Reporter was "pursuing a potential follow-up story" after earlier negative reporting on the official. An elected official in Las Vegas has been arrested in conjunction with the murder of Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter Jeff German, who was stabbed to death outside of his Las Vegas home last weekend.

A longtime reporter for the Review-Journal, German had "made a career of breaking big stories about everything from organized crime and government malfeasance to political scandals," as the paper describes it.

One of the subjects of German's reporting was Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, who has now been arrested as a suspect in German's death.

The public administrator's office was "mired in turmoil and internal dissension," wrote German in May. "A half-dozen current and former employees interviewed by the Review-Journal are alleging the hostile work environment was fueled by the elected administrator of the office, Robert Telles, carrying on an 'inappropriate relationship' with a staffer that has harmed the office's ability to deal with the public in overseeing the estates of those who have died."

Telles, a Democrat, went on to lose his primary race for public administrator in June. His current term ends January 2023.

In a June letter posted to his campaign website, Telles "attacked the Review-Journal and its reporting and claimed the allegations against [him] were false," German reported at the time. The letter "also leveled what the employees allege was a threat to retaliate against them for stepping forward."

Telles lashed out at German on Twitter, too:

https://twitter.com/RobTellesLV/status/1537834502315073537

Former Public Administrator John Cahill told German in June that Telles was "ethically challenged."

On Wednesday, the Review-Journal's executive editor, Glenn Cook, said the paper's staff were "relieved Robert Telles is in custody and outraged that a colleague appears to have been killed for reporting on an elected official."

German worked at the Review-Journal since 2010, coming there after two decades with the Las Vegas Sun.

At the time of his death, German "was pursuing a potential follow-up story about Telles in the weeks before he was killed," the Review-Journal reported today.

Telles' arrest came after police asked the public for help in identifying German's killer. "Police on Tuesday showed a brief video of a possible suspect walking on a sidewalk clad in bright orange 'construction attire' and distributed a photo of a distinctive red or maroon GMC Yukon Denali SUV with chrome handles, a sunroof and a luggage rack, saying it may have been linked to the case," notes the Associated Press. "Telles was seen in newspaper photos washing a similar vehicle parked in his driveway on Tuesday, and KTNV-TV reported the vehicle was towed away after police arrived on Wednesday."

The college wage premium has *falllen* over the last two years, as my new work with David Autor shows. Here is a sneak peek.

A new paper looks at how access to guns helped decrease violence against black Americans in the Jim Crow south. The paper—to be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Law and Economics—comes from Mike Makowsky and Patrick Warren, two associate professors of economics at Clemson University. "Greater access to firearms in the Black community reduced the rate of lynching in the Jim Crow South," Makowsky summed up the results on Twitter. "In a context where you are excluded from the institutions of governance and public safety, where terrorism against you is condoned, the tools of self-defense matter."

"The more subtle result, though, is this: public policy and law is about more than the words on paper. It's about the institutions and mechanisms of enforcement," Makowsky added. "Firearms restrictions, from the 19th and early 20th centuries, were designed for Black disarmament, but they weren't *written* for Black disarmament. They didn't have to be. They understood that the enforcement institutions would ensure the laws would work as intended."

"When advocating, designing, and voting for public policies, we would do well to consider the prospect [of] unintended [consequences] created by the *precise intentions* of those enforcing them," he concluded.

Notice that it took four full paragraphs before we learned the guy was a Democrat. If he'd been a Republican, we'd have learned in the first paragraph.

He's just recruiting a new voter. No doubt that the reporter will vote D from now on. On a side note, I don't recall any republican, independent, or libertarian politicians murdering a journalist.

OMG, and ENB totally put a photo of the guy, which she wouldn’t have done if it he weren’t a he, and white.

            3. Mike Laursen   3 years ago

How’s that Victimhood Narrative doing today.

              1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   3 years ago

Says the rep of the party that invented and Institutionalized victimhood.

              2. InsaneTrollLogic   3 years ago

What "victimhood"? Making an observation about someone (ENB) known to be biased is hardly a "victimhood narrative".

                1. Mike Laursen   3 years ago

Yeah, pretty powerful observation. She mentions the guys party in the fourth paragraph instead of the first. You compare that to some imaginary ENB blog post in your head where she mentions a Republican’s party affiliation earlier than the fourth paragraph.

That’s not an objective observation. Half of it is based on your conjecture.

And it’s all calculated to make Republicans come out as the victims of ENB’s anti-Republican bias.

                  1. InsaneTrollLogic   3 years ago

ENB's made it pretty clear in the past that she's a progressive Democrat in all but name. Somehow you missed that conversation.

                    1. Mike Laursen   3 years ago

That is ridiculous. She has consistently presented a libertarian point of view, which makes sense since she is writing for a libertarian magazine.

                    2. Mother's Lament   3 years ago

                      1. You're lying. Just because someone is cool with hookers and blow, doesn't make them libertarian. Especially when they don't give a toss about censorship.

                      2. Your party has made victimization its platform. CRT, transgender, LGBTQQWTFBBQ, ect. Your AOC just gave an interview about how she's being oppressed by absolutely everything.

Leftists will always defend their media. It's revealing that calling it victimhood is the best defense they can come up with. It's an admission they have no defense on the merits.

Perhaps if you stopped victimhood whining the level of victimhood whining could be brought back down to manageable levels.

      3. Hank Ferrous   3 years ago

There's nothing like a demonstration of how the media view themselves compared to other people. As Gaear says, this story is too local for any mention, but ENB devotes half of the day's print space to it. There were other people murdered, and quite frankly, they were more important because they were not journalists.

    2. Aloysious   3 years ago

Would like to see the political demographics of STEM grads.

        1. Octavio Feltmann   3 years ago

Mostly hard-left, just like every other college major. You retards still think it's 1962 and all engineers, chemists, medical doctors, and computer programmers are suburban, white, male, top quintile, and Republican. Which wasn't even true in 1962. Hate to break it to you, but the STEM buildings are on the same campus as the rest of the university and subject to all of the same social and political pressures. Most of the "STEM" grads being churned out now are blue haired affirmative action grrrl power morons and racial minorities who will spend 6 years getting an undergrad degree to eventually work for about median wages as graphic designers, WordPress website maintainers, help desk monkeys installing toner cartridges when some boomer can't figure out why the printer isn't working, or for the particularly ambitious ones, sysadmin. Your autistic super sekret klub is no longer autistic or sekret.

          1. Claptrap   3 years ago

It's my experience that the boomers have no problem checking the toner, wires, and paper while waiting for your friendly neighborhood helpdesk monkey to escalate the ticket to the server team because that's the only way to troubleshoot the problem from Quezon City.

      3. MatthewSlyfield   3 years ago

Yes, I would like to see this with grievance/identity group studies and other degrees with only academic career paths broken out in separate categories.

        1. Mike Laursen   3 years ago

          It would be quite enlightening.

Apparently less than 0 as high school graduates are doing better relatively. But you CSEE's are notoriously bad at math as they can't handle the mathematics for a standard engineering degree- ME,CE, ChemE, etc. And many Engineering schools now require working for at least a semester before graduation. You are a sad person Liarson and what reason should we believe anything you say about your alleged education. We see no evidence here.

Left wingers like to pretend Trump failed some universal standard of honesty or evidence, but in truth they routinely accepted and repeated assertions without evidence as long as they supported Dems or the left generally. Trump was not an outlier, they simply object to his adopting their own tactics.

That article was something else--this chick is just completely broken. She's gone all-in on the "Everything is political, so you better have the exact same political opinions as me or you're a shit person" Leninist/Marcusian stance. She talked about how her parents will completely ignore her political rant texts, until she finally gives up and sends them a picture of her kid just to get *some* kind of interaction from them. Or how her political beliefs changed because of some throwaway line from a TV character that, tellingly, was consistently portrayed as being overly self-righteous and hyper-neurotic.

The Tucker Carlson part was hilarious because, first off, why is she watching him in the first place other than to get herself worked up for no reason, and secondly, I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of those "I want to get pounded by a Republican" situations like what DefiantLs posted on Twitter.

    https://thefederalist.com/2022/09/06/special-master-order-reveals-bidens-direct-involvement-in-trump-raid-and-six-other-bombshells/

But then, as Cannon wrote, after obtaining a short delay, on May 10, 2022, NARA informed Trump it would proceed with “provid[ing] the FBI access to the records in question, as requested by the incumbent President, beginning as early as Thursday, May 12, 2022.”

While the media has previously highlighted those aspects of the letter, Monday’s order highlighted a key sentence in that same letter that went less noticed by the press: “NARA will provide the FBI access to the records in question, as requested by the incumbent President, beginning as early as Thursday, May 12, 2022” (emphasis added).

      1. JesseAz   3 years ago

I should also note that this is the first time a president has waived executive privilege for the prior president. All presidents prior have not gone this route. Most constitutional scholarships believe a president can not waive a prior presidents privilege claims as it makes the claims useless.

The judge currently overseeing the Meadows J6 testimony case is also exasperated as they have to make a decision on privilege in that case due to Biden seemingly waiving it.

This will go to the USSC.

        1. InsaneTrollLogic   3 years ago

Even Nixon got executive privilege (much to the chagrin of Democrats at the time) after all that had happened with Watergate and the resignation. Biden has gone lower than any of his 45 predecessors with this.

        2. Derp-o-Matic 6000   3 years ago

Absolutely it will. The privilege issue is, at best, murky. All past presidents have respected it, but the Biden administration is using an unsettled area of Constitutional law to criminalize his opposition. We saw the same thing happen during the January 6 kangaroo courts. A former Trump official (I think it was Steve Bannon, but might have been someone else) had been subpoenaed for documents that Trump was asserting privilege over. Bannon (or whoever) wanted to go to court to determine whether the privilege claim was valid and said they'd give the documents over if not, and instead, Biden's DOJ pursued criminal contempt charges.

"Gasoline is the most used transportation fuel in California, with ninety seven percent of all gasoline being consumed by light-duty cars, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles. In 2015, 15.1 billion gallons of gasoline were sold, according to the State Board of Equalization."

    Today in libertarian commentary.

How to take on the new puritans
We cannot shy away from fighting the culture war.

My new book is about intolerance. I am fascinated by those who prefer only to associate with people who share their own identical worldview, and who interpret the slightest point of political disagreement as evidence of evil. The new religion of group identity and ‘social justice’ has driven once rational people into a state of frenzied bigotry. I want to understand why.

So, back in May, when I announced I was working on a book called The New Puritans, I wasn’t all that surprised to see so many self-proclaimed advocates of ‘social justice’ rush to demonstrate the very phenomenon that I was attempting to explore. Some suggested that they would acquire copies only to burn them. One said that he intended to kick it under the bookshop shelf ‘so that it could rot in darkness’. Another simply declared that I was ‘pure scum’. Were any of these people aware that they were proving my point?

    1. Red Rocks White Privilege   3 years ago

The fact that these people see any pushback against their agenda as a slide towards fascism is what makes them so obnoxious, not to mention dangerous for society as a whole. It's a lot easier to understand them when you look at them as religious zealots, with their own dogmas, prophets, and sacred books, who are evangelizing an ideology of utopian apocalyptism--one which will never actually be reached, because their whole persona revolves around criticizing "the current system" to "make a better one." That's why they never get very specific on what the end state of their revolution is supposed to accomplish, because anything they get from their demands immediately becomes the status quo, and then THAT has to undergo the dialectic inquisition, and so on.

It's a nihilistic, entitled worldview that hollows out any institution it worms its way in to, and renders it useless. That's why these people positively view their ideology as a virus. A strong immune system will eventually kill a virus, but a weak one is killed by it. The results of the infection are either recovery from the virus, or death.

Blow up on committee over amendments foe JCPA shows bill was intended to allow government censorship from the media cartel.

The committee moved towards amendments to the bill, in which Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) proposed an amendment that would ensure negotiations between internet platforms and media outlets cannot discuss censorship.
    .
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), an advocate for the JCPA, said he would approve of the amendment, which led to confusion between him and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). The confusion led to a delay on the bill.
    .
Klobuchar said, “Senator Kennedy, we’ve worked on this for months, we won’t be able to support the Cruz amendment here.”
    .
Klobuchar added they will delay a vote on the bill until another Judiciary Committee hearing because Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) was not at the meeting to vote on the amendments.

Reason has yet to run a story about Daniel Perry being forced to defend himself against murder charges brought by a liberal DA when the police investigation determined his shooting of Garrett Foster was self-defense. Is that because they eulogized the protester that got himself ventilated for pointing a loaded rifle at an Uber driver who was trying to his job when he got trapped in Foster's unpermitted-march/illegal-traffic-blockade?

The Nuremburg laws were not passed until September of 1935 and until Kristallnacht in 1938, most of the world had no idea how bad it had gotten for Jews inside Germany. Add to that the fact that Germany was adamantly anti-communist and the crimes and ambitions of Stalin were already well known.

Based on what Edward knew about Nazi Germany in 1936 and what can be understood right now today about the Green Agenda, sympathizing with Hitler before his invasion of Europe is much more intelligent than knowingly committing to actions that will undoubtedly lead to millions of people without reliable heat during winter in the UK and across Europe.

Edward was living in France, an entire nation that had no inclination that Germany would invade within a few years. You can argue about whether Edward was stupid, ignorant, or naïve, but King Charles has no excuse. He has access to far more information than the rest of us normals.

                I’ll admit I was wrong.

Various world leaders had visited Germany recently, so it wasn’t unprecedented.

I’m sure Edward was aware of some of the persecution of Jews, but that probably didn’t concern him.

The French and Germans hated each other at that point, so I don’t see why him living in France would make him unaware of what Germany was doing.

Your comparison is still stupid. Your church causes far more harm than any one powerful climate activist.

          Fuck them all!

Queen Elizabeth II's death is a perfect time for the British Parliament to tell the Royal Family: "Look! You've got 10 years to get your financial shit straight, then we're cutting the welfare spigot off! And ditto goes for the rest of the population! The Yanks across the pond are in financial trouble and we will be soon too! So Root, Hog, or Die, Chuckie, Cammie, Fergie, Willie, Katie, Meggie, Harry, all ya'll silver-spooned Welfare Queens!

Oh, and Fuck Off to both Watermelon and Beefsteak Tyrants! Edward the Turd Plus 5 and Chuckie the Tampon both need a good flushing in the Shithouse of History!

I'll be cold in the ground before I give a shit about the descendants of George the Tyrant.

LOL! Was my comment not mockery enough for you? I am sure I could come up with a joke about syphilis being a requirement for ascending to the throne.

The Redcoats lost because their battle cry was: "Three Cheers for Our Squishy, Inbred Monarch!" 🙂

Didn't we fight a war for the purpose of not giving a crap what the royal family says/wants?

      1. InsaneTrollLogic   3 years ago

Yes, and Parliament too, but only George III made it into the finished Declaration. Any references to Parliament were removed by the committee of the whole.

"In February 2020, Kelly, then 17, was charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, using a firearm to commit a dangerous felony and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, court records show.

Records show he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced in April 2021 to three years. Kelly was released from prison in March, 11 months after he was sentenced, the mayor said. Given the time he spent awaiting a resolution of his charges, he likely got credit for time served and spent more than two years behind bars."

No wonder the Shelby County prosecutor let him out early. He's just a youth and his brain isn't fully formed. Just ask Mayor Bowser and the D.C. City Council.

Don't blame Ukraine for Europeans being too stupid to drill for their own fuel and build more nuke plants.

And don't forget none of this would be happening if Putin didn't have aspirations for a New Eurasian Empire blessed by Alexandr Dugin and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill and their shared psycho Sky-Father from The Holy Bible.

    Fuck Off, Putineer!

That will be a speedbump in this country. There will be very few Ultra-Super-Duper-MAGA'S that don't have protection.

How could Germany reconquer anything without it's own fuel? And how can Russia conquer anything when Putin eventually gets a bullet in his basal ganglia lizard brain, either from one of his underlings or himself?

    Fuck Off, Putineer!
