Election Day 2019 Was Bad for Republicans. But Is It Really All Trump's Fault?
Plus: A ranked-choice voting win, a scheduled execution in Georgia, Twitter wavers on political issue ad ban, and more...

Libertarians "happy to split the vote" in Kentucky governor race. "We are always happy to split the vote in a way that causes delicious tears," the Libertarian Party (L.P.) of Kentucky posted to Facebook on Tuesday. "Tonight there are plenty of delicious tears from [Republican Gov. Matt] Bevin supporters."
While off-year elections are always a bit underwhelming, there was still some drama—and a little good news—to come out of Election Day 2019. The biggest story has been from Kentucky, where Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andy Beshear appears to have unseated incumbent Gov. Bevin.
The loss may not stick—Bevin was just 5,189 votes shy of Beshear with all precincts reporting, and is currently refusing to concede the race even after Beshear declared victory.
The Libertarian Party candidate for governor, John Hicks, received 28,426 votes—far exceeding the margin of difference between the other two candidates.
Bevin was enthusiastically backed by the national GOP and President Donald Trump (who held a big rally in Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday). That he lost anyway has been greeted by many in national news and punditry as an ominous sign for Trump and Trump-style Republicans.
But Gov. Bevin was strongly disliked by Kentuckians, as many from the area have pointed out. (Read, for instance, the Kentucky L.P.'s thoughts on Bevin here.) And polls showed a pretty even split for Bevin and Beshear before the impeachment investigation into Trump even began.
"The Kentucky gov results are almost entirely self-inflicted," suggests the Cato Institute's Caleb Brown, who lives in Kentucky. "That Trump couldn't fix it (despite his popularity in Kentucky) is the (mostly local) story."
Despite the spin from national Republicans and Democrats alike, Kentucky's gubernatorial race results can likely be explained by a controversial and disliked local leader, rather than some sort of downstream referendum on Trump, his administration, or the House impeachment inquiry.

Across the state, Kentucky Republicans did OK: Daniel Cameron won the race for attorney general, Michael Adams was elected secretary of state, and Ryan Quarles was elected state agriculture commissioner.
A few more notable results from yesterday's voting:
New York City residents approve ranked-choice voting. "The new system, which passed with overwhelming support, will let people rank up to five candidates in order of preference, rather than picking just one to support," reports the Associated Press. "Other places, including Maine and San Francisco, already use ranked-choice voting systems, but New York City would be employing the system on a far larger scale, with millions more votes to count." The new system is supposed to start in select races in 2021.
Virginia goes (even more) blue. With yesterday's wins, Democrats will now control both houses of Virginia's General Assembly. "Democrats flipped at least two seats in the state Senate and at least five in the House of Delegates to take majorities in both," reports The Washington Post. Currently, the governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general of Virginia—a reliably red state from midcentury until the Obama era—are all Democrats, as are both U.S. senators from Virginia and a majority of Virginians in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Twitter wavers on political issue ad ban. Following complaints from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.) and other politicians about Facebook's decision on political videos, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced last week that his company would ban both paid advertising by political candidates and ads addressing political issues. A lot of progressives cheered. But now, Warren and some of her acolytes have realized that this crackdown would also ensnare ads about issues they like. And just like that, Dorsey suggested that actually, the issue ad ban wasn't a done deal at all.

If Dorsey's comment signals hesitation about the issue ad ban altogether, good. But the fact that his comments come in direct response to Warren's complaints (and those echoing her) isn't the most reassuring sign.
In any event, it will be interesting to see how Dorsey's team deals with defining political issues. Doing it in a way that somehow gives progressive causes a pass is obviously no solution, but anything short of that seems unlikely to appease certain Democratic contingents, who—like their counterparts on the right, but with different threats—wield the specter of regulation and criminal investigation against social media platforms that fail to do their bidding.
Twitter's new ad policy will allow fossil fuel companies to buy ads defending themselves and spreading misleading info—but won't allow organizations fighting the climate crisis to buy ads holding those companies accountable. We need accountability. https://t.co/B9RtX7hC5g

No, the president's constitutional rights aren't being denied. Julian Sanchez of the Cato Institute throws some reality on the Trump talking point about how the president's lawyers should be able to confront the whistleblower directly and be present during House impeachment inquiry interviews or else the proceedings are unfair and unconstitutional.
So, the obvious reason this is dumb is that the 6th Amendment only applies at criminal trials. But also: it's extremely common at criminal trials for the prosecution not to call witnesses whose testimony is not necessary as evidence. https://t.co/Le8xKmhmCO
— Julian Sanchez (@normative) November 5, 2019
If we want to continue humoring the analogy, the "right to confront" Trumpsters are demanding would be the equivalent of insisting that police provide criminal suspects with the identity of every informant police are speaking to, while the investigation is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Gordon D. Sondland, U.S. ambassador to the European Union, has updated his testimony about President Donald Trump's discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In the additional four pages of testimony, released Tuesday, Sondland recalled that, in fact, he did directly tell a high-level Ukrainian official that U.S. aid could be contingent on public commitment to the investigation sought by Trump.

Libertarians "happy to split the vote" in Kentucky governor race.
SPOILER ALERT
""We are always happy to split the vote in a way that causes delicious tears," the Libertarian Party (LP) of Kentucky posted to Facebook on Tuesday. "Tonight there are plenty of delicious tears from [Republican Gov. Matt] Bevin supporters.""
No wonder the LP never wins
I'm sure lots of Kentucky Republicans defected to the party of open borders, limitless welfare, carbon taxes, war in Syria, compulsory gay wedding cakes and tranny story hour.
I'm sure a lot of them sat at home not voting.
It appears bigotry and slack-jawed backwardness don't work as well as they once did, even in Kentucky.
Carry on, clingers.
I see the power is back on in california.
+100000000000000
I'm just gonna leave this here
http://www.zerohedge.com/political/trump-jr-outs-cia-whistleblower-over-twitter
Funny, I heard zero mention of the Libertarian KY candidate on the “respectable” media outlets
They were mentioned in newsweek this morning.
He said "respectable."
I know, I hate newsweek too. But you gotta check them and usa today out occasionally to understand what most Americans are seeing in the news.
But No one reads Newsweek these days. It was purchased by the frigging daily beast.
I see it posted quite a bit on aggregators and other social media.
Which doesn't necessarily mean that people are reading the content.
Hello.
'Powerful' messages ain't what they used to be.
What was said that hasn't already for years?
The Libertarian Party (LP) candidate for governor, John Hicks, received 28,426 votes—far exceeding the margin of difference between the other two candidates.
But how many Republicans stayed home? Way more than 5,190, I'll wager. Probably way more than 28,426. But keep telling yourselves that it's the Libertarians' fault.
The turnout was alot higher compared to the last time Kentucky elected a governor so I'm not really sure where y'all are getting "Republicans stayed home" from.
The voter turnout is being reported at 42%. More than previously (31%) but less than half. Where do you suppose that 58% was? Obviously not at the polls.
Yeah I get you now.
Given that the Democrats are publicly against most civil liberties like free speech and bearing arms these days, how is a Democrat winning the governorship a victory for liberty, rather than just a bit of petty partisan spite for the Libertarian Party against the GOP?
You figure Republicans are the force for civil liberties in America?
You not only deserve to lose the culture war, but also deserve to be stomped toward political irrelevance.
Have your jackboots ready for that stomping of your inferiors, eh?
Relative to the Democrats? Certainly.
Which is what we are talking about here, since the Kentucky LP is crowing about making the GOP lose, not about winning themselves.
Trump, the moral and actual leader of the GOP, has made public statements contradicting both 1a and 2a. I do not see republicans as any better on civil liberties than dems, anymore.
I do not see republicans as any better on civil liberties than dems, anymore.
LOL, seriously! Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
Just more hate speech from you.
https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/376097-trump-take-the-guns-first-go-through-due-process-second
“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.
ENB is just regurgitating the NYT at this point. Gop won every Ky election easily sans governor who was not liked at all in the state due to his own actions. He was expected to lose by 3-4% just 2 months ago. The fact that it was by only 4000 votes says something. He was the target of red for ed and not well liked due to his own state actions.
If this was truly a referendum as ENB is desperate to make it, down ballot would have also lost a few seats, they didnt.
Dont worry ENB. Soon you'll get that coveted spot at Wapo or elsewhere.
Lefties always downplay loses and inconsequential elections and play up inconsequential wins.
Kentucky Governor is a good win for the Democrats. It is not some fantastic grab for Democrats where this means that they will keep Trump from being reelected. It was a close race, where tens of thousands of voters didnt vote, and Republican governors dont get reelected in Kentucky for some reason.
The GOP only needs a few more state legislatures and Governors to convene an Article V Constitutional Convention and amend the US Constitution.
Yeah, they're well on their way after losing big in 2018 and losing VA entirely last night huh lc?
Losing the historical average apparently is the new "losing big" when it benefits Democrats. Meanwhile, the Reps still control the Senate and the Dems were BTFO across both federal and state offices during Obama's tenure.
The GOP gained seats in the US Senate which has allowed Trump to continue to get federal judges appointed and stop all the nonsense coming from the House.
It's a loss for Republicans somehow.
GOP gaining seats in the US Senate is losing now?
I just know that YOU and the other Lefty trolls will never admit being wrong on anything.
You poor trolls.
"Despite the spin from national Republicans and Democrats alike, Kentucky's gubernatorial race results can likely be explained by a controversial and disliked local leader, rather than some sort of downstream referendum on Trump, his administration, or the House impeachment inquiry."
ENB said exactly what you said, that the result in the governor's race was that the R candidate was personally disliked by Kentuckians. She's doing the opposite of desperately trying to make it a referendum on Trump. Can't understand why you think otherwise.
Victimhood is a helluva drug.
Did you read what she said? She said that it isn't a referendum. You are actually agreeing with her.
I think you may have forgotten to actually read the post.
Is this some kind of trolling act?
Almost every article has a comment by you where you accuse the writer of saying the exact opposite of what they actually said
I was referring to the headline and the assertion from it.
Nice new sock.
I was referring to the headline and the assertion from it.
I take it your new Jump To Conclusions mat came in?
I find it interesting to look at the other Libertarian Party candidates on the KY ballot.
Auditor - Hugenberg, Kyle 46,549 votes
Agriculture Commissioner - Gilpin, Josh 44,586 votes
Governor - Hicks, John 28,426 votes
Seems many LP voters defected to another candidate. I suppose it's splitting the vote but it's splitting it away from the LP and it strikes me as something stupid for the LP to be happy for and facebooking about.
My ballot had only one race on it - for school board - and there was only one name on it. I wrote in my dog.
It would be funny if some technicality caused the winner to be invalid and your dog won.
Threw away his vote but his dog fetched it back.
Ha
His dog would do a better job, I'm sure.
IIRC, once a toothpaste brand won in a Mexican mayoral race.
Then it was murdered by cartel hitmen
First they put the squeeze on it.
Well played.
Ok, I was going to play back at this, but after thinking of a few lines, I no longer want to be involved
Can't think of a Mexican toothpaste joke that doesn't include a reference to "whiter"?
What?
They sent in a cleaner brand?
It was recommended by 9 out of 10 dentists.
I was shocked Tucson strongly voted down the ballot sanctuary city ordnance. apparently even democrats dont want that shit.
They will "be a sanctuary city in all but official status".
As you said, voters know what it means to classify your city a "Sanctuary City" and dont want it.
Drumpf has shown that voting for Republicans means voting for a ruined economy, a disastrous foreign policy, and domestic concentration camps in which people are literally forced to drink from toilets. It's no wonder 2019's election was a #BlueWave just like 2018's.
#Resist
The new system, which passed with overwhelming support, will let people rank up to five candidates in order of preference...
Bevin wins!
Don't you mean Beavis?
...Kentucky's gubernatorial race results can likely be explained by a controversial and disliked local leader, rather than some sort of downstream referendum on Trump, his administration, or the House impeachment inquiry.
What does it say for the 2020 election if the president can't polish a turd?
To be fair, Bevin was trailing by as much as 10 points in polling. Maybe he was polished up a bit, but not enough to win.
the nation's first trans lawmaker becomes the nation's first trans lawmaker to be re-elected to office.
OK. When will sufficient, um, equality be achieved so that events like this are not news?
Probably around when the first Republican trans lawmaker is reelected.
When there's a Dem president.

It's like "social justice". You wouldn't understand.
Social justice is easy to understand, just study the ideas and rhetoric of:

Black Panthers
Weather Underground
KKK
Nazis
Etc
It's where the journalists '''''''''''service'''''''''' the Democratic party.
Who cares?
“But we like to take that approach of helping people live their lives and make better decisions to everything we do. So we bring it to politics, we bring it to coverage of the environment, and all kinds of different sectors and parts of people’s life.”
They want to virtue signal via word salad.
Arianna tried so hard for her website to be the Drudge Report for the left, and they changed so many times to contort to what they think people wanted, but it has always been and will always be a shit ass website. I don’t even open links to articles for them anymore because it takes my phone an eternity to load in all the fucking advertisements.
I suppose we get what we pay for.
I'm pretty sure its when journalists write whatever story politicians pay them to write. Fee for service. That kind of thing.
I don't know but it doesn't sound good.
It seems to be a fancy way of saying, “Be more like BuzzFeed.”
It means their primary focus won't be political. Just take a look at their headlines from today:

Stunner - Dem on top in Kentucky Gov Race
Democrats Take Control of Virginia State Legislature

"Didn’t AOL own them at some point?"
AOL purchased them. Verizon purchased AOL. Verizon then purchased Yahoo and merged all of those entities together into a unit that is now called Verizon Media Group.

"But Is It Really All Trump's Fault?"
It would seem so. Chester County PA government went 100% Democrat last night for the first time since the Civil War. A friend, a GOP operative, told me it was a referendum on Trump. "Independents and many in the GOP are fed up with his obnoxious and undignified performance as President." The voters kicked out incumbent Republicans who had lowered costs, modernized and made services more efficient and practiced transparency and voted in young progressive Dems with no experience but plenty of emotional crap about improving education and fighting climate change. If there is a secret Trump block out there that is misleading the pollsters, then they need to step up. It all reminds me of 1964 when Goldwater supporters thought there was a hidden groundswell that was waiting for election day. Be worried, libertarian friends, be worried especially if the Dems nominate an out and out fascist and he or she ends up with control of both the House, Senate, and the Ginsburg seat.
Lighten up Francis. When more than 50 people show up to vote and the options are President Harris or President Trump, Harris isn't going to carry Chester County even if they have Al Franken himself doing the recount.
And if it isn't Harris? What if Herself gets into this? Open your eyes and engage your mind.
#clintonobama2020 ?
Odd year elections are like primaries, they can't really be counted as a referendum on anything except whatever the most important local initiatives/races are. One local county where I live had a whopping 12% turn out - and that's with all-state voter mail-in and an initiative that would save people hundreds out-of-pocket on car tab fees. IOW, it is very easy for a dedicated and motivated minority to swing the election.
Ahh yes, a Dem fascist. Would help to replace the R fascists at least.
Election Day 2019 Was Bad for Republicans. But Is It Really All Trump's Fault?
Haha. Why? Because Virginia had Democrats take their Legislature with a slim majority on an off-voting year? Virginia where Governor McBlack Face, Lt Governor McGrabby Hands, and Attorney General McBlack Face refused to resign.
I guess they can all resign now so the Speaker of the VA House of Delegates can be Governor!
Can you tell me the last time Republicans did well in Virginia? They haven't won a state wide election in probably ten years, and they would have lost the house two years ago if it weren't for the coin flip. You can try to chalk it up to off year, but the "on years" haven't gone well either.
If Rand Paul wants to be President of the United States, rather than a career jobber* politician like his father, He'll throw his hat into the ring to be Kentucky's governor.
Short of being a general who won a war or being a Vice President, being a successful governor gives presidential candidates credibility like nothing else can.
Do a term or two as Kentucky's governor, and he could be a real force in the Republican establishment--and a real threat to become president of the United States.

Good call, Ken
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced last week that his company would ban both paid advertising by political candidates and ads addressing political issues.
*calls broker* ummm, please sell all of my TWTR stock.
Political ads can't possibly make up more than 10% of their revenue, and the company has never paid a dividend or showed a profit. If this is what convinced you to sell your Twitter stock then you're an idiot. But then you would have to be to have purchased it in the first place.
I bought twitter at $18 three years ago, held it when it went down to $13, but then sold this summer when it was at $37. I missed out when it went to $45, but they reported a shit ass quarter two weeks ago, and the stock has lost 34% of its value since then.

The State's rush to execute Mr. Cromartie without DNA testing is tragic for him, and should be troubling for us all.
Completely irrelevant. Ray Cromartie was tried, and found guilty of felony murder by a jury of his peers. It does not matter if he pulled the trigger or not - he enabled the murder of an innocent man. He gets the needle. May his death atone for his sins.
Odd that Cromartie's partner didn't get the needle, isn't it?
Maybe the partner made a deal with the State? Dunno.
Not odd, scandalous.

Across the state, Kentucky Republicans did OK
Did 'okay'? Is 'okay ' liberal code for winning their races by large margins?
Because the large margins every other republican won by puts Bevin's .3% loss to Beshear in an entirely different light.
One that may explain why Bevin hasn't conceded.
And this--
This is why the bulk of libertarians in this country are libertarian and not Libertarians.
How can you support someone who crows when having the ability to vote a straight Libertarian ticket in KY has allowed the possibility of someone getting into office who will not just restrict liberty, but do their damnedest to screw with LP access to the ballot?
How can you support someone who crows when having the ability to vote a straight Libertarian ticket in KY has allowed the possibility of someone getting into office who will not just restrict liberty, but do their damnedest to screw with LP access to the ballot?
You keep settling for shit sandwiches, all you're ever going to get are shit sandwiches. If you're happy that the shit sandwich comes with a slice of cheese, well, God bless you for being easy to please, but sometimes you actually have to make good on your threat to fuck some shit up if they don't stop feeding you the shit sandwiches. Of course, the GOP is just going to whine and complain about those unreasonable libertarians refusing to eat the shit sandwiches instead of offering them something better, but that's because the GOP is happy to settle for shit sandwiches.
Yea, the LP bragging in a juvenile manner about being lower than shit is a very persuasive tactic
He like so many others tries to convince us he's principled and not just lazy and cowardly.
"Of course, the GOP is just going to whine and complain"
Orlly?
"You keep settling for shit sandwiches, all you’re ever going to get are shit sandwiches"
Ah, so you were projecting.
Is that how you plan to "fuck some shit up"? By complaining about the GOP ad nauseum?
The problem is, the result of electing a Democrat is cutting off your nose to spite your face. It is arguably worse for the cause of liberty in exchange for a partisan "moral victory".
Settling for shit sandwiches?
This is Kentucky. You can go into any polling place and hit "Straight Libertarian Ticket" Where else can you do that?
Kentucky is STILL the home of some of the most principled libertarian politicians ever to get elected.
And the laws on the ground, from town level up through statewide reflect that.
For the LP heads to gloat that they've set their own cause back tells you everything you need to know about how the Libertarian Party wing of the libertarian movement has been thoroughly undermined.
The LP was SUCCEEEDING in Kentucky--and this election might not have hurt. But gloating? In a state that has been slipping libertarian? Dude.
I knew reason would parrot the MSM talking points instead of look at the voting data for interesting trends.
VA Senate 005: Independent ran against a normally unopposed Democrat (30,189) and got 20% of the vote (8,057).
VA Senate 009: Libertarian ran against normally unopposed Democrat (49,269) and got 19.02% (11,696)
VA Senate 016: Independent (15,719) vs Democrat (29,389)
and on and on....
VA Dept of Elections (unoffical results)
What's your point? Are you arguing that VA isn't trending reliably Democrat?
“ While off-year elections are always a bit underwhelming, there was still some drama—and a little good news—to come out of Election Day 2019.”
Nice of ENB to admit she’s a Democrat.
All principled libertarians must vote Democrat when the other party is controlled by alt-right white nationalists.
Unfortunately this statement isn’t even parody.
No, it's Reason's credo
I believe it's the neocons' founding principle.
What do you think she was referring to as "good news"? I thought it was the ranked choice thing.
Her party's victories.
Yes Zeb we are aware you're childishly naive.
So, show me where she said anything celebratory about Democrat victories.
The fact that they have now posted a fairly positive article about ranked choice voting suggests that that may indeed be what the Reason editorial staff thinks is the good news.
Reason certainly has it in for Republicans, but they don't support Democrats either. "Both sides" may be naive or misguided, but that's what they do.
Eh, guess it could be. I would assume it would be something she wrote before the next bolded subtitle though, especially since the next several paragraphs appear to be celebrating democratic victories.
The new HuffPost will be less centered on political news and more focused on service journalism.
Still servicing a certain political party.
The Republicans won every other state wide race and super majorities in both houses of the legislature in Kentucky. It is hard to see how the governor losing is about anything except how much the voters disliked him. Looks to me like it was a bad night for Virginia Republicans.
It was a bad night for Virginia, period. The VA democrats have said they're going to focus on gun control and raising the minimum wage first. So, basically they're going to screw everyone who doesn't live in NOVA and there's nothing the other 50% of the state can do about it.
Virginia has gone full retard. It is now much worse than Maryland. It is New Jersey level retard. People who don't live there don't realize what a shit hole NOVA has become. Large parts of it are crime ridden. MS13 is a huge problem that the state and locals refuse to admit exist much less address. Housing is insanely expensive and even having the money to buy in a good neighborhood doesn't save you. I know several people who have spent upwards of $700K on a house only to have a house next door or near by bought by illegal aliens and filled with 30 people living in it terrorizing the neighborhood. It is California without the wild fires and blackouts.
Maybe the western counties can figure a way to reunite with West Virginia.
There really should be some way for counties to vote to join another state.
Say a referendum or something that gets 67-75%

Definitely not Colorado! You do not want to deal with the hourly drive-bys, 11 months of winter, massive tax rates, and the 30% unemployment rates.
Not to mention the 2% wealth tax on incoming residents and the requirement that you have to have lived here for 2 years before you can buy property.
(None of these problems exist in Texas by the way...)
I don't think it's correct that you need to wait two years to buy property in Colorado after becoming a resident.
I suppose I was mistaken on that particular fact. I'm kind of rattled today due to my run-in with the roving motorcycle rape gang patrolling I-25.
I just moved to Colorado from Texas, and none of our realtors mentioned it so I thought that couldn't be correct. Plus I'm not aware of any State that requires residency to buy land, so that was curious.
That said, I-25 does suck. And why the hell is Colorado such a huge fan of the roundabout and interstate ramp red lights? So terrible!
Ummm.
One of us needs their sarcasm detector recalibrated, and I'm not sure if it's you or me.
See you on the skiing hills. If you buy me a beer I'll show you the machine they use to make moguls.
"It is now much worse than Maryland. It is New Jersey level retard. "
Woah, now. That's going a bit far. I think it will take another couple of election cycles to get to that point, at least legally. Even with Democrats dominating the politics they can only move so fast.
Yeah, I know. I had to educate John that People Republic of NJ Retard Mode is in a class all by itself.
"I know several people who have spent upwards of $700K on a house only to have a house next door or near by bought by illegal aliens and filled with 30 people living in it terrorizing the neighborhood. It is California without the wild fires and blackouts."
This is parody, right?
Ok. How did the eeleegal ms 13 terrerrists afford a house next door to a $700k house?
Drug sales.
This isn't a florida condo for a russian mobster. Buying a house with illegal proceeds is exceedingly difficult without several foreign LLC or corps. Color me skeptical that an american street gang or 30 illegal laborers are going to set up foreign entities to buy an expensive house in a nice neighborhood, and then proceed to "terrorize" it.
""Buying a house with illegal proceeds is exceedingly difficult without several foreign LLC or corps.""
Buying a house with cash is difficult?
Yes. It is.
No. It isn't.
John....As a resident of the People's Republic of NJ, I can assure you that the 'full retard mode' of VA is NOTHING like the 'full retard' mode we have here. Nothing....nothing at all...is quite like New Jersey retarded. Just ask Phailing Phil Murphy, the GS reject who would be Governor.
Virginia republicans have not been able to get their shit together since losing the 2013 governors’ race to the reptile McAuliffe. Trump doesn’t help either. In any case, we will see how blue it stays once the NoVa progs have to pay higher taxes for everything, and their favorite restaurants close because they can’t afford the $15 wage, which will also put lots of brown folks out of a job.
Like i say above, NOVA is a shit hole. Maryland had the O"Malley experience and decided that going full retard was a bad idea. Virginia sees states like California and New Jersey and bums shitting all over the place and thinks "give me some that".
The state is hopeless. I feel bad for the rest of the state but NOVA is about to get exactly what it wants and deserves.
Well maybe some of the NoVa progtards will move to DC or Maryland now that the they are practically indistinguishable from Virginia, MD might actually not be as bad. NoVa actually already flipped blue last election, it was the Richmond area that delivered for the dems this time.
Maryland sucks in a million ways, but I find it to be better than NOVA. Honestly, I think Maryland having a significant black population helps it. NOVA is just crazy Prog white people. I would rather live in PG country than deal with those assholes.
The asshole part is well deserved though. There are a lot of stuck up rich white people in NoVA that "just want to help" while they fuck you over.
I live amongst them. I had a conversation with one of them a while back about gun control. This woman was a PHD scientist who of course smuggly claimed that Progs were all about looking at things scientifically. When I pointed out to her that every study ever done shows that gun control increases crime, she had no answer other than "something has to be done"; real scientific there. Then she finally let slip that "well of course my relatives out in Western Kansas are not the people that we need to keep guns away from". No matter what they claim, we you get down to it, they are all just racists who want to keep the scary black people from arming themselves.
She sounds like a typical person - when confronted with evidence to the contrary, or her cognitive dissonance is exposed, she resorts to emotional appeal. People that are extremely well learned in their field tend to overestimate their knowledge in other areas in life.
NoVA is full of over-educated people, a lot of whom think they know more than you and that you would agree with them if you just knew what they did. When you expose their total lack of knowledge on a subject, they always try to appeal to your emotions.
NoVA is actually a really nice area to live in. There aren't any homeless camps, the jobs are really good and the area is generally recession-resistent because of the out-of-control federal government. The housing prices are crazy expensive but the salaries are also inflated. The public schools in NoVA are some of the best-performing public schools in the nation.
It might be for fucked up reasons, but NoVA is not a shit hole or even close to comparable to what is happening in major California cities.
That shit is coming. I find more homless bums and such around NOVA than I used to. I would live in Loudon County if I worked somewhere where I didn't have an insane commute. But you can keep the rest of it. Montgomery County is older and a lot nicer I find. Interestingly, for being nearly entirely white and Progressive, Montgomery County has the most fascist cops ever. You don't see crazy homeless people and feral teenagers running around Montgomery County or not for long. I always found it very ironic that the whole "Love Trumps Hate" crowd that dominate the county have no problem with their police running anyone who looks like trouble off the streets in a heartbeat. But, I will take it since it improves the quality of my life and there is nothing I could do about it anyway.
At least in Montgomery County MD they've reduced the penalty for Marijuana under a certain weight to a simple fine (still too much, but this is better than VA).
That being said, you still can't buy your alcohol at the grocery store, all your drivers are morons and your tax policies are insane, so ya'll still suck (I jest).
I do think you're right in some ways though, if the Dems do what they want down here, we will see more homeless people. I've lived in NoVA for 30 years and 2018-2019 was the first time I've ever seen a homeless person or two panhandling on the street in Fairfax County. Its hard to tell if that's because policing is becoming more lax or if economic mobility is getting stunted.
Without letting builders build more cheaply, this'll never get fixed because housing prices are fucking insane here. Its actually cheaper to rent then to buy right now. I took a look at one $400k 1,200 sq ft townhome a few months ago and people were everywhere in that open house. I asked the owner how many people had come through that day. He said 90 potential buyers within the first 2 hours.
It is all about policing. Panhandlers are all just grifters. They either have a home and are successful enough at begging they don't work or they are just drug addict bums who would rather beg and live on the streets than work for a living. Economics have nothing to do with it. It is strictly a matter of whether the community will tolerate them.
The thing I do see in Maryland is fucking Gypsies. About five or six Gypsies started showing up begging at big intersections. I didn't know there were Gypsies in America. Gypsies really are scum. The whole culture is based on begging and theft.
I don't have an opinion on Gypsies, but as far as panhandlers go, I think its probably a little less black and white than you make it out to be. That being said, if its policed really hard, they won't be around. That seems like a very reasonable assumption.
Regarding Montgomery County Cops:
I agree. Progs love to tell everyone how much they love everyone until they have a homeless person in their face telling them they just got out of jail and just need a little bit of money. That's when they call the cops.
I was talking to a Progressive white lady at my work the other day about immigration and asked "if an 40-year old man who is an illegal immigrant were to fall asleep on your porch and you found him there the next morning - what would you do?"
She said "invite him in and give him a place to stay." BULL FUCKING SHIT. I don't believe that for a second. BUT, if she did do this, I'd call her a god damn moron putting her family in danger like that. You'd just invite a 40-year-old unknown man from another country into your home where your daughter sleeps? Do you do that for the 40-year-old unknown white dude panhandling at your local shopping center? Fuck no you don't. I lost so much respect for my coworker that day.
Progressives are empty virtue signalers. I can't even be friends with someone like that. Acquaintances is the best we'll ever be because I can't trust a thing that comes out of her mouth, which makes me feel like she could stab me in the back if she found that it would help her image.
You should go down to Home Depot and hire a guy to do just that.
Can't imagine it would be more than $20-$50
This made me chuckle. Thanks for that.
I live in Takoma Park, MD (which is in montgomery county) and John's assessment of the county is hilarious. Did he read the wiki page or something? Have you ever been to Silver Spring? talking about "lack" of homeless people and feral teenagers like you actually know what you are talking about.
Go to Bethesda sometime pal. Moreover, to the extent that does exist, the cops are all over it all the time. It is nothing like DC.
As long as Lefties have cops to keep those Blacks in "their" part of Virginia and Maryland, it's all good.
Montgomery County is entirely white now?
When I was growing up there (84-96), there was a lot of ethnic diversity. At least that's how it was at school and the neighborhoods around it.
That was Montgomery Village/Gaithersburg
It is getting close. The whole place is gentrifying. The upper middle class that used to be in Bethesda and Potomac have been priced out and are moving out to Rockville, Gaithersburg, Wheaton and Silver Spring. All of the DC area except for PG County gets more white every year. DC itself is getting close to no longer being majority black. Once black neighborhoods like Columbia Heights are now almost entirely white urban hipster.
Winchester is nice...
San Francisco also has Million dollar homes with decent schools and good paying jobs.
Residents step in shit walking out their crowded Million dollar homes.
IIRC, California also used to have one of the best 1-12 and college public schools systems in the USA. Not anymore.
NoVA also has homes that aren’t a million dollars, very clean streets and sidewalks, no tent cities and a homeless population that is very far and few between.
One of my best friends bought a reasonably priced home in Manassas on a $40k salary when he was 23. He’s 30 now and does just fine without any roommates. He went to a trade school.
Comparing NoVA to San Fran just shows you don’t know anything about NoVA.
NOVA has too much space to ever be like San Fran. It will never be as expensive overall. You will just end up living in Richmond and communing to Crystal City.
You’re right about space, but you really wouldn’t need to live in Richmond to find affordability. Prince William County is affordable. If you want more open spaces with more English speaking communities, you can live in Faquier County or Fredericksburg instead. The idea that NoVA is a shithole for anyone - rich or poor, is silly on its face to literally anyone that lives here. The idea that it’s facing any of the problems California faces is also silly.
I can see the argument that we might head in that direction, but claiming that’s how it is today is flat out incorrect.
I didnt compared NOVA to San Francisco. I compared one shitty Blue area to another Shithole Blue area.
While San Fran has a geographical limitation, NOVA has a limitation on distance for workers sucking at the federal teat.
You probably dont know this but people used to live OUTSIDE San Fran and commute into that city. They did this because there was plenty of land and houses were cheap. As long as you could stand to sit in traffic for 1.5 hours each way, you were golden.
Some of those homes are now worth $1 million and they are outside San Fran.
Your make believe best friend made a bad choice. If D.C. is drained, there is less and less incentive to live there. There is a reason that the D.C area has not been anything but an inner city shithole until the last 15 years. It ain't because people like living in a swamp.
People like to live in San Fran because the weather is really comfortable. As in sweaters in August sometimes.
I didnt compared NOVA to San Francisco.
Then you proceed by continuing to act like NoVA is basically San Fran from a few decades ago.
If you can't even bother to follow your own logic and arguments, I can't either. Peace.
Your make believe best friend made a bad choice.
Oh, you're one of those people that impugns his opponent's character without provocation, a lot like a standard progressive. I've done this before too because I used to think it was clever, but then I realized its actually a standard ad hominem attack in place of a coherent argument. I thought you were better than that, LC.
As I said, Im comparing two shitty locales. There are multiple other locations that you can compare to NoVA.
Its a suburb of a Megapolis.
The fact that you cant see that is hilarious. I know, youre just getting used to this place with you being a newb and all.
Maybe you will learn some things around here.
NY Times Stock Down 7% Amid Continued Q3 Ad Revenue Declines
Haha. No jobs for reason staff.
In any case, we will see how blue it stays once the NoVa progs have to pay higher taxes for everything, and their favorite restaurants close because they can’t afford the $15 wage, which will also put lots of brown folks out of a job.
We've seen what happens, because we have Detroit and Silicon Valley as opposite-end economic examples. They become even more blue, with the wealthy members living in gated communities with contracted security, while their prole service class lives in crumbling, crime-ridden neighborhoods.
Prices will go up but the service and government professionals in NoVA will have more than enough to pay for it. NoVA (particularly Fairfax and Loudoun counties) is an area that is probably well-positioned to absorb a $15 minimum wage. Its the rest of Virginia - especially rural areas, the areas south of NoVA and areas inside of and surrounding Richmond that I worry about. Business owners in those areas are about to get fucked really hard by the Democrats.
I suspect that most Virginians outside of NoVa will move to other states, especially WV and NC and take their businesses with them, further consolidating the dem power hold in NoVa, much like how Cali is controlled by the coast.
As much as I wish mobility worked like this, it probably wont. They'll just do their best to work with what they've got and maybe their kids will figure a way out.
People will move even faster as the federal budgets are cut.
Yea, but the KY governor's race is corporate media's priority, so Reason is going to obsequiously fall in line
Virginia = big government, big military, big contracting, and big Deep State. Over the years, the whole obscene panopticon has naturally attracted grifters from New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New England by the millions, and has sucked wealth from the rest of the country into the state by the billions.
Big government republicans like the Bush family, these folks could ((reluctantly) live with. A man like Trump who actually wants to drain this swamp on the other hand is their worst enemy, and they all instinctively and viscerally know it.
If anything this Virginia election illustrates how tied to federal budgets many Virginians are in the Capitol Area.
Of course, they are scared shitless of Trump pushing to gut the federal budget and/or shutting down down the federal government for months. They will lose their homes. These bureaucrats will literally vote for anyone who will keep the gravy train flowing.
They're not scared shitless. Trump has increased the federal budget, not decreased it. He wants to spend more on infrastructure. He already spent more on the military - we have tons of government contractors, military personnel, intelligence community types, etc.
Even if Trump really were reducing the size and scope of the federal government in a meaningful way, he has a maximum of 5 years left and there's no guarantee that 4 of those years will have a majority Republican House or Senate. These are career bureaucrats that live here.. do you really, honestly, believe that they won't outlast Trump?
I live here, and trust me, literally no one is scared of losing their position as a bureaucrat for the ever expanding federal government. It's fucked up - I wish people we're losing their federal jobs, but what you're describing is a fantasy land.
Haha. Good one.
Some more posts like you have and you might convince hihn that Trump is not a threat to federal worker jobs.
I find these new handles a breath of fresh air from straight bot code.
Regarding Kentucky, no Republican governor has ever won reelection. And in yesterday's election, Republicans swept all the other statewide races. Kentucky also elected its first African-American Attorney General, who is the state's first Republican Attorney General since 1948.
Live Results: Kentucky General Election
Cameron Daniel is a Republican BLACK AMERICAN. Watch Lefty heads explode!
Quite frankly, it's sad that you have to point out that he's a black Republican. That's how truly pathetic the Republican ideology is when they have to crow about having a single black person win for them.
It's sad that Lefties won't admit that Black Americans want to not be Democrats.
As I said, Lefty heads explode!
yeah--it's nothing like bragging that the first trans incumbent got firstly, transly re-elected. Not at all.
Hilariously, Trump predicted the exact media response that Duvall confirmed--that if Bevin won, it would be mostly ignored, and if he lost, it would be a referendum on Trump.
"Tax rich more, Patriotic Millionaires urge"
[...]
"Los Altos resident Doug Edwards asked President Obama something that many Americans would consider unthinkable: "Would you please raise my taxes?"
Edwards, 53, can afford it. Retired after being amply compensated for being employee No. 59 at Google, he's part of a Bay Area-birthed organization called Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength.
[...]
The Patriotic Millionaires contend that Americans with incomes over $1 million should shoulder a larger share of the tax burden to pay for Pell Grants, road improvements and training programs "that made it possible for me to get to where I am," as Edwards told Obama during the president's appearance last week at the Mountain View social networking company LinkedIn."

These people are NOT being altruistic; nothing is stopping them from turning over their entire income and wealth to the government.
They're not talking about their money, they're talking about the government taking yours.
Word.
I've been telling folks this for years. Warren Buffett thinks he should pay more taxes? Fine. Here ya go. Send a check to:

There is nothing stopping these retards from giving the government more money. STOP wanting to take more of MY money.
But Buffett and people like him know damn well that if he writes a check to the U.S. Treasury, that check will be cashed and he will be out the money.
If on the other hand he makes noises about the tax rates being raised, he knows that will take years to happen if it happens at all. And if by some miracle it does happen he is on a first-name basis with all the big wheels in D.C. so he can get them to slip a provision elsewhere in the tax code that will make up for it.
Cost free virtue signalling. It's not just for nutty hipsters anymore.
The new HuffPost will be less centered on political news and more focused on service journalism.
Is "service journalism" journalism about the servicing industry or just the usual journalists doing the servicing? Either way, I'll still get my servicing done elsewhere, there's a couple of girls down on Buford Avenue that know what I like and offer a reasonable rate.
Does one of them go by the name "Arianna"?
Black activist who took control of neo-Nazi group dies at 55
Hm.... I winder why the MSM didnt cover this story much until he died?
There was an election?
I've been paying less attention to the news lately. Highly recommended.

Do teenyboppers really use Twitter all that much? Most of the interaction on there seems to be dominated by Blue Checkmarks, soy goons, and middle-aged cat ladies.
Nah, they are using Snapchat, Instagram, and a bunch of fly-by-night apps which seem to change with the seasons.
As an expert troll, it's obvious that it got to her and she's pissed. It has happened before, I insulted her and she came in the comments and lost her shit bitching at me.

Senate Republicans consider including Bidens in Trump impeachment trial
Senate Republicans are privately debating whether they should use an impeachment trial of President Trump to scrutinize former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter as some Trump allies push to call them as witnesses while others dismiss the suggestion as a risky political ploy.
Haha. The US Senate members have to be sworn in during impeachment trials and witnesses have to be sworn in, so its a great way to lock Hunter and Joe Biden into their statements and get them on perjury later.
More power to them if they can manage to get the Bidens on the witness stand. Hunter had no qualifications whatsoever to sit on the board of Burisma. It reeks of corruption.
haha, let's distract from the fact Trump is corrupt af huh?
Keep on bootlicking LC. Too late for you to admit you have been conned.
I didn't hear you with Hillary's dick inside your mouth.
It is interesting how Libertarians so often raise the concerns over the tyranny of the majority and the dangers of direct democracy but never seem to have a word to say about Baker v. Carr.
Baker v. Carr is the Supreme Court case from the late 70s that eliminated geographic based state legislatures. Before that case, most states had two legislatures similar to the US Congress, one based on representation drawn by population the other drawn by strictly geographic lines. Baker v. Carr in the name of one man one vote declared such systems unconstitutional and mandated all state legislatures be made up of representation by population.
This made rural areas in states with large cities essentially subjects of the large cities. This is what has happened in Illinois, New York, Maryland and now Virginia. It is a perfect example of what a tyranny by the majority looks like. Geographic based legislatures are one of the most important checks on direct democracy and the tyranny of the majority. And Baker v. Carr ended that and much harm has resulted.
Interesting. Wasn't familiar with that.
I hope Virginia burns
It is such a hugely significant case and almost no one knows about it. We didn't even read that case in CON Law in law school. It is really an outrageous and stupid decision. How could the Constitution set up a geographic based house of the federal Congress then be read to ban such a thing at the state level?
The court makes up whatever they want.
The same way a document that specifically allows for capital punishment can be interpreted as prohibiting the death penalty. Judges just ignoring what the text says and the logical implications of such and substituting their own notions of the right way to do things.
Pretty much. Sort of like how gay marriage is now a right even though being gay was a crime in every state when the document was written. I for one have never welcomed our robed overlords.
I didn't know about this case. Thanks for the info. This is pretty fucking outrageous.
I've wondered why our legislature wasn't set up that way, leading to state domination of government by pretty much one county. I didn't know about this case at all.
Someday, Eastern Washington and Oregon are going to succeed and join Idaho.
The old system didn't give the rural areas control. You still had the governor and the lower house that was done by population. But it did give them some influence and representation at the state level. Baker v. Carr ended that.
Add in the 17th Amendment changing how US Senators are selected and a huge power shift happened.
The Big Cities run states and Washington DC runs the USA.
With 99% of precincts reporting, Beshear currently has 709,697 votes to Bevin's 703,899.
Democrats also won big in Virginia, where CNN projects the party will flip both chambers of the Virginia legislature, taking control of the state Senate and the House of Delegates.
Meanwhile, in Mississippi, CNN projected a win for Republicans, with Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves defeating Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, in the race for governor.
CNN wont say that its a huge defeat for Democrats if they lose the Kentucky Governor seat. Its only a huge defeat on Trump is the republican loses.
Fun Fact: Beshear currently had almost 709,697 votes last night, so the Republican is gaining votes today by the thousands.
Also John Hicks, the LP candidate for Kentucky Governor has received 28,426 votes or 2%.
Watch the difference in coverage they give if Bevin refuses to concede versus the coverage they gave the crazy broad in Georgia who still refuses to concede the governor's race there. Suddenly refusing to concede and demanding a recount will no longer be patriotic.

LGBT activist indicted for raping 15 year old boy and then paying him not to testify in court. Oddly, the media doesn't seem interested in this story. I guess child rape is only interesting if a priest does it.
Or, as I said elsewhere:
Jerryskids • 2 hours ago
Far be it from me to stand in the way of a good witch burning, but it seems to me that if the victim of this crime is willing to accept $200,000 to make the charges go away who am I to say he's wrong? Personally, I might have counter-offered an additional zero on the check, but I wasn't asked and I don't think it's any of my business. Is the state now going to threaten to punish the victim of the crime if he refuses to testify truthfully? Is that where we're at now, applauding that this guy is being prosecuted for crimes against the state rather than the actual crime against the actual victim?
If the kid is happy to settle the case for $200,000, what is the state's angle here? From a libertarian perspective of course, I don't expect a statist of any hue to grasp the argument against the state having a monopoly on the distribution of justice.
But just for the fun of it, let's imagine that I come home and find you in my house stealing my TV. Now, I can offer you a choice - I call the cops and the state takes over, I get to shoot you in the leg so you carry a permanent reminder to keep your hands off stuff that doesn't belong to you, or we can ride over to your house and I get to help myself to the appliance of my choice from you. Only one of those choices is legal and therefore permitted by the state, but why? It's my TV and you are the one attempting to steal it, why does the state get to interpose itself into our affairs against our wishes?
The age of consent is 18, not 15. If you think it should be 15, fine. Make that argument. But the fact that your rape victims are willing to be paid off should not protect you from being prosecuted.
This guy is a scumbag. I don't care if he was banging a 15 year old girl. I am willing to admit that the age of consent is a difficult issue and it is impossible to draw a perfect line. I will even admit 18 is likely too old. But, 15? fuck that. That is a child at 15. I have no problem with sending people over 18 to jail for knowingly fucking 15 year olds and then trying to pay them off not to testify.
This is not a witch burning. This is a serious dirtbag pervert finally getting what he deserves.
Actually, taking the money makes the alleged victim a prostitute.
Lock him up!
I'm not sure what you're referring to as "age of consent", here in Georgia it's 16 for example, and maybe you mean "age of majority", the age at which one is legally able to enter into contracts, but it doesn't really answer the underlying question as to why this case couldn't be handled under tort law rather than criminal law if that's how the aggrieved party wants to handle it. Except for the circular argument that that's the law and therefore it's the law.
It couldn't be handled under Tort law because rape is a violent crime. And age of consent is the age at which you can consent to sex. Under that age, you can't consent and any sex you have with an adult is rape. The age of majority has nothing to do with this conversation. It is about the age at which you can enter into contracts not sex.
Rape is a crime against a person and a crime against society such that the state has an interest in taking the person who did it off of the streets and protecting the rest of society. You don't settle it through tort law because you don't want a situation where people are free to rape just so long as they can pay off their victims.
How you can't understand that and think crimes like rape and murder can be settled through tort law is beyond me.
But if every rape “victim” prefers a payout rather than incarceration then are they still a victim?
Assuming a serial rapist eventually you’ll find someone who prefers incarceration over any size of a payout..... if they themselves believe they were actually still victimized after being compensated. That was the early genesis of weregild with the victims family setting the price (later codified, but that removes the agreement if the parties). If the killer paid the price the blood debt was settled, and if not the entire community would hunt him down.
That’s essentially the logic here - the rapist committed a crime such that the entire community will stand against them, or he can pay off his blood debt set at the price the victim demands.
That sets aside the logic of incapacitation for incarceration of course, but it’s less clear that’s a maximally useful pursuit of justice if everyone is better off without it. And if we think incapacitation is mandatory for justice then we need to spend a lot more on police to catch all wrongdoers, since the postulate is that it’s necessary for a justice system.
"Its cool everyone, eventually the rapist will rape someone that doesn't want it."
Who is to say that every rape victim wants that? Moreover, allowing the person to stay in society means allowing them to rape other people. The people who are raped never consented to it or it wouldn't be rape, you half wit.
If the kid is happy to settle the case for $200,000, what is the state’s angle here?
The state may not have an interest, but I sure do.
""LGBT activist indicted for raping 15 year old boy and then paying him not to testify in court. Oddly, the media doesn’t seem interested in this story.""
Epstein didn't kill himself. The media isn't interested in that story too.
Perhaps because someone tipped the Clintons since someone at ABC said they had the Clintons and everything.
Mississippi was a rout of Democrats. Not a big surprise but the Democrats lost their guy as Attorney General.
I am old enough to remember when Mississippi was dominated by the Democrats.
What was Mississippi like back then?
Very, very racist
According to Lefties, all those nasty racist Democrats went to the GOP and the South turned Red.
In reality, young Gen Xers started voting Republican and slowly outnumbering the Democrat voters.
Yeah, Kentucky wasn't a referendum on Trump. It was almost certainly about Bevin's pension reform.
Kentucky, allegedly, has the worst funded pension obligations in the country.
"Farris said Kentucky's assumption for the main state government plan is lowest because it is also the worst-funded plan in America, reporting $13.7 billion in unfunded liabilities and having just 12.9% of assets on hand to cover known future benefits."
From other estimates I've heard about, that figure may be from the annual budget. I'm seeing that their total outstanding unfunded pension liabilities are north of $40 billion elsewhere.
Bevin pushed a plan to freeze pension benefits so that they wouldn't grow for a year while they implement other fixes. The public sector unions went ape-shit. The other people who went ape-shit against the plan was taxpayers, who were upset at the extent to which Bevin's plan put the onus on them to make up for these unfunded liabilities.
I don't know how you're supposed to solve a problem like this without cutting pension benefits or funding the deficit with taxes, but I know that while the LP in Kentucky may be happy to play spoiler in the race, fiscal conservative libertarians should be sad. Bevin mostly lost because he dared to take on the public sector unions in Kentucky to cut spending on public pensions, and losing for that reason is not good news for people who care about small government.
So now the Democrat governor has however many years to solve that problem without raising taxes or cutting benefits. Winning a governor's race after that shit show should be a cake walk for Rand Paul if he can win the nomination.
Woops!

To be fair, a lot of states have this issue, it's just swept under the rug when Democrats are in charge.
Colorado's PERA system, for example, has been getting the Band-Aid/duct-tape treatment for several years, and even the left-wing local media have admitted that it needs significant reform.
Some problems don't have a popular solution, but, from my perspective, if the public employee unions aren't out in the streets protesting and occupying the state legislative chambers like they did when Scott Walker was taking them on, then the problem isn't being properly addressed. Anyway, I don't expect politicians to have moral fiber or a backbone--that's supposed to come from the voters.
That Bevin was able to keep it close despite infuriating the unions is probably impressive. I'm sure there was no shortage of concerned teachers on the local news telling people that the governor just wanted children to starve to death and die.
"I don’t expect politicians to have moral fiber or a backbone–that’s supposed to come from the voters."
Libertopia happens when we persuade enough of our fellow Americans to demand spending cuts, tax cuts, justice, and freedom and reward those who give it to them.
The reason we don't have better politicians is because we don't have better voters, and if we don't have better voters, it's because we failed to persuade them. That's why I used to treasure this place--as a means to spread the libertarian gospel.
Nowadays, I can't help but feel like some of the writers here are hurting the cause. It's be one thing if they were telling people the harsh truth, but when so and so is infuriating average people with bullshit coverage of immigration issues, he or she might as well be working for the opposition.
Well, in the off chance that Beshear is a reasonable Democrat and tries to stop Kentucky from running off of a fiscal cliff, at least we can trust the media to cover for him while he tries to fix the problem.
he is the only Democrat holding state wide office and the Republicans have a super majority in both state legislatures. It is hard to see what he is going to accomplish. Also, Beshear was AG and from what I read spent most of the last four years suing Bevin. I am kind of thinking he is going to regret that precedent now that he is governor.
""It is hard to see what he is going to accomplish. ""
Gridlock? Blocking the liberal agenda?
Thank god you don't need an exit visa to leave a state ... y et
I've seen California go after self-employed people for back taxes on income they made after they moved out of state.
Interestingly enough, buried deep in the fine print of a Disney sweepstakes for a 'free' cruise, is the fact that they will withhold taxes for California because one of the contracted administrators of the sweepstakes has one office in California.
Silly rabbit, deficits only matter when they csn be used as a smokescreen to get a social agenda passed.
Reason libertarians remain socially liberal and fiscally convenient.

The same people in the fall of 2016 who were clutching their pearls over the Trump pussy grabbing tape were refusing to run a story about Epstein and his buddies raping teenage girls. And the same people who were willing to print allegations that Kavenaugh was a gang rapist refused to print this story.
The media are scum. They are not partisans. Calling them that is an insult to partisans. They are just evil.
It's almost like the entire media is run by fewer than 10 multibillionaire globalists who universally like fucking children or something.
I am starting to think that the Epstein story is so bad and involves so many people that the truth will never be known and wouldn't be believed if it was. At this point, I think anything no matter how unthinkable and evil is possible.
Case in point:
Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre went back to his Manhattan mansion for an explosive new interview — in which she firmly insists that the financier’s one-time chum Prince Andrew “should go to jail.”
Giuffre was shown standing outside the late pedophile’s sprawling $56 million Upper East Side mansion that she told “60 Minutes Australia” was her “jail” for her years as Epstein’s sex slave.
But Duke of York Andrew was hit with her harshest words in the interview being teased at the same time as ABC news was accused of shelving its own sitdown with Giuffre to appease the royal family.
“Prince Andrew should go to jail,” Giuffre declared in a teaser for the special investigation to air this Sunday.
“I mean, is he ever going to? Probably not,” conceded the key accuser, who now lives in Australia..
Messed up the link:
Go Hier.
"The same people in the fall of 2016 who were clutching their pearls over the Trump pussy grabbing tape were refusing to run a story about Epstein and his buddies raping teenage girls."
And it should be clear that by "the same people", we're talking about the news media.
This was apparently uncovered by Veritas?
They'll smear the story because of its provenance.
They might treat Veritas worse than 8chan.
I've long said that progressives are America's most horrible people, but progressive journalists really are the most horrible of the horrible.
They are. And whenever something happens that reveals their character, they always turn out to be nasty, awful people.
^ Virtue signaler.
As if you have a problem with that.
It blows my mind the way the progressive cult even defies the profit motive. Network broadcasters are in a tailspin from the streaming revolution taking away the fees they can charge cable companies. When's the last time anybody under 40 wanted to watch anything but live sports on broadcast television? Rosanne comes along and draws more Millenials than the Superbowl, and the fire her for--does anyone remember why? Next thing you know, Norm MacDonald can't go on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show--not for anything he said other than his suggestion that maybe Roseanne wasn't entirely evil.
The only reason I might watch the Tonight Show is if Norm MacDonald were on it.
Speaking of McDonalds, they just fired their CEO because he was in a consensual relationship with a subordinate. That CEO has doubled the stock price of McDonalds over the short time he's been there, which is not an easy feat for a company that had already saturated the country with its locations decades ago. Who cares if he's made us rich, hasn't violated any laws, and the woman he had a relationship with is deeply in love with him? It fails the progressive purity test, and that's more important than anything.
That's the way these news agencies are running their business.
The only news worth reading anymore is behind a paywall, and standard broadcast news isn't worth watching anymore either.
I watch Reuters feeds. I watch Bloomberg through Roku so I don't have to see their tickers all around it. Both of those are free and to the left, but Reuters sells its stories to others based on their credibility. Bloomberg is generally anti-Trump and slanted towards the left, as well, but because they sell their financial news to people who are making investment decisions based on it, they have to maintain a certain standard of credibility. The WSJ, along with Bloomberg's site, is worth subscribing to as well for the same reason.
I'd say you get what you pay for these days, but as this story you linked shows, the free news you get from standard broadcast journalism is worth less than nothing.
Scathing and true, all of it.
No fucking way would I ever give WSJ or Bloomberg any money.
Drudge, Google News, and other news aggregators are free and provide a wide range of topics to then look at more in depth.
Financial News is the same thing. Free media aggregators give today's narrative and then you review company stock info based on what interests you.
Especially, you Ken, who knows how to filter out Lefty nonsense from an article.
I want to read intelligent commentary by people who disagree with me.
You really get that with paid subscriptions at WSJ and Bloomberg?
I get plenty of good discussion here at reason, once you ignore trolls like hihn, wearingit, hihn's socks, etc.
"You really get that with paid subscriptions at WSJ and Bloomberg?"
Yes!
Bloomberg and Reuters disagree with me more than WSJ.
"I get plenty of good discussion here at reason"
That's why I come here, too. Discussions I've had with people here in comments have made me more knowledgeable and smarter.
One of the reasons my posts tend to be long is because I lay out my thinking in the hope that someone will show me where I'm wrong. The ideas that are likely to be true are the ideas that have been subjected to the most and best scrutiny.
I was going to subscribe to WSJ because, like you, I thought "hey, these guys have different viewpoints from me, but at least they seem intelligent and they care about reporting standards." But right around the same time, the WSJ ran a story reporting flat-out lies about YouTuber PewDiePie, so I closed my wallet to them forever. How can I trust a publication to write about serious major political topics when I've seen them lie so blatantly about someone as inconsequential as a YouTuber?
I expect a lot of young people like me feel the same way. Gen Z even more so.
I don't expect anyone to get everything right, and I don't accept anything as true just because it was written by someone I like.
The idea that the earth orbits the sun has been subjected to a tremendous amount of scrutiny--and survived.
If the WSJ came out pro-flat earther tomorrow, I would understand that they're subject to perspective, bias, ignorance, and deception as the rest of us.
They're one perspective among others.
Six months after we invaded Iraq, 69% of the American people believed that Saddam Hussein was personally complicit in 9/11.
"WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly seven in 10 Americans believe it is likely that ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the Sept. 11 attacks, says a poll out almost two years after the terrorists' strike against this country.
Sixty-nine percent in a Washington Post poll published Saturday said they believe it is likely the Iraqi leader was personally involved in the attacks carried out by al-Qaeda. A majority of Democrats, Republicans and independents believe it's likely Saddam was involved."

We've all been fooled before, and we'll all be fooled again.
Uncertainty is the human condition, and logic and reason help us make the best judgments we can given what information is available to us. Between the scrutiny of these news sources, I feel like I can limit the bullshit as much as can reasonably be expected, but there's never been a good reason to believe that the people who write the news can't be fooled like I can--not even when they have the best of intentions.
No one will give you the absolute truth because they're just as subject to the same distortions as I am, but some of them are actually trying to inform us. Others are simply selling a bias as if it were unbiased and selling entertainment as if it were news. The difference between Colbert as a satirist and the mainstream news isn't as wide as a lot of people imagine.
The Epstein that was let off by Trump’s Florida cronies?
No he wasn't. Trump's Florida crony was the only guy who ever prosecuted Epstein for anything. The state wouldn't touch him. It was Trump's former cabinet guy who was willing to bring a case when no one else would. Then after the case was brought, the Obama justice department insisted that the Miami US Attorney's office agree to an absurdly lenient plea deal.
So why don't you just shut the fuck up and stop lying. Epstein belongs to the Democrats.
The interesting part was that they had dirt on Bill Clinton.
"Robach also said that Giuffre connected Bill Clinton and Alan Dershowitz to Epstein: “It was unbelievable what we had. Clinton. We had everything. I tried for three years to get it on to no avail.”
Both Dershowitz – Epstein’s lawyer – and Clinton were passengers on Epstein’s private jet, logs show."
https://pagesix.com/2019/11/05/abc-bosses-scramble-after-amy-robachs-comments-about-jeffrey-epstein-leak/
I'm reading elsewhere that Stephanopoulos would have overseen this story. I don't know whether that's true. I do know that the Hillary Clinton campaign wouldn't have wanted a story to come out about Bill Clinton on a private jet with Epstein's underage sex slave--and this story would have broken ahead of the election.
They killed it because it would have done grave damage to her campaign.
If you're not going to take your sex slave with you on your private jet, what's the point of having one?
Where was the Secret Service?
No matter how old Slick Willy gets, he can't stop himself from being Slick Willy.
Cue Colin Powell quote.
See Something. Say Nothing.
Secret Service motto.
That's not the only reason they killed.
There is some real bad stuff going on with a lot of "high lords" involved.
That's why the pizzagate thing was so relentlessly mischaracterized and spun.
The story wasn't about Hillary Clinton running child sex slaves out of a pizza joint, it was about a bunch of politicos running in circles where rampant child rape was an open secret.
But corporate media, with the help of places like Reason, has successfully buried it.
Epstein was a threat to expose the whole thing, which is likely much worse than the Catholic Church
The Pizzagate thing was deeply strange. The emails from the Democratic lawyer or whatever defied explanation. Yeah, it is confirmation bias to assume they were talking about molesting kids. At the same time, however, confirmation bias doesn't mean it is wrong. And they were very strange emails to be innocent.
Deep State loves them some Propaganda misdirection.
We live in a slight bubble here in our circles but it is very funny that most of America does not appear to believe the MSM. Clearly most of us can see right through the Lefty Propaganda game. It would appear that Propaganda misdirection does not really work well on Americans.
The reality was that the FBI was wiretapping the Trump campaign on the basis of a bullshit claim in the pissgate portfolio financed by the Clinton campaign.
It's less of a stretch to imagine that Stephanopolous squashed a sensational story at ABC News that might have implicated Clinton in an underage prostitution scandal.
Hillary Clinton is fighting like mad to become President of the United States, and, meanwhile, Slick Willy is flying around in a private plane with Epstein and his sex slave?
Holy shit, Hillary. Nobody was buying the wholesome family horseshit anyway. Stop drinking all day and watching old episodes of the West Wing, and get a divorce already!
She can't. She needs Willy for Election 2024.
"The reality was that the FBI was wiretapping the Trump campaign on the basis of a bullshit claim in the pissgate portfolio financed by the Clinton campaign."
Not true. What is the counter espionage unit of the FBI supposed to do when a presidential campaign staffer has advance knowledge of foreign attack on another candidate? A campaign that also employed two guys that the FBI counter intel unit was already keeping tabs on (Carter Page and Flynn)? Do nothing?
Awful lot of Russian assets hanging around Trump. Oh well, better not investigate or we will piss off the fox news crowd.
https://apnews.com/f9b05595332242e9809f739d9a185177
Absolutely unsubstantiated garbage. Actual facts:
Clinton paid Steele who in turn paid Russian assets to fabricate the garbage dossier thru Perkins Boie and Fusion GPS
The former Ukrainian government colluded with the DNC to interfere in the 2016 election (see politico 2017)
Western intelligence operatives attempted to honeypot both Carter Page and Papadopolus.
The FBI materially altered the Flynn 302 and DOJ failed (and is still failing) to provide exculpatory information to the defense.
The FBI lied about the basis for the FISA warrants including using self-referential reporting which was nothing more than the same reference to Steele.
Literally everything you accuse the right of doing is documented to have been committed by the left. Jist treat every dem accusation as a confession and you're 90% of the way to the truth.
Got a source?
AP news, PBS, BBC, reuters ...basically every non-partisan source I can find agrees with my take. I'm genuinely interested in a source that backs up your assertions.
You can find a plethora of sources at this link:
"The second operation of opposition research was funded by the DNC and the Clinton campaign, working through their attorney of record, Marc Elias of Perkins Coie.[41] In an October 2017 letter, Perkins Coie general counsel Matthew Gehringer described how, in March 2016, Fusion GPS approached Perkins Coie and, knowing that the Clinton campaign and the DNC were its clients, inquired whether its clients wished to pay Fusion GPS "to continue research regarding then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, research that Fusion GPS had conducted for one or more other clients during the Republican primary contest."[42] In April 2016, Elias hired Fusion GPS to perform opposition research on Trump.[41][42]"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump%E2%80%93Russia_dossier#What_the_DNC,_Clinton_campaign,_and_Steele_knew
No matter how you want to spin it, the fact is that the DNC and The Clinton Campaign paid for the dossier, the dossier was full of lies, and the FBI obtained a warrant to wiretap the Trump campaign on the basis of information in the dossier that they knew to be false at the time they submitted it.
specifically looking for this one:
The former Ukrainian government colluded with the DNC to interfere in the 2016 election (see politico 2017)

You said what I wrote was false, and then asked for links. I gave you a world of links, and now you're changing the subject because your lack of knowledge has been exposed.
My wife and I (Virginia residents) have been talking about selling our two story house, as we are both not spring chickens anymore, and building or buying a one story house near the water. We are now not so sure we want to retire here.
Also, a big push will be to raise the minimum wage to $15, which means it's very likely both of our sons will lose their jobs.
Doing that has been a disaster in New York and San Francisco. It has destroyed businesses and cost people jobs and made everything worse. But, the Progs still want it everywhere. They are immune to facts or results. If that doesn't make them a cult, then nothing is a cult.
Because the goal is not a "living wage"
The goal is to gut the middle class, and eventually pretty much eliminate it altogether
Virginia might survive the Blue onslaught after Trump gets reelected and makes life unbearable for most bureaucrats in D.C. If enough of them quit or are fired, they will likely have to relocate where non-government jobs are.
Democrat control is still very regional. NOVA, West Coast, New England, Big cities.
I.e., where most people live.
Progressives aren't people
Haha. "Most people" live outside those areas.
Add in some non-Lefties also live in those areas and you get Trump beating Hillary. When Hillary has all those "most people".
Actually, Virginia will likely swing back to purple/red once Trump is gone-it almost always votes for the party that doesn’t hold the presidency.
If you do move elsewhere, just remember the policies that caused you to leave in the first place, and let your new neighbors know that you'll be voting for people who support the exact opposite positions.
The most hilarious thing is that Democrats might control Virginia for a while because of all the federal bureaucrats. Then states like Colorado, Washington, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan are/will be in play. There are so many of these Democrat voters to go around.
Plus, after a nice federal shutdown again we should lose thousands of the bureaucrats again. Add in some serious Trump rollbacks during his second term and Virginia wont be so Democrat anymore.
Wishful thinking (1) that Trump will be re-elected (2) that he can or will get rid of the bureaucrats. They are like cockroaches and lots of them are retiring anyway and leaving the DC area.
Even Democrats know Trump cannot be stopped from reelection.
They reek of desperation.
Welcome to Orlando.

Young Hollywood's Student Loan Crisis: "There Are People Just Struggling to Survive"
Poor young adults. All that partying in college and spending $75,000 on a worthless college degree is coming back to haunt you?
"I owe $104,530 in student loans,” says Brian Kemm, an aspiring screenwriter who also works as a production assistant on a variety of film sets and as a bartender. “And it will be higher by the end of this call.”
What the fuck?
he attended a master’s screenwriting program at U.K.’s Sheffield Hallam University
Oh. So you went to some boutique overseas screenwriting program for your MA, when you could have gotten something equivalent from Shit State University, be in the same position professionally, but have a lot less debt to worry about.
I'm so sick of this fucking first-world whining from people who made short-sighted financial decisions and expect someone to bail them out. While it's fair to point out that the Boomers had much lower tuition bills to contend with even on an inflation-adjusted basis, I don't want to hear this kind of bellyaching from status-seeking paypiggies who had more affordable options but want people to subsidize their "memorable life experiences."
Hey. No-name U doesn't have the networking opportunities, or the luxury dorms with the on campus amusement park.
He did make his own bed and now he's whining about having to lay in it.
I took out $45K in loans to get my bachelor's. That was for an in-state school that was fairly cheap while I was working 4 days a week at a local pet shop. I turned down an admission at a more expensive in-state school. I did that for all 4 years while paying rent, car payment, food, etc. because I didn't have parents to mooch off of for my situation.
It sucked, but I did it. Because I knew I'd have an enormous monthly bill when I got out of college - I decided to not pursue a psycology degree (my passion) in favor of an economics degree (related to psychology but more marketable). Turns out there are more psych majors each year than there are psych jobs. Plus, I probably wouldn't get a psych job with a bachelors - you need a PhD to get into that.. which means more debt (plus all those hot psych college chicks would be hard to compete for jobs with).
Now I make close to $125,000 a year and paying off my loans is easy. All because I made the difficult choice of dropping what I loved for something that I liked because it make more sense economically. I think I am happier now than I would have been making $50k with a psych degree.
That being said, this is unsustainable. $45k for in-state tuition at a cheaper school to get your bachelors is insane (all while having a nearly fully-time job during my college years to pay living expenses and lower the cost of tution). Beyond technical writing and analytical skills, I don't use most of what I learned.

The whole university system overall needs significant reform, but the progressive interests are far too entrenched to do anything but demand more until the whole edifice comes crashing down.
If college is going to be a glorified job-training program rather than a learning institution, then it's stupid to require anything more than the major/minor courses to get a degree. I can say right now that the Anthropology, Sociology, Psych, and Chemistry classes I had to take to graduate were a complete waste of time and money. Someone who isn't interested in history shouldn't be required to take it unless it's applicable for what they want to do for a career. And that goes double for the "multicultural" requirement that a lot of these programs have. I learned more about recent African history reading Modern Times than I did in my African Studies class.
College isn't even a job-training program though. I had to learn everything I do at my job, on the job. I actually had to enter a year-long training course at my entry level job designed to teach you the practical skills you need to use day-to-day to do what I do.
If you are not in STEM, college only exists to prove you have 5 skills: you can (1) show up on time, (2) manage your work load without supervision, (3) sit still for hours and (4) learn and retain info you don't give a shit about and (5) regurgitate info you don't care about in a coherent written form with some extrapolation and analysis. There are some skills around the edges that you can pick up depending on the college you visit - writing skills and some critical thinking skills.
Its a glorified certificate that says to employers: I'm trainable and I can do a job even if I don't particularly enjoy what I'm doing.
That's idealistic.
A college degree is required to prove one has been fully tamed
Indeed.
""All because I made the difficult choice of dropping what I loved for something that I liked because it make more sense economically.""

Lol, damn. I guess this just shows what I was saying about the 5 skills college teaches is at least kinda true. You don't learn things in college that you will actually use. College is one giant bubble.

http://pjmedia.com/trending/censored-youtube-silences-doctor-warning-against-transgender-mutilation/
Youtube censors doctor advising against mutilating children in the name of transgenderism as "hate speech".
Honestly, I don't think referring to reassignment surgery as mutilation is necessarily objective either, but the point that people should be free to discuss these things without their opinions being smeared as hate speech is a valid one.
It's also important to note that if the government were put in charge of regulating this stuff, we would almost certainly see more of this kind of thing in the form of hate speech regulation.
We should make sure that when our friends and family hear the word "hate speech", they understand that we're not just talking about 8chan having trouble finding someone to host their website.
Opposing affirmative action is racist hate speech.
Supporting building a wall on our southern border is xenophobic hate speech.
Questioning whether children should undergo reassignment surgery is anti-LGBT hate speech.
Even as the Justice Department is running an investigation of social media on the basis of antitrust, Elizabeth Warren is promising progressives that when she's elected POTUS, she will use her powers to rid social media of hate speech--and she's not just talking about the n-word. She's talking about stopping your friends and family from voicing their un-woke opinions--and before they vote for her, they should be clear on that point.
Oh, and my fellow libertarians should be clear on the point that pushing antitrust against social media at this point is necessarily building the mechanism by which progressives like Elizabeth Warren will regulate hate speech online in the future. This is not a slipper slope! It's a clear consequential step from one to the other.
Honestly, I don’t think referring to reassignment surgery as mutilation is necessarily objective either, but the point that people should be free to discuss these things without their opinions being smeared as hate speech is a valid one.
I don't broadly agree with applying the term mutilation, but the specific case would tick off pretty much all of the checkboxes, IMO.
The issue should be open to discussion regardless of what we call it, and even people like me, who are more reluctant to use the word "mutilation" to describe it, think so.
What would we call Islamic female genitalia 'surgeries', then?
Or, in fairness, male circumcision?
It seems it's mostly a matter of extent and intent. Trans-sexual surgeries would appear to be closer to the former rather than the later.
I'd like to remind everybody that all I said was that the term "mutilation" isn't necessarily objectively neutral.
Because a case for the word can be made from some perspective doesn't make that perspective objectively neutral.
The point was that--even people on the other side--should support open discussion of the issue. One can absolutely disagree with the perspective that this procedure is mutilation and still believe that those on the other side of the argument should be free to state their case.
Sheesh.

I’m really happy that Jordan Peterson is out of rehab and supposedly off Klonopin now so that he can get back to lecturing the rest of us who aren’t in rehab and aren’t addicted to a Benzo how to live a better life. Kudos professor!
We all know that people that have never had to deal with adversity in their lives are the best people to provide life advice. Individuals that have never had problems or challenges to overcome, individuals that lead stress-free lives without error or struggle -- those are the individuals that always provide the most sound, relatable and valuable advice for those of us with mortal troubles.
Does the term "ad hominem" mean anything to you?
Peterson is a professor who has never done anything except think for himself and espouse opinions the left doesn't like. He is not even partially conservative or political. Yet, the left harbors an obsessive hatred for him.
These people are just awful.
I’m really happy that Jordan Peterson is out of rehab and supposedly off Klonopin now so that he can get back to lecturing the rest of us who aren’t in rehab and aren’t addicted to a Benzo how to live a better life. Kudos professor!
I don't particularly care if Thomas Jefferson owned slaves.
>>greeted by many in national news and punditry as an ominous sign for Trump and Trump-style Republicans
somebody get Binion off the ceiling. also is "Trump-style Republican" like white-Mexican?
"McDonalds, they just fired their CEO because he was in a consensual relationship"
So much for a woman's right to choose - - - - - - - - - - - -
With a chicken?
(Note to their attorneys: That was strictly a joke)
>>The State's rush to execute Mr. Cromartie without DNA testing
is ludacris.
Exactly how will the DNA testing prove he was not a part of the felony that resulted in a death? Pulling the trigger, sitting in the get away car; all the same, murder one.
Attorney: "Mr. Defendant, we have video that clearly shows you participating in the robbery."
Defendant: "I'M BEING RAILROADED! WHERE'S THE DNA EVIDENCE?!"
Let's review the bidding:
Virginia, a suburb of the swamp, is taken body and soul by the fascist baby killers.
Kentucky is fully represented by a Republican legislature.
Mississippi is fully represented by a Republican legislature and a Republican Governor.
Most places two out of three is considered a win, even a big win.
You're predicting Republicans are positioned to become competitive in the culture war, after more than a half-century of being beaten by their betters?
I am skeptical. The liberal-libertarian mainstream appears to have little to fear.
You don't even know what the culture war is. You are just a drooling moron who would say or think anything if you thought it would allow you to fit in.
You are not even annoying. You are just boring. You are the most boring troll ever to inhabit this board.
Not predicting anything; just pointing out the relationship between the head line and the story.
Reverend Al...When a dog pisses on a fire hydrant, it is not committing vandalism. It is just being a dog.
Let's see--
Republicans stopped Democrats attempts to deny women, minorities and the alternately sexual civil rights.
And you think you 'won' the culture war?
Democrat and leftists attempts to codify special privileges as rights so that they can say that the GOP is against 'rights' still leaves women, minorities and the alternately sexual the civil rights that Democrats and the left try to deny them to this day--trying to get them to accept paper impossibilities in lieu of basic human dignity.
Might as well walk around with a big L on your forehead.
Loser.
In Kentucky, the striking Trump-related fact was not the Democrat's victory in the governor's race. It was the sharp decline in vote share for the incumbent, compared to last time around. Declines less than half that size for Republican incumbents across the nation would prove disastrous for Republicans in 2020.
Except that Republicans' vote shares didn't decline in the other state wide races. They increased. And Republicans picked up super majorities in both houses of the legislature.
If Brevin's decline were indicative of all Republicans running in the state, you would have a point. The problem is that his vote share isn't indicative of the other Republicans. So, that tells you that the problem was Brevin was a lousy governor and his vote share such as it is is about him and nothing else.

I don't think you understand.
In Kentucky, in every other race a Republican was in, they won by wide margins.
So much that if the results stand, Beshear will be the only Democrat to have a statewide office in Kentucky. Further, the legislature has a Republican super majority.
Kentucky went red in 2018. It went dark red in 2019.
Can we play I found votes in the trunk or is that just a D thing?
Run-off elections are great. Its harder for Democrats to come up with trunk ballots twice in an election cycle.
Kshama Sawant trailing @46% in Seattle. Lisa Herbold only up by 500 votes. They haven't counted my mail-in, so make that 499.
That Socialist already got the boot from politics?
Hahaha.
The Seattle vote deserves a bit more attention than a Kentucky governor race. It is (so far) a marginally successful attempt by centrist democrats to push back against utterly insane progressive democrats.
They cleaned up one of the most prolific and long-standing homeless camps on the I5/I90 interchange that had been there for years. That's not a coincidence.
That homeless camp was so established, people had actually built two-story shacks, some with decks and even were creating fenced property areas around their claims.
*cleaned it up right before the election*
Melissa is another person in Jose Rizal Park who can’t seem to get a leg up. She’s living in her van in the parking lot with her four children.
"When does she have time to go look for a job?" said her friend Robert. "When does she have time to get what she needs?"
Melissa said she parks overnight in Seattle to use resources in the city to clean up the kids every morning before driving them to Kent to attend school. Her oldest is 11, her youngest, just 2.
4 kids. Damn. That's really sad. Sad for the kids.
You know what would help this lady's position? Definitely having another kid.
I have a friend that is in constant poverty running on this supposed treadmill. She's had 4 kids and just recently experienced a miscarriage with the 5th. No husband.
She asked me for money the other day.
And Epstein didn't kill himself.
Let us all get on our knees and thank the God we don't believe in that republicans didn't win again.
Only the democrats are capable to usher in our beloved Peoples Revolutionary Movement in America so we can finally, finally enjoy the fruits of socialist tyranny, oppression, mass murder, terror and a failed economy.
Hopefully, with a democratic sweep of the House of Representatives, the Senate and the presidency itself, America can become Cuba in no time.
We can only hope and pray.
This is not a genuine win for Beshear. It's a repetition of the spoiler effect, just as when Perot threw the 1992 election to Bill Clinton.
The LP candidate and his supporters should congratulate themselves for being idiots, and causing the election of a Democratic candidate who will certainly be worse for liberty than Bevin.
He's honestly an inspiration. My ultra-left-leaning barber recommended "12 Rules for Life" to me the other day - I was astounded and thrilled that he was open to the book in the first place (I already owned it).
He even mentioned how the book has shifted his perspective on people he disagrees with and has improved his relationship with his wife and son. He told me he now has a new appreciation for talking with people he disagrees with (he mentioned how he has been dismissive of my political positions in the past, lol).
I was really caught off guard that he stumbled upon the book himself. I had never mentioned it or Jordan Peterson to him before.
I don't agree with Peterson on everything, but he's a damn interesting guy that has a lot of really good advice when it comes to interpersonal relationships.
I can't believe how predictable it was that you'd rush to Jesse's defense, even when he's obviously in the wrong on this one.
+1000
Yeah. The troll socks are so desperate they have even brought back hihn.
I can't believe you haven't figured out you're talking to Jesse's socks.
I can’t believe it’s not butter.
Despite what an odd amount of people here seem to think, there's only a few posters that sock. Jesse, from what I can tell, isn't one of them.
I dont sock. I'm very consistent in my posts. Like pointing out how idiotic you tend to be.
Here is what is so strange. I don't see anything about Peterson that is even political much less left or right. The guy just gives common sense advice on how to live your life. He is a clinical therapist and his "12 Rules for Life" is just the lessons he learned over the years about why people are unhappy or unsuccessful in their lives.
Explain to me how some therapist and professor who writes self help books has become so obsessively and viciously hated by the Left? I can understand how people would disagree with him. But I can't understand how anyone could rationally hate the guy and want him run out of public life. Yet, that is what the left does and wants.
The bizarre hatred and obsession with Peterson shows just how nasty and broken the Left really is.
Yeah, I probably shouldn't have said that - there really only seems to be one actual troll here who goes under a wide variety of names, and if it seems to be closely connected to some of Jesse's comments, it's not Jesse's fault.
Hey, no worries man, we all make mistakes. I'm not gonna stalk you across different threads and articles for the next two weeks about it though, cause I'm not a psychopath. Enjoy the rest of your morning!
You said that because you never offer up intelligent commentary.
Good morning. Wish I were grb. He’s a better writer than me.
Question: Explain to me how some therapist and professor who writes self help books has become so obsessively and viciously hated by the Left?
Answer: I don’t see anything about Peterson that is even political much less left or right
Since everything is political now, not sucking off one party means you love the other party. Skeptical about hate speech? You’re an alt-right bigot hater who hates everyone the left loves. Skeptical about immigration? You’re a fucking racist who just hates brown people. Skeptical about Trump? You’re a worthless progtard bitch who wanted Hillary to win. Skeptical about government in general? You’re a deranged anarchist who wants the world to burn.
That just be the times we live in right now.
If you advocate not needing government to solve your problems- YOU ARE AN ENEMY OF THE LEFT.
It's because he espouses that there is a "natural order" or that hierarchies are natural. He also encourages self help and self sufficiency. Lefties hate all of that.
Yes, that is pretty much the answer.
They don't want people grateful and happy. If you are grateful, you can't be envious. They want people unhappy, envious, angry and easy to manipulate.
Not at all. But if you advocate that there are no problems government can solve, you are an enemy of yourself, and everyone around you.
Poor troll from Volokh.
you disagree with him. Thanks for proving my point that leftists are evil assholes who can't stand any disagreement.
It is funny as hell how you people forever are showing the world you are exactly what your critics say you are without even realizing it.
...I don't disagree with him. But thanks for showing how well reasoned your knee jerk emotional outbursts are.
Yeah, you are not a leftist. You just troll a Libertarian forum with leftists shit talking points because REASONS.
Shut the fuck up. You are the same leftist loser who has been posting her for years under various sock puppets.
It's probably Jeff, but who knows for sure. Everything they say sounds pretty close to Jeff, so even if they aren't the same person their opinions are mostly indistinguishable.
Again, I like Peterson. Not enough to read his books, but I will listen to a podcast with him anytime.
The main sock puppeteers in here are Tulpa, and Shrike (although I don't see much or any shrike activity as of late). They are pretty obviously trolls. Is it really beyond your imagination that more than one person is an actual libertarian with no regard for republican lies?
And I'm a bit of a hypocrite there, since I am still registered republican from when I ran and became a precinct committee officer in the Washington Republican party, back in 2012 to help Ron Paul get the nomination.
What are you so worked up about?
BYODB, disappointed in you. I think I'm a marginally better writer than Jeff, but no grb.
Would that be a good band name?
What genre would the "The Trolls from Volokh" play?
