple mistakes are made often, especially with the amount of data they were being provided. Hassan focusing on 3 things out of hundreds seemed to be a means to discredit everything based on a small percentage.
Hassan was using that to distract from the entire findings of TwitterFiles. I don't think he came across well at all.
Yes, it was gotcha journalism by Hasan. That's the corporate media's SOP. And Taibbi should have been ready for that, he wasn't. That's on Taibbi.
And the error of claiming 22 million flagged tweets versus the actual of a couple thousand was a big error.
In the end, the meaningfulness of the Twitter files remains, but Taibbi did a terrible job defending it against a pit-bull corporate media shill.
Yeah, that was the one thing John Boyd emphasized when you're conducting informational warfare--you better make sure to follow all rules to the letter, and go over every bit of detail with a fine-tooth comb, because ANY mistake on your part, no matter how minor, will be used by the establishment to discredit your entire work. The one lesson that Taibbi needs to take from this is that he was only allowed to be a guerrilla journalist when he was attacking the right. Now that he's attacking the left, he can't afford to take the same Hunter S. Thompson-style approach.
That is a lesson I think Taibbi is just starting to learn, but it hasn't sunk in yet.
LOL
Can't provide a substantive response?
Just don't care enough about what a midwitted faggot like you has to say.
I always forget how adult you are.
"Hasan called out one minimal error, one moderate error, and one potentially huge error."
Not a challenge question, but what were they? Particularly the potentially huge error. Everything I've seen in the files seemed pretty back and white to me.
The minimal error was a failure to describe the substance of links requested to be removed (i.e. they really were Hunter Biden dick pics).
The moderate error was thinking there was a misspelling of a group's acronym. Meaning, Taibbi thought they left out a letter from a group's acronym that would have made the requests come from a government source, when in actuality, they didn't leave off a letter, there was a private organization with an acronym one letter off of the government agency, and Taibbi confused them as being the same entity.
The big error was claiming that the Election Integrity Partnership flagged 22 million tweets to be removed, when it was actually under 3,000.
"The big error was claiming that the Election Integrity Partnership flagged 22 million tweets to be removed, when it was actually under 3,000."
That is a magnitude of difference, although 3000 is still pretty bad.
What do you think the chances are that Hasan is wrong here, and EIP really did flag millions?
It's just that I trust Taibbi far more than MSNBC, which has a history of flat out lying, so I'm naturally going to be skeptical of it's claims. Is there a (relatively) unbiased explanation or breakdown of the claims somewhere?
I don’t really know. Taibbi was caught really off guard by the question, so it was hard to gauge. And I say that because his being caught off guard could have been him not realizing a big error until that moment, or that the challenge was so off-base incorrect that it surprised him to have to defend (e.g. someone claiming the sun doesn’t come up in the east kind of thing). And I looked into it somewhat, and it seems Hasan is correct on the surface, but I didn’t spend that much time on it.
As such, I’m waiting for when Taibbi gets back from vacation to see how he responds. He’s a quality enough journalist that he won’t double down on being wrong. As such, he will either explain why Hasan was wrong, or admit the error.
Thanks.
I honestly don't see how any of the three errors undermine the overall findings of the Twitter Files. Journalists do make errors and print corrections and Matt seems to have admitted to at least one of them.
Hasan is missing the forest for the trees, and he's capitalizing on some errors to discredit both MT and the twitter files. And he's ultimately making this about Elon Musk. He's already blocked twitter users who corrected HIS mistakes.
He's a hack working for a notoriously partisan media outlet. If you read his excuse on the Hunter Biden you know he's playing defense for the other team.
Oh, Hasan is clearly missing the forest for the trees. And he's doing so on purpose in order to discredit the Twitter files. There's no doubt that is Hasan's motivation.
However, Taibbi should (and did) know this going in. As such, he should have been prepared for it, which he wasn't. Now, I do give a bit of a pass as Taibbi is much better expressing himself through the written word as opposed to the spoken word, but he still should have seen it coming.
Overall, Hasan didn't take down the relevance of the Twitter files, but what he did was gave everyone on the left something to hang their hat on to claim Taibbi is biased and untrustworthy on this matter.
And I do feel the 22 million to less than 3,000 is a big mistake if it ends up truly being a mistake.
without disclosing that the tweets included non consensual nude images of the president’s son Hunter?
GOP tongues still wagging...
It’s always been about hunters penis.
For Buttplug.
Pedos have to stick together, after all.

Rumor is that the GOP are looking into a bribery involving Hunter and his dad instead of "Penis", which a terrified Buttplug is trying to shift attention to instead.
"Substack was trying to download a massive portion of the Twitter database to bootstrap their Twitter clone, so their IP address is obviously untrusted."
I've lost track. Is Twitter "the public square" these days or is that over in the Musk era?
Do you mean “Titter”?

"Titter" just means giggle.
Not to the sixth grade mind of Mike.
Yes, and a “tit” is a type of bird. As is a "booby".

Are you next going to edumacate us on the proper usage of "Ass" and "Pussy", Mike?
I bet good money Mr. HO2 doesn't know that.
Musk's treatment of Substack is a self-sabotaging betrayal of his principles—one that Taibbi has rightly declined to ignore.
At some point as a libertarian one must square the fact that Twitter is a business investment. I like the idea of Twitter as a wild west free for all, but realistically I don't want Musk's version of it to go tits up just yet.
Why would you not “throttle” links to someone who’s is trying to steal info from you and start a similar site as yours?
They absolutely would do that. Unfortunately, Musk was being less than truthful with that claim. Link near the top of the comments explains how.
Gosh, maybe some of the “censorship” decisions that pre-Musk Twitter made were also motivated by financial concerns.
Cite?
The million dollars the Alphabet Agencies gave Twitter to cover expenses incurred by their censorship requests.
For Mike that's a legitimate business transaction.
And Mike continues to support government directed censorship.
100% effective with no side effects!
You fucking idiot.
But that would suppose Twitter was being run for financial success, which the evidence is very lacking in that regard.
Yep, it's only made money 2 out of the last 12 years. It's primary purpose since about 2008 has been to be a bullhorn for the left-liberal elites, even if that wasn't necessarily their original function.
Dig into their history, and I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of their early development was funded by In-Q-Tel's derivatives or glowie front groups like Accel.
Probably a mix of pragmatism and ideology. My ire with what was confirmed in the Twitter Files was mostly directed at the government, whom I don't pay to violate constitutional rights except maybe those of Juggalos.
Of course Fist likes Twitter. Dude is the master of concise pithiness. A tweet is practically a novel in his hands.
My tweets are terrible though. I guess probably because I save the sauce for here, where my people are.
Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who argues that it is unfair for transgender women to compete against cisgender women, said last week that she faced violence when speaking at San Francisco State University (SFSU).
Her attempted trans genocide is violence!
transgender women
Also known as men.
These days all the best representations of women are men, or so we are told by our leading corporate marketers.
Yeah, the Newspeak is contagious with the leftists. I also find it hilarious that if you don't engage in Newspeak, you not being inclusive
So, why don’t conservatives simply argue calmly and rationally, in an adult manner, against the ideas?
Like they should take Dylan mulvaney hostage and demand money for him to be released?
Caw Caw
We do it all the time, i.e. '..What do you do with a transgender who has three balls?...Walk him to get to the pitcher...'

How about you provide a real counterargument instead? We don’t need to be “calm” or “rational”, our correct statements will suffice. And so far you’ve been unable to show any rebuttal that suggests otherwise.
Calling the trans side "adults" is going a bit far. You can't argue rationally with the irrational.
They have for years retard.
But you will never admit the left as a bad actor. Attacking Gaines is rational discussion to you after all. Youre upset that she is fighting back. Not that she was attacked.
And just when I thought you hit peak disingenuous. You set the bar another notch higher.
It's telling that you would see a call for acting like mature adults in the political world as disingenuous.
Odd you never ask for the left to act like mature adults. Instead you attack those pushing back as acting immature. Why?
There is no adult conversation here. There is post modernism anti intellectualism wrapped in a veneer of religion. There is no rational discourse with these people. None. People tried to talk to them rationally for years and were canceled, attacked, mobbed, threatened, etc.
You never call out that behavior at all, just the people resisting against those attacks.
That is how you are disingenuous.
see the panel with ben shapiro and a hulking huge tranny…
Ben was arguing calmly and rationally and got threatened for his efforts
"It’s telling that you would see a call for acting like mature adults in the political world as disingenuous."
But that's not what you were doing, you're covering for trans radicals who kidnapped and beat a woman, by pretending that those condemning the act are immature reactionaries.
Somedays you're so fucking disgusting and evil it's breathtaking, Mike.
Somedays you’re so fucking disgusting and evil it’s breathtaking, Mike.
+1
LOL, I’m evil for suggesting people act like mature adults. Says a lot about Mother’s Lamebt.
There's nothing immature about rightful retaliation. You still haven't answered JesseAz as to why you aren't condemning the left for much worse offenses.
No, you're evil for covering for assault and kidnapping and pretending the victim was the real villain.
Even now you're lying about what was just said. You're a garbage human being, Mike.
To answer JesseAz, I would have to have him unmuted, which ain’t gonna happen.
But, anyway, the left should act maturely, too.
Retaliation politics is an absolutely childish, piss-poor way of government a nation.
Mike is scared of rational adult conversation as seen by his response.
Defending oneself is not retaliation politics. But then again you think Kyle Rittenhouse should have been convicted for defending himself.
Your only interest seems to be allowing the left to commit any violence they desire.
That’s not why he said you’re evil. But then, you know that.
Some?
That is what is called a "conversation," which only happens between human beings. If you disagree politically then you cease to be human, so there's no point.
Okay sarcasmic, explain how the trannies that assaulted and kidnapped her were engaged in rational "conversation", but not Riley, because that's the narrative White Mike is trying to craft.
I swear, you're so kneejerk tribalistic you have no idea what you're white knighting about.
So, why don’t conservatives simply argue calmly and rationally, in an adult manner, against the ideas?
You mean like Gaines was doing, before she was falsely imprisoned? You’re not exactly making your case here; quite the opposite, in fact. You’re basically proving that there’s no point in having a “calm and rational” discussion, because the left won’t give a shit and will commit political violence against you, anyway.
The only “persuasion” that’s going to work at this point is a closed, swinging fist that punches the left back twice as hard, just like their hero Barry Obizzle argued.
On that note

Mostly because they get shouted down or investigated when they try.
Riley Gaines did “argue calmly and rationally”. Lotta good it did her.
Idiot.
Remember when Milo Yiannopoulos would got to college campuses?
There goes Soave following the latest edition of the Newspeak Dictionary using “cisgender women” or in normal English, “not male”, that is, “female”.
Wow, you guys are really fine tuned to look for any possible offense.
I was just in a conversation with Diane/Paul where she/he used “cis” terminology and nobody objected. It is actually useful terminology, and I assume that’s why Diane/Paul utilized it even though she/he is a conservative.
That’s what you get for assuming.
Mike has entered victim mode.
Because it is obfuscating language designed to minimize the distinction being discussed.
It's just simply a pushback on pseudo-intellectualism and false speech. Why do you get offended at people wanting to maintain reality and wanting to make sure that language still has meaning?
Cis is certainly useful when discussing isomer chemistry. Or when used as mathematical shorthand (cis(x) is cos(x) + i sin(x)).
Wow! Now it's getting real esoteric up in hurr!
🙂
So, you can only have adult conversations if we use the terminology you want us to use. Perhaps we do not approve of the terminology at all.
"terminology you want us to use"
Where is that coming from? When did I say that?
It is Mickey Rat, above, who was trying to control what language people use.
Poor sea lion.
"I was just in a conversation with Diane/Paul where she/he used “cis” terminology and nobody objected. It is actually useful terminology, and I assume that’s why Diane/Paul utilized it even though she/he is a conservative."
You did write this, no?
I feel no need to humor the insulting "cis" bullshit. Any more than I feel a need to humor racial slurs.
Huh?
How was my using “cis” insulting? I was referring to Diane/Paul’s literally using the prefix, “cis”, in a comment she/he wrote.
Are you this stiffnecked? Calling out BS is nothing indicative of looking to get offended.
Note what Mike did here. He criticized someone for objecting to a change in our language. According to Mike, it is a minor offense that is only detectable by people "fine tuned" to find any "possible offense."
Why does Mike care? If it is a possible offense, why shouldn't it be allowed to be discussed, whether it is minor or major? Is Mike the arbiter of which offense is major enough to be discussed in these comments?
This is Mike's favorite past time. Picking on the tiniest detail to try and derail a thread.
The fact is that militant assholes threatened and assaulted a woman, and Mike is 100% uninterested in talking about that. All he wants to do is distract this thread by arguing about whether Micky's objection to language creep is important enough to be in this thread.
And that's why he does this nonsense. It is very uncomfortable to see people around the country criticizing people from his tribe, and that includes the transgender thugs this story is about. So instead he wants to sow chaos- even trying to pit people against each other- "Diane uses that language, shouldn't you, too?"
Don't let him play these games. The fact is that this was a horrible event, and everyone should be talking about that, not Mike's diversions.
This is Mike’s favorite past time. Picking on the tiniest detail to try and derail a thread.
I'm not sure how he ended up in tech, because he throws out enough red herrings to be a Seattle fishmonger.
Who knows.
Remember that other guy (echospinner?) who went on and on during covid about his medical expertise since he "works in a hospital" then let it slip in a disconnected thread that he's a janitor...
"a former college swimmer who argues that it is unfair for transgender women to compete against cisgender women, "
She's actually arguing that it's unfair to have biological males compete against biological females in what is supposed to be reserved as a biological female-only competition. Or, you know, make then share the same dressing room.
Do not use made-up woke intersectional progressive terms.
Instead, try standard language. For instance, in this case we could have substituted words like 'real' 'actual' 'biological' or 'normal' that pretty much mean the same thing to everybody.
Hell, given that he is reported to walk around with erections, there is ample evidence that Thomas is not transgender but, instead, engaging in a fetish.
I don't think he realized that the whole "if I was a woman, I'd play with my boobs all day" and "I'm a lesbian in a man's body" were supposed to be jokes, not lifestyle choices.
"What most people don’t understand - what I didn’t understand until it was explained to me - is that most of the “trans” stuff among men today is not gender dysphoria, or even rapid onset gender dysphoria, or even autogynephelia. It’s a humiliation fetish popularized through porn."

Or a desire to get easy wins.
Both, really. A lot of MtFs are massive coomers who never did anything except jerk off to porn on the internet all day. Then they cut off their dick and can't coom anymore, which adds to the mental illness.
Let's be honest; most of them don't have the balls to have their balls removed...ironic.
The police did not inform me of any sort of action plan.
Welcome to San Fransisco.
Be sure to wear a flack helmet over your hair
And avoid the poop on the sidewalk. Harvey Milk must be spinning in his grave.
Nah, he's looking up with a smile.
Milk originally campaigned on cleaning the dog poop off the sidewalks in San Francisco.
It's not dog poop on the sidewalks, is it?
Mission accomplished Mr. Milk.
A Texas judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, has invalidated the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the pill, which occurred in the year 2000.
...
The second ruling, by Judge Thomas Rice in Washington, prohibits the Food and Drug Administration from restricting the supply of mifepristone.
Can we get a court somewhere in the middle of these two to maybe look into the de facto mandate of a certain new substance the past few years?
It’s 100% safe and effective with no downsides!
If the vaccine didn't kill you, you have no standing; if the vaccine killed you, the case is moot.
Catch-22.
That's some catch.
The best one there is.
For a good analysis of standing you should read the substack article on Kacsmaryk's decision referred to on the Volokh page: https://adamunikowsky.substack.com/p/mifepristone-and-the-rule-of-law-9c4
“if the vaccine killed you”
So, we are talking about three people, and they died from a traditional vaccine rather than the mRNA vaccines that anti-vaxxers complain about:

Ignore all the side effects as well.
From 2 years ago. And all it says is "trust us, we checked is out and those other 6000 deaths were definitely something else".
Do you think Mike actually believes that? Sometimes I can't tell whether he's just ignorant or being disingenuous.
At this point, I'd wager on disingenuous.
"Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who argues that it is unfair for transgender women to compete against cisgender women"
What would she know? The same amount Martina Navratilova knows: NOTHING!
These uppity broads should sit down, shut up, and listen to Scott Shackford. He'll explain that their concerns are wholly without merit.
#SometimesMansplainingIsOK
In the future, all women will have a penis.
I really hope not. I like the old fashioned kind, with vaginas.
Just using a term like "transgender woman" should be endlessly ridiculed, specifically by competitive women.
Mansplaining or Transplaining?
Dudes pretending to be women rank higher on the victimhood pyramid than women.
You're my new hero for giving me that term.
Caitlyn Jenner was lampooning the idea of trans women competing as women just last week. She said that even as she was transitioning and well past retirement age, she could still out-drive most women on the PGA tour.
I really wonder why they chose this hill to die on, when pretty much 100% of everything they really wanted was already there. Maybe the only real point of contention was over public restroom accommodations, and even then it was edge cases and mandates that were the contention.
It makes me suspect that the actual point is to get someone to come out on the Anti side so they can be vilified as a transpose Nazi and used as a political wedge to demonize the opposition.
It's progressivism for the sake of progressivism. Two big issues are at play. The first is the fact that in this country, there is a huge ethos of civil rights and fighting for the oppressed and downtrodden. Second is that people love to righteously lecture, bully, and lord over others.
Put those two together, especially at a time when there really aren't any meaningful civil rights issues left, and you get the modern trans movement. Highly removed from reality, not based on any real intellectual principles, and hyper-divisive by its very design.
Not to mention that many of the most zealous trans activists already have serious mental problems.
"I really wonder why they chose this hill to die on, when pretty much 100% of everything they really wanted was already there."
If you can make people believe absurdities, you can make them commit atrocities.
Power don't come from a badge or a gun. Power comes from lying. Lying big, and gettin' the whole damn world to play along with you. Once you got everybody agreeing with what they know in their hearts ain't true, you've got 'em by the balls.
Further, it's the most extreme embodiment of the fundamental progressive proposition: that Man is a blank slate, completely molded by society.
Trannies are the saints of transhumanism.
Hey, Narz! It looks like your buddy Putin has an ally in the African National Congress regime in South Africa:

By the bye, you have Transhumanism all wrong. Transgenderism is not a requirement to.be Transhuman, though the medical technology involved is one aspect of Transhumanism, and Transhumanism involves nothing non-consensual.
In fact, any Doctor worth his sheepskin and any technologist that uses anything more advanced than a stick is practicing Transhumanism by using Reason and Science to move beyond previous physical and biological limits.
Have fun inheriting the Earth, meek one! The wise want to move on!
You have difficulty understanding context. The proxy war in Ukraine hasn't done us any favors.
Putin not getting his New Eurasian Empire is only good for all freedom-loving people, even if we should only be doing voluntary charity and cash-and-carry with Ukraine.
And it is kind of telling that all the Really Rotten Asshole regimes on the Planet are now having a Harmonic Convergence. They need moral and logistical back-up from each other to try and give "social proof" for the legitimacy of their atrocities.
You're delusional to think Putin's motive is a "New Eurasian Empire". He claimed he wanted to protect the ethnic Russians there who want to secede and then join Russia. That isn't a justification for invading Ukraine, but the media narrative got several key points wrong with their coverage.
As for the proxy war itself, which the U.S. is spending billions of dollars on, you're also delusional for thinking it's making us safer. That's the same excuse Bush used to justify the Iraq War. All it is really doing is just prolonging the proxy war (and Ukraine's suffering) and risk us to bigger conflict. With the way things are going now, this looks like another long-term war like Afghanistan and Vietnam.
I think the point is simple. The LBGQ lobby was caught by surprise when the SC ruled in favor of gay marriage. To keep the non-profit cash donations rolling in to pay their salaries, they panicked and pivoted to the trans bathroom issue. Declaring victory, going home and enjoying life was apparently not an option.
Is declaring victory and going home ever really an option for the professional activists clan? There’s less than 5000 members of the Klan in the US and neo-Nazism is almost as dead, but you wouldn’t know that watching the news. Our air and water are some of the cleanest in recorded history, again, you wouldn’t know that watching the news or listening to the activists. Biodiversity has actually increased across all Continents, but again you wouldn’t know that from the professional doomsayers. 51% of the counties in 2020 in the US had zero murders, while most of those counties also have the highest gun ownership rates. Two percent of counties in the US account for over 50% of homicides and have the smallest gun ownership rates. The top 1% of earners pay 43% of the income taxes. 1% of the country grows enough food to feed all of us with copious surplus to ship overseas, on significantly less land than even ten years ago, while using far less fertilizer and pesticides. Raising cattle in the US actually is carbon neutral or even slightly negative, because rangelands are massive carbon sinks. Additionally, the number of head of cattle is > 50% less than at its peak in 1947, while we produce more domestic beef than we did in 1947, and producing a pound of beef today uses far less land, water and feed than it did in 1970. Very similar numbers apply to pork and poultry. The vast majority of the reason that fires are hotter, faster and more devastating is not climate change but overcrowding in the forests. The spotted owl nests in both old growth and new growth forests with equal success. The recent decline in grouse and other upland gamebirds is largely due to the elimination of edge habitat that was created by road building and logging. The biggest threat to sage grouse is telephone and electric poles (ravens and raptors use the poles to locate grouse nests which they raid killing the eggs and chicks) not grazing. The number of grizzlies in the Northern Rockies is at an all time high, and by any scientific measurement, continuing listing these populations as endangered is not supported (the same for the gray wolf, and both species are repopulating the northern prairies without forced relocations). The buffalo herd in Yellowstone is actually 300% above carrying capacity. Bull trout are not endangered in Idaho or western Montana but are listed because they listed the entire Columbia River Basin. When taken as a percentage of those who commit violent crimes, blacks are actually far less likely to be killed by cops than whites. The sexual paygap is a myth. Puberty is necessary for proper brain, muscle, skeletal and cardiac maturity. Even delaying it can have real serious irreversible impacts on all three of these systems and no you can’t just switch it on and off at will without long term health impacts (this has been known for decades, which is one of the big reasons Sweden, Norway and Great Britain are cracking down on transitioning youths). According to Norway’s health ministries, when they reviewed the actual literature and research there is very little supportive data for transitioning youths, additionally, the UK health ministries have stated the evidence supports even social (e.g. no drugs or surgeries) has long term detrimental mental health impacts.
Well, you get the picture. Activists need to be fighting against something even if they’re completely wrong about what they’re fighting for, or what they’re fighting for is actually no longer valid. It’s like the Irish in the 1920s, finally got the British out, and what did they do? Start fighting each other.
Agreed. Progressivism is like water damage - it has to be removed or it finds other ways to cause problems. Unfortunately, their political opponents think they can simply paint over it and it will go away.
Former Attorney General William Barr has described former President Donald Trump as "the weakest of the Republican candidates..."
You're going to have to also decry DeSantos if you want redemption.
Well, he does have small hands.
So what was Trump’s Easter Sunday message to the nation?
“WORLD WAR III”
The dude may not be the weakest candidate, but he is completely unhinged. He’s a hair’s breadth away from becoming Jack Torrance.
Funny how you forget Biden telling all of us that putting tanks into Ukraine would be WW3. Now he's sending tanks to Ukraine.
Did Biden lie when he said it or are we now engaging in WW3?
Missing my point.
Is it normal, sane behavior for a Presidential candidate to post the words "WORLD WAR III" in all caps on social media?
The media did it 3 times under Trump dummy.
But the media weren’t running for President. - Mike
Do you think it’s not possible we are heading towards ww3?
It is normal when the candidate is actually trying to avoid WW3.
Wrong answer.
It would be normal to post a calm, rational argument as to why he thinks Biden’s foreign policy could lead to World War III.
It is unhinged to post short, emotional outbursts in all caps.
Maybe he thinks it’s important?
Cite?
I mean he already started 3 world wars per your supported narratives.
"Here's DONNY!"
"So what was Trump’s Easter Sunday message to the nation?"
Like you give a fuck about Easter. Quit concern trolling.
I put the "Ease" in Easter. No filth on my forehead and forty days of doing without. No Original Sin. No Expiation by Blood Sacrifice of a God-Man committing Deicide/Suicide, followed by three days of funk and a Zombie Resurection. No Collective Blame or Guilt followed by pogroms, expulsions and The Holocaust. No drag-assing up at the Crack of dawn on Sunday. And well-paid work all day! Gotta love it!
🙂
Pro-Tip: The days to buy Easter candy are the days after Easter.
😉
"No filth on my forehead and forty days of doing without. No Original Sin."
Yeah, a lot of Fundamentalists and anti-papists have been saying exactly that since Martin Luther. Are you sure you're atheist, Encog?
"No... Holocaust"
Umm, that was you guys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirchenkampf
No Fundamentalist Protestant Christian group that I've ever heard of has ever said no sacrifice and no Original Sin. I'm still a hardened Atheist and don't like unwanted drops on my head or dunkings either.
And no. See the 25-Point Program of the NSDAP to see where they stood on religion.
I suggest you read Hitler's Table Talk; that account has Hitler and other Nazi leaders make significant disparaging comments of Christianity. Hitler himself was not happy with its Semitic origins.
Which one?
Given that Hitler's Table Talk had multiple translations, with one dependent on the other, with missing remarks, lost sources, and what Albert Speer called "rambling nonsense," it's kinda hard to take this as Hitler Canon.
Hitler's Table Talk--Wikipedia
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler%27s_Table_Talk
Hitler also mentioned he opposed promoting Atheism, which was consistent with his actual deeds of shutting down German Atheist and Freethought societies.
Start again.
Linda Richman: "All this talk about Hitler has gotten me all verklempt!...Talk amongst yourselves!...Here's a topic: Hitler's Table Talk was neither a talk, nor Hitler's nor at a table. Discuss..."
And to that I say "bunkum", for the reasons mentioned below.
Read any translation you like. They're genuine and accurate, and any attempts to undermine Hitler's anti-Christian remarks have been shown to be fruitless. Nathan Johnstone has done a splendid job at refuting one such attempt.
The records show that Hitler disdained Christianity, and wanted and had long-term plans to replace it with some ultra-nationalist mixture of pantheism (which is not necessarily a belief in a god), neo-Germanic paganism, and occultism. There are records that show that while he did not attack the Christian churches in Germany to maintain favor among the people there, he had no such problem doing all sorts of persecutions at Poland. To paint Hitler as some kind of religious and devout Christian is inaccurate, and in your case, flat-out dishonest. Hitler himself stated: "We do not want any other god than Germany itself. It is essential to have fanatical faith and hope and love in and for Germany."
Mother's Lament remains correct. The Holocaust was caused by "you guys"; if it wasn't "you guys" the atheists, then certainly it was "you guys", the anti-Christians.
What if Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis decides not to run for president?
NYMag pops a woodrow.
So Musk sees Substack Notes as a competitor to Twitter and therefore is trying suppress link s to it on Twitter. This may be a dubious and less than principled practice, but it seems a politically neutral decision. Musk does not have to be ideologically perfect for him to be in the right on the Twitter Files scandal.
Yeah, I don't like it, because I like substack. But this isn't the same as censoring political opponents on behalf of usg officals.
All Ford dealers must display directions to Chevrolet dealerships.
Just like all crisis pregnancy centers must off abortion materials and info on how to get one.
It's only "akin to censorship" when the FBI leans on Twitter to suppress a story about Biden's corruption weeks before the presidential election. Rico said so himself. It's not actually censorship.
Friendly recommendations.
Mostly peaceful.
But here's my argument: It's a bad business decision. If people can find links to the Substack stories that interest them in their twitter feed, they don't need to leave Twitter. If you start suppressing people's ability to find the links they'd want to find, redirecting them to the Substack articles they're interested in, then you create a desire to leave twitter. You'd have to go somewhere else.
Ideally, Twitter wouldn't suppress links to anything unless there were concerns about malicious software or actual child porn.
Or stealing stuff from Twitter.
It may very well be a bad business decision. The criticism of Musk here, though, is being used to justify that the previous Twitter management's collusion with government agencies to suppress speech they found inconvenient was fine.
"The criticism of Musk here, though, is being used to justify that the previous Twitter management’s collusion with government agencies"
This is what's actually going on here. Nobody really cares if a social media company is stopping Substack's automated harvesting.
It's the whole reason White Mike's been posting like a possessed madman today.
There's a little bit more to it than that. I have no problem with throttling a competitor that is essentially trying to steal all the data you have on your platform.
What is happening also is that links to substack are being...well, shadow-banned. You can tweet them, but they can't be liked or re-tweeted, which is lowering their visibility and their engagement. While Substack is working on creating a competing platform, the actual articles are substack are not any sort of competitor to Twitter. One of the biggest features making Twitter useful is the convenience of sharing links to get people to look at something somewhere else. I think it's a bad decision to suppress content coming from one place, because when it gets harder to find on Twitter, it discourages people who want that thing from using Twitter.
It may be a bad business decision and may be unethical, but that's not the point Reason is trying to make. They're trying to paint what is essentially a business war between two companies as *exactly the same* at the government pressuring/paying twitter to supress viewpoints.
Criticizing the business decision is valid. Trying to paint Musk as a censor really isn't.
"Criticizing the business decision is valid. Trying to paint Musk as a censor really isn’t."
This is what I was trying to illustrate, A Thinking Mind. They're deliberately misrepresenting and exploiting what's happening for the sake of a dishonest narrative.
Twitter is now labeling NPR as "government funded" rather than "state affiliated."
Booooo.
So, a whore and not a partner.
A Florida teacher was fired after giving his students a crazy assignment: He told them to write their own obituaries in the event of a mass shooting.
Not everyone likes conventional pr0n.
This story is unbelievable... A teacher got fired?
Ouch.
Must have been a white male.
Florida. If this were New York, California, Illinois, or Maryland, the kid's parents would under investigation.
You had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
I had a similar assignment almost 30 years ago. It was meant to help you think about what you wanted to achieve in life. When you die, what do you want to be remembered for?
Was it about your death in a school shooting?
He was the shooter.
Would you feel better if they imagined themselves tossed out of windows? Agonizing death from cancer?
How far to go? Eliminate Plath, Kipling, Henley, Melville, Faust, Homer, Lovecraft, Miller, Orwell, etc., etc., etc. from English classes?
That’s already happening.
Kids are being thrown out of windows?!?!
Yeah. That part.
Yeah. 11th and 12th graders.
"I don't know, ma'am. I just didn't want my family finding out that I died hiding under a table." - Airmen Spencer Stone
My 10th grader went through an active shooter alarm last year. I have a feeling if you gave him the choice of going through an actual drill or the writing assignment, he'd choose the actual drill, and not out of any fear of psychological trauma.
The psychological torture leftists have been inflicting on children the past decade is horrific.
Again worth noting, these were 11th and 12th graders. Unlike "Don't say K-3" some/many of these kids are legally adults.
It's still terrorism.
Depends on which you're talking about. The school psychologist asking kids to write about their own death in order to elicit a notion of what any given kid envisions as the purpose of their lives isn't exactly terrorism. I'd agree about poorly executed if done strictly or specifically in the context of a school shooting but, still, I don't see anything saying a reply of, "I hope I have the courage to die while stabbing the shooter in the face and either die saving my fellow classmates or live a long, otherwise uneventful life and die quietly in my sleep." was in any way unacceptable or even disfavored.
The grade school teachers actively trying to discredit longstanding biological and linguistic norms by trying to discuss their own sexuality or social views of it with grade schoolers, flying their own social flags and threatening that kids will suicide if they aren't allowed to continue is definitely terrorizing people.
I would also add a compare/contrast to the troon nonsense. AFAIK, this is the first of such incidents I’ve heard of teaching-wise. Yes, schools shouldn’t be operated like death cults. You shouldn’t have to ponder your life to understand English pronouns or to do math. At the same time, If you’re going to say Nathan Hale’s Dangerous Tales need to *be removed* from school libraries, you’ve lost me… and a couple teens who read them in grade school… and a couple pre-teens who are in grade school and are fans of the books they’ve read so far.
They're legally adults, but many of them have been completely infantilized their whole lives, and taught to view every sad feeling or every bad thing as trauma. They've also spent their entire school years doing active shooter drills. At this point, most 17 and 18 year olds have zero ability to rationally think about the actual risk of a school shooting.
The guy probably could have accomplished the goals of the assignment without calling up the specter of a violent death. Everyone dies. Ask them to write their obit after they died of natural causes at the age of 90.
The guy probably could have accomplished the goals of the assignment without calling up the specter of a violent death. Everyone dies. Ask them to write their obit after they died of natural causes at the age of 90.
Agreed, sorta. Certainly not requisite but thinking critically, "I'm going to play COD until I'm 70 and then be the first person to set foot on Mars." is probably not what was being sought.
Either way, I think we can all agree that "Keene said to NBC that he was too new of a hire to qualify for membership to the local teachers’ union, so he had no administrative method available to seek reinstatement to his job." is an exceedingly good outcome.
All right reason is finally mentioning the Twitter files. Now if only there was something more substantial to this story other than a spat between Elon and matt
Dipping a toe in the water.
It plays into the current Progressive narrative that Musk is the devil incarnate.
Or one of the devils incarnate, aside from Trump and DeSantis.

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Twitter is now labeling NPR as "government funded" rather than "state affiliated."
Apparently the current talking point is that NPR gets only 1% of its funding from the government ....... but that taking away this 1% would be a devastating blow.
Jeez, just do like Reason.com and find a silver spoon billionaire sugar daddy so you can avoid all this.
I think the trick there is that NPR gets 1% directly from the government. But most of their income comes from the local stations. Which are almost all government funded to some extent.
I always wondered about that. Did they not get royalties from all the Seseme Street licensed toys, wear, and gear? What are they, stupid?
And if it just costs "less than a cup of coffee a day," as they say during their quarterly Beg-A-Thons, then why don't they sell their own fair-trade, locally-grown, sustainable, soy-milked, decaffeinated concoction of shit instead of harshing on me while I drink my full-strength Maxwell House or Folger's?!?!? LEAVE ME ALONE WITH MY CAFFEINE BUZZ!
😉
NPR isn't all of public broadcasting.
American public broadcasting isn't government run either. I think "government funded" is probably more neutral and accurate than "state affiliated". But "he who pays the piper..." and all that.

"Rewilding" for the elite.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/04/10/the-green-war-on-sheep/
Much of the anti-sheep animus is driven by the green elites’ dreams of ‘rewilding’. They believe that we should allow more of our land to revert to its natural, ‘wild’ state. I hate to disappoint arm-chair ecologists, but uncultivated land in Mid Wales does not swiftly revert to verdant oak forest. It turns to scrub land, featuring the odd anaemic birch strangled by brambles. To create the glorious woodland dreamt of by the rewilders actually requires a good deal of human management. It’s about as natural as a branch of TK Maxx [TJ Maxx].
You know who else had a fixation for sheep?

Really?
Not if you got all your news from Reason.
Musk's stated plan to make Twitter a more hospitable place for free expression was admirable

Forget Paul Ehrlich, depopulation is a bigger problem.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/04/10/the-depopulation-bomb/
The world’s population has long been growing on an upward curve. About 75 per cent of the world’s population growth has occurred over the past 100 years, more than 50 per cent of it since 1970. But now, according to the United Nations, population growth is on course to drop to near zero, especially in more developed nations. Globally, last year’s total population growth was the smallest in half a century. By 2050 it is estimated that some 61 countries are expected to experience population declines.
I blame Covid.
Oh dear, if world population growth goes below zero, where will we get the immigrants Fiona says we so desperately need?
IIRC from a World Bank study a few years back, the single most important contributing factor to a decline in population growth was the education of girls.
Also the decline in liberty.
So now the U.N is wanting us to Take The Ceauçescu Challenge? Didn't they know how that went down...and finally ended...with much rejoicing from my end as I watched it live on worldwide TV?
Depopulation is going to be a much larger problem than any unfounded fears that comes from supposed overpopulation. Don't expect to retire anytime soon for one.
America Is Back in the Factory Business
Record spending on manufacturing construction heralds a made-in-the-U.S. rebound, stoked by green-energy incentives and concerns about foreign supply chains; ‘this is here to stay’
.
Production at U.S. factories rose last year, but few things were produced at a more furious pace than factories themselves.
.
Construction spending related to manufacturing reached $108 billion in 2022, Census Bureau data show, the highest annual total on record—more than was spent to build schools, healthcare centers or office buildings.

Whatever. Just keep shrieking about RIG COUNT while ordinary people notice everything they buy getting more expensive.

And KamKam is too stupid to help him.
worldwide inflation he inherited.
LOL
Yes, a lot like Carter, except for that son of his who is a go-between and forks over 10% to the The Big Guy, stumbling around in Ukraine while suspected of blowing up a pipeline, whining about the Republicans while his own Democrats are worse on civil liberties, stumbling up stairs, and pooping his pants in front of the Pope. Trump dead-enders are the stupidest people on the planet, Exhibit #5,624
Without Trump, Putin is the most powerful leader in the international arena standing up for traditional Christianity and Western values — and it’s not even close.
Trump's "religion" is no more sincere than Obama's.
Putin "stands up for Western values" by .... well, I don't know, but between 2012 and 2016 Democrats flip-flopped on Russia so Trump dead-enders have to go full retard in the other direction.
Donnie knows Christians are a bunch of dumbasses. I like how he told one of them how much he loved the Bible but then couldn't name a verse in it.

The AWFL inability to understand anything beyond prescribed academic narratives and the reactionary politics they've projected onto those deplorables is hilarious.
The permanent managerial class really hates having their mediocre intellects challenged.
Remember when Sheldon Richman wrote "Excuse me, but I have trouble seeing an essential difference between what Kyle did in Iraq and what Adam Lanza did at Sandy Hook Elementary School." and was soundly trounced for his utter retardation?
Sandra, it would appear, thinks she can one up him with "Excuse me, but I have trouble seeing an essential difference between Henry Ford, Ferdinand Porsche, and Elon Musk."
Trump’s “religion” is no more sincere than Obama’s.
Well... yeah. You really can't argue with obvious religious sincerity of Obama's Nobel Peace Prize.
"Trump’s “religion” is no more sincere than Obama’s."
Evangelicals on Trump in a nutshell: “Donald Trump is going to embarrass me every day of the year, but unlike the other side, he doesn’t hate my faith, and actively seek to do me harm.”

Putin “stands up for Western values” by …. well, I don’t know, but between 2012 and 2016 Democrats flip-flopped on Russia so Trump dead-enders have to go full retard in the other direction.
It's really more of a function of Putin not going along with western globohomo than anything else, although anyone who thinks the man is a bastion of traditionalism really is stupid. The closest we really have to a Franco--who was NOT, in fact, a fascist, but a traditionalist and monarchist who prioritized the military and the church as cultural pillars, and effectively prevented left-wing entryism in Spain for the rest of his rein--is probably Orban, mainly for kicking Soros out of Hungary.
A bad parody of women.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/04/09/dylan-mulvaneys-parody-of-womanhood/
We live in a world where a man who masquerades as a sportswoman is showered with praise and money while an actual sportswoman is branded a ‘stupid fucking bitch’ and punched in the face. A world where a bloke can be paid thousands of dollars to prance around in a sports bra in a grotesque parody of a female athlete while a real female athlete is set upon by a seething mob and told to ‘go the fuck home’. A world where a man in leggings doing a sub-Dick Emery satire on womanhood is held up as a role model while a young woman who trained her whole life to be an elite athlete is damned as a bigot and – direct quote – a ‘transphobic bitch’.
We should have kept the asylums open.
I think the problem is that we opened them.
That and never passed the 19th amendment. Two biggest mistakes ever.

North Carolina may be required to repay nearly a half million dollars to the federal government due to overpayments of rent and utility assistance in fiscal year 2022.
In total, the Department of Public Safety made at least $486,808 in overpayments of rent and utility assistance from the Emergency Rental Assistance program. Auditors examined how the program was administered in several ways, and in some cases looked at just a sample of the spending.
Eddie Buffaloe Jr., a Democrat, was appointed by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper to the Cabinet-level secretary position that leads the department in September 2021 and ran the program the last nine months of the fiscal year.
How much went to DNC campaign funds?
… nearly a half million dollars…
Whoa! You could buy a nice Airbnb for that kind of cabbage!
Again with the "she claims she faced violence" spin.
Is there actually some reason to doubt that what is seen on video and the descriptions of people there are inaccurate?
It really seems odd to word it this way, particularly on a site known for credulously repeating purported victim's claims.
Apparently nobody on the "anti-Gains" side seems to doubt the veracity of the story. The online response has been largely to laugh at her, post FAFO memes, and generally celebrate "you have a right to free speech... but not to freedom from consequences".
But reason is positioning themselves as cautious skeptics?
Where is that coming from?
Less credible than Ford who Robbie called credible. Think about that.
I was about to say that. Video evidence of it happening is not as credible as "Well, this happened at some time. Somewhere. I think"
And rebutted by every witness she claimed was there... and by an effing calendar!!
Who the hell kept a detailed calendar of their every coming and going in high school.. and then kept the thing for 35 years?!?! You are never going to see any claim more thoroughly disproven, bit when you put "and this was 35 years ago when you were a kid" on it...
And yet.... head over to The Atlantic, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, Vox, etc and you will still see it stated as a fact... actually as a factual claim that goes far beyond anything even Ford claimed.
$4.7 Million in Small Amounts of Money Donated to Democrats – Apparently Without the Donors’ Knowledge
https://townhall.com/columnists/rachelalexander/2023/04/10/47-million-in-small-amounts-of-money-donated-to-democrats-apparently-without-the-donors-knowledge-n2621731
Suspicious money laundering may have been occurring, with donations made using the old folks’ names and addresses since they were less likely to discover them than younger people. O’Keefe, who started OMG Media Group after parting ways with Project Veritas, showed up at the homes of several of the elderly people, who have been dubbed “Smurfs,” to confront them about the excessive contributions. They all appeared to be Democrats of modest means who seemed confused and generally denied making anything but small amounts.
One of the biggest recipients of the small amounts of donations was Janet for Justice, the campaign of Janet Protasiewicz, who narrowly won her Wisconsin Supreme Court race, tipping the balance on the court in favor of Democrats.

It wasn't really neutral given that it lacked the usual "Twitter is a private company so they can do what they want" disclaimer.

The Illinois 2A violation could catch hunters too.
https://www.thecentersquare.com/illinois/article_130c544e-d579-11ed-82a2-57d7d3d98b58.html
The provision of Illinois’ gun and magazine ban beginning Monday is affecting resident and nonresident hunters.
“Western and southwestern Illinois get a fair amount of hunters that come in from Missouri and Iowa particularly for waterfowl, so it’s already a big issue,” Witkowski said. “There’s a potential for firearm seizure, there's potential for felony involved, it’s going to be a huge issue with the hunting community with that going on.”
Other elements leave much to be answered, he said.
“A 12 gauge shotgun can have a chamber anywhere from 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches in size, but a 3 ½ inch 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun can typically carry six or seven 2 ¾ shells, so now the question is does this automatically become an assault weapon,” Witkowski said.

The Daniel Perry case just took a crazy turn.
The lead detective, David Fugitt just filed an affidavit claiming the Soros backed DA had him remove over 100 pages of exculpatory evidence…
The grand jury NEVER got to see it.
This is criminal.
Reason covered this (badly) when it happened. A photo in the comments show Foster pointing his AK at the driver.
The jury voted guilty largely based on one post Perry made regarding how he would defend himself if surrounded by rioters. The post was made shortly after Portland rioters shot someone. The DA used this to pretend Perry had a motive to find a protest to shoot someone. It was a travesty of a trial and the jury in Austin shows how left that city is.
Imagine simping for someone who was stupid enough to flex up on an armed individual in Texas during a left-wing riot.

The ultra-rich and influence over government.

US media went ballistic over Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ until-now-unreported vacationing courtesy of his host, longtime family friend, GOP megadonor and Texas real-estate billionaire Harlan Crow.
But that reminds us again of how little the press takes note of the influence of a far more consequential multibillionaire, George Soros.
Meanwhile, The Post reports that Soros’ eldest son Alexander has visited the Biden White House at least 14 times as his dad’s emissary, a dozen in 2022 alone — regularly meeting with top advisors to the president.
Soros donations have also been key to electing hyperprogressive prosecutors across the nation — men and women like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, dedicated to keeping as many criminals and accused as possible out of prison and jail.
The Soros clan’s routine response is to denounce all criticism as anti-Semitic conspiracy-mongering, though nearly all of it is just a mirror image of the left’s long obsession with (markedly smaller) Koch family political spending.
I’m probably the only person in the world who defends both the Kochs and Soros.

Certainly our affirmative action justice should know better.
I couldn't tell you all the important stories that Reason did not cover, but I can tell you that it was because they are left-handed leftist leftists with bad intentions.
No, they haven’t. They are obviously trying to suppress the story.

No mention in the Round-up of Daniel Perry's conviction for murder on Friday despite Reason having eulogied the protester he shot? Guess they must be saving up for a full article on the potential pitfalls of exercising your right to self-defense against armed thugs on city streets.
They didn't mention it because they're leftists.
If they don't mention it will be because they don't give a shit about self-defense or the 2A. Abbott has already said he would pardon Perry, but the damage is done. They proved that even in a smaller city like Austin, you can get a jury without a single person with a conscience.
Now go stand up for lefties in someone else's thread, you mewling cunt. You said you had me on mute.
Make up explanations for what people don't say while ignoring what they do say. It's the Reason comments' way.
Except that is not what I posted, shitstain. Quit projecting.
The only thing I project is awesomeness. Now get out of my shadow!
Are you celebrating a man going to jail for defending himself?
Poor sarc.
I get that you are tired of hearing the refrain. And it isn't entirely unjustifiable to be annoyed with the drone.
But do you seriously doubt the veracity of the underlying complaint - to wit, that the flagship libertarian publication has largely abandoned its mission and roots as a principled Libertarian voice in favor of pushing partisan hit pieces?
I see partisans taking personal offense at any criticism of their team and interpreting it to mean everything said is critical of their team, while deliberately ignoring anything critical of the other team to the point where there are virtually no comments other than me saying "This article does not exist!" on such articles.
What the fuck are you going on about? I started a thread about Perry and you insert a dichotomy of left-right. Self-defense is the ultimate libertarian issue, you buffoon. If you can't defend yourself against someone pointing a gun at you while illegally blocking the street, then there really is no right.
I'm not talking about the issue, man. I'm talking about why tReason isn't covering it. It's because they're leftists. If they do cover it it's only because they felt ashamed after you pointing it out in the comments. Because they're leftists. Did I mention that they're leftists? They're all leftists.
Yes, I get it. You are drunk and projecting.
He was drinking lots of Bud Light before it was trans-cool.
Just look at the censorship on the internet issue.
Reason loudly argued that it did not exist. For years.
Then they tried out "this is a good thing" for a while.
Then "private corporations can do what the want".
Then Taibbi documents precisely how it is a government coordinated propaganda system.
And then there is a bit of coverage.... but this is a much, much bigger story than Watergate. And the original reporting is completely absent, and the hot takes have been... well, stunningly disinterested.
If one were to imagine a hypothetical idealized libertarian publication.... one entirely rooted in the NAP and deeply skeptical of government power, what would that publication do with a story showing that there are hundreds of dedicated government agents directing media and tech companies to control public debate?
(If you answered "maybe post a couple of reactions to other reporters in blog posts, but that is about it", you don't have a very good idealized libertarian model in your noggin)
Funny how they changed their minds when presented with evidence.
That puts them leaps and bounds above most people in the comments when it comes to intellectual honesty.
There was evidence of censorship prior to The Twitter Files:
https://reason.com/2021/07/21/biden-is-trying-to-impose-online-censorship-by-proxy/
The Biden administration itself worked with Facebook to silence dissenting voices. Yet many Reason editors kept claiming it was "muh private companies" and when they were shown otherwise, told people to go to Mastodon instead of calling out the blatant violation of the 1st Amendment.
Your gaslighting is disgusting. Repent of your lies.
There may be some of that... but surely you cannot fail to note things like Reason publishing 4 or 5 hit pieces on Ron DeSantis every week for months? Newsome has similarly thrown his hat in the ring, yet he has not been the focus of a vilification campaign, even if a few of his worst moves have received criticism.
Biden and Newsome combined have not remotely received the coverage that a single GOP governor who has not even announced his candidacy has received.
Why is every thing a “hit piece”? If the guy is acting non-libertarian (and face it, he’s no libertarian), then why should tReason praise him?
And there’s articles about Newsome’s buffoonery and California in general at least twice a week.
But the latter gets very few comments. Why? Because that would mean acknowledging that such articles exist, and that goes against the narrative.
Dude, you were here. Why pretend that it didn’t happen?
It was like a light switch got turned on.
And no, your claim that Newsom got the same treatment as DeSantis is not even arguable.
Prove it to yourself. Go to Google. Search news. Use tools. Pick custom dates. Put in February.
site:reason.com desantis site:reason.com newsom
There are 3 articles that mention Newsome.
There are 3 *pages* of articles that mention DeSantis. Almost all are heavily spun to the negative, many in ways that are dishonest. That is more than 1 per day.
DeSantis has gotten more coverage on Reason because he's been in the news more!
And yes the articles are heavily spun to the negative because he's not a libertarian!
It's not because tReason is run by a bunch of Southpaw leftist leftists.
Newsom has been in the news just as much, and he's been rather loud and annoying on Twitter. The articles here are negative because there are a bunch of libertines, not libertarians running the magazine.
I don't know about Twatter because, like about 98% of the country, I ignore it.
However as far as regular old news goes, DeSantis has been keeping himself in it. He wants to be talked about. Newsome shows up when he does something stupid, which is often. But not because he's trying to be center stage.
Newsome is even on a red state tour lol.
Lol. Watch those goalposts move. You said Newsom got similar coverage.
And I purposely picked February because it was before he started most of the heavy handed red meat for the base stuff.
He is in the national news entirely because the propaganda machine wants him there. That is the entire point. Everyone noted it at the time. You can't go back and post date that check.
Your entire idea is indefensible. There is zero question that there has been a national campaign against desantis from the left for several months. The question is, why is reason on the team instead of standing outside with the rest of us.
One could claim that it was Trump when he was around. Matt particularly turned red in the face at the mention of his name, so you could tether things to that. And being left-libertarian or cosmotarian explained giving Obama so much of a pass. But once Biden takes over and we get the hardcore anti-liberty dystopia? Pivoting to DeSantis as enemy 1 means you are not a libertarian in any sense of the word. There are probably 45 less libertarian governors. But you don't need to invoke them.... we have the Biden administration. They aren't even on the right side of civil liberties.
Lol. Watch those goalposts move. You said Newsom got similar coverage.
No, I didn't. Anything that follows that is a strawman.
@sarcasmic
You claimed that Reason was covering Newsom/California twice a week, yet the search results suggests less. Knock it off with your nonsense.
“….because he’s been in the news more!”
Uh, dude. You don’t see what you just did there, do you?
It’s a really interesting dynamic at Reason and in the comments. Reason is clearly a progressive leaning “libertarian” magazine, and there are those who deny that. However, there are definitely those who drone on and on about everything that Reason does is wrong and supposedly geared towards supporting leftist narratives, which is not true. But that then brings on those who drone on and on about the others droning on and on.
It’s almost comical at this point because it is so tribal and so cliched.
Libertarians haven't drifted left. Rather the right has drifted away from liberty and towards authoritarianism.
I used to say that the right gives lip service to economic liberty while being hostile to personal liberty, while the left gives lip service to personal liberty while being hostile to economic liberty.
As it is now, the right is just plain hostile to liberty. That leaves liberty lovers left with the left's lip service to personal liberty.
This claim is entirely indefensible.
Really? The majority of tReason's complaints about Trump during his reign were on economics and immigration, which the right used to be somewhat friendly towards. No more. Without having economic liberty in common, there's not much for libertarians and the political right to talk about.
I was here. I can't tell you how many comments I began with "stop making me defend this idiot".
Reson rarely had a reasoned response to Trump.
I get it. I had a really hard time figuring out what the heck he was doing.
But the 2 "issues based" critiques or Trump were never correctly understood or argued by Reason's staff.
First was immigration. Reason is an open border proponent. But arguing against simply enforcing immigration law as it exists is *much worse* than enforcing the law (which was trumps position, including the much hated concept of building a wall). I cannot make a libertarian argument for large scale illegal immigration. (Which has been the position of both parties for decades, and is where Reason landed during Trump)
The other is trade and tarrifs. Reason seemed to take the position that Trump imposed tariffs because he likes isolationist trade. I think this is far too facile. I argued at the time that he was doing extremely simply tit for tat, carrot and stick negotiating. Either give me a better deal, or I shall put tariffs in place.
It actually worked in many places, but whether it worked or not, I don't think it was an intelligent analysis to ignore the endgame being a negotiation rather than the tariffs.
Other than that? There was little of substance. Loads of coverage of things that were largely indefensible at the time, but were never really investigated and then abandoned and ignored once they ceased working. None of which was led from here.
Which is the most indefensible thing of all. Nothing has broken from Reason since Balko left except a couple of debunking articles from Soave. And those only marginally count as original reporting.
I really hoped the departure of captain cheeto would see Reason return to its roots.
Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Failing to do original reporting on the propaganda machine is the death rattle. Leaving that story for others means you are simply not libertarian journalists, left, right or center.
I've been catching up on an economics podcast. The way they talk about Trump and what he says about the deficit, it makes me think he confuses the trade 'deficit' with the government borrowing money. So when he said he'd wipe out the deficit, I think he was referring to trade 'imbalances.' Combine that with his trade policies and it makes a lot more sense.
I didn’t say libertarians drifted left. I explained that Reason is a left leaning libertarian outlet. The majority of libertarians have actually drifted more right.
And both parties are technically hostile to liberty at the end of the day. The right is less so right now comparted to the left because the right isn’t in charge of anything. So, to claim the right is this outlier of hostility to liberty is just bizarre.
I would argue that the threat is uniquely grave at the moment. This is nothing like the moral majority fighting Hollywood and getting rid of sex on movies, or Tipper Gore battling expicit content in music, or even battling over gay marriage.
We are now at a place where the DNC and the left are explicitly calling for opposing voices to be forcibly silenced..... and they are doing it! Both within government using government power, and outside of government using corporate power.
Arguing over the extent to which tarrifs should play a role in foreign trade, or whether to enforce immigration laws really pales in comparison to an all powerful propaganda machine that also comes with the power to make you unemployable and excluded from all financial services should you squeal too loudly.
I don’t disagree with you. I thought that sentiment was clearly expressed in my post.
I understand that either side has the ability to be authoritarians. All groups of people want to control other people, that’s the nature of humans. Thus, the right can definitely be concerning if they ever gain control. But the right isn’t in control, and, thus, not concerning from an authoritarian point of view. Heck, as the out party, the right makes the arguments for freedom and liberty more than the left does, because that’s what those out of power fight for.
The left is the one in control, and, therefore, the prior positions of freedom, individualism, and liberty are now in conflict with the left’s desired goals. As such, the left is currently clamping down on freedom and liberty in order to protect their hold on power.
The left is the concerning ideology at the time being. The right is not. Doesn’t mean that can’t change, but that’s the way it is right now.
That whooshing noise was my point flying over your head.
The tenuous alliance between conservatives and libertarians was based upon economics. The right has abandoned any notion of economic liberty while still being hostile to personal liberty. That gives the appearance of libertarians siding with the left, when what happened was their buddies on the right walked away from them.
What whooshing noise? You are in some weird non-sequitur world. I explained that Reason is a left leaning libertarian outlet. You can go to places like Lew Rockwell and find right leaning libertarians.
I then explained your hyperbole concerning the right is just outlandish in reality. But I know you've grown more and more tribal, or at least anathema to the right, based on your constant interactions with people like JesseAz.
Why am I being brought up here IS?
I am not even engaging with sarc at this point based on his dishonesty.
Most of my interactions with sarc are pointing out how he is dishonest and largely defending statist actions. I've even been calling him a neocon lately as that has been his prime talking point source.
Are you inferring I'm right wing or something? I'm largely in agreement with your above posts, but more so with Cyto's in the left being far more an attack on liberty than the right. Especially with media, narrative shaping, weaponization, etc. Those aren't right wing values, so not sure what your implication is here.
Just because i don't push every liberal narrative and actively fight back against incorrect information doesn't make me right wing.
With sarc I just think he is a glaring hypocrite who is ignorant to most things.
I bring you up simply to explain sarc’s motivation for comments. You aren’t right wing, but you definitely lean right. And you and sarc argue a lot, and it appears that sarc has drifted more left simply to be contrarian to you rather than having organically moved left.
I may be wrong on that, but it has that appearance.
JesseAz is a liar and a sack of shit, yet I've seen righty-tighties call him out exactly zero times. Why? Because he voted for Trump. That excuses lies and despicable personal attacks in these parts.
You can go to places like Lew Rockwell and find right leaning libertarians.
I checked that out and that’s more anarchy-land than libertopia. While I definitely sympathize with anarchists, I fail to see how it could ever work in real life. Some people are going to band together to use organized violence to steal. Either they become government, or people hire a gang of thugs to fight them off and they become government. Either way there’s always a gang of thugs demanding protection money. Can’t avoid death or taxes.
That and I don't see how capitalism (the second half of anarcho-capitalist) can function without some sort of government enforcing property rights and contracts.
I don't like it, but I don't see a way out of it.
I may be wrong on that, but it has that appearance.
You are wrong. Most of what people think about me is based upon the turds that liars like JesseAz drop on all of my comments. They consistently argue against things I never said nor did and bring things up out of context, while ignoring what I do say. They have succeeded in their mission. Yay them. I thought some people here were smart enough to see through it, but I was wrong.
I’ve got the fuck-hole on mute so I’m not tempted to respond to his lies. When he wasn’t on mute, every reply to him had to start with refuting the lies in his previous post. It just got too tiresome. Unfortunately for me those lies, thanks to repetition and not being called out, have become the narrative.
Nah, most of what people think about you comes from your own postings. People can see when you're being unfairly ridiculed by others and not hold that against you, I sure don't. But, people can also see when you engage in the exact same behavior that you condemn and hold that against you.
Really. I make a point of refuting arguments while trying to leave the people out of it. The behavior I'm calling out is attacking people to discredit their ideas. I don't do that.
I point out cognitive dissonance a lot. If anyone takes it personally that's their problem. I'm not naming names. Whereas the attacks on me are always personal in nature, and always based upon lies.
I'm not seeing me behaving like JesseAz, the Canadian Cunt, or any of those under-the-bridge dwellers.
"I make a point of refuting arguments while trying to leave the people out of it."
“I’m not seeing me behaving like JesseAz, the Canadian Cunt, or any of those under-the-bridge dwellers.”
Uh huh.
You don't see a difference between naming those who engage in ad hominems and the spreading of lies with engaging in the same behavior?
You're either really fucking stupid or dishonest.
Being that you're not stupid, I'm gonna say I'm sorry I had this conversation with you. I mistook you for an honest person. My mistake.
The behavior I’m calling out is attacking people to discredit their ideas. I don’t do that.
Except that is exactly what you with your very first post in this thread. You responded to my query about the lack of mention of Daniel Perry's conviction as if I had called Reason a bunch of lefties for their failings. I didn't. It is a legitimate question since they actually ran a whole article that eulogized the guy Perry was convicted of murdering, which I mentioned.
Your response was a pre-emptive attack that failed to address the topic and lacked any nuance, accusing me of a behavior that I did not exhibit in an effort to discredit any ideas I might propose as to the Perry conviction. Based on your history of posting and the fact that it succeeded, that analysis seems logical. Nobody is talking about Perry in the thread.
Congratufuckinglations! You shit the thread.
Hm. Didn’t think of it that way. Thanks Chuck. If your intent was to have a conversation about Perry, not about why Reason didn't cover it, then I sincerely apologize. That's not what I'm trying to do.
Sarc,
Maybe you should start being honest with yourself. I simply quoted your two statements: one saying you only attack issues not people, the second calling a bunch of people childish names.
This is my point. You may want to engage with issues, but you are one who quickly resorts to the very same behavior that you condemn. And now your lashing out at me for simply pointing out the obvious. You can't claim to be high minded and only wanting to focus on issues all while also trolling and calling people names. You can't have it both ways.
It's the same thing as Never-Trumpers who engage in the exact same awful behavior as Trump to because of their hatred for Trump's behavior. There's a hypocrisy you have to start seeing.
I think you have many worthwhile comments. You should stick to those rather than constantly getting all emotional and jumping into the mud pit with people.
If your intent was to have a conversation about Perry, not about why Reason didn’t cover it, then I sincerely apologize. That’s not what I’m trying to do.
I will bookmark this. Now nobody can say that you are not magnanimous in victory. I just had to cede the argument I never got to make and that you never countered to trigger it. Feels like win-win.
Somehow you managed to be in a coma over the past decade when the left has definitely drifted authoritarian. Somehow you managed to miss all the "blue" states with draconian Covid rules. Somehow you managed to miss the words from people like Nancy Pelosi claiming that people need to prove innocence.
The left has always been authoritarian. That's why I don't call them out on it. It's not news. The right was supposed to defend liberty from the left. Now they've taken a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude.
Thanks for admitting your blatant disregard of calling out the left for their BS. Talk about a double standard you hold.
Sarcastic has really risen to SQRLSY levels of nonsense to derail conversations. I refer to such antics as the "pants-shitter's fallacy". Make a conversation so unpalatable that no one else will comment for fear of getting hit by the shit being flung.
Sarc is a paragon of political discourse.
Perhaps he will post some more articles about tongue kissing a llama for us.
It makes me hard when people talk about me in the third person.
Yeah baby, yeah!
TMI.
I actually bet it does... or at least as hard as whiskeydick can get.
Muting him is a solid plan.
Mute anyone who questions your assumptions! Echo! echo echo echo echo...
Post your mute list!
sarcasmic and Sqrsly are the two main ones for me. I have missed nothing.
"Mute anyone who questions your assumptions! Echo! echo echo echo echo…"
Self-awareness isn't Sarcasmic's superpower. I don't even think White Mike has bragged about muting as many people as Sarcles.
It's not "muting anyone who questions my assumptions", it's "muting people who have an insufficient signal to noise ratio".
I mean, for fuck's sake, I don't even have raspberrydinners muted and I don't think he's *ever* posted anything I agreed with. But it's still not the utter, squawking, flaming retardation of The Thread Shitting Crew.
Question:
Are you aware of:
https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2023-35
https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/church-issues-statement-on-sec-settlement
If you all want to hoard money that’s your business. However, can you all stop bragging about how charitable you are? Most normal people don’t consider the bulk of your “charity” as charitable. Also it’s obvious you all only do it for your “blessings” and to make yourself feel good. You don’t actually care about helping others.
Kind of like the sex abuse thing. If your church wants to put its reputation and finances before protecting kids and justice that’s your business. However can you stop saying you try and prevent abuse and hold abusers accountable because you don’t.
Hope you and your family had a good Easter. It looks like your church is actually celebrating Easter now in an effort to make your church seem more mainstream.
LOL
Poor KAR.
Hope you and your family had a good Easter.
Moved beyond threats to rape wives and murder kids? The therapy seems to be having some effect. Try upping the sessions to twice a week. Holding on to a "gotcha" for six weeks is still very unhealthy behavior.
My therapist said it would be hard convincing people to love me again. However, she told me that no matter how shitty I feel, I’ve never spent one dollar propping up a church founded by a child fucker. All the evil caused by by the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is not my fault. Despite witnessing it firsthand. She also told me to not hate people who enable sex abuse. And that shaming them won’t work. Treat them with love and respect to try and convince them they’re morally bankrupt.
God bless you Chuck! I’ll pray you see the errors of your ways.
If you actually had read the article, you would find the Church actually had done nothing wrong knowingly. Perhaps the SEC should actually be much more clear on their rules instead of being vague and collecting millions, if not billions of dollars every year for their ridiculous wording.
Statistics also show that sex abuse is no more likely to occur among the Church's members than it is outside of it. This is also true with members of any religion; abuse has also happened in places like public schools, government programs and Hollywood. There are anecdotes of effective anti-abuse strategies among religious people where the abuser gets quickly arrested.
And contrary to what you claim, there is no evidence that any sex abuse occurred from the Church's founder. In fact, plenty of records point to the opposite.
Not that your response had anything to do with Chuck P.'s post; at this point, you're just spreading propaganda. But never forget that Jesus loves you; Come unto Christ and let Him change your heart.
Assaults on "democracy".
https://nypost.com/2023/04/09/democrats-assault-on-democracy-focuses-on-whose-voices-are-being-channeled-not-on-the-law/
It appears that nothing says democracy like a bullhorn and obstructing legislative work.
Vice President Harris did not visit the families of the victims of the recent mass shooting in Nashville, but flew to the state to express her outrage at the expulsion of two legislators.
It is an ironic position of some Democrats who have supported calls for expelling House members after Jan. 6, including false claims that members personally assisted rioters in surveilling and getting access to the building.
There is no discussion of how reckless rhetoric to rise up against the “fascists” fuels violence despite the common objections to such rhetoric from figures like Trump.
When witnesses recently called for an investigation into government censorship efforts, Democratic members denounced those calling for greater transparency as “Putin lovers” and apologists for insurrectionists and racists.
It is all part of Politics BYOB (Bring Your Own Bullhorn).
It is an ironic position of some Democrats who have supported calls for expelling House members after Jan. 6, including false claims that members personally assisted rioters in surveilling and getting access to the building.
It's only ironic if you think they give a shit about fairness, consistency, or honesty. They openly do not.
It is pretty ridiculous. Outrageous even.
And I think expelling the elected representatives was a dumb idea.
Let’s see. What is at the top of the Drudge Report.
Why isn’t tReason talking about China?!?!
Why isn’t tReason talking about the latest shooting?!?!
Why doesn’t tReason want to bomb Mexico?!?!
Man. That took no effort at all. And I just proved that everyone at tReason are leftists.
Also, daily Dead Milkmen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB9DSWxtsgU
?
Drudge has been of the left for several years. I haz confuse.
I thought it was a conservative site. What changed? Did he disparage Dear Leader, God Emperor, King Forever, Trump?
lol I was being flip but that's exactly what happened! Ha ha! If you don't back up Trump as if he's an immortal walking amongst us then you're a leftist! Too funny!
Poor sarc.
Laughing at your own jokes already? Isn't it a little early to be this drunk?
Are you really that dumb?
Drudge sold the thing and the new owners sought to use it as a tool to propagandize his audience using his influence. Thar was quite a long time ago. Drudge no longer has any influence on the right.
That just shows how much I pay attention to what righty-tighties feel to be important.
Not knowing something is ignorant, not dumb. So thank you for curing me of my ignorance of something I never cared about.
You cared enough to make two whole posts about it.
You've got the memory of a goldfish, you fucking cartoon character.
It must've happened between a couple of 40s.
Is that an ICP tune?
Oh, I forgot, 40s are too plebeian for you now. Must've have been somewhere in the middle of a case of Bud Light in your case.
I'm the one who posted a link to Bud Light's barfaliscious campaign you ninny.
Why don’t you GFY and find another hobby
Because annoying you is fun.
Remember, Sarcasmic is only about ideas and mature conversation. He never trolls and shitposts. He's not a mean girl, it's everyone else.
Sarc isn’t exactly a fountain of knowledge. Drudge sold his site and they quickly turned left.
Basically became neocon/left narrative pushers.
Then again. Sarc is largely a neocon.
Not as much as Buttplug, who now posts Kristol articles daily, but he's close.
The Twitter/ substack thing is still missing some information.
If I understand the explanation, it is that they blocked IP addresses because of bulk downloads coming from Substack as they attempt to build a Twitter competitor.
But the complaint from Tiabbi and several other writers was that they could not post links to substack articles. That is not the same thing at all. It isn't even related to blocking access from Substack (as a matter of how links, connectivity, APIs and networking works).
As a matter of policy it makes sense - "you are using our IP in a way that we do not approve and which directly harms us" is certainly reason to block free advertising as a countermeasure designed to move the two companies into a negotiation.
Praising the mob.
https://jonathanturley.org/2023/04/09/sfsu-responds-to-alleged-assault-on-riley-gaines-by-praising-the-protesters/
We previously discussed the disgraceful attack on former swimmer Riley Gaines who was reportedly assaulted when she tried to speak about her views on transgender issues at San Francisco State University (SFSU). Gaines had to be removed to a locked room for hours by police for her own protection. It is now clear why students believed that they had license to engage in such disruptions. SFSU has issued a statement that was conspicuous in its failure to condemn the mob or promise accountability for these actions.
Here is the statement:
Dear SF State community, Today, San Francisco State finds itself again at the center of a national discussion regarding freedom of speech and expression. Let me begin by saying clearly: the trans community is welcome and belongs at San Francisco State University. Further, our community fiercely believes in unity, connection, care and compassion, and we value different ideas, even when they are not our own. SF State is regularly noted as one of the most diverse campuses in the United States—this is what makes us Gators, and this is what makes us great. Diversity promotes critical discussions, new understandings and enriches the academic experience. But we may also find ourselves exposed to divergent views and even views we find personally abhorrent. These encounters have sometimes led to discord, anger, confrontation and fear. We must meet this moment and unite with a shared value of learning.
Thank you to our students who participated peacefully in Thursday evening’s event. It took tremendous bravery to stand in a challenging space. I am proud of the moments where we listened and asked insightful questions. I am also proud of the moments when our students demonstrated the value of free speech and the right to protest peacefully. These issues do not go away, and these values are very much at our core.
This feels difficult because it is difficult. As you reflect, process, and begin to heal, please remember that there are people, resources and services available and ready to receive our Gator community, including faculty, staff members, coaches and mentors who are here to support you.
Campus resources are also available:
1. Equity and Community Inclusion
2. Counseling and Psychological Services
3. Dean of Students Office
The well-being of the SF State campus community remains our priority.
Sincerely,
Jamillah Moore, Ed.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
As you reflect, process, and begin to heal
As scarring as the siege of Khe Sanh.
Not just praising the mob. If it weren't so insidious, you'd almost have to respect the PR skill capitalizing on crisis: "If, after this encounter, you find yourself questioning the intrinsic value of diversity, we encourage you to seek out one of our local re-education centers or to reach out to one of the staff members in charge of operating them."
David Koresh, the KKK, and Donald Trump
Two new books help explain the phenomenon of cult figures.
.
Donald Trump picked Waco, of all places, for the first mass rally of his third bid for the presidency. There, with characteristic unsubtlety, he stood at attention, hand over heart, for an homage to the violence of January 6th, including a song performed by a choir of incarcerated insurrectionists. He assured his audience that “the thugs and criminals who are corrupting our justice system”—by holding Trump to account for his violations of law—“will be defeated, discredited, and totally disgraced.” He intoned, with Koresh-like prognostication, that “2024 is the final battle, it’s going to be the big one. You put me back in the White House, their reign will be over and America will be a free nation once again.”

Not all conservatives are wingnuts.
THE! MOST! IMPORTANT! ELECTION! EVER!
Imagine that. Slimeing an entire city over FBI malfeasance. You guys are really something.
If we're going to deep dive into sophistry, I suppose Democratic politicians shouldn't hold meetings in New York or Chicago because of Tammany Hall and the Chicago Machine.
More interesting (frightening) than Trump's posting "WORLD WAR III" on his Truth Social feed yesterday are the replies from his fans. The replies are mostly memes and have little connection to what he said.
One reply that struck ne was the MAGA loyalist who posted a meme of Donald and Melania with the words "God Bless You!" Not only was the reply disconnected from what Trump had posted, it was also oblivious to reports that Melania is majorly pissed at Donald. It is a hermetically-sealed, thought-free world of Trump adoration, grievance collection and repetition of the victimhood narrative.
"it was also oblivious to reports that Melania is majorly pissed at Donald."
Shame on them not citing gossip!
If you are going to post memes idolizing Donald and Melania, yes, maybe you should be aware of what is actually going on in Donald and Melania world.
How do you know?
"Reports"? By whom? Names. Who near them has said it?
Oh, anonymous sources. Trustworthy as they have been for the last 6 or so years, anonymous sources providing utterly uncorroborated information does not seem like an insight into anything.
Sources close to you say that you routinely steal from the poor. HOW COULD YOU?
Note: I have as much evidence as you do of Melania's feelings towards Donald.
Most glaring, widely reported, impossible-to-refute-it-really-happened evidence is that she was absent from Trump’s post-indictment speech: absent in attending and absent in his mentioning her despite his mention of all other family members.
And Trump also made no mention of his favorite golfing courses in that same speech. Does that mean he's hated golf this whole time? That's the logic you're using.
"oblivious to reports that Melania is majorly pissed at Donald...
maybe you should be aware of what is actually going on in Donald and Melania world."
Sometimes I wonder if Mike even reads what he's posting.
Anyway, what are the odds Mike really has an inside track to the internal going-ons at the Trump household?
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Compromising a President.
https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/19539/does-this-compromise-biden
Let me break this out in a couple of phases. First of all, what is the actual commercial relationship between the Biden family and the Chinese? Second of all, what are the implications of it? This is a commercial relationship that not only has made the Bidens money. It has advanced the strategic and military interests of the Chinese government itself.
What are the relationships? The first one is a private equity arrangement or deal that Hunter Biden has with the Chinese government itself. This is a deal that began and was finalized in December of 2013. It led to the creation of something called Bohai Harvest RST or BHR Partners.
Essentially, the Chinese government poured in a billion dollars. They later expanded that to a-billion-and-a-half dollars for BHR, a private equity investment firm. One of the partnering firms that created BHR was Hunter Biden's firm, Rosemont Seneca Partners.
Why is this interesting? This is a nuclear energy firm that about eight months after Hunter Biden's BHR becomes an anchor investor, they are charged by the FBI in the United States.
That firm was stealing nuclear secrets in the United States. In particular, CGN is trying to gain technologies related to the small nuclear reactors that are put on submarines, which provide a huge military advantage to the United States.
The Secret Service has the travel logs of where Hunter Biden went. Remember, they said BHR was set up in June of 2013? Where was Hunter Biden in June of 2013? He was in Beijing, China.
Let's be honest about it. If Donald Trump Jr. flew over on Air Force One to Beijing, China with his father and got a billion‑and‑a‑half‑dollar deal, let's say in the energy sector, where he has no experience, the mainstream media would be all over that story.
Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who argues that it is unfair for transgender women to compete against cisgender women, said last week that she faced violence when speaking at San Francisco State University (SFSU).
The lunatic screaming "trans rights are human rights" over and over reminds me of someone. Does anyone remember Trigglypuff?
"Trans rights are human rights"
I am male. I am human. I do not expect to have a right to into female designated spaces and I do not feel any less human because of it.
I have no idea what they are going on about.
This argument has been going on for over 2000 years.
Comedy becomes reality.
from now on, I want you all to call me Loretta.
You got it, Loretta!
It's symbolic of your struggle against reality...
Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman But she was another man All the girls around her say she's got it coming But she gets it while she can
Dude looks like a lady.
Pretty standard libertarian position is adults have a right to choose what they want to do with their life, even if it’s what you might consider a bad choice on their part.
Except refuse vaccines.
shame this isn't accepted by the militants.
Yes, it is.
No, it really is not.
They just held Riley Gaines hostage because they dislike her message that women should compete against ACTUAL women (else, why have women sports AT ALL?)
I meant “Yes, I agree it is a shame.”
Sorry, I can see how you must have read my comment as, “Yes, it is accepted by the militants.”
That's why they attacked her, right?
Nobody cares what trannies do.
When they demand OTHERS accomodate them is when problems arise.
You need to tell that to Mickey Rat.
Mickey Rat isn't supporting the idea that we accommodate for trannies, that's the problem with your statement. You on the other hand, are defending their nonsense.
No. That is in no way a libertarian position. The libertarian position is so what you want as long as it doesn’t infringe on others rights
Your rights end where my nose begins.
"...This led to a series of reports, the Twitter Files, that helped explain why Twitter's previous regime had decided to suppress various accounts believed to be part of a Russian influence campaign...."
Biden's laptop has to do with supposed "Russian influence" exactly how?
>>Twitter's previous regime had decided to suppress various accounts believed to be part of a Russian influence campaign
5% honest reporting is honest reporting but still ...
Musk's treatment of Substack is a self-sabotaging betrayal of his principles
Where is the disclaimer that Twitter is a private company, and of course, Musk can do whatever he wants? At this point the commentariat is the only thing keeping this place libertarian.
What is "Something that doesn't always need to be stated?", Alex.
....yet it always was.
yawn
Whenever Mike dismissively posts "Yawn", you know he's just seething with rage.
Every time Reason reported about any kind of coordination of censoership between Twitter and the federal government, even when it wasin response to THREATS FROM THE SENATE, Reason always added a smug "to be sure, it's a private company and they can do waht they want, including coordinating your censorship from the feds"
LOL mike laursen strikes again with his fedposting bullshit
To be fair and to be sure?
Musk’s treatment of Substack is a self-sabotaging betrayal of his principles
Musk NEVER claimed he wouldn't compete with other online media. WTF is this?
She's mad because he made her look stupid for defending Twitter censorship with "Muh private company", and losing her blue check. So don't expect rationality or honesty out of her.

somebody explain how the "I've always been a woman I was just born with boyparts" and "Bud Light is celebrating my anniversary of becoming a woman" schools are the same please&thankyou
I'm a bit surprised feminists are not more irritated that the tranny du jour has been mocking women for the past year.
Hiking in high heels? Seriously?
You think modern feminists are going to talk badly about a transgender "female"?
They're happily giving away all the gains their foremothers earned.
Maybe they have been, and they just haven't gotten any coverage in the media.

A Texas man bragged about stealing $50,000 from a Mexican drug cartel , two hours later he was kidnapped and taken into Nuevo Laredo , Mexico , the man is still missing according to the FBI @NewsNation
[Link]
I'd be more scared of fucking with the cartels than with the federal government to be honest.
"the man is still missing according to the FBI"
He and everyone he loves is dead.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Why do leftists support security state censorship and Pentagon spending that is unaudited and impossible to money trail? Perhaps cash is still flowing to leftist districts or its reverse Flynn or a combination of:

I have developed a great affinity for both Taibbi and Musk over the past months/years. I would like to see how this plays out before expressing an opinion. Sometimes good people can have conflicting interests. Both of these players are Really, Really important in the war against globalism and American totalitarianism, so if I can't resolve their dispute in my mind, I'll focus on their other attributes. We cannot afford to jettison our friends in this battle for the future of humanity. Any of them.
Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who argues that it is unfair for transgender women to compete against cisgender women, said last week that she faced violence when speaking at San Francisco State University (SFSU).
The trannies are the primary source of violence intimidation and terrorism in america today.
And the journalism class is running cover for them, even here, with mealy mouthed phrasing like "she said" instead of SHE WAS.

Transgender Martyrs Brigade.
The move to now list the tranny who shot up that school as one of the victims is deplorable.
Musk's treatment of Substack is a self-sabotaging betrayal of his principles
LOL yeah this is JUST as bad as coordinating mass censorship secretly with government actors.
Reason, you are amazing.
"Reason, you are amazing."
You misspelled "disgusting".
Twitter is now labeling NPR as "government funded" rather than "state affiliated."
It's too bad to see Twitter back down to the outraged whining of the journalism class which is little more than a branch of the regime ta this point..
"State affiliated" is a perfectly accurate description of NPR
What happens if Gov. DeSantis decides to wait for 2028 only to find that Donald Trump has again decided to run having been cheated in both 2020 and 2024? Trump is raking in the cash and might just decide to run every four years for the money and attention. Will any Republican candidate take on Trump in 2028 or will they let him pass like in the 2024 cycle?
Trump, at his current advanced age and continual stressed-out-to-the-max level, is very likely to have a heart attack or stroke long before 2028.
Cite?
Yeah, what with the current Weekend at Bernie's president you're covering for, Mike, your concern about Trump's heart seems a little disingenuous.

A Florida teacher was fired after giving his students a crazy assignment: He told them to write their own obituaries in the event of a mass shooting.
Public teacher.
This guardian article about it is just an amazing example of regime agitprop, a Pravda-esque rendition of the story using every opportnity to push regime values
Keene’s dismissal once again has cast a spotlight on the persistently bizarre decisions within the public education system of Florida, which has banned discussions of gender and sexual identity in classrooms but whose Republican extremist governor, Ron DeSantis, staunchly supports keeping the guns which help fuel school shootings across the country as accessible as possible.
Oh, I see.
I love how these mass shootings occur in gun free zones almost exclusively, so the plan is to create MORE gun-free zones.
Government teacher.
That wasn't what he got canned for--he asked them to write the obituary the same day the school had scheduled a mass shooting drill, not "in the event of a mass shooting."
Bear in mind, this that was pretty standard assignment in English Composition classes for years, if not decades, mainly because it's an easy way to get students 1) thinking about their future and the legacy they want to leave, and 2) learning how to form a broad, coherent essay on a single topic that they're relatively familiar with. The fact the teacher got fired for not having a lot of situational awareness is dumb, but not nearly as dumb as the radical left blaming this all on DeSantis.
Worse than 9/11.
DOJ admits that of the 13 Proud Boys involved with J6, eight or more of them were paid by the FBI to provide the government information about the group. The FBI was the majority of Proud Boys – only 5 are being prosecuted.
Even worse, the DoJ now admits that another 40 undercover agents were with the Proud Boys on J6 – from Homeland Security Investigations. The vast majority of the group was paid by the government as either W2 employees or CHS.
The Proud Boys were outnumbered 10-1 by undercover government agents and informants at the Capitol. More than 50 government assets goaded, cheered, and incited the five Proud Boys on trial. The government wasn’t worried they would take over the Capitol.

Don't forget, the FBI also had one of the Proud Boy defense attorneys on their payroll as well.
Just one?
One that we know of. Though one alone is a violation of civil rights.
But the Woke hate Substack, so are they now allied with Musk? So confusing.
You are indeed so confusing to yourself.

On the contrary, Robby has made significant reports on the Twitter Files. They have provided irrefutable proof of the government's involvement of making Twitter employees censor dissenting voices, including the New York Post's Hunter Biden story, which the New York Times later admitted was authentic.
