Hillary Clinton Spreads Fake News, Suggests Brett Kavanaugh Will Ban Birth Control

Clinton runs with a Kamala Harris whopper that's already been debunked.

In recent weeks, prominent Democrats have cheered the banning of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from social platforms and have floated proposals for regulating the dissemination of foreign ads and "fake news." At the same time, they have gleefully spread conspiracy theories and falsehoods about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The latest lunacy comes courtesy of none other than Hillary Clinton, who today tweeted out talking points popularized by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.)—talking points that mainstream and nonpartisan factcheckers have labeled false.

Harris had shared a video clip in which Kavanaugh appears to refer to birth control pills as "abortion-inducing drugs." The video was edited to elide the part that makes it clear that Kavanaugh was not expressing his own views but was describing the position taken by the plaintiffs in a case he had ruled on. Harris—and now Clinton—used this as supposed evidence that Kavanaugh is a zealot who wants to ban birth control.

Kavanaugh's own words on the issue not only include no such indication but also recognize a "compelling interest" in ensuring access to birth control. Kavanaugh has also written that while society should accomodate religious objections to participating in the provision of contraception, those religious beliefs could not be used to justify restricting the actions of others.

"The Government may of course continue to require the religious organizations' insurers to provide contraceptive coverage to the religious organizations' employees, even if the religious organizations object," wrote Kavanaugh. "As Judge Flaum correctly explained, [federal religious freedom law] 'does not authorize religious organizations to dictate the independent actions of third-parties, even if the organization sincerely disagrees with them.'"

Yet no amount of plain evidence can counter the "dog whistles" that Democrats think (or pretend to think) they're hearing.

"Kavanaugh didn't use [the term "abortion-inducting drugs"] because he misunderstands the basic science of birth control," said Clinton—so far, so good. But rather than explain that Kavanaugh was using the language of the plaintiffs in the case he had specifically been asked about, Clinton claims he used the term "because it's a dog whistle to the extreme right," signalling that "legal abortion isn't the only fundamental reproductive right at grave risk if he is confirmed. Access to birth control is, too." From there, Clinton conjures an imminent world where doctors are criminalized for providing birth control pills.

We saw the same mysticism on display at the start of the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings last week, when his assistant's resting hand position and use of what appeared to be the "OK" symbol had prominent progressives seriously warning that Kavanaugh was beholden to white supremacists. (A 4chan prank from 2017 has turned the innocent hand gesture suspect.)

Just yesterday, the progressive outlet Think Progress was outraged that the push to censor "fake news" on Facebook had netted their content—even though the headline of said content referenced Kavanaugh statements that do not exist. The headline claimed that Kavanaugh "said he would kill Roe v. Wade" but "almost no one noticed." No one noticed, of course, because he didn't actually say that, or anything like it. And no amount of reading into his comments on legal precedent can justify claiming someone said something when they did not.

Depending on your perspective, all this may seem infuriating, amusing, or just like business as usual. But it's certainly bad for the reality-based dialogue, the "civility," and the transparency that Democrats claim to want, and that they slag Republicans for failing to uphold. If politics is turning into a toxic sludge of disinformation and paranoia, both major parties share the blame.

There are enough concrete things in Kavanaugh's record to be wary of—and plenty of people in federal government gearing up to erode women's equality, consumer choice, and the rights and power of minorities—without invoking Margaret Atwood novels or the Illuminati. But conspiracy theories and propaganda seem to sell, and to bring in donations, better than mere facts can, so Democrats are choosing to wallow in this disgusting swamp right alongside their #MAGA counterparts.

"Depending on your perspective, all this may seem infuriating, amusing, or just like business as usual. But it's certainly bad for the reality-based dialogue, the 'civility,' and the transparency that Democrats claim to want..."

I have to agree with Ms. Brown. You lack civility by claiming any accuracy for lies. As for the Democrats, they've a long history of making up stuff about conservatives, usually at the last minute. In this case, the stuff they're making up is easily shown to be lies, and should be denounced. Anything less, is entirely uncivil, like a young kid who doesn't want to accept the truth, and worse, who makes up lies about others. I suspect you'll be getting the karma of people doing exactly that to you since you seem to encourage it.

Hillary Clinton pushing an issue that has already be debunked thoroughly and widely, including by that notorious right-wing stalwart the WaPo, is such a Hillary move.

She's like the Cleveland Browns having a chance to beat the Steelers but failing to make the winning kick and ending up with a tie.

What grade would you give Trump's Hurricane Maria response? A+ or A+ with gold star stickers?

Working for the Democrat Defense Force must be a tough gig.

        1. eat the gristle   7 years ago

Tony seems used to sucking on assholes, so it is really no hardship for him.

        2. MoreFreedom   7 years ago

I agree. Frankly, regarding Trump, he was far too lenient and generous to the socialists in San Juan. First of all, Puerto Ricans pay NO federal incomes taxes, and for that they deserve no FEMA funds. Second, the socialists in charge in PR have been looting taxpayer funds mostly as a means of rewarding politically connected people with jobs they don't do (one of every 4 employees in PR is paid by the government, but as a former resident, I find it hard to see that they do anything to protect people there). Third, they let the infrastructure degrade to barely hanging together. Fourth, the government there is highly corrupt. Fifth, the government there even failed to distribute supplies from the federal government!

From my perspective, Trump just facilitated the criminals in charge further, and got slammed for not doing enough when he shouldn't have done anything. PR is responsible for their own situation and disasters. They should get what they've voted for (or more accurately, for the liars they voted for and who fooled many voters).

      2. creech   7 years ago

Grade? That's hard to say. Trump had control of FEMA for about 7 1/2 months, after Obama had control for 8 years and failed miserably to stage enough "just in case" materials in Puerto Rico. I don't know why Obama apparently hated the people of Puerto Rico.

D- since he didn't give that shithole island its independence before the hurricane.

        1. MoreFreedom   7 years ago

I agree with your grade Red Rocks, and for exactly that reason. PR has been a drain on civility, a boon to corruption, and a disaster they've brought upon themselves. They've been taking US money for years, and using it to facilitate more corruption. They borrowed money, with the intention to never pay it back.

      5. HANSENWT   7 years ago

Don't even pretend to know enough about it....you can get zillions of documents and then after you read all that you need to compare to similar tragedies and US response...but were there any?....One key element, Federal Response is not the same as Local Response....anyone who blames the exact results without looking at the Local Preparation or Response....is only a partisan hack.

      6. UnrepentantCurmudgeon   7 years ago

And this question raises a relevant issue why, exactly? You might get somewhere convincing at least some of us that you from time to rare time have something worthwhile to say if you could at least stay on topic. But that's OK. I don't expect the sun to rise in the west anytime soon either.

      7. Hank Phillips   7 years ago

Um, Tony, Puerto Rican politicians are incompetent antiabortionists whose stewardship left us with blackouts. The nuclear reactors just south of Houston were hit by the same hurricane with no dents or scratches. But the GOP did nothing to try to ban power plants--at least not in its platform.

Brett Kavanaugh literally said that ALL women should be forced to wear chastity belts until an educated white man buys her from her father. I don't know about you but I find that troubling.

For sure. I prefer the women I purchase to be experienced.

    1. Zeb   7 years ago

No, that's the dumbest part of all this. There is no significant movement to ban birth control federally or in any state.

Also, to continue my pedantic streak today: condoms are birth control.

You just can't see it because you don't have the special sunglasses. Here, put these on.

    2. Ben of Houston   7 years ago

To my knowledge, the only people who have ever said that was the Catholic Church. However, in the past twenty years, the only thing I've heard is that they don't want to have to pay for birth control prescriptions outside of medical necessity.

Even with other fundamentalists, they just don't want teenagers to know about it because they think it will encourage them to have sex.

The Democrats are literally shadowboxing on this matter.

    3. Hank Phillips   7 years ago

The Comstock laws signed by U.S. Grant when unreconstructed Dem states had no electoral votes allowed mystical zealots to ban from the mail condoms, diaphragms, French postcards, toys, lavages, abortifiacients, birth control instructions (including rhythm method), disloyal text (!) and all with up to 10 years on a chain gang and fines worth 15 pounds of today's gold. This plus local blue laws kept ALL birth control illegal until 1932 when Herb Hoover was trounced. So "Clinton conjures an imminent world where doctors are criminalized for providing birth control pills" is wrong because there WAS such a world when Republicans ruled the roost. The pill wasn't there for them to ban in 1873, but enough tried to ban it in the 1960s.

Actually, I will never stop referencing The Handmaid's Tale when describing what the Drumpf Administration wants to do to this country, because it's frighteningly accurate.

Brett Kavanaugh represents the greatest threat to abortion access since the Supreme Court established the SUPER-PRECEDENT known as Roe v. Wade. You're only helping the Christian theocrats if you dissect the statements of Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton looking for technical inaccuracies. The larger point is that Kavanaugh is dangerous. That's one thing progressives and libertarians should agree on.

I will never stop referencing The Handmaid's Tale
Has anyone ever noticed The Handmaid's Tale seems like covert anti-Islamic propaganda?

Protestant Christian theocracies like the Dutch Republic, Cromwell's England, the Plymouth Colony, ect. had absolutely nothing in common with the Republic of Gilead. It's "handmaid" concept would be blasphemous anathema to American fundamentalists and evangelicals. The only Christian sect I can see even the smallest resemblance with Gilead are the Mormons.

But Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan sure have a lot in common with it. Is this accidental?

      1. soldiermedic76   7 years ago

To them Christians are no different then Muslims, we are the Christian Taliban. I am just wondering what brand of Christianity will be put in charge of this Taliban. If it is Lutherans, well we will have assigned seating (no one will actually assign it but once you sit there, as long as it isn't someone else's spot, you will be expected to always sit there) sit around and drink gallons of coffee, everyone will be forced to attend potlucks (with 20 different casseroles but no vegetables other than pickles/kraut). And our biggest policy decision will be when the national Lutefisk and Lefsa supper will be.

        1. soldiermedic76   7 years ago

And everyone will learn to use the phrase Uff Da and ya, you betcha!

          1. soldiermedic76   7 years ago

And to expand upon this idea, it is possible their may be jihad between the ECLA and the LCMS, however, it will probably not result in a shooting war. Just a bunch of passive aggressive shouting at each other across the parking lot.

    3. UnrepentantCurmudgeon   7 years ago

Yawn. No one justice is "dangerous" unless he or she would constitute a swing vote in one direction or another. If you paid any attention you would know that Kavanaugh is not that guy. I know, I know. I assume too much.

        1. damikesc   7 years ago

So, what rights are being removed?

          Specifically.

Since literally there is zero movement to ban birth control at all.

          Abortion? Yeah.

          Birth control? Nope.

So, you're aware you can avoid a pregnancy WITHOUT killing a child, right?
And women are ACTUALLY able to afford to pay for birth control on their own.

                2. Hank Phillips   7 years ago

In the papal nations birth control consists of treating women as though they were altar boys. And their male governments go to great lengths to make sure no Libertarian Party operates to create a Roe v Wade decision that might change that--this despite Canada's recognition (yes, including Quebec) that women are always individuals.

            3. damikesc   7 years ago

Yes. It comes as cheap as free (abstinence) and the pill is about $9 a month.

If you cannot afford $9 a month, then you have way bigger problems in life than reproductive rights.

              1. Tony   7 years ago

The context is a health scheme provided by employers. You really want them deciding what you do and don't get based on what the voices in their head tell them? We don't have all that great a backup system as it is.

                1. Sevo   7 years ago

No, we don't want them to decide anything about it; that's between the two partners. Keep employers (and the government) out of it.
Wanna screw? Have a ball, but you get the results.

                2. Wizard4169   7 years ago

And this is why health care and employment desperately need to be decoupled. If you're choosing and paying for you own insurance, instead of letting your employer choose under the fiction that "they" are paying for it, you're the only one who gets a say. One of the biggest failings of the ACA was reinforcing this particular piece of FDR's toxic legacy instead of correcting it.

    2. Shirley Knott   7 years ago

What has Kavanaugh done that is comparable, directly or almost so, to editing a video to make it seem as if the words spoken represented the beliefs of the speaker rather than a being a quote of the words of others?
You do realize Hillary was not quoting someone else in her Benghazi "what difference does it make" remark?

See this is what I mean. Not-even-lies are the ultimate evil coming from Dems and especially Hillary. They can't even stretch the truth in the time-honored tradition of politics. Meanwhile Trump.

"They can't even stretch the truth in the time-honored tradition of politics."

C'mon, man. The thing described in this article - which you are avoiding discussing - isn't stretching the truth. She's flagrantly misrepresenting the truth. A time-honored tradition of Clintons, you might say.

          1. Tony   7 years ago

But this is about the Supreme Court. Hillary could fuck a porn star to Shark Week and it would still be OK, since it's the Supreme Court. Right?

Tony. Hillary Clinton would stare you in the eyes, tell you she loves you while sharpening a knife behind your naive, progressive mind.

What the heck will it take for you to realize she's rotten?

You really want to spend intellectual energy and moral currency on such an obviously horrible person?

                  Quintessential Tony right there!

                2. DesigNate   7 years ago

I love how you resort to Fox talking heads as an insult. Like most of us even watch or listen to those fuckers.

                3. Get To Da Chippah   7 years ago

I think I know her better than you since I pay attention to what she actually says and does

I'm sure you're thrilled she survived that sniper attack in Bosnia, huh?

              2. Fancylad   7 years ago

What the heck will it take for you to realize she's rotten?
When it comes to the Clintons, Tony's like a mother defending her sociopath of a child. He could watch Hillary eat a baby and excuse it away.

                1. Tony   7 years ago

Politicians are relative. And I don't think I'm crazy for thinking her superior to what's in her place.

                  1. Sevo   7 years ago

"And I don't think I'm crazy for thinking her superior to what's in her place"

                    That's because you're a fucking ignoramus.

        2. Shirley Knott   7 years ago

How is it not a lie?
Try that shit in school and get flunked out of the course, if not the school
For just one example of why this should not be tolerated.

    3. Red Rocks White Privilege   7 years ago

Installment 4,584,023 in why Democrats must be absolutely perfect while Republicans are permitted to express their lies in fecal finger paint.

Republicans rarely deserve the benefit of the doubt. Democrats never do, since they aren't human.

    4. damikesc   7 years ago

Installment 4,584,023 in why Democrats must be absolutely perfect while Republicans are permitted to express their lies in fecal finger paint.

Harris lied. It's not even like it's a close call. Her lie was broadcast far and wide. It's debunking was also pretty widely distributed.

      AND HILLARY STILL SAID IT.

He is going to be a vote to ban abortion

You're aware a case is required FIRST for him to be involved, right?

This is no time for optimism if you care about reproductive freedom.

      1. Tony   7 years ago

Politifact did rate the claim false (and since it's going after a Democrat, it's legit today). But on a technicality. This is a big meh, and Democrats have every right to employ whatever rhetoric they can to get Susan Collins to flip, since millions of people's well-being and freedom depend on it.

This is the Trump era. We put up with endless lies and moral abomination in order to get what we want on the Supreme Court, remember?

        1. Square = Circle   7 years ago

          But on a technicality.

The technicality that she both pretended that he was speaking his own words when he wasn't and that he was using "abortion-inducing drugs" to refer to all birth control when he wasn't?

Do millions of people's well-being and freedom depend on stopping Kavanaugh when the things you are saying that are threats to people's well-being and freedom are actually lies?

          1. Tony   7 years ago

I hesitate to even bother. Do you watch the news? How do you even have time in your life for this particular mischaracterization? Dems shouldn't be held to a higher standard just because they lie less. And Republicans should be graded on a curve just because they're retarded.

But he didn't quote anyone. He didn't question the terminology. Reproductive rights people get twitchy when that phrasing is used.

            1. bevis the lumberjack   7 years ago

"Dems shouldn't be held to a higher standard just because they lie less."

But you're doing the precise opposite. You're holding the Dems to a lower standard.

How about we just call a fucking lie a fucking lie, no matter the tribe of the liar?

            2. damikesc   7 years ago

Dems shouldn't be held to a higher standard just because they lie less.

              It's been two years now.

EXACTLY what law did Trump violate in the election?

Hell, Papadoulos didn't either. Nor did Page. All of their meetings were 100% legal.

It's been years. We've spent millions. What law was broken?

            3. Rockabilly   7 years ago

Tony, did you give Hillary her love child?

        2. damikesc   7 years ago

          But on a technicality.

Takes balls to call "selectively editing a tape so a person, who is reciting a party who was arguing before him's position, is accused of MAKING that argument" a "technicality".

This is a big meh, and Democrats have every right to employ whatever rhetoric they can to get Susan Collins to flip, since millions of people's well-being and freedom depend on it.

I know. It's always OK for people you support to do horrible things. There is a greater good to deal with!!

        3. Sevo   7 years ago

          "But on a technicality."

Yeah, technically, she's a fucking liar.

    5. UnrepentantCurmudgeon   7 years ago

If a case involving banning of abortion ever were to come before SCOTUS (not at all likely in our lifetimes) he would be ONE VOTE, even assuming he were even in favor of doing so. Reality check: any SCOTUS decision requires at least a plurality and only a blithering paranoic leftist could imagine such a thing in this epoch. But don't let reality get in the way of your uninformed histrionics here; it never has before.

    6. D-Pizzle   7 years ago

Tony, you truly are becoming a parody of yourself.

  12. Cynical Asshole   7 years ago

So Hillary is hearing "dog whistles" now too. Further confirmation that she is, in fact, a bitch.

  13. damikesc   7 years ago

Brit Hume said it best --- she waited until the talking point was thoroughly debunked and proven false before repeating it.

    That's Hillary for you.

    1. Cynical Asshole   7 years ago

Give her a break, she's probably going senile.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   7 years ago

To be fair, it's likely a millennial staffer in charge of her social media accounts. She's too busy fighting the good fight against staircases.

    2. Social Justice is neither   7 years ago

This is Hillary we're talking about. What difference at this point does it make??

    3. A Thinking Mind   7 years ago

This is freaking standard protocol. If you want a lie to gain a ring of truth, you just repeat it over and over and over. That shit is straight out of "Mein Kampf," even.

It's just like the "90% of all climatoligists" claim on global warming. It's not true, it's been repeatedly debunked, people have pointed out their own opinions have been misrepresented, but that fact was repeated so hard that people believed it was true. Trump is a racist. Trump is a racist. Trump is a racist.

  14. Uncle Jay   7 years ago

    Hillary lying?
    Gee, who would've thought that?

  15. Brandybuck   7 years ago

So you're saying Hillary is just as nutty as Donald and Bernie. We already knew this. Duh.

Hillaritis C-plex. There's no cure for this virus.

  17. Qsl   7 years ago

I figured the left would mortify the right by advocating for mandatory sodomy until the is a constitutional amendment guaranteeing on demand birth control.

    That'll learn 'em.

And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed?if all records told the same tale?thenthe lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.' - 1984

  22. pleadthesecond   7 years ago

hillary clinton was lying!!?? I am shocked and appalled! Hold on, were her lips moving? Oh yeah, then she was lying.

  23. David Axelrod   7 years ago

That is one of the big advantages that the Democrat Party has over the GOP. The Democrat's core constituents are as dumb as a box of rocks and they will believe anything, which allows sleazy Democrat pols like Hillary to say anything!

    1. UnrepentantCurmudgeon   7 years ago

The other advantage the Dems have is that they are always on the attack, whereas the GOP is almost always playing defense. In case anyone was not paying attention, the fact that Trump went on the attack (rightly or wrongly) is a big reason he got the support he did. One of the only GOP candidates in memory who brought a gun to a knife fight; one would think Obama would be one of his biggest admirers if for that alone.

      1. ShotgunJimbo   7 years ago

This line of thought is a common throw away line both parties have; that the other side is always on the attack, relentless, and willing to risk anything if only to win.

The dems play dirty and are zealots to the all powerful govt and expanding its power. They are certainly on the attack at all times against Trump. But if you think for a second the GOP hasn't been on the attack non-stop (amplified x 100 once trump came on the scene) you aren't paying attention.

The GOP machine and conservative radio waged essentially what amounts to a pre-campaign against the hag for YEARS (overlapping with 8 years of lock-step opposition to the "messiah") knowing she was the inevitable next foe. Admittedly, many of their complaints about her are true and she does suck, hard.

I mean c'mon they waged an investigation significant longer into Benghazi and the E-mulz than they are willing to tolerate for Muller time (it is still only a fraction of the time they spent investigating her cunty-ness and they are already saying it is a travesty). They are on the attack man, and they always will be.

        1. soldiermedic76   7 years ago

Benghazi was a massive fuck up that got Americans killed and members of the White House staff did attempt to cover it up (including arresting a filmmaker). Mueller's investigation is basically based upon Democrats excuses for losing an election they were sure they were going to win.

  24. Jima   7 years ago

People who seek out Hillary's views for guidance are too thoroughly deranged to pay any attention to. Who gives a woolly rat's ass what Hillary thinks? I couldn't give two fucks what Hillary is blathering about today or any other day. Why hasn't she been relegated to the dustbin of history yet? Does it really matter to anyone what that evil shrew thinks?

    Hillary Clinton Spreads Fake News

Yeah, like she has been doing for the last half century. At this point, who cares?

  26. last liberal   7 years ago

to be honest i had to read the story three times before i could figure out what was being debunked concerning who was misrepresenting what misinformation that was being presented.
i hope another website doesn't write an article criticizing this article.

No one wants your love child lady.

Bill Clinton will never be 1st Male 1st Lady.

  29. Kevin Tyssen   7 years ago

It always amuses me that when someone supposedly blows a "dog whistle" for the extreme right, racists, religious zealots, sexists, white supremecists, or whomever else it always seem like the progressive left are only ones who "hear" the whistle. Makes you wonder who the "dogs" really are

  30. TxJack 112   7 years ago

The one undeniable truth about Hillary Clinton is whenever given the opportunity, she will lie. Obama is incapable of not making every conversation he is in about himself and HRC is incapable of not lying about stupid meaningless issues. Only Hillary would be so stupid as to repeat the same lie the day after it was proven to be false. I honestly believe her head injury was far more severe than ever reported because that is the only logical explanation for her lying about such utterly meaningless issues again and again. Like Obama, her egomania prevents her from being silent.
